Unbelievable Transformation: How One Man’s Death Sentence Led to a Life of Musical Inspiration

It’s no secret that life is full of surprises and unexpected turns that keep us on our toes and on the lookout for what comes next. We can face many of those challenges without breaking a sweat. But what would you do if the challenge–the life’s lemon–was the death penalty for a crime you didn’t commit?

Well, that’s what happened to Jacksonville rapper Splash Mullah. Back when he was a 16-year-old kid, he was running around with a bad bunch and got himself into trouble he couldn’t get out of. According to Splash, he was hanging out with his crew when they got into an altercation. Splash suddenly found himself standing in a middle of a crime scene.

When police picked him up, he still didn’t understand the gravity of the situation until he got charged with first-degree murder—an offense whose sentence carries the death penalty. It was a manipulative move that the prosecution used to manipulate and coerce Splash into snitching on his friends. Even though Splash’s world collapsed upon hearing “You are going to be sentenced to death if you don’t cooperate” coming out of the prosecutor’s mouth, he was determined to keep his lips sealed shut.

“It was a crazy experience. I was just a kid who made a mistake. I didn’t even shoot at anyone, but suddenly, I was counting my last days. Staring at the face of death can mess with your mind, but the streets didn’t raise a quitter so I fought it tooth and nail. I didn’t want to believe that my life was over,” says Splash Mullah.

Even though the prosecution relentlessly pursued the harshest penalty, a judge and jury only found Splash guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced him to serve 25 years in prison. While 25 years is a long time indeed, it gave Splash Mullah the opportunity to contemplate and discover his new self. You could say that Splash was productive as it was in prison that he discovered and honed in on his love for singing and rapping with the support of his cellmates and best friend and biological sister, Jamara Davis.

After being released from prison, Splash Mullah followed his dream and started performing all across the US to promote his music and grow his audience. His pursuit was nothing but success as Splash managed to rack up impressive numbers on Spotify that currently stand at over 1.5 million streams and 2500 listeners and even build a clothing brand.

Apart from discovering his passion for music, Splash Mullah also used his time in prison to reflect and repent of his past. He grew his relationship with God and vowed to bring more good into the world if given a second chance. As part of staying true to his promise, Splash Mullah uses his time to educate younger kids in his area to avoid making the same mistakes he did.

“Nobody deserves to go through what I did. There are so many kids on the streets that are just one bad decision away from completely ruining their lives, and if I can do anything about that, then I won’t stand idly by the sidelines and watch the world burn,” he says.

So far, Splash Mullahs’ journey has been an incredible one full of ups and downs – but as he points out, it’s only getting better. With each passing day, he will continue to use music as an outlet for positivity while encouraging others on their own paths toward redemption. More importantly, his inspiring story proves that no matter the challenges life throws your way, you can find the inner strength to face them and find your way to a better tomorrow.

Ways to Promote Hip-Hop Music

As a hip-hop artist, you want to make sure your music reaches the masses and is heard; that is why you’re consistent in your craft and serious about taking your music to the next level. Promoting your hip-hop music is essential for success in this increasingly competitive industry.

In addition to using YouTube promotion services, there’re several other methods you can use to promote your hip-hop music. They include:

Collaborating with Other Artists

One of the most effective strategies you can use to promote your music is collaborating with other artists. This way, you create catchy tunes and expose yourself to a new audience. It’s even better if the artist you collaborated with has a more established fan base than yours, as it will help spread your music faster.

Remember, you don’t have to collaborate with artists in your genre. The best collaborations often come from unexpected combinations, so feel free to explore beyond the hip-hop genre.

Reaching out to Influencers

Influencers are the key to making it big in hip-hop. Whether you’re an upcoming rapper, a producer, or a DJ, having the right people vouching for you can make all the difference. Reach out to influencers in your area that could be interested in your music and see how they can help you spread the word. The more people who know about your music, the better chance you have of increasing visibility and ultimately getting heard.

Organizing Gigs

Organizing gigs is a great way to create hype and gain fans in your local area. Team up with like-minded hip-hop artists and book a venue, then promote it online using avenues such as social media and other online platforms. You can also reach out to local radio stations and publications to advertise your gig, helping you attract an even larger audience.

Creating Online Presence

Creating a strong online presence is essential for any hip-hop artist looking to promote their music. Make sure to create as many social media accounts as possible, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and SoundCloud. Utilizing these platforms to their fullest is key to properly promoting your music. Post regularly, engage with fans and followers, and use hashtags so more people can discover your music.

Doing Online Interviews

Reaching out to online publications for interviews is a great way to get exposure and help others learn about who you are as a hip-hop artist. You can even do podcasts or YouTube interviews with other influencers in the industry, helping to increase your reach and get more people interested in your music.

Making Use of Streaming Platforms

Streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music are essential for any modern hip-hop artist. Make sure to get your music on these platforms so more people can discover it. You can even set up pre-save campaigns, which can help you generate buzz when your new song is released.

Building a Website

As weird as it sounds, having your own website is a great way for people to learn more about you and listen to your music. Having an online portfolio that fans can access easily helps give them more insight into who you are as an artist and what you stand for. You can also use the website to direct fans to streaming platforms, social media accounts, or even merch stores.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the ways you can promote your hip-hop music and get people talking. With some hard work, dedication, and creative marketing strategies, you’ll be sure to find success as a hip-hop artist. Best of luck!

Boosie Celebrates LSU Win By Cutting Net On His Home Court

After Louisiana State University won the NCAA Women’s championship title, rapper Boosie Badazz took to the court in his own house and celebrated.

The team was led to victory by Angel Reese, a Black player labeled hood by the media and press. Well now, one of the hood’s biggest champions sent a message to the team that he got their back— especially saluting Reese who has been the target of a lot of hate over the last week.

In a video posted by @ChuckStarFilms, the “Wipe Me Down” rapper cuts the net off of a basketball hoop, and poses with the net around his neck.

The southern hitmaker had been pretty vocal about the team and their competition all season.

During the show, he shouted out the bushy hair champion Jasmine Carson from the LSU squad, nicknaming her “LSU Ice Spice,” and calling her “The Truth.”

Then he commented, referring to Iowa and Caitlin Clark, saying, “They dead. They dead. Larry Bird, come get your daughter. They dead. They shot in the head.”

The team loves them some Boosie too.

Twitter had a ball comparing LSU to Iowa, noting the totally different vibes of the team.

One person wrote, “I can’t get over Iowa and LSU facing each other in the women’s national championship game…a tale of 2 cultures 😂😭”

Exclusive: Get to Know New York’s Trigg The Ruler

Trigg The Ruler is a 28-year-old hip-hop music video director who has worked with some of the biggest upcoming names in the industry. With a unique creative vision and a talent for bringing the artist’s vision to life, Trigg has established himself as one of the most sought-after directors in New York. In this interview, we’ll be talking to Trigg about his experiences working with different rappers, life on tour, and the rap scene in his hometown.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your experience working with different rappers and their unique personalities?

Trigg: It’s an interesting experience. Each rapper has their own unique personality that they bring to the table. Some are outgoing and energetic, while others are introverted and reserved. As a director, it’s important to be able to adapt to each rapper’s personality and figure out what works best for them

Q: What’s it like being on tour with rappers?

Trigg: Touring with rappers can be fun, but it’s also demanding. You’re constantly on the move, traveling from city to city, and working long hours. It’s important to stay focused and be prepared for anything that might come your way. That being said, being on tour is also a great opportunity to see the world and experience new things.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about the rap scene in your small hometown of Syracuse?

Trigg: The rap scene in Syracuse is growing, but it’s still small compared to other cities. It’s been exciting to see the scene evolve over the years. There’s a lot of growth potential, and I think that with the right support and resources, Syracuse could become a major player in the hip-hop indie world.

Q: What do you think sets your music videos apart from others in the industry?

Trigg: my ability to bring the artist’s vision to life while also incorporating my own creative vision. I also try to push the boundaries and try new things, whether it’s experimenting with different camera angles or incorporating visual effects.

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring music video directors?

Trigg: My advice would be to stay focused and never stop learning. The industry is constantly changing, and it’s important to stay on top of the latest trends and technologies. It’s also important to build relationships and network with other people in the industry. Finally, don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. That’s how you grow and evolve as a director.

Remy Ma Announces Her Return To Battle Rap As An Emcee

On Saturday, April 1, Remy Ma announced “The GOAT Card” on June 3, 2023, at Sony Hall in New York City.

The drop came as an April’s Fool joke with her taunting her friend and little sister, Ms. Hustle.

She tweeted, “Aye @MSHUSTLE1271 don’t “retire” just yet😈… let’s see whose really The Villain!😎#AllThatSisterShitOutTheWindow #TheBiggestBully  #TheresNoPlaceLikeChrome”

“Holla at ME?🧐… everybody know they gotta watch they tone and talk to me nice…or else #TheREALvillain”

“I learned it all from u , u never taught me to watch my tone 😏… only tone imma do is BLACK 😈 #yearofthevillain,” Hustle responded.

Hustle, the Harlem native with the villain crown, has said she was retiring after her Loso battle at John John Da Don’s Pendemic in Atlanta on Saturday, April 15. However, that might not be the case.

According to a follow-up tweet the next day, Remy gave clarity and shared what her plans really were with the recognized “Face of Chrome.”

“Ok, lil sis,  it’s after midnight…let’s stop playing and figure out who our Opps for this 2 on 2😈 @MSHUSTLE1271 & @RealRemyMa versus who🧐 #Chrome23”

The Villains might be the biggest two-on-two duo ever created in the culture.

The battle most fans want to see them go after is The Villains vs. Shooneral. However, many would settle to see The Bardashians take the stage.

Either way, already, Hustle’s strength of schedule in 2023 is bonkers and she is set to WOTY. Shooney, Loso, and now Remy Ma— it will be hard to deny her.

Hustle is also known as the “The First Lady of URL,” and is scheduled to battle Casey Jay on the Ultimate Rap League. No date for that battle has been set.

Remy Ma has not battled in about two decades. Many remember her legendary two battles against Lady Luck on MTV’s Fight Klub.

KSI Apologizes For Using Racial Slur

KSI and his fellow Sidemen groupmates appeared on the British game show Countdown. The “Houdini” rapper said the word “P###” on the program. The pejorative term is considered an insult against people of South Asian origin.

“Look, we need points, alright. I don’t mean this maliciously, but the word’s P###,” stated KSI on Countdown as other people on the panel laughed. Many social media users called out the YouTuber for using the slur.

Following the online backlash, KSI addressed the situation in a tweet shared on Sunday. He wrote, “I wanna [apologize] for saying a racial slur in a recent Sidemen video. There’s no excuse, no matter the circumstances, I shouldn’t have said it and I’m sorry.”

KSI added, “I’ve always said to my audience that they shouldn’t worship me or put me on a pedestal because I’m human. I’m not perfect, I’m gonna mess up in life, and lately, I’ve been messing up a lot. So I’ve decided I’m gonna just take a break from social media for a while.”

The Dissimulation and All Over the Place album creator recently confirmed his third studio LP is on the way. KSI also made headlines over the weekend for his surprise appearance at WWE’s WrestleMania 39 event during the Logan Paul vs Seth Rollins match.

NLE Choppa Polarizes The Internet With “Sl*t Me Out” Promo Pics

“S### Me Out” became NLE Choppa’s latest song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The track from the upcoming Cottonwood 2 peaked at #96 on the weekly rankings.

NLE Choppa will drop a remix to “S### Me Out” on Friday, April 7. The 20-year-old recording artist/internet personality shared some promotional photographs on his Twitter page before the track’s release.

In one of the pictures, NLE Choppa is seen holding the hair of two women on their knees, reminiscent of a man walking dogs by leashes. It appears Choppa recruited Love & Hip Hop star Sukihana and “Pound Town” rhymer Sexyy Red for the “S### Me Out (Remix)” visuals.

Two years ago, Colombian singer/songwriter J Balvin faced backlash for portraying Black women as animals in his “Perra” music video. Balvin later apologized for having the models imitate acting like dogs in a sexual way.

Social media users had polarizing reactions to NLE Choppa’s tweet. Some people accused him of hypocrisy since he recently advocated for celibacy, veganism, and spirituality. Other people online showed support for Choppa.

https://twitter.com/Nlechoppa1/status/1642595233790566402?s=20

“Thought you was selling 110 minerals out of the 102 million we needed nephew. This ain’t it lil bruh,” wrote Midwest rapper/producer Chuck Inglish to NLE Choppa in a quote-tweet.

Another person tweeted, “You know how much a n#### gotta hate you to pretend to go on a spiritual journey just [to] get rid of you, just to do s### like this?!?! I know his ex b#### mad.”

Zay Hilfigerrr had a different take on the pictures. The “Juju on That Beat (TZ Anthem)” performer replied, “Y’all don’t realize Choppa a lowkey content creator 🔥🤷🏽‍♂️.”

NLE Choppa’s Cottonwood 2 will hit DSPs on April 14. The Warner Records-backed project follows 2019’s Cottonwood, 2020’s Top Shotta, 2020’s From Dark to Light, and 2022’s Me vs. Me.

Teyana Taylor Confirmed As Dionne Warwick In Biopic

Teyana Taylor is set to portray Dionne Warwick in a biopic.

In a preview clip of an upcoming appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show,” the singer revealed she is “already working on” a project about the legendary artist.

“We’re already working on it,” Teyana smiled. “We’re in the building process right now. I always wanted to make sure I could lock in with any person that I would be playing.”

Teyana went on to list Angela Bassett’s role as Tina Turner in 1993’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It?* and Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of Ray Charles in 2004’s “Ray” as being particularly inspiring to her as she prepares for the gig.

“I miss when movies were like that, when you got to really get to know them and tap in,” the 32-year-old continued, before emphasizing just how much respect she has for Dionne. “I’ve always been a firm believer and stood on safety. She’s had a wonderful career, and I think right now is about making her feel as safe as possible to tell her story because a lot of these stories get misconstrued or extremely dramatized to an extent. That’s not really where we want to go.”

Back in December 2020, Dionne, 82, wrote in a Twitter message that Teyana would “obviously” play her in a biopic if such a project was greenlit.

Teyana’s full interview for “The Tamron Hall Show” is set to air on Monday. She is currently promoting the new drama film, “A Thousand and One.”

During a recent interview for Billboard, the “Big Energy” rapper – real name Alyssa Stephens – confirmed that she is about to drop some fresh tracks.

“I’ve been in the studio every day. Eating, sleeping in the studio. New music on the way,” she smiled. “Bigger, better visuals, more versatility, more bars, more punchlines. Baby, the pen works.”

Latto didn’t detail when she plans to unveil her new music.

However, she admitted that the positive fan reaction to her single “Lottery” “feels so good.”

“(The fans) they just be here for anything I do at this point,” the 24-year-old smiled.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Latto promoted her new Apple Music 1 show, 777 Radio, which launched on Thursday.

“It started with an interview at Apple Music with my girl Nadeska and it was like, ‘She gotta be on her own show or whatever.’ They had reached out with some schmoney and I said, ‘Oh yeah!'” she added.

Offset Claims He’s Being Blocked From Releasing Music While Continuing To Mourn Takeoff

Offset is clearly struggling with the sudden loss of Migos member Takeoff, who was fatally shot last November. On Saturday (April 1), Offset—also Takeoff’s cousin—shared a tweet that read: “Never thought life be this f##### up. LLTake [rocket emoji]. I can’t drop music also.”

He added, “Black ppl holding black ppl back.” One can only assume he’s talking about Quality Control Music. In August 2022, Offset sued QC for allegedly claiming ownership of his recent solo releases despite Offset buying back the rights in a 2021 deal, for which he “paid handsomely.”

https://twitter.com/OffsetYRN/status/1642298627715629056?s=20

Per Variety, based on a settlement agreement from January 2021, “Offset and Quality Control terminated the Production Agreement with respect to Offset’s solo recording services, and Offset became the sole owner of all rights, title and interest in and to his services as a solo recording artist, entertainer and songwriter.”

A rep for Quality Control replied with the following graphic, which read: “Not only are the accusations in this lawsuit false, they are totally detached from realty. Offset remains a part of QC.”

As for Offset’s reaction to Takeoff’s death, Cardi B explained what happened the night he found out during an appearance on the Jason Lee Show in January.

“Offset picked up the phone, and he’s just like ‘No!’ screaming,” she said, adding he kept screaming “No!” repeatedly. When Cardi asked Offset what was going on, he replied, “Takeoff is dead,” at which point she “smacked him.” Offset continued screaming and eventually vomited.

“I was just like ‘Don’t say that,'” she said. “He’s just like screaming. Throwing things. Throwing up, Running all over […] I was just crying so much. It was terrible.” Takeoff was just 26.

Ice-T Asks For Help In Locating Friend’s Missing Nephew: “Serious Post”

He wrote: “My good friend’s nephew has been missing for a week.. He asked me to post this for him. Thank you.”

Ice-T also shared a “Missing” poster with a photo of the young man, Sean Mercedes. It reads: “The above pictured individual, Sean Mercedes, was last seen at his residence, located at 3034 Albany Crescent, Apt 1D, Bronx, NY at approximately 0430 hours on March 24, 2023. He was wearing a black jacket, black pants and black boots. Anyone with information regarding the above subject please notify Det. Ice-T recently suffered a loss of his own when longtime SVU actor Richard Belzer died. He expressed his sorrow last month during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“It’s hard to talk about Belzer without being funny,” he smiled. “Belzer got me real quick. He says, ‘Ice-T, you’re going to be my partner. You know what I look for in a script?’ I’m like, ‘What?’ He goes, ‘Days off.’

“‘We’re both nightclub entertainers. We both don’t like working late, and we don’t like working much. Me and you will be great partners.’ I said, ‘Well Belzer, you’re Jewish and I’m Black, so if the Klan come, I just gotta outrun you.’ I love Belzer, man.”

Ja Rule has responded to longtime rival 50 Cent, who recently addressed the curse Ja put on the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2019. Last week, 50 Cent announced a new partnership with the NBA team and his Sire Spirits brand. The business mogul quickly headed to the blistering cold state where he vowed to undo Ja Rule’s handiwork. On Friday (March 31), 50 Cent hit the Timberwolves court and made a video about the Murder Inc. rapper.

“There’s a curse on the Timberwolves because somebody made a mistake and let Ja Rule perform at the halftime show,” he says in the clip. “And it was the worst s### that ever happened. Right? But what happened is he cursed the Timberwolves. So, now we’re gonna get rid of the Timberwolves curse. I’ve got a whole ritual planned to break the curse. So everybody get ready to follow it. You gonna get a chance to see what I do when the curse is broken. Timberwolves, let’s go. On three. One, two…[claps].”

Ja Rule soon popped up in 50 Cent’s Instagram comments and wrote, “#RENTFREE. Only thing Curtis lifting is his skirt. 50 been on my d**k. He love my style lmao! And now the curse has been extended.”

Ja Rule originally handed down the curse in 2019 following the disastrous halftime performance. He said at the time: “Y’all really be on my d**k. Let’s be CLEAR. My sound was f##### up at first and didn’t come on when it was supposed to. But I rocked that b*tch… thanks for the love Milwaukee!!! Great win my streak continues.”

Then the Timberwolves weighed in, tweeting, “We too were hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!!!!”

Ja Rule replied, “You just jinx yourself talking to the GOD this way. Your CURSED NOW!!!! You won’t in a championship for the next 30 years…AND KAT IS LEAVING!! Apologize and I’ll lift the CURSE! Kiss of death.”

Timberwolves are currently ranked No. 9 in the league with 39 wins and 39 losses. Only time will tell if 50 Cent’s curse cleanse worked.

EXCLUSIVE: Nicki Minaj Loses Attempt to Sanction Husband’s Rape Accuser For Lawyer’s Wild Statements To Judge

A judge has denied Nicki Minaj’s bid to sanction Jennifer Hough’s lawyer over wild accusations presented to the judge overseeing the case.

Hough was suing Nicki and her husband, Kenneth Petty, for harassment, alleging they pressured her into recanting her 1994 rape allegations against Petty.

Hough claims she was offered $500,000 to drop the case and that Nicki and Kenneth hired private detectives to track her down, harass her daughter, and force her to move between states out of fear for her life.

Nicki’s legal team sought sanctions against Hough and her attorney Tyrone Blackburn after Hough suddenly dropped the rap star from the lawsuit after they initially pursued a default judgment.

The rap star claimed she was subjected to bad publicity, and wasted over $300,000 to defend herself, even though she was ultimately dropped from the lawsuit due to a lack of court jurisdiction since she lives in Los Angeles while the complaint was filed in New York.

Nicki also claimed Blackburn made defamatory statements, including claims that she and Kenneth were members of a merciless New York gang, the Makk Baller Brims.

Another accusation by Blackburn claimed Burstein allegedly engaged in cyberstalking behavior towards Hough’s former lawyer Steven Gordon and scrutinized the comments section of YouTube posts in search of comments posted by his wife.

Blackburn claimed Nicki’s team had unauthorized communications with Gordon, who allegedly had a drug problem, in hopes of convincing Blackburn to drop the lawsuit.

Nicki Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, argued that these accusations were “inexcusable and wholly unsupported.”

However, today (March 30th), the court found that Blackburn’s initial pursuit of a motion for default judgment against Nicki was not sanctionable.

“The court does not find [Hough’s] decision to pursue a motion for default judgment against [Nicki] sanctionable, notwithstanding [Nicki’s] claim that the motion lacked merit. Here, [Hough] did not have an obligation to withdraw her motion for default judgment against Nicki simply because counsel for [Nicki] considered the motion ‘frivolous,'” Judge James R. Cho ruled.

Judge Cho also determined that Blackburn’s letters containing inflammatory comments about Nicki and Burstein did not warrant sanctions, even if they were offensive.

While Nicki’s legal team claimed that this conduct was “creepy,” “weird,” and “beneath the dignity of this profession,” the judge did not find it to be grounds for sanctioning. Though antagonistic, the legal spat did not interfere with the court’s power to manage its calendar and the courtroom.

However, the court reminded Blackburn that, as an attorney, he is held to a higher standard of conduct during these proceedings.

“Blackburn should not take the denial of the motion for sanctions as in any way endorsing his behavior,” Judge Cho said.

Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, and Jennifer Hough are working with a court-appointed mediator to settle the lawsuit.
