Are A.I. Drake & The Weeknd Are About To Get A Grammy?

Believe it or not, that Artificial Intelligence-generated Drake and The Weeknd song that went viral earlier this year may be competing with real artists at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

If you recall, an anonymous creator by the name of Ghostwriter turned the music industry upside down after releasing an AI-generated collaboration between Drake and The Weekend. The vocals on the record “Heart On My Sleeve” share such an uncanny likeness to real verses from Drizzy and Abel that many people were under the impression that the track was a legitimate leak.

Now, in a startling turn of events, “Heart On My Sleeves,” which was pulled from streaming platforms in April after UMG issued a copyright complaint has been submitted for Grammy consideration. According to a representative close to Ghostwriter, “Heart on My Sleeve” was submitted for Best Rap Song and Song of The Year award categories—which are traditionally awarded to songwriters rather than the song’s performers.

According to Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., those are the contention areas the song is naturally and rightfully eligible to compete within—despite its artificial origins. “It’s absolutely eligible because it was written by a human,” Mason Jr. told The New York Times in an interview.

While it’s unclear what the end gain will be for Ghostwriter, who has maintained his or her anonymity up until this point, should they actually win a Grammy Award for “Heart On My Sleeve.” Regardless of that, Ghostwriter appears to be here to stay and intends to be a leader in purveying AI-generated song technology within mainstream music. Ghostwriter’s next sonic social experiment? A thunderous—and fake—Travis Scott and 21 Savage collaboration. What a time to be alive!

Revisit the internet-breaking song above and check out Ghostwriter’s latest faux La Flame and 21 collaboration below.

Kanye West Seeks Court’s Help To Stop Music Leaks

Kanye West pursued legal action over social media accounts leaking his music. According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Ye filed a lawsuit for breach of contract and misappropriation of trade secrets in California.

The lawsuit targeted accounts using variations of the handle @daunreleasedgod, which allegedly leaked Ye’s unreleased songs on Instagram and Twitter. The leaks were titled “Broken Road,” “I’ll Be Alright, “Jail,” “Mr. Miyagi,” “Shay Can’t Look,” “We Did It Kid, “Why They So Mad” and “Wouldn’t Leave.”

Kanye West also accused the accounts of leaking an unauthorized video of him in the studio, footage of a listening party and a mini-documentary. Ye insisted he took precautions to prevent the leaks, but the account still “wrongfully took, without permission or authority.”

Ye claimed he “suffered significant financial losses and damages as a direct result of the defendant’s actions.” He hoped to make the defendant cover his legal fees.

“The defendant’s actions amount to the theft of a trade secret,” his lawyers argued. “Ye’s musical composition, with its distinctive arrangement and unique elements, constitutes a trade secret due to its economic value, secrecy and the efforts taken to safeguard it.”

Kanye West requested a permanent injunction to shut down the leaks. He awaits a decision.

Lizzo And Epic CEO Sylvia Rhone To Be Honored At 2023 Black Music Action Coalition Gala

The Black Music Action Coalition plans to celebrate Lizzo despite the controversy surrounding her treatment of dancers. The organization announced it will present awards to Lizzo and Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone at the 2023 BMAC Gala, which is scheduled to take place on September 21.

Lizzo will receive the BMAC Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award. Rhone will be given the BMAC Clarence Avant Trailblazer Award.

“The Black Music Action Coalition is proud to honor Lizzo and Sylvia Rhone at this year’s Gala, as they join a group of trailblazers who have made immense impact within the music industry and beyond,” BMAC co-founder Willie “Prophet” Stiggers said. “We applaud their dedication to pushing boundaries, amplifying Black voices and crashing through those glass ceilings creating space for Black women.”

Jermaine Dupri, Keke Palmer and Trae Tha Truth are a few of the other notable names receiving awards at the 2023 BMAC Gala. The event will be held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Last month, three of Lizzo’s former dancers sued her for sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. She denied the accusations.

“Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations, but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed,” Lizzo said. “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

The singer’s ex-dancers stood by their allegations. Their attorney said more former dancers came forward with similar claims against Lizzo.

Beastie Boys Will Finally Have Their Own Square In New York City

Beastie Boys—the raucous trio of Mike D, Ad-Rock and the late MCA—turned rap upside down in 1986 with the release of Licensed To Ill (Def Jam Recordings). Full of party anthems, a healthy dose of misogyny and speaker-rattling beats for days, the Rick Rubin-produced effort produced gold (and eventually platinum). More than 35 years and seven albums later, they are etched in the Hip-Hop history books as one of the most successful groups of all time. On Saturday (September 9), the corner of Ludlow and Rivington Streets in the Lower East Side of Manhattan will be transformed into Beastie Boys Square.

The historic locale was once home to Paul’s Boutique—the namesake of Beastie Boys’ 1989 sophomore album. The eponymous shop was famously featured on the gatefold album cover. The ceremony will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET and will include a guest DJ set by Jon Bless HiFi System. Both Mike D and Ad-Rock will be in attendance.

Beastie Boys Square gets its new name a decade after LeRoy McCarthy launched a petition to rename the street corner in Manhattan’s Lower East Side neighborhood. In 2014, a local community board rejected McCarthy’s proposal, banning him from reapplying for a minimum of five years. McCarthy’s most recent proposal was approved by the New York City Council last year.

“As many of us know, once the Beastie Boys hit the scene, it really changed the hip-hop game,” council member Christopher Marte, said at the time. “I see it as a celebration. A celebration for the Lower East Side, a celebration for Hip-Hop and especially a celebration for our community who has been organizing for a really long time to make this happen.”

In addition to spearheading Beastie Boys Square, McCarthy got a special mural to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Paul’s Boutique approved at the same LES spot. In 2013, a park in Brooklyn Heights was renamed for the MCA, who died the previous May.

Donald Trump Loses Second Defamation Lawsuit Amid His Various Legal Troubles

Donald Trump suffered another loss in court on Wednesday (September 6). A federal judge found the former president liable for defamation in writer E. Jean Carroll’s second lawsuit against him.

Earlier this year, a New York jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll. Jurors awarded her $5 million in damages.

Carroll’s first lawsuit accused Trump of sexual abuse in the ‘90s and defamation in 2022. Her second lawsuit targeted comments made while he was still in office in 2019.

Judge Lewis Kaplan ruled in Carroll’s favor, saying the jury’s previous decision determined the ex-president’s liability. A trial is scheduled for January 2024, but the judge’s ruling means the proceedings will only determine the damages owed to Carroll.

“The truth or falsity of Mr. Trump’s 2019 statements therefore depends — like the truth or falsity of his 2022 statement — on whether Ms. Carroll lied about Mr. Trump sexually assaulting her,” Judge Kaplan explained. The jury’s finding that she did not therefore is binding in this case and precludes Mr. Trump from contesting the falsity of his 2019 statements.”

Trump is appealing the verdict in Carroll’s original sexual abuse and defamation case, which she won in May. His lawyers believe it will be overturned, nullifying Judge Kaplan’s ruling in the second defamation case.

“We remain very confident that the Carroll II verdict will be overturned on appeal, which will render this decision moot,” attorney Alina Habba said. “We also anticipate that the Second Circuit will stay this trial as it considers the meritorious defenses that have been raised by President Trump.”

Trump’s latest legal defeat occurred a few weeks after he was booked and released from jail in Georgia. The former president and his allies were hit with RICO charges for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

The Georgia election case is one of four criminal cases against Trump. He faces 91 charges in total.

Living Legends Plot Return With First New Album Since 2008: “It’s Time To Set The Bar”

Living Legends—the West Coast Hip-Hop collective comprised of Luckyiam, Eligh, The Grouch, Bicasso, Aesop, Sunspot Jonz, Scarub and (once upon a time) MURS—will return with their first new music since 2008’s The Gathering on Friday (September 8). Titled “Lettermen,” the track serves as the single from the group’s forthcoming (and aptly titled) album, The Return, and features a guest verse from Reverie. True to Legends form, the cut rattles with rumbling bass, with a snippet of LL COOL J’s 1985 Radio single “Hard As Hell” tying it all together.

Speaking to AllHipHop.com, Luckyiam’s excitement was palpable. As he explains, “This summer we got a house in Coachella Valley, set up two studios for a week and went to work. Our fans deserve this and the world needs this. Once again it’s time to set the bar. Living Legends are back. This is the best album we have ever made.”

Aesop adds, “It was very tricky getting the whole crew together. Many of us have families now and live in different cities, so we decided to take sabbatical in Cochella and rented an AirBnB. We put multiple studios in the 10 rooms and vibed for a week. It was therapeutic to be in the same house again with my brothers while we collaborated on song ideas. We banged out enough songs for two albums.”

Naturally, Living Legends are plugging the release on Instagram as well, writing in the caption: “NEW MUSIC 9/8 LIVING LEGENDS are back with their lead single ‘LETTERMEN’ ft. REVERIE. Produced by TROX with cuts by DJ MIKE C. It’s officially LEGENDS SEASON!!!”

Formed in California circa 1995, Living Legends grew out of the Mystik Journeymen and evolved into an indie powerhouse thanks to their relentless hustle. In 2008, L.A. Weekly called them “one of the biggest success stories in the indie-rap movement” after selling more than 300,000 albums independently. The group has released numerous albums and EPs, including Angelz Wit Dirty Faces (2000), Almost Famous (2001) and Creative Differences (2004). In the process, they amassed a loyal fanbase that continues to rock with them nearly 30 years later.

But each member has, at one point, branched off to do their own thing. MURS signed with Strange Music and focused on his solo career, while Eligh and The Grouch did several projects under the G&E moniker and MURS and The Grouch ultimately connected for Thees Handz. In June 2022, the group finally reconvened for a single called “LLXL” featuring Eli-Mac. It was the first, real tangible taste of what Living Legends was cooking up, which ultimately led to three more.

“Some of us got kids now, all of us got bars still,” The Grouch said at the time. “We’re all blessed to all be here and I’m trying to enjoy time and music with my guys for as long as that’s the case.”

Living Legends are preparing to hit the road as part of the annual How The Grouch Stole Xmas Tour, which kicks off on November 29 in Seattle with Brother Ali. The Return is scheduled for a September 29 release. While we wait, find all things Legends here.

Chris “Mr Trap Jazz” Moten, Devon Stixxx & Cassius Jay Talk ‘Trap Jazz’ Docu-Film On HULU

If this is your first time hearing the words Trap Jazz together, then look no further than the new docu-film by the same name, premiered exclusively on HULU.

While it may seem like a genius idea to fuse both the genres of trap and jazz, there’s actually so much more that goes on behind closed doors. While trap jazz is deeply founded in the power of music, it also speaks volumes to one’s ability to rise from the trials and tribulations of life, and turn their failures into successes.

The overall message? Don’t ever give up on your dreams.

Trap Jazz is the band consisting of founder Chris Moten, world-renowned drummer Devon Stixxx, and Grammy-winning producer Cassius Jay. All three are born and raised in Atlanta, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that they’re the best of friends.

Presented by Black multi-media platform Andscape and HULU, the new film chronicles the making of Trap Jazz, following these three classically–trained musicians into the studio as they highlight the beauty in the collaborative process. Of course, with every success story comes unwavering passion, endless hours of hard work, and a desire to shift the culture in a positive way — and that’s exactly what Trap Jazz embodies.

AllHipHop had the chance to speak with Chris, Devon, and Cassius, at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, just one day prior to their performance and screening.

AllHipHop: Can we get some background on yourself and your most notable projects?

Chris Moten: I’m from Atlanta. Raised in Decatur, Georgia, the Eastside of Atlanta. After I graduated high school, I went to Clark Atlanta. Studied music there, worked on my technical ability. Learned how to read, write, score. Started playing with the jazz orchestra there, then kind of dropped out because I wanted to tour and travel with celebrities. I was already ready for it. I started with J. Holiday, worked my way all the way up to Jay Z. Kelly Rowland, Mariah Carey, Usher, Joe Jonas, Britney Spears. Toured with them for years as a music director.

I was a part of the band, but my job was the music director. The one who arranged the music, wrote the music for the live show. When people come out and see a live performance, they expect something different than what they heard on the album. That was my job to create this new experience for them, that’s not just listening to the album. You got the skits and all the segways. My job is to make them come together visually and musically together.

I became notable for that, that’s what people knew me for doing. I stopped doing that because it wasn’t the direction I wanted to go in anymore. I wanted to have my own voice, my own lane, my own style of music that I could leave here before I pass away. It was serious for me to start it very soon, so I stopped playing with celebrities. As far as traveling with them, I still work with them.

I started Trap Jazz in 2015 in Atlanta. I started it by myself, with no one else. I brought in Cassius, world-renowned producer, and Devon Stixxs Taylor, a world-renowned drummer. He’s like me, toured with all the celebrities. Played for everybody, one of the best drummers in the world. Cassius is one of the best producers in the world. I’ve known them both since they were 16. I went back and said y’all are the the best musicians, the best producer that I know. I should ya’ll into it because I think y’all would understand it.

Not only that, but we already had a great relationship. We already had a good personal friendship, so I thought that it’d be good for us for life. Bringing them into it was really crazy because since that, everything has happened because of that reason. Because we all came together. I think it would’ve been totally different if we hadn’t done it this way. But doing it this way, I don’t think we could’ve created this scenario without us coming together like we did.

We all had different journeys, all had different successes and accomplishments separately. But together, we’ve done something that we’ve never done before. So that’s been great.

AllHipHop: What is Trap Jazz?

Chris Moten: Trap Jazz is the community, the neighborhood, the hood, the streets. The pain, the struggle, everything that you go through in the hood. Not saying that it’s only for people from the hood. It’s still the pain, struggle, and conflicts of life, mixed with the medicine or therapy of music, to be able to overcome it. Or to be able to cope with it or deal with it. Even at the end of the day, listen to your favorite song or album or artist. It could be music or entertainment, it could be painting or archery or anything like that.

Trap Jazz is all of that together. It’s the pain, the struggle and the success, all wrapped up in one. It’s Hip Hop music from way back in the day, but it’s trap music because it’s today. That’s the whole Hip Hop part of it. That’s the trap side.

The jazz is the sophistication from the early 1900’s, from 1800’s blues, from slave music and all of that. That’s the jazz part of it. It’s not just the jazz that you know from your era of music. I always tell people: no matter if you’re 70, 50, 30, or 10, you have the jazz that you know of, and our jazz is all of that. From the 1800’s to now, we’re trying to incorporate every sound, every feeling. We try to incorporate all of the new Hip Hop sounds along with old Hip Hop sounds.

It’s just not the music, it’s the culture. It’s the family, it’s your friends. It’s the loved ones, it’s all of that together.

AllHipHop: What is your involvement with the genre? You’re the founder?

Chris Moten: Yeah, I created Trap Jazz in 2015. I created the word, then I established the sound by bringing certain people into the umbrella of Trap Jazz. But I’m proud to be the creator of Trap Jazz.

AllHipHop: What are you most excited for with the film coming out?

Chris Moten: I’m excited for the new platform, the new level, the new journey that we’re going to embark on. It’s something that I’ve never done in my life before, as a musician. We’ve always been with celebrities, but we don’t always get a chance to be heard individually. Our own voice. We always accompany a singer or a performer, we never get a chance to do our own thing. The movie is allowing us to have a broader platform for people to listen to us.

AllHipHop: Who is Trap Jazz for?

Every single person in the world, and aliens too. If they can hear Trap Jazz, it’s for them too. Because every human being can identify with crisis and pain, the struggle, and what it means to come out of that on top.

AllHipHop: Can we get some background on yourself and your most notable projects?

Cassius Jay: I’m Cassius Jay. I’ve produced for Cardi B, “came through drippin’.” Got a Grammy from that. Who else? Future, Young Thug, Peewee Longway, Bankroll Fresh, Young Dolph. I’m known for being with Zaytoven. Zaytoven is the godfather, he’s the one who brought me to the game.

AllHipHop: How did you guys meet?

Cassius Jay: We met at church. He’s a church boy, I’m a church boy. Then we started producing together, became the best of friends. He started taking me around Gucci, Jeezy, Migos, all his people. I started producing for all of them.

AllHipHop: What is Trap Jazz?

Cassius Jay: Trap Jazz is a genre of jazz music and Hip-Hop trap music combined together. You got Chris that does a lot of jazz, him and Stixxx. Then you got me and Stixxx that’s doing all the trap. We mixed two of the sounds and became Trap Jazz, a very poly-sound that’s never been heard.

AllHipHop: What’s your involvement with the creation of the genre?

Cassius Jay: Chris brought me the idea, I went straight to the studio and started working. I created the whole vibe, but Chris is the one creating all the jazz and all the licks. Chris had the idea, but I made the idea come true. That’s what a producer does. Somebody tells you, “I’m gonna write a song.” It’s up to the producer to produce that song. They told me the idea, and I produced that b####.

AllHipHop: What’re you most excited for with the film coming out?

Cassius Jay: I’m excited about seeing Chris shine. I’m excited about seeing Mr. Trap Jazz get his time, his spotlight, his flowers. Chris has been working so hard, so I’m excited to see him get a lot of attention. See his dream that he thought of become a reality. That’s one of the main things I’m excited about with this film, for people to really get to know Chris.

AllHipHop: Who is Trap Jazz for?

Cassius Jay: It’s for everybody. It’s for the older people that like jazz music, that’s mellow. It’s for young people who like to shake their ass and twerk. It’s for people that don’t even like words, they just like the beats. Trap Jazz is for everybody.

AllHipHop: Can we get some background on yourself and your most notable projects?

Devon Stixx: My name is Devon Stixxx Taylor, from Atlanta, Georgia born and raised. A lot of people may know me from playing with Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige. I’m currently on the road right now with Usher, at his Vegas residency.

AllHipHop: That’s epic! What’s been the highlight from that?

Devon Stixx: Aw man, the whole show. It’s different every day. It’s been great. All the celebrities, friends and family, everybody’s been coming through. The energy has been impeccable.

AllHipHop: What is Trap Jazz?

Devon Stixx: Trap Jazz is my band, my brother’s band, all of our bands. We’re infusing two different genres of music together, which is Trap and Jazz. We didn’t want to just play regular standard jazz music that younger musicians and a lot of people they wouldn’t understand. At our shows, we want people to be able to dance and have fun. Not just sit down and when we get done, clap for 30 seconds like we’re in a recital. [claps] We decided to infuse both of our favorite genres of music, which is Trap and Jazz together. That’s what Trap Jazz is.

AllHipHop: What is your involvement with the creation of the genre?

Devon Stixx: I helped come up with some of the arrangements, alongside Chris Moten and and Cassius Jay. It’s all three together.

AllHipHop: What’re you most excited for with the film coming out?

Devon Stixx: I’m so excited for people to see our story. For my kids, all my fans and my friends to see the legacy that we’re starting, that we’re creating. I’m happy that the story’s coming out because hopefully we can change somebody’s life and encourage the little kid, or anybody that’s making music. No matter how old you are, you can make it. Can’t nobody tell you that you can’t do anything.

We come from a lot of different backgrounds, especially church. We come from the struggle, just like everybody else. But you don’t have to be out there doing nothing stupid to get money or be successful. You don’t need all that s###.

AllHipHop: Who is Trap Jazz for?

Devon Stixx: Trap Jazz for everybody. It doesn’t matter what age, what ethnicity, how old you are, what background you come from. Whether you come from church, you come from classical, you go from standard jazz or traditional jazz, it doesn’t matter. Hip-Hop, R&B, it’s for everybody.

Slain Canadian Battle Rapper Pat Stay Honored With Hometown Mural

A year after Pat Stay’s tragic murder, the esteemed battle rapper is still being remembered and honored by those who loved and respected the Canadian artist. Earlier this week, a mural in Stay’s honor was unveiled in his hometown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, a (hopefully) permanent memorial to his legacy.

“The Hip-Hop scene in Halifax, with graffiti and murals kind of going with that, he was the king of it,” Mike Burt, an artist with Trackside Studios, explained. “He was world-renowned. Put our city on the map because he’s a legend.”

The team of artists from Trackside Studios, a nearby studio renowned for their expertise in graffiti and murals, was commissioned to contribute to the tribute project.

The mural, located in Dartmouth Cove, was officially revealed during the Labor Day weekend, with attendance from both family members and devoted fans. A powerful black-and-white portrait of Stay featuring his gaze directed upward now watches over Halifax Harbour.

Stay—who made his name battling on stages like King of the Dot, Rare Breed Entertainment and the Ultimate Rap League (where he did his final performance on Drake’s “Til Death Do Us Part” card)—was killed during a stabbing incident in downtown Halifax on September 4, 2022. He was only 36 years old.

The person who allegedly stabbed him is 32-year-old Adam Joseph Drake. He’s currently facing charges of first-degree murder in connection with this case, and his trial is scheduled to commence later this month.

Lil Durk Sued By Family Who Says Their Kid Was Injured During Concert Stampede

Lil’ Durk has reportedly been named in a personal injury lawsuit alleging he’s responsible for a young boy getting trampled in a crowd surge during one of his recent concerts.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the minor, who’s only identified as J.S. on the complaint, by his father Marcus Sloss on August 18. Sloss has hired attorney Daniel J. Biederman Jr. to represent the family’s interest in this potentially contentious case, according to Cook County Record.

Named as defendants along with the Chicago rapper are: United Center Joint Venture; At Your Service LLC and Live Nation Entertainment, iHeartMedia + Entertainment.

Biedermar is hoping to secure for the Sloss damages of at least $50,000 for medical expenses, plus court costs and legal fees. He’s also asked for a trial by jury.

As previously reported by AllHipHop.com, during the “All My Life” artist’s performance at the 107.5 WGCI Summer Jam concert held at the United Center, many believed someone was shooting which caused people to run frantically for the doors. The boy was allegedly trampled during the panic.

J.S. attended the concert with his aunt and when the melee popped off, the two attempted to exit onto the concourse but ran into an even more frightened crowd.  The boy was allegedly knocked over or pushed to the ground and then trampled by the terrified crowd. Eventually, J.S. and his aunt were able to hide in a freezer area thanks to some concession workers as noted in the lawsuit.

But that didn’t last long. They were kicked out by other workers who “wished them luck getting to their car safely.” Despite the rumor and the panic, there was no active shooter.

Defendants are being accused of multiple counts of negligence for their alleged mishandling of supposedly false reports of an active shooter on site. The lawsuit submits by not handling the panic properly, people were hurt.

Halle Bailey On Dating DDG: “This Is My First Deep, Deep, Real Love”

The romantic relationship between Halle Bailey and DDG has caused a lot of controversy in recent years. However, Bailey seems committed to the YouTuber/rapper.

Cosmopolitan magazine recently conducted an interview with Halle Bailey in which she briefly discussed her current feelings about DDG.

“Love has been a really big one for me too, because that’s something I’m experiencing for the first time, and it’s, like, ‘Whoa’ in your brain. It’s just fireworks, a spark for creativity,” Bailey said.

The Little Mermaid star added, “You know, you have puppy love experiences, you think that’s love. But this is my first deep, deep, real love.”

In 2022, many of Halle Bailey’s fans called for her to break up with DDG for his comments about racism being over. Insecure cast member Amanda Seales even publicly called on Bailey to part ways with her boyfriend.

“I thought that was lame,” DDG said in response to Seales’s suggestion. “I don’t even know who that is, and that’s not no disrespectful s###, I genuinely do not know who that woman is.”

The “Moonwalking in Calabasas” performer also fired back, “41? What the f##k? At your big age? That’s how you’re talking about a 24-year-old and a 22-year-old dating.”

Earlier this year, DDG got into a back-and-forth online with his ex-girlfriend, rapper/model Rubi Rose. He even released a track titled “Way Too Petty” that referenced his issues with Rose.

In addition, some social media users called out DDG for referring to Crazy In Love reality show stars Blueface and Chrisean Rock as “relationship goals.” Despite their partnership becoming regular headline news, DDG and Halle Bailey presently appear to be moving forward together.

Halle Bailey dropped her Theron “Neffy” Feemster-produced solo single “Angel” on August 4. The Atlanta-raised singer/songwriter is also preparing for the release of The Color Purple movie remake in December.

Juicy J Claims “GMA” Blocked Him From Wearing A Straitjacket On TV

Jordan “Juicy J” Houston III is on a media run to promote his new book Chronicles of the Juice Man: A Memoir. The 48-year-old rapper/producer stopped by Good Morning America this week.

According to Juicy J, Good Morning America prevented him from wearing a straitjacket on the television show. He spoke about the changes to his GMA appearance during an interview with TMZ.

“I’m a mental health advocate. I wear that straitjacket to let people know about mental health awareness. You don’t have to do nothing crazy. Get some help. Call 988, call a friend, call your mom, call somebody. Just don’t hurt yourself,” said Juicy J.

The Three 6 Mafia member also added, “I just did Good Morning America. They didn’t want me to wear the jacket. But it’s all good. It wasn’t no problem. I wasn’t tripping. That’s why I brought other outfits.”

In addition to releasing Chronicles of the Juice Man, Juicy J continues to create his own projects and produce songs for other artists. The Academy Award winner’s The Hustle Continues album came out in November 2020.

Juicy also let loose the Mental Trillness mixtape in March. Over the last year, he worked with Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Sexyy Red on music, too. The “Stay Fly” hitmaker recently acknowledged other acts reimagining tunes by his legendary group.

“Peace & love to Three 6 Mafia, great to witness our music still going strong like it never [left], people across the world sampling & remaking the songs. We are grateful. Thank you all. #greatestgroupofalltime,” posted Juicy J.

Curren$y’s OG Purp Plug Helped Link Chevy Woods & Wiz Khalifa To Start Taylor Gang

New York’s Grand Marshal of Marijuana—better known as Shiest Bubz—has fearlessly staked his claim as one of the founding connections between Curren$y, Chevy Woods and Wiz Khalifa and the mobilizing of said forces that created the “Taylor Gang.”

During a recent podcast appearance, Shiest Bubz, who’s a well-known cannabis entrepreneur and founder of The Smoker’s Club, spoke about the crossover between the wide worlds of weed and Hip-Hop. Throughout the conversation, Bubz spoke on his relationships with artists such as Method Man and Redman and more specifically, Curren$y and Wiz Khalifa.

“When I first met Spitta right, at that time I had the Purple Sour,” Bubz recalled. “And it was like on camera, me first meeting him. And I was kind of on some like, ‘Yeah Purple Sour,’ and he was like, ‘Oh you the Pumpkin King man h########,’ and it was just like, to go on tour with him—they Louisiana and my mother is from Louisiana so we had a connection on some family vibes some Southern vibes.”

In short, Bubz touched on how his elite strain tastemaking forged new pathways for collaboration between artists such as Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa and Chevy Woods like never before.

“The whole Jet Life, they are like Harlem—New Orleans and Harlem is like a connection to me, I don’t know,” Bubz said. “Spitta and Wiz together it was like, it was dope because I knew Wiz from Pittsburgh on some trapping s###. Taking the piff out there. Chevy was part of a whole different rap group back then he was called Kev The Hustla so I used to be f###ing with them n ####s on some Llama avenue s###, bringing the piff out there—Dipset and all that.”

Bubz continued, remarking on the moment he says tides shifted and Chevy and Wiz joined forces and never looked back. “Real talk, the conversation back then was like, ‘Yo Wiz he’s on some other vibes on the other side of town,’ and I’m like ‘Word, I should link him, like, why y’all don’t f### with him, what are y’all doing?’ and next thing you know it’s Chevy Woods and Wiz Khalifa and I’m like, ‘Yeah!'”

I mean, there literally are videos chronicling smoke sessions between notorious Hip-Hop potheads such as Bubz, Curren$y and Smoke DZA dating back more than a decade, so it’s not hard to believe he may have had some influence on this link initially. Curren$y and Fendi P shared the same manager, Mousa, before coming together and forging the Jet Life label and lifestyle brand, so why wouldn’t Chevy and Wiz share the same weedman before coming together to create bangers?

03 Greedo, who 1090 Jake recently accused of snitching, saw the post and clowned the blogger.

“D###### n####,” he wrote in the No Jumper comment section. “He got a lot to say. He should ghostwrite on my album.”

Back in July, 1090 Jake posted documents, allegedly paperwork of 03 Greedo snitching in his case. However, the recently freed rapper said that he did all of his time in prison on gun and drug charges, proving he didn’t tell. He also questioned the alleged paperwork, pointing out they are a police report and not official court documents.

“So you want me to believe that a n#### that got probation while I got five years, I told on him?” he asked during an Instagram Live session.

“So that’s police report,” he added in an Instagram Story post. “Real or fake that’s not paperwork. U know u done fucced up don’t u.”

Yung Bleu Publicly Apologizes To His Wife For Cheating Scandal

Yung Bleu has been in the news more frequently in recent weeks, facing accusations of cheating on his wife. A TikToker who goes by Tenom exposed Yung Bleu for flying her out to New York for a date. In response, the Love Scars II rapper claimed he never had sex with the woman because of her personal hygiene.

The entire ordeal led to Yung Bleu’s spouse, Tiemeria, suggesting a divorce from the recording artist was imminent. Bleu took to social media to offer Tiemeria a public mea culpa.

“I would like to publicly apologize to my wife,” Bleu posted. “I will never get on the internet and bash you no matter what you say out of hurt. [You’re] such a good woman. Solid. Rare. And I love and appreciate you.”

The 29-year-old entertainer continued, “It’s a lot that this industry [brings]. [It’s] a fast life. And sometimes as men, we fall short of what’s right! But I’ll never be stupid enough to lose what’s best for me!”

Spice Questions Backlash Over Erica Mena Spat: ”It’s Okay To Receive Racism As Long As You’re Angry?”

Spice has opened up about the confrontation that got Erica Mena fired from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta for calling the Jamaican Dancehall artist a “monkey.”

In a recent episode, the reality TV stars got into it during a verbal spat. Erica Mena flipped a table after Spice claimed that her son does not like his own mother.

“You monkey, you f###### blue monkey!” Mena fired back at the blue-haired musician.

After clips of the on-air altercation surfaced, many called out Erica Mena for using a term rooted in racism, and she was soon fired.

“The Love & Hip Hop franchise has never shied away from hard conversations in our community,” the franchise announced earlier this week.

The statement continued: “Viewers will see the impact of Erica Mena’s remarks play out in the final three episodes of the season. Effective immediately, she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.”

Spice Says Backlash Over Erica Mena Rooted in Colorism

However, Spice also received backlash over the spat for mentioning Erica Mena’s child. She addressed the criticism during an Instagram Live Tuesday evening. During the stream, she questioned whether racism was an acceptable response to being triggered.

“I’m not being ignorant; I’m not playing victim,” Spice began. “I am taking full accountability because you said I experienced the racism because I triggered her. So, is that a new thing now in 2023? It’s okay to receive racism as long as you’re angry? I’m just asking. Feel free to let me know.”

She also pointed to her 2018 single “Black Hypocrisy,” created to draw attention to the issue of colorism within the Black community. She promoted the single by posting images of herself with considerably lighter skin.

Spice claimed she would not have garnered the backlash over the Erica Mena situation if she were lighter-skinned. She shared an image of her with an ivory tone to highlight her point.

“If I looked like this then some of the Black people who are commenting that it’s okay would not be saying what they’re saying,” Spice continued. “You can play hypocrite if you want.” Check out the IG Live below.

Janet Jackson Responds To Accusations She Shaded Nicki Minaj

After sharing a seemingly harmless photo on social media, Janet Jackson found herself on the receiving end of some criticism from Nicki Minaj’s devoted fanbase, The Barbz.

On Tuesday (September 5), the R&B icon shared a throwback photo of herself in an oversized white coat alongside a popular gif of a young Marsai Martin from Blackish putting on a pair of shades.

She captioned the photo “#fashhhionn.” Check it out below.

However, some users believed the post was an attack on Nicki Minaj. The “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” hitmaker recently unveiled one of the album covers for her upcoming Pink Friday 2 album. The image features Minaj wearing a white jacket.

That and the sassy gif was enough for the stans to go off on Janet Jackson for the perceived Nicki Minaj hate.

Nonetheless, the replies were littered with responses defending Jackson over the seemingly harmless posts.

“I need the Barbz under this tweet and in the quotes to TOUCH GRASS,” one person wrote. “What would make you think JANET JACKSON was making any reference to Nicki? A white coat??? Chile.”

Janet Jackson soon caught wind of the fuss and responded to a fan who noted the musical legend was showing off her fashion credentials.

“It’s a shame that people want to pit one artist against another,” Jackson replied. She also liked Minaj’s post of the album cover featuring the white coat.

Nicki Minaj Responds To Janet Jackson

For her part meanwhile, Nicki Minaj detected no shade and paid tribute to Janet Jackson. “Icon. Legend. Royalty,” she wrote before calling the legendary singer “The original definition of #ICanBeAllTheWayCoveredItsSTILLgivingSEXY.”

Many others refused to believe Janet Jackson shaded Nicki Minaj with her post. Check out some other responses below.
