Michael Jordan And J.Cole Team Up To Raise $20 Million For New App Buzzer

Michael Jordan, Naomi Osaka, and J. Cole are investing in a new live sports platform called Buzzer, closing their successful round of funding with eight figures.

The $20M Series A financing also includes athletes and influencers like Patrick Mahomes, Wayne Gretzky, Sabrina Ionescu, Connor McDavid, LaMelo Ball, Devin Booker, Renee Montgomery and Sapphire Sports.

The medium promises to deliver access to live sports like never before.

Joe Pompliano breaks it down on Twitter:

Bo Han, founder and CEO of Buzzer, said in a statement, “With the proliferation of new distribution platforms, fans are finding it harder to know when and where live sports are happening, creating an experience that is not optimized for their expansive interests based on how they consume. We envision Buzzer becoming the discovery and curation tool that brings Gen Z fans back to live sports with simple access to ephemeral moments.”

“We’re grateful to have so many influential industry leaders as partners who have a shared vision of creating a platform and community built to close the generational gap in live sports consumption,” he continued. “We’ll continue to build Buzzer with fans’ interests in mind and with a partner-first approach that presents new opportunities for them to reach net new audiences, define new revenue streams, and offer added value to their existing subscribers.”

Founded in 2020 by Bo Han, the mobile platform already has partnerships with leading league entities like NBA League Pass, PGA TOUR and NHL.

Board member Michael Spirito from Sapphire Sport says, “We are thrilled to continue to help Buzzer bring this vision to life and to welcome so many diverse and influential investors to this round as we build on the momentum we have with the NBA, NHL and PGA deals.”

Buzzer benefits will have customized alerts for fans keeping them updated on the most exciting happenings in the sports world. Leaning on a team of experts in sports entertainment and new partnerships, they hope to curate experiences that fans will truly love.

If you don’t use a wireless charger yet, you don’t know what you’re missing out on! Once you’re rid of cable clutter, you won’t have to worry about searching for USB chargers for all of your devices. Instead, you can just drop your devices on a charging pad.

Even better, the multi-functional capability of the Teamwork 2-in-1 Wireless Charger includes a Pop-Up Dock that allows you to charge your Apple Watch and a wireless charging pad to power up your phone, AirPod, or other Qi-enabled devices at the same time. With just this one power source for concurrent charging, you no longer need to carry separate chargers for these two devices.

Placing a Teamwork 2-in-1 Wireless Phone & Apple Watch Charger in areas where you spend a lot of time — like your living room, bedroom, and office — enables you to conveniently, and more frequently, top off the charge on your devices by removing the hassle of plugging in. The unit is able to charge your phone from 0 to 100% in two hours or less.

Want to use it while traveling? Its compact design makes it portable enough to carry, and it folds for easy storage when not in use. Want to be a graciously innovative host? Foreign Glizzy is Talking Cash & Business

Bay Area rapper, Foreign Glizzy spares no expense when it comes to his music. The production quality of his body of work is consistently great, and the music videos, all produced by BTC Visuals, make him look exquisite. But it costs to be the boss, something Glizzy knows well. It’s clear that he’s putting serious bread into his music. Take, for instance, Talking Cash, one of the standouts on his album, “Foreign Exchange”. As he whips around in a drop-top Maserati, he raps, “I’m on a boss, no Rick Ross.” But he means it.

He explained, “I wouldn’t say he has had an impact on my sound, but as an overall artist, entrepreneur, businessman, and branding, he is a person I admire.” Not only does he respect how Rick Ross moves, but he’s also using the blueprint to become a mover and a shaker himself. He remarked on how Ross used his music success and built his empire around it. Glizzy explained that he’s using these same fundamental principles to build his own brands and labels.

He was born in San Francisco and raised in Vallejo, California, the birthplace of rap legends, Mac Dre and E-40. He quickly rose to success as a college athlete, playing Division 1 basketball for San Jose State University where he earned his college degree. After a stint at playing professionally, Glizzy started pouring all his energy into his music. It was like putting on a glove that was already worn in.

“I always had a love for music,” he explained, “since a kid… even while I was playing sports growing up. I have always been good at freestyling, and my friends and family always wanted to hear me rap.” So it came as no surprise to those in the Bay Area who know him that his music would be well received.

Over 70K followers on Instagram, tens of thousands of monthly listeners, and his music videos have been seen over a million times on YouTube. His music is available on all streaming platforms.

EXCLUSIVE: Casanova’s Associate Facing The Death Penalty In RICO Case

An associate Casanova who is charged alongside the rapper in a sweeping RICO indictment is in even more trouble – he is facing the death penalty!

Casanova’s friend Brandon “Stacks” Soto was one of 18 members of the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation who were charged with racketeering on December 1, 2020.

The government accuses the gang members of murder, shootings, assaults, drug dealing, and gun-running in several states, rangings from upstate New York to Miami.

Casanova is being held without bond for racketeering conspiracy, narcotics conspiracy (crack cocaine and marijuana), possession of a firearm and furtherance of narcotics conspiracy, and aiding and abetting.

The Feds have zeroed in on Soto, claiming he participated in and facilitated the murder of a minor victim, and aided and abetted the same, in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Prosecutors say Soto participated in the September 21, 2020 murder of a 15-year-old named Jalani Jones. Investigators recovered messages from Soto’s Instagram account and cellphones, which detailed his involvement in planning the murder.

Additionally, Soto allegedly drove the unidentified shooter to Poughkeepsie. His vehicle was captured on a surveillance camera dropping off the gunman before heading to Brooklyn the same night the teen was killed.

The police eventually located Soto’s car and put it in a police impound lot, but members of Gorilla Stone allegedly stole the vehicle out of the lot and set it on fire in a secluded part of Upper Manhattan.

A judge recently assigned Soto a public defender – Kenneth Montgomery. Montgomery’s appointment is significant.

Montgomery is also representing Ronald “Tinard” Washington – one of the men accused of killing Run-DMC group member Jam Master Jay in October of 2002.

Washington and his co-defendant, Karl “Lil D” Jordan, are also eligible for the death penalty, although the feds have not decided if they are going to charge either of the suspects with capital crimes.

Some are suggesting Kodak’s egregious behavior stems from a falling out with JackBoy over money.

Whatever the reason, the gluttonous and careless act did not fare well with social media.

“Kodak black just stuck his hand in a toilet & I’m just flabbergasted”

“Kodak black is one of the ugliest and dirtiest attention seeking rapper ever”

https://twitter.com/faithyybaby1/status/1410260842138963972?s=20

“Kodak black really sat on Beyoncé’s internet and posted a video of himself flushing 1,000 down the toilet. Like…why?”

“Kodak Black is so embarrassing!”

Bill Cosby Free; Issues A Statement After Sentence Overturned

Bill Cosby is a free man as of today (June 30).

Cosby won a huge victory today after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court vacated his 3-10 year prison sentence, ruling the comedian did not get a fair trial.

The 83-year-old was sentenced to the lengthy stay in prison after he was convicted in 2018 for allegedly drugging and raping Temple University staff member Andrea Constand.

Cosby served over two years in prison.

Just last month, Bill Cosby was denied parole but he remained hopeful that his sentence would be overturned, and today he was vindicated.

Bill Cosby’s lawyers had argued testimony from five women who claimed they were drugged by “America’s favorite dad” should not have been allowed.

Bill Cosby also had a prior agreement with a former prosecutor at the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office, who agreed not to bring charges if he sat down for a deposition.

However, the testimony was used against Cosby in a civil suit brought by Andrea Constand, which led to him being charged and convicted of three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The Court ruled Bill Cosby’s Fifth Amendment rights had pretty much been violated after his deposition was used against him. Bill Cosby cannot face trial over the charges again.

“I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence,” Bill Cosby said in a statement. “Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law.”

Jack Harlow Addresses Rumors He Flirted With Saweetie At 2021 BET Awards

This year’s BET Awards generated numerous celebrity-related news stories over the last several days. For example, there was a moment on the ceremony’s red carpet between Jack Harlow and Saweetie that had a lot of people talking.

The Shade Room captured footage of Jack Harlow introducing himself to Saweetie outside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Harlow walked up to the self-described Icy Princess, grabbed her hand, and said, “Hi.”

Jack Harlow and Saweetie then had a brief conversation that included the female rapper implying Harlow was trembling due to nervousness. Before walking away, he replied, “Nobody’s shaking. Nobody’s shaking.”

The interaction led some observers to assume Jack Harlow was trying to shoot his shot at Saweetie. The “Whats Poppin” hitmaker was later asked about his intentions.

“That was me saying hello, but I guess you can’t say hello these days I guess,” Jack Harlow told The Shade Room. When asked if he would ever pursue Saweetie, Harlow answered, “That’s a friend. That’s a friend vibe.”

Saweetie was recently in a long-term, high-profile relationship with Quavo of the Migos rap group. Earlier this year, the couple announced they called it quits.

“I’m single. I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character. Presents don’t band-aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women,” tweeted Saweetie in March.

Quavo fired back with his own tweet that read, “I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best 🙏🏾.”

There was speculation the breakup was triggered by Saweetie’s appearance on Revolt’s Respectfully Justin which is co-hosted by her ex-boyfriend Justin Combs and “Demon Time” originator Justin LaBoy. The show included LaBoy asking Saweetie personal questions about her sex life.

Then reports began circulating that Migos members physically attacked Justin LaBoy at an Atlanta nightclub following his Saweetie interview. Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff were asked about the alleged incident involving LaBoy during an appearance on a syndicated radio show.

“Ain’t nothing but a little bit of straightenin. We’re talking about straightenin. The song’s called ‘Straightenin,'” Quavo told The Morning Hustle, quoting Migos’ single “Straightenin” off their Culture III album. Takeoff added, “I don’t know nothing about the other situation.”

Atlanta Rap Legend Kilo Ali Sues NLE Choppa For Copyright Infringement

Before OutKast, Goodie Mob, Ludacris, T.I., Jeezy, Gucci Mane, Childish Gambino, Future, Migos, Lil Baby, and other Atlanta-bred rappers became household names, Kilo Ali was the ATL’s homegrown Hip Hop hero. The A-Town Rush album creator was one of the city’s first rap stars.

Music Business Worldwide reports Kilo Ali (born Andrell Rodgers) is suing Memphis-raised rhymer NLE Choppa (born Bryson Potts) for copyright infringement. Ali claims Choppa’s “Make Em Say” featuring Latto (formerly known as Mulatto) stole elements of his song “Love In Ya Mouth.”

Kilo Ali filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the Central District of California on June 24. NLE Choppa, NLE Choppa Entertainment, Latto, Warner Music Group, Warner Records Senior Vice President of A&R Norva Denton, and others were named as defendants.

According to court documents, Kilo Ali is accusing NLE Choppa of incorporating the “melodic vocal chorus” of “Love In Ya Mouth” into the “Make Em Say” track without attributing Ali. The complaint also pointed out that YouTube commenters on the “Make Em Say” music video recognized the “Love In Ya Mouth” sample.

Kilo Ali is seeking “all gains, profits, and advantages” acquired by the defendants as a result of “unfair trade practices and unfair competition” as well as “infringement of Plaintiff’s copyright.” The 48-year-old Georgia native is requesting the defendants cover additional damages and attorney fees as well.

The complaint also reads, “In the alternative, Statutory Damages for intentional infringement in the sum of $150,000.00 per infringement, or such damages as this Court shall deem proper and within the provisions of the copyright statutes, but not less than the sum of $750.00.”

“Love In Ya Mouth” featuring Big Boi of OutKast lives on Kilo Ali’s 1997 project Organized Bass which was released via Interscope Records. Ali’s lawsuit maintains the song was registered for copyright protection on August 26, 1998.

NLE Choppa dropped “Make Em Say” featuring Latto in August 2020. The single appears on Choppa’s 2020 studio album Top Shotta. It peaked at #10 on the Billboard 200 chart. As of press time, the “Make Em Say” music video has over 7 million views on YouTube.

2020’s After Hours is still charting in the Top 20. Four of The Weeknd’s projects have reached #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The 31-year-old Canadian has also scored six #1 hits on the Hot 100 chart, and he currently has 12 Top 10 hits.

HBO and its streaming platform HBO Max have been home to several productions featuring musicians/actors. Hip Hop artists like Method Man (The Wire), Kid Cudi (We Are Who We Are), and Meek Mill (Charm City Kings) have appeared on the network.

Additionally, Migos member Offset is producing the streetwear competition series The Hype for HBO Max. International superstar Nicki Minaj is said to be developing a six-part documentary series. Insecure creator Issa Rae joined with JT and Yung Miami of the City Girls to produce a show about a Miami-based female rap group called Rap Sh*t.

Tyler, The Creator Questions Why Outlets Didn’t Cover His BET Awards Performance

The 2021 BET Awards had several memorable moments that broke the internet. Cardi B announced she is having her second child while performing with Migos, and Lil Nas X caused controversy when he kissed one of his male dancers.

Other music acts hit the stage on Sunday night as well. For example, Hip Hop artist Tyler, The Creator performed his song “Lumberjack” off the rapper’s Call Me If You Get Lost album.

Tyler, The Creator later questioned why he did not get widespread news coverage for his theatrical set at the BET Awards. The Columbia recording artist discussed the lack of blog posts about the “Lumberjack” performance.

“I know y’all saw my performance last night,” Tyler told the 122,000 people watching his Instagram Live on June 28. “And it was really good. And it sucks. I’m like, ‘Damn, am I at a point where it will still get posted on like all the ill outlets?'”

The Grammy winner continued, “It’s not that it overly matters, but that performance was so good, and I still can’t get something that good still posted on these outlets. It’s like, ‘F### dude!’ I’m still like, ‘F###!’ Whatever.”

While Tyler, The Creator may feel as if his BET Awards performance was not getting enough attention from the media, his Call Me If You Get Lost studio LP is on pace to have a big sales week. The project is predicted to open at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 185,000 first-week units.

Call Me If You Get Lost includes guest appearances by 42 Dugg, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Wayne, Domo Genesis, Brent Faiyaz, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pharrell Williams. Gangsta Grillz mixtapes creator DJ Drama is also featured on the opening track.

In addition, Tyler, The Creator recently expressed his belief that he has been underrated as a lyricist. He is quoted saying, “I think a lot of people forget that I’m a rapper because I’m so multifaceted. I just had to remind everyone, ‘Don’t let the wig get it twisted, y’all n##### can’t f### with me.’”

Madonna Compares Kissing Britney Spears To Lil Nas X Kissing Male Dancer At BET Awards

Back in 2003, Madonna made headlines around the world when she kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Lil Nas X caused a similar shockwave when he lip-locked with a male dancer at this year’s BET Awards.

Many viewers of Lil Nas X’s viral kiss while performing “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” at the BET Awards began comparing his closing moment on Sunday to the infamous VMA kiss from 18 years ago. Even Madonna weighed in on the situation on Instagram.

Madonna posted a photo of Lil Nas X and his male dancers along with a photo of her kissing Britney Spears. The Pop music legend captioned the Instagram Story picture, “#diditfirst.”

Lil Nas X is facing backlash for his decision to end his BET set by kissing another man. Critics are complaining that displaying homosexuality on national television is inappropriate and possibly damaging to children watching.

The Source magazine co-founder Benzino was among the detractors calling out Lil Nas X and the BET network. Benzino took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the matter.

“That s### BET pulled yesterday was lame [as f###]. It was too uncomfortable, too irresponsible, too forced, and too irrelevant to the awards. Homie ain’t even hot like that for music anymore anyway. It’s a shame what all this is [coming to]. I wish I had the backing to bring the Source Awards back,” wrote Benzino.

“Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 chart in April. Lil Nas X’s single is currently the #8 song in America and has remained on the Billboard rankings for a total of 13 weeks.

LNX tweeted, “It took me a lot of time to mentally prepare for this performance. While on stage, I was trembling knowing that I was performing something like that in front of my straight peers. Even during the performance, I was having a hard time calming my nerves. Thank you guys for the love.”

The 22-year-old “Old Town Road” hitmaker also spoke out about the negative reactions to his BET Awards performance. Lil Nas X tweeted, “Since y’all still doing all this over a kiss imma just f### the n#### on stage next time.”

RZA To Give $100K To Black Restaurants Who Decide To Go Vegan

In efforts to change the way that people understand food, producer and rapper RZA has partnered with a plant-based food manufacturer to provide grants to Black-owned restaurants that focus on vegetarian cuisine.

The company is called Violife and together with the Wu-Tang Clan founder, it will present a new grant program aimed at promoting plant-based eating through charitable funding, education, and mentorship called Plant Grants.

“I’m partnering with Violife because we share a similar philosophy about eating plant-based, and we want to make plant-based eating more accessible, affordable, and sustainable to all,” said RZA. “The influence of hip-hop and the culinary history of plant-based eating in Black communities contribute to a movement of embracing meatless options. I’m proud to support Plant Grants to continue this movement and make plant-based eating more readily available at Black-owned restaurants that are at the heart of communities.”

According to a press release, this year the Plant Grant program will intentionally check for African American eateries that are cemented in the community and working to bounce back from the devastating hit they received during the heights of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CNBC shared that during the nine months between February 2020 and October 2020, Forty-one percent of Black-owned businesses have closed.

That is a little more than double the amount of white businesses that closed during that time.

A staggering statistic the news outlet shared is that “Black-owned restaurants in the New York City area have seen their revenue fall as much as 70% to 80% since the start of the pandemic.”

This program, backed by the man responsible for Hip-Hop anthems like “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” will support Black restaurants by reinvesting in them ($20,000 in funding to each recipient) and no matter how you slice or dice that … that’s cold hard cash.

There is one caveat: those selected must introduce plant-based ingredients in their recipes, add more plant-based dishes to their menus or convert their dishes to plant-based versions of themselves.

The Plant Grant will subsidize coaching on menu development from two plant-based chef pioneers, Lemel Durrah and Laricia Chandler for those selected.

The Plant Grants will be awarded to five (5) applicants who are selected based on meeting program criteria, including their commitment to plant-based eating, and engaging their community.

The applications are open now through July 31, 2021. The selected grantees will be announced in September 2021. For more info, please visit plantgrants.com.

R&B Kings Bobby Brown And Keith Sweat To Battle For Crown On Next Verzuz

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have just announced that next Verzuz contest and it will really be the battle between Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat for the title, “King of R&B.”

The date is set for Thursday, July 1.

A post shared by VERZUZ (@verzuztv)

Now before you dismiss this as some old school stuff, adding that one whines and the other just shouts, let’s break down some of the biggest hits between the both of them.

Bobby Brown comes in with a hefty catalog. He can easily lean on his New Edition stuff, to add to his epic top-charting albums.

We definitely want to hear him break out some of his ballads like “Roni,” “Girlfriend,” or “Rock Wit’cha.”

All of the candy girls out there are gonna want him to play joints that he led when he was in NE like “Mr. Telephone Man” and “Jealous Girl.” But his party jams “Every Little Step,” “My Prerogative,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “On Our Own” and “Humpin’ Around” are gonna make us break out into a sweat.

Speaking of sweat …

The Harlem native got classic too.

Keith Sweat is going to hit the crowd with red light specials like “Make It Last Forever,” “Right and Wrong Way,” “I’ll Give All My Love To You,” and “Tellin’ Me No Again.”

Then he is gonna shut it down with “I Want Her,” “Nobody and “Don’t Stop the Love.”

Keith can also tap into all the songs he wrote like “Just Got Paid” by Johnny Kemp, “I Like It” by Kut Klose, and “Freak Me” by Silk.

Let’s not forget he was also in a group, LSG with Gerald Levert and Johnny Gill.

This is gonna be tough. Who you got?
