Ashanti Felt Like An Outsider Because Of Her African Name

Ashanti felt like an outsider growing up due to her unique name.

In an interview with E! News, the singer, whose mother named her after the Ashanti Empire in Ghana, discussed how it wasn’t always easy to have an unconventional moniker at school.

“Growing up having a very unique name, there were moments. I remember there was circle time, and the teacher would call out names. The kids would go, ‘Why doesn’t her name sound like this or that?'” she recalled.

However, Ashanti has channeled her experiences into a children’s book titled “My Name Is A Story.” The book celebrates the power of names and individuality and is now available to purchase.

“I want this to resonate with kids who don’t necessarily have a unique name, so they know not to make fun of a person that has a unique name and to know it’s okay if that name doesn’t sound familiar to you,” the star continued. “Don’t make fun of it. Embrace it.”

And Ashanti noted that having a memorable name benefitted her as an adult while pursuing a career in music.

“When I would go for my auditions – and I had three failed records deals, so it wasn’t easy – the one thing people liked is that I had one name,” she smiled.

Xzibit Hiding $20 Million In Cash And Playing Broke, So Says His Estranged Wife

Xzibit is far from the broke, downtrodden husband he’s presenting himself to be, according to his estranged wife.

Xzibit and his soon-to-be ex-wife Krista are going through a nasty divorce. Last week, news broke that the rapper had fallen on tough times and could not afford to pay the spousal support Krista is demanding.

To complicate the divorce, Xzibit claimed Krista was living in their mansion with her new boyfriend, who was ripping his plaques off the walls and shooting a pilot for his new show inside their plush residence.

Xzibit also claimed Krista was a scammer who illegally signed his name on a document to get a new Bentley, which was eventually repossessed because the rapper couldn’t keep up with the payments.

Krista just filed new documents, claiming Xzibit is full of it- and full of cash.

According to Krista, Xzibit is swimming in money. He supposedly earns over $1 million a month through his various cannabis businesses.

However, the rapper doesn’t keep the cash in his bank accounts. According to Krista, Xzibit has a massive fortune in cold hard cash locked away in various safes around California.

The rapper’s chatty cousin supposedly told Krista he knows that Xzibit has at least $20 million stored in the various vaults.

And the cousin claims he has first-hand knowledge since he brings Xzibit his cash on demand.

Krista is accusing Xzibit of lying to the court, so he doesn’t have to cut her huge spousal support checks every month.

She also maintains that she recently lost her job and cannot financially support her and Xzibit’s young son. Krista claims Xzibit is so cheap that he refuses to pay for his son’s inhalers or haircuts.

Krista could very well be onto something regarding Xzibit’s marijuana businesses.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Xzibit and his business partner Dr. Dre emerged victorious in a 4-year lawsuit over their cannabis business, Brass Knuckles.

Two stakeholders in the business claimed Xzibit and Dre undervalued their shares in the company, which the pair claimed was worth about $50 million.

The lawsuit claimed that, in reality, Brass Knuckles was worth an astronomical $170 million.

Krista filed for divorce from Xzibit in February of 2021. According to the court docs, the divorce war is just heating up.

The Weeknd May End Up Starring In His Own Musical

The Russo Brothers have floated the idea of working with The Weeknd on a musical.

While promoting their new movie “The Gray Man” in a video for Rolling Stone, the filmmaking siblings revealed that they have reached out to the “Starboy” singer about a concept for the potential project.

“In fact, we were talking to a few contemporary artists, including The Weeknd, about trying to get a musical off the ground,” explained Joe Russo. “I’d love to work with someone who wants to do an experimental musical. I thought what he did during his Super Bowl show was awesome. I’d love to see that as a movie.”

The filmmakers got their start in Hollywood with the comedies “Welcome to Collinwood” and “You, Me and Dupree” before joining the MCU and becoming known for their superhero movies, including “Avengers: Endgame.”

Since they left the Marvel world, the Russos have made the 2021 crime drama “Cherry” and the new action thriller “The Gray Man.” In addition to their musical ambitions, the Russos would also love to make a horror.

“I’d love to do a horror film. I feel like we talk about movies constantly, but that’s because we’re film fans – we grew up loving movies,” Joe added.

“The Gray Man,” starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas, is now showing in cinemas and debuted on Netflix on Friday (July 22nd).

Rapper Invites Killers To His Home And They Accept The Invite Completely

Yoooo!!!

You know, some of these rappers are a different kind of dumb. This may sound cold and callous, but it needs to be said and it needs to be said in a frank and honest way. We are doing too much stupid stuff, especially on social media for all to see.

Social media has totally gotten the game twisted. There have always been killers in Hip-Hop and there are more now than there were back in the day. I think that the bigger issue is that people are more willing to put all of their foolishness on front street. So, maybe they are just more out in the open now than then.

A young rapper put on social media that he was going home and that if anybody has smoke he invited them to his house. He specifically gave them the timeframe in which he would be there. He said in five minutes he will be at his house. And they pulled up. “A lot of these n***as [know] where I live at fr. I sleep in peace. If a n***a want smoke I’m at my crib in 5 mins,” he said.

Unfortunately, for Rollie Bands…they were following him closely. He was shot and killed outside of his apartments a mere moments after that invitation. He truly made a big mistake. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reportedly responded to the shooting of the Tampa, FL artist getting gunned down. His friends or people near took him to a hospital before the cops arrived. Sadly, Rollie Bands died in the hospital.

I don’t know anything about this young dude. And I wish him a safe passage to heaven. However, it really feels like he’s made a critical mistake in judgment and it resulted in his death. I hope that at some point in the near future, young rappers will understand that these are trying times and people will kill you.

Here’s to Rollie Bands.

Snoop Dogg Rep Looking Forward To Disproving Jane Doe’s Latest Claims

Snoop Dogg’s accuser has re-filed her sexual assault lawsuit against him three months after dismissing the case, and the rapper is ready to fight.

A spokesperson for the “Gin and Juice” rapper said the updated lawsuit was “meritless” and “riddled with and predicated upon falsehoods and inaccuracies” and said he was looking forward to disproving the allegations.

“It follows Jane Doe’s attorney’s voluntarily dismissing just a few months ago her previous complaint on the alleged matter. He also dismissed an earlier complaint – this is the third try. Snoop Dogg looks forward to proving the falsity of these allegations,” a rep for the rapper told Radar.

The alleged victim – referred to as Jane Doe – filed a lawsuit against the rapper and his associate, pimp-turned-Christian minister Bishop Don’ Magic’ Juan, in February, claiming they both forced her to give them oral sex in 2013.

In April, she dropped the case “without prejudice,” meaning she could re-file it later, and she did so earlier this week by re-filing the lawsuit in a Los Angeles federal court.

“We have obtained new information which we believe adds significant credibility and corroboration to the alleged scheme of Defendants and the alleged acts they took against my client and others,” Doe’s attorney, Matt E.O. Finkelberg, told the Los Angeles Times via email on Thursday.

“We believe that this new information stated in the complaint, which includes details of what allegedly happened to other alleged victims, including an alleged attempted rape against an alleged victim by Defendant Snoop Dogg, is important and demonstrates how serious our claims are,” Finkelberg said.

The updated filing includes the sexual assault, sexual battery, and sex-trafficking claims from the original and new allegations of defamation, infliction of emotional distress, and unlawful retaliation in violation of California labor codes.

Lizzo Will Never Be A Token Big Girl

Lizzo is determined not to become the “token big girl” in the fashion world.

In an interview for ELLE U.K.’s September 2022 issue, the ‘About Damn Time” hitmaker discussed her work as a body image activist.

But while Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, is making waves in the clothing industry with her size-inclusive shapewear line, Yitty, she believes there is still a long way to go when it comes to diversity and inclusivity in fashion.

“I’ve had a lot of shoots with people making outfits from scratch for me. And I’m not mad at it. Thank you. But what about the millions of people who are my size or bigger who can’t get access to chic and glamorous clothing?” she asked. “I don’t want to be the token big girl for the fashion world. I want to open the door. I want this for everybody.”

And even though Lizzo could have created a fashion collection, she had a reason for starting her venture into the industry with shapewear and underwear.

“More than any piece of clothing, shapewear can make people feel ways about their bodies and, most of the time, it’s bad. I want to revolutionize shapewear. I want to change how people think when they hear the word ‘snatched.’ I don’t want people to ever have to deal with a girdle again in their lives,” the 34-year-old added.

Georgia Rapper Junt Sosa Building Momentum With Motivational Single “Empty”

LaGrange, Georgia rapper Junt Sosa doesn’t pretend to be anything he’s not.

Recently Rap fans got a new single from Georgia-based rapper Junt Sosa titled, “Empty.” Hailing from La Grange, Georgia nestled between Atlanta and Birmingham, Alabama Junt Sosa brings a raw and authentic Southern-style that shows his music is about way more than the typical recount of life in the streets.

Building his buzz out of the self-described Trap County, Junt Sosa has been making music since high school and continued his pursuit of rap throughout his time behind bars. But ever since his release from prison he’s had a new reformed message for fans that doesn’t attack how they’re living, because he’s been there too.

“I did 39 months in prison, I came back just like Gucci with a whole other mindset.  Look different. Think different. Move different. Be different. I saw the next man and it didn’t really look good on him. He wasn’t as strong as I was. I just be trying to save the next lil bro from going to do some sh*t that I went through. But I’m still that same n####. LIke ain’t nothing changed but the mindset and the way I want s### to go for my people,” Junt Sosa said.

A rejuvenated Junt Sosa is led by his new single “Empty” which is approaching 100k plays in just a month’s time and has been connecting deep down with fans that attempt to tackle their own personal challenges in life.

“The song Empty means a lot to me. I wrote that song when I was in a space where I was feeling alone by myself. It’s a lot of times when I’m feeling like I’m by myself, but I have help and I have supporters, I have people who are really there for me. But it’s like even though they’re there for me, it’s like my role is empty because things in my life ain’t as complete as I want them to be,” Junt Sosa said.

Soulja Boy Goes Off On Charleston White After Getting Sprayed With Mace During Confrontation

Rapper Soulja Boy was recently assaulted by social media breakout influencer Charleston White.

The “She Make It Clap” chart-topper has taken to social media and commented on the incident.

A video of the incident leaked to the internet. It seemed as though the rapper pulled up on the influencer and got maced in the face.

A post shared by Say Cheese TV 👄🧀 (@saycheesetv)

Soulja Boy addressed it in a video on Instagram Live by first declaring that he didn’t want “no smoke with none of you n#####.”

“If I knew you were going to get on the Internet … talk all this gangster s### … all this crazy s### … and then reach in your girl purse and start spraying pepper spray in the air and then start running,” he would have never entertained the beef, the rapper declared.

According to the Atlanta native, who addressed the incident to his followers in back of a few stacks of money, White was “scary as hell.”

Allegedly, after being approached by Soulja and around ten of his friends, White grabbed the mace out of his girlfriend’s purse and started running.

About 6,200 people tuned in to hear another fantastical account from one of the best storytellers in the world: Big Draco.

He dramatically demonstrated White running “like it was a trail,” denying that he had 10 to 12 men with him when he approached.

Seemingly unfazed, Soulja Boy promoted his new album dropping on July 28th, the same day as his birthday.

Ice-T Was Shocked To Learn Show Business Was So “Fake” As Young Rapper

Ice-T was shocked to discover everything on a music video set was “fake” as a young rapper.

During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” actor recalled how he was stunned by the amount of deception when he started making videos following the release of his second album Power.

“The biggest thing that surprised me about music was you could lie. I mean, I was watching music videos, I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s their house. That’s their car. That’s their girl.’ Then when I got in there, like, ‘Oh, you can rent a car.’ ‘MTV Cribs,’ ‘You don’t have to have this house, we’ll put you in a house that’s not yours.’ I’m like, ‘This is all fake, you know.’ And I didn’t know that. And when I got in there, you know, I always had to use my own cars.”

Ice-T, real name Tracy Marrow, used the cover of his 1988 album Power as an example of how naïve he was about the industry.

He posed with his girlfriend at the time, Darlene Ortiz, and his own guns.

“That’s my son’s mom, Darlene, those are my guns, and that was my life at that time, you know? And, hey, I didn’t know you could lie. I was like, what?” the star recalled. “(On other music video sets) they’ll come and put jewelry on you for the video, and then take it back. Or you got all the girls in the jacuzzi, and their boyfriends are sitting right out of frame, waiting on them, like… So, I was coming from a real world, Steve. I didn’t know about this. Show business is so fake.”

Dancehall Queen Spice Turns Up All Summer With “Clap Clap”

Spice is turning up all summer long. Dubbed the Queen of Dancehall and a legend in her own right, the Jamaican recording artist returns today with her newest single and visual for “Clap Clap.” Per the title, this release serves as an official call to action: to act up, get your dance on, and spread the good vibrations.

Written by the Grammy-nominated artist herself, “Clap Clap” is paired with a cinematic visual, enlisting dancers dressed as flight attendants to turn up in front of the private jet. Directed by Honest Mykel, the three and a half minute music video sees Spice bringing the record to life with her standout green hair and baby pink fit. Of course, expect some ass throwing and twerking to accentuate the showstopping choreography.

“Clap Clap” arrives on the heels of Spice’s recent performance, shutting down Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The song also holds fans over until the release of Spice’s highly-anticipated new album titled Emancipated, arriving sometime in August via a newly formed independent partnership with Stealth Music Group/UnitedMasters.

Spice states, “I’m super elated for this new chapter in my life with Stealth / United Masters. I’m celebrating my first release being free after 10 years. My fans have been asking for new music and I’m so excited for them to enjoy ‘Clap Clap’. The song is full of life and energy and that’s what my fans need right now after being quarantined for so long.”

Also, Spice recently received a shoutout from the one and only Cardi B during an interview with Lip Service.

Kanye West Surprises Fans, Kid Cudi Storms Off Rolling Loud Stage After Getting Pelted By Bottles

Rolling Loud, one of the hottest festivals in the nation, started on Friday night in Miami, Florida, and was packed with all kinds of surprises.

One of the biggest surprises was when an unscheduled Kanye West took the stage during Lil Durk’s set. One of the biggest letdowns was the headliner— who was just selected a few days ago.

Rap music was in full swing as Chicago rapper G Herbo rocked the crowd, even at one point jumping into the audience to feel his fans’ love up close.

Harlemite A$AP Ferg also roamed the crowd as he ripped the mic after coming out to pyrotechnics lighting up the stage.

During the night, he and Playboi Carti performed together. The “Magnolia” hitmaker, dressed in all black and black eye make-up, also brought the house down, giving an electrifying show.

Singer/ Rapper Don Toliver added melody to the Hip-Hop fueled night, adding to the lineup in one of the most spectacular ways.

While most of the performances were great, the evening did have a low moment during the Kid Cudi show. Someone from the audience hit him in the face with a water bottle.

Feeling disrespected, he said,

“I will f###### leave. If I get hit with one more f###### thing — if I see one more f###### thing on this f–ing stage, I’m leaving,” he barked at the crowd. “Don’t f### with me.”

Kid Cudi was hit again. To add insult, the fans started to yell “Kanye” from the audience.

Cudi dropped the mic and left the stage, understandably emotional.

Lil Durk brought Ye out after Kid Cudi left the stage. No one was expecting Kanye West to be there. Originally, he was supposed to be the headliner but dropped off the line up little under a week ago.

Ye was later replaced by Kid Cudi — an artist that has been on the outs with Yeezy since the beginning of the year.

During his performance, he did a little of “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1” from his The Life of Pablo, a song that featured Cudi’s voice.

Check out how Durk, aka The Voice, put it down.

The world will see a Black and Filipino Belle!” the 25-year-old exclaimed. “I have always wanted to be a Disney princess, and I get to work with two wonderful directors Hamish Hamilton and my favorite, Jon M. “With her obvious extraordinary talent and stage presence, H.E.R. is the perfect embodiment of our Belle and we are thrilled for audiences to see her in this celebration of creativity,” added Chu. “We were both influenced as storytellers by the original animated movie, so it’s very exciting to collaborate together to honor the artistry of that timeless classic while also inspiring a whole new generation of creators.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of when Disney’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” became the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

The film went on to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while the theme song won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1992.

Kelly Rowland Still Upset Over Racist Sesame Street Incident

Kelly Rowland is still upset over a video showing two young Black girls being ignored by a character at a Sesame Street theme park and isn’t buying the park’s apology.

In a viral video last week, the Muppet character Rosita seemingly overlooks two young girls while high-fiving other visitors at Sesame Place in Philadelphia.

Kelly shared her shock and anger on her Instagram Stories, then doubled down with her rage while walking the red carpet at the “Nope” premiere in Los Angeles.

“I’m still upset,” Kelly told Entertainment Tonight. “I was livid. And I know, me personally, I would’ve burned the place down. I’ve said it before, and I really mean it.”

“Did you see that ridiculous apology that they had?” she added of the statement released by the park. “When I saw this, and it was an extension of what I grew up learning and loving about Sesame Street and Sesame Place, I don’t know what place this is that I saw. It made two beautiful little girls feel like they were just not there. I wasn’t trying to give it any more attention. I really wasn’t, but those little girls, they deserve an apology.”

In the apology, a park representative explained the employee “did not intentionally ignore the girls and is devastated about the misunderstanding.”

They added that the costumes could sometimes make it difficult for performers to see at lower levels.

Actor Wendell Pierce and actress Yvette Nicole Brown were among the other stars to speak out about the incident.

And now, it seems worse for Sesame Place since another new version of the video went viral yesterday (July 22nd).

Jordan Peele Denies He’s The Best Horror Director Of All-Time But Names This Top Pick

Jordan Peele has shut down the suggestion he’s the best horror director of all time.

The comedian made his feature directorial debut with the Oscar-winning horror “Get Out” in 2017 and followed it up with two more movies in the genre – the doppelgänger story “Us” in 2019 and his new UFO tale “Nope.”

Comic book creator Adam Ellis shared the Rotten Tomatoes ratings for all three of Peele’s movies – ranging from 88 percent fresh to 98 percent – and wondered if any other horror director had achieved such a feat.

“I know this is a hot take but at what point do we declare Jordan Peele the best horror director of all time? Can you think of another horror director that had 3 great films, let alone 3 in a row? I can’t,” he tweeted.

The message caught the attention of Jordan Peele, who shut down the claim and insisted that the title belonged to John Carpenter.

“Sir, please put the phone down I beg you,” Peele replied. “Sorry. I love your enthusiasm but I will just not tolerate any John Carpenter slander!”

Carpenter is known as one of the greatest filmmakers in the horror genre thanks to classic movies such as “Halloween,” “The Fog,” and “The Thing.”

Other users replied to the tweet suggesting that directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, Wes Craven, and David Cronenberg deserve the title.

Peele’s latest movie, “Nope,” starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun, is released in U.S. cinemas on Friday.

Legendary Rapper Turned Congressman Doitall Shares Advice Tupac Gave Him

New Jersey rapper-turned-politician Dupré “Doitall” Kelly from the Hip-Hop group Lords of the Underground recently became the first platinum-selling artist to be elected to public office after winning a seat in Newark’s city council this year.

On Friday, July 1st, he had his inauguration ceremony.

The “Chief Rocka” said this day was long-coming and reminded him of a conversation he had with Tupac before his premature death.

“I had a conversation with Tupac Shakur about this day. I wish he could be here to see me this day,” Councilman Kelly shared.

“Over 25 years ago, he and I had a conversation in an Orlando hotel room, and he said that we shouldn’t move from our cities, dude. He said, ‘We should come back and create nonprofits and create youth initiatives and youth programs. We might also need to do some things that we may not want, and that means running for office.'”

As reported by AllHipHop.com, rappers and music execs came out to support his candidacy, including Redman, Queen Latifah, KRS One, Naughty By Nature, Damon Dash, and countless other celebrities around the globe.

Councilman Kelly won the West Ward council seat by a margin of 1,858 to 1,312 — 58.6% to 41.4% — over Chigozie Onyema, 35, a lawyer and former state official.

A proud Shaw University alum, member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, and the founder of 211 Community Inc., the newly elected official is not hanging up his mic.

He has plans to release new music.

Doitall’s new album will be called the album Brenda’s Son, and he is currently starring in the feature film Respect The Jux, executive produced by Pusha T, starring Tony Sirico, Vado, Ciera Payton, and Tobias Truvillion.

Nicki Minaj hyped up her upcoming single with several posts on Twitter. She referred to herself as Nick James since “Freaky Girl” samples Rick James’ “Super Freak.”

Eminem’s Old Home To Become Sanctuary For Bees

Bees will be taking over Eminem’s childhood home.

According to the Detroit News, the nonprofit Detroit Hives is building a bee sanctuary where Eminem used to live. Slim Shady’s old stomping grounds will become the Dresden Pollinator Habitat.

“The new home will be built just like a beehive,” Detroit Hives co-founder Timothy Paule Jackson said. “We have to create a colony.”

Jackson and his fiancé Nicole Lindsey acquired the site of Eminem’s old home and two other lots for $3,000. The Detroit Hives directors made the purchases with aid from the Detroit Black Farmerland Fund.

The couple’s nonprofit seeks to transform vacant lots into urban bee farms.

“We have extra hives at several locations that we can relocate a colony and have those boxes ready (at Dresden) by middle of October,” Jackson said. “Most residents want to see flowers, a place kids can go up and down safe and free from trash and blight, and that’s what we want too.”

Eminem’s childhood home was featured on the cover of his 2000 album The Marshall Mathers LP. It was also used for the cover of his 2013 sequel The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

The State of Michigan demolished the house due to fire damage in 2013.
