Where Is Collective Outrage Over Chris Smalls’ Assault In Israeli Custody?

Activist Chris Smalls Beaten and Detained by Israeli Forces During Gaza Aid Mission As U.S. Media Remains Silent

People in the Hip-Hop community may not be familiar with the name Chris Smalls, but he’s pretty famous. He’s the Amazon union activist who once stood in the White House alongside former president Joe Biden. That distinction didn’t help him in Israel. Smalls was reportedly beaten and detained by Israeli forces Saturday (July 26) while attempting to deliver aid to starving Palestinians in Gaza. He and others were aboard the Handala, a ship operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. He was the only Black person on the boat. All others were returned unharmed. How?

According to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, Smalls was the only Black activist aboard the ship when Israeli Defense Force troops intercepted it in international waters. They took the 20 activists into custody. By the way, all of it was documented on social media. It was shocking and harrowing. I thought they were going to be taken and held. Graphic images released by the group show the activists with their hands raised as soldiers boarded the vessel.

On Monday (July 28), the organization revealed Smalls was violently assaulted after his arrest.

“The Freedom Flotilla Coalition confirms that upon arrival in Israeli custody, U.S. human rights defender, Christian Small, was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals,” the organization wrote on Instagram. “They choked him and kicked him, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back.”

Smalls has been featured in The New York Times, CNN, GQ and other major U.S. media outlets. But, it seems most of them have ignored the incident. Smalls linked with Biden in 2022 after his union victory inspired workers across the country. The Times wrote so eloquently about his fashion sense in the style section, but things have changed just a few years later.

These same legacy outlets have remained quiet about the alleged injustice. The IDF must have journalists on the payroll. Only a few reported on this.

“This totally makes sense,” wrote Nathan Kalman-Lamb, a professor at the University of New Brunswick, on Bluesky. “A notable public figure in the US (Amazon labor organizer Christian Smalls) is illegally arrested by Israel and subjected to severe physical violence while on a hunger strike… and not one US media outlet of any type has decided that is news.”

I smell sarcasm.

Organized labor unions have been quiet as well, by and large.

The California Faculty Association isn’t one of them. It represents 29,000 workers. “We further call for an immediate end to the engineered famine and deliberate starving of the people in Gaza, labor complicity with genocide, and all US military aid to Israel,” the union said.

The Teamsters said nothing. In fact, president Sean O’Brien allegedly spent the weekend promoting a chat with right-wing commentator Vivek Ramaswamy. Ramaswamy, who once opposed the president, is a favorite among Trump supporters. Suddenly, it begins to make sense.

The labor unions and the media seems complicit in ignoring Smalls’ beating and detention. They may bash the president or align with him, but they will not cross that invisible line. How long many international human rights violations must occur until we admit that media silence is a powerful form of complicity?

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition has called for the end to the humanitarian blockade of Gaza. And now, the pressure mounts on political and labor leaders to join them.

5 Things Every Artist Should Do According to Rapper-Turned-Manager Phresher

Talent alone isn’t enough in today’s music industry. Plain and simple. Much more is required of artists in this climate. Artists need strategy, presence and adaptability to stand out. Phresher, a one-time Brooklyn rapper, was known for hits like “Wait a Minute” and collaborations with Remy Ma and Eminem. But now, Phresher is making waves in artist development and management. Trading in the mic (for now), he’s focused on mentoring the next generation and helping young artists navigate the game.

The path to success looks drastically different than it did just a few short years ago. Artists today have to be part musician, part content creator and a whole brand. Phresher chatted with AllHipHop’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur and dropped real gems for artists trying to make it.

1. Don’t Be Afraid to Pivot
Phresher isn’t retired from music, but he is evolving.

“A lot of people are afraid to pivot,” he said. “But I saw a loophole in the game: artist development.”

His move into management wasn’t just about paperwork and booking shows; it’s about building artists from the ground up. If your path changes, adjust your playbook, but keep the passion.

2. Artist Development is Everything
Being an artist is way more than just making music. Phresher stresses showing up, knowing how to talk, interview and, most importantly, how to respect the game. “You gotta be outside. Touch the people. You can’t win being Hollywood at home.”

The grind doesn’t stop, but you have to be professional in all the ways these days.

3. Move Beyond Instagram – TikTok and YouTube Matter
“Instagram doesn’t matter,” Phresher declared. “Build your TikTok. Build your YouTube.”

TikTok and YouTube give artists the best shot at organic reach, fan building, and relevance. Stop chasing likes. Start building impact.

4. Stream and Collaborate
“Every artist should be a streamer now,” he said. Whether it’s Twitch, YouTube Live, or IG Live, fans want to see you. New artists should stream your lifestyle and your music in those streams. Also, don’t limit collabs to your own circle. You have to step outside your neighborhood and build bridges.

5. Be You—Unapologetically
“You can’t fit in and stand out at the same time,” Phresher said.

He likens each artists to the uniqueness of fingerprints. Individuality is a superpower. Authenticity separates timeless artists from temporary ones.

💡 BONUS: “Out of sight, out of mind,” he implored. Stay visible. Events, interviews and streams all matter for your brand.

Whether you’re just getting started or leveling up, Phresher’s advice is a masterclass in artist longevity. Be strategic. Be active. Be yourself.

How Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour Turned Her Into Country Music Revolutionary

Beyoncé closed out her Cowboy Carter Tour on July 26 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, ending a 32-date run. She didn’t just break records, she reshaped country music with the tour. With more than $407 million grossed and 1.6 million tickets sold, it’s the highest-grossing “country” tour of all time.

For me, the impact was deeply personal.

I was there in the crowd at D.C., and the second the lights dimmed, it was clear—this wasn’t just a concert, it was a cultural shift. The production was cinematic and her vocals were flawless. The energy in the venue was electric. Beyoncé opened with a haunting performance of “American Requiem” followed by a Jimi Hendrix–style rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” She was setting the tone for a genre-fusing night that moved effortlessly between country, gospel and even ballroom. One moment she was crooning a bluegrass ballad and the next, the crowd was vogueing to deep basslines. Beyoncé is one of the only artists who could deliver that kind of genre-bending brilliance.

With the Cowboy Carter Tour, she became the first woman—and the absolute first American artist—to headline two separate tours that each grossed over $400 million. The mammoth trek followed her 2023 Renaissance World Tour, which raked in $579.8 million.

Even though it was a shorter run, the tour smashed more than 40 records, including:

  • Fastest tour to surpass $400 million (in just 32 shows)
  • Highest-grossing female engagement at a single venue: $70.3 million at MetLife Stadium
  • Record-breaking runs at major venues like SoFi Stadium (L.A.), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London), and Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta)

The tour was about more than just numbers. It was a reset. Beyoncé reclaimed country music’s Black roots, elevated artists like Shaboozey and spotlighted Black creators in Western fashion. Her influence sparked a cowboy-core revival with fans showing up in fringe, boots and custom gear designed by Black women.

In D.C., I saw more than fans. I saw families. They all gathered to celebrate heritage, identity and I saw pure joy. When she closed the night with “Ya Ya” and the entire stadium sang in unison, it was more revival than a concert.

And then there was Las Vegas.

The Vegas finale somehow raised the bar even higher. Destiny’s Child reunited for their first performance in seven years. Her husband, JAY-Z joined her onstage. Her daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi, both made appearances. Rumi even performed alongside her mom, her official debut. With Oprah, Tyler Perry and Kris Jenner in the crowd, it had all the glitz and glam but still felt intimate.

The Cowboy Carter Tour didn’t just break records, it broke barriers. Beyoncé redefined what country music is, who it belongs to and how it sounds. And as someone who witnessed it up close, I can say this: she preached. It was intentional, inspirational and it worked.

Whether you caught one show or followed the whole tour, one thing is certain: Beyoncé didn’t just ride into country music—she galloped in, bold and brilliant, forever changing the game.

Frank Ocean Reportedly Threatened Tyler, The Creator With Legal Action

Damn, this is the oddest future ever.

Frank Ocean and Tyler, The Creator are two of the most brilliant, enigmatic minds in modern rap. And they have unfollowed each other on social media. That may seem trivial, but it’s not. We are definitely in an era where everyone is clout-tapping and algorithm-chasing (or is that reversed?). But this isn’t that. This is personal. And it didn’t stop there. Hell, Tyler even unfollowed Frank’s fashion brand, Homer. TF. That move alone had longtime fans clutching their pearls.

So what’s really going on?

Let’s walk this down carefully. The unfollowing came with no real drama. No bars aimed at each other. Frank Ocean recently released the Channel Orange vinyl and something happened. Two tracks were noticeably missing.White,” produced by Tyler, and “Golden Girl,” which features him were both gone. Why? Some say licensing. Maybe. Pettiness? Hmmmmmm….

Tyler, The Creator recently told fans that a “longtime friend” threatened to sue him over a feature he wanted to drop. Tyler never said who, but the streets are saying it was Frank. This isn’t far-fetched either. Frank reportedly threatened Travis Scott during the Astroworld album rollout. It could be nothing or it could be everything.

Then, Tyler dropped Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale with surprise features by Kanye West, Vince Staples, A$AP Rocky but not Frank Ocean. Now his new record, Don’t Tap the Glass, continues the trend. Frank is M.I.A. despite being such a pivotal part of Tyler’s history.

This feels like the final nail in the Odd Future casket, at least for these two.

Odd Future has been more of a concept for a while now. In 2015, Tyler said, “I don’t think OF is coming back.” Still, he has never said there was an official breakup. Maybe that was a respect thing. Maybe he didn’t want to cross what they represented. They were a rebellion in creativity.

Sources close to the situation say a cease-and-desist from Frank Ocean over the use of his old vocals might’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back. Seriously, legal threats between friends is a big issue.

The optimist in me wants to believe they’ll make nice again. But I knows how ego, age and artistic ambition can become a cancer. They aren’t teenagers anymore. They’re grown, running empires and making space for their own big brands.

Hopefully, Earl Sweatshirt’s lurking somewhere with a project. Until then, I’ll be listening to that new Clipse album and wondering what could have been.

Curren$y Shuts Down Freddie Gibbs “Beef”—Drops Classy Response In Comments

What do we have here?

Curren$y and Freddie Gibbs might have made magic once, but it looks like there won’t be a Fetti 2. The internet might just short-circuit from the maturity Spitta just displayed.

While fans are still bumpin’ Alfredo 2, the long-awaited sequel from Gibbs and Alchemist, it didn’t take long for ears to smell the beef. That lurked in “Gas Station Sushi,” a track where Gibbs sneak-disses someone that loves vintage Chevys. Many speculated (clearly) the bar—Could’ve ran that Fetti by myself”—was a jab at Curren$y. They put in good work on Fetti and their creative chemistry was awesome IN SONG. But in real life, not so much. Some folks braced for lyrical warfare, but Spitta had other plans. He’s basically ignoring it.

Curren$y addressed it before but said something new in his comments section. The New Orleans native addressed it plainly. It would be “corny” to respond to Freddie. That’s it. No beef, just vibes…and his new project, 730.

Freddie never named Curren$y outright, so he didn’t drop a bomb. I do believe the fans were ready to start placing bets.

But Curren$y is a chill, laid back dude. The man known largely for outworking most of the industry and not ever raising his voice. He’s clearly staying focused on his cars and peace. The streets are begging for “blood,” but he’s not with it.

Interestingly, 730 includes a few special guests and bonus tracks at the end.

Curren$y might be leaving space for it, but don’t hold your breath. He’s not stepping out his lane for this. Freddie fans are happy. Spitta’s fans are about to be fed. They just won’t be chewing on beef—it’s simply not on the menu.

What the heck…let run that Fetti back.

Lil Baby Gives 4,000 Atlanta Families Back-To-School Day They’ll Never Forget

Lil Baby brought school spirit and serious support to Atlanta’s West End with the launch of his nonprofit, The Jones Project and his fifth annual Back to School Fest, where more than 4,000 families received free supplies, food and fun.

The event, held at West End Production Park, was part giveaway, part block party.

Students from kindergarten through 12th grade picked up backpacks, uniforms, wellness kits, shoes and custom gear—all at no cost. The day also featured carnival rides, bounce houses, face painting and free haircuts and braiding services.

“I love them like they love me,” Lil Baby told The Atlanta Voice during the event. “It means a lot to be able to come back and give back, because I know so much comes behind not having shoes and school utensils and stuff for school. Because that be a lot of kids’ reason to steer off.”

He continued, “To know that the parents don’t have to stress about this part makes me feel good.”

The Jones Project focuses on helping families in Atlanta’s West End by removing obstacles that can impact a child’s education—like not having the right supplies or clothes. The nonprofit’s mission is rooted in Lil Baby’s own experiences growing up in the area.

Local leaders, including Atlanta City Councilmembers and Board of Education representatives, were on hand to show support. Sponsors like Zaxby’s, Slim & Husky’s and Dr. Bombay Ice Cream provided food and treats throughout the day.

Skepta Drops Third Diss “Junior’s Law”—Joyner Lucas Labels It Trash

Joyner Lucas was distinctly unimpressed after hearing Skepta’s third diss track aimed at him Monday night (July 28), calling it “easily the worst one” and brushing it off as background noise while plugging his new album.

Dropping “#JuniorsLaw,” Skepta labeled the clash “Easiest clash I ever had #JuniorsLaw OUT NOW,” taking shots at Lucas for “Cosplaying gangster rappers” and accusing him of using the beef to push his album.

He also name-dropped battle rap heavyweights from both sides of the pond, including Hitman Holla, Arsonal and Shotty Horroh to boost his lyrical credibility.

However, Lucas wasn’t impressed.

“Just heard it. No b#######, this one is easily the worst one I heard out of the 3 skippy. Especially the first half. [trash can emoji] Give it up,” he posted.

In a video shared on social media, Lucas gave a live reaction to the track. “I’m over here minding my business, living my best life, and I guess Skippy dropped a new song,” he began. “I guess the n#### just don’t want to die. But I’m a listen to it and I want y’all to listen to this s### with me. If it’s fire, I might respond; you kinda have to. If it’s trash, I’m not responding, I’m just gone end this s###.”

Joyner Lucas Lights A Candle For Skepta

Before even diving into the lyrics, Lucas lit a candle, joking it was for a vigil. As the beat kicked in, he cracked, “That s### sound like some Power Rangers s### already.”

He didn’t make it far before dismissing the production as “horrible” and Skepta’s bars as “trash.” Lucas also took aim at British rap fans, questioning their standards for lyricism.

He ended the video early before lighting his candle. “it’s over skippy,” he wrote. “ADHD 2 out now bruv. Try Trinidad James or suttin.”

This is the third round in a back-and-forth that started when Skepta dropped “Friendly Fire,” calling Lucas a “joke” and questioning his place in U.S. Hip-Hop. Lucas fired back with “Nobody Cares,” mocking Skepta’s career and ties to Drake.

Skepta responded with “Round 2,” boasting about his triple platinum status in the States and mocking Lucas for rapping in third person. Lucas countered with “ROUND 2KO,” and now Skepta has returned with “#JuniorsLaw.”

Skepta’s own review of Lucas’ tracks? “Both his tracks were horrible [vomit emoji]. But his first track was best out the 2.”

Mariah Carey Insists She Doesn’t Age: “Just Doesn’t Happen”

Mariah Carey is out here dodging birthdays and hyping her next album like aging ain’t even a thing. The 56-year-old icon sat down with Harper’s Bazaar UK and basically said Father Time can kick rocks.

“I don’t allow it – it just doesn’t happen,” she said with a grin. “I don’t know time. I don’t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time – I have a new song that starts with that line…”

She’s got her 16th studio album, Here for It All, dropping September 26, and while she’s been in the game for decades, Mariah’s still on her own wavelength.

And if you thought she was gonna play it humble, think again. When asked which artist she looks up to the most, she didn’t even flinch.

“I’m going to have to go with me!” she laughed. And, love her or not, she still cares what people say about her music.

“It’s nice when people say good things and give you a good response, and then if they don’t like it, and they don’t say good things, you have to be able to push that away, let that go, you know? Because why, at this point in my life, would I really be worried about that stuff?”

She also broke down how she deals with the constant public attention. Spoiler: she doesn’t bother with wigs or shades.

“It’s part of my job. What’s the point of a disguise? Just get up, get dressed, go out. If I don’t want to be seen, I’ll stay home,” she said.

EXCLUSIVE: Diddy, Christian Combs Try To Wriggle Out Of Alleged Yacht Assault With “International” Defense

Christian Combs and his father, Diddy, are attempting to shut down a sexual assault lawsuit by arguing the alleged incident happened too far from California for the state’s laws to apply.

In a motion filed in federal court, attorneys for both men are asking a judge to toss out the case brought by yacht stewardess Grace O’Marcaigh, who claims Christian Combs assaulted her aboard a luxury vessel in international waters near the U.S. Virgin Islands in December 2022.

The defense hinges not on denying the allegations, but on jurisdictional technicalities.

Christian’s legal team argues that even if the claims are true, California law doesn’t cover conduct that occurred outside the state.

The lawsuit accuses Christian of assault, battery, sexual assault and both negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Diddy is also named in the suit for allegedly fostering a “lawless atmosphere” on the yacht and paying off the captain to suppress the incident.

Christian’s attorneys clarify that they are not challenging the court’s jurisdiction over him personally, since he is a California resident. However, they insist that California law cannot be applied to alleged misconduct that occurred in international waters.

The incident reportedly happened on December 28, 2022, during a high-profile holiday charter aboard the superyacht Victorious. O’Marcaigh claims Christian entered the yacht’s recording studio intoxicated, ordered rounds of tequila for guests and crew and later groped and kissed her without consent.

She alleges he followed her to another part of the yacht and tried to force her to perform oral sex before a co-worker intervened.

She reported the incident to the captain the following day, but says she was blamed for drinking with guests and kept on duty. The lawsuit claims Diddy, who chartered the yacht, paid the captain to keep the incident quiet.

If the court denies the motion to dismiss, both Christian and Diddy will be expected to formally respond to the allegations.

Doja Cat Clowns Sydney Sweeney As Racist Controversy Over “Genes” Explodes

Doja Cat clowned Sydney Sweeney all over TikTok after the actress’s cringy American Eagle ad blew up online for all the wrong reasons.

The ad, which awkwardly plays on “great genes” and “great jeans,” has folks comparing it to Nazi-era ideology, and Doja wasted no time roasting the ad.

In the now-viral ad, Sweeney smiles and says, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

The ad didn’t sit well with a whole lotta people, including Doja Cat.

Doja jumped on TikTok and dropped a parody of the ad, poking fun at Sweeney’s lines and facial expressions with her usual deadpan delivery with a redneck accent.

@dojacat

my jeans are blee

♬ original sound – Doja Cat

Doja and the rest of the internet quickly clocked the campaign’s weird focus on Sweeney’s bright blue eyes and blonde hair, which many called out as pushing a whitewashed beauty ideal.

Critics said the ad was pushing eugenics, a racist pseudoscience from the early 1900s that claimed certain people were “genetically superior” and others needed to be “bred out.”

It was used to justify sterilizations, discrimination and Nazi propaganda. So when you put a blonde white woman in an ad talking about “great genes,” people are gonna side-eye that real fast – and the backlash was loud.

One user tweeted, “Doja Cat mocking Sydney Sweeney was not in my bingo card this year but I ain’t complaining.” Another chimed in, “Doja on the right side of history as usual.”

People online said the ad lacked racial diversity and questioned whether the same script would’ve flown if a Black or brown celeb were in the spot.

Meanwhile, American Eagle’s social media accounts are being flooded with insults, jokes and threats of boycotts and threats of boycotts if they pull the ad.

Drake Cancels Australia Tour Dates, Leaving Fans Disappointed

Drake has officially pulled the plug on his postponed shows in Australia and New Zealand after earlier delays left ticket holders in limbo.

The Hip-Hop heavyweight had already performed in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane back in February during his Anita Max Win Tour.

But plans to return for four additional concerts in March were derailed by what his team described as a “scheduling conflict.” The shows—set initially for Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and Spark Arena in Auckland—were initially pushed back.

Now, those dates are off the calendar for good.

“Live Nation Australia regrets to inform you that the previously postponed Drake shows in Australia and New Zealand have now been officially cancelled,” the company announced Tuesday in a statement posted to its website. “Despite extensive efforts to find a solution, rescheduling within the necessary timeframe was not possible. Drake remains committed to returning and performing these shows when his schedule permits.”

All customers who purchased tickets will receive full refunds.

Drake has not issued a personal statement about the cancellations. He is currently on the road for his Some Special Shows 4 U tour alongside PartyNextDoor, with their next performance scheduled for Wednesday night in Amsterdam.

Diddy Tries To Get Out Of Hell On Earth Prison—Again

Diddy wants out of the hellhole that is MDC Brooklyn and his legal squad just submitted a new motion begging the judge for bail before sentencing in October.

His lawyers, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, are gunning hard to get Diddy out of lockup, arguing he’s the only dude in America doing time for hiring grown male escorts to sleep with his girlfriend.

They say the whole thing was part of a consensual swinger setup between him, Cassie, and a woman called “Jane.”

In the new docs, Diddy’s team says most people hit with Mann Act convictions—like him—usually walk free until sentencing.

He’s not accused of messing with minors, and they’re pushing the idea that laws from 1910 don’t match today’s norms around sex. Diddy’s lawyers insist he never hooked up with the escorts himself—only his girlfriends did—and claim the whole situation’s being blown out of proportion.

“He may be the only person currently in a United States jail for being any sort of john, and certainly the only person in jail for hiring adult male escorts for him and his girlfriend, when he did not even have sex with the escort himself,” Diddy’s lawyer Marc Agnifilo said.

In July, Diddy beat the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, but was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.

But the judge still denied him bail, calling him a danger to the public.

“Mr. Combs is incarcerated while everyone else involved in this identical conduct – his girlfriends, the ‘cowboys,’ the agency’s leaders, the p### stars and others – walk free, as they should,” Agnifilo said.

They don’t deny Diddy has a past. The court saw the Cassie hotel video from 2016, and the defense admits he got physical with “Jane” in June 2024—but they say she started it and that’s the only violent moment since his split from Cassie years ago.

Diddy is offering up a $50 million bond, secured by his Miami mansion and backed by three people with deep pockets. If he gets out, he’ll stay at the Miami crib, hand over his passport and check in with pretrial services.

He’s even cool with extra rules like house arrest, mental health treatment, drug counseling, ankle monitoring and private security if that’s what it takes.

The judge hasn’t decided yet.

The Influence Of Hip-Hop Style On Gaming & Virtual Worlds

The effect of hip-hop deeply transcends into the entertainment world. From cool art to movies, the impact of hip-hop can’t be understated. One of the areas this genre of music has greatly influenced is video gaming.

Hip-hop was first integrated into gaming back in the mid-90s. Two of the earliest games featuring hip-hop are PaRappa the Rapper and Rap Jam: Volume One, released on the Super Nintendo. Modern gambling platforms like the casino ohne OASIS are also incorporating hip-hop elements.

Hip-Hop Fashion in Video Game Avatars

Game avatars are the link between the visual and interactive elements and the players’ emotions. That is why modern sites, including non GamStop Casinos, feature games like slots with personalised avatars. Many games, including NBA 2K, allow players to dress up their characters in hip-hop-inspired attire, from oversized streetwear to luxury brands.

In NBA 2K, gamers can purchase outfits such as sneaker brands and Swags, an in-game clothing store with streetwear style. Video games also collaborate with artists and fashion houses. For example, NBA2K has collaborated with:

  • Jay-Z
  • Lil Wayne
  • Kodak Black
  • J Cole
  • Drake
  • Lil Uzi Vert

In J. Cole’s special cover of NBA 2K23, he even teased the RS-Dreamer sneakers. We can’t forget GTA when discussing hip-hop fashion and video games. GTA has plenty of hip-hop references, especially how characters dress in cities like Miami, New York and San Francisco. Another example is Fortnite, which partners with hip-hop artists. Through these collaborations, the game introduces locations and other items featuring the artists’ styles.

Hip-Hop Tracks in the Gaming World

We can all agree that music can break or make a video game. Hip hop influences in-game video environments through music, soundtracks and themed events. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a good example. The soundtrack features different hip-hop tracks on Radio Los Santos and Playback FM, which sets the mood. Def Jam: Fight for NY features hip-hop in the fight format.

In open-world games like Def Jam: Fight for NY, there is even a hip-hop-themed radio station. Players can tune in to different music and beats, which take the gameplay to the next level.

Additionally, some video game soundtracks are adapted from former hits. NBA 2K24’s soundtrack is the popular hit “In Ha Mood” by Ice Spice. The hip-hop artists’ songs are also included in Fortnite and Just Dance+.

The same applies to DLCs. There are several rap-themed DLCs which include some aspects of hip-hop culture. For instance, in Street Fight 6, which has some downloadable content, the theme song “Not on the Sidelines” features rappers.

Street Culture Appeal in Online Gaming and Virtual Worlds

Through hip-hop, online platforms allow players to project their real-world cultural identity. Hip-hop game emotes, especially in Fortnite, allow players to showcase their dance moves. Like Snoop Dogg’s iconic walk featuring the lyrics “drop it like it’s hot”. Drake’s tootsie slide was added in Fortnite in 2020. Other rappers with emotes are Eminem and Travis Scott.

This allows players to emulate trends in the game, which ultimately makes virtual spaces more fun. The emotes can be purchased or earned in the game, which helps in creating more engaging experiences.

Hip-hop influence is also seen in player communities. The gaming and hip-hop music share a similar audience. Therefore, the two industries have collaborated to build larger player communities.

Hip-Hop Artist Collaborations and Limited Drops in Gaming

Some people might argue that hip-hop artists have taken over the gaming scene since the early 2000s. Big platforms like PlayStation Network and Super Nintendo have collaborated with hip-hop artists to bring captivating games.

50 Cent: Bulletproof, inspired by the rapper, was released in 2005 for PlayStation and Xbox. In the game, 50 Cent works with a corrupt cop who is none other than Eminem. The FPS, later on, had a portable version and a sequel, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, in 2009. On the other hand, Fortnite has collaborated with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Nipsey Hussle, Rick Ross and Schoolboy Q. These are just a few names, but the list is endless.

Hip-hop artists also collaborate with big gaming brands to release in-game items and virtual merchandise. For instance, the Travis Scott x Fortnite skin and other cosmetic items from Astroworld. Another example is the Snoop Dogg x Call of Duty Bundle, which includes skins, a finishing move and a blueprint.

Real brands are also not left behind. Designers like Louis Vuitton have launched fashion brands in video games like League of Legends. This shows how much the virtual and real worlds are closely merging.

Conclusion

Hip-hop has been and will continue to influence the gaming scene for decades to come. The music style adds more groove to the gaming scene. It is exciting to imagine what the future holds.

USHER Goes Viral For Singing His Soul Out At Backstreet Boys Show With His Wife

USHER turned heads after a video of him belting Backstreet Boys classics alongside his wife Jennifer Goicoechea during the group’s Las Vegas show at The Sphere on Monday (July 28) went viral.

The clip, posted by USHER himself, shows the couple fully immersed in the throwback energy, singing along to hits like “I Want It That Way” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” from their seats.

The moment quickly spread across social media, with users praising the couple’s enthusiasm and calling it “legends supporting legends.”

The Grammy winner didn’t just enjoy the show from the sidelines—he also posed for photos with all five Backstreet Boys: Nick Carter, AJ McLean, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell.

The backstage moment only added fuel to the online buzz, with many speculating about a possible collaboration or surprise appearance from USHER at a future Sphere performance.

The night out marked the second recent public date for Usher and Jennifer Goicoechea, who began dating in 2019 and tied the knot in 2024. Earlier this month, the couple enjoyed another family music outing at Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour stop in Atlanta.

Dressed in western-inspired outfits, the couple brought their two youngest kids, Sovereign Bo (3) and Sire Castrello (2), to the show. USHER’s 16-year-old son Naviyd, from a previous relationship, also joined and was seen dancing during the performance.

Beyoncé Rewrites Country Music History With Cowboy Carter Tour

Beyoncé shattered records and redefined country music history with her Cowboy Carter tour, which pulled in $407.6 million across 32 sold-out stadium shows, making it the highest-grossing country tour ever and the fastest to hit the $400 million mark.

The Cowboy Carter trek outpaced legendary runs by The Rolling Stones, Metallica and even her own Renaissance Tour, despite having far fewer dates.

With 1.6 million tickets sold, Beyoncé also became the first woman and first American artist to headline two separate tours that each earned over $400 million.

Her five-night stand at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles brought in $55.7 million and drew 217,000 attendees, setting a new record for the biggest single-venue engagement of 2025 and the most lucrative ever for a female performer.

In May 2025, Cowboy Carter posted $157.4 million in gross revenue, the second-largest single-month total in Billboard Boxscore history. The only act to top that? Beyoncé herself, with Renaissance.

The tour wasn’t just about numbers. It spotlighted Black artists’ influence in country music and featured a wide range of collaborators. The final shows included appearances by Jay-Z, Shaboozey and a rare Destiny’s Child reunion, adding to the tour’s cultural weight.

Beyoncé Racks Up Accolades With “Cowboy Carter” Album

The Cowboy Carter album also made history. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Top Country Albums, Americana/Folk Albums and Top Album Sales charts. That made Beyoncé the first Black woman to lead the Country Albums chart since it began.

The lead single, “Texas Hold ’Em,” hit No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in February 2025, making her the first Black female artist to do so.

Streaming platforms saw record-breaking activity when the album dropped.

Cowboy Carter had the most first-day streams of any album on Spotify in 2024 and the biggest debut ever on Amazon Music globally. It also set the record for most first-day streams for a country album by a female artist on Amazon.

In its first week, the album moved 407,000 equivalent units, the strongest debut for a country album in years.

At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé took home the trophy for Best Country Album, becoming the first Black woman to win in that category.

Tory Lanez Heads Back To Court To Fight Conviction In Megan Thee Stallion Case

Tory Lanez will get his day in court later this summer as the California Court of Appeal has locked in August 18 for oral arguments in his bid to overturn his 10-year sentence tied to the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

The hearing, set for 9 A.M. in Los Angeles, marks a pivotal moment in Lanez’s legal fight as he continues to insist he’s innocent.

His previous request for bail during the appeal process was denied, with the court citing concerns over potential flight risk and other legal factors.

Lanez was convicted on felony charges in December 2022 for shooting Megan in the foot following an argument after a Hollywood Hills party. The case has remained a lightning rod for public debate, with even politicians weighing in.

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has stepped into the spotlight, calling for Lanez’s release.

She claims new DNA evidence and Ring camera footage raise doubts about the prosecution’s case. She argued the conviction was “largely driven by headlines,” criticizing both the media and the legal process. She’s reportedly working with lawmakers across the aisle, including California Democrats, to petition Gov. Gavin Newsom for a pardon.

Megan and her legal team rejected those claims outright, calling them “false and misleading narratives” pushed by Lanez’s supporters.

They maintain the evidence used to convict Lanez was sound and that the new claims are part of a broader misinformation campaign.

Megan Thee Stallion Takes On Tory Lanez Supporter In Court

Meanwhile, the legal drama surrounding the case continues. Last week, a judge ordered blogger Milagro Gramz to pay $5,000 in attorney fees to Megan’s lawyers.

The penalty stems from Gramz’s failure to turn over digital records in a defamation and cyberstalking lawsuit filed by Megan in October 2024.

Gramz, a vocal Lanez supporter, is accused of launching a smear campaign against Megan that included spreading false claims about her mental health, promoting deepfake pornographic content without her consent and pushing debunked rumors about missing gun evidence.

Megan’s attorneys allege Gramz acted as a paid “mouthpiece” for Lanez while he was behind bars. The blogger has faced multiple legal setbacks, including losing legal representation due to financial issues.

Veteran Manager Steve Lobel Talks Bone & Biggie, Mentorship & Cleveland’s Next Star ItsHoly

Steve Lobel has long been a behind-the-scenes force in Hip-Hop, bridging eras and coasts. The New York native was blessed with an uncanny ability to spot and elevate talent. From managing Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Nipsey Hussle, he’s also worked with Fat Joe, Run-DMC, Eazy-E and many more.

He’s even taken part in the creative like helping create the iconic “Notorious Thugs” session with Biggie. Lobel’s fingerprints are on some of the most historic moments in Hip-Hop history. Now, he’s putting his energy behind a rising artist named ItsHoly, a melodic but gritty talent from Cleveland. While he’s just starting, he’s already moving with heavyweight producers like Hit-Boy and Cool & Dre.

AllHipHop caught up with Lobel and ItsHoly to talk history, mentorship and the future of real music.

AllHipHop: Steve, you have had such a crazy career. You were in the room when “Notorious Thugs” was created. What was that like?

Steve Lobel: That was 1995. Biggie was at Record Plant in L.A. Puff called me. He said, “Big’s at the studio, pull up.” I brought Bone through: Layzie, Krayzie, Bizzy. Wish wasn’t there. Flesh came but didn’t get on the track. Stevie J, the legend Stevie J, not just Love & Hip-Hop—produced it. Big had cases of Cristal, Moët, Henny, mad weed, Doritos. And in like an hour and a half… boom: “Notorious Thugs.” One of the greatest Hip-Hop records ever.

AllHipHop: That’s legendary. Do you ever sit back and realize the role you played in some of these iconic moments?

Steve Lobel: People like Busta call me “the power strip.” Not the plug, not the connect—the power strip. I don’t take that lightly. I help power people up. And now, I’m working with ItsHoly, who’s the future.

AllHipHop: You brought ItsHoly here with you. Tell us about this new artist.

Steve Lobel: He’s from Cleveland. I don’t work with everybody. I break artists the right way. Not for clout or a viral moment but real talent. ItHoly’s working with Hit-Boy, Cool & Dre, Big Homie G, Dave East. He’s got next.

AllHipHop: Holy, what’s good?

Holy: Man, I’m from a small town in Cleveland with big energy. I gotta shout out Steve. He’s guided me in music and life. I’m melodic, R&B-ish, but I can kick it up. You want Hip-Hop? I got that too. I just don’t put myself in a box.

AllHipHop: Who did you grow up listening to?

Holy: Bone Thugs, of course. 50 Cent, Lil Wayne… and I like Ice Cube. That real, raw storytelling.

AllHipHop: You into sports?

Holy: Boxing. Heavy. I like Canelo and Gervonta Davis.

AllHipHop: What about Terence “Bud” Crawford?

Holy: He’s dope, too. Super technical, ambidextrous, but Canelo? That man is smart in the ring.

AllHipHop: Holy, what do you think sets Cleveland apart?

Holy: We support real music. Rock ‘n Roll, Hip-Hop, R&B. Whatever it is, we show love. That’s why I rep my city so hard. We did a show with Dave East last week. I was just at the Guardians game, on the field. I’m going on tour now with Sleepy Hallow and Sheff G. We moving.

AllHipHop: Steve, this mentorship role you hold…do you make all your artists study Hip-Hop history?

Steve Lobel: Hell yeah. I told Holy, if you’re gonna work with me, you’re gonna learn the culture. Learn why we got here. This culture fed families. Put people on. So you better respect it.

AllHipHop: Any final words?

Steve Lobel: AllHipHop has been around forever. Don’t change up for clout. Don’t chase clicks. Keep doing what you’ve always done—preserve the culture. A lot of these outlets have lost their soul. You haven’t. Stay legendary.

Holy: Facts. Shout out AllHipHop. Shout out Cleveland. Let’s keep building.

Blueface’s Mom Defends Rapper Against Chrisean Rock’s Abuse Allegations

Karlissa Saffold slammed Chrisean Rock on Instagram Monday (July 28) over allegations that Blueface assaulted Rock while she was pregnant, accusing the reality star of “dogging my son” while he’s locked up.

“He just sitting there, just doing the time like it was his problem and his fault. Ain’t complaining. And here we go trying to put some more stuff on him,” Saffold said in a video posted to her Instagram Stories, defending her son amid resurfaced claims of domestic violence.

Rock, who shares a son with the rapper, recently repeated accusations during an interview that Blueface physically attacked her while she was pregnant.

She previously described a disturbing moment from a trip to Las Vegas, saying, “I was in the corner of the bed. He was beating my body. And then he like, ‘If you move, your stomach gonna bleed. I’m gonna kill this baby. You’re gonna be bleeding for a month on a schoolyard crip.’ This is all when I was seven months, six months pregnant.”

She also alleged that Blueface hit her with a car during the same pregnancy.

Saffold, however, pushed back hard on those claims, flipping the narrative and suggesting Rock was the aggressor in their volatile relationship. “Every time we have seen you and John fight, do you not give him that right, left, right, left, real quick?” she stated. “Every time. His PTSD is not set up to walk away from nobody. Just right, left, right, left. Some in these streets got PTSD. You can’t just right, left, right, left, and then they just going to walk off.”

Blueface’s Mom Slams Chrisean Rock Over Pregnancy Antics

She also criticized Rock’s behavior during her pregnancy, implying that she ignored both family advice and medical guidance.

“[Blueface] already got two kids and they came out perfectly fine,” she said. “No issues at all.”

Rock first went public with the abuse allegations in June 2025, saying she was traumatized by the experience and feared for her life and her unborn child’s safety.

Blueface is currently incarcerated and has not responded publicly to the renewed allegations.

Manhattan Shooting Claims 5 Lives—Including Gunman & Off-Duty NYPD Officer

Shane Devon Tamura opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan office tower Monday (July 28), killing four people, including an off-duty NYPD officer, before taking his own life on the 33rd floor, authorities said.

The 27-year-old, wearing tactical body armor and armed with an M4-style rifle, exited a double-parked BMW outside 345 Park Ave. and began shooting inside the lobby just before 6:30 p.m. ET, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

“He entered alone and immediately opened fire on an NYPD officer and sprayed the lobby with bullets,” Tisch said during a press briefing.

The building houses major tenants including the NFL and investment giant Blackstone, though officials haven’t confirmed whether any victims were affiliated with those companies.

After shooting a security guard near the elevators, Tamura rode to the 33rd floor, where he fatally shot another person before turning the weapon on himself. His body was discovered by officers shortly after.

Tisch said Tamura drove from Las Vegas to New York and legally owned a concealed carry permit in Nevada. “We believe this to be a lone shooter,” she said.

Authorities recovered a loaded revolver, ammunition, magazines, a rifle case, backpack and medication prescribed to Tamura from his vehicle. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the motive remains unclear and the investigation is ongoing.

Inside the building, chaos erupted as workers scrambled for safety. Jessica Chen, who was attending a presentation on the second floor with around 150 people, described the terrifying moments.

“We heard multiple shots go off in quick succession from the first floor, and a lot of us just rushed into the room,” Chen told ABC News. “Some went out in the back door, out onto the street. Other people, including me, we ran into the conference room and then eventually barricaded the tables across the doors and just stayed still. I texted my parents I love them. Nothing can describe that feeling.”

Chen said she had trained for active shooter scenarios in school and never imagined she’d face one in real life. “It’s unfortunate that all Americans could think this through,” she said.

The FBI’s New York Field Office responded to assist local law enforcement. “To provide support at the active crime scene in Manhattan,” Bongino posted on Twitter (X).

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she had been briefed on the situation. KPMG, which also has offices in the building, issued a statement: “Our hearts go out to the victims of this horrific act and their families. We are incredibly grateful for the bravery of building security and law enforcement.”

The assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York field office promised the “full force” of the agency in the investigation into today’s shooting.

“You have the full force of FBI New York and full force of FBI to get to the bottom of the answers,” Chris Raia, the assistant director in charge of the office, said.

The investigation into the gunman’s motives and the shooting is ongoing. Raia said that “initial checks of our internal systems have not revealed any information about the subject.
