Afroman Gets Sued By Ohio Sheriff’s Office

Cannabis advocate and rapper Afroman is being sued by Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

According to TMZ, this was the same agency that raided his Ohio home in August 2022 and whose officers appeared in footage and pictures in his video, “Will You Help Me Repair My Door.”

ACSO claims in the lawsuit the artist is illegally using their likeness to make money.

The footage was shot by his wife’s cell phone and security cameras in the home. The complaint is that the footage made it into the music video but did not have the permission of the deputies featured.

ACSO states by Afroman using the officers’ image and likenesses in his music videos, on merchandise, and flooding social media with it, he has invaded the deputies’ privacy, emotional distress, ridicule, humiliation, loss of reputation, and embarrassment.

Afroman commented on the lawsuit, “My house is my property, my video camera films, everything on my property as they begin, stealing my money, disconnecting plus destroying my video camera system, they became my property!”

“Criminals caught in the act, of vandalizing and stealing money. My video footage is my property,” he continued.  “I used it to identify the criminals who broke into my house and stole my money. I used it to identify criminals, who broke into my house, stole my money, and disconnected my home security system.”

This case is developing.

Questlove Launches New Book Imprint “AUWA” Books With Epic Memoir From Sly Stone

The Roots co-founder Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is set to launch his book imprint dubbed AUWA Books.

The new company’s name takes its inspiration from Prince’s signature screech.

AUWA Books, which will publish fiction and nonfiction, aims to connect readers with inspiring new stories and help them discover lost voices. Questlove’s interests are diverse, ranging from music to a vast array of topics, and he intends to share his passion with others through his imprint.

The imprint’s first book, “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin),” will be written by the legendary Sly Stone and is set to hit the shelves on October 17th, 2023.

Sly Stone, known for his exceptional contributions to pop music, created a new kind of music by mixing soul, funk, and rock and is responsible for many iconic anthems from the 1960s and ’70s, including “Everyday People” and “Family Affair.”

“For as long as I can remember, folks have been asking me to tell my story,” explained Sly Stone. “I wasn’t ready. I had to be in a new frame of mind to become Sylvester Stewart again to tell the true story of Sly Stone. It’s been a wild ride, and hopefully, my fans enjoy it too.”

In collaboration with Sly Stone’s manager Arlene Hirschkowitz, “Thank You” was written by Sly and Ben Greenman, who has written memoirs with other music icons such as George Clinton and Brian Wilson.

Questlove is excited to publish his books under the AUWA Books imprint, which he feels is a natural step in his writing career.

“I have been writing books for over a decade,” said Questlove, “so it seemed like a natural step to publish them too. I’m very excited about AUWA Books, from the books we have lined up to the books we haven’t discovered yet. Let’s take it to the page.”

His book “Hip-Hop Is History,” co-written with Ben Greenman, will be published in 2024 and undoubtedly become a seminal book about hip-hop’s first 50 years.

Other books expected to be published under the imprint include Drew Afualo’s inspiring first book, Josh Luber’s Building the Hype Economy, and Derrick Palmer’s urgent Handbook for the Revolution: The Essential Guide for Workplace Organizing.

Latto Does Community Service To Get Gun Charges Dropped

While she has spent a lot of time pushing her new music and rising to the top of the chart, Atlanta rapper Latto has been facing serious gun charges over the two years.

Now reports say, the bombshell has done the stand-up thing, completed service hours, and will maybe get the charges dropped.

TMZ reports Latto was nabbed by law enforcement in May 2021 for carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed weapon at the LAX airport on her way to Alabama.

Latto was boarding a private flight but still was flagged by the airport’s security and police.  Officers detained her for several hours but later released her. The “Big Energy” chart-topper was able to hop on the flight and make a concert later that night.

This is the same case she rapped about on the recently dropped Mello Buckzz’s track, “Boom Pt. 2.”

“I got locked up in the airport, g###### forgot the gun,” she rapped on the track.

Her team negotiated with the prosecutor to have her enter a year-long diversion program. She started her classes in April 2022.

Since then, she is believed to have completed the required gun safety course and knocked out 120 hours of community service. In return, the firearm charge would be dropped. A hearing in April 2023 will decide if the work she did satisfies the court.

Was Tekashi 6ix9ine Set Up In Gym Beat Down?

Tekashi69 has finally gotten got. The Brooklyn-based, loudmouthed, rambunctious, rapper has been beaten up in a Florida gym. He was reportedly in the sauna when the assault happened. Some folks cheered, some folks jeered, and others wer indifferent. The guy looks so small and frail in that video that it’s hard to feel joy, because you can tell that he was beaten up by several bigger men. And, remember, this is all the result of him “snitching” on some bad Blood guys in Brooklyn. But, they say, what goes around comes around. But is this street justice or something else?

You know the Internet is going to do what it does. And, it seems like early detectives are suggesting that the rapper, who does not rap so much anymore, was actually set up!!! The truth is, it would be very difficult for 3 or so guys to randomly come upon Tekashi69 in the gym, and then everybody decides uniformly to pummel him bloody. They stomped him out!

And here in lies the rumor. The word on the street is that he was actually set up. And that those that beat him down were actually notified, or previously knew where he would be. That is very interesting, correct? These guys were brazen! One of them even said “I want to be famous” and “you should put me in this video!” The whole thing is very, very suspicious.

If you notice, when Tekashi69 begins to leave the area of the assault, he turns around and starts to come back. To me, this suggests he knew someone in the crew of assailants. They were not there to kill him, and he knew that, in my opinion. In my opinion, his demeanor was “this is fkd up.” Remember one of them said, “I’m a fan.” I think this was some sort of discipline or a “check.” I believe in order to make it and also be safe, Tekkie had to swim with some bigger sharks than the ones he pi$$ed off and it has bitten him BIG TIME.

What next?!

Lil Pump Calls T.I. A Snitch And A Bum

“Gucci Gang” rapper Gazzy “Lil Pump” Garcia decided to take direct aim at Tip “T.I.” Harris live on social media. Lil Pump’s disrespectful tirade is now spreading across the internet.

“T.I.’s a snitch. So, I don’t ever want to see him pull up with none of them stupid-ass paperworks and s###. T.I., we know you’re a snitch. You even brought the papers to your stupid-ass comedy show that nobody f###### goes to. You’re a bum,” expressed Lil Pump.

The 22-year-old supporter of MAGA leader Donald Trump also said, “[T.I.,] you’re a f###### rat. You’re a straight rat. You’re a snitch. Nobody respects you in the rap game.”

T.I. has faced accusations of snitching throughout his entertainment career. Many people speculated that The Family Hustle reality show star cooperated with law enforcement to secure lessened sentences in several criminal cases.

Despite appearing in a police-backed Crime Stoppers commerical, T.I. repeatedly denied being an informant. Recently, the Atlanta-based rapper got into a public back-and-forth with Boosie Badazz after footage of T.I. telling a hyperbolic story about pinning a drug charge on his deceased cousin resurfaced.

As far as Lil Pump, it is not exactly clear why the Florida native chose to blast T.I. when he did. The Lil Pump 2 album dropped on March 17. 2019’s Harverd Dropout only spent seven weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. Music critics and fans panned that Lil Pump project.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Injuries Revealed By Lawyer After Gym Beatdown – It’s Pretty Bad

On Tuesday, rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, also known as Daniel Hernandez, was rushed to a South Florida hospital after being brutally assaulted by a group of men at an LA Fitness gym.

In a conversation with Newsweek, his attorney Lance Lazzaro revealed that 6ix9ine suffered extensive injuries, including a blood clot in his eye and multiple fractured ribs.

The 26-year-old musician was in the sauna when the unprovoked attack occurred, involving three to four assailants.

Upon hearing the disturbance, gym staff alerted the manager, who quickly called for emergency assistance. The attackers left the scene as staff members responded to the situation.

A video posted on Twitter shows a man beating him while saying “this is they supposed to be treating your b#### ass,” before delivering a thunderous stomp to his ribcage and declaring “take a picture I want to be famous.”

Another video shows a bloodied 6ix9ine exiting the gym and stating, “Y’all n****s jumped me.”

Additional social media footage captures the assault taking place, with one video even identifying the face of an attacker.

The incident comes shortly after the rapper was reportedly ejected from Miami’s LoanDepot Park for getting drunk and creating a disturbance during the World Baseball Classic.

Tekashi 6ix9ine was granted early release from prison in April 2020 after serving a shortened two-year sentence for racketeering, drug trafficking, and firearms offenses.

He received this reduced sentence after agreeing to testify against fellow Nine Trey Gangsters members.

While the connection between the attack and his past legal issues remains uncertain, attorney Lance Lazzaro informed TMZ that he plans to secure protection for his client.

Logic Covers Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “Weed Song”

It seems Logic may have been serious about doing a project featuring covers of Hip Hop songs from the 1990s/2000s. After remaking “It Was a Good Day” by Ice Cube, the DMV rapper tackled a tune by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

A video for Logic’s rendition of Bone Thug’s “Weed Song” hit YouTube on Tuesday. The original version of the marijuana-praising track lives on 2000’s BTNHResurrection studio album and 2004’s Greatest Hits compilation.

The visuals for Logic’s “Weed Song” opens with a  steady-cam shot of the former Def Jam recording artist walking through a mansion as he briefly interacts with other people in the house. He eventually ends up in front of a green screen before he starts rapping.

Some critics, including podcaster Joe Budden, blasted Logic for redoing Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day” from 1993. While facing social media backlash for covering Cube’s classic song, Logic responded to a fan suggesting he should do a full-length project of cover songs.

“It’s funny you should say that because I thought about doing that. Wouldn’t that be cool? Everybody’s all p##### off at me because I did a f###### Ice Cube cover,” stated Logic in a TikTok video. “Meanwhile, I texted Ice Cube and he’s like, ‘Man, keep on doing you, brother.’ Like, who gives a f###? Who gives a f###?”

The College Park album creator also said, “You’re right. I should do a whole f###### album, and just do a whole album of f###### hard-ass ’90s records and call it Logic Greatest Hits, and get all them paid and publishing, and take care of all the legends and the GOATs and the greats from the ’90s. And f###### do a covers album. Who gives a f###?”

J. Cole Talks ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’ Not Winning A Grammy Award

Many J. Cole fans consider 2014 Forest Hills Drive the Roc Nation emcee’s best studio album. That 2014 project debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and earned a Best Rap Album nomination at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

J. Cole’s critically-acclaimed 2014 Forest Hills Drive did not win Best Rap Album in 2016. To Pimp a Butterfly by Top Dawg Entertainment-backed rapper Kendrick Lamar took home the Grammy that year.

In fact, J. Cole would not win his first Grammy Award until 2020. The Dreamville Records founder received a Best Rap Song golden gramophone for his contribution to 21 Savage’s “A Lot” single.

J. Cole Received 16 Grammy Nominations During His Career

ESPN’s Lead by Example With Bob Myers conducted an interview with J. Cole which included the 38-year-old recording artist discussing the Grammy Awards. He admitted his desire to win a Grammy diminished over time.

“It was so important to me. So had I won it early on, I think it would have validated all those feelings I had for it. Maybe it would have felt like a championship at that point, I’m not sure. The fact that it didn’t happen and then it didn’t happen and then it didn’t happen, it allowed me to even reflect,” said Cole.

The 16-time Grammy nominee added, “After more time to sit with myself, it becomes clear that it’s like, ‘Wait a minute. Those things weren’t for you.’ Then, when it actually came, it was almost like, ‘I’m not in love with this thing anymore.’ Not to mention, I won a Grammy with somebody else. It was me as a feature on somebody’s song. It ain’t for nothing I did.”

2014 Forest Hills Drive Is Cole’s Championship Ring

While J. Cole now appears to be ambivalent about winning a Grammy Award, the St. John’s University graduate does have a positive view of his own work. 2014 Forest Hills Drive came up during his conversation with Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers.

“That’s nowhere close to a championship to me, the Grammy. But there was an album that felt like a championship,” stated Cole. “The making of this album I got called Forest Hills Drive, and the releasing of it and the tour. That was a championship run in a way I would look at how the [Chicago] Bulls look at The Last Dance or how [the Golden State Warriors] look at winning a championship.”

The rapper/producer continued, “That was the feeling. Guess what? That album didn’t win a Grammy. A Grammy didn’t increase my enjoyment or decrease my enjoyment. If that album had won a Grammy, it wouldn’t have changed my experience. The fact that it didn’t win didn’t change my experience. That was what a championship felt like to me.”

Joe Budden On Slaughterhouse Breakup: Give Me The Blame… I Ruined Everything

At one point, Slaughterhouse seemed destined to be one of the most dominant supergroups in Hip Hop history. However, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, and Royce da 5’9″ eventually parted ways after just two albums.

Joe Budden sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN for an upcoming episode of the Drink Champs podcast. A preview of the show made its way to social media. In the clip, Budden discusses Slaughterhouse’s breakup.

“Come on, give me the blame. I’ll take it. I ruined everything. Everything that you loved, I ruined that s###,” expressed Joe Budden. The retired rapper added, “Even now, ten years long of just stories and talk, I did it. It was me.”

It is not clear if Joe Budden was being sincere or sarcastic, but his latest statements about Slaughterhouse come after the emcee-turned-podcaster had a public falling out with Royce da 5’9″ and Joell Ortiz on Instagram Live last year.

The online argument between the former groupmates seemingly stemmed from Royce da 5’9″ and Joell Ortiz releasing the Rise & Fall of Slaughterhouse in 2022. That album did not include contributions by Joe Budden or Crooked I.

Slaughterhouse released two projects – 2009’s Slaughterhouse album and 2011’s Slaughterhouse EP – via E1 Music. 2012’s Welcome to: Our House studio LP came out on Eminem’s Shady Records. The foursome came together in 2008 before officially disbanding in 2018.

Missy Elliott Pays Tribute To “The Blueprint” Sylvia Rhone: “I Will Forever Be Grateful”

Missy Elliott is giving out flowers, praising the woman who helped launch her career, Epic Records chairperson and CEO Sylvia Rhone.

The trailblazing New Yorker is widely regarded as one of the most influential executives in music industry history. Rhone made history in 1994 when she was named chairman and CEO of Elektra Entertainment Group. At the time, the promotion made her the only African American and first-ever woman to hold the titles.

After Missy Elliott signed to Elektra, she expressed her desire to own her own label over being a recording artist. Sylvia Rhone told her, “We’ll give a label if you give us an album.” The Virginia native would create Supa Dupa Fly within weeks, and as promised, she got her label.

In 1997 Missy Elliott founded The Goldmind Inc. which went on to house acts like R&B superstar Tweet.

On Tuesday (Mar. 21), Missy shared a throwback video posted by a fan page featuring Sylvia Rhone presenting a young Missy Elliot with a plaque.

“I will forever be Grateful for you believing in me & allowing me to color outside the lines & be uniquely me🙏🏾💜 You are the blueprint🙌🏾,’ she tweeted before recalling, “Wow & this was 26 years ago.😵🙌🏾🔥”

Last month, both pioneering women received the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective Global Impact Award.

Missy Elliott moved members of the audience to tears as she paid homage to Sylvia Rhone during her acceptance speech.

“She saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself,” the four-time Grammy winner explained. “She never told us ‘no,’” continued Elliott before adding Rhone “never” told her to lose weight or to change her records.

Lil Baby Shows Off Limited Edition Electric Maybach Designed By Virgil Abloh

Lil Baby has become the proud owner of a limited-edition bespoke Maybach designed in collaboration with the late Virgil Abloh before his untimely passing in November 2021.

He took to Instagram to show off a video of the vehicle, which comes with a miniature replica. The “Project MAYBACH” car is strictly limited to just 150 units, as referenced on the branding. The clip is set to the tune of Lil Baby’s 2022 single, “From Now On” featuring Future. The track contains the lyric, “Virgil Maybach be so sweet, we just get ’em, ain’t no beef.” Check out the “Project MAYBACH” in the video below and listen to “From Now On” at the end of the page.

The luxury “one-of-a-kind electric showcar” also made an appearance in the video for Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind cut “Sticky”. While it’s unclear if Drizzy actually owns one, the “Project MAYBACH” Chief Designer Officer seems to think he should.

“@champagnepapi this one really suits you!” Gorden Wagener penned in the caption of an Instagram post last August alongside several images of Drake and the off-road car.

Mercedes-Benz released a short documentary detailing the creative process behind the “Project MAYBACH” collaboration. The famed designer featured in the film before he died.

“The premise is to use two words to drive you to a new action,” Virgil Abloh explained. “So utility and luxury are usually not used in the same sentence and the car we’re developing can function as such.”

Burna Boy Responds To Backlash Over Remarks About Africans & African Americans

Burna Boy has clarified his remarks after being slammed for his take on African Americans lacking ties to a homeland.

During an interview with entrepreneur and activist Chaka Bars, the Nigerian artist explained why it’s important for the African diaspora to return to the continent.

“Let’s use America,” Burna Boy began before saying that any country can be an example. “The Chinese American has a base; he knows he’s from China. Italian Americas know where their grandparents came from in Italy. They know the first person from their family to come to America and start that line. Same goes to everyone else except the African Americans.”

However, fans online criticized Burna Boy after a clip of the interview surfaced on Twitter, with many African Americans expressing their frustrations over his comments. Some pointed out that most Black Americans today are the descendants of USA chattel slavery and not immigrants, like the other cultures Burna Boy named.

“He skipped the whole history of African involvement in the slave trade and what that has meant for us. You can’t have a conversation with us without addressing that. So no he didn’t tell the truth he told the lord that you all have accepted as truth,” read one tweet.

Burna Boy Clarifies His Comments

On Tuesday, Burna Boy took to Instagram to address the backlash and clarify his remarks in a lengthy statement.

“It’s sad to see that in 2023 there are still such black people who would prefer we stay divided and conquered,” he began. Burna Boy also denied saying all Black Americans are African, suggesting his message became lost in translation.

“Maybe it’s my accent or something but I never said you are African and not Americans. I also did not say Africa is part of Heaven. You deserve all the Land and reparations you want from America and I’m 100% in support of that.”

The Afrobeats artist then added his intention has always been to unite Africans and Black Americans. “I believe coming together as brothers and sisters is the only way forward to US black people worldwide,” he added before stating that division is a barrier to progress.

Check out his statement and the interview that caused the outcry below.

Latto Says “Leave Me Alone” As Fans Attempt To Stir Up Beef With Ice Spice

Latto is defending herself after Ice Spice fans online recently accused her of copying the rising star Bronx rapper.

While the Columbus, Ohio native has gotten into her fair share of beef with the ladies of rap, Latto claimed fans are stirring the pot to create an issue with Ice Spice.

Back in January, Latto was accused of shading Ice Spice when she failed to recognize the lyrics to her hit single “Bikini Bottom.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Neighborhood Talk (@theneighborhoodtalk)

The drama returned again last week (Mar. 17) after Ice Spice tweeted, “B###### aint taking s### from me but notes.”

A few hours later, Latto took to Twitter in between promo for her new single with her own message. “B###### PUSSC ain’t taking NUN!!!” she penned.

Although Latto didn’t direct her comment towards Ice Spice, fans put two and two together, claiming it was a clap back. Some social media sleuths soon began digging in the files and concluded that the RCA artist copies the “Munch” rapper.

One Twitter thread titled gathered the so-called receipts. Among them are photos of the women posing similarly with the conclusion, “Latto is obsessed with Ice Spice.”

https://twitter.com/featurespice/status/1636938835098517505?s=20

Then on Tuesday evening, Latto reshared a post on her Instagram story, seemingly denying she was copying the pose Ice Spice used on the cover of her Like.. ? EP. She first shared the post, an image of Latto in the same bent-over stance, in December 2020.

“I don’t like how y’all take my tweets & make them fit ur weak ass narratives,” she tweeted a short time later. She also refuted a claim she was “creating the narrative,” for posting the December pic on IG.

“Every time y’all accuse me of copying folks ima clear it up. Nun mo nun less.💋,” she replied before adding “Leave Me Alone” written on a trio of images.

J. Cole Reflects On Being Viewed As A Leader By New Generation Of Rappers

J. Cole opened up about being an inspirational figure to aspiring rappers in a new interview.

On Tuesday (Mar. 21), ESPN aired an in-depth conversation between J. Cole and Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers. The Dreamville Records co-founder discussed a range of topics during the interview, including the dumbest thing he did as a kid. He also opened up about his role in the rap game.

When asked how he feels about “being a leader” to aspiring rappers, J. Cole said he doesn’t view himself that way. “It never even enters my mind,” he said before acknowledging that some might perceive him that way.

“I’m sure there’s someone out there who, in the same way that I did, looked at people that I don’t actually know as a North star and guiding in light to get to where I want to be.”

He stated his own inspirations from early in his career, including Tupac, Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne, and Andre 3000.

J. Cole continued: “So you know I have these life-changing people who in some way shape or form I was looking at as for guidance. Whether it be creatively musically or like just how I thought they would live in their life. But the truth is, even the kid that out there that maybe views me as a leader, he doesn’t really know how I’m living day to day. He just has to fill in the blanks.”

Eminem On J. Cole’s Influence

It’s not just the new generation of rappers looking to J. Cole for inspiration. In an interview last year, Eminem admitted that he looks to new rappers, including Cole for motivation.

“My role in today’s hip-hop is to always try to be the best rapper,” Eminem explained during an interview with XXL last September.

He continued, “That’s it. That’s how I want to feel inside. That’s what I want to feel. And I can’t do that until I listen to what the f### J. Cole just put out. What the f### did Kendrick just put out?”

He added that listening to rappers like Kendrick and J. Cole makes him “get back on my s###.” However, it’s not their numbers or record sales that push him to greatness.

“At this point, a lot of the big achievements that could come in your career have happened for me already,” Eminem added. “So I don’t hyper-focus on numbers and being on charts. What I hyper-focus on is people like Kendrick Lamar, Joyner Lucas, J. Cole and Big Sean, and watching them and how the f### they’re doing their s###. Because they’re also focused on being the best rappers.”

6ix9ine Hospitalized After He’s “Severely” Beaten Inside Gym Sauna

6ix9ine was “severely” beaten inside a South Florida gym on Tuesday night (March 21). TMZ reports the injuries were so bad, 6ix9ine was rushed to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

Attorney Lance Lazzaro said the controversial rapper was at an LA Fitness when he was ambushed by several men without provocation.

Employees heard the commotion and immediately notified the manager who then called 9-1-1. Police and EMS arrived on the scene and found 6ix9ine bloodied, swollen and bruised. He was then loaded into the ambulance and taken away.

Photos of the aftermath show 6ix9ine with dried blood on his face and a black-and-blue eye. He also suffered injuries to his jaw, ribs and back.

6ix9ine was arrested on several RICO charges in 2018. He was ultimately released from prison in 2020 after he testified against multiple members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang. Since then, he’s been labeled a “snitch” by the rap community. It’s unclear if the assault is related to the case.

6ix9ine has been extremely vocal about his decision to cooperate with the feds. Over the past few years, he’s also continued to brag about being able to roam freely without security. In this case, not having security proved to be a poor choice. Video of the altercation can be found below.

Cassidy Says He’s Biggest Battle Rapper Unless Eminem Wants To Claim Title

Cassidy regards himself as the face of battle rap until someone of Eminem’s stature stakes a claim for the crown.

The Philly-bred rapper discussed his place in battle rap’s hierarchy in an interview with the African Cultural Art Forum. Cassidy explained why he should be considered the biggest star in battle rap unless Eminem had something to say about it.

“It’s nobody else in battle rap bigger than me or did more things than me,” Cassidy told ACAF. “If somebody wanted to try to claim the title, like Eminem or somebody would have to come back and get in the lane and try to claim that they [are] the biggest battle rapper. Because as of this point right now, it’s me.”

Cassidy was asked if he wanted to battle Eminem. The former J Records artist preferred the idea of collaborating with Slim Shady if possible. But Cassidy made it clear he was willing to battle anyone, including Em.

“I’m a fan of Eminem,” he said. “I want to work with him … I ain’t really trying to battle him. But I’ll battle anybody. I’ve battled myself before, so I’ll battle anybody.”

Listen to Cassidy’s thoughts on why he thinks he’s the biggest battle rapper below.

Post Malone Agrees To Last-Minute Settlement In “Circles” Lawsuit To Avoid Trial

Post Malone settled a lawsuit before the case’s trial began on Tuesday (March 21).

According to multiple reports, Post Malone reached a last-minute agreement in a dispute over his multi-platinum song “Circles.” The court learned of the settlement during jury selection for the trial.

Tyler Armes, a member of the band Down with Webster, sued Post Malone in 2020. Armes claimed he co-wrote “Circles” but didn’t receive any credit or compensation.

Armes argued he co-wrote the song’s keyboard chords and guitar melody during a session in 2018. The musician said he was offered a five percent share of publishing royalties after the song was released. He tried to negotiate for more, but Post Malone’s team allegedly revoked the offer.

Post Malone denied Armes’ alleged contributions. His attorneys accused Armes of lying.

“It is an age-old story in the music business that when a song earns the type of runaway success that ‘Circles’ has garnered, an individual will come out of the woodwork to falsely claim to take credit for the song and demand unwarranted and unearned windfall profits from the song,” lawyers contended. “This lawsuit arises from such a story.”

“Circles” peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2019. Terms of the deal with Armes haven’t been disclosed.

J. Cole Reveals Dumbest Thing He Did As Kid & How It Led To “Life-Changing” Moment

J. Cole reflected on his decision to smoke cigarettes as a child in a conversation with Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers.

The Dreamville rapper appeared on the March 21 episode of Myers’ Lead by Example podcast. J. Cole recalled smoking cigarettes at 6 years old when asked about the dumbest thing he did as a kid.

“At 6 years old, I was smoking cigarettes regularly around the neighborhood,” he told Myers. “Just being around the neighborhood … I was always hanging around the older kids in the neighborhood that [J. Cole’s older brother] was hanging around. And they were smoking. And I was young and fearless and trying to be cool. So, it was, ‘Oh, y’all smoking? Let me see that.’”

He continued, “I’m 6 years old. I’m smoking with these kids in the neighborhood that are older than me. And to them, it’s funny. They’re 10 themselves. It’s funny for them to see. Nobody’s really worried about me like, ‘Hey, don’t do that.’ They’re 10 and smoking cigarettes.”

J. Cole said his smoking led to a moment that changed his life. He detailed how his brother learned he was smoking and told their mother. J. Cole tried to lie when confronted by his mom, but he got caught when she smelled his breath.

“This was the life-changing moment right here because I saw her face,” he remembered. “When she smelled cigarettes on my breath, her face was heartbroken. It was disbelief, it was crushed. I remember the look on her face. And she was like, ‘You have been smoking.’ It hit her that her baby is capable of smoking cigarettes and capable of lying dead to her face about it.”

J. Cole learned a lesson that stuck with him to this day. His mother’s reaction helped him understand how his behavior affected others.

“After that, I didn’t need much correction,” he said. “I became a self-corrector. That was the first time that I became aware, ‘Oh, my actions can hurt someone else.’”
