Machine Gun Kelly Getting Into The Nail Polish Business

Don’t try and put labels on Machine Gun Kelly.

Don’t tell him about the music he should make. Don’t tell him about how he should rock his hair or gear. Don’t tell him how to wear his nails.

The Cleveland native not only marches to his own drum but has decided to make money off his affinity for diversity — and his flair for fashion.

MGK is entering the beauty industry with the launch of his very own nail polish.

What kind of polish would this former Bad Boy artist have?

The name and shades are currently unknown, but the line will be unisex, called UN/DN, will be released in the fall, and is the first product through his partnership with Unlisted Brand Lab.

The Unlisted founder and CEO Candy Harris said via a press release, “We’re honored to be working with MGK on this rare opportunity to build a brand that will progress a category to embody a cultural shift that has been a long time coming.”

This is right up the 30-year-old’s alley.

Two weeks ago, fans might have noticed a hint about a “secret” that he had. He captioned on his Instagram, “i wanna know if i tell you a secret will you keep it.”

Bet you didn’t think he was gonna bank with the nail art, huh?

Lil Nas X Is Criticized For Not Helping His Alleged Drug Addict Mom

People are talking about the Satan Shoe star once again. Lil Nas X, unbeknownst to most people, has a mother that is a struggling addict, according to reports. A drug addict. Damn. Allegedly and all that. In the light of DMX’s untimely passing recently I guess this is now a thing. But his mother is not just any old regular drug attic. Apparently, she is out on the streets begging for food in public, like well lit places that people recognize her.

So the Internet doing what the Internet does, somebody posted a video of her begging for food. The rapper or singer or whatever Lil Nas X is is now has been publicly criticized for having his mother out there like that. And it seems like a really ugly look for one of pops biggest stars. However, I am going to have to rock with Satan Sonny Boy on this one, because people really don’t know how it is with these drug addicts. The human beings that have a major problem, don’t understand some stuff about drugs.

Addiction is a sickness and people need a lot of help as well as care to get better. They also have to want to get better. And, in the event that they don’t want to get better, there is almost nothing that can be done about it.

The sad reality is is I believe that is what we saw with DMX. Those folks that were closest to him were really clear that there was not a lot they could do for him, because he didn’t seem to want to do anything with his sickness. I mean, not to disrespect him, but he did try at times to get help but in other times, I was told there was nothing that they could do about it. Nevertheless, we still want to “talk” to the people who gave DMX drugs recently. At any rate, Lil Nas X plight with his mother is not really our concern anyway. His MOTHER is a concern and hopefully Mama X gets the help that she needs. Some of the critics only wanna diss the Lil Guy.

In the meantime, her son is going to continue on as he was and thriving in a way that only most of us can imagine. Good luck mom.

EXCLUSIVE: AR-Ab Files Emergency Motion To Prevent Murder Victim’s Family From Speaking During Sentencing

Philadelphia rapper AR-Ab is making a last-minute request to a judge, to prevent a murder victim’s family from speaking during his sentencing, which is scheduled for tomorrow (April 15th).

On November 19, 2019, AR-Ab was convicted of conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more methamphetamine, 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, 280 grams or more of cocaine base, and 100 grams or more of heroin.

The government’s case against Ar-Ab and eight of his OBH (Original Block Hustlaz) associates was bolstered after a former associate named Dontez “Tez” Stewart, turned stool pigeon and testified against the rapper during his two-and-a-half-week trial.

Tez Stewart claimed that AR-Ab ordered a hit on a drug dealer named Robert Johnson. Stewart carried out the murder in return for about $10,000 worth of drugs.

The government was planning on allowing the family of Robert Johnson to give witness impact statements during AR-Ab’s sentencing under The Crime Victim’s Rights Act (CVRA).

AR-Ab’s lawyers are taking issue with the possibility of Johnson’s family speaking during his sentencing because the rapper was never charged with the murder.

Stewart was the one hit with a murder charge for killing Johnson. His testimony against AR-Ab led to a reduced sentence of third-degree murder for carrying out the hit.

AR-Ab’s lawyer claims Johnson’s family’s testimony could result in a harsher sentence against AR app, who was never charged with Johnson’s homicide.

“Mr. West has never been charged with the murder of Mr. Johnson, much less convicted. The testimony of Stewart at trial did not bear sufficient indicia of reliability to establish any connection between Mr. West and the death of Mr. Johnson,” explained Ar-Ab’s lawyer, Edward C. Meehan Jr.

AR-Ab’s lawyer is requesting that his sentencing date be delayed, should the court decides to allow the witness impact statements.

AR-Ab, born Abdul Ibrahim West, is facing a life sentence after he was convicted of running the drug operation.

The Feds claim AR-Ab used his record label OBH Records as a front for the massive drug conspiracy.

AR-Ab’s close associate and OBH artist Dark Lo also got caught up in the case, after he allegedly wrote a threatening letter to Stewart, advising him not to testify.

Dark Lo pleaded guilty to witness tampering and is facing up to 15 years in prison for writing the letter to Stewart under his alias Ron Harvey Jr.

The real Ron Harvey was a founding member of the Philadelphia Black Mob who was hit with seven life sentences.

The notorious hitman was accused of being involved in a heinous crime in 1973 in Washington DC, where seven people – including an infant – were slaughtered in a home that was owned by NBA legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

AR-Ab filed the emergency motion today, and a judge has yet to decide as to whether or not Johnson’s family will be able to make a statement during his sentencing.

The government replies to AR-ab attempt to prevent murder victim’s family from speaking during sentencing

AR-Ab could be facing an uphill battle, because Jennifer Arbittier Williams, Acting United States Attorney, also filed a motion, asking the judge to dismiss AR-ab’s last-minute effort to delay sentencing.

“At trial, this Court correctly found that the murder was indeed intrinsic to the conspiracy and ruled that the jury should hear evidence of this murder during trial,” Williams countered. “That evidence included that the defendant ordered a co-conspirator drug trafficker to kill a suspected rival drug dealer, and then the defendant paid the coconspirator with significant quantities of drugs. The defendant offers no compelling justification as to why this Court’s previous findings were erroneous.”

A judge has yet to rule on the matter.

‘Snowfall’ Cast Amin Joseph & Michael Hyatt Talk Season 4, Freeway Rick Ross and Danileigh’s Tweet

Amin Joseph & Michael Hyatt are two actors that play an integral part of FX’ television series, “Snowfall.”

Approaching the highly-anticipated finale of Season 4 on April 21st, the show has viewers on the edge of their seats as they continue to wait patiently in seeing what unfolds from episode to episode.

Written by acclaimed author Walter Mosley, who executive produced the project alongside John Singleton, “Snowfall” takes place during the height of the crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles in the 80’s.

Amin plays uncle to Franklin Saint (played by Damson Idris), while Michael plays his dear mother. It seems everything Franklin does affects his family and close friends, faced with the decision to continue the hustle or surrender altogether.

AllHipHop: How did you get into acting?

Amin: I’m from Harlem, New York. I’d done plays when I was a young kid in middle school, but when I first started taking it serious, I was on the basketball team. My coach told me to go downtown to audition for a commercial because I used to be on the bench cutting up, talking mad smack. I wasn’t getting in the game at all. He knew I wasn’t gonna cut any playing time so he said “yo man get off my bench, go downtown and make some use of yourself.” That’s my first foray into professional acting, the commercial world. I decided to take it serious and learn theatre. I grew up in the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, ended up going to Howard University and studying there in the conservatory under the late Al Freeman Jr.

Michael: I went to Howard too and grad school, we both went to the same program. Didn’t know each other, when did you leave there Amin?

Amin: I left in 2001.

Michael: I was there ‘87 to ‘91 or ‘92, probably ‘91.

AllHipHop: What’re you most excited for with Season 4 well underway?

Amin: I feel good. To have a show about black culture, a certain time period, I feel a circle of truth around my head that we’re telling the story of the late great John Singleton. We’re carrying on his legacy being able to still employ people that he handpicked, that he personally tapped to help their trajectory in this career — that gives birth to a new era of filmmaker and creative, that we’re telling our story made by one of our most prolific filmmakers ever. That feels good to be on our fourth season doing that.

Michael: I agree with Amin. I look at the messages on Twitter and Instagram, I’m grateful that people are connected to the show as they are and they continue to be. Because of Hulu, there’s been an increase in viewing which is beautiful. I love that we’e reaching as many people as we are.

AllHipHop: Amin, how did you feel when you saw Danileigh’s tweet that she couldn’t get into “Snowfall?”

Amin: I think it’s been quite overblown. What I really was speaking to is nothing about the sister personally. A lot of times when we think about the word ‘black’ when it comes to this country, there’s the black people speaking literally, then there’s black culture. “Snowfall” is about black culture, it’s about knowing the history so that we won’t repeat it. When I say it’s a black thing, someone might not understand: if you’re not really investigating the black culture and the relevance this story has to black culture, then perhaps you’re missing something.

AllHipHop: Starting out, did you think the show would be this popular?

Michael: Well you attach John Singleton to something, you know it has wings. I’m not one to really pay attention to numbers, but I knew that it was going to be a beautiful artistic experience. I knew that it was going to be truthful because that’s what John reaches for.

Amin: I thought we would’ve blown up. I thought we would’ve been the biggest thing coming straight out the gate. It’s John Singleton, it’s LA in the 80’s. This is a period piece, it’s on FX, one premium networks in all of the world. Come on, we have talent like Michael Hyatt. Are you kidding me? The young man Damson Idris, Angela Lewis, Carter Hudson, we have a phenomenal cast. I always thought this show would get the eyeballs. The fact we all were dealing with the pandemic, the show was first shown to the audience during the cable paradigm. Now, everyone’s into streaming. Now that people can stream this next day on Hulu after watching it on FX the day before, it opened up a bigger fanbase. No one makes a show for it not to be seen. Being critically acclaimed, that’s up to media, up to critics. Especially a show like this, you want people to see it so people can understand this point of view, this particular type of perspective. I’m glad it’s finally finding an audience. It’s always had a small niche audience, but it’s finding a larger audience like Michael said because of Hulu. We’re game for it all here.

AllHipHop: Walter Mosley said most actors were new to big-time performance, minus you Michael. He said you all were very interesting, intelligent people. How does that feel?

Amin: It’s freaking Walter Mosley, let’s be real. He works on a sacred ground of fiction literature so to have him as one of our collaborators in the writing room, it brings another authenticity. He’s another person personally tapped by John Singleton. Looking at things now, we’re able to see things not from hindsight, but in pure view. What a great pick that was for John Singleton to get with someone like that, to be able to continue to steward the story.

AllHipHop: How was it seeing your character develop from season to season?

Michael: I am learning. Every season, I don’t ever see it coming where Cissy is asked to go. I’m surprised as the next person. I’m grateful for the opportunity to stretch and flex muscles that are necessary to make Cissy come alive. It’s really beautiful, it’s a lovely artistic experience. It really has been for me, and a spiritual one. It’s been a lovely journey.

Amin: You never know what we’re going to be thrown. We do realize with this subject matter that more than likely things are not going to end up well for all the characters we attach to. We’re watching them live their lives, not knowing the ramifications of their actions that we’d see later on. How we could look back in history and see how people were engaged in the selling or the taking, the destruction of their community, the moral fibre of their spirituality, you didn’t see it. I surrender to that each year and see where the writers are taking the story, try my best to embody and surrender to that.

AllHipHop: Talk about the growth of Franklin Saint from asking his cousin for advice to being the boss.

Michael: Working with Damson is watching a child evolve. Damon is so in tune, he’s so passionate about telling the story. He’s new to the game, he’s eager, and he’s wide open. It’s lovely to watch this young man evolve into his manhood, into his artistic adulthood. Whenever we’re working together, he’s incredibly generous. It’s a wonderful energy to feed off of, we thankfully feed off each other really well. He keeps me on my toes. The evolution of Franklin, it’s heartbreaking to see someone who truly had a pure dream to change his community for the better. Truly thought he was doing that not only for his family, but the community as well. To see him go through this journey of learning how to play the chess of life, finding out the hard way that sometimes your best intentions without a clear understanding, you’re going to trip. He’s tripping and he’s trying to find his way. As heartbreaking as it is, unfortunately it’s part of the journey for so many of us.

AllHipHop: Favorite episode this season and why?

Amin: My favorite is Episode 407, so much happens in this episode. It’s one of those episodes. We have our episodes that seem like they’re setting the story up, setting the season up. A lot of those you get that preface, that exposition to set up the season in the beginning episodes. We’re starting to turn that corner to those episodes that make the season what it is, the conflict time. Episode 7 is my favorite for this season because there’s so many things that happen in this episode, it turns the world to where we end up at the season finale.

It’s crazy, we really start seeing the world start to crumble. Things that have been held together, things that Cissy has held together for so long, Franklin, Uncle and Auntie, we see things spraying. People are barely able to hold on to their concept of reality, this episode is quite the shift.

AllHipHop: Michael, do you have a favorite episode?

Amin: Michael doesn’t even watch our work. Michael doesn’t even watch “Snowfall,” she’s the only person we let go with not watching “Snowfall.” She doesn’t believe in watching her work. Therefore, do you have a favorite episode from reading the script? Which will probably be the best way to approach Michael on that.

Michael: I seldom get to work with Amin in the seasons, so there’s a storyline there that I get to work with Amin.

Amin: I’m very sure Michael has been a big advocate of the love between Cissy and Alton. The work that they do this season is phenomenal. We’ve seen some of it, but it’s going to really blossom in the next few episodes. Iit shows really the stakes and what it does, what this whole world is doing to these really fragile relationships of people and the loving bond they have together. I know she was proud to fight for that in this season.

Michael: It’s been a joy to work with Kevin Carol specifically, because he brought to Alton a true fierceness of intensity of passion that only he could have done. Kevin’s a tremendous actor, tremendous human being. He brought such life, such compassion, feeding off of him is so organic and effortless. The energy we have on camera is really effortless. It’s been a joy to go through this journey with Kevin, definitely.

AllHipHop: How was it filming after the passing of John Singleton?

Amin: As one would think, we lost our helmer. We lost the guy who was steering the ship. You can’t replace John. I’m glad our production didn’t go “here’s the new replacement to John,” because it’s impossible. His enthusiasm, his wit, his genius, his creativity, his charisma, that can’t be replaced. What you can do, you can relish the time spent. You can remember the lessons, you can be thoughtful of how you treat your fellow crew member. You can be passionate in telling the story. You can be laser focused into making sure we speak truth to power where it needs to be. Those are things I take from John in a whimsical, child-like enchantment with the filmmaking process. I’ll never forget that about John: he wasn’t serious about filming, it was always a collaboration. It was always enthusiastic, I really loved that about him.

AllHipHop: How do you feel about Freeway Rick Ross saying you guys stole his story?

Michael: Lovingly, I know very little of what’s his name. I’ve heard from other people ‘cause I remember when we used to do the press tours, there’d be some questions about whether the story was his life. I remember John saying “no, this is the life of so many people who lived this journey.” I don’t know Mr. Ross’s experience but it seems to me from the stories I’ve heard from so many people around the country, that this journey is something many people can relate to. I believe what John told me, that this isn’t specifically his autobiography.

Amin: To give another POV from it, I personally know Freeway. I respect Freeway and his story, he has a story to tell unapologetically, through his own lens with his capabilities. He’s a competent businessman and he definitely has a story to tell. There are plenty of similarities in the story that we tell, but Freeway deserves an opportunity for his narrative to be told by him. There’s love and respect for him.

AllHipHop: How excited are you for Season 5? Saw it was renewed, congrats1

Amin: Thank you, we’re back in the saddle. The thing about each season is working with people like Michael, working with my sister, working with Damson my young brother, Isaiah, Angela, Carter, Sergio, Alon, Kevin, that’s been the joy. The personal relationship with our crew, the people we’ve been in and out of this with for the last 5 years, it sounds crazy. With Covid it’s extended a bit so it’s almost 6 years. It doesn’t sound splashy but that’s the real. I’ve had a child, a daughter. Michael has a young son that I’ve watched grown up into a brilliant young man during this time. John was about that as well. John has a young son, he has a birthday coming up this next week. He’s a “Snowfall” baby, he was born the second season of Snowfall. Those things really mean the most to me going into Season 5, ‘cause who knows what those writers are gon’ put us through.

Michael: I concur with everything that Amin said. It’s a joy coming to set for the first day and seeing all of these amazing faces that we haven’t seen for 6 months. Catching up and diving in, creating art. At the end of the day, we’re all artists. Grateful to be employed, grateful to be telling our stories. We’ve all had our rollercoaster, trials and tribulations that artists have. To be here in this historical show, telling the stories we’re able to tell, having the story that we now have as a part of our lives — the stories with John, the stories with Walter, it’s been a phenomenal experience. I’m grateful that we’re able to extend it for another year.

Fans Honor DMX In Front Of His Old Childhood Apartment In Yonkers

The death of rapper DMX has caused unspeakable heartbreak to the Hip-Hop community, as fans of the late artist related so closely to him that they feel like a friend has died.

Through millions of social media-posted expressions of bereavement and condolences, fans only knew Dark Man X through his art.

There are some that looked beyond the rap moniker and are mourning the loss of Earl Simmons.

His beloved Yonkers community gathered outside of the apartment building that he grew up in to show their respect to the “Slippin’” emcee. The vigil helped those who knew him, were related by blood and street codes to express memories of how he impacted the city.

One of them that was echoed was his heart for charity and how he gave of himself to others. His belief in giving back afforded those who came after in the community to form valuable bonds with the chart-topper.

Outside of the various turkey giveaways and random gifts to people in need, he donated to the Nepperhan Community Center and tens of thousands of dollars to basketball programs.

All in attendance showed appreciation for his international acclaim but felt a deep sense of obligation to recognize him in his hometown. While the details are not firmed, the city will host a parade in his honor.

Also, funeral details have not been released as of April 14th.

The star-studded event also aims to “inform and encourage those who have vaccination concerns to learn the facts”.

Rapper NBA YoungBoy Booked Into Louisiana Jail After California Arrest

It seems like it was just last year when rapper NBA YoungBoy was on top of the world. He had all the money he could imagine to toss around.

He had Floyd Mayweather’s daughter, YaYa, stabbing pregnant girls and his music was killing the streaming game.

But as of today, the 21-year-old is held up behind bars in Louisiana. He has been booked and placed on hold at the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and will be waiting until the US Marshal comes to the town to snatch him up.

His stint at SMPCC comes three weeks after getting arrested for a “traffic stop.”

The rapper, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, was knocked by the feds at the end of March in Los Angeles after they caught him with an outstanding federal warrant stretching back to an incident that happened at a video shoot in September 2020 in Baton Rouge.

Almost as dramatic as a scene out of a Cops episode, the “Make No Sense” rapper tried to run away from the law enforcement team on foot after the FBI stopped his vehicle. #ThatWasDumb

A grand jury gave the rapper an indictment for a felon in possession of a firearm. While there are no charges listed publicly for NBA YoungBoy, his detainment was initiated by the U.S. Marshals’ Office.

Hope he don’t drop the soap.

Developing.

Papoose Talks Furious Pace Of Album Releases Before Retirement And Death Of DMX

Papoose plans to drop a new monthly EP throughout 2021, ahead of bowing out of the rap game.

The hitmaker has announced this year will be his “last year rapping”, and he plans to go out with a bang, releasing new music every four weeks.

“Before I retire, to show my thanks and my appreciation to all my supporters, I’m gonna drop an EP every month this year, titled after the current month,” he tells Billboard.

January, February, and March EPs have already dropped and his April release will come before the end of the month.

During his interview, Papoose also addressed his hero DMX’s death, stating, “This guy came from nothing and made himself, he became larger than life.

“Every time I ever ran into that brother, it was a teachable moment, enjoying laughter together, he dropping jewels on (me). I came up listening to X, so to finally meet him and I’m trying to explain to him, ‘Yo, I came up listening to you, I respect your work’. This is a brother who’s not cocky. He’s telling me, ‘Nah, man. I respect what you’re doing, dog. And I wish you the best blessings on your career’. He’s giving it right back to me.”

Dog Attack Comes Back To Bite Chris Brown

Chris Brown is facing more legal woes over an alleged dog attack at his home in California.

Patricia Avila claims she and her sister were hired by the singer to clean his Tarzana home twice a week and all was well until one of his dogs, a large Caucasian Shepherd, wandered into the back yard and attacked while the maids were emptying a vacuum cleaner.

Avila alleges the dog tore into her sister, ripping several inches of skin off her arm and biting her face.

Brown, who was home at the time, called for emergency services and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for days.

She has since been left with severe anxiety and panic attacks, according to Avila’s legal documents, obtained by TMZ.

Avila is suing Chris for damages, claiming he failed to protect her from his dog. It’s unclear if her sister – the actual victim of the dog attack – is filing a separate suit.

YFN Lucci’s Attorney Pushes Back On Prosecutors Claiming Strip Club Visit Violated His Bond

Rayshawn “YFN Lucci” Bennett and his associates are facing serious legal issues. Earlier this year, the Atlanta-born rapper turned himself in to local authorities in a murder case.

Lucci is accused of being involved in the shooting death of 28-year-old James Adams who was killed on December 10, 2020. A second victim, 32-year-old Kevin Wright, was also reportedly shot during the violent incident.

The 30-year-old rap star was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, participation in street gang activity, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Following his arrest, Lucci was released on a $500,000 bond.

According to TMZ, Fulton County prosecutors claim YFN Lucci violated the conditions of his bond when he visited a recording studio and a local strip club. The particular strip club in question is apparently the same establishment connected to the supposed gang-related shooting.

Prosecutors are also alleging that Lucci’s mandated ankle monitor was altered in some way that caused missing and irregular data on his location. Plus, the government is also accusing the Wish Me Well 3 mixtape maker of violating his bond by failing a drug test. A judge could force Lucci to remain behind bars until his trial begins.

In response, YFN’s lawyer Drew Findling, told TMZ, “This attempt to revoke his bond is without merit and is replete with factual and legal inaccuracies. We will zealously fight this motion as we will with every aspect of this legally flawed prosecution.”

Previously, Findling said, “Our review of the initial evidence made available to us indicates there is no basis for any criminal charges against Rayshawn Bennett. We will continue our own independent investigation on his behalf.” Two other suspects connected to Adams’s death, Ra’Von Boyd and Leroy Pitts, were reportedly apprehended in Miami in January.

YFN Lucci appears to be occupying his time by playing video games such as Call of Duty: Warzone. For the last week, he has been posting multi-hour-long gaming sessions to his YouTube page. The videos feature titles like “Demon time,” “Cant sleep,” and “House arrest flow.”

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Damn’ & SZA’s ‘Ctrl’ Reach Major Milestones On The Album Chart

The minds behind Top Dawg Entertainment built the brand into one of the most prolific record labels of the 21st century. Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith’s company is responsible for producing several classic albums since its founding in 2004.

With a roster that includes acts like Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, SiR, and SZA, TDE is stacked with musical talent that has dominated radio and streaming services. Even 4-years-old projects continued to leave their mark on Billboard.

This week, Damn by Kendrick Lamar charted at #85 on the Billboard 200. The Pulitzer Prize-winning project from 2017 has remained on that tally for four full years (208 weeks). Damn originally debuted at #1 with 603,000 first-week units.

Lamar is no stranger to long runs on the charts. 2012’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City climbed one spot to #57 on the most recent Billboard 200. K. Dot’s magnum opus has spent a record-breaking 441 weeks on the list of the most popular albums in America.

SZA’s Ctrl also reached a major Billboard 200 milestone. Her 2017 debut studio LP currently sits at #54 which marks its 200th entry on the weekly album rankings. Ctrl peaked at #3 upon its release by amassing 60,000 first-week units.

Damn went on to be certified 3x-Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Ctrl presently holds a 2x-Platinum certification. Both Damn and Ctrl were critically acclaimed. Many music publication’s end-of-the-year lists for 2017 had either album placed at #1.

Lamar picked up five Grammy Awards for his Damn era, including Best Rap Album as well as Best Rap Song and Best Music Video for “Humble.” SZA scored five Grammy nominations for Ctrl, but she was controversially shut out by the Recording Academy at the same 2018 ceremony.

Throughout their respective careers, Kendrick Lamar and SZA collaborated on songs together. 2018’s Black Panther: The Album hosted their Top 10 hit “All the Stars.” That single would earn the two Top Dawg Entertainment representatives a Best Original Song nomination at the 91st Academy Awards.

‘The Breakfast Club’ Addresses Potential Threats Over Angela Yee’s Interview With Quando Rondo

Last November, Chicago rapper Dayvon “King Von” Bennett was shot and killed outside Atlanta’s Monaco Hookah Lounge. The gunfire was said to be the result of an altercation between King Von’s crew and Quando Rondo’s crew.

Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks was charged with murder in Fulton County, Georgia. Sources connected to Lul Timm claimed the 22-year-old associate of Quando Rondo was acting in self-defense. Leeks was released from jail on a $100,000 bond.

Quando Rondo (born Tyquian Terrel Bowman) recently spoke about the ordeal with veteran media personality Angela Yee. Part 1 of that Rondo interview was published on April 12 and quickly became a top trending video on YouTube.

Yee promoted her conversation with the Savannah-raised rapper on The Breakfast Club radio show. Her co-hosts, DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God, reacted to the viral Q&A. Envy claimed people contacted him about his safety because The Breakfast Club could now possibly be seen as supporting Quando Rondo and Lil Tumm.

“It’s just a very serious game so just be careful. I got a bunch of texts like, ‘What’s going on? You good in Chicago?’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I guess you released your interview,” Envy told Yee. “Just be very careful.”

Charlamagne responded, “Yeah, but you can’t get mad at the reporter or the journalist or the personality because they did an interview.” Yee then explained her intention was to just give Quando Rondo an opportunity to tell his side of the story.

Part 2 of Angela Yee’s interview with Quando Rondo was published on the Atlantic recording artist’s official YouTube channel on April 13. The “Angels Wings” rhymer has been promoting the Q&A to his 3.2 million Instagram followers.

Was Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” Pulled From Streaming Services?

Montero “Lil Nas X” Hill found himself at the center of controversy after dropping the visuals for his new single “Montero (Call Me by Your Name).” The track skyrocketed to the top of the charts, but it was also met with backlash for the music video’s satanic imagery.

Lil Nas then doubled down on his Lucifer references by releasing redesigned Nike Air Max 97s as “Satan Shoes.” However, he and the New York-based art collective known as MSCHF were forced to recall the sneakers following Nike filing a trademark infringement lawsuit.

Following that legal loss, Lil Nas seems to be dealing with another situation involving the removal of his art from the public square. The 22-year-old Georgia native claims “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” is no longer available on many streaming services.

Some of LNX’s fans shared screenshots and screen recordings seemingly showing that they were unable to listen to the record or watch the video on platforms like Spotify, Apple, and YouTube. In response, Lil Nas promised to upload “Montero” to a pornographic website.

“Since ‘Call Me by Your Name’ is no longer working on many streaming services I will be uploading the audio to Pornhub at 3 pm est,” tweeted Lil Nas X on Tuesday morning. That tweet garnered more than 19,000 retweets and 276,000 likes by Wednesday.

LNX later added, “Not even joking. Everybody stream ‘Call Me By Your Name’ hard today because it may no longer be available tomorrow and there’s nothing I can really do about it. Thanks for all the support tho!” The 7 EP creator’s record label then backed up his claims.

Columbia Records posted, “Thanks for all your comments regarding @LilNasX ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name),’ It’s unfortunately out of our control but we are doing everything possible to keep the song up on streaming services. We will keep you up to date as we hear more. Thank you for understanding.”

Several hours later, Lil Nas X returned to Twitter to write, “Thank you to everyone for using your voices. I’m not placing any blame on the streaming services. Most people have said they are able to go and redownload. Please let me know if you guys still have a problem.”

Bobby Brown Talks Battling Addiction On ‘Red Table Talk’

Bobby Brown is one of the most acclaimed R&B performers of all time. From his stint in New Edition to the commercial success of his solo career, the Boston-bred singer cemented his name among the greats.

Unfortunately, Brown’s personal life has been troubled by drug and alcohol addiction. He also lost his ex-wife, Whitney Houston, and his son, Bobby Brown Jr., to complications from substance abuse.

An upcoming edition of Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk will feature a sitdown interview with Brown and his current wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown. The musician spoke about overcoming addiction on the talk show.

“Alcohol, I started losing bodily function. My body started shutting down because I was drinking that much,” Brown explained to Red Table Talk hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris. “My body just was giving out on me.”

The 52-year-old New Jack Swing pioneer continued, “Even with alcohol, I got to the point where I needed it. I wasn’t getting drunk anymore. I wasn’t getting a little tipsy anymore. I needed it to wake up. I needed it to stop the shakes, to function on a day-to-day basis. For me, it wasn’t recreational.”

In another Red Table Talk clip, Brown discussed the dangers of modern-day synthetic drugs. Etheredge-Brown also joined him on set to share their experience of having to tell their son about the death of Bobby Jr. The full episode of premieres Wednesday, April 14 at 12 pm ET.

J. Prince Invests His Immense Wealth Into A Private Island

Hip-Hop mogul J. Prince has done bought himself a whole tropical island.

The Texas native used some of his reported $50 million to acquire land in the middle of a crystal-clear ocean, and in his typical Rap-A-Lot way, noted how he has made the impossible, possible.

While pushing a wave-runner, on his Instagram he shared what haters told him in the past, “They said it couldn’t be done.”

“They told me I was dreaming too big,” he continued. “They told me I was crazy.”

“They said it was impossible. I done made the impossible possible … Prince Island #1. Loyalty for life.”

The video showed the island off in the distance, not allowing fans to see the landscape of his new investment.  But the move is a power flex for sure. He is not the only influencer from the culture to own an island.

The first billionaire couple of Hip-Hop, The Carters, copped a nice slice of earth in the Florida Keys.  Jigga reportedly dropped a light $20 million on the 12.5-acre island for his wife’s 29th birthday.

Other Hip-Hop adjacent celebs who own their own island are Naomi Campbell, Lenny Kravitz, Eddie Murphy, Leo DiCaprio, Diana Ross (shut up), and Shakira,

Seems like the guy responsible for so much of the south’s best music is in good company.

GoFundMe Launched To Help Black Rob; Diddy Reaching Out To Help

Rapper Black Rob has been left without a permanent home after his latest stint in hospital for a series of long-running health problems.

The “Whoa!” star, who rose to fame in the late 1990s as an artist on Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Bad Boy Records label, drew concern from fans over the weekend, after sharing a tribute message from his hospital bed following the death of hip-hop legend DMX.

In the footage, Rob appeared gaunt and frail, six years after suffering a stroke, although he didn’t share any details about his current health status.

He has since taken to Instagram to assure fans he is OK and has been discharged.

His message read: “I thank you all for your prayers & concern. I wanted to let you know from myself that I’m good. I’m home now…!”

However, in a separate video message which has since surfaced online, Rob admitted his living situation has been far from ideal, and he’s trying to work with a friend to sort out more permanent accommodation as he continues to struggle with pain issues after a series of other strokes in recent years.

“Oh man, I’ve been dealing with this for five years,” he says in the clip. “Four strokes (to date)…

“I don’t know what to tell you man. S### is crazy. This s### is hard. I don’t got no house to live in – except maybe an apartment. Me and my man be trying to get together. I’m telling you, man, this s**t is strange. It’s hard, you know what I’m saying…?

“I need some rest, man. Really, man. I need some rest. My side is killing me. Oh s**t. I don’t want to talk about it no more (sic).”

Now his friend and fellow former Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry has been providing updates on Rob’s situation on his own Instagram page, expressing his gratitude for the outpouring of support for his pal, who he reveals has been undergoing dialysis, a treatment typically used to deal with kidney failure.

“First, thank you for all the support,” he said in a post.

“Also know that it’s not a sympathy case or nothing like that; he just needs that support, that love, that aid to get through during these hard times, cause you can imagine what it’s like going through dialysis and stuff and have to worry about where you’re going to put your head…”

Curry then directed fans wanting to help to a GoFundMe page set up by producer Mike Zombie to raise some funds to help Rob in his time of need, which had collected more than $15,000 towards its $50,000 goal.

Curry also revealed Diddy has been reaching out in an attempt to help the former Bad Boy artist.

Former D12 rapper and Eminem collaborator Denaun Porter, aka Mr. Porter, is among the generous donors, contributing $1,000 to the cause.

Walter Mosley, Writer Of ‘Snowfall,” Crack War During Season 4, The Death Of John Singleton And More

If you’re a fan of television shows that reel you in and have you glued episode to episode, then you are most definitely a fan of “Snowfall.”

Currently knee-deep in their fourth season, the FX series chronicles the life of Franklin Saint (played by Damson Idris), as he navigates the crack epidemic in the 80’s.

Growing up in South Central Los Angeles is a battle in itself, and Franklin Saint paints the picture of someone doing whatever he can do to survive and make it out. While business is booming, it’s hard not to see the downsides of hustling crack cocaine, with addiction and violence at an all-time high.

With Season 4 specifically, there seems to be outright war.

Walter Mosley, the genius who wrote “Snowfall” and executive produced the show alongside the late great John Singleton, is an established author who has written screenplays, poems, articles, and over 60

critically-acclaimed books.

He is a true writer if there ever was one.

AllHipHop: How does it feel to have “Snowfall” take off the way it did? From my peers alone, they say it’s the best show out right now.

Walter Mosley: I love “Snowfall.” It’s a great show, I’ve been working on it for the last 5 years. It’s been a great deal of fun. Really, five years ago, John Singleton called me and says “Walter listen, I’m doing this television show. I need you in the room.” I said “well John, I don’t know how to write television.” He goes, “that’s okay you don’t have to write, just sit in there. Back me up.” [laughs] I said “okay.” I sat around long enough, the head writer said “as long as you’re going to be here, why don’t you write something?” So I started writing for them. It’s fun, and it’s a good show. It’s a show where people want to hear what they believe is going on in the world. Since most things, most places, most events say the opposite, it’s nice for people who either experienced it or who have relatives that experienced it, to hear about that life. That world.

AllHipHop: What’re you most excited for, approaching the Season 4 finale?

Walter Mosley: Oh my gosh, it’s almost over already. It’s fun, I think it’s great. It’s wonderful to have the development of the characters, to see where they’re going, to see where they end up. It’s like regular life, so many shows where people do the same things continually. Even though they’re either drug dealers or fighting drug dealers, their lives are continually changing. Their understanding of the world is continually changing. Most people, that’s how they live. Our lives are changing all the time.

AllHipHop: The “Snowfall” text changes colors and textures as the seasons go on. What’s the significance?

Walter Mosley: I know! It’s funny because there’s so many people. To make a television show, hundreds of people work on it. I look at that, I don’t have anything to do with the text. I’m always really happy when I see them. I just saw Episode 8 and went “wow, that’s so interesting!” That’s the way it is.

AllHipHop: Do you relate to being around during the crack epidemic?

Walter Mosley: You know, that’s what John asked me. When he called me, he said “you were here then?” I said “no I wasn’t John,” I was on the East Coast. In northern New England, I was in the woods. Because I’m 10 years older than he was, so I missed the crack epidemic. What I know is South Central L.A, being born and raised there. I spent a great deal of my time there before going off into the world.

AllHipHop: Did you know a lot about the CIA’s involvement before writing the show?

Walter Mosley: Oh yeah. You know the CIA were involved. I wasn’t there but you knew there’s no way all of this cocaine all of a sudden found its way into South Central. That’s not a mistake, all these weapons finding their way into South Central. That didn’t just happen. That didn’t happen in the Mafia, certainly not going to happen in South Central L.A. It’s so interesting now. There are certain people when I talk about it: “so we’re talking about how the CIA was involved…” Then I go, “CIA?! No, they work for the government. They don’t deal drugs.” [laughs] It’s fun to bring up to people, even if they feel like it never really happened. There’s still a tiny touch of suspicion.

AllHipHop: How was it developing the characters from season to season?

Walter Mosley: The characters, it’s almost from episode to episode. There’s Season 1, 2, 3, 4 to see what’s happening with them, but for us sitting in the writer’s room, every day we’re thinking something new, something different, something more advanced or evolved for characters. Deciding this character’s going to die, and that character’s going to whatever. The hardest thing certainly is Franklin, to understand who he is because his nature is hidden. Who he is, is really an enigma. It’s been a great deal for him dealing with that.

AllHipHop: What’s your favorite thing about Franklin?

Walter Mosley: There’s the actor of course, and my favorite thing about him is that he’s English, which is wonderful. The idea of the character is how lost he is. For me, he’s really a lost character. He’s powerful, he’s intelligent, he’s beautiful, but through all of that, he doesn’t really know how to put things together. In his head he knows, but in the world he doesn’t. In a way he’s kind of helpless, and I love that about him.

AllHipHop: Talk about the growth of Franklin from asking his cousin for advice to being the boss himself.

Walter Mosley: He was always going to be the boss, even when he’s asking advice. Even when he goes to his uncle and his aunt, they help him get into the business, but just like that he’s beyond them. Even the fact he’s thinking about doing it, is beyond them. He’s one of those people, you meet him and say “oh, this is a leader. This is a person who’s going to make things happen, he’s not going to follow events.” From the beginning, from the three creators of the show, were always going to go in that direction so it wasn’t so much of a surprise. The surprise is what he’s willing to do, who he’s willing to go up against, who he’s willing to fight, who he’s willing to kill. Really, it’s a crazy world. You have a part of Los Angeles that’s not really governed by the police, certainly not then. You try to make your own way and all of a sudden, the police don’t like you. You didn’t mind when I was fighting in the street or killing somebody over my girlfriend, but now that I’m making money, you’re mad at me. What’s up with that?

AllHipHop: What’s your favorite part of all Season 4?

Walter Mosley: The fact that the whole season is a war. There’s a war going on here, there’s a war going on in South America. There’s a war in between different cultures and the gangs, it hasn’t been that before. It’s been individual gangsterism, but this is an all-out war and it’s hard to understand who wins. Maybe even nobody wins. You keep on working, you keep on struggling, but it’s a hard life.

AllHipHop: How was it filming after the passing of John Singleton?

Walter Mosley: John’s a really interesting guy. He was very concerned about his community, that part of Los Angeles, his culture, Black people. He wasn’t the guy who needed to own things. He didn’t need to remind people: “I did this, I did that.” He wasn’t really that guy. The writers in the room, he was happy to pass on to us from the very beginning what we’re doing. He said “well listen, what did you write about today Walter?” I said “well you know, I got to Episode 6 or 8.” He goes “so you got some sex and violence in there? I need some of that.” I said “yeah John, I think I got it.” He said “okay, that’s good.” He’d read it and come to me the next day: “look, this is really good. I didn’t really understand this or that.” But it wasn’t like he needed me to somehow have him lead and I’d be in darkness. When he died it was really sad, but this show was going to go on anyway because we knew what we’re doing.

AllHipHop: Favorite episode this season and why?

Walter Mosley: Hmmm, we haven’t seen my favorite episode this season. I can’t tell you about it because it’s a secret. [laughs]

AllHipHop: What’s going to happen Walter?

Walter Mosley: Things are going to happen, that’s all I can you. It is my favorite. It usually is tense, we usually build to a crescendo. It’s really nice.

AllHipHop: How do you feel about Freeway Rick Ross saying you guys stole his story?

Walter Mosley: Listen, I know other people do know who he is and what he did, but it hasn’t been a part of my experience. A lot of people worked in drugs and did a lot of stuff in LA. We’re telling a story. We talked to lots of people, not him, but we talked to lots of people about what their experience was. John was there, John brought a lot of people in that we talked to. Of course, we’ve been dealing all over the place. In the Barrio, talking about the CIA and all that stuff. So I can’t say.

AllHipHop: I’m actually interviewing Amin and Michael, do you have any questions for them that you might think would make for an interesting story?

Walter Mosley: That sounds great, that sounds wonderful. They’re really wonderful actors. They have their characters, so you can ask them about that. You can ask them about anything. One of the interesting things, not Michael but most of the actors were new to big-time performance, and they’ve been great. They’re really interesting, really intelligent people, you’re going to have great fun. I don’t know how you’re going to talk to 2 people in such a short period of time, they have so much to say.

AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let us know?

Walter Mosley: No, I keep everything a secret as you know. The show’s going really great and it’s going to continue. I know it’s going to continue into a fifth season, I’m very happy about trying to talk about Los Angeles then and there.
