Oakland rapper Philthy Rich is looking at some jail time now that he has pleaded guilty to attempting to illegally purchase firearms.
The case against Philthy Rich began in July 2021 when he was charged with conspiracy to make false statements in the acquisition of a firearm and one count of making a false statement in the purchase of a firearm.
The accusations stem from allegations that he paid co-defendant Jasmine Garcia to act as a straw purchaser to buy guns in her name and transfer them to him in violation of the law.
Garcia has pleaded guilty to her role in the scheme. She is expected to receive a “time served” sentence if she doesn’t break any laws before sentencing.

LL Cool J is making his fundamental move forward back into the forefront of hip-hop. The self-proclaimed G.O.A.T. is rightfully flying very high. He has an empire that he’s built with Rock The Bells and he is definitely one of the best to ever do it. Now, he is working on reestablishing himself as an artist in the current day. It does not hurt Tha we are already in a classic Hip-Hop-inclined era.
But what is he working on?
That’s where things get extremely interesting. LL is reportedly working on a new project that includes a myriad of acts. LL is preparing to drop his first album in 10 years and he has some heavy hitters joining him. I’m talking about Eminem, Nas, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Saweetie and MORE! On top of that, the legend in leather said the album is ENTIRELY produced by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest fame!
This is about to be crazy! I don’t know exactly what further to say about this other than I really hope it’s a watershed moment for the goat of rap, because he can be the George Foreman of hip-hop! Not to say that he’s overweight, or anything like that, but he certainly is one of the elder statesman of the culture. He can come back and show that it can be done. I wonder what the album title will be?
Salt-N-Pepa member Cheryl “Salt” James revealed she was asked to get an abortion when she got pregnant during the group’s heyday.
James shared her story while discussing motherhood and the music industry in an interview with Tamron Hall. Salt did not name the person who wanted her to get an abortion.
“I was actually—I don’t think I’ve ever said this out loud,” she said. “I was actually asked to have an abortion, I won’t say by who. But to your point, yeah, you just have to know that it’s something that you’re capable of handling if you want a kid and you want to have a career. And it’s definitely harder.”
Salt was glad she ignored the unidentified person’s request. She emphasized how much she loved being a mom in her conversation with Hall.
“Having my daughter, besides finding Jesus, is the best thing that I’ve ever experienced, my kids,” she said. “Like, I needed that little baby in my life. She kept me company on the road.”
Salt-N-Pepa will be part of the rotating cast involved in LL Cool J’s The F.O.R.C.E. Live Tour, which is scheduled to begin in June. The tour features a star-studded lineup of Hip-Hop legends, including Queen Latifah and Rakim.

AllHipHop: How does where you’re from influence your music?
10kdunkin: It influences my music a lot because it made me who I am: the good the bad the ugly. It all makes the music what it is today
AllHipHop: What do you love most about your fanbase?
10kdunkin: I love how they are so engaged and supportive of what I’m doing. The fans I have feel more like friends than just some fans. I feel close with them, they go through a lot of the same things I do. If they haven’t yet, when they listen to my music they feel me.

AllHipHop: Who do you think should listen to “On Da Low”?
10kdunkin: Anybody who likes good music that’s original and real. It doesn’t sound like anybody else
AllHipHop: This song feels very flirty and fun for the summertime. What was the inspiration behind the video?
10kdunkin: I could see why you would say that, but most of the video idea was Keaton (Jones). I really just sent the song and let him do his thing, and he really did.
AllHipHop: What can you tell us about your upcoming album?
10kdunkin: Its original, it’s me. It’s something new that will change the game forever. It’s smooth, but also hard and gritty at the same time. I don’t think something like this has ever been done. My sound can resonate with a lot of different genres and that’s going to be huge in the future. You’ll never know who I might be seen working with.

10kdunkin: Yeah. TyDolla$ign, Atl Smook, Lawsy, HBK Jachi ,and a couple more that will be a surprise when the tape drops.
AllHipHop: In the spirit of “On Da Low”… have you ever flirted with a fan in real life?
10kdunkin: I ain’t ever have to choose, I let ’em choose me.
A man claiming to be Jay-Z’s son continued the fight to force Hov to take a paternity test.
According to the Daily Mail, Rymir Satterthwaite filed a motion to unseal court documents in his case against Jay-Z. More than a decade ago, Satterthwaite and his godmother Lillie Coley pursued legal action to prove he is Hov’s illegitimate son.
The New Jersey Supreme Court denied Satterthwaite’s motion, noting it did not have jurisdiction to grant his request. He refiled the motion in the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court.
“This is not going to be over until justice is served,” Satterthwaite said. “I just want to live my life and, when it is all said and done, I hope that Jay-Z would want to be a part of my life if that is God’s will.”
He added, “I won’t stop fighting for this until I win. And I will win because the law is on our side.”
Satterthwaite accused Jay-Z of manipulating the legal system to avoid a paternity test. Satterthwaite’s mother Wanda believed Hov was the real father of her child. She issued a statement about her son’s case before she passed away in 2016.
“I want the world to know that I support my son in his paternity suit with Shawn Corey Carter,” she said in a video published by Radar Online. “I stand by my allegations regarding this man.”
Satterthwaite suffered several legal defeats in his effort to prove he is Jay-Z’s son. Hov’s attorneys expected the New Jersey Superior Court to dismiss Satterthwaite’s latest motion.
“The allegations have been previously reviewed thoroughly by the courts and have been refuted,” a lawyer for Jay-Z told the Daily Mail. “I am sure that will be the outcome of whatever filings Mr. Satterthwaite may be currently considering.”
Satterthwaite insisted he wasn’t seeking compensation from Jay-Z. The man said he only wanted to be acknowledged as Hov’s son.

Tory Lanez must wait another day to learn if he will be granted a new trial.
Lawyers representing Tory Lanez argued his case in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday (May 8). Judge David Herriford announced he will rule on the motion for a new trial on Tuesday morning (May 9).
According to Los Angeles Times reporter James Queally, Tory Lanez begged the judge to not “ruin” his life. The Canadian rapper/singer returned to jail after Monday’s hearing.
Last December, Tory Lanez was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. He was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
The polarizing artist faces up to 22 years and eight months in prison. He maintains his innocence.
Earlier this year, Tory Lanez filed a motion for a new trial. He claimed he was “robbed and deprived of a fair trial” in an open letter to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon.
“I’ve watched 2 district attorneys … unlawfully misuse their authority to hide and suppress any and all exculpatory evidence that exonerates me or furthers my innocence,” he wrote.
He has remained in custody since his December 2022 conviction.
California rapper Young Lo aka EverybodyKnowsLo, whose real name is Lowell Grissom, was murdered Sunday morning outside of a South Beach nightclub during a party.
Around 4:00 a.m., CBS News Miami said the fatal shootout claimed the life of the popular rapper, known to kick it with Hitmaka and Ray J. Two other women were injured during the melee and were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. They are expected to recover from the shooting.
SNBC 13 said all of the shooting victims were taken to the hospital. Lo was the only one not to survive.
The Gala nightclub released a statement saying in part, “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the isolated and targeted incident that occurred last night at our upscale establishment.”
Friends also believe that the rapper was a target in the shooting.
Lo was a recent Florida transplant and leaves a young son to mourn. No suspect has been arrested or identified in the shooting or connected to a motive.
Lo has performed or collaborated with Rich The Kid, Murda Beatz, Young Blacc, Tyga and even Chris Brown.
Breezy took to his social media and posted in his story a tribute to his friend saying, “Love you bro, Rest up My Brother” with a broken heart emoji.
Young Lo and Brown were both named in a sexual assault lawsuit in 2018, according to NPR.
AllHipHop.com sends our deepest sympathies to his family during this time of bereavement.
Over the weekend, ex-marine, Daniel Penny, 24, released a statement about why he placed Jordan Neely, a homeless Michael Jackson impersonator, in a fatal chokehold while riding on a New York subway car. Now, the family of the street performer has responded with their own remarks regarding Penny’s account of the May 1 murder of the 30-year-old.
They also called for New York City’s mayor, Eric Adams to give them a call.
AllHipHop.com obtained the press release from the law firm Mills & Edwards lambasting Penny’s lawyers’ characterization of the incident and their client’s actions.
They dismissed the comments as a “non-apology” and are demanding justice for their loved one who was “killed” at the hands of the military man.
While pointing at Penny’s statements, lawyers Donte Mills and Lennon Edwards wrote on behalf of Jordan’s family, “Daniel Penny’s press release is not an apology nor an expression of regret. It is a character assassination and a clear example of why he believed he was entitled to take Jordan’s life.”
Adding, “In the first paragraph he talks about how ‘good’ he is, and the next paragraph he talks about how ‘bad’ Jordan was in an effort to convince us Jordan’s life was ‘worthless.’ The truth is, he knew nothing about Jordan’s history when he intentionally wrapped his arms around Jordan’s neck and squeezed and kept squeezing.”
“In the last paragraph, Daniel Penny suggests that the general public has shown ‘indifference’ for people like Jordan, but that term is more appropriately used to describe himself,” they continued. “It is clear he is the one who acted with indifference, both at the time he killed Jordan and now in his first public message. He never attempted to help him at all. In short, his actions on the train, and now his words, show why he needs to be in prison.”
The family wants Adams and the world to know, Jordan’s life mattered just as much as any other person in the city— blasting anyone who assisted in the young man’s death or not speaking out against it.
According to NY1, Penny’s lawyers released a comment after the incident, one ruled a homicide by the city’s medical examiner.
While saying they sending their condolences to Neely’s family, they also noted the young man had a “documented history of violent and erratic behavior.”
He believed, though he did not know about said behavior, he was acting to protect other passengers on the subway.
It said in part, “Daniel never intended to harm Mr. Neely and could not have foreseen his untimely death. For too long, those suffering from mental illness have been treated with indifference. We hope that out of this awful tragedy will come a new commitment by our elected officials to address the mental health crisis on our streets and subways.”
They also wrote, “When Mr. Neely began aggressively threatening Daniel Penny and the other passengers, Daniel, with the help of others, acted to protect themselves, until help arrived.”
Little has been released about Penny’s background, but records show he served for four years in the military from 2017 to 2021.
Penny has not been charged with the homicide, according to the New York Times. There is no word on if there will be any charges for the crime against the ex-marine for killing the homeless man.
Instagram users got a peek into the friendship between Lil Yachty and Tyler, The Creator. On Sunday, Yachty shared photographs and videos featuring the Call Me If You Get Lost album creator.
“T @ My House 🫂,” read the caption for Lil Yachty’s Instagram post. Yachty and Tyler appeared together in the Quality Control/Motown recording artist’s first picture in the Instagram carousel.
Additionally, Lil Yachty uploaded a clip of Tyler, The Creator playing with a Yachty action figure. Tyler can be seen pulling down the toy’s pants and showing off its plastic buttocks.
“Damn, you got ass, n####. Boat gotta little booty on him, a little U-Haul truck,” joked Tyler, The Creator in the Instagram video as Lil Yachty laughs off-camera.
Yachty also publicized a selfie of himself and Tyler posing in front of a body of water. Both men stuck out their tongues as they took the picture. Plus, Tyler put up his middle finger.
Lil Yachty dropped the Psychedelic Rock album Let’s Start Here in January. The 14-track studio LP debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart by collecting 36,000 first-week units.
“I would love to do a project with Tyler [The Creator],” stated Yachty in a recent interview. “He’s the reason I made this album. He’s the one who told me to do it, just go for it.”
Lil Yachty also added, “He’s so confident and I have so much respect for him because he takes me seriously, and he always has.” The two rhymers, along with Tierra Whack and A$AP Rocky, collaborated for “T.D” off 2020’s Lil Boat 3.
After Bronx-raised entertainer Cardi B reached the top of the Billboard charts in 2017, numerous other female rappers have ascended to a mainstream level. Fellow Bronx native Ice Spice is one of the latest artists to break out as a star.
Ice Spice became the topic of conversation recently after the “Munch (Feelin’ U)” performer appeared at the Met Gala. Some critics claimed colorism was the reason for Spice’s promotion to the upper echelon of the entertainment industry so quickly.
Additionally, the New Rory & Mal podcast sparked a conversation about the comparison between the rise of Cardi B and the rise of Ice Spice. Cardi decided to address the “industry plant” allegations during an Instagram Live session.
“When it comes to other female rappers’ success that’s happening now, some females are going to come up faster than others. A lot of people will think, ‘That’s because their labels are putting money behind them,'” stated Cardi B.
The Grammy winner continued, “The labels are putting money behind the girls who people are listening to. So if you feel like somebody is coming really fast, that’s because y’all [are] listening to them. The labels only go with who’s getting the most listens.”
Cardi also offered, “You can’t blame no machine for that. You can’t blame nothing for that. Labels are going to put money on artists that people are listening to. And you can’t hate on that. You can’t hate on nobody else’s come up.”
Last year, Cardi B referenced “Munch” on GloRilla’s national hit “Tomorrow 2” which peaked in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10. In January, Ice Spice expressed gratitude that Cardi mentioned her song on “Tomorrow 2.”
Ice Spice recently teamed up with Nicki Minaj for the “Princess Diana” collaboration. The RiotUSA-produced single peaked in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
There has been a longstanding feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. The bitter rivalry included a physical confrontation at a 2018 New York Fashion Week afterparty.
Both Cardi B and Ice Spice will head back to New York for Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2023 concert on June 4. Elmont’s UBS Arena will host a lineup of acts that also features female rappers GloRilla, Coi Leray, and Lola Brooke. Hot 97 tapped Cardi as the headliner for the event.
Chicago-bred rapper Lil Wop has leaned heavily into promoting his sexual content on OnlyFans. A new photo on his Instagram page has generated a lot of conversation.
Over the weekend, Wop uploaded a picture to Instagram that appears to be the Halloween project creator dressed in lingerie. The caption reads, “I’ll be a bad b#### for you if [you’re] the right one. 🥰 Subscribe To My OF 😝.”
Lil Wop’s Instagram post quickly spread across the internet as social media users weighed in on the image. Some of his fans showed support for his openness while other people criticized Wop for sharing the photograph.
“Don’t get me wrong. I ain’t out here sucking no d### or getting f##### in the ass or no s### like that, but I’ll make a n#### my b####,” said Lil Wop in a 2022 interview.
Wop added, “I’m masculine, so I’m a m############ king. I come from kings, royalty. I like power.” He also stated, “I ain’t soft, sweet, or none of that s###. I just wanted to put that out to the world. So everybody’s welcome to come f### with me.”
There appears to be a Hip Hop podcast conflict brewing. The Joe Budden Podcast‘s Joe Budden and MillionDollaz Worth of Game‘s Gillie Da King got into a war of words over the weekend.
The recent online battle between Joe Budden and Gillie Da King apparently began after Budden took a subliminal shot at Gillie on “The Gayes Lost” episode of his bi-weekly show.
“I don’t want to hear none of the money talk from you n#####. Your headboard is covering a very small window in your primary bedroom,” said Budden. It turns out those comments were a subtle shot at Gillie Da King.
“After the washed-up rap career, in and out all the rehabs, all the beating on bit$hes, now [you] wanna podcast beef, 😂😂😂 I’ll beef when [you] start getting [some] ad money 💀 #GotEm,” tweeted Gillie on Sunday.
Joe Budden fired back at Gillie Da King from his own Twitter account. He wrote, “You selling ass out here for cheap… watch your mouth when you speak to or of me. 😭.”
Gillie Da King & Joe Budden Took Their Beef To Instagram Too
The back-and-forth between the two rappers-turned-podcasters did not just take place on Twitter. Both Joe Budden and Gillie Da King also clashed in the comments section of DJ Akademiks’s Instagram page.
“When dat money slow up [you] wanna Podcast Beef 🤦🏾♂️😂😂,” posted Gillie Da King. Budden responded, “@gilliedaking I ain’t like your lil ad speech… I took that personally 😭😭.”
This weekend’s internet grudge involving Joe Budden and Gillie Da King kicked off after Budden recently had issues with It Is What It Is podcast host Cam’ron. The Dipset leader referred to Budden as “Hoe Buddons” in an Instagram post.
Cam’ron’s IG diss was a response to a conversation between Drink Champs host N.O.R.E. and Joe Budden on an episode of the JBP. Budden shot back at Cam by saying the “Oh Boy” hitmaker was “too sensitive.”
After the washed Up Rap career in and out all the rehabs all the beating on Bit$hes Now u Wanna Podcast Beef 😂😂😂 I’ll beef when u start getting sum Ad money 💀 #GotEm
R&B singer Chris Brown has been in the news a lot over the last several days. One of those negative headlines covered a rumored altercation backstage at this past weekend’s Lovers & Friends Festival.
According toTMZ, footage of the alleged incident involving Chris Brown at the Las Vegas event began circulating online. However, Brown pushed back on the idea he instigated the situation.
Brown was reportedly upset at fellow R&B musician Teyana Taylor. Video from inside Skate Rock City on the night shows the RCA recording artist seemingly yelling “shut the f### up” at Taylor.
Both Usher and Chris Brown performed their respective sets at Lovers & Friends. The star-studded lineup also featured Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, and more music acts.
Like Fat Joe, Rock used to run the street and is considered a street legend in the Boogie Down.
He said at 18 years old, he took A 10 to 20-year sentence for “not ratting” on a friend in a jam. While in prison, he allegedly got stabbed in the eye for defending Fat Joe’s honor over his beef with 50 Cent years ago, and added, he also, held down Tupac Shakur while he was in prison.
Recently, he was on Instagram dissing Fat Joe, saying the “Lean Back” rapper was boasting about being in the car with John Gotti and Sammy the Bull.
He also posted that Fat Joe thought he was going to kill him. He said, “FAT JOE WAS MAD SHOOK OF CHARLIE ROCK LD… I WOULD NOT HURT LITTLE JOEY… HOW CAN U HURT UR SON…”

Donald Glover hopes Tyler Perry “understands” his parody of him in the TV show Atlanta.
In one episode in the show’s fourth season, Glover donned heavy prosthetic makeup to play a Black studio head named Kirkwood Chocolate, who is known for lowbrow but popular films.
Donald Glover revealed in a cover interview with GQ that he gave Perry a heads-up about the spoof but hasn’t heard from him since the episode aired in October 2022.
“I told him I was gonna do it,” he shared. “I don’t know how he took it. I texted him once, I think, for something… I didn’t hear back. That’s the thing about being Black. It becomes so personal so fast. I’m not s####### on you.”
The “Community” actor hopes Perry doesn’t see the gag as a personal attack because it was not intended that way.
“If somebody did that about me, I’d be like, that’s good. He has a right to not feel that way,” he added. “I hope (he) understands. I still want to shoot at his studio someday.”
When asked how he can commit to a joke that might offend someone, Glover explained, “Because I’m not a politician. I’m an artist, and I’m good. I’m a good artist. That’s the difference. If I didn’t think I was a good artist, then I’d be like, Maybe I shouldn’t do this. But this is nuanced and funny.”
The fourth and final season of Atlanta ended in November.
Rihanna is feeling “good” and “energetic” during her second pregnancy.
The Barbadian singer walked the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala staged at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City alongside her partner A$AP Rocky.
Showcasing her growing baby bump in an extravagant all-white Valentino ensemble, Rhianna offered fans an update on her pregnancy.
“It’s so different from the first one,” she remarked to the outlet. “Just everything! No cravings, tons of nausea, everything’s different.”
The Fenty Beauty founder then added, “I’m enjoying it! I feel good…I feel energetic.”
When the reporter noted that her first-born son seems “energetic” himself, Rihanna gushed over the 11-month-old.
“I’m in love!” she exclaimed of the tot, whose name remains unknown. “I’m obsessed and I don’t even feel guilty about it.”
Rihanna revealed she was expecting baby number two with Rocky during her performance at the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in February.
