Jay-Z Blasts Perfume Company In Court For “Crappy, Lazy Work.”

Jay-Z testified in court in Manhattan on Monday for the second time after being sued by perfume company Parlux. The brand alleges Hov failed to meet his contractual obligations as part of a product launch for “Jay-Z Gold” cologne.

In the complaint, filed in 2016, Parlux Fragrances claim Jay-Z’s refusal to make promotional appearances cost them $18 million. They state the music mogul failed to attend the “Jay-Z Gold” launch at Macy’s in November 2013. They also say he failed in his contractual obligation to promote the cologne when he missed scheduled appearances on Good Morning America and in Women’s Wear Daily in 2013.

Jay-Z countersued claiming he is still owed $2.7 million under the deal and blames any failings on the company for its poor-quality work.

‘I’ve always had problems with the quality of lazy work that was coming from Parlux,’ he testified at the Supreme Court in New York City on Monday. He later added that the company does ‘crappy, lazy work’ promoting the perfume.

Jay-Z Says “My Name Is On It”

He called a commercial that featured a naked woman covered in liquid gold “B-rate.” He didn’t want to attach his name to the ad which he saw as inferior quality because “my name is on it,” he wrote in an email.

Additionally, he objected to the decision to sell the fragrance at Superdrug, a discount UK drug store chain, and argued it was a violation of their contract. “We are trying to build a brand,” he testified. “You’re almost cutting the legs off from the brand [by] putting it in discount stores.”

However, Parlux says Jay-Z “constantly threw sand in the gears.” Claims which Hov vehemently denies. When asked in court if he wanted the perfume to fail, he responded “Absolutely not,” and explained that the cologne failing would be a loss for his brand as the product carries his name.

“If I hurt Parlux and I hurt “Gold Jay-Z” — they are in my name,” he said. “I’m not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.”

Further, he added “My name is everything to me,” and said out of all the products in his brand the cologne was the only one to bear his name.

This story is developing.

Jay-Z is currently staring in the “About Love” campaign for Tiffanys with wife, Beyonce.

Boosie Badazz: Fans Tell Me Don’t Let Nobody Silence You

Over the last several years, Boosie Badazz shared his disapproving opinions about men in prison having sex with each other, Dwayne Wade’s then-12-year-old transgender daughter, and Lil Nas X being an openly gay rapper.

Those comments about the LGBTQ community included Boosie calling Lil Nas X a “f#####” and telling the 22-year-old hitmaker to commit suicide. Boosie was widely criticized for his homophobic rants, but many people still support the Baton Rouge native.

According to Boosie Badazz, his fans constantly show him love in public despite receiving backlash online. He took to social media to post a video about his recent experience while shopping.

“I was out making groceries, eight different people came up to me and told me, ‘You the voice I ain’t got, bruh,'” said Boosie. “Eight different people told me, ‘Don’t let nobody silence you, bruh. You all we got, bruh.'”

The 38-year-old Goat Talk 3 creator continued, “Eight different people just told me that in three hours. Like, man, s### crazy. About four women and four dudes said the exact same thing. I’m making a difference.”

Boosie Badazz became an extremely polarizing figure once he decided to go on an unprovoked public crusade against Lil Nas X. Even LNX’s family members got involved in the months-long back-and-forth.

Lil Nas X’s father, Robert Stafford, called out Boosie Badzz as a hypocrite for “promoting drugs, gun violence, degrading women, and getting high every video” to children. Boosie responded by suggesting Stafford was hurt that his son came out as gay.

Cardi B Clarifies Her Comments That Rappers “Need To Stop Doing Lean & Smoking Weed”

Cardi B caused a stir following a recent Instagram Livestream and had to take to Twitter to clarify her comments.

During the stream in the early hours of Monday morning (Nov. 1) Cardi told viewers that Hip-Hop has too much “slow s###” and the clubs need her to come back and drop some new music.

“I know what n***as is missing in the club. Me! They missing me, they missing my music,” she said. “And now that I’m in the game and everything and I be seeing all these muthafuckas on Twitter like, ‘You need to have rap, you need to have bars, you need to have this…’ I want to make music to turn the f### up, ‘cause when I go to the club, that’s what n***as wanna hear.”

Cardi continued and implied the wave of “depressing” music is due to artists consuming too much marijuana and lean.

“I feel like we keep hearing the same song over and over and over again. These rappers nowadays, all of them wanna die,” she continued. “They all wanna die. All these n***as need to stop doing lean and smoking weed. You know, this the thing about these rappers, right? They got money and they start buying too much m############ weed, and too much lean and they make that slow s###.”

Again, she says this is all due to a lack of Cardi B. “The club need me,” she continued. “The strippers need me. The hoes need me. The m###########’ get money n***as need me. … I wanna shake my ass.”

Cardi B Takes To Twitter

Cardi took some heat for those comments and woke up on Tuesday morning to some backlash. Those outraged by her remarks would have to wait. The “WAP” rapper told her Twitter followers, “I’m going back to shleep.”

A little later Cardi B came back to Twitter with an apology and clarified her comments using Meek Mill’s “Dreams & Nightmares” and “First Day Out” by Tee Grizzley as examples of the “perfect balance of rap and turn up”

Kobe Bryant’s Estate To Get $400 M After Coca-Cola Acquires BodyArmor

The estate of Kobe Bryant has reportedly made $400 million in the sale of BodyArmor to Coca-Cola. Kobe Bryant acquired a 10 percent stake in BodyArmor in 2013. He paid $6 million in the deal making him a major shareholder in the company.

Sports Illustrated reported the Coca-Cola purchase means the Bryant estate would earn approximately “$400 million for its stake in the company.”

BodyArmor credits Kobe Bryant as the reason for the brand’s success. “If it wasn’t for Kobe Bryant’s vision and belief, BODYARMOR would not have been able to achieve the success we had,” The company’s founder, Mike Repole is reported as saying in a press release. “I couldn’t be more excited to become part of the Coca-Cola family and set our sights on the future.”

Kobe’s widow, Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram to celebrate her late husband’s legacy with a touching message. She posted a picture of Kobe with the caption “Congratulations Papi!!! This is ‘no pie in the sky.’ You did it!” she wrote. “Always one step ahead. I’m so proud of everything you were able to accomplish. I wish you were here to celebrate. You deserve all the recognition for this. You continue being GREAT. Te amo per siempre. Congratulations Kobe, Mike Repole & @drinkbodyarmor team”

Vanessa added a red heart emoji and continued, “@kobebryant, you are the GOAT in everything you put your mind to.”

Last month, Vanessa filed to trademark “KB24” to create a sports and entertainment empire enabling Kobe Bryant’s legacy to continue.

The trademark application covers digital collectible items, websites, training camps, broadcasting platforms, podcasts, TV shows, movies, documentaries, and music. Additionally, the “KB24” brand will also be used for sports cards, food/drink containers, and t-shirts.

What began as an online battle between Timbaland and Swizz Beatz grew into live performances with the dancehall clash between Bounty Killer and Beenie Man. The format advanced to new heights again following the success of battles like The Lox vs Dipset live at Madison Square Gardens and KRS-One vs Big Daddy Kane live from the Barclays Centre.

Now. the Verzuz team is extending its reach even further with the announcement of the Verzuz Gamez tournament. Verzuz revealed that they would be hosting a Call of Duty: Vanguard world premiere event. Dame Dash Ready To End Feud With Jay-Z “Let’s Talk Like Men”

Jay-Z’s recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame could signal the end of his 20-year feud with Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Dame Dash. Hov thanked his former partner in his speech extending an “olive branch” and now Dame could be ready to bury the hatchet.

The pair started the label in 1995 making history along the way but as Jay-Z’s career grew and parts of the empire were sold, their friendship turned to a feud.

Jay-Z’s acceptance speech could be the beginning of the end of the bitterness between the former friends and business partners.

“Shout out to Dame,” he said on Saturday, “I know we don’t see eye-to-eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments. And I appreciate you and I thank you for that.” He continued, “I appreciate you guys. Thank you for our journey. Thank you for your contribution to this journey.”

During an interview with Page Six, Dame Dash admitted he was surprised to hear Hov mention him and said, “It was beautiful.” Revealing that he wants to end the bad blood between the pair he continued, “I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch] I’ll spin one back.”

“Let’s Get The Lawyers Out Of It”

“I have no beef with [him] if [he has] no beef with me,” he added. Referring to the pair of lawsuits the two are currently embroiled in over Dame’s attempt to sell Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt” as an NFT he said, “Let’s get the lawyers out of it then. Let’s talk like men, but I definitely appreciate it.”

He continued, “I would never want you to think that we have to go to the court to resolve anything. We can talk it out and the culture needs to see two strong black men working out a problem. Even if they worked together, they can go their separate ways they can still be cool.”

Dame said he and the man he considers a brother has accomplished too much to be beefing. He further said the pair should not be divided, even when they’re not seeing eye-to-eye.

Jay-Z’s acknowledgment in his speech meant a lot to Dame. “That means I’m in the Hall of Fame,” he said, “Whether we cool or not, him getting in the Hall of Fame is major. So congratulations to us, congratulations to him and thank you [to him] for keep working so hard to where he got to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Anything he can do to make me great, so thank you for even continuing to strive. He keeps my name alive.”

T.I. Building A Housing Development In Bankhead

T.I. is something to marvel at.

The Teflon emcee seems to not only wear the crown as the “King of the South,” but he maintains his monarchy (despite legal and cancel culture coups that try and take him down) by making good music and giving back.

Last week the Grand Hustler announced on his social media that he was working on a development project to give affordable housing to the poor and unsheltered.

He simply captioned the video post, “BANKHEAAAD‼️”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by TIP (@tip)

“Checking on my development here on Bankhead man,” he says in the video. “Right here used to be the old Kmart Giant Food. Now we got affordable housing. 143 units going up mixed-used community… We’re about 40% done. We’re supposed to be done sometime next year.”

According to T.I., they will have 143 units will be completed by next year for people to move in. It will be a mixed community. In his footage, he also takes a swipe at the many people who claim they are from the Bankhead area of Atlanta and not give back. “I’m not gonna do a bunch of jaw-jacking… I am gonna show mine.”

“I got love for everybody over here, but if anybody got anything to say about me s–t man don’t look at me, look at my work. Don’t look at me look at my work. Look at my moves, s–t we can kill all the cap.”

The development will be called “Intrada Westside” and one of T.I.’s representatives said that it will sit on 7 acres. It will be developed through a partnership between Vecino Group and the multi-hyphenate.

Located at 2174 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, here is the breakdown on the type of homes available for people. There will be 69-one bedrooms unit, 49-two bedroom units, and 25-three bedroom units.

MC Lyte Heading To T.V. With Her Own Sitcom

Fans will certainly cram to understand how Hollywood has taken so long to give the iconic rapper MC Lyte her own T.V. show.

And so it is with great excitement we announce that the “Lyte as a Rock” emcee will be starring in a sitcom called “Partners In Rhyme.”

According to Yahoo News, this will be a seven-episode series and air on the streaming service affiliated with AMC Networks called ALLBLK.

She will star and serve as the executive producer on the show. The character she will be playing is named Lana Crawford.

On the show, her character is a rapper whose label drops her. She has no money (but a lot of debt), and she has to figure out her next move.

She decides to be a manager, and so she gets her niece to let her guide her career. Her niece, whose rap moniker is “Lucious T,” moves in with her aunt, and therein lies the conflict.

A press release breaks down the plot of the show saying, “It’s old school versus new school in this comical look at the record industry through the eyes of a female hip-hop icon and her young protégé.”

“Starring MC Lyte and directed by Bentley Kyle Evans,” it continues. “The light-hearted, half-hour sitcom follows the life of rap pioneer Lana Crawford (MC Lyte). When Lana discovers she is being dropped as an artist from her label and in massive debt, The O.G. rap star is propositioned into managing her niece Lucious T (“Precious Way,” ABC’s “Queens”)…an up and coming Instagram rapper.”

One cool fact is that the lead character’s name is the same as MC Lyte’s in real life.

“Partners in Rhyme” will premiere November 18th.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Halloween Outfit Gets Actor Mark Wright In Hot Water

Some people may call it cultural appropriation. Others think it was just in poor taste to seem to celebrate a man considered a “rat” and “pedophile.”

Either way, actor Mark Wright is facing a ton of backlash for dressing as Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine for Halloween and posting it on his social media.

In a scurry to right his caucacity, Wright has issued a formal apology to anyone who had been offended.

He further added that he didn’t know that 69 was accused and convicted of any of this. He just thought it would be funny.

In a post on his Instagram story he said, “I apologize for the Halloween photos last night. I knew only about the music of Tekashi6ix9ine, not about his crimes. If I knew it, it wouldn’t have been my costume choice.” He also took the picture of his get up, down.

How did he achieve the look?

The “TOWIE” actor used a colorful wig, fake tattoos, faux jewelry, and a bedazzled grill.

Twitter had a ball.

“so we had mark wright as tekashi 69 and holly from geordie shore as jesy nelson do these people not have publicists?????”

https://twitter.com/georgiaas00/status/1455132818426769409?s=20

“Let me guess: ‘Mark Wright apologises after facing backlash over Tekashi 6ix9ine Halloween costume’ right?”

https://twitter.com/nutts_mutts/status/1454846143305760771?s=20

Next time, instead of a rap clown, he might consider something safer … like a witch, rabbit or dinosaur. Which, according to Visual Capitalist, are the top three Halloween costumes of 2021.

Donald Glover Teases ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 & Throws Jab At Lil Dicky’s ‘Dave’

Donald Glover has an issue with people comparing his show Atlanta to Lil Dicky’s Dave.

The multi-hyphenate asserted his FX series was superior to Lil Dicky’s show in two since-deleted tweets on Sunday. Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino dissed Dave after sharing a teaser for Atlanta’s upcoming third season.

“And just for the record, im watching yall saying ‘dave’ is on par,” he wrote. “like yall forgot what we did. no disrespect.”

Donald Glover added, “We got black people on here debating which is better, and IM the sellout?”

Atlanta and Dave have elicited comparisons due to their similarities. Both series air on FX and were created by Hip Hop artists with comedic backgrounds. They also feature rappers as one of the main characters.

Earlier this year, Lil Dicky spoke about Dave being compared to Atlanta in an interview with the New York Times. He called Atlanta “a great show” but pointed out how the series differ.

“I think they’re very different,” he explained. “I think our show is trying to be funny — a lot more jokes. Theirs is just the tonal brilliance. I see them as different shows.”

Atlanta premiered on FX in 2016 but has been off the air since its second season ended in 2018. Dave debuted in 2020 and finished airing its second season in August 2021.

Donald Glover’s Atlanta is scheduled to return in 2022. View the teaser for its third season below.

Mark Spratley AKA SpratFool Talks About His Success, Going Platinum With DDG, His SXSW Legend, Machine & Influence

Many can talk but few can back it up and this man is one of those backing his talk as he continues to flourish, create stars and grow his empire. Mark Spratley AKA “SpratFool” or “Sprat” has paved his own lane within the industry, obtaining success throughout multiple facets from his own label, management, PR, publicity, marketing, event curation, social media, A&R work and plenty more all while creating his own brand and influence. Expanding on with this influence, Sprat has turned into quite an entrepreneur entering the tobacco world, dabbling into real estate and starting his own car rental company.

Turning nothing into something, Sprat has built a prolific profile while developing a few very successful businesses and changing the lives of countless artists or brands. A well known name within the industry that has continued to let his work speak for itself. It’s a good chance that at least once a year he is responsible for one of your favorite new artists getting to the forefront. Becoming a free spirit in the industry, Sprat has created this audience on his own as he spearheads his self ran label Starting Five and chooses to stay independent with his own marketing agency. It is always a sight to see when you can observe one of the next big industry moguls navigate his way throughout music and life.

Mark Spratley is one of those moguls to watch, as in just under 7 years, the New Jersey native has created a resume, influence and business that many take a lifetime to pursue or obtain. We have our eye on the young mogul as he continues to set trends, knock down doors, pop off artists and make a significant impact on the industry and plenty of lives. We took some time out to sit down with him as we talked about music, business, artists and more below.

How long have you been in the music industry?
Crazy but it’s going on 7 years right now. I’ve probably been going at it 24/7 for 5-6 years. That’s literally the last time I ever had to clock in to a “job”.

Being independent while coming up off your own name and work is always a marathon. That marathon doesn’t always have all the bells and whistles like a label position would provide you. Whether it’s politics, opportunities, press or acknowledgement, the independent machine seems to catch the tail end at times. Why do you choose to stay independent and build your own label/agency in Starting Five?

I’m a free agent.
I built this all off my own name and work from the ground up. No internships, no family relationships, no college degree, no label behind me, outlet or a powerful name that I could drop. I built this and everything that came with it. To me that is more gratifying than anything else.
Of course you have clients at a label, the label has signed acts lol. Does working at a label or a major outlet help people get their foot in the door or keep them relevant? Yes. But what happens when your time is up at that place? That juice is gone huh? Some work it right and build their own name while up in these buildings, some don’t. I like the path I chose and would never regret it. I built this.
If a situation presents itself that makes sense I’m all ears. At this point in time I do very damn well by myself with my own label/agency. Is that to say I wouldn’t entertain a situation? No, not at all but they would have to present the right position. I’m not taking any position under any one I’ve run circles around, respectfully haha. My resume is proven, the results are consistent, my machine is evident, my influence is strong. That position has to be of power. I bring plenty to the table.
I have something here though. My machine is what these labels are offering to others if not larger. A team that would allow me to do more of what I do best and multiply does make sense right now. My ear would be beneficial to any label.

I’m sure “Moonwalking In Calabasas” and it’s success was not only a huge moment for DDG but the entire team. Talk to us about the record, what was your involvement?

That’s my first plaque, platinum possibly double platinum at that. To have played a pivotal role in the record is even more gratifying, especially to see everything come to life and what has come to fruition since for DDG and the entire team. That’s the best part of it all.
But to spearhead the marketing and roll out behind the entire record/remix and for it to go platinum is a blessing. I put my foot in that record for sure. I think it was just another example of when I really want to press the button, the sky’s the limit for my machine, especially with quality music. DDG slid, Blueface slid and we made something of it. It was a perfect moment to capture the fact that Blueface was” rapping on beat” which literally catapulted the record to go viral off a few tweets from my account. Clearly it was a successful marketing strategy as Blueface team used it for their next single haha.
From the marketing, publicity, press, influence and campaign behind the record and artist, I was all the way in. We really stepped it up and demanded respect. DDG is up right now.
An XXL Freshman, Top 100 Billboard charting, platinum and gold selling recording artist, undefeated PPV boxer, social media star and Youtube sensation. That sounds crazy and it’s only the beginning for him.

DDG is one of the hottest artists in the game right now. Was his success in the music industry overnight? How long have you been working with DDG?

Actual facts!DDG came into the music industry with his Youtube influence but getting the music and respect to where it is currently at wasn’t overnight. That man put in the work, the entire team put in the work, now we are here with so much more to do. Over the past 4 years working with DDG, whenever he puts his mind to something, he makes it happen.
One of the only Youtubers to make a successful transition into the music world. HE DID THAT. It’s pretty dope to say that I contributed and played a large role in that transition.
Our whole first campaign was the “Take Me Serious” campaign from introducing him to the industry, the right people, powering up the sound, demanding respect and solidifying the foundation. Mission complete.

You helped ‘Moonwalking In Calabasas’ and countless other records go viral. How does it actually feel to be the key behind making some popular records or artists go viral? Does your social media presence play a part in helping an artist go viral?

This is stuff you dream of as a kid. Of course I wanted to be a pro athlete and in some league but to be the power that I am, as young as I am, it feels amazing.
To get a plaque, live this lifestyle and do what I am doing on a consistent basis is surreal. I’m enjoying life. Don’t get it twisted, I work my a** off.
To actually make a record click or an artist buzz is what fuels me. Through all the BS or potential time wasted with some artists or clients, it is still something that I am heavily passionate about. Of course I can go work with plenty of major acts or any label but I enjoy the development process, I enjoy connecting dots, finding talent, aligning stars, curating and providing everything an artist needs to become a superstar. Creating something from just an idea is something special.
I’m here before the label knows of the artist or puts the “machine” behind them. I am the machine that helps bring the artist to the forefront, get known by the label, fans, athletes, artists, influencers, the industry and the masses. I help create the foundation, the following, multiply the fan base and bring an artist to the limelight. I help power up the sound, curate, advise and anything you can possibly think of to take everything to the next level. I bring in the bag and secure it. Each artist or brand is different and needs to be catered to differently. If I become passionate about something and the artist or brand is on the same page as me, there is no limit to what we can doOf course my social media presence helps. I don’t even have a 100 thousand on one platform or all of this “clout”, but the power behind the following I have and the influence that I bring to the table is massive. The respect was earned. The foundation was built. The people and my followers listen and I can’t thank them enough for that. My Twitter is what you can catch me on the most and it is certainly the platform that I make a whole lot go viral on. I definitely talk my sh*t over there haha.
Social media has been a game shark. It’s literally a cheat code. Utilize it.
Your role in many artists’ careers tends to be behind the scenes. You’ve developed artists, aligned stars and shifted the careers of plenty with your machine and ability to “press the button”. Being a respected name within the industry, is being behind the scenes something you are comfortable with? Will we get to see Sprat come to the forefront?

I’m here to win. If an artist wins, I win, if one of my peers wins, I win. I know who I am and what I bring to the table so as long as the respect is on the table I am willing to fill the void or role in any situation that makes sense. Any situation I enter I am still a boss. Whether it is behind the scenes or in the forefront, I’m going to get mine regardless.
To date, I’ve been a firm believer in letting my work speak for itself. Although at this point, It can only help to capitalize on both. The larger I become and continue to make my brand, the easier it can be to continue what I do and take these artists, brands or companies to the next level. I tend to focus on others all the time rather than my brand but I believe there can be a balance for both.
On the other hand, my life is a movie and I get asked all the time why I don’t capture it. I’ve missed out on a lot of content. I think it’s definitely time I start capturing these moments I am a part of and show the public a deeper look at the industry through multiple lenses.
Expect to see a whole lot of me in the near future. You’ll just have to wait and see how.

SinceThe80s president, Barry Hefner created a post that made its way around the industry and was felt by many. It was a post that you recently reposted on social media. Can you talk to us about that?

LMAO, man these artists are crazy. I see it all the time, you would laugh over the BS I deal with. I can only imagine the BS some of my peers deal with as well. It was surprising at first but now it’s almost expected, like okay I know its going to happen but when lol.
I don’t like people wasting my time. Money or anything material you can always get back, I could care less about that, but time you can never get back. It’s goofy how uneducated some people can be when getting into a field they want to pursue. It shows who really was about their business growing up, educated, hustled, touched money etc.
People want the world from you. Granted some of us can give them that but that requires attention, time and plenty more that we have put blood and sweat in for and will have to do once again. People want you to commit to them, blow them up, give your time, relations, connections, knowledge and juice but aren’t willing to commit to you. It’s not even just artists, it goes across the board with a lot of different lanes in the entertainment/music industry. They’ve seen a few idiots complaining that didn’t READ their contracts or took the first deal that came their way from some no name that sold them on the world. Make your own educated decision. Execute.
At some point, when you are really moving, you will need a solid team to help multiply and handle your business operations so you can operate and do what you do best. Someone respectable and proven looking to come in on any situation from the ground up is not only an investment but a risk on their behalf. They invest not only their time but possibly money, connections, relations, energy and reputation.
People will be in the same position years later because they didn’t want to make the same commitment that they are asking of someone else.
Artists are getting a buzz and try to leave the same people that helped take them to the next level and literally ruin the upward motion they were on. Rarely realizing the machine that was behind them until it’s not there any more.
I understand at times because there is a lot of foolery out here in the industry, from BS managers, publicists and more. Understand who you are talking to, understand where you are at, do your research and educate yourself so you can make a proper business decision.
Search Google, check out the peoples resumes and the evidence that supports it. Who have they popped off? Who have they popped off recently? What was their actual role? What do they do? What have they done? You know there are a lot of people that just like to ride the wave.
At the end of the day would you rather make 70-90% of 1 million dollars or 100% of nothing? I don’t know about you but I know what I’m choosing.

Sprat, you do a whole lot within the industry and entertainment world. It’s to the point where people know your name, know your resume and you have actually created an avid base of fans and supporters. Since you do so much, some may not know all that you do or the extent of what you do. Can you talk to us briefly about you and your machine?

My network and relations are vast. I do a bit of everything so it all pretty much runs full circle. The fact that I do everything and do it on another level helps me even more while allowing me to keep a lot in house.
A lot of people ask what I do, I tend to do what I want haha. Some know me for my events, social media, popping off an artist, putting them on to an artist, marketing, PR/publicity, blogging, my Times Square NYC billboards, brand activations and plenty more.
I have my own label, had success in the management world, one of the premiere marketers and publicists in the game, a digital media guru, marketing genius, curator, former journalist/writer, consult, A&R, I throw massive events and mansions across the country while also having some tours under my belt. Just off rip with those my network is ridiculous. Add in the fact that I am successful at each and everyone of those, it only helps propel me and any artist I work with. I have the tools and machine to help any artist function, get to a bag and create an audience.
I am a one stop shop.
As I’ve stated before, “I’m here before the label knows of the artist or puts the “machine” behind them. I am the machine that helps bring the artist to the forefront, get known by the label, press, fans, athletes, artists, influencers, the industry and the masses. I help create the foundation, the following, structure, multiply the fan base, get you in the mix and bring an artist to the limelight. I help power up the sound, curate, create the narrative, A&R, brand, advise and anything you can possibly think of to take everything to the next level. Each artist or brand is different and needs to be catered to differently. If I become passionate about something and the artist or brand is on the same page as me, there is no limit to what we can do.”

You haven’t thrown any events since COVID truly began. Is that something you are looking to get back into? Can we expect you at SXSW 2022?

For sure. Events are always a space I’ll be in. COVID definitely had me put my events on the back burner but I’ve been itching to get back into it. There is a lot on my table right now but you will see more events, mansion parties and some other creative ideas I have in the near future.
I threw an exclusive mansion event a month or so ago to test a new idea I have out. Let’s just say it was a success and I plan on bringing that monthly to LA.
SXSW 2022 I’ll be there if the world permits. It’s been 2 years and my levels have only increased. Prior to COVID the plan was an ATX takeover with Antonio Brown as we were going to flood mansion parties and more with countless major acts. For the return, expect me to curate and take over the whole week.
I think it’s time for SXSW and I to do something as well, so SXSW, Brian, if you’re reading this, let’s make it make sense!

Can we ever expect a Sprat x 40oz Van x YesJulz collaborative event again?People always bring up the events we threw. We made some memorable moments. It’s crazy because I was just with 24HRS the other week and he was talking about the very first 40oz Bounce that 40 and I brought to Austin, Texas (SXSW). It was a movie. The floor was literally caving in. I don’t think people will ever forget those moments. A lot went down that night.Van knows every single time we connect we get a bag and run up a vibe. That is nothing but a conversation.
I’m not even sure if events are what Julz is on right now to be real. She is going crazy with YesJuice and enjoying life. If you haven’t, go check out YesJuice in Florida.
When the time is right an event or party is something that can always be done or discussed. I think the next step would have to be a festival though.

Kiddo Marv snapped on that “Casamigos” record too

We saw you just opened up the official headquarters for Starting Five? A major accomplishment, congrats.

Yeah man, in Downtown LA to! I haven’t had my own studio since the Jersey City days so this is huge. I should have it fully operating by the end of November. It’s going to serve as the headquarters for now. 2 recording studios, production space, office and much more.

It’s definitely an open space for powers and creatives to get busy. I’m going to have that place moving for sure. The idea is to still get the compound but I wanted something solid in the meantime. This place is going to facilitate a whole lot and it will definitely allow me to get back in the studio more and focus on creating.

JayDaYoungan Arrested Again On Multiple Charges

JayDaYoungan continues to find himself in legal trouble.

Just a few months after being arrested for accessory to murder, the 23-year-old rapper was apprehended by police yet again over the weekend. The Louisiana native was booked on multiple charges, including child desertion and drug possession.

According to FOX 8 News in New Orleans, JayDaYoungan was arrested following a traffic stop in Washington Parish, Louisiana on October 30. Jail records for the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office list 10 charges against him.

JayDaYoungan, whose real name is Javorius Scott, was charged with switching license plates, driving without proof of insurance, child desertion, child restraint (second offense), obstruction of justice (evidence tampering) and contempt of court.

He was hit with four drug-related charges: illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of someone under 17 years old, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with weapons present, possession of marijuana and possession of a schedule II narcotic.

JayDaYoungan’s latest arrest adds to his already complicated legal situation, which includes his alleged role in an August 2020 murder in Roseland, Louisiana.

Earlier this year, the Atlantic Records artist was charged with accessory to second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in connection to a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 21-year-old Zion Hutcherson. He was released on a $175,000 bond.

Little Mix Says They Talked To Jesy Nelson About Blackfishing Before Nicki Minaj Controversy

Little Mix had a “friendly, educational” chat with former bandmate Jesy Nelson about blackfishing long before the release of her “Boyz” video.

The singer was criticized in text messages by Leigh-Anne Pinnock for appropriating black culture, darkening her skin with fake tan, and changing her hair for the “Boyz” video.

Now Pinnock and her bandmates have confirmed they spoke to Jesy about the difficulties in the way she presented herself before she quit the group last year.

Jade Thirlwall told Stella magazine, “We don’t want to talk about the video, or be critical, but one thing we will clarify regarding the blackfishing situation is that Jesy was approached by the group in a very friendly, educational manner…

“(Blackfishing is) absolutely not OK. Capitalizing on aspects of blackness without having to endure the daily realities of the black experience is problematic and harmful to people of color. We think it’s absolutely not OK to use harmful stereotypes.”

But the hitmakers don’t want to dwell on their feud with Jesy.

Jade added, “We’ve dealt with it in the best way that we know how, and got each other through it.”

Their comments came after Jesy recently admitted she isn’t in contact with her former bandmates any more, but is hopeful they can put their differences behind them in the future.

She said, “We’re not talking any more. It is sad but honestly there is no bad blood from my side, and I still love them to pieces and genuinely wish them all the best. I loved my time with them, and we’ve got the most incredible memories together but it’s just one of those things which needs to take time, so who knows. To me they are still the sickest girl band in the world.”

D.C. Rapper Walkdown Will Drops New Song While Awaiting Trial For Alleged Murder Of Rival

Recently Washington, D.C.’s rap scene has been incredibly violent. Senselessly marred by either violence or imprisonment, the challenges facing the rappers in D.C. is impeding the area’s growth that it has been primed to see. The recently released Fat Trel is one case where this has gotten widespread attention from the Hip-Hop community.

While some rappers have gotten their shine, we do see artist like the currently incarcerated Walkdown Will whose legal problems and absence from the scene have been notable and well-documented.

On May 7, 2020, the then 18 year-old William Whitaker, of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with premeditated first degree murder while armed.

Although Walkdown Will is sitting in a cell as he awaits the trial for the alleged murder of another rival rapper who had exchanged numerous disses, his team, Major Life Music, has been steadily pushing his music and rising to the top of their city’s scene in dramatic fashion over the last several months.

For this new track Walkdown Will recruited notable PG County, Maryland rapper Goonew who was recently freed from a brief prison stint of his own. While he was released due to lack of evidence, it’s yet another example of an artist’s prime years being jeopardized.

That said, Goonew’s return home has only built further anticipation for Will’s purported release. Check it out as producer Cheecho handled the trunk-rattling production on this song which you can hear below.

Hopefully Walkdown Will’s legal situation can be resolved soon so he can fully chase his musical dreams and live up to the potential his whole region sees in him.

The Universal Hip Hop Museum Partners With AllHipHop.com On Inaugural ‘Hip Hop History Month’ Campaign

The Universal Hip Hop Museum and AllHipHop.com will partner this November to celebrate the inaugural Hip Hop History Month commemoration to present to you, the first annual “Know Ya Hip Hop” campaign.

“Know Ya Hip Hop” is a series of social media posts that highlight 30+ outstanding contributors to the culture. We have considered all of the four elements of Hip-Hop (DJ, Emcee, Graffiti, B-Boy/B-Girl) adding a few that are often forgotten (Fashion, Production, Hustle, etc.). We also made sure that we have a balance of gender, race, ethnicity, region, and all the other things that have divided the culture, to present you a solid list.

“Know Ya Hip Hop” will further debut some special flyers from the museum’s never before seen archive, collected by Paradise Gray (Chief Curator) Prime Minister Pete Nice (Co-curator) for the UHHM’s Archives, Curation, and Education department. These valuable relics showcase some of the earliest concerts of the culture.

Today’s first contributor that we are celebrating is DJ Kool Herc.

DJ KOOL HERC

Jamaican-born DJ Kool Herc is considered by many the “Father of Hip-Hop.” The DJ, instrumental in forming the party crew The Herculoids (which included Coke La Rock who is also considered the first emcee in the culture), threw a  “Back to School Jam ” for his sister at the rec center in his building on August 11, 1973. That jam on 1520 Sedgwick Ave is considered the jump off of Hip-Hop culture as we know it and Herc is credited as the central figure around that historic day.

Check out our first flyer for a concert held on this day, 36 years ago.

IS THIS ONE OF THE FIRST FLYERS TO FEATURE MEMBERS OF THE WU-TANG CLAN?

The Wu-Tang Clan dropped “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” in 1993, but the origins of the group date back nearly a decade earlier to 1985 as evidenced by this rare flyer recently discovered by the UHHM curators.

Pete Nice breaks down the significance of the flyer.

On November 1, 1985, Old Dirty Bastard, the RZA, and GZA shared the stage of Bed Stuy’s Galaxy Ballroom with Dr. Rock of the Force MCs and Tony Ds group, the Bad Boys,  performing their hit “Inspector Gadget” and featuring the female beatbox, K-Love. ODB appeared as “The Baby Beat Box Unique Ason” and the RZA and GZA were billed as the group “All  In Together Now” featuring “The Rap Genius.” Other dancehall and reggae artists also hit the stage that night with specially invited guests Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick also listed on the flyer. This flyer could be the earliest evidence of Wu-Tang members performing in public in existence.

This “Know Ya History” Moment has been brought to you by @uhhmmuseum. Click here to find out more information about the museum and make a monetary donation for the important work we do.’

Will Smith Will Reveal Why He Was Suicidal

Will Smith considered suicide at a low point in his life.

The movie star opens up about his mental health issues in his YouTube Originals fitness show “Best Shape of My Life” and reveals in a trailer he turned his life around after feeling in the “worst shape.”

“When I started this show, I thought I was getting into the best shape of my life physically, but mentally, I was somewhere else,” he says. “I ended up discovering a whole lot of hidden things about myself.”

In the six-part docuseries, Will will attempt to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks and “get into the best shape of (his) life.”

He shot the show while working on his upcoming memoir.

In the trailer, he works out and teases he’ll be “exposing (his) life and so many things that people don’t know about (him),” while revealing “the only time in (his) life that (he) ever considered suicide.”

“Now I’m about to show the world how little I know about myself,” he says. “What you’ve come to understand as Will Smith – the alien-annihilating MC, bigger-than-life movie star – is largely a construction. A carefully crafted and honed character designed to protect myself. To hide myself from the world.”

“Best Shape of My Life” will debut on November 8th, the day before Smith’s memoir is released. The remaining four episodes will premiere daily on Will Smith’s official YouTube channel.
