Pap Chanel Talks Future Collab, “Pretty & Paid'” & Wanting To Be The First Female Rapper/Model

Pap Chanel is the definition of Pretty & Paid, also the name of her debut project. Hailing from a small town in Georgia called Milledgeville, the rising star is here to represent all the talented, beautiful, bad b###### in the world, exuding nothing short of confidence and good energy at any given moment.

In describing herself, Pap states she’s “a girl that’s Pretty and Paid, real country girl. I’m finna be a spokesperson for all bad b######. I’m a storyteller, I’m a poet. I don’t like to say that I make music, I like to say I’m an artist. I create visual representations of things that I’ve experienced. And hey, I be painting pictures! I’m a female Picasso. [laughs]”

Boasting an enormous social following of 369K followers on Instagram alone, Pap creates music based on real-life experiences, wearing her heart on her sleeve with each release. To date, she’s had major collaborations with all your favorite artists, including “Gucci Bucket Hat” featuring Future, “Talk 2 Cheap” featuring Lil Baby, “2 Way Street” featuring Blac Youngsta, and she hopped on Jim Jones’ “How You Love Dat.”

Most recently, Pap unveiled her newest project Pretty & Paid 2.0, as she continues on her quest to make timeless music. 

AllHipHop caught up with Pap Chanel in downtown Los Angeles to discuss her roots in Georgia, her biggest influences, going viral, her new project, how she ended up in the studio with Future, her label, working with Jim Jones, advice from Blac Youngsta, goals, and more!

AllHipHop: Being from a small town in Georgia, what was that like growing up?

Pap Chanel: Growing up in Georgia, it was a different type of grind because there weren’t that many resources for me. Especially since I’ve been chasing this dream, it’s not a common thing. Me being from Georgia, being from the country, I just had to think outside the box and be resourceful. Hey, it built me into who I am today, so I appreciate all the hardships. [laughs]

AllHipHop: What part of Georgia are you from?

Pap Chanel: Milledgeville, it’s an hour and a half away from Atlanta. It’s the middle part of Georgia.

AllHipHop: Did you go to Atlanta a lot then?

Pap Chanel: Yes, I used to drive back and forth. I moved about two years ago, so I’ve been in Atlanta for two years.

AllHipHop: Do you love it?

Pap Chanel: It’s okay. Atlanta is fast. Music is live there, I will say that. 

AllHipHop: Biggest influences growing up?

Pap Chanel: Nicki Minaj, Foxy Brown, and Lady Gaga. I love Lady Gaga, I love her whole aesthetic. She is just amazing. One reason why I felt like I fell in love with Nicki Minaj so much and she inspired me, is because Lady Gaga is one of her inspirations as well. Isn’t that crazy?

AllHipHop: Does that mean you might make more pop records, not just hip-hop?

Pap Chanel: Yes, show stopper. I’m finna come like Lady Gaga, do the awards shows and all that.

AllHipHop: When did you start to pursue music? Was there a turning point?

Pap Chanel: Yes. I was trying to go to college, and it just was not coming together. Girl I was putting in the universe that it’s not for me. Every time that I tried to go, something happened. So I sat out a semester and I focused on creating freestyle. One of my freestyles to Tee Grizzley’s “First Day Out” went dumb viral, in a week. I’m like hey now, say now. I need to do this!

AllHipHop: I love that! Even Saweetie, she got her start freestyling in the car.

Pap Chanel: Yes! She did.

AllHipHop: Were you ready for that moment when it went viral?

Pap Chanel: Yes I was ready for it. Because I’ve always said whatever I do in life, I want to be the best at it. I knew it was going to end up manifesting, I just didn’t think it was going to be that fast. When it happened, I’m like [gasps] What the f###? I guess I’m not going to be a news anchor now, I’m a go be a f###### rapper. [laughs]

AllHipHop: Were you studying journalism in school?

Pap Chanel: Yes! I majored in Broadcast Journalism.

AllHipHop: Did Tee Grizzley catch wind of it?

Pap Chanel: I’m pretty sure he did. But you know, a lot of artists be seeing a lot of things. They don’t say nothing. I know I did it better than you did, don’t lie! [laughs]

AllHipHop: Where did it go viral first? Was it Instagram?

Pap Chanel: It was Facebook. I started out on Facebook, I didn’t even have Instagram at first. And that’s how I knew it went viral viral, because it got to the point that other people was getting my video posted on Instagram, so it could go viral on their page. You know what, nuh uh. Let me get Instagram, I need all my fans to come to me. Not to y’all. [laughs]

AllHipHop: How was it building your following from there? 

Pap Chanel: It was actually kind of easy. After that Tee Grizzley style, I said I’m finna be more consistent with freestyles. So I started posting them on Instagram more, my s### was going up 10K a week. I’m like okay. [laughs]

AllHipHop: Do you write or do you spit off the dome?

Pap Chanel: I do both. I prefer to write so it can get more complex. You can get down to the nitty gritty, really explain it and have the whole thought process of how you want to approach the song. But hey, if I’m in the studio and the vibes are there. We got a bottle in there, the weed going. Let’s go off the dome, I’m Jay Z today! [laughs]

AllHipHop: Pretty & Paid 2.0 the project, out now. How are you feeling?

Pap Chanel: I’m excited because that project Pretty & Paid went dumb. My fans just loved it. And that music from Pretty & Paid 2.0 is old music. It’s music I made a year and a half ago. Once I get this next project I’m releasing this fall together, it’s dumb. It’s dumb lit. I want to make Pretty & Paid 2.0, 3.0. I want to keep doing it. You know how Lil Wayne had his Carter’s? I’m a keep mine going.

AllHipHop: We gotta talk about “Gucci Bucket Hat” with Future. How did that happen?

Pap Chanel: So the label that I’m signed to, my CEO, he’s really cool with Future. He was putting me in rooms that I needed to be in. I got close to Future, I let him hear my music. He’s like “oh, shawty hard. I want to help in any way I can.” You know me, you say you want to help? We do the same thing, what you really gonna do? 

Because at this point, once you’re a great artist like Future, you gotta put your hand out and lift somebody up with you. Big shout out to him because he didn’t have to do that, and the fact that he gave me a feature opened me up to a bigger fanbase. I’m a just say this, your girl did just not get one. Okay?

AllHipHop: There’s more coming!

Pap Chanel: There’s more coming. [laughs] 

AllHipHop: What did you learn from being in the studio with him? That’s a legend!

Pap Chanel: He’s great. How he makes music, he doesn’t use no pen, no paper. He sits there and perfects it, just makes sure what he’s trying to explain is understood. Future will be in the studio on one song for 12 hours. And that’s the beauty of it, because you gotta put time into your craft.

AllHipHop: What was your reaction when you heard “Gucci Bucket Hat” back, with his verse?

Pap Chanel: You know what’s crazy? He sent it to me done, with an open verse. When he said “I’m a send to something,” I didn’t think he was going to send that. Because before he sent the song, I already got a snippet on Twitter and everywhere. Everybody said “oh my God, you need to drop this.” So the fact that he sent me the song, [jaw drops]. I was just stuck, what in the hell?

AllHipHop: How was it shooting that music video?

Pap Chanel: That was super fun. That was super fun. I learned that Future does not play when it comes down to visuals. [laughs] He said “I should not have worn this,” this that and the third. We gotta shoot the video again, or shoot one for the next song. I said, “hey, you got the say so. As long as I get me a video out this s###.” [laughs] 

AllHipHop: Damn, so he was critiquing it?

Pap Chanel: Yeah he was critiquing it. He’s like “we could come harder.” I’m like “okay, we can come harder. Let’s do it then.” I love it.

AllHipHop: Y’all shot a whole video, then had to shoot another whole video?

Pap Chanel: Yup. [laughs] 

AllHipHop: Was it the same treatment or different? 

Pap Chanel: Different. The first treatment for “Gucci Bucket Hat” was a scary movie, it was fun.

AllHipHop: Talk about the label you’re signed with.

Pap Chanel: The independent label that I was with first, 1865. I’m still with them, we just combined with Def Jam and 4th and Broadway. My CEO, he always wanted to sign me for years. Once I finally moved to Atlanta, he just stayed on me. He said “you need to do this, you need do that. Come to me with a hit, I’ll sign you.” I did exactly what he said, and now we’re here.

AllHipHop: How was the independent grind before that?

Pap Chanel: It was super hard because I wasn’t staying in Atlanta, I had to drive back and forth every day. I was always trying to make sure I was at my best to get my name out there. You know when you’re independent, you gotta do everything with your money. At the same time, me trying to chase my dream, I also had to make sure I had different sources of income to make sure one stuck. Hey, we gotta do what we gotta do baby.

AllHipHop: Did you feel the pressure?

Pap Chanel: I didn’t feel the pressure because he makes the environment very very less tense, than a lot of other artists. I was in there making it and he was just chillin’.

AllHipHop: How’d it feel hearing your song in Hulu’s “Woke?”

Pap Chanel: That was an iconic moment because it showed me hey girl, I can make commercial music. I need AT&T to hit me up now. I need Chipotle, McDonald’s. [laughs] It was iconic. It felt like the new age, I just heard my song on the radio feeling.

AllHipHop: How was it working with Blac Youngsta? Because he’s funny as hell. 

Pap Chanel: He’s a character! You know what’s crazy? He just tapped in before I got here. Literally 5 minutes before I pulled up. It was great working with Youngsta. He’s one artist outside of us working, he tried to put me in different doors. He gives me opportunities and gives me advice. It was one night, he was giving me advice. “You need to do this. You don’t need to not take one picture on no iPhone!” [laughs] I said “okay, I got you captain.” 

AllHipHop: That’s real! He’s looking out for you.

Pap Chanel: It was dope, he has a huge heart. Outside of him being so goofy on the internet, he’s one of the most generous, charismatic, nice, lovable people I ever met. He’s so sweet.

AllHipHop: How did y’all tap in? 

Pap Chanel: Same, my CEO. He’s just a plugged in guy! [laughs] He’s so plugged in.

AllHipHop: Is that how you got the Lil Baby feature too?

Pap Chanel: No, the Lil Baby was when I first started rapping. I got a cousin in the NFL, he’s like “I just want to help!” So he helped. [laughs]

AllHipHop: Do you have any goals for yourself?

Pap Chanel: Right now, I want to make that song with no expiration date on it. I want to make sure everything that I do is timeless. I don’t want to say I’m doing it for fun. I don’t want to make no song and be gone next week. [laughs] I got different things I want to put my hands in. I want to start modeling. I want to get a Pretty & Paid scholarship going for my ladies. I gotta get the song with Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga.

AllHipHop: Any female collabs we can look forward to?

Pap Chanel: Trina. Big legend, shout out to her.

AllHipHop: What can we expect next? What’re you most excited for?

Pap Chanel: Expect Pap Chanel to be the first female rapper/model. I’m going to be modeling, and I’m going to be rapping. I’m going to be doing that s### for YSL. I got a new project on the way this summer! Everybody follow me, Pap Chanel. All social medias. We finna go up. Hey, I’m a keep it coming. You can’t get bored with a girl like me.

It often happens to the best of us- we form a routine, get comfortable with it and forget to strategize on ways to overcome our challenges. In most cases, the challenges hit as we least expect. While it is often recommended to stick to the daily routine, it may lead to being creatively drained and unmotivated over time. 

Such was the case for a Moroccan come “citizen of the world” music artist, Marocania. Some of the challenges he faced included; Understanding what would be trending in a year, finding a perfect fit for songs, time, creating rapport with other artists, and finding the perfect work-life balance. 

It may sound basic, but understanding musical trends is imperative, knowledge of what is trending and the genres that are most susceptible to the listeners. The rapid technological change has led to drastic growth and change in how music is produced. As a result, a combination of traditional and modern concepts needs to be incorporated into the current production.  

The hit of Covid 19 forced most people to remain indoors for long hours. However, it was a blessing in disguise since media consumption got a rocket burst. A boost led to exposure and expansion of the different information individuals were looking for in the media. As such, music production got a boost and broader airtime with people.

Looking at an artist’s work to check if it is gaining in popularity every day is both tiresome and time-consuming. The competitive nature of the industry poses difficulty in finding a perfect match in a specific genre. On the other hand, artists are facing the challenge of finding inspiration and keeping the fire burning, especially after hitting the headlines. Maintaining an artist at the top of the list for most producers is also tricky as every taste and preference keeps changing. 

Time is precious and a scarce resource that needs to be utilized well. From time to time, music producers find it challenging to keep up with the trends and the rapid developments of nature. Getting a hit requires prompt release of an album. 

Morocania has articulated that most of his challenge has been creating rapport with different artists. Most often, famous artists and the celebrity bracket tend to “feel special,” thus making it difficult for upcoming artists to rectify some of the mistakes that may occur. The pride behavior often makes it difficult to connect with the artist and derails the album’s production. 

Too much work without play makes Jack a dull boy, so they say. The saying cuts across all sectors, including the music industry. Nonetheless, most producers work tirelessly and spend a great time in the studio trying to get things done. However, the efforts in most cases don’t quantify the quality of work produced. Comparing work done in intervals and taking frequent breaks improves results. 

In conclusion, the solution to such challenges is solely on the individual to give their best shot. Also, the key is not in perfection all the time but in enjoying the journey and getting inner satisfaction in everything you do.

On the Flip Da Script Podcast, he gave the deets on how he tried to battle X. Apparently, they shot the movie, in part, right in front of his mother’s house in New Jersey. And a young Budden couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

“It was me just rapping, but he was supposed to rap. This was on — they shot Belly outside of my mom’s building, which was Jersey City. So I caught DMX on one of them nights, but he had to go shoot a scene,” he said.

Juandisemo is a talented independent artist who was born in Columbia and relocated to the United States when he was nine years old. He struggled to get accustomed to the new lifestyle as well as learn English but took it as an opportunity to create a better life for himself and his family. I get it people do not like Joe Biden the way we liked Barack Obama. But we have got to get on some kind of a code as it relates to the information we transfer. People are spreading some of the worst crap on these major social media platforms and they are not being responsible.

We all love Snoop Dogg. I will say it again we all love Snoop Dogg. However, that does not stop a recent post of his from being grossly irresponsible and negligent as a trusted source in the community. Recently, Snoop Dogg and several others who will remain nameless because they are not as important, posted something as if Joe Biden is about to drop a new 1994 Crime Bill.

Before I continue, this is not an attempt to let Buddy Biden off the hook for that noxious, notorious bill. At the time, he said:

“We have predators on our streets that society has in fact, in part because of its neglect, created,” said Biden, then a fourth-term senator from Delaware so committed to the bill that he has referred to it over the years as “the Biden bill.”

“They are beyond the pale many of those people, beyond the pale,” Biden continued. “And it’s a sad commentary on society. We have no choice but to take them out of society.”

In the speech, Biden described a “cadre of young people, tens of thousands of them, born out of wedlock, without parents, without supervision, without any structure, without any conscience developing because they literally … because they literally have not been socialized, they literally have not had an opportunity.” He said, “we should focus on them now” because “if we don’t, they will, or a portion of them, will become the predators 15 years from now.”

This stupid meme that I saw it on so many pages, is riddled with spelling errors and grammatical errors as well. It’s ridiculous! I don’t know why someone would repost something that looks so dumb on their social media. And, if you are going to post something like this and I would imagine you would do your own due diligence in looking at the facts of the meme.

So, a young lady named Reecie Colbert (A politics and culture commentator, host, author, advocate, speaker, and more) refuted the whole post and in a very nice and respectful way checked Snoop Dogg. So, yes the headline is a bit of clickbait. What I don’t understand is why she had to check him at all. Why? Too many people were believing this madness.

Will Smith Trying To Not Think Of Himself As A Piece Of S##t; Says Chris Rock Refuses To Talk

Will Smith directly apologized to Chris Rock in a new YouTube video about the controversial Oscars slap.

The “Men in Black” star stunned the world when he slapped the comedian onstage after he made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and went on to accept the Best Actor Oscar for “King Richard” around 40 minutes later.

Will swiftly issued a lengthy apology for his behavior, resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), and had been laying low for the past few months.

He returned to the limelight on Friday when he posted an almost six-minute video on his YouTube channel titled “It’s been a minute…” and answered a few questions people have had about that incident.

When he explained why he didn’t apologize to Chris in his acceptance speech, Will revealed that they weren’t on speaking terms.

“It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out,” he said. “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

Will also apologized to Chris’ family, specifically his brother Tony Rock, with whom he “had a great relationship.” Acknowledging that their friendship is “probably irreparable,” Will admitted that he “wasn’t thinking” in the heat of the moment and has repeatedly spent the past three months replaying the slap in his head.

“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he assured viewers. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”

The 53-year-old went on to insist Jada “had nothing to do” with the slap and apologized to her and their family for “the heat I brought on all of us.”

He also apologized to his fellow nominees, saying it “really breaks my heart to have stolen and tarnished your moment.” 

He specifically named Questlove, who accepted his Best Documentary award straight after the slap and added, “I’m sorry really isn’t sufficient.”

Will closed the video by addressing those who felt let down by his behavior. 

He confessed he feels “deeply remorseful” for his actions but is “trying not to think of myself as a p############.”

“I know it was confusing, I know it was shocking, but I promise you I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light and love and joy into the world, and if you hang on, I promise we’ll be able to be friends again,” he vowed.

R. Kelly Ex-Manager Admits He Threatened To Shoot Up Documentary Screening

R. Kelly’s self-described manager, Donnell Russell, pleaded guilty to stalking earlier this week.

The man who claims to have advised R. Kelly entered a guilty plea on July 26th to an interstate stalking charge, Associated Press reports.

Appearing in Brooklyn federal court on Tuesday, Russell was accused of using threats, harassment, and intimidation to silence one of the singer’s sexual abuse victims.

R. Kelly was convicted in 2021 of sex trafficking and racketeering, and was sentenced last month to 30 years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace claimed Russell sent threatening text messages to one of the victims and her mother and later shared explicit photos of the victim on the internet.

Prosecutors said Russell’s harassment campaign against the victim lasted from November 2018 through to February 2020, after the woman filed a civil lawsuit against Kelly.

He is scheduled for sentencing on 17 November, when he could face up to five years in prison.

The legal case follows a separate conviction earlier this month which saw Russell found guilty of threatening physical harm through interstate communication after the self-described manager made a phone call to a Manhattan theater claiming a shooting was about to occur in the room where documentary series “Surviving R. Kelly” was slated to be shown.

It resulted in the evacuation of the cinema.

Bun B’s new Trill Burgers is celebrating now that it has been named the nation’s best hamburger in Good Morning America’s “Best in America” competition.

The rapper’s brand, which opened as a series of pop-up shops in 2021, competed in the “United States of Burgers” competition with the saucy OG Trill Burger.

Bun discussed his journey to GMA, saying, “It’s great for me to have a good passion to put behind purpose. For years, rap music and recording was my passion, but now I’m looking to transition into different things. Food is the perfect place for me.”

“These burgers are the perfect way for me to come into the culinary industry, and I can’t wait for the world to have a Trill Burger,” he continued.

Tyga Apologizes To Mexican Community For “Ay Caramba” Video

Addressing offensive language and imagery is a major topic of conversation in modern-day America. Hip Hop recording artist Tyga is the latest celebrity to deal with backlash for what some people see as objectionable content.

On July 8, Tyga released the official music video for his new “Ay Caramba” single. The visuals have amassed more than 4 million views on YouTube, but some critics called a foul on the clip.

For example, the American Cholo podcast claimed the “Ay Caramba” video, not the actual song, perpetuates Mexican stereotypes. Others outright called Tyga’s artistic take on Latin culture racist.

L.A. Leakers hosts Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk brought Tyga and the American Cholo‘s Gill together to discuss the matter. The Power 106 segment included Tyga offering a mea culpa to the Mexican community.

Tyga Says He Did Not Intend To Offend Anyone

“When I dropped the video, I wasn’t in L.A. I was in Europe,” said Tyga. “Then I started seeing a lot of people offended by it and I was kind of confused, so that’s why I didn’t respond. I took time.”

The 32-year-old Californian continued, “I didn’t comment on anything, I didn’t like any posts. I kind of like tried to do my research a little bit. I tried to ask a lot of my friends that I grew up with that were Mexican.”

T-Raww went on to say that he has recorded Latin songs in the past as a way to pay homage to his Mexican-American childhood friends. Tyga also explained that he did not intend to offend anyone with his “Ay Caramba” video.

“I want to apologize to the Mexican community and my fans that are Mexican. I have a lot of Latin fans that are Puerto Rican or Dominican that probably weren’t offended by this video. But, my Mexican fans in L.A., there definitely was some that were offended,” stated Tyga.
