DMX’s first posthumous album, Exodus, is set to hit DSPs this Friday, May 28. The project will contain guest appearances by some of the biggest names in Hip Hop and R&B.
Rap icons Jay-Z and Nas are reuniting again on “Bath Salts.” Moneybagg Yo is on a track titled “Money Money Money.” The Griselda crew contributed to “Hood Blues.” Usher provided vocals for “Letter to My Son (Call Your Father).”
Additionally, Exodus will feature The Lox, Lil Wayne, Alicia Keys, Bono, Mr. Porter, Snoop Dogg, and more. DMX’s longtime collaborator Swizz Beatz is a credited performer on “That’s My Dog” and “Dog’s Out.” Swizz also executive produced the LP.
Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe caught up with Swizz Beatz to talk about Exodus. The New York City-born super-producer laid out how he convinced DMX to add more artists to the project before the Yonkers-raised emcee passed in April.
Swizz Beatz told Lowe:
The only tribute was the Moneybagg track. Everything else X was present and happy for. We had the conversation, and I said, “Yo, I know you don’t like a lot of features, but I think it’s time that people should see that other people love you as well and you’re respected by serious, serious artists. Although you’re humble, although you don’t really have features, let’s have fun with it, come out the gate. Then the next album, we can get back to how you want to do it, but let’s have some fun. Let’s give them something they can’t expect. They’re not expecting you and Bono. They’re not expecting you and Alicia. They’re not expecting you and Griselda. They’re not expecting you, Jay, and Nas on one track. You know what I’m saying? They never expected an Usher with letter to my son, call your father, you know?” He just loved the idea of it, but he was a little sneaky about it because, in his mind, he loved that he was able to work with them. On the other hand, he figured out it was less work for him. He really loved it. He was like, “Oh, I only got to do three verses? Okay, tell Lil Wayne let’s go.” So that was the good, the good part, man.
According to Swizz Beatz, the positive reaction to the DMX/Snoop Dogg Verzuz battle helped inspire X to move forward with his latest body of work. Over 2 million total viewers watched the legendary emcee run through some of his greatest hits like “Get At Me Dog,” “X Gon’ Give It to Ya,” “Slippin’,” and “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem.”
Swizz stated:
I just knew he was ready. I knew that he started working on something, and it wasn’t coming out the way he did. Then, he basically was like, yo, let’s get Batman and Robin back on again. Once he started that, he was clear. He was sober as well. Then he did Verzuz, and then when he did Verzuz and went to the next level because he sees the people still had love for him. A lot of artists don’t really know how the people feel about them. People can see you in the street, but music wise and how is that appreciation. Yeah. You want to take a picture, but do you really mess with me? Then when he did Verzuz, all his songs go to number one. He seen everything chart again. I showed him all of it. Then he was just pumped up. He was like the only thing I don’t like about my Verzuz is I wasn’t able to do something new.
Last year, Walker was criticized for slamming mothers that feed their babies infant formula. The LRVN vocalist wrote on her @galactawhore Instagram account, “Y’all weird for even giving babies that processed government s###. Throw some real fruits/veggies in a blender and give it to them.”
Walker also added, “A pear [is] 43 cent, Similac is 32 to 36 dollars. I don’t understand. A bowl of fruit for the child would still cost less than formula for the week. To feed the child daily $1.67, Meal 1 pear 43 [cents], Meal 2 apple 74 [cents], Meal 3 peas 50 [cents], $11.69 weekly. And they drink water so it’s cheaper. $23.38 for 2 weeks.”
Now that the 25-year-old performer has a child of her own, she is facing criticism over her parenting skills. Summer Walker uploaded an image of her newborn to her main Instagram page, and some people expressed concern over the baby’s size.
“Chile I’m praying for Summer Walker and her baby [because] WTF is this s###?????” tweeted one person. Someone else wrote, “This whole Summer Walker baby situation is not even funny. Is this not possible negligence? Why are y’all laughing 😐.”
Another person posted, “Summer Walker said you can feed a family of 4 for a week with a pack of Kool-Aid & some breadsticks & y’all thought it was funny. Now y’all are shocked she’s feeding her newborn hemp seed & saying breast milk is bad for babies.”
Some social media users even suggested local child protective services need to check on the baby. Summer Walker got wind of the conversation taking place online and responded to the backlash on her @galactawhore page.
The “Come Thru” songstress posted:
yall: POST THE BABY B#### WE WANNA SEE! also y’all: roasting a baby [whose] face you can’t even see. lol make it make sense. In conclusion [m############] is weird and I will never post my baby so stop asking.
summer walker standing outside in the hood with her bra and panties on holding that baby like it’s a grocery bag is not something i was expecting to see today

“Good Days” became SZA’s highest-charting solo single on the Hot 100 when it peaked at #9 in February. After spending 20 weeks on the chart, the track is no longer among the Top 100 songs in the country.
A fan page reported that “Good Days” has gone recurrent, meaning it was removed from the Hot 100 after charting for 20 weeks and falling below #50. The vocalist did not appear to be happy about the situation.
SZA left a critical comment under the @__.sza.___ account’s Instagram post. The 31-year-old New Jersey native wrote, “I really hate my label. So much.”
It is not clear if SZA’s supposed “hate” was directed at Top Dawg Entertainment or RCA Records. However, she has publicly expressed frustration with TDE in the past.
In 2016, SZA stated she was quitting Top Dawg because her debut LP was not out yet. The singer-songwriter specifically named TDE co-president Terrence “Punch” Henderson in her tweet.
The critically-acclaimed Ctrl was eventually released in 2017 via TDE/RCA. Ctrl went on to earn 2x-Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
While SZA put some of the blame on TDE for the delay of Ctrl, in a 2017 interview with The Guardian she admitted someone in a position of power apparently forced her to drop the project.
“They just took my hard drive from me. That was all. I just kept f###### everything up. I just kept moving s### around. I was choosing from 150, 200 songs, so I’m just like, who knows what’s good any more?” said SZA at the time.
When asked if the final version of Ctrl was the one she would have put out, SZA responded, “No, absolutely not. Any longer and I probably wouldn’t… I’m also driving myself f###### crazy, so I don’t know. Give me another month and it would have been something completely different.”
“Good Days” may have fallen off the most recent Hot 100 chart, but SZA still holds a position in the Top 10 of the Billboard rankings. Her “Kiss Me More” duet with fellow RCA signee Doja Cat currently sits at #10.
It has been close to 25 years since the unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace rocked the Hip Hop world.
Still, conversations about their deaths remain a hot topic to discuss, as investigative documentaries and fact-based dramas attempt to break down the connections to dirty cops, local gangs, and the entertainment industry.
Filmmaker Nick Broomfield, who twenty years ago gave the world the documentary “Biggie & Tupac,” will release a new feature “Last Man Standing: Suge Knight and the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace” on Wednesday, June 30 at a special one night only World Premiere.
The film has testimony from people who were afraid to talk in the late 90s and early 2000s about the cases because Suge was still out in the world terrorizing people.
Nick Broomfield enlisted Richard “RJ” Bond, the director of “Tupac Assassination,” as the Executive Producer of the film.
“Nick and I have had a really great time both looking at new information out there,” stated RJ Bond.
“So many people have been more willing to talk since [Suge] Knight’s incarceration for killing Terry Carter,” he continued. “But it was also fascinating for me to look at footage Nick shot 20 years ago, which have taken on an entirely new meaning today- especially when it may not have resonated back then when we did not know as much.”
Broomfield also shared his motivation for continuing to document these two cold cases, “After finishing ‘Biggie & Tupac’ in 2002 I became increasingly troubled by the treatment of LAPD detective Russell Poole who had come up with evidence that LAPD officers were involved in the hit on Biggie Smalls.”
“Russell was vilified by the LAPD and over the years I watched as his health and wellbeing declined. In August 2015 Russell died of a massive heart attack during a meeting at the LA Sheriff’s headquarters where he was still arguing his theory of the Biggie Smalls murder,” the award-winning documentarian added. “It was a tragic end that Russell didn’t deserve, however, a few years later people started talking more freely after Suge Knight (whom Russell accused of commissioning the hit) was sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2018.”
The film starred Johnny Depp as Poole. This film is also produced by the Christopher Wallace Estate and approved by the Shakur estate.
Broomfield also said, “I believed in Russell and I believed in his theory, and people who had never spoken before, who didn’t know Russell Poole, came forward with new evidence never heard before that supports his allegations that LAPD officers were involved.”
With all of this attention, the hope is that the Shakur Wallace estate achieves justice.
At the June 30th World Premiere “one night only nationwide pre-recorded Q&A with Director Nick Broomfield hosted by Trevor Nelson.
The general release for “Last Man Standing: Suge Knight and the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace” takes place on July 2nd in theaters and later on streaming services.
A brand new track from DMX’s upcoming posthumous album Exodus just hit the net, and fans are loving it.
Griselda’s own Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher and Conway The Machine appear on the song “Hood Blues” from the upcoming album, which is due in stores on May 28th.
“We had the conversation, and I told him, I said, yo, I know you don’t like a lot of features, but I think it’s time that people should see that other people love you as well and you’re respected by serious, serious artists,” Swizz Beatz said during an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show. “Although you’re humble, although you don’t really have features, let’s have fun with it, come out the gate. Then the next album, we can get back to how you want to do it, but let’s have some fun. Let’s give them something they can’t expect.”
“He just loved the idea of it, but he was a little sneaky about it because in his mind, he loved that those people was, he was able to work with them,” Swizz Beatz continued. “On the other hand, he figured out it was less work for him. He really loved it. He was like, oh, I only got to do three verses? Okay, tell Lil’ Wayne let’s go. So that was the good, the good part, man.”
Exodus is filled with guest appearances from the biggest artist, including Nas, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Lox, Moneybagg Yo and Swizz’ wife Alicia Keys.
Yesterday, Swizz dropped a trailer celebrating DMX, as well as the impending release of Exodus.
International superstar Akon has recovered his stolen luxury vehicle.
According to Forest Park police, the “Lonely” rapper’s SUV truck was found at a Buckhead gas station after a lowlife jacked it on Monday night.
The hitmaker, whose real name is Aliaume Thiam, left the front of his Range Rover unattended at the QuikTrip on Sidney Marcus Boulevard while he went to pump gas.
Apparently, he was too slow, as some wolves crept in and zipped off with it. He must have forgotten he was in “Atlunna.”
A report of Akon’s account of the crime was released by the local authorities.
It read, “He stated that when his tank was almost full he noticed his white Range Rover … pulling off while he was still pumping his gas.”
They were clearly plotting on him and caught him slipping. The police report noted that Akon was being followed by a dark-colored sedan when he arrived at the gas station at 11:37 pm.
“Shortly after, you can see the suspect get out of the passenger seat of what looks to be a black, four-door BMW sedan, get into the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle and drive off with the black BMW following right behind.”
The convenience store’s surveillance camera caught it all on camera.
How did he get it back?
Because Akon left his phone in the car and they were able to track it. Within an hour, he had his ride back.
Terrell Stoglin, a guard for the Moroccan basketball club Association Sportive Salé (AS Salé), thinks that rapper J. Cole should not be playing in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
The athlete claimed that it’s “disrespectful” to the sport and the other ballers who are out of work, who have dedicated their lives to the sport, and who have a better skill set.
Is he right?
In a video that is now viral, Stoglin broke down why he feels this way, critiquing the league and the media for celebrating the Dreamville artist because he is popular and has a following.
Terrell Stoglin Top Scorer In Basketball Africa League Described Rapper J. Cole's Presence In The League "Disrespectful" To Those Who Worked Hard For Years To Get This Chance.
— Street Talk Media (@StreetTalkMedia) May 25, 2021
He said, “I think there’s a negative and a positive [to J. Cole’s presence],” Stoglin told ESPN. “The negative part of it is: I think he took someone’s job that deserves it.”
“I live in a basketball world. I don’t live in a fan world,” he continued. “I know a lot of guys that had their careers stopped by COVID and they’re still home working out and training for an opportunity like this.”
“For a guy who has so much money and has another career to just come here and average, like, one point a game and still get glorified is very disrespectful to the game. It’s disrespectful to the ones who sacrificed their whole lives for this.
“The positive side of it is: it brings a lot of attention, and, I guess, money. I don’t really pay attention to that type of stuff. I’m more [concerned that] he took someone’s job that deserved it,” he concluded.
Stoglin is qualified to talk.

While J. Cole might not be a top scorer in the league, far from it, the Tucson, Arizona native is making his numbers. In his recent game against AS Police, he racked up 40 points.
J. Cole has only scored 5 points in three games for his team, The Rwanda Patriots.
The pandemic, the fixation on mobile devices, the re-rise of the Black Lives Matter Movement and countless on the ground soldiers and humanity all collided a year ago in the senseless murder of George Floyd at the hands of the police. Derek Michael Chauvin, the convicted murderer, was convicted of the slaying of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Chauvin has gotten the bulk of the blame, but new reports have said that that police department runs like a gang.
Dave ‘Davey D’ Cook, an Oakland-based DJ, activist and Hip-Hop pioneer, has been a part of the movement for decades. He says the fight continues.
“One year ago.. we lost George Floyd to a callous act of police terrorism. A knee on his neck for over 9 minutes resulted in 25 million people taking to the streets demanding change,” he said, “We still elected officials dragging their feet, reluctant to hold police accountable, but we will press on.”
In honor of George Floyd and the struggle, Davey D produced an eclectic, revolutionary mix in honor of our fallen brother and others. “This mix is a sound track for our struggle,” he said.
Last month, Chauvin was found guilty on all charges related to George Floyd’s death, including murder. Sadly, the larger landscape continues to show systemic racism, oppression and bias flourishes domestically and abroad.
May 25th will continue to be a reminder that we the people must stay action-oriented and commit to the never-ending fight for justice.
Detroit, Michigan is home to a slew of talent, especially when it comes to the rap game.
Willy J Peso is the newest face on the scene. Not only does he arrive with his own unique flow and rhymes, Willy sees himself as “one of the biggest stoners in the universe,” carrying and exuding that great stoner vibe you can’t help but fall in love with.
Willy creates music you put on when you want to have a good time. He states, “You want to be in that right mood, either pre-party, post-party, even during the party. You know there’s going to be some good weed in the area if Willy J. Peso involved.”
The rising star has been grinding independently since 2010, releasing his debut single with Travis Porter which came as a result of his club promoting days. With his own cannabis strain Giraffe Head and his own lifestyle brand Stoned Like Willy, the recording artist always finds time to focus on the music, this year releasing his highly-anticipated 8th studio project titled Planet Peso.
The video for the project’s lead single “Trip To The Bay” featuring Yukmouth from The Luniz was shot in Sacramento.
AllHipHop: Your first single was with Travis Porter, how did that happen? Was that in Atlanta?
Willy J Peso: No, that was me bringing them out to Detroit when I was a club promoter in college. We’d promote parties during college. We brought them out to Michigan for a couple different things. It started there, but the weed’s always been around since the beginning of me doing music. I really dove into the cannabis industry, the whole weed scene in 2014. The homie said, “I know you’re doing all this and all that, you should come work at the dispensary.”
I started working in the dispensary, started seeing s### was getting legal. S### went legal in Michigan in ‘08. Ever since ‘08, I’ve really been heavy into the cannabis s###. It turned up. Since 2014, we’ve been really turnt up with the whole weed brand. Got my Stoned Like Willy brand, I’ve been throwing different seshes. High Times Magazine, they had me do a bunch of headline festivals from here to Cali to Detroit and across the country.
AllHipHop: Who are your biggest influences?
Willy J Peso: My biggest influences are definitely Snoop Dogg, the Jay-Z’s, the Bob Marley’s, and all the independent grinders out there. I really look up to all the people who been pushing their own brand, the Master P’s, the Cash Money, out here with Death Row, in the Bay with Sick Wid It. That’s been my influence in everything: Rap-A-Lot. Since I was young, I’ve always really been into Black business. Really pushing this hip-hop culture forward.
AllHipHop: What was the inspiration behind your name?
Willy J Peso: Willy J Peso comes from being a Jay-Z fan. On the album The Dynasty, he’s talking about changing his name from William over to J Peso. As a kid, I thought “you know what, I’m Willy J Peso!” Trying to really get out here and push the brand, the cannabis lane that came crazy. Now we Stoned Like Willy, everybody wants to be Stoned Like Willy, the Big Giraffe.
AllHipHop: Talk about your new album, Planet Peso.
Willy J Peso: We pushing that Planet Peso out now. We’ve been out here in LA. I dropped a new video with Yukmouth from The Luniz, we did the single on Planet Peso called “Trip to the Bay.” I’ve been coming out to Cali for the last 5, 6 years: going to the Bay, going to LA. Tapping in with all the different growers, all the different cannabis companies I know, all the different artists I f### with. S### been lit. Coming out here with a big bag to get a bag, now I’m coming out here with my own bag. I got my own bread.
AllHipHop: How did you and Yukmouth tap in initially?
Willy J Peso: He was in Detroit. He came to Detroit, he knows my big homie. Shout out to Big Tree and Fireman. We’ve got this private lounge called the OMS Dab House. Anytime anybody comes to Detroit, they tap in with the Dab House family so they can get the exclusive weed and edibles. We keep all the fire weed around, then we went to the studio. We went and locked in with the Coalition DJs, jumped in the studio, and put a banger together.
AllHipHop: How was shooting the visual?
Willy J Peso: We flew back out here to Sacramento. I had a show with Yukmouth in Sacramento with my homie The Royal Dab Show. We did a big 4/20 concert. It was me, Nef the Pharoah, The Luniz, a bunch of different artists from the Sacramento/Bay Area area. After that, we went with Jae Synth, the big homie out there in the Bay doing his thing too with all the videos. We put the video together the next day, right after 4/20. We were really stoned, really high, having a really good time smoking on them Cali trees.
AllHipHop: What was the creative process behind Planet Peso?
Willy J Peso: Planet Peso is a place that’s in my head, it’s what I’m building into reality right now. I’m building my own world where you’re going to see some big giraffes, you’re going to see a lot of weed. You’re going to see a lifestyle, merchandise, business, cannabis. A lot of good music, a lot of good vibes. Planet Peso is this alternate world that I’m building from my head, but I’m trying to put it together right now.
We buying property. We’re going to start doing our own events and own retail space. We getting property for that, just different markets. I’ve been touring for the last 5 years. I’ve got different places that really f### with me. That’s Planet Peso. I always tap in with the different markets that really f### with me. I’ve got people out here in Cali, down South, East Coast, different states that have been really supporting my brand for the last 10 years.
AllHipHop: Can you define “Fake Bags”?
Willy J Peso: “Fake Bags” is them bags you see on 4th Street. The m############ that be selling them fake bags. People put whatever they want to put in there. It’s a culture right now of people taking other people’s ideas and trying to get rich off of it, so that’s the fake bags. We don’t really f### with the fake bags. You want an authentic bag. You want a known source, you want to get tapped in. You want your bag to be stamped by a real one, not a fake one.
AllHipHop: Talk about curating your own events in Detroit.
Willy J Peso: We’ve been doing events for the last couple of years too. I’ve got a Stoner’s Eve event I do every 4/19. I’ve got a Danksgiving Detroit, a big event that we do. Real private, but it’s huge. The following is real big. A lot of people been supporting my Stoned Like Willy events. We come together and have a good time. We get high as a giraffe. There might be a few private things you might want to find.
It’s a networking event, I have a bunch of artists come through. I did one with Jadakiss in 2019, it was crazy. He came to Detroit for my Danksgiving event. We’ve been doing it hard. 2017, I had Sosamann and Smoke DZA for Stoner’s Eve. I did one with Devin the Dude called the Welcome Home Sesh after we got off tour. We went on a 40-city tour, it was crazy. 2 months on the road, that s### was crazy.
AllHipHop: What are you working on now? What are you most excited about?
Willy J Peso: Right now we pushing Planet Peso, dropping a lot of content on WillyJPeso.com. Pushing new merch out via Stoned Like Willy, pushing the Giraffe Head brand. We’ve got that in some dispensaries out in Michigan. Constantly working on new content. I’ve got another EP I’ma drop this year, it’s gon’ be lit.
AllHipHop: What’s the reality of the independent grind?
Willy J Peso: It’s about hard work, knowing that every day you’ve got to get something done. Never relying on nobody else to push your brand further than you push your brand. It’s really putting in what you want to get what you want, an action for a reaction. If you’re sitting at home waiting for it to come to you, then that’s what’s going to happen. You’re going to be waiting. If you’re out here on the road, beating the path, linking up with good, positive people, you’ll get positive outcomes.
AllHipHop: Anyone you want to collab with that you haven’t yet?
Willy J Peso: I want to work with a lot of people. I’d love to see some music with me and Wiz, that’d be cool. That’d be dope. I’ve got a new song with me and Berner getting ready to come out. Me, Berner, Neff the Pharaoh, that’s gonna be hard. I want to work with everybody, all the superstars. Snoop Dogg. I want to work with all the young homies that’s doing s### too. One day, hopefully, I get the chance to work with Jay-Z. I’ma put it out there.
AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let us know?
Willy J Peso: You can follow me @WillyJPeso, stay tapped in. I’ve got to tell people, there’s only one real @WillyJPeso.
AllHipHop: Who’s trying to be you?
Willy J Peso: There’s a lot of people on the internet trying to fake for me. They be going in people’s DMs trying to ask them if they want to buy weed. That’s crazy. Nah, there’s only one Willy J Peso. Instagram’s going to have to verify it so they know. We’re going to have to put that together.
Former video vixen turned reality TV star Erica Mena is divorcing her husband Safaree, after two years and one and a half babies.
Her soon-to-be-ex, who is also a former male video vixen/ sidekick for Nicki Minaj and reality star, received the unfortunate news late on Friday, May 21.
The divorce was filed in Fayette County Superior Court in Georgia. There are no reports that detail why the Mena is calling it quits. But what has been shared is that she wants the house, she wants primary physical custody of their daughter and child support for both the 1-year-old and the baby to come.
The two have appeared as a couple on multiple series of the Love and Hip Hop reality shows profiting from the profile labeling as a problematic couple. They were also problematic as individual cast members on the franchise — always as characters that were unhappy in love.
With this filing, unfortunately, it seems that even in this union they remain “unhappy in love.”
Unless …
As suspected …
This is a new storyline for “Love & Hip Hop.” This would follow the format played out well by Safaree’s friend Ray J.
Ray J and his wife Princess have allowed their family drama to play out as a plot arc in several seasons on multiple series from the same reality franchise.
Let’s hope this is just for the cameras, no one wants to see a “happy” couple break up.
Get New York City and mix it with a lil bit of Chicago and we got A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Lil Durk’s new song, “24 Hours.” The somber and somewhat sad relationship song is sure to get all the couples in their feelings as they go through their ups and downs.
A Boogie’s “Drowning feat. Kodak Black” is now 3x platinum along with the platinum singles “Jungle” and “Timeless” A Boogie has proven that he has hit making abilities. In fall 2017, A Boogie released his gold certified debut album, ‘The Bigger Artist,’ jumping into the Top 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 and #1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart.
Check out the new Polo G visual as he gets the assist from legendary Hollygrove rapper Lil Wayne – and boy did Wayne SNAP on this song. Midway through Wayne’s verse he pretty much cranks up the skill and punchlines just delivering an absolute assault of the track. Gang Gang will go down as one of Polo G’s biggest songs and there’s no question that Wayne helped in achieved that milestone.

LIke father like son! Birdman and Lil Wayne team up for a long awaited collab that’s probably their best collab since “My Leather So Soft.” Tune in as Roddy Ricch lends a hand for this absolute Summer slapper that’s got the internet going nuts.
Today Yellowland Records artist JimmyBoltreleased the music video for his new song “Funplex.” The song and video release were accompanied by a COVID-safe release party that featured heavy smoke, lots of women and overflowing drinks. His latest release “Funplex” is an ode to the Houston indoor entertainment complex with hundreds of games and attractions so it’s got an upbeat vibe on this one.
Raised in a musical family, JimmyBoltis a natural when it comes to creating and visualizing the feel to his music and the industry has taken notice after his collaborations with Lil Keed, SSG Splurge and co-signs from OG Louie the XIII, Rubi Rose, Gunna, Lil Baby, Trippie Redd and more.
Today ATL rap veteran OG KV, CEO of Big Play Entertainment, delivers new music for the streets in the form of a new single “Down” that will be featured on his accompanying project OG Music. The song “Down” tackles the issues of police brutality and all that goes into the police using their badge to do anything and everything but protect and serve the people. The single comes on the heels of the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis that gripped the world.
Famed for discovering “Racks on Racks” hitmaker YC and developing underground Atlanta legend Young Dose, this industry OG has been around since the mid 90’s but has always remained true to the music, despite what may have happened throughout the process of getting artists signed and managing their musical careers.
“Being a CEO, and being with the rappers, I really had developed the passion to do music too, but I really wasn’t focused on my music because I was trying to get my artists out there. Soa started doing that, being in the studio where I started doing music and setting myself up to become an artist also,” OG KV said.
While many rap fans are in the early years of their lives OG KV noted that some of Hip-Hop’s first and earliest fans are now in their 50’s an 60’s looking for something to listen to because they can’t relate to the new trapped out and auto-tuned generation of music.
“Everybody that’s 50 grew up they are hip hop babies, so it’s people that’s older that still love hip hop, but they can’t relate to the new young artists, so they’re like, ‘Put out your music.’ When I look at it and think about it from an artist standpoint, say like Aretha Franklin, James Brown was alive, they would still be doing music no matter how old they were. So even though I’m older now I’m still going to do my music because I still always had a passion for it,” OG KV said. “So being older, I’m using the OG brand, the music that’s more like talking to the youngsters, just spitting game. Talking about the streets, the reality of being in the streets and what comes with it; both sides of it, not just the good. Because many people just nowadays they just talk about the balling part, balling and stunting, and as we both it’s not all balling and stunting. Everybody is not balling and stunting. It’s more people going through the struggle, and that’s what my music is geared to. From my past and what I went through being incarcerated, just going through my trials and tribulations, and so a lot of people feel that.”
Thriving with an OG sound that pays homage to the legendary greats of Southern rap music OG KV brings everything full circle with this project.
“If it catches fire, hey, let’s do it, let’s go. You know, like I said, it wasn’t really about the money at this age because I done have everything. I had all the cars, beautiful women, the houses, travel, I’m seasoned, so it is not about getting the money and getting rich. Of course, I would love for that to happen, but I just want to see what it’s going to do, see what it’s going to do, see what kind of impact I can make. Because like the cloth I’m cut from, like the UGK, MJG, the Scarface, the stuff I grew up on listening to.”
Aliaune Akon Thiam was the victim of a carjacking, according to the Atlanta Police Department. The “I Wanna Love You” singer, known professionally as Akon, saw someone else drive off with his white Range Rover early Tuesday morning.
The alleged offense took place at a QuikTrip gas station in the Buckhead neighborhood. The APD claims Akon was pumping gas on the passenger’s side of his vehicle at the time of the robbery.
“A Black male jumped into [Akon’s] vehicle – he left it running – and drove off,” Atlanta Police Captain Dorian Graham told Fox 5. “It only takes a second for someone to jump in your vehicle and take off.”
Reports say Akon was not injured as a result of the incident that took place on the 700 block of Sydney Marcus Boulevard. As of press time, the 48-year-old musician/entrepreneur has not publicly addressed the matter of his SUV being stolen.
Atlanta Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong recently proposed legislation that would mandate all service stations in the city mount 24-hour cameras on their fuel pumps. Archibong expressed, “It is a common occurrence. It is not an anomaly. It is a significant enough crime and a consistent enough crime that it warrants this intervention.”
Car thefts and other serious felonies, including homicides, have been on the rise in Atlanta in recent months. The spike in crime is part of the reason some Buckhead residents want to split from Atlanta in order to form a new municipality.
A lot of public pressure has been placed on the Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to curtail the growing crime numbers. On May 6, Bottoms announced she will not seek a second term causing some observers to believe the rising lawlessness was the catalyst for her decision.
At one point, Bottoms was seen as a star on the rise in the Democratic Party. She was routinely named as a possible running mate for 2020 Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. However, California Senator Kamala Harris was selected for the position. Bottoms did serve as the co-chair of the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
Earlier this month, Saturday Night Live announced Lil Nas X would be the musical guest on the NBC series’ season 46 finale. The performance took place this past weekend, and it quickly became a trending topic on the internet.
Lil Nas X’s SNL set garnered a lot of attention due to its use of provocative dance moves, fashion, and subject matter. However, it was a “wardrobe malfunction” during the “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” performance that went super viral.
“At first I was afraid to even perform. Then we rehearsed for 2 weeks, then all of the dancers got removed because one had [COVID-19] and new ones had to learn the routine in 24 hours, and then I ended up ripping my pants and couldn’t finish. Everything happens for a reason tho lol,” tweeted Lil Nas X on the morning after his SNL apperance.
While many of Lil Nas X’s fans expressed support for the 22-year-old entertainer, there were some skeptics that believed the incident was purposely staged for publicity. LNX addressed the PR stunt speculation while on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The late-night program’s host played a clip from Lil Nas X’s Saturday Night Live dress rehearsal where he was able to complete his planned pole dance routine. The 7 EP creator told Fallon, “I want everybody who thought it was a publicity stunt to see that. It was not. I would never rip my pants in public on purpose.”
Some viewers questioned whether Lil Nas X set up the headline-grabbing moment because of his history on social media. A teenage Montero Hill reportedly spent years trolling celebrities via his now-deleted @NasMaraj Twitter account. Plus, the music star seemed to intentionally want to enrage his critics by selling “Satan Shoes” and presenting controversial content.
In addition to performing the former #1 Hot 100 single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” on SNL, Lil Nas X also ran through his new song titled “Sun Goes Down.” Both tracks are expected to live on LNX’s forthcoming debut studio album Montero.
