A Couple Words About The Verzuz Battle With E-40 & Too Short

I watched the Verzuz battle with E-40 (Earl) And Too Short (Short Dawg). It as very interesting to see and hear the nuances with The Bay as opposed to the rest of the West Coast. I found it ever-enlightening, to be honest. But there was some stuff that I didn’t fully gather.

First if all, respect to the two legends. Those guys are so powerful and they really speak VOLUMES to the power of The Bay, even if they don’t always get the credit. They deserved this! So that leads me to my rumor…

The word on the street is that this “production” cost Verzuz/Apple $500,000! How?! Well, before we go there, it only makes me wonder what the rappers got! There’s no way they are going to create a $500k production and not have bread to break off the rappers. 40 Water and Too deserve some of those ends! PERIOD! I also like how E-40 promoted his liquor and so did Too Short. That was boss. Anyway, nobody I know can explain what justifies these costs. What was mentioned was 1) dealing with unions 2) staffing on site 3) the set and things. And, perhaps…the fee for the artists is included in there.

Then there was some of the crazy stuff that happened! People got on Nick Cannon. He was on IG giving up tape on what words meant and people said he was snitching. Peep this:

Nick Cannon Snitch

Well, the digital streets didn’t miss it and chimed in!

https://twitter.com/Kan_Dis/status/1340544135770431489

Some people expounded, because Nick was just deciphering ALL the slang…not just the drug stuff.

Anyway, Nick still out there doing God’s work.

Anyway, there was a more brazy moment when Too Short blurted out “Yall was selling cocaine!” and 40 cleaned that up. I don’t know what Short Dog was on, but people gave him a pass! I think he was drinking something called Sluroc or something! I can’t remember!

Too Short And E-40 Reveal Name Of Supergroup Featuring Ice Cube And Snoop Dogg

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’ Verzuz concluded 2020 with a monumental battle between Bay Area titans, Too Short and E-40.

The pair went head-to-head in a Verzuz battle which drew over X millions of fans, who watched the rap legends run down some of their biggest hits in a friendly competition.

Timbaland and Swizz spared no expense for Too Short and E-40’s Verzuz, which featured a $500,000 setup complete with two old school rides, which were wheeled into the soundstage in Northern California which hosted the event.

The event started a litte after 8:30 PM, and ran for almost three hours, as the rap legends went endly party tracks like Too Short’s “Freaky Tales,” “The Ghetto,” “On My Level,” “Blow The Whistle” and his classic song “The World Is Filled….” with Notorious B.I.G.

E-40 was just as formidable with his songs, which included his classic “Sprinkle Me,” “Tell Me When To Go” and “IDFWY” featuring Big Sean.

The biggest news to come out of battle came when Too Short revealed the name of the new supergroup featuring E-40, Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg, which is called Mount Westmore.

EXCLUSIVE: BOP Says Kodak Black Was High On Narcotics In Prison; Demand Dismissal Of Lawsuit

Several high-level administrators with the Federal Bureau Of Prisons are pushing back against Kodak Black’s lawsuit claiming he was tortured at the hands of prison guards at the United States Penitentiary Big Sandy in Kentucky.

In September of 2020, Kodak Black filed a lawsuit against Michael Carvajal, Director of BOP, and the maximum-security prison’s Warden, Hector Joyner.

Kodak landed at Big Sandy after he had an altercation with another inmate in October of 2019 when he was housed at a Federal prison in Miami during his pre-trial detention, which resulted in the injury of a correctional officer.

In November of 2019, the rap star was hit with a 46-month prison sentence, after he was found guilty of making a false statement in connection with the acquisition of a firearm.

In February of 2020, Kodak was sent to USP Big Sandy.

Upon his arrival, he said he was subjected to an improper gang beat down perpetrated by Big Sandy prison guards.

Kodak, real name Bill K. Kapri, maintained the beating was vengeance for the injuries he allegedly inflicted on the correctional officer during his fight at the Miami prison in October of 2019.

In a new legal filing, reps with the BOP denied abusing the rapper. They outlined one disturbance on April 29th, 2020, when the rapper became disruptive “apparently under the influence of narcotics.”

The rap star was taken to a lieutenant’s office and ordered to submit to a breathalyzer test, which he refused. A struggle ensued when Kodak allegedly tried to headbutt staffers.

The guards attempted to apply ambulatory restraints, but Kodak managed to break free and started grabbing at a staff member’s face and neck.

He also supposedly spit a red substance on a staff member’s hand.

“Due to Plaintiff’s disruptive behavior, assault on staff, and displaying signs of imminent violence, he was immediately escorted to the Special Housing Unit and placed in four-point restraints,” acting United States Attorney Michael R. Sherwin said.

Kodak’s defiant behavior continued when he refused to appear at a disciplinary hearing in May of 2020.

Kodak was charged with five counts over the April 2020 fight with the guards: refusing a drug/alcohol test, assault with serious injury (5 counts), and threatening bodily harm.

Kodak appealed the incident report from the April 2020 fight with the guards and declared he was the one who was attacked by staff members.

Multiple appeals by Kodak Black were dismissed by the BOP as untimely. His filing also “contained too many continuation pages and raised more than one issue.”

Kodak Black’s lawsuit also claimed his First Amendment rights were violated when he was denied access to a Rabbi after he converted to the Jewish faith.

But prison officials claim Kodak is a member of the Black Hebrew Israelites, who are not recognized as members of the Jewish faith according to BOP documents.

Furthermore, the BOP insisted they told Kodak that all volunteer and non-essential contractor visits were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October of 2020, Kodak was transferred out of Big Sandy and sent to USP Thomson, another high-security prison in Illinois.

As a result of the transfer, the BOP is demanding Kodak’s lawsuit be dismissed because defendants “Carvajal and Joyner are entitled to Qualified Immunity,” which shields government officials from being held liable for constitutional violations and excessive force.

Kodak Black is slated to be released in on November 3rd, 2022.

Rick James’ Life To Be Turned Into TV Series

A TV series based on the life of late funk icon Rick James is in development at Universal.

“Super Freak,” which will revolve around James’ plans to launch a comeback in the early 1990s, will be executive produced by the singer’s daughter Ty James.

“We are truly ecstatic about this new project with UCP and extremely excited to work with the writer Randy McKinnon,” Ty said in a statement. “We are confident he can give the fans exactly what they have been waiting on, plus some.

“This will be a magic carpet ride, with ups and downs, joys and pain – a story of perseverance and tenacity, with the music being the greatest navigation system. Get ready for the ride of your lives – the story of James A. Johnson, AKA Rick James!”

Filmmakers are currently on the hunt for an actor to play James in the project.

During his final interview on earth, Rick James gave the website a peek into his comeback, as well as his plans, which were cut short after his sudden death in August of 2004.

Rick was working on his memoir, “Confessions of a Superfreak” and he was flush with at least $40 million in cash thanks to MC Hammer sampling his song “Super Freak” and turning it into the smash single “Can’t Touch This.”

“It was an 80/20 deal; it‘s the largest selling Rap record of all time. We sold like 100 million records…Master P told me, ‘Ricky if I had a fingertip of your talent..’ – I said, ‘n####, you already have $700 million dollars!’…if we made $1.75 we were doing great, that’s why I charged Motown $1 million dollars an hour. I was one of the first blacks to get a million an hour. But that’s because I know that if they steal five copies, they are going to charge you for such and then be part of RIAA. So I said if they are going to f### me, then I am going to make sure that I get paid.”

Big Sean’s Mental Health Is His Number One Priority

Big Sean has learned to “take a break before (he) needs a break” in order to help manage his mental health.

The 32-year-old musician has opened up on his struggle with his mental health and the steps he has taken to help him cope.

He admitted the biggest tip he has learned so far is being able to “pace” himself and take regular breaks before he reaches a point where he’s in dire need of some time off.

“You just have to pace yourself and take a break before you need a break. It gets very real. Especially with a person like me. I live inside my head so much,” Big Sean told People.

“I go over scenarios and I go over two or three things at the same time, and that creates an overwhelming feeling and a lot of anxiety, which leads to depression, which leads to all these things. I had to learn how to pace myself. Not to say I still don’t go through those things, I definitely do. It’s just, now I know how to deal with them.”

Sean also explained he’s learned how to take care of himself in recent months by putting his own health as a “priority” in his life.

He added: “I’m putting myself as a priority and that really, really speaks volumes. When you do that, you start looking better, and you start feeling better and being better in everything you do. So, it’s important.”

And the “Wolves” hitmaker knows how to deal with his mental health now because he can identify what’s wrong with him, which makes it easier to manage.

“I know how to get through them easier and I know what it is (I’m dealing with),” said Sean. “As opposed to before, when I was confused on why I was feeling like that because nobody ever talked to me about it.”

Man Charged With Shooting And Killing 11-Year-Old As Rapper Shielded The Boy

An aspiring rapper who gave his life to try and save a child in the middle of a shootout may finally see justice.

Montana22 was killed during a shootout at an apartment complex in October of 2020.

Montana22, born Emanuel Solomon, was struck as he tried to shield an 11-year-old named Dominic Sumicek from the gunfire.

Unfortunately, Montana 22’s life-saving efforts were in vain – he was mortally wounded, and unfortunately, Dominic Sumicek was also killed.

Earlier this week, the cops nabbed a 21-year-old named Desmond Hawkins for the murders.

At the time of the double shooting, Hawkins was freed on bond for a capital murder charge he allegedly committed in 2017.

Desmond Hawkins has been charged with the 11-year-old’s murder, and the cops are currently gathering evidence to charge him with Montana22’s murder as well.

EXCLUSIVE: Kendrick Lamar Escapes “Loyalty” Lawsuit

Kendrick Lamar’s beef with a songwriter over his hit track loyalty with Rihanna has come to an end.

In August of 2020, a musician named Terrance Hayes sued Kendrick and the producers of the song, Josef Leimberg, and Terrance Martin.

Hayes’ lawsuit claimed that he had worked for years with at least one of them to produce the song starting in 2011, but in the end, a different unfinished version of the song was used to create the hit.

Hayes insisted that both songs were very similar, and even had the same name, but he received no credit at all as a writer or producer.

Earlier this week, Terrance Hayes unexpectedly dropped the lawsuit.

“To the honorable court, all parties, and their attorneys of record: please take notice that Terrance Hayes hereby dismisses this action, without prejudice,” Hayes’ lawyer Stephen M Doniger Esq., wrote to the United States District Court Central District Of California.

In 2018, Kendrick and Rihanna’s song snagged a Grammy for Rap/Sung Performance for the tune at the 60th Grammy Awards.

Loyalty, which hit number one on Billboard’s Rhythmic chart, was the second single from Kendrick’s#### album Damn, which dropped in April of 2017.

Travis Scott was hands-on and creating his new brand, as his Cactus Jack creative collective, worked with Anheuser-Busch’s innovation team to create the flavors, packaging, ingredients, branding, marketing plan, and more.

“We always try to convey a feeling in our products. I’m a big fan of tequila so I came at it from that angle, too. I’m really excited to put this out in 2021 and see other people be able to enjoy it.”

PREMIERE: Armani White Dedicates “Danny Mac” To His Brother

Armani White is here to make sure real hip-hop remains alive and seen. The West Philly rapper recently unleashed his newest single titled “Danny Mac,” a bar-for-bar effort where the rising star admits he “could never fit his accomplishments into a bio.” COVID-19 pandemic has been a struggle to stay afloat for most artists however, Armani continues to preserve and put in the work necessary to get to that next level.

Now, he returns to release the official music video to “Danny Mac,” premiered exclusively on AllHipHop. The song itself features Armani’s brother and serves as a nod to his childhood nickname and lifestyle. Not only does it emphasize the bounce back, but the glory that comes with it.

The visual shares the return of both Armani and Mac to the city that raised them. From hanging out the door of a moving Tesla to dancing on top of a graffiti statue against the city’s background, the music video is a humble brag to their journey thus far.

Armani states, “In a year, Dan went from an ex-convict trying to get his feet on the ground to wearing Dior sneakers like their gym shoes to go get lunch at Ruth’s Chris.”

Similar to his brother, Armani went from a house fire to being in billboards in Times Square, New York City. Watch above and get inspired!

Jeremih Diagnosed With Rare Side Effect From COVID-19 Battle

Jeremih had to “learn how to walk again” after being hospitalized in his battle with COVID-19.

The R&B star spent weeks fighting for his life as friends like 50 Cent, Big Sean, Diddy, and Chance the Rapper kept fans updated on his condition via social media.

He was discharged from the hospital earlier this month and made an appearance on the radio show Sway in the Morning as he updated fans on his progress.

“What I can say is: man, it definitely is real,” he said. “I didn’t take it for granted. And truth be told … I’m a living, walking testimony. I was really down bad for the last month and a half while I was in there. You know, I don’t even remember the day I went in. That’s how messed up it was.

“I had the tube down my throat for about a week and a half. I was really, like, in a dream. And I ain’t gonna lie, I woke up about two times and all I remember is just seeing a white light.”

During his hospitalization, Jeremih was also diagnosed with multisystem inflammatory syndrome – a condition he said was “a rare case of cause and effect of COVID.”

“All my organs became inflamed My heart went out, stopped beating, and started beating irregularly,” he explained. “My kidneys went out. My liver started… to go bad. Mind you, I didn’t know what was going on at the time. I was out.”

As he started to recover, Jeremih was moved out of the intensive care unit and had to try and re-learn how to live his life.

“I had to learn how to walk again, eat, all that stuff,” he said. “I look at it as kind of somewhat of a blessing now, as crazy as it might sound. I needed to sit down.”

Breakdancing Legend Crazy Legs Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations In Petition; Participation In 2024 Olympics In Question

Just one week ago, Richard “Crazy Legs” Colon was celebrating a major victory for Hip-Hop culture, when it was announced that breakdancing would be added to the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The President and co-founder of the legendary Rock Steady Crew went on a press run to celebrate the victory for breakdancing culture, which will be part of the 2024 Paris games.

But Crazy Legs’ hopes to have a seat at the table could be jeopardized, now that allegations of sexual harassment have surfaced against the pioneering B-Boy.

Earlier this week, a anonymous petition was started and sent to the International Olympic Committee, over claims Crazy Legs is a “proven sexual predator” who allegedly sent inappropriate, explicit pictures of himself to various women online.

“With the power of the internet it has come to the attention of the Bboy/Bgirl community that founder of Rock Steady Crew Richard Colón (a.k.a. Crazy Legs) has been using his power of influence to sexually harass women. Not only so, this behavior has gone on for a long time without being checked,” the petition reads.

Crazy Legs took to his Instagram account, to apologize for his “disrespect of women,” and admitted depression was at the root of his “issues,” but he vehemently denied ever abusing women. He did however admit to disrespecting his girlfriend by having inappropriate conversations with various women online.

“Anonymous accusations have been made online about me behaving abusively. These are completely untrue,” Crazy Legs said in a post.

“What is true is that I had online conversations – of which I am deeply ashamed – outside of my relationship with my long-time girlfriend,” Crazy Legs wrote. “She means the world to me so I shared this with her and I also posted that I have shown disrespect to women.”

“All of us choose what to believe and what not to believe. To my many valued friends and the community, I just ask you to hear my ashamed, entirely open, and humbled voice,” Crazy Legs added.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CI8zY0ZFMb6/

In a post yesterday, (December 18th), Crazy Legs said he was suffering from depression.

“What I’m going through is necessary and good for me. I have refused to be honest with myself for too long. I haven’t admitted or discuss with people around me the things that lead me into depression. I’ve always thought the symptoms were the problem, when it was me not wanting to admit that I was in a deep depression and had a fear of looking weak by sharing it with others who would be supportive and helpful,” Crazy Legs said. “These issues have also lead me in a direction of hurting and letting people down.”

The anonymous creators of the petition respected Crazy Legs’ bout with depression but said that did not excuse him from being held accountable for sending pictures of his genitals to women online.

“Richard has made a statement claiming he is glad he was caught, and states the cause of his behavior is due to depression,” the petition states. “Depression has no medical evidence to cause you to send pictures of your genitals to women. Evidence shows a lack of motivation to do things, even sexually related.”

Take a look at his full post from yesterday:

‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ Starring Viola Davis & Chadwick Boseman Premieres On Netflix

There were a lot of beloved celebrities who passed away in 2020. For many fans of Chadwick Boseman, the loss of the acclaimed Black Panther actor was one of the year’s most difficult news stories to grasp.

Boseman died on August 28 after a long, unpublicized battle with colon cancer. Before his death, the 43-year-old Howard University graduate filmed his final on-screen role in a movie titled Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Beginning today (December 18), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is available for streaming on Netflix. The George C. Wolfe-directed motion picture is an adaptation of two-time Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson’s 1982 play of the same.

Academy Award winner Viola Davis (Fences) stars as 1920s-era Blues singer Ma Rainey. The late Boseman appears as cornet player Levee. Two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington (Glory, Training Day) is credited as one of the producers for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman, Michael Potts, Taylour Paige, Dusan Brown, Jeremy Shamos, and Jonny Coyne are also part of the Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom cast. Ruben Santiago-Hudson adapted the screenplay. Jazz legend Branford Marsalis provided the score.
