Universal Hip Hop Museum Responds To Calls For Executive Director To Resign

A collective known as Hip Hop Stands With Survivors is calling for the Universal Hip Hop Museum to formally part ways with Executive Director Rocky Bucano, Afrika Bambaataa and the Universal Zulu Nation.

Multiple men have accused Afrika Bambaataa of taking part in sexual child abuse, child pornography and child sex trafficking. Law enforcement authorities haven’t charged the South Bronx-raised DJ with any crimes, and Afrika Bambaataa (born Lance Taylor) has denied any wrongdoing.

Hip Hop Stands With Survivors wants New York City Mayor Eric Adams to end all taxpayer funding for the Universal Hip Hop Museum. The collective also demands Microsoft and other publicly traded companies cease any partnerships with the UHHM until the institution addresses its grievances.

“While some things may seem unrelated, they are necessary to show the full picture and that Rocky Bucano’s ties to Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation are unbreakable and irreversible,” wrote Hip Hop Stands With Survivors representative Leila Wills in a letter to the Universal Hip Hop Museum Board and Legal Counsel David Miller.

“We expect his resignation or for the board to vote him out of the museum’s leadership and for the museum to sever all ties with Bucano, Bambaataa, and the Zulu Nation,” she added. “Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to its swift resolution.”

The Universal Hip Hop Museum states it takes the allegations against Afrika Bambaataa seriously and denounces all acts of violence and abuse. Bucano issued a statement in response to Hip Hop Stands With Survivors.

Bucano writes:

The Universal Hip Hop Museum and Mr. Bucano condemn all acts of acts of violence and abuse.

I would like to make it clear that Afrika Bambaataa has not had a role at the Universal Hip Hop Museum since 2016. I and the Univeral Hip Hop Museum are not party to any activities affiliated with the Universal Zulu Nation I affirm that the Universal Hip Hop Museum is committed to its mission to empower, educate, and uplift communities. While it is true that Afrika Bambaataa was a founding member of the museum, he was removed from any involvement with the museum as soon as the allegations surfaced. He has never been a board member, advisory board member or volunteer.

I have never been a member of the Universal Zulu Nation nor am I an agent of the organization or Afrika Bambaataa. The assertion that UHHM is a financial front for the Universal Zulu Nation, Afrika Bambaataa, or other Univeral Zulu Nation members, is irresponsible, false, and misdirected. The word “universal” in the museum’s title is not in connection to the Universal Zulu Nation or any other such named entertainment organization. The “universal” in the organization’s name refers to the recognition of the culturally diverse nature of Hip Hop and the global impact the genre has had over the past 50 years.

As a cultural institution, the UHHM and I, as its Executive Director, take the allegations made against Afrika Bambaataa very seriously and express sincere empathy for the victims of abuse and their trauma. Since our establishment as a cultural institution, we have worked diligently to serve and uplift. I am committed to and promise our stakeholders and those we serve to uphold our mission with integrity and ethics.

Warmest regards,

Rocky Bucano

Lil Uzi Vert Performs “Just Wanna Rock” On ‘The Tonight Show’

Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock” is already a Top 10 single. The Jersey Club-inspired track still has life on the Billboard Hot 100 after charting for twenty-three weeks.

“Just Wanna Rock” sits at No. 19 on this week’s Hot 100. After performing the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lil Uzi Vert’s latest hit record could bounce back up the rankings.

Uzi stopped by the NBC late-night talk show to give a live rendition of his song, backed by black-clothed dancers, for The Tonight Show audience. A video of the set premiered on YouTube overnight.

The official “Just Wanna Rock” music video collected more than 75 million YouTube views since its debut in November 2022. Plus, Lil Uzi Vert’s popular single amassed over 300 million streams on Spotify.

“Just Wanna Rock” also served as the unofficial anthem for the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL team’s playoff run to Super Bowl LVII. Some backers of Lil Uzi Vert even argued “Just Wanna Rock” became more closely associated with the city than Meek Mill’s classic “Dreams and Nightmares.”

“I don’t think so,” said Uzi when asked about “Just Wanna Rock” replacing “Dreams and Nightmares” in his hometown. “That song’s been around for a very long time, and that song is still hitting exactly the same way. I’m just gonna have to see, in a couple of years, or a decade or whatever.”

Coi Leray Earns Her First Top 10 Hit On The Hot 100 With “Players”

A Coi Leray single is among the ten most popular songs in America.

“Players” jumped up to No. 9 on the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart. This marks Coi Leray’s first entry in the Hot 100’s Top 10 region. The hit debuted at No. 98 in January.

The second-generation Hip Hop star’s track jumped up from No 12. on last week’s Hot 100 rankings. “Players” has remained on that Billboard chart for a total of twelve weeks so far.

Coi Leray and producer Johnny Goldstein sampled Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s classic single “The Message” from 1982 for “Players.” Leray spoke about getting the blessing from Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Grandmaster Flash.

“This guy, he can give me a lot of knowledge if you really think about it. That song was so big and I do know how much that it impacted Hip Hop. I thought it was dope how humble he is. He’s very positive and I love positive energy,” said Coi Leray about the rap icon.

Grandmaster Flash was not the only Hip Hop legend to co-sign Coi Leray’s nostalgia-inducing track. New York City-raised lyricist Busta Rhymes hopped on “Players (DJ Saige Remix)” which borrows elements from Busta’s “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.”

Prior to releasing the original “Players” single in November 2022, Coi Leray also found commerical success with “No More Parties” featuring Lil Durk in 2021. The Recording Industry Association of America certified “No More Parties” as 2x-Platinum last year.

Leray’s Trendsetter studio album arrived in April 2022. The Republic Records-backed project includes guest appearances by Nicki Minaj, Yung Bleu, Fivio Foreign, Young M.A, G Herbo, H.E.R., Nav, Lil Durk, Wallo267, King Gillie, Polo G, Lil Tecca, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, and Pooh Shiesty.

In addition, Coi Leray continues to rack up nominations at various industry award shows. She scored a Best Female Hip Hop Artist nod at the 2021 BET Awards. The daughter of former The Source co-owner Benzino also made it into the Best New Hip-Hop Artist category at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Damson Idris Confirms Jay-Z Helped Secure His Green Card

British actor Damson Idris broke out in America as a star of the FX television series Snowfall. As the final season of the crime drama plays out, Idris had a conversation about drug dealer-turned-rap superstar Jay-Z.

Complex‘s Speedy Morman sat down with Damson Idris in Compton, California. Morman specifically asked the 31-year-old London native if Jay-Z served as a reference for him to get permanent residency in the United States.

“How could you possibly know that? Did I say that? He was. But did I say that?” responded Damson Idris. When Morman questioned if Jay-Z made the offer to help, Idris answered, “Hell no, he didn’t offer that up. I had to ask.”

The Brunel University London alumnus added, “[Jay-Z] has done many things for me over the years. He’s always supported me. He supports everyone. He supports so many people that you don’t even know… If you ever run into Jay-Z, just say thank you and keep it moving.”

In addition to assisting Damson Idris with his green card application, Jay-Z also backed other prominent celebrities. For example, the Brooklyn-raised billionaire reportedly hired an attorney to fight 21 Savage’s possible deportation back to the United Kingdom.

Young Money founder Lil Wayne has been very complimentary of Jay-Z for years. Wayne credits his “God Did” collaborator for paying off his $7.72 million tax debt. Plus, Jay and his Roc Nation company spearheaded the #FreeMeek campaign after then-incarcerated Meek Mill accused Philadelphia law enforcement and a Pennsylvania judge of corruption.

“I’ve never told him this, but he’s a huge idol of mine,” said Damson Idris about Jay-Z. “Thank you for that [green card] reference. I won’t tell you how it happened, because there are a couple more favors that I’m gonna need in the future.”

Rick Ross showed off his fighting skills in a hilarious sparring session with his trainer, revealing he trains without shoes to avoid injuring his coach.

The Biggest Boss took to Instagram on Monday (Mar. 27) to share some workout session footage with his followers. Clips of the amusing encounter began circulating online, with fans joking about Rozay’s powerful punch and jump-kick combo.

Rick Ross is shown sparring in the gym with his trainer in an energetic boxing session. After beating the pads for a while, the MMG boss shares some insight into his training.

“When I get up in the morning—which is usually around 6 or 6:30—I do at least a 20-25 minute HIIT workout, high intensity training, before I even eat anything. Latto & GloRilla Tie For ‘Best New Hip-Hop Artist’ Award; Fans Say Latto Not A New Artist

Latto and Glorilla jointly won Best New Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards Monday night (Mar. 27), but some fans say the trophy should have gone to Glo alone.

While some fans celebrated not just one woman but two winning the award, others claimed Latto should never have received the nomination in the first place.

https://twitter.com/LATTOLANDD/status/1640544314924072962?s=20

Latto first rose to prominence in 2016, winning the first season of Jermaine Dupri’s reality television series The Rap Game. She went by the name Miss Mulatto and dropped several mixtapes in the years following the show. In 2019 Latto signed with RCA Records and made her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with “B#### from da Souf” following a remix featuring Saweetie and Trina.

She scored some platinum-certified hits on her debut album Queen of da Souf, released in 2020. Latto’s big breakthrough came two years later with her Mariah Carey-sampling hit song “Big Energy,” the lead single from her sophomore offering, 777, catapulting her into the mainstream. The track became her highest-charting single to date peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2020 Latto picked up her first Best New Hip Hop Artist nomination at the 2020 BET Hip Hop Awards. Two years later, she was in the running for several Best New Artist gongs and was nominated for Favorite Female Hip-Hop Artist at the American Music Awards. 777 earned her a Hip Hop Album of the Year nomination at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards.

The Ohio native also received a Grammy nod for Best New Artist earlier this year. Nonetheless, fans are unhappy at Latto being categorized as a new artist in 2023. Check out some of the responses at the end of the page.

Drake Pays Tribute To 50 Cent After Catching Heat Over Their Miami Link Up

While Drake may have come under fire for canceling a recent show after being spotted out partying with 50 Cent, that didn’t stop Drizzy from paying tribute to Fiddy a day later.

The OVO honcho was slammed by fans online after he canceled his headlining performance at Lollapalooza Brazil in São Paulo on Sunday night (Mar. 27), citing production issues.

However, fans were angry after Drake was seen on video the night prior, celebrating with 50 Cent. The pair were captured deep in conversation at his birthday party at B#### Trap on the River in Miami. Fans took to social media complaining that Drizzy showed up to the club with 50 but not to his concert.

Nonetheless, the two rappers were shown deep in conversation and presumably had a good meeting. Although some fans were less than pleased Drizzy canceled his show, others began calling for a collab. The two rappers have yet to work on music together and could break records with their respective hit-making abilities. In addition, 50 Cent now reigns over a vast media empire and could pull Drake back into acting.

Drake Shows Love To 50 Cent

On Monday evening, Drake showed love to 50 Cent on his Instagram story, wearing a G-Unit tee with Fiddy’s face on the front.

This isn’t the first time he’s used his fit to pay tribute to 50 Cent. Drake donned a short with Fif’s name on the front while playing Hip-Hop loving basketball star Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Last May, 50 Cent shared a post of Drake wearing the shirt and gave him flowers in the caption. “That boy @champagnepapi came wit it,” Fiddy penned in the caption. “He got off that show and made some real fvcking hits man.”

Trae Tha Truth Transforms Home Of Elderly Woman Previously Arrested Over $77 Trash Bill

Last year, Trae Tha Truth raised money for 82-year-old Martha Menefield after she was arrested for not paying a $77 trash bill.

A video of her arrest went viral with social media outraged cops took her into custody over an unpaid bill. Martha Menefield assumed police were joking as she thought she had paid her bill and never received any notice to appear in court.

The Hometown Hero caught wind of the elderly woman’s plight and stepped in to help. He created a GoFundMe page for Martha Menefield and encouraged his 1 million followers to donate funds. She was in need of home improvements and had no central heating or AC and her house flooded when it rained.

The campaign raised thousands, but the philanthropic rapper never forgot about Martha Menefield. Last week, Trae Tha Truth reached out to contractors in Alabama to continue his efforts to help the senior citizen.

He took to Instagram with a PSA video telling his followers he wants to “make sure we do some crazy stuff” to help bless her life.

“PSA Contractors or Rebuilders!!! Nipsey Hussle’s Killer Gets A Hit-Like Judgement In Court

Nipsey Hussle’s killer Eric Holder is going to have a rough ride going forward.

There are a number of reasons why, but when a judge gets involved in the condemnation, you already know it is going to be horrific. And that’s exactly what happened. In a recent court case, where they were admonishing holder, a judge made a commentary on the situation that essentially put the hit on Holder.

He said once he gets to prison “it’s a greenlight from all the gangs,” and that is a direct quote!  I think it’s pretty crazy that a judge would even speak like that, but we are in a new age and this is not the old days with Judge Judy or something. This is a new era where people have grown up in hip-hop, gang culture is normalized, and most people know what time it is. And the time is retribution time! Eric Holder took away one of our most revered superstars in Hip-Hop. Nipsey Hussle was on the rise and he was a KING! I am mad just thinking about it right now!

A post shared by AllHipHop (@allhiphopcom)

Now, some have speculated that this is not the judge, but it does not matter to me. Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke is the one that sentenced Holder to 60 years to life last week. Whoever said it, said what they MFn said. And, that sounds great to me. I am not suggesting I want him to die a horrible death, but if he does, I assure y’all I’ll sleep like a baby.

RIP Ermias Asghedom!

Amber Rose Explains How She Told Her 10-Year-old Son About Her OnlyFans Account

In a riveting and candid episode of the “Forbidden Fruits with Julia Fox and Niki Takesh” podcast, Amber Rose and Julia Fox, two of Kanye West’s exes, came together to share their experiences and discuss life in the limelight.

Among the topics explored, Amber Rose revealed how she broached the subject of her OnlyFans account with her 10-year-old son, Sebastian, while both women opened up about their time dating the iconic rapper.

Amber Rose began by sharing her unique approach to explaining her OnlyFans account to her son, Bash (Sebastian).

With a blend of honesty and humor, she told him, “Pumpkin, if somebody is stupid enough to pay for pictures of somebody’s feet or something like that, then they pay for it, and you get to go to a really good school and Six-Flags and Universal Studios, and get to have nice clothes and stuff.”

This lighthearted take on the subject showcases Amber’s ability to maintain a sense of humor while educating her child about her career choices.

The conversation then turned to their experiences dating Kanye West.

Amber, who was with Kanye from 2008 to 2010, opened up about her sudden rise to fame

“I don’t shy away from that because it is a really big part of my story and how I became famous. I think the funny part is I didn’t have anyone to look to and say, okay this happened to her so it’s going to happen to me,” Amber reasoned.

“I was the first, I was the girlfriend and then all of the sudden I was by myself walking around and paparazzi would follow me around, alone, and I would say ‘I’m not famous, he’s not with me,’”she said.

Julia Fox, who briefly dated Kanye in early 2022, chimed in with her theory on Kanye’s personality and ambition.

“I have a theory that he has always been the same, kind of, and it’s getting more extreme. I feel like he has always just had really lofting dreams and always kind of pushing the envelope as much as he can, pushing the boundaries – like if you tell the man no, he is going to find a way to get yes,” Julia Fox said.

Their openness and camaraderie showcased the power of women supporting one another, even in the face of shared, high-profile relationships.

New Disturbing Details Emerge In The Jonathan Majors Case And It Involves Court!

Let’s get it started like a Black Eyed Peas song!

Jonathan Majors was the one who called 911, not his girlfriend! The actor, who has been WHITE HOT recently, was worried about his girlfriend. This report contradicts common, public knowledge. He reportedly did this out of concern for his girlfriend. This counter narrative says that, once the cops got there on the scene, her story changed and he was arrested.

As I started writing this, the news hit: Jonathan Majors has been charged! People magazine dropped a bomb. Here are the charges: “three counts of assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, three counts of attempted assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree.”

There must be some police sources that are saying some other stuff, at least to ABC 7. They said, “The
victim informed police she was assaulted,” a police spokesperson said in a statement. According to police sources, the actor called 911 himself to report his concern about his girlfriend, whom
he lives with. However, when police arrived, the girlfriend allegedly told a different story, saying that she and Majors were in a cab on the way home from a bar in Brooklyn when he physically attacked her, the police sources told ABC News on Sunday.”

It looks crazy for him now.

The other part of my rumors, is I was told that he was ready to sue various new corporations that had “mis-reported” that case against him. Now that he has been formally charged, I do not think that will hold a lot of weight. He’s going to show up in court, but not for suing the media. I think he’s going to have to push the line all the way to trial.

His lawyer also issued a statement to the media, re-asserting that he is innocent.

“We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently. This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.”

If he and his lawyers are about that life in the way they said and have irrefutable evidence, they are going to have to show and prove now. I hope he did not do what he is accused of. This would be the dumbest fumble in a long time and it would confirm what they are saying: he’s a POS abuser.

Hopefully he is not, for the sake of men and women worldwide!

6ix9ine May Have A Bounty On His Head, Jermaine Dupri Says, As New Aftermath Footage Emerges

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was brutally beaten at a South Florida gym last week, leaving him with severe injuries that led to his hospitalization.

Amid speculation about the rapper’s controversial past and “snitch” reputation, Atlanta producer Jermaine Dupri shared his thoughts on the situation in a recent interview with Page Six, suggesting that a bounty might have been placed on 6ix9ine’s head.

During the interview, Dupri discussed the motivation behind the violent incident.

“It’s almost like if you see him out, it’s that ‘let’s get him’… type of mentality,” he told Page Six. The producer also shared his theory on the potential reward for the attackers.

“It feels like you get rewarded. I feel like it was like a bounty out for that. Like first person that records Tekashi 6ix9ine getting beat up, they are going to get money or something like that,” Jermaine Dupri speculated to Page Six.

J.D. expressed his concerns about the harmful influence of social media and the desire for attention, which may have played a role in the assault.

“People will reach and want to be the first person to do it and attack, to record to be the first to post, and I’m gonna win. But you’re not gonna get nothing. I just feel like the internet has the black and brown people really confused at this point in time,” Dupri said.

The connection between the attack on Tekashi 6ix9ine and the 2018 RICO charges against him is still unclear. The rapper was arrested on multiple RICO charges in 2018, which were related to his involvement with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.

He was released from prison in 2020 after testifying against several gang members, leading to his “snitch” label within the rap community.

Whether the assault is connected to these previous legal issues remains to be seen and the police are still looking for the perpetrators of the assault.

Da Kid Emm’s “4 The Fam” EP: From retail worker to Full-time rapper!

Have you heard the latest buzz about Da Kid Emm’s EP “4 The Fam”? If not, brace up because I’m going to take you on a journey with one of Maryland’s most underrated artists.

First and foremost, a standing ovation for Big Jerm, the Grammy-nominated producer who brought this production to life. He’s collaborated with some of the industry’s greatest stars, like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, so it’s no surprise that his partnership with Da Kid Emm has produced some genuine magic.

But first, let’s chat about the man of the hour, Da Kid Emm. This is his third national release, and it’s apparent that he’s matured as an artist. “4 The Fam ” demonstrates his maturity and progress via colorful metaphors and futuristic production that will have you bopping your head while you reflect on life.

The thing that I like best about this EP is just how genuine it really is. Da Kid Emm draws inspiration from his own family, using them to motivate him to pursue a full-time career in music. As well as, let’s all be truthful, which of us hasn’t dreamed of quitting our current job and embracing our hobbies, and giving it everything we’ve got?

Yet it’s not simply the relatability that distinguishes “4 The Fam.” The five songs on this project flow together perfectly, forming a well-crafted plot that will keep you interested from start to finish. I haven’t heard a hip-hop album that tells such a unified tale in a long time, and I must say, I’m impressed.

And may we bring up the motivation factor? Da Kid Emm excels at infusing sentiments of optimism and resilience into his songs, and “4 The Fam” is no exception. Listening to this EP actually motivated me! That doesn’t happen to me often while listening to most of todays rappers.

Overall, “4 The Fam” is a must-hear for every hip-hop aficionado. Da Kid Emm has positioned himself among the DMV’s hottest trending musicians, and there is no doubt that we will be listening to more of his upcoming work. So I encourage you to go ahead and listen to this EP, I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how good it really is.

King Key To Release New Club Hit With Beat King & Trilly Polk

King Key’s new EP “Look At It,” produced by Yung Bala On Da Beat, is a commentary on oversharing culture. The four tracks showcase King Key’s unique style and sound. King Key’s message is clear: he doesn’t support oversharing culture and doesn’t feel the need to share every aspect of his life.

The EP is a continuation of King Key’s rise to fame, following his viral success with “Gun Out” and his cover of Young Jeezy’s “Tear It Up” called “Thuggin.” With “Look At It,” King Key refuses to conform to social media norms and asserts his dominance.

King Key’s latest releases include his hit single “DUHH” ft. T Kay Barbie, as well as his highly anticipated club single “Tryna See Sum” ft. Beat King and Trilly Polk.

Rumors have it, King Key getting ready to sign a major deal with Roc Nation. He’s been seen working with people from Sony Orchard as well as producers and artists from Empire.

Make sure you check out his new EP “Look At It” available on all streaming platforms. We expect big things from King Key in 2023!

Did That T.I. Situation Lead To Boosie Leaving Atlanta?

I am probably starting rumors here. BUT…lets get into it. Lil Boosie made the revelation that he is leaving the city of Atlanta. I do not know how long he has been there, but he’s been there long enough to befriend T.I., one of the kings of the city. He made this revelation on Instagram and it was picked up by those that care. And those that care are talking.

Check out what he had to say.

So, he says he is leaving The A (the center of the Black Universe) for Las Vegas? Vegas is what I would regard as the center of the world of debauchery. That may not be the outskirts, but it certainly is the middle of a lot of base stuff like gambling and prostitution. Anyway, what does Lil Boosie see there? Or is it about what he sees in Atlanta?

I definitely do not have the answer. But I do have some thoughts. It could have been a bit uncomfortable for Boosie in Atlanta. He called T.I. out in an interview with DJ Vlad and subsequently blew up their joint album project. For the record, I am mad at Boosie for that. I was looking forward to it. Now we get nothing at all. I hope Tip keeps is bars and drops an ep or something for us. Anyway, could Boosie be feeling some discomfort? By the way, this does not have to be overt threats or harassment. It could easily be a preemptive move to avoid something disastrous.

Best of luck to them all.

By the way, RIP to Mr. Clay Evans, who was Tip’s manager. Nobody in the city even cares about this right now. From what I have read, people really loved him as a positive dude for the city.
