ZIO: A Falling Star Landed In Pittsburgh

August 11 1973 Hip Hop was officially born in NYC. 50 years past that date the music has grown into a global artform, becoming one of the world’s most influential cultural forces, an integral part of social and racial justice movements, and a multibillion-dollar industry built on generations of rapping, emcees, DJs, breakdancing and graffiti.

            Kamala Harris said hip-hop is “the ultimate American art form” that “shapes every aspect of America’s popular culture.”

“Hip-hop culture is American culture,” she told the crowd. Kamala hosted a celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary with appearances by some of the music genre’s pioneers and stars.

            We have found a pioneer of our own, a hidden gem, a falling star, in a small humble blue-collar steel town. This artist’s name is ZIO which is properly pronounced as ZEE-YO. ZIO is an American rapper, producer and actor hailing from Pittsburgh,PA. We have been following him since Wiz Khalifa’s Star Power EP, since Mac Miller’s K.I.D.S EP but ZIO went rogue, ghost, and basically fell off of earth it seemed.

            ZIO, like a comet, dropped out of nowhere with an EP this year titled BIZZY 2 which is an encore to his debut from 2019 BIZZY 1, turning it into a compilation. ZIO has radically changed the atmosphere of his music since we first heard of him in 2007 at the age of 17. A fresh audience is growing around his new music on Spotify and Apple Music. ZIO promises to release a song every other week at minimum until eventually the labels come to help circuit his music globally.

            ZIO was born December 27 1988 as  Mitchel K. Malizio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Growing up in predominantly a Hispanic and African American family. His father wasn’t around until the age of 12 due to a lengthy prison sentence for crack cocaine trafficking. ZIO was normally the only kid of his complexion in the schools, boys and girls clubs, or neighborhoods he grew up in.

“Racism is alive and we need to kill it” he said as he took a drag from a thick and perfectly smooth joint.

            ZIO was drafted by a street DJ named DJ Schizophrenic in 2007 which led his trajectory directly to being nominated against Wiz Khalifa for best male hip hop artist. At 17 that’s BIG news for a kid from a town with less than 400,000 people. ZIO eventually was put in front of Atlantic Records, unfortunately, it was cut short due to ZIO’s run-in with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in an incident involving a shooting.

            Taking a hiatus and getting his life on track ZIO vowed to come back with a vengeance. Starting in 2018 he came back with a slew of guerilla videos one featuring Nelly’s Artist on Derrty Entertainment T-RELL, in addition to meeting with Flo Rida at Studio 187, and finally releasing BIZZY 1. Then out of the blue, with no warning, he dropped BIZZY 2 on April 20th, 2023 which now is on its way to 250,000 streams.

Moneybagg Yo Denies Canceling Hometown Memphis Show: “I Spent $300K In Production!”

Moneybagg Yo was expected to perform in his hometown of Memphis on Saturday (September 30), but it was canceled. Not long after the news spread, the rapper took to social media to blast rumors he had anything to do with the concert’s cancelation.

The FedExForum said they’d give refunds for people who purchased tickets already, but Moneybagg Yo felt he needed to reach out to his fans.

“I did not cancel s### FedExForum canceled the show!” he said in a Facebook post. “I Spent 300k in production and had MAJOR special guests popping out to help me put on for my city! S### broke my heart frfr that was the one show I was looking for to I love coming home (a broken heart emoji).”

Moneybagg Yo continued, “I tried everything in my power to assure them that none was gone happen ! Unfortunately At the moment we looking for another venue that’s large enough will keep u updated thanks for everybody support (100 percent emoji).”

The other shows at FedExForum weren’t canceled and so far, there’s no word on why Yo’s was. Other shows like AEW Wrestling, Kirk Franklin and Stevie Nicks are going on as planned.

50 Cent Disses Former G-Unit Members Young Buck & Lloyd Banks—Again

50 Cent has been beefing with Young Buck and Lloyd Banks for what seems like eons. It’s truly no surprise to hear him throwing jabs at his former G-Unit signees, something he apparently did at a recent stop on his Final Lap Tour. On Friday (September 22), the rapper/television mogul shared a video to his Instagram account and once again set his sights on Lloyd Banks and Young Buck.

The behind-the-scenes clip is a look at his recent show in New Jersey and finds 50 Cent joking, “They think this is something? Wait ‘til they see Lloyd Banks’ tour.” He adds, “Wait ‘til they see Straight Outta Cashville,” in reference to Young Buck’s debut album. He wrote in the caption, “Man NJ was a vibe. Toronto is up next! You know I love Canada energy. BOOM.”

The Final Lap Tour has been full of notable moments. Last week, 50 Cent made a stop in Detroit, where he welcomed longtime collaborator Eminem to the stage. The two performed “Patiently Waiting” and the 2009 hit “Crack A Bottle.” Before Slim Shady exited the stage, he told the crowd, “Detroit, make some noise for one of the best friends I’ve ever known, 50 Cent. Make some noise for Hip-Hop’s 50th birthday y’all.”

The Final Lap Tour intends to celebrates the 20th anniversary of 50 Cent’s debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. 50 Cent paid tribute to Eminem and Dr. Dre when the project reached the milestone earlier this year.

“When you have a team like this it’s hard to lose,” 50 Cent wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “I’m so blessed to have worked with the best ever. you can re-write a book, you can re -write a song but you can’t re-write history. The 3 headed monster EM, DRE and 50cent. Boom”

As for Young Buck, one of his summer concert appearances didn’t go so well. In July, Afroman spoke out after a fight erupted between Young Buck and his entourage at a Virginia concert. According to the “Because I Got High” rapper, the altercation took place at The Zarati Shop in Abingdon, where both parties were on the bill. Afroman says Young Buck was acting intoxicated and belligerent.

Afroman explained his side of the story in a lengthy Instagram post, saying he was offended by Buck’s repeated use of the “n-word.” He wrote, “Went to do a show the venue told me to be there at 9:20 when I got there I had to wait because somebody was still on the stage. The venue had to close at 11 I was waiting with my social media photographer, my bodyguard and my artist Lil Sodi when Young Bucc entered the room.

“I am anti N-Word Young Bucc yells out fucc all n-words who don’t do drugs. He was behaving, hostile and aggressive. We were on the right side of the VIP section. He entered the room going to the left side of the VIP section yelling, all kind of insults. He changed his direction and walked bacc over 70 feet He walked over to my socials media photographer, and with a bacc hand strikes him in the side of his stomach.”

Afroman ended his account by wishing nothing but love to Young Buck, who’s had a tumultuous few years—from arrests and financial struggles to his ongoing beef with 50 Cent. 

Eminem’s Ex-Wife Kim Mathers Says She Will Be At Their Daughter Hailie’s Wedding

Eminem and Kim Mathers’ daughter, Hailie Jade, is getting married and wants her parents there for the ceremony. According to the U.S. Sun, she won’t have to worry about them beefing. Hailie is marrying Evan McClintock, and Mathers reportedly said she’ll be there to witness their nuptials, even though she’s been at odds with her daughter for some time.

When asked if she sees her children, including Alaina Scott (her sister’s daughter that Eminem adopted), she replied, “Not often but often enough!” Scott, 30, was also recently married and Eminem walked her down the Great Gatsby glam-themed aisle.

Eminem introduced Hailie early on in his career in songs such as “97 Bonnie and Clyde,” which revolved around his tumultuous relationship with Mathers, who he met in 1988 after she got out of a youth home.

A 6-year-old Hailie was also featured on “My Dad’s Gone Crazy,” the song that made her a Guinness World Record holder. In 2002, she was the youngest performer to be credited with a hit.

Eminem once talked about putting her on the track, telling Rolling Stone., “Me and Dre were working together and Hailie was running around the studio and she was like [in a little girl high voice], ‘Somebody please help me! I think my dad’s gone crazy!’ Instantly that locked in with a beat we’d made the day before. I went to my house, and I had her go in the booth and say it. When she opens up, she’s just like her dad in a lot of aspects. I just told her what to say and she nailed it, the first take.”

Hailie made her engagement to McClintock public in February via Instagram, writing, “Casual weekend recap… 2.4.23 … I love you @evanmcclintock11.”

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Nicki Minaj since the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards aired on September 12. Mainly, social media users have been focused on Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty.

After years of Nicki Minaj and Cardi B feuding, the two women’s husbands got directly involved in the beef. Footage of Kenneth Petty calling out Cardi’s spouse, Offset, went viral.

Those actions reportedly led to a judge ordering Kenneth Petty to serve up to 120 days on home detention for making threatening remarks. Petty is currently on probation after failing to register as a sex offender in California.

I’m not even going to cap you down like that, but I can see how listening to Lil Tecca’s Tec album could leave you speculating Drake didn’t want first-week sales smoke with him.

Not to mention that For All The Dogs will be Drake’s third album within the last year, while TEC is Tecca’s first in nearly three. Furthermore, Doja Cat, who’s arguably the biggest pop star on the planet right now, dropped her album on Friday (September 22) too—so it’s not like Tecca would’ve been the only competition Drake’s team might’ve considered if they even did.

Realistically speaking, though, there are three fairly blatant and finite explanations behind why the 6 God pushed his record back. The first actually intertwines with the second and is the fact that it makes sense he pushed the release back to October 6 when he will be descending upon Toronto for the homecoming show. And again, reason one is basically reason two because said homecoming show is a part of his massive It’s All A Blur Tour in support of he and 21 Savage’s Her Loss collab album. I keep telling folks, what sense does it make for this man to drop an album while he’s touring another?

Third and finally, there’s so much going on right now that I believe logistically it just didn’t make sense for Drake to forcefully execute a rollout while simultaneously juggling a tour, his apparent Houston real estate search and likely cease and desist letters from Halle Berry’s management team.

Blueface appeared to react to Chrisean Rock’s parenting struggles in a September 21 post, saying he was “just as surprised as y’all.” The next day, he said his comment was not in reference to the viral clip of her mishandling their child.

Chrisean Rock addressed the Walmart video on Instagram. She called out Blueface and opened up about parenthood.

“I feel like instead of that lady recording me, she could’ve just helped me,” Chrisean Rock said. “I got a dog, two carts full of s### I need for my house. I’m calling my baby daddy. Is he helping? No. So, I don’t know why he’s chiming in either … Everything is just overwhelming. I’m still learning. I love my baby. He’s a good baby.”

Blac Chyna Puts Pressure On Tyga By Serving His Mom In Child Support Battle

Blac Chyna dragged Tyga’s mother into the former couple’s child support case. According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, a process server delivered legal papers to Tyga’s mom Pasionaye Nguyen in the Los Angeles area on September 1.

Earlier this year, Blac Chyna requested joint custody of her and Tyga’s 10-year-old son King Cairo. She sought child support from her ex in the petition.

The reality TV star, whose real name is Angela White, hired a process server to find Tyga. The process server went to Tyga’s West Hollywood home and gave the papers to the rapper’s mother.

For years, Blac Chyna seemed content with getting no child support from Tyga. He dismissed her bid for child support when reports of her efforts surfaced in August.

“10 years later…nah…stick to ur schedule sat-mon,” he wrote on social media.

Blac Chyna also said she doesn’t receive child support from Rob Kardashian, the father of her daughter Dream. She complained about the lack of child support from Tyga and Kardashian in 2022. Tyga scoffed at her need for money at the time.

“I pay 40k a year for my son school & he lives w me mon- sat,” he wrote in response. “Why would I pay child support lol.”

Blac Chyna awaits Tyga’s legal response to her petition. The amount of money she’s seeking has not been disclosed.

Kathy Griffin Believes Kanye West Abuses His Wife

Comedian Kathy Griffin believes Kanye West is physically and psychologically abusing his wife Bianca Censori because her gut likens him to her abusive brother.

She took to TikTok on Thursday, September 21, to share her theory.

“This is going to be bad. I actually think that he may be physically abusing her and at the very least 100% I think he’s psychologically abusing her,” she said. “Now let me tell you why… I’ve talked about my dead brother Ken on this app, who was a physically abusive man toward actually his wife and his girlfriend (both told me).”

Adding, “One time his wife told me about a time that he had physically abused her when she was out of the shower he locked her outside their apartment and she was totally naked because he wanted to humiliate her in that way.”

The red-head woman, who earns her living off of clowning others, said she knows her statements are going to get her in trouble with the “bros,” but she still needed to share her feelings— hoping it could help Censori, who she believes is being forced by Ye to wear revealing clothing that shows off her “banging body.”

“We’ve all seen those photos of Kanye and his new wife Bianca Censori, right?” she asked. “I see those photos when she is in those pantyhose and like not even a bandeau top, it’s really all about being see-through.”

Twisting her face in concern or horror, the 62-year-old talks about the young woman not having a voice, saying, “We have not heard a peep out of her.”

“I’ve heard that she has a master’s degree in architecture from a university in Australia, she’s gorgeous and she seems to have no voice whatsoever,” she said.

She also mentioned the recent incident, covered by AllHipHop.com, where the two were caught having “sexy time” on a taxi boat in Venice in public.

“When they were in Italy and he had her drop to her knees and give him a ‘service’ and we saw his bare butt — knowing there were paparazzi photographers all the way around and people with just phone cameras — that to me just reeks of abuse,” she said, adding, “Like ‘get on your knees and do this now on a freaking water taxi.’”

Griffin did say that she didn’t know that woman at all, but is concerned.

Victim Identified In Florida Shooting Near Sexyy Red’s Video Set

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office released the name of a victim who was killed near a Sexyy Red video shoot in Florida. Detectives identified the victim as a 36-year-old man named Anthony Dennis.

Dennis was one of two people shot near a flea market in Oakland Park on September 14. Sexyy Red was filming a music video at the flea market, but no on involved in the production was harmed.

Deputies responded to a disturbance in the area but found Dennis dead at the scene. Another victim was wounded and taken to a local hospital. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office did not reveal the second victim’s identity or current condition.

Sexyy Red denied any connection between the deadly shooting and her video shoot. She said her team obtained the proper paperwork and hired off-duty officers to work on the set.

“I send my condolences to the family of the man who lost his life and prayers up for the person who was wounded,” Sexyy Red wrote. “But I gotta address the rumors that it happened at my video shoot bc s### is not true, at all. YNW Melly Fails To Secure Release From Jail Ahead Of Murder Retrial

YNW Melly must remain in jail as he awaits his retrial in a double murder case. Judge John Murphy denied the 24-year-old rapper’s request for bond in a Florida court on Friday (September 22).

Attorneys for YNW Melly filed a motion for a bond hearing in August. Judge Murphy heard their arguments on September 15, but he deferred his decision to a later date. The judge made his ruling a week later.

“After careful consideration, this Court finds that the State has met its burden of demonstrating that the proof of guilt is evident and the presumption of guilt is great,” a court order read, per NBC Miami. “The jurors’ inability to reach a unanimous verdict does not alter the nation or weight of the evidence of Defendant’s guilt.”

Prosecutors accuse YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, of killing his friends YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser in 2018. The double murder case originally went to trial in June, but jurors were unable to reach a verdict after hearing weeks of testimony.

Judge Murphy declared a mistrial in July. Jury selection for YNW Melly’s retrial is scheduled to begin in October.

YNW Melly has remained in jail since his 2019 arrest. He maintains his innocence.

Fat Joe remembers what it used to be like being a broke little kid in The Bronx. With those memories and a big heart, the leader of the Terror Squad decided to come home and donate brand new clothes to more than 600 high school students at the Eagle Academy for Young Men.

He and his team at UpNYC spent $100,000 on sweatsuits, tracksuits, t-shirts, shorts and sneakers for the students—plus, the rap star handed them out personally.

The “All The Way Up” recording artist also gave some words of motivation to the young men.

“It takes dedication and if you apply that in the future, you’ll become successful at whatever you want to do,” he said. “It’s only right for me who has been blessed in my life, me and my partners at UpNYC, my sneaker store, we said, ‘Let’s give back to the community. Let’s give back to the young people and let them know that they are stars of the future.”

According to TMZ,  Fat Joe also visited middle schoolers at I.S. 219 New Venture School and elementary students at P.S. 146 Edward Collins, schools he attended as a kid. The same day, he dropped the new Terror Squad joints, posting a video of himself gifting tons of the custom Air Force 1s to celebrities.

How Did Key Glock’s Money Get Dragged Into Battle Rap World + Remy Ma & Papoose Rumors?

Key Glock has now been dragged into the infidelity rumors swirling within the battle rap world around Remy Ma and husband Papoose. Last weekend, Remy Ma hosted a new edition of her Chrome 23 battle rap league featuring top battle rappers Eazy The Block Captain—who Remy Ma is rumored to be cheating on Papoose with—and Geechi Gotti. Without question, Gotti took aim at Remy Ma and accused her of being unfaithful to Papoose with Eazy Pap.

While Remy Ma has seemingly denied the rumors, fans everywhere are speculating on what happened and that’s where Glizzock makes his random entrance stage left courtesy of battle rapper Calicoe.

“Imagine thinking battle rappers don’t make more money a show than some of your favorite rappers,” Calicoe wrote in a quoted reply to a tweet alleging battle rappers make $200 per battle. “Imagine not knowing that EAZY prolly make more money for 9 mins of rap than Key Glock can get 4 a 50min show. Imagine thinking ‘real rappers’ got some money.”

While the facts may be that battle rappers such as Eazy and the currently incarcerated TSU Surf have been getting to the bag, it’s a whole other ball game to talk about what Key Glock is doing. Bro just announced the Canadian leg of his tour in support of his Glockoma 2 (Deluxe) album. He has more than 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone—bro isn’t signed to Paper Route Empire for nothing. We can clearly see he’s getting to it.

And it appears he’s aware he’s in a completely different league as well, considering the Memphis lyricist seemingly responded to the sneak-diss with a flex of his own.

“Must don’t know Glock own all his masters and still independent,” Glock tweeted hours after Calicoe’s initial statement. At the end of the day, this is crazy. Y’all better put some respect on Key Glock’s name. This man is a direct descendant of the late, great Young Dolph—so what we’re not about to do is act like he’s not one of the top artists to ever blow up from the city of Memphis.

Kodak Black’s Lawyer Slams Post Malone Lawsuit

Kodak Black’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, is tired of attorneys getting a bad name, although he acknowledges that some lawyers are dirtbags.

On Tuesday (September 19), Cohen took to Instagram to post a headline from Radar Online that read, “Post Malone Accused of ‘Physical Abuse’ of Ex-Girlfriend Ashlen, Lawyer Claims to Have Photographic Evidence to Prove Allegations.”

The story in question claimed Martorell Law was suing the chart-topper for an assault perpetrated against his former lover. In the legal case, the firm asserted that Malone had persuaded Diaz to terminate their legal representation and negotiate on her own a confidential agreement directly with him. The lawyers seem to think that the pop star hit his ex with $350,000 as a settlement for her claims. Thus, they’ve leveled a campaign to get something from the case.

Cohen is disgusted by this tactic. As he wrote in the caption, “This is an example of in my opinion, what disgusting lawyers do and what gives lawyers a bad name. This firm, Martorell Law, at one time, represented Posts ex GF seeking a palimony settlement.

“She fired them and settled privately with Post. She then requested the Judge to dismiss the case. These guys now sue and say they have texts and pictures to show abuse. I would imagine given to them by their ex client.”

Cohen blasted them for wanting “to get paid for the ‘work’ they did” and for expecting the Grammy Award winner to “be responsible for their contingency fee.”

“This lawsuit is idiotic, in my opinion, breaches several legal fiduciary duties and is something that gives attys reputations of being jerks,” he concluded. “Nasty move and a nasty way to try and get 100k in fees. Weak lawyering weak case and weak move.”

Martorell Law hasn’t responded to the call-out.

Mark Wahlberg Says His Former Record Label Wanted Him To Be Like Eminem

Mark Wahlberg is widely known as a blockbuster actor but before movies such as Transformers, TED 2 and Patriots Day, Wahlberg was a rapper with Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch. As the Hip-Hop 50 celebrations continue, the Boston native talked a little about his career as Marky Mark.

“I think I could have been a lot more successful had I been allowed to do what I wanted to do,” he said according to TheThings.com. “I think the record company had one specific idea, and they wanted to go for that.”

At the time, Wahlberg had just gotten out of jail and his older brother Donnie was in the chart-topping group New Kids On The Block.

“I wanted to make a record,” he said. “I saw my brother making millions of dollars and I’m still struggling, so I kind of compromised a little bit.”

Things were good for him for awhile. Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch went No. 1 on Billboard with their hit song “Good Vibrations” in 1991.

“They continued to push me further in the opposite direction, that’s when I decided not to make another record and to wait out my contract.”

He also felt as though people tried aligning him with other white rappers, but he was on a different path.

“Could I have been Eminem?” he said. “I certainly hope not. I like Eminem, I think Eminem’s really talented, but I’m trying to go a completely different route.”

But the label wanted him to attack people and say crazy things about people in his family, similar to the way Eminem did addressing his mom and child’s mother—he wasn’t into it.

“No, no. I love my mother, man,” he said. “Are you crazy? No, I can’t be a bad influence on anybody. But I think there’s a lot more to what he does than that. There’s certainly a shock value that’s kind of gotten him to a certain place, but the guy’s got a lot of talent.”

As someone who really grew up in tough circumstances, he didn’t want his music to reflect any of that.

“It’s just, you know, I came from the real thing and I was trying desperately to get away from that,” he said. “I’m trying to work as hard as possible to be the best person I can be, to everybody.”

Lizzo Thanks God For Black Music Action Coalition Honor

Lizzo accepted the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award on Thursday amid her current lawsuit controversy.

The musician was recognised at the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) gala in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Lizzo skipped the red carpet portion of the event, however, she took to the stage at The Beverly Hilton after an introduction by her Big Grrrl dancers.

“Black Music Action Coalition, y’all really are about that action. Thank you so much for this, because I needed this right now,” the Juice singer told the audience. “God’s timing is always on time! I didn’t write a speech because I don’t know what to say in times like these.”

She continued, “It’s easy to do the right thing when everybody’s watching you, and it’s what you do in those moments when nobody’s watching that defines who you are. And I’m going to continue to be who I am, no matter who’s watching. I’m going to continue to shine a light on the people who are helping people, because they deserve it. I’m going to continue to amplify the voices of marginalized people because I have a microphone and I know how to use it.”

The pop singer added, “And, I’m going to continue to put on and represent safe spaces for fat Black women, because that’s what the f**k I do!”

The evening also paid tribute to other trailblazers, including legendary music executive Sylvia Rhone, Keke Palmer, producer Jermaine Dupri and Houston Hip-Hop legend, Trae the Truth.

Lola Brooke Samples Foxy Brown For “You” Single Featuring Bryson Tiller

Rising rap star Lola Brooke is back with a brand new track. The Brooklynite recruited R&B singer Bryson Tiller for “You” which includes a reinterpreted sample from a song by another NYC-bred female rapper.

Lola Brooke’s “You” borrows from “Get Me Home” by Brooklyn’s Foxy Brown. That collaboration with the R&B group Blackstreet came out on Brown’s 1996 debut studio album, Ill Na Na.

Khris Riddick-Tynes and LilJuMadeDaBeat produced “You” for Brooke. An official music video for the record also arrived on YouTube this week. New Orleans rapper Rob49 makes a cameo in the visuals.

“You” follows other Lola Brooke singles such as “Just Relax” and “Don’t Play with It” featuring Billy B. The Recording Industry Association of America certified “Don’t Play with It” as Gold in July 2023.

Since gaining more widespread attention thanks to going viral on TikTok, Lola Brooke has connected with other recording artists. She has collaborated with Latto, Yung Miami, Flo Milli, Ciara, NLE Choppa, Coi Leray and more.

Brooke earned a Best New Artist nomination at the 2023 BET Awards. The Arista Records-backed rhymer is also up for Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist at the upcoming 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards which air on Tuesday, October 10.
