Dende Talks “2 Sided” EP, Opening For Swae Lee & More!

Dende is here to bless the music industry with his talents, and he’s not stopping until he gets to the top. Hailing from Katy, Texas, the rising star prides himself in his versatility, with the ability to freely bounce between the genres of R&B and hip-hop. And if you happen to cross paths with him in person, he’ll more than likely make you laugh.

In describing himself, Dende states, “I’m a singer. Sometimes I rap. People say l be trying to save rap. I try to save hip hop. No, I’m a singer. I like to make jokes, that’s pretty much who I am. I’m more of a personality at this point, than just the artist.”

Fast forward to 2022, Dende is excited as ever to be releasing his newest EP titled 2 Sided, with the title directly inspired by his sexuality and coming out as a bisexual. The project is spearheaded by lead singles “Sugar Daddy,’ which sees Dende interpolating Estelle’s timeless “American Boy” record, and “Part-Time Dreamer” which details his experiences meeting a woman with dreams and aspirations as big as his.

Regardless, Dende creates from an honest and vulnerable place, creating lyrics inspired directly by real life experiences. As a recording artist, he’s had the pleasure of opening for some of the greats from Swae Lee to Bun B.

AllHipHop caught up with Dende in downtown Los Angeles, who arrived with his group CXR. Read below as we discuss his background, biggest influences, part-time jobs, when he took music seriously, his name, his new EP 2 Sided, coming out as bisexual, his sound, opening for Swae Lee, and more!

AllHipHop: You say you’re a personality, is that because you’re funny?

Dende: Yeah I’m hilarious. I’m actually the funniest out of CXR, that’s our group. He’s the manager [points to Nile], he’s the A&R [points to Mizz].

AllHipHop: What’s the group?

Dende: It’s a management group. Sometimes it doubles as a label. It’s me as an artist, it’s Chris Patrick, it’s Noski, it’s Erykah Officer, and it’s Nashir. Then we have producers.

AllHipHop: What was it like growing up in Houston?

Dende: A lot of people in Houston would try to say that I’m not from Houston because I grew up in Katy. Katy is the outskirts of Houston, it’s 30 minutes away. It was cool. I grew up in a very whitewashed area, so I was the token person over there. [laughs]

I liked Katy though, because it made me the person that I am. I wouldn’t be as funny now if I didn’t have to constantly make jokes to make people like me. That’s facts though. I like Houston. I like the music scene out there, it’s really dope. It’s a huge city, but the music scene is very small. Everybody knows each other.

AllHipHop: Who are your biggest influences? Who influenced you the most?

Dende: Singing-wise? I’ll say John Legend. I really like Saba, I really like Smino a lot. Who else? Al Green.

Friend: Tyga.

Dende: Put Tyga in there. I’m heavily influenced by Tyga. [laughs]

AllHipHop: Definitely want to talk about your new EP, 2 Sided. What’re you most excited for?

Dende: I just want people to hear, of course, what they’ve already heard and be like, “okay, I like this version maybe a little bit more.” Because that’s all I want to do is level up from what people heard. I did interpolations of songs on both of those. One of them was Estelle’s “American Boy,” and the other one is Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On.” I put my own twist on it, made my own connotation of what the song’s supposed to be. I want people to be like, “oh, this is actually really dope. And I’ve already heard this hook.”

AllHipHop: What do you want people to take away from “Sugar Daddy”?

Dende: That I want a sugar daddy. [laughs] When I wrote the song, I wanted a sugar daddy. At the time when I wrote the song, I thought “I could get a sugar daddy right now.” Somebody actually approached me trying to be my sugar daddy, that’s a fact. [laughs] It’s just a song about if I had a sugar daddy, this is what it would be like.

AllHipHop: Where would you go shopping?

Dende: Anywhere out of the country. Maybe France or Italy, that’s where we’d go shopping.

AllHipHop: Are you a part-time dreamer?

Dende: I’m a full-time dreamer. I make music, so to make music or do anything hard, you gotta be dreaming. It’s not a regular life. It’s not regular, you just fly somewhere after two days notice and be like “alright, we’re going to do a bunch of stuff to maybe give me a little bit closer to the dream that I’m trying to get.” When I talk to my friends that have jobs, they get very confused on what we be doing. I feel like a lot of my days are like daydreaming.

AllHipHop: Can you talk about your sound, and flowing between R&B and rap?

Dende: Honestly, I’ve been leaning a lot more into the R&B recently, just because I kept seeing everybody saying that R&B isn’t up to par. And I love R&B. I do rap a little bit still, but I want to lean more towards the R&B. I do think I don’t really sound like anybody though, so that’s cool. There’s a lot of people that do sound like other people,I sound like me. When they ask who you sound like, I usually just say Dende.

AllHipHop: Talk about opening for Swae Lee, he’s a superstar.

Dende: I had a show in New Orleans, it was a Triller event. He was very very late. I was supposed to perform inside, very early during the party. They said “Swae Lee said his flight got canceled, he’s not going to be here until 2am.” The event was supposed to end at 1am. They said “so we need you to perform when he was going to perform, at the time he was performing.” It worked out for me because it got me way more eyes, and I was outside as opposed to being inside where no one else was. It was really cool. When he came, I like Swae Lee so I got to watch him perform. It was really dope, he’s a cool dude.

AllHipHop: Were you nervous?

Dende: I wouldn’t say I was nervous, I was ready to get it over with so I can have fun. That place was weird though, they had women in cages. It was like a Hollywood party. There was a woman outside of the cage, she had a stick. It was cool, I liked it. It was dope.

AllHipHop: Talk about performing at SXSW and what goes into your live performances. I know that’s a big part of your artistry.

Dende: I’ve always wanted to do SXSW. I’m in Texas, so that’s 2.5 hours away from my house. We finally got to do it. We had our own event, we had a CXR SXSW event. It was everything I’ve ever wanted to do in a festival or more, because it’s a week long. I had 6 shows. I had to cancel the last one because I wasn’t taking care of my voice, but it was fun.

A lot goes into my live performances because I have a 6-piece band. I sing. If you’re a rapper, you can get away with just using tracks. But if I’m singing, even though I do have confidence in my voice, it makes the experience a whole lot more if you have the band. I love live instrumentation. For SXSW, we practiced every week for two months just to get our set.

We had two different sets. We had a 45-minute set, we had a 30-minute set that we had ready to just do. It was a lot of work, but it was fun. It paid off because we got a lot from it. We got a lot more fans from it, we got some sponsorships from it. It was dope.

AllHipHop: How’s the independent grind?

Dende: You know, I be broke. [laughs] But it’s okay. I’d rather not have major labels telling me what to do, because I don’t like people telling me what to do. It’s cool. As long as no one’s telling me what to do, I’m rocking.

AllHipHop: What are some goals for yourself?

Dende: A song with Frank Ocean. You know those big cutouts of people, I want to have one in a grocery store. Not for anything important, just to be there. I think it’d look funny. I can do that myself though. [laughs] Also I want to get some Grammys, that’s really what I want.

AllHipHop: What’s it going to take to get there?

Dende: Getting people to vote for me. Really, truly. [laughs] The music is good enough, we just gotta get them votes.

AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let the people know?

Dende: Yes, make sure you all listen to my music because I think you’d like it. I think I’m pretty good at it. I’m good at making music, so I hope y’all listen.

Happy Birthday, Hip-Hop: Rocky Bucano Tells How The Universal Hip-Hop Museum Will Change The Game

Rocky Bucano is the Founder and Executive Director at Universal Hip Hop Museum. Rocky had a dream and that dream started many moons ago with a desire to create a brick-n-mortar structure that would tell Hip-Hop’s special, triumphant and revolutionary story.

In 2022, the structure is being built in The Bronx, where Hip-Hop began. Backed by a gumbo of support – from Microsoft to the city of New York to pioneers to fans – the Universal Hip Hop Museum is destined to be a fantastic structure when it launches in 2024. “I’ve been on this journey for 12 years now,” Rock states matter-of-factly. “It’s 12 years in the making. The beginning was tough, but now the enthusiasm is picking up. We’ve been doing things all around the country.”

There’s something to do as well, prior to the formal launch. At The Bronx Terminal, you can find the [R]Evolution of Hip Hop, “an interactive journey through history using artifacts, multimedia, artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented technologies.” UHHM is celebrating the Golden Era of Hip-Hop, one of the most vibrant periods for the culture. Rocky Bucano and Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur talk about the efforts of the museum, some of the misconceptions, beefs with pioneers and his very interesting personal story.

Did The Game Diss Eminem? The Game Says “No!”

What are we doing?

The Game is making this incredible march to release DRILLMATIC: Heart Vs. Mind. And, he just went crazy.

This is going to be hard to put into words. But I’m going to try to do it. Today, the Compton rapper will release his new album DRILLMATIC: Heart Vs. Mind. The rapper has been going hard for the full length of this year.

He’s done just about everything. And I am not necessarily mad at that, because you have to distinguish yourself from the pack in these competitive days. But it seems as though The Game is going all out, barring none. And he seems to have set his targets on Eminem.

Now this isn’t the first time this has happened with The Game. Earlier this year, he said some stuff.

“Eminem is Eminem, I like Eminem. He’s one of the f###### good MCs, great MCs. I used to think Eminem was better than me. He not, he’s not. Challenge it. Yes, I do [want to do Verzuz against Eminem]. What you mean, yeah I do? The f### you mean? I’m not saying I want smoke with Eminem; I’m saying I want smoke with Eminem, him, and him, whoever.

When y’all say Eminem is better and all that, I see it, I see it. I feel you. And you know what? If you feel like Eminem is better than me, that’s your opinion. But it’s a lot of people that feel like I’m better than Eminem, and that’s they opinion.

Me personally? Is Eminem better than me? Nah, he not, bro. And I think the best way to see if he is or if I am is let’s rap about it. Let’s get up. Let’s get in the studio. Let’s rap about it. Let’s do something. Let’s put something out. Let’s see ’cause that’s what this s### is, bro. It’s rap.”

Suddenly, this song “The Black Slim Shady” hits. The song is 10 minutes long and disses Eminem ridiculously. There are a number of lyrical trickeries, but mostly uses Eminem style on his own.

So, for example, he pretends to kill Dr. Dre. Which is something that Eminem has done. He also raps similar to Eminem a lot, takes an Uber to “Eminem‘s house” with a relative of Stan, a character in one of Em‘s most famous songs.

But is it Game? The Game says NO.

But, Wack100 said they were definitely going to go at Em in a song called “The Black Slim Shady…is this a leak?

This the official track listing for the album.

Paris Hilton’s Mom Confuses Lizzo With Gabourey Sidibe; Calls Singer “Precious”

Reality star and mother of Paris Hilton, Kathy Hilton, just made a major pop culture flub, embarrassing herself and those close to her while offending a whole race of women.

During an appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live With Any Cohen,” the 63-year-old mixed up pop superstar Lizzo with award-winning actress Gabourey Sidibe.

Now before you say, ‘well, it could happen,’ fans are asking to consider this … the two look nothing alike.

The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member was asked to identify people by a picture presented by the show’s producers. When it came to Lizzo, she squinted her eyes and said, “Precious?”

Her co-star Crystal Kung Minkoff, who was also on the episode, tried to help her clean it up and said, “She is precious, though. Lizzo is precious.”

Hilton did not let up. Instead, she said, “That’s what I call her! Her nickname is ‘Precious,’ to me.”

One person commented under the Twitter post by @QueensofBravo and called her “racist.”

“This is a pretty racist comment but because the fans like Kathy, they’re laughing it off,” the person said.

Actress Holly Robinson Pete also chimed in, saying, “Please tell me she didn’t say ‘Precious’…and THEN say “I don’t know her”- THEN say … that’s her nickname for Lizzo Make it all make sense.”

Another person tweeted, “Kathy Hilton is racist and fat phobic as hell for that Precious comment. Also what a 2009 ass insult girl get a life lmao.”

https://twitter.com/tinnkky/status/1557751339714838528?s=20&t=kmSMLv6PdBZl6AHutwCoBA

Hilton has not released a response to the backlash or an apology. Lizzo nor Sidibe have commented either.

MTV Names Saucy Santana As Global PUSH Artist For August 2022

Saucy Santana is having a breakout year as an entertainer. After rising to fame as a friend of the City Girls rap duo, Santana established his own rap career.

A major entertainment brand recognized Saucy Santana as a growing force in the music industry. MTV named the Love & Hip Hop: Miami alum the Global PUSH Artist for the month of August.

“It’s so easy to wake up every day and be yourself, that’s you, that’s the only person you know how to be, and that’s how I’ve gotten this far being Santana the only way I know how,” Santana told MTV.

Over the last three years, Saucy Santana released singles such as “Walk Em Like a Dog” and “Material Girl.” The YouTube vlogger also linked with the Queen of Pop Madonna for “Material Gworllllllll!”

“It became a trend to basically do something regular but call yourself a material girl, it was like using my Starbucks gift card for a frappuccino, I’m a material girl,” stated Santana.

Atlanta rhymer Latto also partnered with Saucy Santana for the “Booty” collaboration which came out in June. The official “Booty” music video has amassed more than 5 million views on YouTube so far.

G Herbo Threatens To Fight A Heckler Over His Son

Chicago-bred rapper G Herbo apparently had a run-in with someone looking to get some clout off his name. The father of three directly responded to the agitator on camera.

The Icewithinmedia TikTok account shared a video of G Herbo addressing another man in public. According to the clip, the person holding the camera appeared to ignite the back-and-forth.

“How badly would I beat your ass?” the unidentified cameraperson asked Herbo. The PTSD album creator was holding one of his children at the time.

G Herbo quickly fired back, “My son will beat your ass. F### you talking about, n####?” As the heckler started to respond, the rapper shouted, “I want you to say something crazy about my son. I’ll knock your ass out right now.”

It is not clear when or where the incident with G Herbo took place. Icewithinmedia’s video has collected more than 4 million views since arriving on TikTok yesterday.

As of press time, G Herbo has not publicly addressed the confrontation. However, he did post several photos of himself with his two sons – Yosohn and Essex – on Instagram last night.

Ariana Fletcher, Herbo’s ex-girlfriend, gave birth to Yosohn in 2018. Essex is the son of the rap star’s current partner, Taina Willams. The couple is also the parents of a newborn girl named Emmy Love.

G Herbo is mostly using his social media accounts to promote his upcoming headlining appearance at Bulls Fest 2022 in Chicago during Labor Day weekend. Additionally, the Republic recording artist hit the stage at the Rolling Loud Miami festival last month.

‘Mike’ Star Trevante Rhodes Reacts To Mike Tyson Blasting Hulu

An 8-episode limited series about Mike Tyson titled Mike premieres on Hulu on August 25. The person at the center of the forthcoming program slammed the streaming service for creating the unauthorized show.

“Hulu tried to desperately pay my brother [UFC president Dana White] millions without offering me a dollar to promote their slave master, takeover story about my life,” posted Mike Tyson on August 5.

The former undisputed boxing champion continued, “[White] turned it down because he honors friendship and treating people with dignity. I’ll never forget what he did for me just like I’ll never forget what Hulu stole from me.”

Mike Tyson further slammed Hulu over the last week. On August 6, he also tweeted, “Hey @hulu, I’m not a n##### you can sell on the auction block #slaveryisover #fuckhulu… Hulu’s model of stealing life rights of celebrities is egregiously greedy #headswillroll.”

The lead actor of Hulu’s Mike has now responded to Mike Tyson’s criticism of the program. Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight, Bird Box) plays the athlete once known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet.”

Earlier this week, Trevante Rhodes shared a post on Instagram about the backlash from Mike Tyson. The former track and field sprinter‘s statement seemed to focus on the idea of differing viewpoints.

“Just as there is an inside there is an outside. I understand. I am a fan as well. Obviously. As Champ honored the great Alexander the Great in his way, I honor him in mine [with] my intelligence, my heart, and my time,” wrote Rhodes.

The 32-year-old native of Little Elm, Texas continued, “Perspective is everything. Perspective is everything. What’s bigger than a name? The education of a vein. Never in vain. Never in vain. Never in vain. Never in vain.”

JT Drags A Hater Over Diss About Her Hair

City Girls members Jatavia “JT” Johnson and Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee came together for an upcoming episode of Revolt’s Caresha Please podcast. Yung Miami also tapped Saucy Santana for the same show.

Yesterday, Yung Miami previewed the forthcoming conversation with JT and Saucy Santana by sharing a teaser video on social media. In the clip, the City Girl is seen wearing a red wig.

Apparently, at least one person was not a fan of JT’s crimson hairstyle on Caresha Please. A Twitter user called the rapper’s hair “a mess” on Wednesday night.

JT did not seem to take too kindly to @_perfextM’s opinion about her wig. The “Act Up” hitmaker fired back at the critic on Twitter by attacking the person’s weight.

“[And you’re] fat as f###, stuck taking selfies & hiding under covers 😂😂😂😂😂,” tweeted JT in response to @_perfextM. That was not the end of the online dragging.

A few minutes later, JT posted, “Like imagine talking s### about ME & You… YOU!” She also added, “Soggy ass b#### pleaseeeeeeee… Chili pepper with legs!”

After a supporter joked about JT being negative, the Florida-raised rapper wrote, “😂😂😂 This [is] my last day I swear.” Meanwhile, City Girls continue to drop new music. 2022’s “Good Love” featuring Usher peaked at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Yung Miami’s Caresha Please with JT and Saucy Santana will premiere today (August 11) at 8 pm ET. Previously, Yung Miami invited Revolt founder Diddy and Hip Hop artist Kevin Gates to the program.

Megan Thee Stallion Teases Finally Leaving Carl Crawford’s 1501

The battle between Megan Thee Stallion and Carl Crawford’s 1501 Certified Entertainment has been playing out for several years.

It appears Megan Thee Stallion is preparing to drop her next full-length project. However, the behind-the-scenes/public drama seems to be holding up the process.

“Y’all know I always have problems with dropping my music under this label, all these games, and having to go to court just to put out my art has been so stressful,” tweeted Megan on Wednesday night.

Hot Girl Meg continued, “Thank you hotties for rocking with me through the b#######. WE [ARE] ALMOST OUT. 👏🏾 LET’S STAY FOCUSED AND RUN THIS LAST ONE UP.”

One of Megan Thee Stallion’s fans stated the promotional launch for the next album, tentatively titled Traumazine, is the “messiest rollout in history.” The Texas Southern University graduate replied to the social media user.

“It’s definitely all over the place lol just being transparent,” admitted Megan. She also added, “Last thing, lol just wait for ME to announce so at least WE can be excited together. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Love you Hotties good night.”

The conflict between Megan Thee Stallion and 1501 Certified Entertainment includes legal action. Back in 2020, a judge granted Meg a temporary restraining order which allowed the rapper to release her Suga EP.

Megan Thee Stallion’s current discography also contains 2019’s Fever mixtape and 2020’s Good News studio LP. She has dropped the singles “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa, “Plan B,” and “Pressurelicious” featuring Future in 2022.

Snoop Dogg Confirms New Music With Dr. Dre After 30 Years

Snoop Dogg confirmed the rumors that he and Dr. Dre are back in the studio, making music together again.

More than 30 years after making their biggest hits together, the duo is working on an iconic collaboration. Whispers of a reunion began last month after early Death Row investor and convicted drug kingpin Michael “Harry-O” Harris let the cat out of the bag during an appearance on Kevin Garnett’s KG Certified show.

The Doggfather confirmed the word on the street on Wednesday night (Aug. 10) while on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie, Day Shift.

“We’re cooking up a little something,” Snoop admitted as per ET Online. “I don’t wanna talk about it too much, but we’re back together again.”

However, Snoop Dogg remained tight-lipped on the details of what he and Dr. Dre are cooking up. “It’s been 30 years since we worked on a record, and we’re doin’ something, we’re workin’ on something,” he added.

According to Harry-O, who spent time in the studio with Snoop and Dre, the chemistry the pair share is reminiscent of Dr. Dre’s 1992 solo debut, The Chronic. “Now you got Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre doing another album together,” he added. “I was blessed to sit there the other day [and watch them].”

Despite admitting he wasn’t sure if the collaboration was public knowledge, he went further. “I don’t know if I’m spillin’ the beans, but I’m tellin’ you, bro, sittin’ in that room [watching them]. I’m talkin’ like Chronic—‘back in the room.’”

While Harris acknowledged he was unaware if he was giving out confidential information, he doubled down on his comment, adding, “I don’t know if I’m spillin’ the beans, but I’m tellin’ you, bro, sittin’ in that room [watching them]. I’m talkin’ like Chronic—‘back in the room.’”

A$AP Relli Says A$AP Rocky Shot Him, Plans Lawsuit

A former A$AP Mob member revealed he’s the man A$AP Rocky allegedly shot in November 2021.

Earlier this year, the 33-year-old rapper was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Police didn’t disclose the victim’s identity, but speculation emerged after A$AP Bari accused A$AP Relli of snitching in April.

Months later, A$AP Relli confirmed he’s the alleged victim in a statement to Rolling Stone. He also intends to file a lawsuit against A$AP Rocky.

A$AP Relli, whose real name is Terell Ephron, accused his old friend of luring him to an obscure location in Hollywood to talk about a disagreement. Ephron claimed he suffered minor injuries to his left hand in the shooting.

“Unbeknownst to Mr. Ephron, A$AP Rocky was not just planning for a conversation and came armed with a semi-automatic handgun,” Ephron’s attorneys told Rolling Stone. “After arriving at the location, a conversation ensued whereby without provocation, warning, or any justification, A$AP Rocky produced the handgun and intentionally fired multiple shots at Mr. Ephron.”

A$AP Relli’s attorneys said he’s dealt with “multiple death threats and irreparable harm to his career in the entertainment industry” since the shooting. They believe his lawsuit will likely go to trial.

A court hearing for A$AP Rocky’s criminal case is scheduled for August 17. He was released on a $550,000 bond in April.

Man Named Demon Speed Arrested For Killing Rollie Bands

U.S. Marshals arrested a second man in connection to the murder of Florida rapper Rollie Bands.

According to WFLA in Tampa, a 29-year-old man named Demon Speed was arrested in Fort Myers on Tuesday (August 9). He was charged with premeditated first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

Speed was apprehended a week after authorities caught another suspect in the Rollie Bands murder case. U.S. Marshals arrested a 25-year-old man named Darren Day on August 2. Day was charged with first-degree murder.

Rollie Bands, whose real name was Ari Williams, was killed in a deadly shooting at the IQ Apartments in Tampa on July 22. He was 27.

Prior to the shooting, Rollie Bands dared someone to attack him in an Instagram Stories post.

“A lot of these n##### know where I live at fr,” he wrote. “I sleep in peace. If a n#### want smoke I’m at my crib in 5 minutes.”

The late rapper’s friends and family believe the online taunting led to his death.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of statement; he didn’t deserve for his life to be taken,” his aunt Towanda Covington told WFLA.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate Rollie Bands’ murder. They’ve asked anyone with information about the case to contact 813-247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).

Irv Gotti Fires Back At Fat Joe, Says They’re No Longer Friends

Irv Gotti responded to Fat Joe, who criticized the Murder Inc. co-founder for airing out dirty laundry about Ashanti on the Drink Champs podcast.

Fat Joe called Irv Gotti a “sucker,” which didn’t sit well with the longtime record executive. The veteran producer claimed his friendship with Joey Crack is over in an interview on Houston radio station 97.9 The Box.

“I feel like [Fat Joe] fooled me,” Irv Gotti said. “He’s not my friend. I was fooled, but in life, you get fooled.”

Someone on Irv Gotti’s team apparently tried to stop him from discussing Fat Joe, but the outspoken New Yorker continued to address the situation in less explicit terms.

“Forget Joe ’cause they don’t want me to talk about Joe,” he said. “So, I won’t talk about Joe, I’ll talk about life. And In life, everyone goes through friends. People who you thought were your friends. I’m not talking about Joe. Let me talk. In life, I’ve had countless friends come and go. But you know what remains consistent and why I get through all of this? My family ’cause I don’t really need friends. I’m more than content going home and spending time with my mom.”
