Des Moines School Shooting: Teen Charged With Murder, Rapper Who Founded School Injured

An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting at a youth organization that left two teenage students and a teacher injured.

Cops describe the incident as a targeted shooting at a Des Moines, Iowa, non-profit organization educational program designed to keep at-risk youth away from trouble.

According to various reports, the injured teacher has been identified as the Starts Right Here program’s founder, William Holmes. The 49-year-old is also a rapper who left a life of gangs and violence to dedicate his time to helping youth in Des Moines.

Two male teenagers aged 18 years old and 16 years old were killed in the attack.

The alleged shooter was identified as student Preston Walls. He has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Two others remain in custody.

According to police, the shooting was the result of an “ongoing gang dispute.” Walls was on supervised release for a weapons charge. He removed his ankle monitor 16 minutes prior to the shooting before entering the school with a gun. Holmes was attempting to escort him out of the building when Walls allegedly began shooting.

“The incident was definitely targeted. It was not random. There was nothing random about this,” Sgt. Paul Parizek said.

William Holmes, who also goes by the stage name Will Keeps, was in surgery Monday evening. His Starts Right Here program helps at-risk youth in grades 9-12 and is affiliated with the Des Moines school district.

“The school is designed to pick up the slack and help the kids who need help the most,” Parizek said.

Gov. Kim Reynolds, who serves on an advisory board for Starts Right Here, said she was “shocked and saddened to hear about the shooting.”

“I’ve seen first-hand how hard Will Keeps and his staff works to help at-risk kids through this alternative education program,” Reynolds said in a statement. “My heart breaks for them, these kids and their families.”

Beyoncé Under Fire From LGBTQ Advocates Over $24M Show In Dubai

Beyoncé has been heavily criticized by some fans over her decision to perform in Dubai last weekend despite the country’s strict laws against same-sex relationships.

The megastar headlined the private $24 million concert in Dubai to mark the opening of luxury hotel Atlantis The Royal, her first live performance in five years.

However, her performance drew a mixed response. Some fans were thrilled to see Queen Bey return, while others were disappointed with her decision to perform in a country where same-sex sexual activity is punishable by death.

Beyoncé‘s latest album Renaissance was celebrated for “honoring black queer culture” and taking inspiration from LGBT icons. The album was dedicated in part to her late gay Uncle Johnny and members of the LGBTQ community.

Bev Jackson, co-founder of LGB Alliance, said the performance “casts a shadow over her support for lesbians and gay people.”

She told The Telegraph on Sunday: “Beyoncé is a huge icon for many gay people. LGB Alliance is deeply therefore disappointed that Beyoncé has agreed to give a lucrative concert in Dubai, where same-sex sex acts are a criminal offense, potentially punishable by death.”

Some fans on social media also expressed dismay over her choice of venue.

“I love Bey, but you can’t release a statement album like Renaissance, celebrating LGBTQ+ community and then perform in a country that criminalizes and kills LGBTQ+. I love her still but she deserves to hear about it.

https://twitter.com/PurpleeHayzee/status/1617160659719884803?s=20&t=vXLfyR9Xssmk0SLAsGdOHQ

“idk, if I already had $500 million, I don’t think an additional $35 million would be enough money for me to go perform the album I dedicated to my gay uncle in a country where being gay is still punishable by death,” Inside Hook Managing Editor Bonnie Stiernberg tweeted.

However, others, including LGBT activist Ts Madison, suggested fans were singling out Beyoncé, pointing to U.S. states with ani LQBTQ laws.

“So y’all gone be mad At @Beyonce when she Perform on her tour in those US States that have anti LGBTQ laws in place? Or are you gone still get your tickets?” Madison questioned before adding, “The selective outrage is workin my #cozy nerves.”

Making a Name for Himself: Dee Ross’s Rise in the Music Industry

Shreveport, Louisiana native Dee Ross is proving that you don’t have to come from a privileged background to make it in the music industry. The young artist, who began winning local rapping contests for cash at a young age, is now based in Houston and making waves with his unique blend of storytelling and raw emotion.

Growing up in the poverty-stricken and crime-ridden Allendale area, Ross found inspiration in the struggles he faced on a daily basis. He began penning poetry about his experiences, which ultimately led to a passion for music. Despite the distractions of his teenage years, including friends going to jail and even being murdered, Ross never let go of his dream.

Starting off recording songs in a friend’s closet in Shreveport, Ross never stepped foot in a professional studio until he moved to Houston. It was there that he caught the attention of major record labels like “Rap-A-Lot” and began to make a name for himself in the industry.

In 2015, Ross released his first single, “City on My Back,” which gained the city’s attention and motivated him to keep pushing forward. He followed that up with the release of his debut EP, “ForeverReal,” in 2019, and its sequel, “ForeverReal 2,” later that year. 2020 saw the release of “Forever Dangerous,” which included the hit track “I Wonder Why,” which received radio play and reached the top of the charts.

With over 250k streams on Spotify, Ross is quickly becoming a household name. He’s even got his own fashion brand, 4everReal.com, where fans can purchase his gear. When asked about who he’d like to collaborate with in the industry, Ross stated that he’d love to work with Yo Gotti or Lil Boosie, as he feels like his music would fit right in with their style. In addition to his regular performances, he has also been embarking on tours in various cities such as Las Vegas, Atlanta, and several others.

With his laid-back attitude and undeniable talent, Dee Ross is proving that you don’t have to come from a fancy neighborhood to make it big in the music industry. He’s rapping his way out of the hood and into the charts, one verse at a time.

Erykah Badu and her daughter Puma Curry are still trending after sharing photos of their backsides in tight fighting pants over the weekend.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CnvX_NkL_s4/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

The mother-daughter duo received a mixed response, with some praising the 51-year-old iconic singer for her toned figure, while others blasted Erykah for posing alongside her teenage daughter, accusing her of exploiting Puma’s sexuality.

Others wondered how The D.O.C. felt about his 18-year-old daughter posting up with her mama for the gram.

Puma defended the “I got it from my mama pic,” and it appears her father is in agreement.

I posted a pic (not my mom) of me and my mama badu in some cute form fitting pants,” Puma wrote on IG. “I’m an adult. What’s the real issue? Let’s discuss.”

Both of her parents are singing from the same hymn sheet, dropping the identical responses in the comments section. “Well…” Erykah and The D.O.C. wrote in separate replies.

“Accidentally broke the internet … Maybe it need some breaking,” Puma added in her IG Stories over Kendrick Lamar’s “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

After a fan commented: “Erykah Badu’s ass goes viral every year and it just keeps getting better with time,” the “On & On” singer joked that she’ll expose even more next year.

“Next year I’ll show y’all a sonogram X-ray of my colon,” Erykah tweeted. “Dr. Says, and I quote, ‘it’s just the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.'”

Tiffany Haddish Gets Ripped To Shreds For ‘Girls Trip 2’ Appearance

A woman dismissed her child sexual abuse lawsuit against Tiffany Haddish, but the controversy still looms over her career.

Tracy Oliver, the co-writer of Girls Trip, revealed the main cast is coming back for a sequel in an interview with Variety. The cast includes Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish.

The return of Tiffany Haddish did not sit well with many social media users. Twitter was filled with outrage and jokes about her appearing in Girls Trip 2.

Some fans expressed their disinterest in the sequel due to the comedian’s involvement. Others called for her role to be recast.

A Jane Doe sued Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears in 2022, accusing the two of child molestation and grooming. The lawsuit brought attention to an old sketch titled “Through a Pedophile’s Eyes” starring the two comedians. The skit featured Jane Doe’s younger brother, who was 7 years old at the time.

Tiffany Haddish said she regretted appearing in the video. Jane Doe dropped her lawsuit a few weeks after filing it.

“My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years – and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us,” Jane Doe said. “We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.”

But many fans weren’t willing to let the actress off the hook.

Jay-Z & Yo Gotti Drop Lawsuit Against Infamous Mississippi Prison

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti and Team Roc believe a notorious Mississippi prison significantly improved its treatment of inmates.

According to NBC, Team Roc dismissed its federal lawsuit against the Mississippi Department of Corrections over the inhumane conditions at Parchman prison. Jay-Z and Yo Gotti pursued legal action on behalf of more than 200 prisoners in 2020.

“We are pleased with the changes made to date and the improvements in the day-to-day lives of the guys inside,” Team Roc’s attorney Jordan Siev told NBC. “But we’re also cognizant of the fact that Parchman has had a long history of lawsuits, improvements and then backsliding conditions.”

Jay-Z and Yo Gotti raised concerns about the prison’s safety and inability to provide proper medical treatment. Their efforts led to a federal investigation. The Justice Department determined the prison’s conditions violated the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

Parchman inmates received some relief thanks to Jay-Z and Yo Gotti’s awareness campaign. The prison upgraded its facilities enough to convince Team Roc to drop the lawsuit.

“We have and will continue to make diligent efforts to improve the quality of life for all individuals in the custody of the MDOC and provide them with opportunities to successfully return to their communities,” the Mississippi Department of Corrections said. “That is our ongoing commitment.”

Jay-Z, Yo Gotti and Team Roc dismissed their case without prejudice. The distinction allows them to refile the lawsuit if necessary.

NYPD Claims Hip-Hop Police Weren’t Monitoring Drake’s Apollo Audience

The New York City Police Department downplayed its apparent surveillance of Drake’s concert at the Apollo Theater.

Jon Caramanica of the New York Times shared a video of an officer filming fans exiting Drake’s show on Saturday (January 21). A spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information denied the footage was evidence of NYPD surveillance on Monday (January 23).

“The officer depicted in the video is a Community Affairs officer involved with the 28th Precinct’s social media team,” the spokesperson told Consequence. “The officer was taking video for an upcoming Twitter post that will highlight local community events. The video will not be utilized for any other reason.”

Drake performed at the Apollo Theater for the first time in his career on Saturday. The music superstar originally intended to make his Apollo debut in November 2022. He postponed the event following Takeoff’s death.

The OVO rapper rescheduled the concert for December 2022 but delayed it again due to production issues. Drake finally hit the Apollo stage over the weekend, performing two shows at the historic venue in Harlem.

Drake paused his second performance after a fan fell from the Apollo’s balcony on Sunday (January 22). The theater announced there were no major injuries on Monday.

Boston Richey Gets A Deal!

This happened a few days ago, but I guess it is worth a mention. Boston Richey has been the talk of town in Hip-Hop. The rapper, who is from Tallahassee Florida, has created quite a splash in the world of rap. He’s gone viral because he reportedly has paperwork on him. A blogger revealed some stuff on the rapper but it hasn’t stopped him from making moves. In fact, it probably has allowed him to flourish even more. He recently signed a deal with Epic Records, the iconic record label.

What I’m finding is that any attention is good attention in the current world of rap. So, the fact that there may be some paperwork or snitching allegations on Boston Richey, it doesn’t take away from the fact that we are simply talking about him. And then talking about him, people know who he is. Knowing the name of a rapper in 2023 is half the battle. So, I hope that it works out for him because if it does not, there could be another type of problem.

But, I doubt it. The streets are dead dead right now. They are so dead there are numerous snitches in rap and they don’t even have any issues. To see 69 running around with all his money probably encourages dudes to know snitches no longer get stitches in the world of Hip-Hop.

Young Thug Co-Defendant Allegedly Spits In Deputy’s Face & Gets Assaulted

A lawyer representing one of Young Thug’s co-defendants claimed a deputy assaulted her client on Monday (January 23).

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, attorney Angela D’Williams said a Fulton County deputy punched her client Rodalius Ryan in the head. The incident occurred amid the jury selection process in Young Thug’s RICO trial.

“I will be filing a formal complaint against the [sheriff’s office] because they are agitating my client on purpose and when he gets to court agitated, they act like they don’t know what’s going on,” D’Williams declared.

Sheriff Pat Labat accused Ryan of spitting in a deputy’s face, per WSB-TV. Ryan allegedly started spitting in the back of a patrol car while awaiting transport from jail to the courthouse.

Ryan was missing when Young Thug and their YSL co-defendants appeared in court on Monday morning. Ryan’s lawyer said he needed medical attention after the alleged assault.

“He was punched in the head and he did fall on the sidewalk,” D’Williams explained. “I wanted him to be checked for a concussion.”

An incident report said Deputy Kandakai Morris instructed Ryan to stop spitting or clean up the mess. The YSL member allegedly responded, “I ain’t cleaning up s###.”

Ryan spit in Morris’ face then the deputy attempted to remove Young Thug’s co-defendant from the vehicle. Ryan refused to exit the car and tried to make it difficult to grab him.

The deputy pulled Ryan out of the vehicle and put him on the ground. Ryan’s lawyer called for an investigation, suggesting the deputy became physical before giving her client a chance to get out of the car on his own.

“All deputies are supposed to wear body cameras,” D’Williams said. “When the discovery comes out, we’ll see the body cameras and we’ll see what happened.”

Ryan is already serving a life sentence for murder. He faces one count of violating Georgia’s RICO act in the case against Young Thug and other YSL members.

Reactions To Erykah Badu’s Viral Butt Photos Aren’t Entirely Positive

Erykah Badu and her teenage daughter, Puma Curry, became trending Twitter topics over the weekend. Why, you ask? Because…butts. The mother-daughter duo shared multiple photos of their backsides to Instagram, eliciting a waterfall of comments on social media. And they weren’t entirely positive.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CnvX_NkL_s4/?hl=en

Sure, some people were marveling at the sight of Ms. Badu’s 51-year-old butt in all its glory—but then came the Netizens. You know, those people who spend all day on the internet just waiting to talk s###.

“Growing up is realizing Erykah Badu is really a nut and not much of an idol at all,” one person wrote, while another asked, “Wasn’t Erykah Badu slandering young girls showing off their bodies and attracting older men? Her daughter is a teenager (18) and here we are.”

The latter comment refers to a 2016 tweet from Badu that read: “if I had a school I would make sure that the uniform skirt length was a nice knee length… It is fair to everyone.”

Some find to be Badu’s photos hypocritical and accuse her of exploiting her daughter’s sexuality. Others are wondering how Puma’s father, The D.O.C., feels about it. What do you think? Check out some of the comments below.

Doja Cat’s Paris Fashion Week Look Is Blowing Up Twitter, So Is Kylie Jenner’s—But Really, WTF?

Anyone impressed by Doja Cat’s Paris Fashion Week look are probably lying to themselves or so caught up in fandom, they’ve lost all cognitive function. The Grammy Award-winning singer showed up to the Schiaparelli Haute Couture event looking like a bald Flamin’ Hot Cheeto. Covered in more than 30,000 blood-red Swarovski crystals applied over red body paint, Doja Cat waltzed down the red carpet with the confidence of a pageant queen, which is cool in theory. But now she’s an “icon.” She’s a “hero.” She’s bucking beauty standards and throwing caution to the wind.

Hmmm…is that something to applaud instead? I guess. But why, as “normal” people, do we look at something so obviously stupid and still act like it’s the best thing since sliced bread? Comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr. found a clever way to completely rip Doja Cat to shreds under the guise he “wasn’t being misogynistic.”

As he said in the video: “She look like if she was a Fashion Nova mannequin decided to turn into a Blood and start gang banging and whatnot. I get she look like a skinny, tall glass of margaritas. I get that she look like that damn Kool-Aid Man if he decided to lose some weight […] If she want to look like a damn tampon on the heavy days, she could do that!”

At the end of the day, Doja Cat’s outfit did what it was supposed to do—get attention. Same with Kylie Jenner, who truthfully can f### right off for wearing a lion’s head to the same show like she was showing off a trophy kill. Faux or not, it screamed two things: 1. She’s desperate for the spotlight 2. She’s an a######.

Knowing PETA would come for her head, Jenner preemptively posted: “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. thank you @danielroseberry and @schiaparelli for such a special morning. wow i loved wearing this faux art creation constructed by hand using manmade materials. beautiful beautiful.”

By the way, people can’t stop commenting about the “weird energy” between Jenner and Doja Cat in this clip. Maybe it’s the stupid outfits.

Kid Cudi Explains How Virgil Abloh’s Inspired His MOTR Collection

Kid Cudi has unveiled his very first collection of MOTR products.

The “Confused!” rapper dropped the range at a showroom in Paris on Friday as part of Fashion Week, with the unisex line featuring distressed polos, leather jumpsuits, motorcycle jackets, striped sweaters, and deconstructed tutus.

In an interview for Vogue, Kid Cudi explained that the collection would serve as the MOTR fall and winter 2023 offerings.

He also noted that he had wanted to start the brand around eight years ago but became “discouraged” by the process.

However, Kid Cudi revisited the idea in 2021, shortly before previous collaborator Virgil Abloh passed away.

“There is no way I could have designed this collection without thinking about him every single f**king day,” he said of the late Off-White founder. “Every day, it was like, ‘What would Virgil do? What decision would he make and how would he handle his team? What type of vibe would he have in the office?’”

The star continued, “(Virgil) was the ideal designer, he was the template. He was nice, personable, open and friendly with people on his team, helped other people and lifted other people up, gave them opportunities, left the door open behind him.”

First Black Woman To Pen ‘Black Panther’ For Upcoming Release

Marvel Comics is making history again. It has just hired the first Black woman to author a “Black Panther” series under its official franchise. This is a huge milestone for both women and men in the African diaspora.

To put this in perspective, according to Shine my Crown, 30 years ago Black people were not allowed to have anything to do with the storyline construction of the first Black comic book hero that made his debut appearance in the Fantastic Four No. 52 in July 1966.

The infamous Jack Kirby came up with the character, originally naming T’Challa the “Coal Tiger.”

But today, under the name we have all come to love, the Black Panther’s next storyline will be penned by Eve L. Ewing is a writer, scholar, and cultural organizer from Chicago.

Regarding the opportunity, Ewing said, “I’ve actually been thinking about it less in terms of those qualifiers, just because the Wakandan space is an arena where there have been several Black women writers – from Yona Harvey to Roxane Gay to Nnedi Okorafor – and also because I’m so excited that some awesome Black women, Black non-binary writers, and just dope people of color, in general, have come on board at Marvel even since I was first writing ‘Ironheart’ in 2018.”

“Virtually everything in this arc will be about T’Challa, and Wakanda, as you’ve never seen them before,” she added. “New friends, new foes, but all with the goal of doing some worldbuilding in Wakanda and filling out the fabric of the nation in what I believe are some pretty cool new ways.”

What makes Ewing even doper… she is someone’s teacher, serving as an associate professor in the Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity at the University of Chicago, where she teaches courses on education and racial inequality.

The new Black Panther is expected to drop this upcoming June.

Chrisean Rock Fights Two Women As She Tries To Get Blueface In Her Car—All While Pregnant?

Chrisean Rock announced she was pregnant with Blueface’s child over the weekend, prompting the rapper to demand a DNA test. Simultaneously, he claimed they were “officially done” after months of drag-out fights, social media arguments, arrests and sex tape leaks. Oh yeah, and that ridiculous reality show, Blueface & Chrisean: Crazy In Love. But like a bad car accident, people can’t seem to look away. Case in point, TMZ just obtained footage of yet another violent incident involving the couple.

Apparently, Blueface was throwing a birthday party on Saturday (January 21) at his home near Los Angeles’ Chatsworth neighborhood. Witnesses claim Chrisean Rock showed up unannounced and attempted to get Blueface alone. As Blueface tried to make his escape in one of his vehicles, Rock followed him like a lovesick puppy but wound up in a street brawl instead. A woman filming the altercation noted Blueface was already safe in another car when Chrisean Rock started wailing on two other women on the pavement. “She’s trying to kill this girl!” the woman filming says in shock. “She’s on drugs.”

Remember, this is just two days after Chrisean Rock claimed she was pregnant and not long after Blueface supposedly broke up with her. If she’s indeed carrying a child, wouldn’t she be much more careful with the precious cargo? Or was the pregnancy announcement just a ploy to get Blueface back?

Whatever the case, Blueface and Chrisean Rock’s messy relationship obviously isn’t getting any better. Rock’s intense passion for the “Thotiana” rapper consistently has her acting out and he doesn’t appear to mind, at least not that much. If he did, he would have left a long time ago, right?

The fallout from their toxic relationship is beginning to have very real life consequences for Blueface. As he tweeted on Sunday (January 22): “They tryna take my 2nd house because the police has labeled it as a ‘nuisance’ to the area due to…to many 911 calls for Robbery shootings fights ETC.”

Blueface also took aim at Akademiks, but that’s another story. We’ll leave you with this: Chrisean Rock and her on-again, off-again boyfriend need to get it together if there’s a baby on board. If not, maybe it’s time to go their separate ways and try to heal. Either way, it’s going to be a long road.

DJ Red Alert Accepts Apology From UHHM Founder

Hip-Hop is turning 50 years old and old wounds of the culture, that have formed scabs over the years, are being pulled off.  With that, real healing is being had as leaders step up and apologize for “past indiscretions.”

An example of this is the recent public apology of the Universal Hip Hop Museum Founder Rocky Bucano to the iconic DJ Red Alert.

Bucano, who got his start in the Bronx as a teenage DJ and Co-president of Strong City Records, took to social media from the [R]evolution of Hip Hop exhibition, a pop-up for the museum, to give his apology to Uncle Red in front of a small group— but shared with thousands on Instagram and Facebook.

He said in the video he wanted to rectify some of the “differences” they’ve had from childhood in an effort to “move … forward.”

“So, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop culture, my personal reflections take place in the beginning especially; where it all grew from the community,” he started. “Today, I want to personally issue a public apology to one of Hip-Hop’s cultural icons, Harlem’s own, DJ Red Alert.”

Bucano continued, “Coming up during the rise of the coach and the creation of a new genre of music was a time for being brash and bold, creating and staking your claim in Hip-Hop.”

The leader acknowledged that he “may have been indifferent and thoughtless at times,” sparking a beef between the Violator OG and himself.

“I’m accepting my own youthful failures because it was never my intent to be malicious or unkind,” he declared.

Adding, “Sometimes, it takes 50 years to grow enough to realize and understand that you may have hurt or offended someone from your past.”

DJ Red Alert, one of the first DJs on the radio to spin Hip-Hop, accepted the apology and agreed to sit down in private to talk, ending their almost 50-year beef.

“Many of times, it could be referring [to] family, business associates, even down the culture] that there … be some flaws … situations and … some differences, but that don’t mean that they cannot be mended.”

He said the 50th anniversary of the culture is important to “continue to build on,” and that the two “wanted to show that if we can make amends,” this also can be true for “everybody else” in “whatever situations” they may be dealing with.

This is what the culture needs to see! Salute to real men in the culture.
