Op-Ed: What Philly’s Fan Expo Taught Me About Morality, Fandom & America

I hit up Fan Expo in Philadelphia—formerly known as Wizard World—with some friends about a month ago. We were looking for a good time. Chill vibes. No stress; a chance to geek out at one of our favorite pastimes: comic book conventions. Except, like most things in America, it ended up being about more than just costumes, collectibles and cosplay.

Fan Expo is more than a comic book event. It’s a full-on pop culture celebration, an amazing sight to behold. We’re talking Star Wars, Marvel, DC, gaming, anime, fantasy, action figures and, of course, celebrity photo ops and autograph sessions. But once I got in the building and started doing my media rounds, it didn’t take long for something to start bothering me.

When I got to the area for autographs, I was disturbed.

Mel Gibson had the longest line in the building. Next to him was the saintly Danny Glover. Gibson, a guy I once admired, has a well-documented history of racism, misogyny, antisemitism and abuse. And he had a line of fans wrapped around the proverbial block. People paid upwards of $300 for photos and autographs. Meanwhile, incredible actors of color like Danny Glover, Giancarlo Esposito and John Boyega had lines so short you could’ve walked right up and said hello with no wait.

And that’s exactly what I did with Giancarlo Esposito. No line. No crowd. Just me, face-to-face with a legend who’s been in Do the Right ThingBreaking BadThe Mandalorian and several other classics. His legacy is long, brilliant and full of purpose. Right next to Esposito was the Deadpool dog, who had a mob of fans vying for a picture and maybe even an autograph.

A dog got more love than Giancarlo Esposito. Not from me though.

I try not to knock people’s nostalgia. Mel Gibson is a cinematic icon to many. Mad MaxBraveheartLethal Weapon. Sure, the résumé is long— but so is his rap sheet. This is a man who told the mother of his child she would be “raped by a pack of n*****s” (The Guardian, 2010). A man who’s made hateful, violent remarks against women, Black people, Jews and the LGBTQ+ community. He was even stripped of his right to bear arms at one point. And now, here he is welcomed, celebrated and adored by fans who seemingly see no conflict between his hate and their hero worship.

That disconnect is the real issue. In comic book and fantasy culture, the entire foundation is based on the battle between good and evil. Heroes fight for justice. Villains get their comeuppance. We root for the underdog, the righteous, the brave. And yet, here in the real world, people lined up to support the villain.

Giancarlo Esposito? John Boyega? And Danny Glover, for goodness sake…these men are the good guys. Not just in films, but in life. Boyega spoke out boldly during the George Floyd protests, risking his career to stand up for justice. Esposito has played morally complex characters, yes—but in person, he’s the real deal. His energy is pure. His presence is inspiring. He’s never once been on the wrong side of history, in fantasy or reality. And just google Danny Glover and his efforts to make the world a better place.

So why were their lines short?

The answer might be uglier than we want to admit. Celebrity worship in this country doesn’t require a moral compass. It just requires a memorable face and a few blockbuster roles. Redemption arcs are gold. In fact, they are given out freely—especially if you’re white, male and rich. Meanwhile, principled people of color are often undervalued, overlooked and, yes, under-booked. Look at the numbers, salaries and opportunities.

This isn’t just a Fan Expo problem. Fan Expo was great and one of the better cons. This is an America problem.

We’ve seen the same thing happen in Hip-Hop. The culture, born from struggle and built on values of resistance, creativity and truth, has often been diluted by those who enter it without respecting its roots. The core gets forgotten. The message gets lost. And too often, the villains become the headliners.

That first day, I decided not to do any official press work. I was truly shaken up and discouraged. I had to take a step back and reflect. What does it say about us when Gibson embodies everything we claim to fight against yet has the longest line? When the man who played Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian watches fans line up for a dog?

It made me question whether we actually mean what we say when we claim to support the good guys, the heroes. Does profound morality really matter to the masses or does only matter in fiction?

Eventually, I did spend money, something I don’t normally do. I bought a photo with Giancarlo Esposito. Not because I needed it, but because I believed in it. I have red carpet pictures with him already. But I wanted to put my money where my mouth was. And I’m proud of that photo, not just because of who’s in it, but because of what it represents: support.

To those who got a photo with Mel Gibson: congrats. You paid top dollar for a memory with a man who has, time and time again, proven to be the opposite of a hero.

As for me, I’ll still attend these conventions. Overall, Fan Expo was spectacular. On Sunday, the last day, I interviewed and talked to many people. Some interactions were like a family reunion of people I love and others were new, fresh relationships. I’ll still find joy in fantasy and storytelling. I’ll never let anybody steal that. But I’ll walk in a little more clear-eyed. A little more thoughtful. And a lot more intentional about who I choose to support—onscreen and off.

Because in a world where people still can’t tell the villain from the hero, I know which side I’m on.

Benzino Fawns Over Granddaughter Miyoco—Praises Coi Leray’s Motherhood

Benzino beamed with pride Tuesday (June 18) as he celebrated becoming a grandfather for the first time following the birth of Coi Leray and Trippie Redd’s daughter, Miyoco.

The former Love & Hip Hop star told TMZ he was “so so happy” for his daughter, adding, “Just watching her journey with the pregnancy… she looked so beautiful pregnant.”

Benzino, who’s had a rocky relationship with Coi in the past, made it clear he’s ready to turn the page and be present for both her and the baby.

“She’s going to be an amazing mother,” he said. “I know the world is happy for her too. This baby is going to be in the limelight based on who her parents is. It’s gonna be interesting. This baby’s going to come out into this world a very famous baby.”

While the spotlight may be inevitable, Benzino said he plans to take a backseat and let the new parents lead.

“This generation’s parenting may be a little different, but it’s still going to be amazing,” he said. “I think they’ll both be great parents. The baby being as famous as it’s going to be, they’re gonna have to deal with that.”

He also joked about keeping the couple far from the reality TV path he once walked. “I’ll do everything in my power” to make sure they don’t end up on Love & Hip Hop, he said, laughing.

Despite years of public tension between him and Coi Leray, Benzino said their issues were typical of any father-daughter relationship.

“The things we went through made me sit back and reflect on my decisions and how I can be a better dad,” he said. “I want our relationship to be beautiful, and I want to be there for her and the baby. I’m really excited for her.”

Coi gave birth to Miyoco, a name that means “beautiful child” or “blessed descendant” in Japanese, earlier this month. She made the announcement on Saturday (June 16) via Instagram.

She posted a photo of her newborn clutching her finger. Two days later, she shared a glimpse into new motherhood on Twitter, writing, “Breastfeeding ain’t no joke” alongside a gif that read “IT HURTS!!!”

R. Kelly Faces Backlash From Alleged Victim’s Family Over Trump Pardon Plea

R. Kelly’s push for a presidential pardon from Donald Trump is facing fierce rejection from the family of Joycelyn Savage, who say their daughter is still unaccounted for and under the disgraced singer’s control.

Gerald Griggs, the Savage family’s attorney, told TMZ the family is vehemently against any effort to release R. Kelly from prison, citing their ongoing belief that Joycelyn remains under his influence.

According to Griggs, R. Kelly should not be freed because Joycelyn Savage is still missing, believed to be under R. Kelly’s direct authority.

The family previously said they haven’t had direct contact with Joycelyn since a brief phone call in 2019.

Her parents, Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage have long accused Kelly of isolating their daughter and controlling her communication.

“We tried to reach out to Joycelyn when my father passed. We have to always reach out through [Kelly’s] camp,” Timothy said in a 2021 interview.

Jonjelyn referred to past phone calls with Joycelyn as “scripted,” adding “We would like to have a one-on-one discussion with you as a family.”

The Savages Reveal They Have Spoken To Jonjelyn Since 2019

Kelly, who is serving a 30-year sentence for sex trafficking and child pornography, is now seeking clemency from Trump.

His legal team claims he’s the target of a murder-for-hire plot inside prison, alleging that correctional officers offered a terminally ill Aryan Brotherhood member early release in exchange for killing him.

They also say he’s been subjected to forced medication and solitary confinement.

Prosecutors have dismissed the claims as meritless. A judge is scheduled to hear arguments on the matter Thursday (June 20).

Kelly’s legal troubles began with a series of federal indictments, including charges of child pornography and coercion of minors. He was convicted in New York and later sentenced again in Chicago. His defense team says new evidence could overturn the conviction.

The Savage family, however, says none of that changes the fact that they still don’t know where their daughter is or what condition she’s in.

10 Most Useful Tips for Festival-Goers

You’ve got your ticket, your energy is peaking, and the festival lineup is everything. But are you really ready to go all out without burning out? Whether you are a first-timer or a main-stage veteran, these tips will keep you hyped, hydrated, and hotter than the headliner.

Let’s break down the most useful tips every festival-goer should live by – from planning the ultimate outfits for festivals to not losing your mind (or your phone) while getting lost in the beat.

  1. Plan the Fits, then Plan the Rest

If you’re not styling like your soul’s on fire, you’re doing it wrong. Festivals aren’t just about music, they’re fashion playgrounds. Your vibe matters, and it starts with the right outfits for festivals.

Think: neon bodysuits, UV-reactive prints, breathable fabrics that glow under blacklight and flex with every move. BADINKA’s festival collection? Built for queens, creatures, and cosmic rebels. This isn’t a time for basics, it’s your stage.

  1. Hydrate Like It’s Your Job

Glitter’s cute. Heatstroke isn’t. Water is the real VIP. Bring a refillable bottle or hydration pack, many festivals have free water stations, and you’ll want to be hitting those regularly.

Bonus: staying hydrated helps you dance longer, glow harder, and keep that post-festival flu out of your DMs.

  1. Pack Light, But Pack Smart

You don’t need ten backup outfits. What do you need? Essentials:

  • Portable charger (because Instagram won’t post itself)
  • Sunscreen that doesn’t sweat off
  • Wipes and sanitizer (for obvious reasons)
  • Glitter. Obscene amounts of glitter.

Keep those near as we promise – you are about to need them in one moment.

  1. Go for Function Meets Freaky

Yes, your outfit should melt faces. But also, make sure it lets you move. Think mesh layers, compression cuts, and stretchable rave wear. We’re talking second-skin fits that scream futuristic fantasy but don’t turn into a sauna at sunset.

And for your feet? Platforms, yes. But make them walkable. No one wants to crawl back to the campsite.

  1. Create a Group Signal

Festivals are chaos — the fun kind, but still. Don’t rely on cell service. Have a meetup spot, maybe even a weird group call (screeching like a rave crow, anyone?). Bo ti nus points if your squad has a light-up totem or flag to wave when the crowd gets thick.

  1. Know When to Go All-In

Pace yourself. Not every drop needs your soul. Take breaks, sit in the shade, and recharge, mentally and physically. You’ll enjoy the big acts more when you’re not running on fumes and Red Bull alone.

  1. Dance Like It’s Ritual but Be Respectful

Let loose, but be aware. If you’re elbowing someone every time the bass drops, that’s not a vibe, that’s a hazard. Share the space, spread the joy, and keep the energy electric, not aggressive.

  1. Capture Moments, Not Just Content

Snap pics, sure. But don’t live through your screen. Be present. Feel the bass in your chest, not just on your Stories. Some memories are best kept offline, raw, messy, and totally yours.

  1. Late Night Layers are Life

Once the sun dips, so does the temp. Keep a sheer mesh jacket, UV hoodie, or glow-in-the-dark robe in your backpack. You’ll thank yourself when the wind hits and you still look like an intergalactic siren.

  1. Own Your Vibe

There’s no dress code at a festival, only self-expression. Whether you’re a cyber pixie, neon skeleton, or glitter-drenched alien queen, wear it loud. These spaces are built for freedom and fire. Show up like the rave royalty you are.

Remember – it is your time to express who you really are. So, don’t hesitate to do it in the ultimate best way possible.

Final Words

Festivals are about more than music,  they’re a sensory escape, a place to connect, a playground for your wildest looks and most fearless self. And the right gear sets the tone for everything else.

Start with your outfits for festivals, and let the magic follow. At BADINKA, we craft clothes that don’t just fit, they ignite. Every stitch, every shade, every bold-ass detail is made for your moment.

So pack the glitter, prep the playlist, and get ready to slay the season. This isn’t just a festival. It’s your world now.

Blueface Explodes On Chrisean Rock For Working While Living In His Home

Blueface and Chrisean Rock went head-to-head during a tense phone call from jail Tuesday (June 18) after the rapper told her to quit working and stay home, just days after she and their son moved back into his house.

The back-and-forth started earlier that day when Blueface posted a message from behind bars.

“I accepted you back in with open arms so you could get on your feet,” he said. “Ultimately so my son could get on his feet.” He added that he gave Rock money so she could “solely focus on” their son “taking his first steps before his second birthday.”

He also suggested she find her own place “if you have the funds” and said, “I thought I was doing you a solid” because “you’re homeless.”

But things escalated during a jailhouse call Rock later shared online, where Blueface made it clear he didn’t want her working at all. “Nobody wants a b#### that wants to be out working,” he told her.

“You’re not gone’ be there to help me,” he said during the call. Rock pushed back, saying she’s been supporting him while he’s locked up and had sent him money as recently as March. “I been here,” she said. “We break up, we get back together. You putting it all on me.”

When Blueface accused her of not showing up for him, Rock threw it right back.

“Oh my gosh! Now you lying,” she said, raising her arms. “You never came through for your son, and he’s nearly two. NEVER.”

With his audio cutting out due to faulty earphones, Rock took over the conversation.

“I love you. You need to get your dick out your ass,” she said. “I wear you on my face! What is not obvious? I love you.”

She continued, “This is the argument? You did all that stuff just to say, ‘Sit in the house.’ I just want peace.”

Blueface didn’t budge. “You either gonna follow instructions, or you gonna go be your own f###### person,” he said. “You can’t do both, baby. I’m sorry. Nobody wants that. Nobody wants a b#### that wants to be out working.”

Rock sat in silence, visibly stunned, before ending the call. “Alright. I’mma hang up,” she said.

50 Cent Defends Tyler Perry But Says Katt Williams Will “Have A Field Day” With Lawsuit

50 Cent is notorious for his relentless trolling—no one is off-limits, not even Tyler Perry, despite the G-Unit mogul’s past praise and public admiration for the media powerhouse.

Fif hopped on Instagram early Wednesday (June 18) to poke fun at Perry amid the filmmaker’s $260 million sexual harassment lawsuit, using a meme of comedian Katt Williams to make his point.

According to 50 Cent, Tyler Perry should be more concerned about what the comedian has to say about the lawsuit than the lawsuit itself.

“Tyler that case b####### don’t worry about that, worry about this [ninja] here!” 50 Cent wrote alongside an AI-generated image of Williams. “He gonna have a field day with this s###. LOL.”

The post came just hours after 50 Cent publicly defended Perry, sharing another AI image of the two together.

“Did that b#### just say what I think he said ?” he captioned the post. “Nah we ain’t jacking this s### gang! No Way.”

The playful jab didn’t come from a place of malice. The two moguls have long expressed mutual respect for each other. 50 Cent has praised Perry’s business savvy and even called him a mentor. After visiting Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, 50 Cent said he left “inspired.” He also credited Perry for helping him shape his own G-Unit Studios.

Tyler Perry Accused Of Harassment In $260 Million lawsuit

The legal trouble Perry faces stems from a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County by actor Derek Dixon, who claims Perry sexually harassed and assaulted him between 2019 and 2021 while working on the BET series The Oval.

Dixon alleges Perry used his influence to pressure him into a sexual relationship. He claimed Perry offered raises and production deals in exchange for compliance and referring to him as his “pet.”

Dixon also claims he was warned not to speak to other cast members and was subjected to inappropriate texts and advances, including during a trip to the Bahamas.

Perry’s legal team has denied all accusations and labeled the lawsuit an extortion attempt. As of Tuesday (June 18), no criminal charges have been filed.

Pusha T Breaks Down Travis Scott Diss: “He’s Shameless”

Pusha T took direct aim at Travis Scott in the new Clipse track “So Be It,” using the mic to air out what he says is a long-standing issue of disloyalty and two-faced behavior—specifically tied to a private listening session at Louis Vuitton headquarters.

The pointed lyrics reference Scott’s Utopia album and his breakup with Kylie Jenner:

“You cried in front of me, you died in front of me/Calabasas took your b#### and your pride in front of me/Heard Utopia had moved right up the street/And her lip gloss was poppin’, she ain’t need you to eat.”

In a preview of an upcoming New York Times “Popcast” interview, Pusha doubled down on his view of Scott, calling him “shameless” and “corny.”

“You shouldn’t have been here anyway,” he said of Scott being present at the Louis Vuitton session. “Him specifically, too.”

Still, he added, “I don’t take it as personally as I should. It’s Travis; he’s harmless.”

Pusha T Says Travis Scott Is Disloyal

In a GQ interview published Tuesday (June 17), Pusha explained the diss was triggered after Scott played a version of “Meltdown” for Pharrell and Clipse that didn’t include Drake’s verse.

That same verse, which later appeared on Utopia, took shots at Pharrell—Pusha’s longtime friend and collaborator.

“That lack of loyalty. Travis really has that,” Pusha said.

He didn’t hold back when describing Scott’s behavior, saying, “To me, that really was just like… he’s a w####. He’s a w####.”

Pusha said he’s been distant from the GOOD Music circle for a while now, and Scott’s actions only confirmed why.

“I personally have been removed from that crew and those people for a minute,” he said. “So, that’s where my issue comes in—like, dawg, don’t even come over here with that, because at the end of the day, I don’t play how y’all play.”

He also accused Scott of aligning with whoever suits him in the moment, calling out his role in the 2018 hit “Sicko Mode,” where Drake dissed Kanye West—someone who had helped launch Scott’s career.

“He’s done this a lot,” Pusha said, adding, “He has no picks. He’ll do this with anybody. He did it with ‘Sicko Mode.'”

In the Clipse track, Pusha even claims to have footage of Scott breaking down:

“You cried in front of me, you died in front of me… The net gonna call it the way that they see it/But I got the video, I can share and A.E. it/They wouldn’t believe it, but I can’t unsee it/Lucky I ain’t TMZ it.”

Clipse’s highly-anticipated fourth studio album, Let God Sort Em Out, arrives July 11.

Beyoncé Pays Tribute To Paul McCartney For Writing Song Inspired By Civil Rights Movement

Beyoncé closed out her final London performance of the Cowboy Carter Tour on Monday (June 17) with a heartfelt tribute to Paul McCartney and a nod to his daughter, designer Stella McCartney, while performing The Beatles’ civil rights-era anthem “Blackbird.”

The Grammy-winning artist delivered the track to a packed crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then took to Instagram to express her gratitude.

“Thank you, Sir Paul McCartney, for writing one of the best songs ever made. Every time I sing it, I feel so honored. And it is a full circle moment to wear your beautiful daughter’s design,” she wrote, referencing the custom Stella McCartney outfit she wore on stage.

The moment capped off Beyoncé’s sixth and final London date, where she also thanked the city for its energy and support.

“Thank you, London, for creating unforgettable memories for me and my family. Holla at ‘ya when I come on tour again!” she added.

The singer recently reimagined the 1968 Beatles classic on her album Cowboy Carter, retitling it “Blackbiird” and featuring a lineup of Black female country singers, including Brittney Spencer and Reyna Roberts.

The original song, written by McCartney, was inspired by the American Civil Rights Movement. McCartney praised Beyoncé’s version in a public statement, calling it “magnificent.”

He added, “I think Beyoncé has done a fab version and would urge anyone who has not heard it yet to check it out. You are going to love it.”

The Cowboy Carter album, released earlier this year, has sparked widespread conversation for its genre-blending approach and spotlight on Black country artists.

Kanye West Reportedly In Luxury Mental Health Clinic

Kanye West checked into a high-end mental health facility in Mallorca as legal troubles mount and backlash over antisemitic remarks continues to damage his public image and business ties.

The 47-year-old rapper, who now goes by Ye, is reportedly undergoing treatment at The Balance Rehab Clinic, a luxury wellness center on the Spanish island, according to RadarOnline.

The facility, which charges $170,000 per week, offers private therapy, yoga and gourmet meals. His wife, Bianca Censori, is reportedly staying with him.

Court filings tied to a wrongful termination lawsuit from former employee Benjamin Provo revealed Ye’s location.

Ye’s reputation has taken a hit following a string of inflammatory posts and public statements and an admission that he was hooked on nitrous oxide.

In February, he posted on X, formerly Twitter, “I’m a Nazi,” followed by an admission that he doesn’t “trust any of them.”

The posts drew widespread condemnation and were later removed.

During the 2025 Super Bowl, Ye aired a commercial promoting his online store, which featured a single item: a $20 T-shirt with a black s#######. The shirt, labeled “HH-01,” was interpreted as a reference to “Heil Hitler” and prompted Shopify to shut down the store.

In May, South Korean retailer Coupang canceled a planned concert and pulled Yeezy products following the release of a song titled “Heil Hitler,” which praised Adolf Hitler. The track was later removed from streaming platforms.

Despite his stay in Spain, Ye surfaced on Friday (June 13) in New York, where he was seen at Diddy sex trafficking trial.

He entered the Manhattan federal courthouse with Christian “King” Combs and watched the proceedings from an overflow room to avoid disrupting the courtroom. He stayed for about 40 minutes before leaving.

EXCLUSIVE: R. Kelly Prepping “Bombshell” Evidence To Vacate Conviction After Alleged Assassination Attempt

R. Kelly’s legal team will file a motion this week to overturn his federal conviction, claiming newly uncovered evidence will help him avoid his 30-year prison sentence.

R. Kelly’s legal troubles began with a string of federal charges, including child pornography and enticement of minors, which led to his conviction in New York and a separate sentence in Chicago.

He was sentenced to 30 years in June 2022. The defense claims the new evidence will dismantle the legitimacy of his conviction.

R. Kelly is currently held at Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina.

“Unfortunately for government counsel, there will be no jurisdictional refuge from that motion and the truth it will uncover. From that, try as they might, there will be no technical argument behind which government counsel can hide,” R. Kelly’s lawyer Beau B. Brindley said.

The latest motion is part of an ongoing saga that erupted last week when the embattled singer’s attorney filed a motion exposing what he called a cover-up involving the Bureau of Prisons and members of the Aryan Brotherhood.

The BOP and members of the Aryan Brotherhood are supposedly involved in a coordinated attempt by prison officials and white supremacists to kill him at a North Carolina facility.

Brindley also submitted a sworn declaration from a high-ranking Aryan Brotherhood member on June 10, which he says supports Kelly’s claims of a murder plot involving prison officials.

In a court filing obtained by AllHipHop on Monday (June 16), Brindley alleged that Kelly was overdosed on medication just two days after he publicly accused prison staff of conspiring with white supremacists to orchestrate his death.

The incident, according to the defense, was followed by a forced removal from a hospital at gunpoint and a denial of surgery for blood clots in his lungs.

The defense argues that the government has failed to directly address these accusations, instead brushing them off as standard medical issues.

Brindley accused federal prosecutors of “a pattern of constitutional violations and misconduct,” pointing to previous failed attempts to convict Kelly’s associates.

Kelly’s legal team has also filed an emergency motion for temporary furlough, citing ongoing threats to his life and health. The motion is part of a broader strategy to challenge the conviction on both factual and procedural grounds.

Brindley stated that the upcoming motion will not be vulnerable to dismissal based on jurisdiction or technicalities, adding that his team is securing local counsel to address any potential jurisdictional concerns.

The new motion to vacate is expected to be filed before the end of the week.

Mariah Carey Brushes Off Concept Of “Time”

Mariah Carey brushed off the concept of time and birthdays during a Capital FM appearance on Monday (June 16), leaving the morning show hosts puzzled as she doubled down on her unconventional views.

The 56-year-old singer joined Capital Breakfast with Sian Welby, Jordan North and Chris Stark, where the conversation quickly veered into the surreal.

When North asked whether she truly rejects the idea of time, Carey didn’t hesitate: “That is true.” Pressed by Welby to elaborate, Carey replied flatly, “I just don’t believe in it.”

Stark, still trying to make sense of her stance, asked if her issue was with time zones. Carey clarified, “No, just time.”

The hosts then asked if she had a problem with clocks. Carey responded, “Yeah. No, just let it go.”

The discussion shifted to birthdays, and Mariah Carey made it clear she doesn’t mark the occasion in the traditional sense.

“I don’t have a birthday, no,” she said. “Anniversaries, yes.”

Stark, still trying to understand how Carey navigates life without acknowledging time, asked how she schedules anything. Carey answered, “Yeah, I would have someone call you and figure it out.”

Mariah Carey’s remarks come as she continues to embrace a persona that defies age and convention, a theme she’s leaned into throughout her decades-long career.

Her comments echoed past interviews, where she had avoided publicly acknowledging her age or celebrating birthdays.

Actor Claims Tyler Perry Is “A Top,” Allegedly Groped His Butt In Shocking Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Tyler Perry is being sued for $260 million by actor Derek Dixon, who claims the media mogul sexually harassed him on set, groped him without consent and threatened his career when he resisted.

The actor, who portrayed Dale on Perry’s BET series The Oval and its spinoff Ruthless, alleges Perry used his position of power to coerce him into a sexual relationship, promising professional opportunities in return.

According to court documents, Dixon says Perry repeatedly made unwanted advances, sent sexually explicit messages and touched him inappropriately—including grabbing his buttocks and climbing into bed with him after drinking.

Dixon claims one incident occurred inside a trailer on set, where Perry allegedly groped him without warning. He also accuses Perry of asking him, “Are you a top or a bottom?” before stating, “I’m a top. When you have a big dick and when you hit the G##### right on these bottoms, they go crazy.”

In LGBTQ+ sexual dynamics, a “top” generally refers to the penetrative partner, while a “bottom” refers to the receptive one.

The lawsuit alleges that Perry retaliated against Dixon when he resisted Perry’s advances. At the end of one season of The Oval, Dixon’s character was shot multiple times, but the storyline left his fate unclear. Dixon believes this ambiguity was deliberate, a way for Perry to pressure him into compliance or risk being written off.

Dixon also claims Perry purchased the rights to a show he had written, promising to produce it, but never followed through. He says this move deepened his professional dependence on Perry and left him emotionally distressed.

The complaint includes screenshots of alleged text messages from Perry, some of which contain sexually explicit content and instructions to keep their interactions private.

Dixon says the ongoing harassment and manipulation caused him to suffer from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Perry’s attorney, Matthew Boyd, issued a strong denial of the allegations, calling the lawsuit a baseless attempt to exploit the producer’s fame and wealth.

“This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam. But Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail,” Boyd said in a statement.

Rick Ross Gets Big Respect In Mississippi On Juneteenth

Rick Ross will return to his Mississippi roots Thursday (June 19) as Clarksdale officials rename a stretch of Issaquena Avenue in his honor during a public ceremony at 12:30 p.m. outside the WingStop he owns at 300 Issaquena Avenue.

The event will recognize the Grammy-nominated rapper’s ties to the community and his influence across music and business.

“The City of Clarksdale is proud to announce the official naming of a downtown street in honor of Grammy-nominated, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and cultural icon Rick Ross,” the city said in a statement released Monday.

Rick Ross has long maintained a connection to Clarksdale through family ties and frequent visits. His impact extends beyond Hip-Hop, with ventures in food franchises and real estate.

“Rick Ross has deep roots in Clarksdale through his family heritage and frequent visits to the city. Known globally for his commanding voice and lyrical talent, Ross has made a powerful impact on both the music industry and the business world,” the city said.

The street naming is part of a broader effort to celebrate Clarksdale natives who have made significant contributions to arts, culture and commerce.

“Clarksdale leaders and community members will gather to celebrate Ross’ contributions and recognize the positive light he has brought to his ancestral hometown,” the city added. “The street naming marks a historic moment for Clarksdale, honoring a native son who continues to inspire through art, culture, and enterprise.”

Diddy Allegedly Too Much For Male Escort, While Cassie “Wished” For Babies & Freak-Off

Diddy dominated the courtroom spotlight on Tuesday (June 17) as his legal team introduced a string of explicit text messages that appeared to show Cassie Ventura enthusiastically engaging in the same “freak-off” sessions she later described as abusive in her civil lawsuit.

Day 25 of the federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial against the Hip-Hop mogul saw defense attorney Teny Geragos call attention to messages that painted a different picture of the couple’s dynamic.

In one exchange from August 2009, Ventura responded to Diddy’s question about when she wanted to “freak off” with, “I’m always ready to freak off.”

The defense also highlighted a message where Ventura wrote, “I’m so horny I can’t concentrate,” followed by instructions for Diddy to pack a bag as she headed to Duane Reade.

That message, notably, was not included in the government’s chart of evidence, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office special agent DeLeassa Penland, who returned to the stand Monday.

Geragos continued to chip away at the prosecution’s narrative by referencing a message from male escort Jules Theodore, who told Diddy, “I need rest, you guys are rabbits LOL,” suggesting the couple’s sexual appetite was relentless.

The term “rabbits” was used to describe how frequently they engaged in sex, often for hours or even days at a time.

In another message, Ventura told Diddy, “I’m horny and bored,” and in a separate exchange, she said she was having “sexy flashbacks of yesterday.”

At one point, she promised to be “the nastier freak b#### to make up for it,” referring to a future encounter. The defense also introduced a conversation where Ventura expressed a desire to have a child with Diddy.

“I can’t wait until we have a baby, happy Father’s Day,” she wrote. In response to Diddy asking what she wanted to do, she replied, “I wish we could have freaked-off before you left.”

Geragos emphasized Ventura’s apparent willingness in these messages to counter the prosecution’s portrayal of Diddy as a coercive and abusive partner.

The trial continues Wednesday (June 18) in federal court.

Will Smith Explains How Smacking Chris Rock Unleashed Geyser Of Creativity

Will Smith says the aftermath of his 2022 Oscars outburst forced him into deep self-examination and creative rebirth, revealing in a new interview that he had to dismantle his long-standing need for public approval.

Speaking with BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Remi Burgz, the actor and Hip-Hop artist opened up about the emotional and mental toll following the moment he slapped Chris Rock on stage during the Academy Awards after a joke aimed at his estranged wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

“The last few years for me have been really deep reflection,” Smith said. “After the Oscars I shut it down for a minute and really went into the internal work and just taking a big, strong, honest look at myself.”

The incident, which aired live and quickly dominated headlines, resulted in Smith being banned from the Oscars for a decade. He admitted the backlash was unlike anything he had ever experienced in his decades-long career.

“For the first time in my career, (I was) having to deal with a level of disapproval that I never had to experience,” he said. “The addiction to the approval of others that I had to dissolve, it was brutal.”

The confrontation happened during the 94th Academy Awards in March 2022, when Rock, presenting on stage, made a joke referencing Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

Will Smith walked up, struck Rock across the face, and shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out your f**king mouth!” Smith said the moment cracked open parts of himself he hadn’t explored before.

“It was just like there was a manhole cover over some unexplored areas and the manhole cover came off,” he said. “It was scary for a minute what was in there.”

Despite the chaos, Will Smith said the experience eventually led to a creative surge.

“But then all of a sudden, all these new thoughts, new energies, new creativity came through like a geyser and it started showing up as music,” Will Smith said.

Earlier this year, Smith released Based On A True Story, his first album in two decades, marking a return to his musical roots after years focused primarily on acting.

Will Smith, 56, remains banned from attending the Oscars until 2032.

Kanye West, Travis Scott & Pusha T’s Disrespect On New Clipse Song

Clipse Reunite on “So Be It” with Chilling Visuals and a Fiery Diss—But Who’s the Target?

Clipse just dropped their new song “So Be It” and it’s a problem! The track is the latest release from their upcoming album Let the Lord Sort Them Out, set to drop June 11. This summer is already heating up! Fans of the group, including me, are hyped. Clipse is easily one of the greatest duos in Hip-Hop history, but we haven’t had a proper group project in nearly two decades. Yeah—20 years!

Now it’s looking like these two might be the comeback kings we didn’t know we needed. Shout out to Malice, who stepped away from the group and the music industry for years to follow a more spiritual path. But now, he and Pusha T are back like they never left. “So Be It” comes with a slick black-and-white visual that’s equal parts ominous and stylish. I’m almost sure Pharrell laced the beat—it’s giving vintage Clipse energy with a darker, more evolved edge. These guys might be vets, but they sound as sharp as ever.

BUT…there is always a “but.”

In the final bars of the song, Push spits:

“You cried in front of me
You died in front of me
Calabasas took your b**** and your pride in front of me
Heard Utopia had moved right up the street
And her lip gloss was poppin’, she ain’t need you to eat
The net gon’ call it the way that they see it
But I got the video, I can share and A.E. it
They wouldn’t believe it but I can’t unsee it
Lucky I ain’t TMZ it
So be it, so be it”

While many initially believed that final verse of the song took direct aim at Kanye West, a GQ interview with Pusha T suggests otherwise. The real target might be Travis Scott and that is the consensus online. It’s those references to Utopia—Travis Scott’s latest album—and seemingly remarks about Kylie Jenner that take it over the top. By the way, our social media guy missed it too.

So what’s the story?

According to Pusha, the tension stems from an odd studio encounter in Paris last year. Travis popped into Pharrell’s studio, where Clipse were recording. He played them an early version of Utopia, including a track called “Meltdown.” However, Push says Scott conveniently left out the now-infamous verse from Drake that took jabs at Pharrell and his legacy.

“The true context of that is we were in Paris, literally working, and he was calling to play P his new album,” Pusha explained. “He interrupted a session… He’s like, ‘Oh, man, everybody’s here,’ he’s smiling, laughing, jumping around, doing his f#cking monkey dance… And then a week later you hear ‘Meltdown,’ which he didn’t play.”

That omission seemed overt to King Push. And, he allowed the Pharrell diss. That’s Pusha homie for life. Pusha went on to say that Travis’ behavior didn’t line up with the supposed neutrality Scott projects.

“I personally have been removed from that crew and those people for a minute,” Push continued. “So, that’s where my issue comes in—like, dawg, don’t even come over here with that… he’s a w####. He’s a w####.” OUCH.

Push has already handled Drake. Does anybody think that Travis wants that smoke?

Pusha T and Malice aren’t just back, they’re coming for heads. Let God sort em out.

Ye Or Ye Ye? Rep Comes Forward To Explain Rapper’s Name

Ye has not changed his name to “Ye Ye” despite recent business documents filed in California that caused confusion about a second legal name switch.

A spokesperson for the rapper and fashion mogul cleared up the speculation to The New York Post_,_ saying, “There is no ‘Ye Ye.”

Filings submitted by his chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani, listed the name “Ye Ye” as the manager or member for several of Ye’s companies, including Yeezy Apparel and Yeezy Record Label, LLC.

The confusion stemmed from a technical requirement in an online form that forced users to input both a first and last name.

Since he legally dropped his full name in 2021 and now goes by a single moniker, the system defaulted to duplicating the name in both fields, resulting in the appearance of “Ye Ye.”

The paperwork led to speculation that the Hip-Hop artist had once again altered his legal identity. However, the filings were purely administrative and did not reflect any legal name change.

The rapper officially changed his name from Kanye Omari West to simply “Ye” in 2021, three years after first announcing his intention to do so.

A Los Angeles judge approved the request, which he said was rooted in spiritual and philosophical reasons. In a 2018 tweet, Ye wrote, “The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

He has since reinforced the change by using “Ye” across his social media accounts and business ventures.

The name “Kanye” itself has Swahili origins, meaning “the only one” or “unique,” a name given to him by his parents to reflect individuality and purpose.

But Ye’s decision to drop it was part of a broader effort to simplify and redefine his public persona.

Kanye West Gets Some Love From Kris Jenner

Kanye West and Kris Jenner have shared more than just a fractured family bond. It has been insults and shade. But, in a twist of fate, Jenner included West in her Father’s Day tribute over the weekend weekend. This was surprising to just about everyone.

Jenner honored Travis Scott and Tristan Thompson…and Yeezus. She shared a photo collage that featured West alongside his daughter North. For a moment, she put the beef aside.

“Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads, step dads, grandfathers and father figures out there!” Jenner wrote. “You have shaped, supported, and loved us in so many ways and I’m grateful to have witnessed the love that each of you has for your children.”

The message also included a shout-out to her only son, Rob Kardashian. “To my son, Rob… you were born to be a daddy and I am so proud of the father and the man you are. I love you! I wish all the dads out there a day filled with love.”

So far, no word from West.

Jenner’s choice to mention Kanye West is wild since he has blasted her since he split from Kim Kardashian. He has also lied on her, most notably saying Drake slept with the matriarch. There’s so much more, but I won’t go on. We have some positive energy.

Diddy Judge Erupts With Wrath At Prosecution & Defense Over Leaks

The legal teams prosecuting Diddy and defending the mogul were put in the hot seat on Tuesday (June 17) after a federal judge erupted over a leaked article that appeared to reference sealed proceedings in his ongoing racketeering and sex trafficking case.

Judge Jesse M. Subramanian opened Day 25 of the trial by confronting both the prosecution and defense about an online report that included confidential details from a hearing held under seal.

Judge Subramanian, visibly angry, demanded answers and accountability, making it clear someone in the courtroom had broken the court’s strict gag order as he addressed sides.

The judge accused individuals present during Friday’s (June 14) sealed session of violating his direct orders.

He reminded the courtroom that a gag order had been placed on all parties, including the government, the defense, and anyone tied to the case, and warned that civil or criminal contempt charges could follow.

Judge Subramanian then turned his attention to Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey and lead defense attorney Marc Agnifilo, placing full responsibility on their shoulders.

The case against Diddy includes five felony charges: one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and two counts of transporting individuals for prostitution. He has denied all allegations.

Diddy: Lawyer Claims He’s Cooked By RICO & Won’t Be Going Home

Attorney Symone Redwine Says RICO Has Been “Proven” Against Diddy in Explosive Court Update

Attorney and legal analyst Symone Redwine has “kept that same energy” with Diddy. I have to give her that. From the beginning, when Cassie Ventura targeted his companies, she presumably gave the Feds the playbook. Now, Attorney Symone says federal prosecutors have effectively proven the RICO case against Diddy. And, she points to explosive new evidence entered into the record.

Broadcasting in the rain on YouTube, Redwine declared, “Y’all, RICO is done. The RICO has officially been proven.” Well, tell us more.

Redwine outlined how Diddy’s own corporate infrastructure, Combs Global and affiliated entities, was used to facilitate alleged criminal acts. She says these acts range from drug distribution to prostitution across state lines. She said the bombshell came when prosecutors presented stipulated text messages, financial records and receipts seized from Diddy and his chief of staff’s phones following federal raids earlier this year.

“When you sue not just Diddy but his corporations, it triggers commercial liability insurance and directors and officers policies,” Redwine explained. “That means it’s no longer Puffy’s choice to settle. The insurance company steps in, and they say, ‘Oh hell no, we’re paying this out.’” Oh wow.

But the real turning point, according to Redwine, was testimony from a U.S. government paralegal, who read into the record a series of messages that included:

  • Texts arranging drugs: Diddy allegedly sent a message saying “G####’s outside waiting for the 10K,” referring to a known drug dealer.
  • Approval of illicit purchases: Texts show Diddy approving a $1,200 payment for “flour” (allegedly cocaine), with his accountant Robin Greenhill copied.
  • Prostitution logistics: Stipulated receipts showed flights booked through Combs Global for alleged sex workers, including Jules Theodore, supporting federal transportation-for-prostitution charges.
  • Drug orders: One string revealed Diddy texting for “15 Molly pills,” with approval flowing through the business’s financial director.

This is very ugly.

The use of business infrastructure to facilitate and finance these alleged activities is what seals the deal according to the lawyer. Federal prosecutors argue this is exactly what constitutes a criminal enterprise under RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act).

Redwine emphasized that jurors don’t need to believe Diddy’s entire company was built for illegal activity, just that some members of the organization acted in concert to serve a “common goal.” This means they did things protect Diddy’s image or satisfying personal desires. Sound familiar?

“You can be a legitimate company for 20 years,” Redwine said, “but if in the last six months you turn to crime as a collective—that’s RICO.”

Brendan Paul—allegedly Diddy’s drug mule—could further cement the RICO charges, according to Redwine. We knew this was coming the moment he was arrested. Remember him?

“Three cuts in ya eyebrows, tryna wild out…” style did not work out this time. This is the first time the public has seen indisputable documentation, stipulated by both sides, showing the inner workings of what prosecutors claim is a criminal organization disguised as a music empire. And it may be the most damning evidence yet.

I just don’t see how he gets around this, and we have about a month to go. Stay with AllHipHop for continuous updates as this unprecedented legal drama unfolds.
