King Key To Release New Club Hit With Beat King & Trilly Polk

King Key’s new EP “Look At It,” produced by Yung Bala On Da Beat, is a commentary on oversharing culture. The four tracks showcase King Key’s unique style and sound. King Key’s message is clear: he doesn’t support oversharing culture and doesn’t feel the need to share every aspect of his life.

The EP is a continuation of King Key’s rise to fame, following his viral success with “Gun Out” and his cover of Young Jeezy’s “Tear It Up” called “Thuggin.” With “Look At It,” King Key refuses to conform to social media norms and asserts his dominance.

King Key’s latest releases include his hit single “DUHH” ft. T Kay Barbie, as well as his highly anticipated club single “Tryna See Sum” ft. Beat King and Trilly Polk.

Rumors have it, King Key getting ready to sign a major deal with Roc Nation. He’s been seen working with people from Sony Orchard as well as producers and artists from Empire.

Make sure you check out his new EP “Look At It” available on all streaming platforms. We expect big things from King Key in 2023!

Did That T.I. Situation Lead To Boosie Leaving Atlanta?

I am probably starting rumors here. BUT…lets get into it. Lil Boosie made the revelation that he is leaving the city of Atlanta. I do not know how long he has been there, but he’s been there long enough to befriend T.I., one of the kings of the city. He made this revelation on Instagram and it was picked up by those that care. And those that care are talking.

Check out what he had to say.

So, he says he is leaving The A (the center of the Black Universe) for Las Vegas? Vegas is what I would regard as the center of the world of debauchery. That may not be the outskirts, but it certainly is the middle of a lot of base stuff like gambling and prostitution. Anyway, what does Lil Boosie see there? Or is it about what he sees in Atlanta?

I definitely do not have the answer. But I do have some thoughts. It could have been a bit uncomfortable for Boosie in Atlanta. He called T.I. out in an interview with DJ Vlad and subsequently blew up their joint album project. For the record, I am mad at Boosie for that. I was looking forward to it. Now we get nothing at all. I hope Tip keeps is bars and drops an ep or something for us. Anyway, could Boosie be feeling some discomfort? By the way, this does not have to be overt threats or harassment. It could easily be a preemptive move to avoid something disastrous.

Best of luck to them all.

By the way, RIP to Mr. Clay Evans, who was Tip’s manager. Nobody in the city even cares about this right now. From what I have read, people really loved him as a positive dude for the city.

TMMYX and Nyck Caution: Putting Down the Vices to Take Over the Hip-Hop Scene

It takes more than talent and dedication to succeed in pursuing one’s goals. What you decide to do and how you change your routine also factor in. TMMYX and Nyck Caution, two rising stars gaining traction in the music industry thanks to their high-profile collaborations and worldwide notoriety, have had to overcome negative habits to succeed.

Many creative people are stressed by living up to the “rockstar” stereotype. It’s easy to get into a destructive pattern of behavior when temptations like drugs, alcohol, and other vices are so readily available. Yet, TMMYX and Nyck Caution knew that prioritizing their health would help them influence the music industry.

To quote a recent interview, TMMYX said, “If I wanted to make an actual difference with my music, I needed to make sure I was in good shape first. That meant giving up drugs and alcohol and devoting myself fully to my work.” A similar view was expressed by Nyck Caution, who further stated, “What makes this event so special isn’t limited to the tunes. Being an inspiration to those around you and improving the world are important goals.”

Their hard work and dedication to bettering themselves have paid off. As an original PRO ERA member, Nyck Caution’s work has been heard by millions of people through services like Spotify and YouTube. Joey Bada$$, Denzel Curry, and Gashi are among the musicians he has worked with. On the other hand, TMMYX won 2019’s Power105.1 live performance competition and has previously opened for Uncle Murda. He worked with PHOR of Vh1’s Black Ink Chicago on a track in 2021, and he’s now writing a tune with Pro Era’s Nyck Caution for release in 2023.

It’s about more than just the money for these creators, though. They’re also dedicated to giving their songs more meaning. TMMYX and Nyck Caution have teamed up for a new project, and the lyrics showcase the musicians’ maturation as lyricists. They are shown in the video reading up in preparation for recording songs with a deeper meaning: they want to stop drinking and using drugs. They precede the flashy style of typical New York icons in favour of something more profound and significant.

Respecting one’s artistic vision is paramount for TMMYX and Nyck Caution. “What really matters is keeping true to oneself,” explains Nyck Caution. The music will help you find yourself before the streams do.

Forward-thinking TMMYX plans to expand his fan base and reach more music fans, and Nyck Caution is motivated by a desire to maintain his legacy as an inspirational figure.

TMMYX and Nyck Caution show what it means to break harmful habits and stay true to yourself in a world where the urge to conform and fit in can be overpowering. Their dedication to their art and message is admirable, and it’s easy to see that they’ll significantly impact the music industry as a result

AKA Update: Authorities Say No Arrests Have Been Made In Rapper’s Murder

Lawyers for deceased South African rapper AKA wants the world to know there has been no arrest for his murder. These comments dispute rumors circulating on Sunday, March 26 that asserts an arrest was made in Cape Town.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, was murdered on the evening of February 10, down outside the Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.

The night of his death, he was scheduled to perform at YUGO, a popular nightclub in the city. Before the show, he decided to eat dinner with friends before being attacked outside the restaurant.

Also killed in the attack was celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, Times Live reports.

According to Sunday World, attorney Rudolph Baloyi, the legal representative for the late rapper and his estate, says over the weekend various media outlets have reported that three suspects have been detained by authorities and that is untrue.

He said, “No, it is not true. No suspects have been arrested in connection with my client’s murder case.”

Captain FC van Wyk, the media liaison officer for the police in Western, confirmed Baloyi’s statement and shared that the police in KwaZulu-Natal are investigating the crime. Van Wyk directed further questions to the agency in an effort to clear up confusion and streamline information distribution.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, also denied anyone has been arrested, asking, “Where are you guys getting this [information]? There has been no update as yet regarding the case.”

According to sources, like Anwar “Dogg” Khan, the rapper’s former bodyguard, AKA’s security protocol was breached.

“In my absence, protocol was breached. Kiernan was called and invited to go to Florida Road’s Wish restaurant, which he accepted,” said Khan in an interview on Tuesday, March 21. “Had I been there, protocol would not have been breached, simply because that call would’ve come through the road manager.”

Damson Idris And Lori Harvey Let People Know They Are Still In Love

The Internet is a beast!! They will tear you apart when they want to. Sometimes they will pay for your funeral, but mostly they want to rip your heart out. That said…Damson and Lori Harvey have endured! Last week, “The Net” had the lovebirds all broken up after a mere three months. More importantly, they had broke up after sharing a slice of oxtail pizza in Brooklyn! I don’t know why she was the one to usher this for the Brit, but she did. Salute.

I hate “sources” sometimes, but not mine, of course. The so-called sources claimed Lori and Damson broke up after that short period. And the internet ran with it like a 100-yard dash with all the jokes to go along with it. The jokes were pretty funny. On the flip side, the other gossip has proven to be less interested to these digital rages. That is: they are still together.

I almost feel like they are running game on the tabloids.

Damson Idris and Lori Harvey were spotted together at a recent SZA concert, walking hand-in-hand. They are lovers still and the internet hates it. They want him to be a sucker and her to be an industry hoe. But no – they are great together and I am happy for them.

The couple attended SZA’s concert where they were walking hand-in-hand. Bro, recently explained his stance on all of this. “You don’t always have to show the world your personal life and that what you do for a living is an extension of yourself, and that’s your baby. And you need to protect that. You also need to protect your personal self too,” he told Rolling Stone.

This is Damson to the press.

Top Dawg: Black Hippy Owes Fans An Album Or EP

West Coast rappers Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul make up the supergroup known as Black Hippy.

Fans of the collective have been waiting for the four emcees to officially present a body of work for years. Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith has now offered some credence that a BH project could see the light of day.

This morning, Top Dawg began answering questions on Twitter. One social media user asked the record executive if the public will ever get a new Black Hippy remix. Tiffith responded, “I think they will… They owe y’all an album or EP.”

Another person posted, “Don’t give us hope, man.” Top Dawg quoted that tweet and added, “I hope for s### [every day].” Additionally, Top Dawd named “Vice City” his personal favorite track by Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Kendrick Lamar.

“Vice City” lives on Jay Rock’s second studio album, 90059, which came out in September 2015. The Joe Weil-directed music video for the Top Dawg Entertainment posse cut features all four Black Hippy members.

Previously, ScHoolboy Q Explained Why A Black Hippy Project Is Hard To Complete

Black Hippy also joined forces for other tracks like “Black Lip Bastard (Remix)” by Ab-Soul, “The Recipe (Remix)” by Kendrick Lamar, and “That Part (Remix)” by ScHoolboy Q. Plus, they all spit bars in the well-received TDE cypher at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Back in 2017, ScHoolboy Q downplayed the idea of Black Hippy ever releasing a full-length project. The South Central Los Angeles native even suggested Top Dawg’s desire for the four stars to unite on an album would not ensure the idea would come to fruition.

“I can’t say that we’ll be in the studio getting a Black Hippy album ready. No matter how much Top [Dawg] wants it to happen, no matter how much [then-TDE Co-President Dave Free] and the fans want it to happen – the chances of us getting into the studio together working on Black Hippy is slim because it’s just too much going on,” expressed ScHoolboy Q.

Six months later, The L.A. Leakers questioned Jay Rock about Black Hippy. The Power 106 radio hosts even called Top Dawg to ask him when the potential BH album would drop. The TDE boss said at the time, “If I tell you, I gotta kill you.”

Logic Recreates ‘MTV Cribs’ For Mansion Tour

“From food stamps and welfare to a m############ mansion, baby. Welcome to the Bobby Boy mansion. This is my crib, and I’m gonna give you m############ a tour,” said Logic in the opening moments of a new video posted on his YouTube channel.

Maryland-bred rapper Logic recreated the MTV Cribs documentary television show for the latest promotional content for his College Park album. The 33-year-old rapper walks around the residence as the camera follows him to document the home.

Viewers get to see several rooms in the house, including the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, studio, theater, and Logic’s office. His pregnant wife, Brittney Noell, also appears on the screen during the tour.

“I’m gonna be honest. I always wanted to do an MTV Cribs. Half of y’all m############ don’t even know what I’m talking about because you’re too young to know,” stated Logic, addressing his younger fans.

MTV Cribs debuted on the MTV cable channel in September 2000. One version of the program also ran on CMT as CMT Cribs. MTV revived Cribs in 2021 with home tours by Big Sean, Rick Ross, Nick Young, Tia Mowry, Evan Ross, and more.

The initial MTV Cribs run from 2000 to 2009 featured some classic TV moments. Hip Hop stars such as Lil Wayne & Birdman, 50 Cent, and Bow Wow made appearances. Redman’s Cribs tour of his Staten Island house is perhaps the most memorable episode of the entire series.

Logic’s “MTV Cribs” video has amassed around 62,000 views on YouTube since its premiere on March 25. The rhymer, also known as Bobby Tarantino, dropped the College Park studio LP on February 24. College Park features RZA, Redman, Statik Selektah, Joey Bada$$, Bun B, Lil Keke, and other acts.

Tyrese’s Girlfriend Says ‘Fast & Furious’ Star Paul Walker Was More Her Type

Tyrese Gibson and Zelie Timothy took to social media to explain how the couple initially met. A clip from the Instagram Live session went viral after Timothy mentioned her boyfriend’s deceased Fast & Furious co-star Paul Walker.

“[Tyrese] wasn’t my type at all. My type was actually Paul Walker. Rest in peace,” said Zelie Timothy while laughing. “He wasn’t my type at all. And my type is not ‘white.’ I’m just saying I was more interested in Paul in every Fast & Furious [movie].”

“Don’t touch me,” responded Tyrese. Timothy then continued, “Even when I met [Tyrese], I was like, ‘He’s kind of old.’ I just like his smile. It’s pretty cool. His personality was okay, but he didn’t understand the Instagram model thing, so he would always talk down on Instagram models.”

At one point, Tyrese seemingly expressed frustration over the Instagram Live conversation with Zelie Timothy. The 44-year-old entertainer added, “This went really bad. This just went really bad, really fast. I’m getting off Live… So you wanted the homie. You didn’t want me.”

Paul Walker and Tyrese starred in several Fast & Furious films together. Both actors appeared in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and Furious 7. Walker passed away in 2013 before Furious 7 hit theaters two years later.

Tyrese Gibson married Norma Mitchell in 2007 before separating in 2009. They had one child together. Tyrese also married Samantha Lee on Valentine’s Day in 2017. He had one child with Lee before they announced their divorce in 2020.

Jim Jones Reacts To 6ix9ine Getting Jumped [VIDEO]

While testifying against his co-defendants in a New York federal trial, Tekashi 6ix9ine also mentioned other rappers not directly associated with the 2019 case. Harlem’s Jim Jones was one of those people 6ix9ine labeled a Bloods gang member in open court.

Last week, footage of men attacking 6ix9ine inside a LA Fitness gym in South Florida spread across the internet. TMZ recently caught up with Jim Jones to get his thoughts on the incident that led to Tekashi being hospitalized.

“I gotta be sturdy out here, ya heard? I gotta move tactical out here, ya heard? Sturdy!” said Jim Jones as he danced in front of the camera. The Dipset Capo also stated, “Maybe it was the wrong type of gym… I be working out every day.”

In addition, Jim Jones responded to the 6ix9ine beatdown by adding, “I’m a grown man. I don’t spend my time doing none of that. I don’t really care about none of that. That holds no merit in my life. This whole thing played out for people on TV. Everybody got their ideas… I don’t give a…”

6ix9ine Turned On The Nine Trey Gangsters

Federal prosecutors charged Tekashi 6ix9ine (born Daniel Hernandez) with racketeering and firearm possession. The Brooklyn-raised entertainer initially pleaded not guilty in the case. The government also indicted other alleged members of the Nine Trey Gangster Bloods gang.

“As alleged in the indictment, this gang, which included platinum-selling rap artist Tekashi 6ix9ine, wreaked havoc on New York City, engaging in brazen acts of violence,” stated then-U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman at the time of the defendants’ arrest in 2018.

6ix9ine eventually changed his plea to guilty on all nine charges and admitted to being a member of the Nine Trey Gangsters. The TattleTales album creator decided to cooperate with the prosecution as part of a plea deal to secure a reduced sentence.

Throughout his music career, Tekashi feuded with numerous other rap stars including Chief Keef, Casanova, G Herbo, The Game, Trippie Redd, and YG. However, 6ix9ine did receive backing from Nicki Minaj. Their “Trollz” collaboration debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2020.

N.O.R.E. “Disgusted” By Gangs Using The Word “Slime”  After He Coined The Term To Replace N-Word

N.O.R.E. said he popularized the word “slime” as a way of referring to the homies in place of the n-word and is upset at the way it’s been used by gangs.

According to the rapper turned podcaster, the positive meaning of the word has been hijacked and turned into a reference to gang affiliation.

He shared his thoughts about the matter during a recent episode of Drink Champs featuring Joe Budden.

“This what’s f##### up about ‘slime’” he began. “People use that as gang terminology. They say, ‘You slime,’ then you affiliated with a certain gang. You n##### is bozos.”

According to N.O.R.E., he was right to criticize because although he didn’t invent the word, “I made it famous.”

N.O.R.E. coined the term in the early 2000s before it was picked up by artists like Young Thug and Vado and transformed into an entire movement. He used “slime” in the title of two tracks on his 2002 album, God’s Favorite. The project begins with the intro song “Hit Me Slime,” featuring Nas, Ice-T, Mike Kyser & Nelly. They all refer to N.O.R.E. as “slime” as do Busta Rhymes and Jadakiss in the outro, “Holla Back Slime.”

Back in 2010, he tweeted about popularizing the term and asked for his proper credit.

N.O.R.E. said he intended the word to be viewed positively and is “disgusted” with how it has come to be used.

“It was also kind of to replace the word ‘n####’ so it was kind of like positive. And now the way they use it, I’m so disgusted. He recalled his anger at seeing “two young dudes” referring to each other as ‘slime” recently. “I watched them, and I literally wanted to shoot them both,” he said. Check out the clip below.

50 Cent rarely fails to make a joke out of the misfortune of his fellow celebrities, and comedian Druski was no different after he took a fall on stage recently.

The internet comedian became the butt of jokes when he fell down some steps during a recent show. Druski became distracted by a woman walking onstage wearing a pair of tiny shorts while he was walking down a set of steps and slipped and tumbled, landing awkwardly.

Jonathan Majors Lawyer Says Video Proves Actor “Completely Innocent” As U.S. Army Pulls Ad Over Assault Charges

The U.S. Army has issued a statement confirming they have paused their ad campaign featuring Jonathan Majors after he was arrested Saturday for alleged assault.

They pulled two “Be All You Can Be” commercials featuring the actor, although they plan to continue running other campaign ads.

“The U.S. Army is aware of the arrest of Jonathan Majors and we are deeply concerned by the allegations surrounding his arrest,” Army Enterprise Marketing Office public affairs chief Laura DeFrancisco confirmed in a statement. “We recently released two ads in which Mr. Majors appears. While Mr. Majors is innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete.”

Jonathan Majors Lawyer Claims Alleged Victim Recanted Allegations

Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York on Saturday (Mar. 25) following an alleged “domestic dispute” with a woman. On Sunday, his lawyer Priya Chaudhry said her client is “completely innocent,” and video evidence will prove it.

“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently,” Chaudhry said in a statement as per Variety.

She claimed the evidence “includes video footage,” from the vehicle where the alleged incident occurred alongside “witness testimony,” from the driver and others. Chaudhry also said “two written statements,” from the alleged victim “recanting these allegations,” alongside the other evidence, “proves that Mr Majors is entirely innocent,” of the assault charges.

“Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday. The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr Majors was arrested. We expect these charges to be dropped soon.”

Prosecutors charged Jonathan Majors with misdemeanor assault, aggravated harassment, attempted assault, and harassment. A judge reportedly released the actor without bail on Saturday.

Ja Morant Gifts Lil Baby Signed Jersey After Scoring 27 Points In Grizzlies Win Over Hawks

Lil Baby was among several rappers watching courtside as Ja Morant scored 27 points in his return to the Memphis starting lineup, helping lead The Grizzlies to victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night (Mar. 26).

The Memphis Grizzlies extended their winning run to six games beating the Hawks 123-119, the NBA’s longest active winning streak.

The 23-year-old South Carolina native came on the bench last week in his first two games following his eight-game ban for brandishing a gun on Instagram Live. After the win Ja Morant gifted his game jersey to Lil Baby, and the pair exchanged a few words while he signed it.

The 2020 NBA Rookie Of The Year also blessed Moneybagg Yo with a signed jersey.

Ja Morant previously revealed he’s a fan of both rappers, and they’re both in his pre-game playlist

“(NBA) Youngboy, (Lil) Baby, Moneybagg (Yo),” Ja replied when asked what music gets him hyped before a game. “And a little bit of that (Pooh) Shiesty brrrrr brrr brrrr.”

YoungBoy has also shown support after Fox Sports analyst Skip Bayless criticized Ja Morant for quoting the lyric: “It’s a parade inside my city, yeah.” The words from NBA Youngboy’s “Fresh Prince of Utah” has become a slogan after Ja Morant began yelling the line in postgame interviews after Memphis Grizzlies wins.

Though Bayless was critical because the song talks about guns, the Grizzlies trolled the analyst, replaying him saying the line after their win on Wednesday.

Last week, NBA YoungBoy’s label took to Instagram with a message for Morant: “You know it’s gonna be a parade for real behind you @jamorant.”

Lil Yachty Says He Is A “Student Of Music’

.Lil Yachty views himself as a “student of all walks of music.”

The rapper, real name Miles McCollum, dropped his fifth studio album, Let’s Start Here, to critical acclaim in January.

The album marks a move away from his signature trap sound, and during a video interview for Billboard, Yachty explained why he wanted to move away from the “assumption” that he was a “mumble rapper or SoundCloud kid” and experiment with psychedelic rock/pop sounds.

“To be honest, I’ve always been so much more than just hip-hop. I love hip-hop with my life, of all music, I’m a student of all walks of music,” he said. “So, this album is so imperative that I got to do something that I wanted to do, that was create a body of work that I was proud of. That I appreciated and reflected me. And was something that peers and people of the world could respect me. The most important thing to me was respect.”

In addition, Yachty noted that he hopes Let’s Start Here wins him some awards.

“I want to win an award, I’ve been nominated for two Grammys (as a featured artist). But it wasn’t my stuff. Technically, I’m featured in a part of it, but it wasn’t mine. Anything would be tight and I would be appreciative – it would be cool,” the 25-year-old added.

Blac Chyna Reclaims Her Real Name & Ditches Public Persona

Blac Chyna has opened up about her decision to revert back to her birth name Angela White.

The 34-year-old told her Instagram followers earlier this week that her “name is Angela,”.and in an interview with Forbes she explained why she is bringing her real name back.

“Well, it was given to me by birth, but mostly for me, it’s getting back to myself. Because you know being in the entertainment field everybody always calls me, ‘Hey Blac Chyna, Chyna, Chyna,’ nobody ever calls me Angela. So sometimes I would kind of like forget who I am, because it’s always about the brand, brand, brand but not the person,” she shared.

However, the model and TV personality noted that this isn’t the end of Blac Chyna as she will continue to use the moniker for her public persona.

“I think now it’s more the separation of it. Like if I’m performing and things like that, that’s Blac Chyna. But if I’m home and I’m with the kids or if I’m doing my business stuff and I’m doing deals, that’s Angela,” the mother of two revealed.

“Like how we are sitting right here and having a conversation, this is Angela. Now if we go, and we gotta get glam, hair, nails, make-up, we got costumes, that’s definitely Blac Chyna.”

As part of her image transformation, Chyna recently underwent breast and butt reduction surgeries and is currently in the process of getting her facial fillers dissolved.

Reflecting on the public’s reaction, she said, “I didn’t even think it was going to be as big as it was… Everybody has been supporting it. So I’m like OK, this gives me the courage to keep going and see how far I can go. So it makes me feel really good. I’m glad I did do it.”

Chyna also revealed that she regularly attends church and was baptized on her birthday in May last year.

Chris Brown Concert Lap Dance Allegedly Prompts Man To Dump His Girlfriend

Chris Brown was performing in the U.K. over the weekend and attempted to give one of his fans an unforgettable night—but her boyfriend wasn’t amused. In a since-deleted TikTok video, a man named Dash says he bought his girlfriend front-row tickets to the Under the Influence Tour. At one point, his girlfriend was called to the stage and Brown proceeded to give her a lap dance. Evidently, the woman didn’t see why Dash would be upset, so he dumped her.

“How I watched my girlfriend up on stage with Chris Brown,” Dash wrote over footage of Brown giving the woman a lap dance while singing “Take You Down.” He followed up with, “Just to update everyone regarding the Chris Brown concert, I’m no longer with my girlfriend. She doesn’t think what she did was wrong.”

In another video, Dash revealed he spent around $611 USD, saying, “[I] want my girlfriend back.” But it seems Dash has nothing to worry about. Brown didn’t single her out because he wants to whisk her away—it’s simply part of his set.

Brown pulled the stunt during another show earlier this month. This one also ended badly. After noticing the woman was filming it with her cell phone, he grabbed it and tossed it into the crowd. Watch a clip below.

EXCLUSIVE: Donald Glover Beats “This Is America” Theft Lawsuit – On A Technicality

In a surprising turn of events, Donald Glover, known by his stage name Childish Gambino, has emerged victorious in a high-profile lawsuit involving allegations of plagiarism.

Kidd Wes, whose real name is Emelike Nwosuocha, had accused Gambino of plagiarizing his 2016 song “Made in America” with the Grammy award-winning track “This is America.”

The lawsuit also named Roc Nation and Young Thug as defendants.

Kidd Wes initially claimed that the hook of Gambino’s#### song was “unmistakably substantially similar, if not practically identical,” to his own track.

Both songs feature a staccato type of flow, with Gambino’s lyrics reading, “This is America / Guns in my area / I got the strap / I gotta carry ’em,” while Kidd Wes raps, “Made in America / Flex on the radio / Made me a terrorist / Pessimistic n##### / You should just cherish this.”

The deciding factor in the case was a technicality related to how Kidd Wes registered his copyright with the United States Library of Congress.

During the course of the legal proceedings, it was discovered that there was an issue with how Kidd Wes had registered his copyright with the United States Library of Congress.

The court decided that Kidd Wes’ copyright claim is not valid because he does not have a copyright registration for the music itself, only for the recorded version of the song. Kidd Wes’ argument that he has a copyright registration for the music is not supported by facts, Judge Victor Marrero ruled.

Kidd Wes says he used one registration to cover both the recording and the music, which is allowed by the Copyright Office under certain conditions. Those conditions are that the music and recording are on the same record, the author is the only performer, and the author owns the copyright for both.

However, just because the Copyright Office allows one registration for both the recording and the music does not mean Kidd Wes’ registration covers both. In fact, his registration certificate only covers the sound recording.

So, Kidd Wes did not get both a recording and music copyright registration with one submission, and he doesn’t have the necessary copyright registration for his claim.

This technicality proved to be a crucial factor in the case, ultimately leading to Childish Gambino’s victory.

As a result, Childish Gambino, Roc Nation, and Young Thug have all been cleared of plagiarism allegations, but Kidd Wes has 30 days to appeal the ruling.

But it will be an uphill battle since Judge Marrero also ruled that the songs were not really that similar.

“Even if [Kidd Wes] had a copyright registration for the composition of [Childish Gambino’s] Composition, however, dismissal would be warranted here because the elements of [Childish Gambino’s] Composition purportedly infringed upon are insufficiently original to warrant protection, or because they are not substantially similar to the Challenged Composition,’ Judge Marrero concluded.

Joe Budden Claims JAY-Z’s $250K Request For “Pump It Up” Verse Is “A Rumor”

Joe Budden made a recent appearance on Drink Champs where he touched on JAY-Z’s alleged astronomical fee for 16 bars. Speaking to co-hosts DJ EFN and N.O.R.E., the dogmatic media personality shed doubt on Hov’s $250,000 request to hop on a remix of 2003’s “Pump It Up.”

“That’s a rumor,” Budden said during the sit-down at the 5:30 mark. “I didn’t personally ask him. I couldn’t personally speak to him.” He continued, “I just know that I don’t have 250 grand. I think Webb [producer] put the battery in my back. [He said], ‘You gon’ let him do that? Nah, you gotta get to the studio right now!’”

Budden addressed the chatter again in 2022, telling the Flip Da Script podcast, “I don’t think it was a big number. I think that was his number. It was just big in my world, but it wasn’t a big number … Listen, I’m super young in that moment. I wasn’t in the studio when they [Jay and Budden’s A&R, Skane] had the conversation. I knew that they had some type of relationship. It was a Just Blaze beat, and I was green behind the ears. I mean, just thought that it would get done.”

Elsewhere in the Drink Champs episode, Budden remained committed to rap retirement and his popular podcast, saying, “People are shocked by my resistance to that idea. They just don’t understand how liberating it feels. Wake up, I go down the street, I talk to my friends, and then I go home—twice a week. Just really sit with that.”
