Mike Tyson & Jake Paul Legally Banned From Going All Out According To DJ Whoo Kid

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul’s recent fight has been plagued with rumors that the boxing legend threw the fight or that it was a cash grab. But according to DJ Whoo Kid, both fighters were legally prevented from going too hard.

The 58-year-old former heavyweight champion lost the fight after going eight full rounds with the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer on Friday night (November 15).

Tyson faced intense criticism following the bout, with some claiming “Iron Mike” threw the fight. However, DJ Whoo Kid claimed the fight failed to live up to expectations because both Tyson and Paul were legally restricted.

During a recent TikTok Live, Whoo Kid, who co-hosted the “Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson” podcast, revealed he spoke to Jake Paul on Saturday (November 16) and got some inside information.

“This is the problem; this is what happened,” he began. “Legally, they each cannot go at each other hard. Because if Mike hits Jake Paul, like really hit him … Jake Paul will die. He’s gonna die, like he’s gonna be dead if he went all in. If Jake Paul would hit Mike Tyson, I think because of Mike Tyson’s age, he would kill Mike Tyson. So, the rules were that they got to chill. That’s what I heard.”

Tyson addressed critics after losing to Paul by unanimous decision, 80-72, 79-73, 79-73, revealing he almost lost his life earlier this year.

“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night.  No regrets to get in ring one last time,” he asserted. “I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”

“Ultimate Hustler edition,” he added. “Camera speed, rolling and action. BMF BIG MEECH.”

As 50 Cent is an executive producer of the hit STARZ TV show based on the Black Mafia Family, BMF, fans couldn’t help but wonder if Big Meech would appear in the show.

“He can now return and play himself on the final episode,” wrote one user with a second person adding, “Next BMF season bout to really pop off.”

Meanwhile, a third joked, That n#### that play meech on the show just got fired.”

The actor who plays the BMF founder in the show is none other than Big Meech’s son, Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr.

Lil Meech has remained relatively silent about his father’s release but shared his joy in a since-deleted post.

“This is all i ever wanted,” he wrote alongside a video of his father getting his nails done. “Thank you God.”

The announcement was made extra special as Majors and Good first met at the 2022 gala, although they didn’t begin dating until 2023.

Jonathan Majors gushed over new financé Meagan Good during a red carpet interview.

“Life is crazy—I’m crying to you—she is the most perfect, beautiful, divine [and] powerful being that I’ve ever met,” he told EBONY. “The fact that she said I’m gonna run with you, I’m with it. I feel great.”

The Creed star and the Harlem actress sparked rumors of a relationship after being spotted on a date at the movies in May 2023. The outing was two months after Majors was arrested for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He denied the allegations and was later sentenced to attend a 52-week domestic violence intervention program.

Majors confirmed his relationship with Good at the Congressional Black Caucus’s Annual Black and White Gala in Washington, D.C., on September 23, referring to her as “the missus.”

Meanwhile, the engagement announcement arrived amid whispers of a split. The speculation arose following a rumor on “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show” last Monday. However, a spokesperson came forward to deny the gossip.

“They are not broken up,” a rep told TMZ. “In fact, they will be attending the Ebony 100 Gala together.”

The Christmas Gameday will mark Beyoncé’s third NFL halftime show, following her Super Bowl performances. She teamed up with the Destiny’s Child groupmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for an iconic reunion in 2013. A few years later in 2016, Beyoncé performed again, joining Coldplay and Bruno Mars.

Meanwhile, the most-decorated Grammy artist in history, with 32 golden gramophones to date, could add to her record-breaking collection at the 2025 awards show.

Beyoncé leads this year’s race with 11 nominations, becoming the Grammy’s most-nominated artist of all time with 99, overtaking her husband Jay-Z.

Her critically acclaimed country-infused project Cowboy Carter could snag Beyoncé her first-ever Album of the Year Grammy. However, she faces stiff competition this year, including from Taylor Swift, who has won the award four times, the first and only artist ever to do so.

Meanwhile, Netflix confirmed Beyoncé will bring a few special guests featured on Cowboy Carter. Fans can watch Beyoncé perform during the second of Netflix’s two NFL Christmas Day games. Kansas City Chiefs will face the Pittsburgh Steelers live on Netflix at 1:00 p.m. ET. Beyoncé will perform during the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans game which streams at 4:30 PM ET.

J. Cole Gets Personal In New “Inevitable” Audio Series

J. Cole is taking fans on a journey behind the scenes of his entire career in a new “audio series” titled Inevitable, chronicling everything from the music to his personal life.

The two-time Grammy Award-winning rapper announced the series with a trailer on Sunday night (November 17). In conversations with Ibrahim Hamad and Scott Lazer, Cole reflects on all “the good, the bad and the ugly” moments from the outset of his career until the present day.

“We settled on calling it an “audio series” but to me it plays like a movie in the form of a conversation,” Cole explained. “It was new, it was fun, it was emotional and more than anything, it was therapeutic.”

He added, “I got so much clarity from it, and I understood more than ever the power of having a dream, the power of fueling that dream with strong vision, the magic that happens when we stay in alignment with God, and the darkness that can come in the times that we don’t.”

While J. Cole initially hesitated to share Inevitable, he realized the series’ potential to inspire others.

“As the years of my career grew I found myself much more hesitant to share details of my life with the world,” he continued. “Even as I type this, I feel the last little bit of resistance. ‘You sure you want to do this?’ But if I was a younger version of myself, I know that I would get so much fuel from hearing this from somebody that went for theirs and “made it.” For that reason, I think it’s worth sharing.”

Fans can check out Season 1 of Inevitable on Monday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m. EST.

Dr. Dre Makes Clear Statement About The Game & 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The Game and Dr. Dre have had a complex relationship. Back in the day, The Game helped bring Dr. Dre back to the forefront. Of course, 50 Cent played a role in that too.

Together, they made history. But more significantly, The Game brought bars to the forefront in a way we hadn’t seen in a long time from the West Coast. No disrespect to anyone else, but he had a unique appeal that stretched from the West Coast all the way to New York City.

Eventually, though, he fell out with Dr. Dre—and, of course, with 50 Cent. too.

All of this tension came to a head during the Super Bowl performance featuring Mary J. Blige, Eminem, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre. The Game was noticeably absent, and he wasn’t happy about it. He felt he deserved a spot on that stage, considering his history with Dre and his role as “The Doctor’s Advocate.” Over the years, a lot of bad blood has spilled between them, and the relationship seems irreparable.

Game be talking talking!

Recently, Dr. Dre addressed the situation when asked about it by N.O.R.E. on the Drink Champs podcast. Dr. Dre’s response came across as cold and indifferent—he doesn’t seem care about The Game’s thoughts or feelings. “Nah, I was good,” he said. “It was perfect.”

By the way, the new Snoop and Dre music sounds really good.

Funk Flex Fires Back At Shyne Over His “Bag Of Lies” As Diddy Beef Heats Up

The feud between Funk Flex and former Bad Boy Records artist Shyne is heating up.  Mere hours after Shyne reminded everyone that the Hot 97 radio personality said some “terrible” things about JAY-Z and 2Pac, Flex fired back during his program on Saturday night (November 16). He suggested, once again, that Shyne fabricated some of the claims he made in his new Hulu documentary, The Honorable Shyne.

“Now, Shyne, I see you being careful with your words, too,” Funk Flex said on-air about the Diddy allegations. “You’re tippy-toeing ’cause you don’t want me full blast on your face. […] Listen. You should get a bag of money for a bag of lies. I’m OK with that, bro. I’ma tell you, Shyne – punk. That’s what you are. You’re a punk.”

A post shared by Baller Alert (@balleralert)

The beef started in October after Funk Flex watched a trailer for The Honorable Shyne in which the Belize politician claimed he was the fall guy in the infamous 1999 New York City club shooting that sent him to prison for almost nine years. Although Diddy was involved in the incident, he was acquitted of all charges.

As part of his rant, Funk Flex pointed out that Shyne was by Diddy’s side when the embattled mogul was honored with New York’s Key to the City.

“You can’t lie with me around, bruh,” he said. “And I’m gonna tell you something else Shyne. If you hated Puff so much, when he got the key to the city, you were in the trailer, sucker. You’re a sucker. I can’t stand you. You got no guts. You went to jail ‘cause you took out your guns ‘cause you were scared to get punched in the face by some dudes that you knew that was your people that you jerked.

“You jerked them ‘cause you were signed to them first. You were signed to those dudes first! I am going to expose you Shyne ‘cause you’re a liar. You can fool your country on who you are, but you ain’t fooling me.”

Shyne defended himself when approached by paparazzi recently, saying, “He said terrible things about JAY-Z, he said terrible things about 2Pac, so I’m not surprised,” he told TMZ. “Listen to The Lost Tapes. We all can’t be lying. What did Nas say? He didn’t like how Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers. But Funk Flex, as I said, he said terrible things about 2Pac, terrible things about JAY-Z. He brought audiences to my documentary so thanks for the promo.”

DJ Cash Money Aims To Put Philly Hip-Hop Pioneers Back In The Spotlight

Roughly 104 miles north of the Bronx—the New York City borough that birthed Hip-Hop—lies Philadelphia, home to DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Bahamadia and The Roots.

It’s also where DJ Cash Money honed his skills as a prolific turntablist. A 1988 DMC World DJ Champion, Cash Money didn’t just perfect scratching, he invented an entirely new way to execute the art form (often referred to as “battle style”), pioneered several scratching techniques (including the Transformer), inspired a generation of DJs to follow suit and helped put Philly Hip-Hop on the map. He was also the first DJ to be inducted into Technics DJ Hall of Fame.

Despite all of his accolades and contributions to the culture, DJ Cash Money still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves—nor does Philly for cultivating so many talented Hip-Hop artists. But Cash Money is aiming to change that with a “Philly Hip Hop Legends Show” that would highlight fellow Philly artists Schoolly D, EST from Three Times Dope, Marvelous and, of course, himself.

“At one time, we were known,” Cash Money explains to AllHipHop. “There was a handful of us in Philly that broke the door down. That’s kind of the reason why I wanted to start doing this ‘Philly Hip Hop Legends Show.’ You look at Schoolly D and what he’s done. He influenced Ice-T, who influenced that whole gangsta rap genre. The problem is Philly just doesn’t respect its own. There was a gap where nobody was talking about Philly at all. Like Philly wasn’t even speaking about Philly. And then all of a sudden The Roots came up and started doing their movement.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Real DJ Cash Money (@therealdjcashmoney)

While Cash Money says Philly is a “beautiful city,” he’s sometimes disappointed by the lack of respect the Philly Hip-Hop pioneers get.

“It’s not the people, it’s these so-called gatekeepers that hold everybody back,” he says. “It’s really sad because we have done so much, but you wouldn’t even know it. When you think about the history of Hip-Hop, it goes to New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Philly is nowhere around.  What’s crazy is at that time, the only cities really pushing Hip-Hop on the radio were New York and Philly. All these guys were touring in Philly. The whole Juice Crew was on a Philadelphia label because they couldn’t get a deal in New York.”

Aside from the Philly Hip-Hop showcase, Cash Money and Biz Markie’s longtime DJ/friend Cutmaster DJ Cool V are working on finishing their documentary about Cash Money’s indelible impact on the culture. In 2023, they released a 20-minute teaser of the film featuring interviews with DJ Spinna, Kid Capri, Biz, DJ Rob Swift, Kool DJ Red Alert and GrandWizzard Theodore, among others. But they’ve run into a few obstacles.

“It’s definitely financial, because when we were doing this, the whole pandemic thing happened and just crushed everything,” he says. “And then the guy that was filming it, he used to work for BMW, so this was his side thing, but I think he lost his job there so things have been a little tight. That’s why it’s been on hold. If I can’t jumpstart it myself, I will seek other investors.”

DJ Cash Money’s vast influence on the culture needs to be laid out for those who may not understand just how valuable it is. Even the name Cash Money Records could be loosely traced back to him. Producer Mannie Fresh will likely be the first to admit it.

“Mannie used to study me,” he noted. “He said our records were big down in New Orleans. And he was like, ‘Cash, we used to use your intro for all of our shows.’ I couldn’t believe it. I never knew that. To me, that’s the biggest high for me when you’ve influenced someone and you don’t even know that you did it.”

As explored in the documentary, DJ Cash Money was an idol to aspiring DJs and remains a beast on the 1s and 2s.

“I’m a worldly figure,” he says with confidence. “I’ve influenced the whole DJ culture. I am the blueprint to everything. I tell people all the time, it’s like there’s tiers: Grandmaster Flash, GrandWizzard Theodore and DXT, they made all DJs change and made the turntable into an instrument, right? I took what they did to a whole different level. So now you’re getting all these crazy styles and sounds coming out of my hands.”

DJ Cash Money is urging his fans to nudge their local promotors and booking agents to book the “Philly Hip Hop Legends Show” in hopes of touring in 2025. Serious inquiries only here.

EXCLUSIVE: Young Thug Accused Of Diverting $16M In Latest Legal Battle

Young Thug sold his catalog, pocketing a staggering $16 million, but now AEG wants its share.

What started as a potential partnership between an artist and a corporate giant has devolved into a tangled legal battle over millions in unpaid debts, contested copyrights, and a catalog that was sold without AEG’s consent.

The entertainment giant claims rapper Jeffery “Young Thug” Williams violated a previous agreement when he offloaded copyrights tied to over 400 compositions—assets AEG says were supposed to serve as collateral for an unpaid loan.

They’re calling the sale an unlawful diversion, and the fight for the funds has only escalated.

The roots of the conflict date back to 2017 when AEG loaned $5.25 million to Young Thug’s label, YSL, in exchange for exclusive global rights to promote his live shows.

In return, YSL and Thugger had to repay the borrowed sum, including interest, while also sharing revenue from concerts that featured third-party promoters.

However, by 2019, the situation had soured.

AEG alleges that Young Thug and YSL not only defaulted on the loan, leaving a hefty $5 million outstanding, but also misrepresented their financial capacity to fulfill the repayment promises in the first place.

The legal battle was put on hold in early 2022 when Williams was incarcerated on unrelated criminal charges in Georgia, but with his plea deal finalized in October 2024, allowing him to serve 15 years’ probation outside of prison, the legal posturing will now pick up speed.

The saga took another turn when, in 2021, despite AEG’s legal claims looming, Williams offloaded a massive portion of his catalog—a decision that likely blindsided AEG.

According to documents unearthed by AllHipHop, the rapper netted over $16 million from selling his stake in hundreds of his compositions.

That sale created new problems as ownership of the copyrights shifted hands, adding complexity to a financial dispute already thickened by the artist’s legal troubles.

AEG, left empty-handed, claims Young Thug breached their 2017 contract and even lied to the new buyer by reportedly stating the works were free of any legal entanglements.

AEG is eager to proceed, pushing for more documentation and potentially bringing new parties into the lawsuit.

Now, they are chasing not only the original loan balance but also any earnings attached to the transferred copyrights, which AEG hopes could help recoup what they’re owed.

Meanwhile, discovery efforts continue.

AEG has been pursuing entities involved in the sales of the music rights, serving subpoenas and combing through public records to identify who currently holds the copyrights and where the money from the sale ultimately landed.

The corporation intends to decide in the next six months whether to expand its legal claims against additional parties or to explore other means of recovering the collateral tied to Young Thug’s music catalog.

As of now, with the trial on Williams’ criminal charges concluded, both sides are working toward concluding discovery on the copyright dispute.

The upcoming months could once again place Young Thug at the center of another high-stakes drama, this time involving songs that made him a superstar.

Mike Tyson Rumors: Did The Champ Throw Jake Paul Fight For Money?

Before we get into any rumors. Mike Tyson released a statement. With that statement, he put a “dot” at the end of any rumors. He also had people applauding his “win,” which was a $20 million pay day for his fight with Jake “The Problem Child” Paul. Check out the statement below.

We are happy for Mike! Now…the rumors!

So, the fight is just a few days behind us, and now we’re left pondering what exactly happened. For those who know Mike Tyson, it’s still hard to wrap their minds around the idea of Jake Paul defeating arguably one of the greatest fighters of all time. How did we get here?

Let’s dive straight into the conspiracy theories and rumors. There’s been no shortage of speculation, and one prominent idea is that Mike threw the fight. Some say he threw it outright, while others believe he followed a prearranged script designed to maximize the payday. Honestly, considering how Jake Paul and his team operate in boxing, that theory feels plausible. But let’s look at the various pieces of “evidence” circulating.

READ ALSO: Jake Paul Versus Mike Tyson: Jake Answers Some Of The Big Questions

First, Fat Joe suggested that Mike Tyson simply needed the money. He didn’t directly accuse Mike of throwing the fight or following a script, but he implied that Mike took the fight for financial reasons. Joe mentioned figures like boxing promoters and other “leeches” who’ve drained Mike’s finances over the years. He also pointed out that Mike arrived at the Jake Paul fight alone, without an entourage, and walked to the ring solo—a symbolic gesture, that says no one else was getting a cut of his earnings.

Another perspective is that Mike just didn’t unleash his full fury on Jake Paul. One video online highlighted that Mike was in the ring with the very person promoting the event. Jake! Some believe that Mike held back intentionally, perhaps to avoid ruining the payday. This theory gained traction due to Mike’s odd behavior during the fight—biting his gloves in a way that seemed awkward and out of character, even for him. While we’ve seen Mike exhibit similar habits in the past, this felt different. He was chomping away, seemingly as a reminder to “chill.” The video also showed moments when Mike could’ve physically pummelled Jake but chose not to fully engage. Was it age, caution, or strategy? It’s worth noting that Mike showed bursts of extreme energy during training and online clips before the fight.

Then there’s the clip of Jake Paul whispering to Mike Tyson during the fight. What did he say? Some speculate he told Mike, “I got you your money.” Jake admitted post-fight that he uses a WWE-style persona to sell fights. He also acknowledged in interviews—including one with AllHipHop years ago—that he’s friends with Mike and had no intention of ever fighting him, let alone beating him. Back then, Jake outright said he could never beat Tyson—and, let’s be real, he was probably right.

So, what does all this mean? For Mike Tyson, it means a comfortable retirement package. He looked great, his brand remains strong, and hopefully, this fight ensures he can sustain his lifestyle and maintain his wealth. For Jake Paul, it solidifies his position as boxing’s most polarizing figure—a disruptor that people love to hate. Like it or not, Jake continues to bring attention (and big paydays) to the sport.

Sure, boxing doesn’t need Jake Paul forever, but right now, he’s lighting a fire under the sport. Hopefully, this inspires some of the truly great fighters to step up and create the kind of marquee events that will elevate boxing beyond these spectacles. Until then, Jake Paul’s disruptive presence may be exactly what boxing needs.

Shyne Reminds Fans Funk Flex Said “Terrible” Things About 2Pac & JAY-Z Amid Diddy Spat

Shyne was recently stopped by paparazzi in the New York City streets, where he was asked about some inflammatory comments made by Funkmaster Flex. In October, the dogmatic radio personality snapped on the former Bad Boy Records artist over comments he made about the infamous 1999 Manhattan nightclub shooting involving Diddy, who’s currently behind bars.

“When somebody tries to say they the scapegoat or they was used… it’s been bothering me,” he began. “And I’m gonna keep it a buck. Shyne, I love you bro, and I know what you’ve been though—no I don’t—but you’re a liar. You’re a stone-cold faced liar, Shyne.”

Shyne, who’s promoting his new documentary, The Honorable Shyne, begged to differ and somewhat expected Funk Flex to defend Diddy.

“He said terrible things about JAY-Z, he said terrible things about 2Pac, so I’m not surprised,” he told TMZ.

During Funk Flex’s diatribe last month, he accused Shyne of being hypocrite, saying he was on site the day Diddy was honored with New York’s Key to the City.

“You can’t lie with me around, bruh,” he said at the time.

Funk Flex was apparently trigged by a trailer for The Honorable Shyne, which begins with Shyne recalling being rap’s hottest new prospect. But then the shooting happened. Both Diddy and Shyne were arrested following the incident, but Diddy was acquitted of all charges. Shyne served more than 10 years in prison for the shooting but maintains his innocence. He’s currently focused on his political career. In both June 2021 and February 2022, he was appointed the Opposition Leader in the House of Representatives and the leader of the Belize United Democratic Party.

He returned to the United States for a state visit in August 2021, meeting with several U.S. politicians. In August 2021, the Atlanta City Council dесlаrеd the 20th Ѕhуnе Ваrrоw Dау “fоr hіѕ dеdісаtіоn, соmmіtmеnt аnd ѕеrvісе tо the grеаt реорlе оf Веlіzе.” He has aspirations of being elected Belize’s next prime minister in 2025.

Donald Trump Brags About UFC Ovation As Fans Bail On Jelly Roll Over MAGA Support

Jon Jones was dominant in the UFC 309 main event on Saturday night (November 16) and managed to defend his heavyweight title while pounding Stipe Miocic into retirement.

But outside of the fighting, all eyes were on the celebrities filing into New York City’s Madison Square Garden, including Donald Trump. The soon-to-be POTUS was greeted by several smiling faces; from Kid Rock and Elon Musk to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Jelly Roll.

On Sunday (November 17), Jelly Roll became a trending Twitter (X) topic after a video captured the rapper-turned-country star seemingly thrilled as he shook hands with Trump. He was also caught photobombing Kid Rock and Musk later in the evening.

Following the fight, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to share several articles about the standing “ovation” he got at the event and appeared to take pleasure in all of the celebrities who showed him support. But Jelly Roll fans started bailing on him in droves.

Comments like “Really disappointed to find out Jelly Roll is infected with the MAGA. I’ve deleted all his music. I won’t support anyone who supports hate” and “Jelly Roll was at UFC last night. Embraced Trump and hugged Speaker Johnson & Kid Rock. Why did he leave X again? Refresh my memory. Because his actions have me confused.” Someone even called Jelly Roll a “vile, disgusting p############.”

Jelly Roll proclaimed he was leaving Twitter (X) last month, writing, “This is for sure the most toxic negative app to exist ever — PERIOD. lol. This place is different man, I always heard it was the Wild West on here but man it’s insane . It’s a safe place for everyone to say mean s### to each other with no consequences. I’m out lol.”

Fortunately for Jelly Roll, he won’t have to see the opinions on his Trump encounters. Find more below.

EXCLUSIVE: Diddy’s Leaked Texts To Cassie Shows Violent Aftermath Of Assault

Sean “Diddy” Combs is under new scrutiny as text messages released by the government show his ex-girlfriend Cassie protesting her treatment after a violent altercation at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles in 2016.

The shocking texts follow harrowing security footage that was also released, capturing Diddy chasing and assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway.

“I have a black eye and fat lip. You are sick for thinking it’s OK to do what you’ve done…I still have crazy bruising,” Cassie sent in a message detailing the aftermath of the assault.

Further texts reveal the intensity of the assault: “I turn my head for a second, and you get f##### up, and you drag me down the hall by my hair…I have bleeding cuts…You hit me in the head two good times.”

The altercation, recorded on hotel security cameras in March 2016, shows a disturbing scene: Diddy, dressed in only a towel, grabs Cassie by the neck before throwing her to the ground.

He then kicks her repeatedly and drags her across the hallway, hurling glass vases in her direction.

“When you get f##### up the wrong way, you always want to show me that you have the power and you knock me around. I’m not a rag doll. I’m someone’s child,” Cassie texted, illustrating the growing rift between the couple.

Cassie took legal action in 2023 under the Adult Survivors Act, filing a lawsuit that detailed years of physical and sexual abuse.

The lawsuit was settled within 24 hours, though the settlement terms remain confidential.

Diddy initially denied the claims, later issuing a video in which he apologized for his behavior, calling it “inexcusable” while stating that he had since sought therapy.

Though the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office declared that it would not prosecute Diddy due to the time elapsed since the incident, federal authorities are pursuing separate racketeering and sex trafficking charges against him.

Diddy is currently facing a three-count federal indictment, which alleges his involvement in organizing extensive criminal activities, including sex trafficking, kidnappings, and violent assaults.

He is currently being held at the MDC jail in Brooklyn without bond.

Red Roses and Rhymes: The Symbolism of Flowers in Hip Hop

Hip hop is a genre known for its raw expression of personal and socio-political experiences. Through powerful lyricism and vivid imagery, rappers often convey deep messages. One recurring motif in hip hop is flowers, such as Red Roses. Whether representing love, resilience, or the beauty found in adversity, they offer a unique lens through which we can appreciate the artistry and emotion behind the beats and rhymes.

This article delves into how flowers are depicted in three influential hip hop songs:

  • Kanye West – “Roses”, Year: 2005, Album: Late Registration, Genre: Hip Hop, Rap
  • Retrohash – “Flowers On The Weekend”, Year: 2020, Album: Flowers On The Weekend, Genre: Alternative Hip Hop
  • 2Pac – “The Rose That Grew from Concrete” ft. Nikki Giovanni, Year: 2000, Album: The Rose That Grew from Concrete, Vol. 1, Genre: Hip Hop, Spoken Word

Kanye West – “Roses”

In Kanye West’s “Roses,” flowers serve as a poignant metaphor for life, fragility, and hope amidst adversity. The song, inspired by Kanye’s grandmother’s health struggles, uses roses to symbolize both beauty and the ephemeral nature of life. Kanye paints a vivid picture of a hospital environment where flowers become a symbol of love and support from family members:

“Roses” represents the juxtaposition of life’s beauty and its inevitable hardships, emphasizing the importance of familial bonds and the emotional weight of facing illness and loss.

Retrohash – “Flowers On The Weekend”

Retrohash’s “Flowers On The Weekend” takes a more laid-back, reflective approach to the symbolism of flowers. Here, flowers represent relaxation, self-care, and the simple pleasures of life. The song discusses taking time off to enjoy life’s small moments and reconnect with oneself:

This track highlights the importance of slowing down and appreciating the beauty around us, much like the act of smelling flowers. In the fast-paced world of hip hop, this message serves as a reminder to balance hustle with moments of tranquility and mindfulness.

2Pac – “The Rose That Grew from Concrete” ft. Nikki Giovanni

2Pac’s “The Rose That Grew from Concrete,” featuring Nikki Giovanni, is perhaps one of the most iconic uses of flower symbolism in hip hop. The song and its corresponding poem tell the story of a rose that managed to grow through a crack in the concrete, symbolizing resilience, defiance, and the triumph of the human spirit against all odds:

In this context, the rose represents individuals who rise above their circumstances, overcoming environmental and societal constraints to achieve greatness. 2Pac’s message is one of hope and inspiration, celebrating those who refuse to be defined by their struggles.

Analysis of Flower Symbolism in Hip Hop

Flowers in hip hop often symbolize:

  • Life and Fragility: As seen in “Roses,” flowers can represent the delicate nature of life and the emotional journeys we undergo.
  • Relaxation and Self-Care: “Flowers On The Weekend” emphasizes taking time for oneself and finding joy in simple pleasures.
  • Resilience and Growth: “The Rose That Grew from Concrete” epitomizes the strength and perseverance required to overcome adversity.

These songs demonstrate that hip hop, while often associated with themes of struggle and hardship, also incorporates symbols of beauty, hope, and growth. The use of flowers in these tracks highlights the genre’s depth and its capacity to address a wide range of human experiences.

Flowers in hip hop songs serve as powerful metaphors that convey complex emotions and narratives. From Kanye West’s exploration of life’s fragility and family bonds, to Retrohash’s celebration of self-care, and 2Pac’s iconic representation of resilience, these songs showcase the multifaceted symbolism of flowers in the genre. As hip hop continues to evolve, the enduring imagery of flowers will likely remain a potent symbol of beauty, struggle, and triumph.

Denzel Washington Explains Why He Kissed Man “Full On The Lips”

Denzel Washington says a filmed same-sex kiss was ultimately cut from “Gladiator II,” despite his insistence that it helped define his character’s ruthless nature.

Washington, who portrays the power-seeking Roman Macrinus in Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated sequel to “Gladiator,” revealed in an interview with LGBTQ+ publication Gayety that a scene in which his character kisses another man didn’t survive the final edit.

While the kiss, described by Washington as a brief but significant moment in the film, was meant to reflect Macrinus’ complex sexuality, the actor believes the decision was driven by hesitance from the studio.

“I actually kissed a man in the film but they took it out,” Washington said. “They cut it, I think they got chicken. I kissed a guy full on the lips and I guess they weren’t ready for that yet.”

He clarified that the kiss wasn’t a romantic gesture; rather, it preceded a brutal end for the other character.

“My character killed him about five minutes later,” the actor joked. “It’s the kiss of death.”

In the film, Washington’s Macrinus is a powerful figure, using his gladiators to ascend through the ranks of Roman society.

His fleeting mention of being attracted to both men and women is meant to add depth to the character’s morally ambiguous nature, but Washington feels the kiss would have nailed down the character’s multifaceted personality.

Denzel Washington stars alongside Irish actor Paul Mescal, who portrays Lucius, a young gladiator seeking to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Maximus.

Mescal also recalled a kiss — though a far more innocent one — that didn’t make the cut.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Mescal explained that during a fight scene, he ad-libbed a kiss on the forehead of his co-star, Pedro Pascal, who plays Roman General Marcus Acacius. “Ridley gave me a sarcastic, ‘I’m afraid I did [like it],’ when I asked,” Mescal said.

“Gladiator II” is the much-anticipated follow-up to Scott’s 2000 Oscar-winning historical drama.

EXCLUSIVE: Diddy Accused Of Paying Off Inmates To Make Secret Phone Calls

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been accused of illegally using other inmates’ phone privileges at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, aiming to secretly communicate with witnesses and circumvent scrutiny, according to federal prosecutors.

In a newly revealed court filing, prosecutors argue that the Hip-Hop mogul leveraged phone systems designed for other inmates to make unmonitored contacts, an alleged tactic to evade federal regulations.

The announcement arrives as prosecutors push to deny Diddy bond.

They allege that his “flagrant” disregard of Bureau of Prisons (BOP) rules makes him untrustworthy in establishing he can follow court-ordered conditions if granted release.

“The defendant is well aware of BOP policies but has consistently chosen to ignore them, jeopardizing the integrity of the institutional procedures designed to protect public safety and investigations,” prosecutors wrote in their recent filing.

Diddy is currently detained at the Brooklyn facility while facing a slew of federal charges led by accusations of racketeering, sex trafficking, and orchestrating interstate prostitution.

The racketeering charge claims that Diddy helmed a criminal organization, referred to as the Combs Enterprise, that allegedly operated a vast illicit network for over a decade.

From 2008 through 2024, the indictment alleges, Diddy coerced women into engaging in degrading acts, often through violence and manipulation.

Prosecutors argue that he hosted prolonged sexual performances, referred to as “Freak Offs,” during which he threatened, abused, and exploited women—sometimes recording these acts to maintain control over his victims.

In addition to the racketeering conspiracy, Diddy faces charges of sex trafficking and facilitating the interstate transportation of individuals for prostitution.

Prosecutors claim that Diddy used force, fear, and coercive tactics to make women submit to his demands, while the “Combs Enterprise” carried out multiple violent acts, including kidnappings and arson.

But prosecutors claim that his illegal conduct didn’t stop when he entered custody.

They say that while incarcerated, he used other inmates’ PAC numbers—personal access codes required for calls—to make unauthorized phone calls.

In their review, they examined dozens of such calls, uncovering extensive efforts by Combs to bypass BOP regulations.

Allegedly, Diddy paid fellow inmates—either through electronic money transfers using payment apps or by depositing funds into their commissary accounts—in exchange for their PAC numbers.

The PAC-sharing process opens a vulnerability in the detention center’s monitoring system, allowing inmates like Diddy to obscure their communications from law enforcement.

Alongside phone abuses, Diddy reportedly utilized a third-party messaging application, ContactMeASAP, to send hundreds of encrypted messages.

Prosecutors claim that he maintained anonymity by using email addresses linked to others, including one of his sons, to exchange these communications.

Federal prosecutors stress that Diddy began implementing these covert communication methods shortly after arriving at the facility, signaling, they argue, a pattern of disregard for the rule of law.

Such behaviors, they assert, “speak volumes” about his inability to follow legal restrictions if granted release.

Diddy’s 5th bond hearing is scheduled for November 22.

No, Cardi B, GloRilla, Eminem & Megan Thee Stallion Didn’t Get Paid For Harris Campaign

A senior official from Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign is firing back at rumors claiming that the campaign paid millions to high-profile artists like Cardi B and GloRilla to appear on the trail.

The accusations surfaced amid growing questions about celebrity endorsements and event costs, with some critics alleging that celebrities were paid lavish fees to promote the vice president’s candidacy.

Adrienne Elrod, who served as a senior spokesperson for Harris’ campaign, told Deadline the rumors are completely false.

“We have never paid any artist or performer,” Elrod said, firmly dismissing the allegations. “We have never paid a fee to that person.”

She clarified that while the campaign does cover “any ancillary costs for that performance”—such as travel for band members or crew—no direct payments are made to the celebrities themselves.

“There are laws that have to be followed that we have followed religiously on this campaign,” she explained.

Elrod was referencing Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations that require campaigns to pay fair market value for event costs. According to FEC rules, any services provided must be reimbursed at a fair rate, but direct payments to celebrities would qualify as in-kind contributions, which are subject to legal limits.

The comments come amid a week of clarifications from other major figures involved in Harris’ campaign events. Oprah Winfrey, who hosted a town hall event for Harris in Michigan, was also forced to address the controversy after news broke that her production company, Harpo Productions, received $1 million for organizing the event. Winfrey, who has long been a supporter of Harris, initially denied she had received any personal payment, stating, “Not true,” when asked by a TMZ cameraman. However, she later took to Instagram to clarify that while she did not pocket any fees, her production company was paid to cover the costs of staging the event.

“My production company Harpo was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers, and every other item necessary… Frankly, $1 million is not all that much to me,” Winfrey wrote.

Despite the controversy surrounding the $1 million fee to Winfrey’s company, Elrod and the campaign have maintained that their celebrity endorsements have been in line with campaign finance laws. “We respect all the hustlers involved, and we have followed the rules,” Elrod said, defending the legality of their operations.

Meanwhile, Cardi B, who made waves by speaking on behalf of Harris at a rally in Wisconsin, has also responded to rumors that she was paid to endorse the vice president. In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), the rapper vehemently denied the claims. “I didn’t get paid a dollar and that’s on my three!! I actually came out of pocket for glam and travel because it’s somewhere I wanted to be,” she wrote. “Like please girl, you know damn well I’ll argue you down about politics FOR FREE.”

David Banner Explains How Black Community Is Migrating Adjacent To “Extreme” Right Wingers

David Banner has revealed his bold opinion on how the Black community is becoming more and more like the “extremists” who have become synonymous with the conservative political party.

Banner delivered the unexpected message recently during his interview with Angela Yee, remarking on his belief that it needed to be heard even though it’s bound to spark controversy.

“Some Black people going to get mad at me for saying this,” Banner said in part.

“As much as we talk about right-wing Republicans, extreme right-wing Republicans, Black America is becoming more and more and more like them every day.”

With his direct style, Banner didn’t mince words, emphasizing that the community has started echoing behaviors he believes to be uninformed and reactionary.

“We say, s##t, that’s not true that we have not researched,” he said.

“We talk about every f###ing thing that we don’t know what the f##k we talking [about],” he added, comparing the spread of misinformation and unchecked beliefs to Donald Trump’s notorious tendency to speak on complex topics without factual basis.

Banner turned his focus to religion, suggesting that a lack of research, and in turn, empathy in the community, extends to faith as well.

“Even this, if I say something about religion, if it’s not what somebody else believes in, a person will get mad,” he said. “Have you ever seen that, bro? A muthafucka will want to fight you because of what you believe in. And they ain’t done research on the s##t that they believe in.”

The rapper’s criticism deepened as he argued that the religious beliefs held by Black Americans were largely shaped by historical oppression.

“Most of the stuff that Black people believe in America was given to them by they f###ing oppressor. Who didn’t like you? Who don’t like you on earth?” Banner asserted passionately.

His added in a rhetorical question, “Why would they give you the key to heaven if you didn’t like a m########### on the streets? Would you give them a key to your house?”

As he wrapped up, Banner’s disappointment in the community’s intellectual and cultural state was palpable.

“The sad thing is we let a lot of ignorant muthaf###ers talk they s##t, and we should shut that s##t down,” he said, with Yee adding her agreement.

Banner’s remarks come at a time when other rappers have been voicing support for Donald Trump, who recently became the 47th President of the United States after a successful 2024 election campaign. Waka Flocka Flame recently pushed back on fans criticizing him over his support for Trump despite the fact he has never actually voted in a general election. Judge Joe Brown notably called Vice President Kamala Harris a host of derogatory names during her election bid. Though Banner didn’t mention anyone in particular, it’s hard not to think that he didn’t have any of the aforementioned individuals in mind at the time he made his comments.
