N.O.R.E.: My Comments About Rappers Doing Non-Hip Hop Media Weren’t About Cardi B

Some of Cardi B’s fans had a problem with N.O.R.E.’s recent tweets. On Wednesday, the Drink Champs podcast host called out Hip Hop artists for doing interviews with Ellen DeGeneres and David Letterman.

“I have been the best to this culture I have always put Hip Hop first and I see [you] guys go to Ellen and [David Letterman] and [Zane Lowe] and treat them [with] more respect [than] the culture but [you] say [you] want Black excellence,” posted N.O.R.E. earlier this week.

Cardi B made a highly-publicized appearance on the latest season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. A few of the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker’s followers felt N.O.R.E.’s criticism was subtly directed at her.

“Love [I] wasn’t even talking or thinking bout Cardi but love the article,” tweeted N.O.R.E. in response to an AllHipHop.com write-up about his comments. He also added, “S### goes for all [artists]!!! Including me!!”

The native of Queens, New York returned to the social media platform to write, “I literally was not talking bout any artist especially any female artist I was talking bout our culture period we control what’s cool not the outsiders !!!”

N.O.R.E. then doubled down on his original stance. He tweeted, “I love [artists] but hate when artists are acting like artists and that’s such an artist of me ha ha!!!” The man formerly known as Noreaga also declared, “NOBODY IS F###### BIGGER [THAN] THE CULTURE NOBODY IS!!!”

Fellow emcee/podcaster Joe Budden weighed in on the discussion. Budden tweeted, “Just a humble servant of Hip Hop, it only helped raise me and teach me still to this day… N.O.R.E. hit a few points, a lot of [people] use it as [an] entryway and shed it soon as they can. Culture was never vying for acceptance, it was always MAKING them accept it, sadly that line is blurred.”

Isaiah Rashad Says He Identifies As Sexually Fluid

Isaiah Rashad became a social media trending topic in February after sexually explicit footage leaked to the internet. In the video, a man resembling the Top Dawg Entertainment emcee performs oral sex on another man.

Since that time, Isaiah Rashad had remained mostly quiet about the matter. He did refer to the situation during his set at the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.

Rashad decided to open up about the sex tape leak and his sexuality during a new interview with rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden. A clip from the conversation made its way to social media.

“I’d say I’m sexually fluid,” explained Isaiah Rashad. “I’m still learning about it myself. I’m putting my head in books to find out the basics of it. Basically, I’m not in full control of when I walk into a room, who I’m attracted to.”

The 31-year-old Chattanooga, Tennesse native went on to say, “I’m more attracted to a personality. I’m more attracted sometimes to the intellect, and sometimes it just being attracted to somebody.”

Isaiah Rashad Is Not The Only Non-Heterosexual Rap Star

Joe Budden also asked Isaiah Rashad when he first discovered he was sexually fluid. The House Is Burning album creator explained that realization happened over the last couple of years following several dating experiences.

Isaiah Rashad is the latest Hip Hop artist to publicly reveal his attraction to the same gender. “Old Town Road” hitmaker Lil Nas X famously came out as gay in June 2019 during LGBTQ Pride Month.

Chicago-bred rapper Taylor Bennett let the world know he identifies as bisexual in 2017. Openly gay performer Saucy Santana found success on TikTok with tracks such as 2020’s “Material Girl” and 2021’s “Here We Go.”

After the sex tape hit the internet earlier this year, Isaiah Rashad garnered support from his rap peers like Zoey Dollaz, Chuck Inglish, and CJ Fly. TDE President Terrence “Punch” Henderson Jr also stood up for Rashad against internet trolls.

Cardi B Apologizes For Comments About Politicizing Mass Shootings

Once again, recording artist Belcalis “Cardi B” Almánzar fermented some controversy online. The Invasion of Privacy album creator’s recent take on the Robb Elementary School shooting apparently upset some social media users.

On Thursday afternoon, Cardi B posted a reaction to the Uvalde, Texas massacre that took place on May 24. An 18-year-old gunman killed nineteen students and two teachers on that day. At least seventeen people were injured.

“These mass shooting events are not the time for political parties or you ‘social media politicians’ to be pushing agendas. People have died! Y’all don’t care or have any consideration for what these families are going thru or how they feel or what they want. Think b4 speak,” tweeted Cardi B.

After one person suggested she was placating left-leaning individuals Cardi replied, “Baby I don’t give a [f###] about liberal, conservative, Republican, democrats RIGHT NOW! I give a f### about the pain these [people’s families] are going through.”

Cardi B Offers An Apology For Offending Anyone

The 29-year-old entertainer returned to the platform to also add, “All mass shootings [are] a senseless act of violence due [to] the easy access of guns, I would never want to stop the conversation pushing for gun reform, I want it to, but comparing trauma because political views should not matter right now. Sorry to those who felt offended or hurt.”

Cardi B went on to specifically call out Fox News for apparently comparing two different mass shootings and the motivations behind the killings. She slammed the right-wing network for sounding “stupid and irrelevant and inconsiderate” in an attempt to “push their agendas.”

Many celebrities have weighed in on school safety, gun reform policies, and political figures since the tragic event in Uvalde. For example, R&B singer John Legend recently blasted Texas Senator Ted Cruz for his response to the Robb Elementary shooting.

M Huncho Blasts Fans For Ridiculing Overwhelmed 14-Year-Old Fan

M Huncho is calling out “weird” fans who made fun of a 14-year-old who became overwhelmed following a meeting with his favorite rapper.

Earlier this week, a video began circulating of the young fan meeting his idol. The boy breaks down as he explains he’s been listening to M Huncho since he was just ten years old. He becomes even more emotional when the rapper promises to hook him up with tickets for his tour. Check out the video below, shared by GRM daily.

However, the touching moment between the child and his idol was ridiculed by some on social media. M Huncho spoke out in defense of the kid and questioned why anyone had anything negative to say.

“Don’t understand why people have an opinion on a 14 year old who met me and was overwhelmed,” M Huncho penned on Twitter. “I don’t get it? This kid told me i saved his life…at that point I wonder what did I do or say to change the course of his life…but yet people on twitter want to have an opinion LOL.”

He further elaborated on why the meeting meant so much to him, as well as the boy. “Let me make it clear…plain and simple. I have more money than I’ve ever had followers or listeners. But this is what’s important to me more than anything else. Understanding that I bought a change into peoples lives.”

The “TrapWave” pioneer then explained his philanthropic contributions to anyone doubting his intentions.

“I’ve started working on multiple community projects in the borough of BRENT,” M Huncho declared. “Then we can take it across the whole of London. Don’t ever downplay my ting when I’m doing more for my community in my PRIVATE LIFE, than any of you opinionated peasants have in private or public.”

Finally, he doubled down with the tweet, “M############ weird as hell…”

Former G-Unit Artist Olivia Is Making A Comeback; Says There’s No Beef With 50 Cent

Olivia is making a comeback nearly two years after she first signed to G-Unit when she released hits like “Candy Shop” with 50 Cent.

She left the label in 2017, just three years after being signed amid “a bunch of politics,” as she explained to AllHipHop in 2009. However, despite rumors of a beef, Olivia says the pair are currently on good terms.

“We are all good,” Olivia explained to The Jasmine Brand. “People have to understand the type of person he is, being that he’s a cancer, it’s just in his personality. But when we see each other, everything is fine…We saw each other a couple years ago, and it was all love. We reconnected again this year, all fine, so it’s never any bad blood.”

During a 2014 interview with The Breakfast Club, Olivia accused 50 Cent of becoming angry with her after hearing she was recording music with Missy Elliot alongside her G-Unit records. However, later that same year, Fiddy told the outlet that her relationship with Missy contributed to her departure for altogether different reasons.

“I didn’t have no problems. Missy started hitting it, if you really want to know. See, it’s [Olivia’s] fault for actually saying that to you,” he said.

Nonetheless, Olivia admitted she never tires of questions surrounding her G-Unit past. “It’s a great part in history and I was honored to be a part of it,” she said. “We were a big part of the 2003, 2004, ’05, ’06, ’07 era, so I will never be mad or upset with anybody asking those questions.”

Olivia Is Working On A New Album

As for her comeback, Olivia revealed that she has a “real sexy” new album coming titled, ‘Under Pressure.’

“I wanted it to be real R&B with the real sexy and not raunchy ya know? So you will definitely get that on this album plus a few other trinkets. I must say it is a well-rounded album. You will be able to play every track straight and not skip.”

Yo Gotti Says Moneybagg Yo Has The It-Factor

CMG boss Yo Gotti discussed signing Moneybagg Yo during a recent interview. “Young artists are blinded by dollar signs,” he explained to Billboard. “Everybody wants a new car, to move their momma out to a bigger house, jewelry, the nice things in life. I think everybody should have exactly what they want, but there’s methods, strategies and tactics to get everything. Artists turn me off when it’s all about money.”

When asked if they have to have heart, he replied, “They’ve got to have the it-factor” and pointed to Moneybagg Yo. In 2016, “Me and [Blac] Youngsta start working, and he immediately asks me, ‘You looking for another artist?’ ” Gotti recalled. “There’s this dude Moneybagg Yo, he’s hot.’”

At the time, Moneybagg Yo was a member of the rap collective Memphis Greatest Underrated (MGU) alongside Youngsta. By the time the group split, Moneybagg had released about six mixtapes and amassed a loyal local fan base. “Youngsta blew up first, then I blew up — there were too many egos,” Moneybagg said of the group’s split.

However, Yo Gotti had a plan to expand his reach far beyond Tennessee despite the rapper initially wanting to maintain independence. Once Moneybagg Yo realized, “certain doors won’t open if you ain’t connected,” he signed to CMG with a $220,000 signing bonus to sweeten the deal.

“I was getting $2,500 a show, then I signed with Gotti, and I started getting $25,000,” Moneybagg said. “My career just kept going up, then I started doing the Chitlin Circuit — Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee — and the rest was history.”

Kanye West & XXXTentacion’s “True Love” Arrives On Streaming Services

Kanye West has dropped his collaboration with the late XXXTentacion titled “True Love.”

The track originally debuted on DONDA 2 in February, but was only available on Ye’s Stem Player. However, Columbia Records and X’s estate announced the song will be housed on both DONDA 2 and the forthcoming Look At Me: The Album, the soundtrack for the new documentary Look At Me: XXXTentacion that premiered on Thursday, May 26 via Hulu.

It is unclear whether this marks the start of a true DONDA 2 rollout to bring all of the project to streaming services. In the meantime, listen to the track below.

Meanwhile, XXXTentacion’s estate shared a message on his Instagram Story: “To Jahseh’s amazing fans. We appreciate the love and support tremendously. We appreciate the patience as a large part of [the documentary] was done during a global pandemic. We always knew that Jahseh’s story would change and save lives globally.”

Additionally, archival vocals from XXXTentacion appear on “Everything We Need” from Kanye’s 2019 Jesus is King. He has also hinted at more unreleased music dating back to the Yandi era.

Singer-Songwriter Samaslife Devoted To Fighting Hate With Anticipated Album

Recording Artist Samaslife sat down with us to give us the low down on how he believes music has the power to alleviate pain and even put an end to hate. The hitmaker has a simple theory – music speaks. It might say different things to different people, but it speaks nonetheless. And what it says can shift the world on its axis. Melodies and lyrics can do little on their own. Have the right person put them together and what you get is a powerful weapon.

Music, be it party-pop hits or soulful tunes, can hit us on a deeper level. A study conducted by the Journal of Positive Psychology found that with the help of music, “participants successfully improved their moods in the short term and boosted their overall happiness over a two-week period.” This goes to show just how quickly music can turn your mood around. Studies have also found that even listening to sad music helps you feel happier, as ironic as that may seem.

The world of music has witnessed some of the greatest artists deliver stellar performances. The most beautiful ones have brought the world to a standstill. Over the centuries, even kings and queens have bowed to the power that music exudes. Good music has managed to, even if just for a few minutes, decrease the pain of the world and abolish hate. That, Samaslife says, “is reason enough to continue working hard at my craft.”

Samaslifes’ imprint on the industry can be seen through the hugely positive response to his latest discography and anticipated album. Whatever it is that Samaslife is doing, he’s undeniably cementing his stance within the music world.

Champagne Rose Talks Being GenZ and Female Influence In The Music World

With budding artists firing on all cylinders every month, labels continue to ensure their artists can keep up with the trends of GenZ and Millenial audiences. Champagne Rose has decided to engage in the conversation surrounding her influence as a female artist continuing to cement a stance within the music world. With this constant over-saturation of sounds, lyrics, and beats we rarely take the time to stop and consider what it takes to capture the attention of listeners.  We often forget that every lyric represents one person’s thoughts and feelings, every melody was spun from someone’s unique mind. To get a greater understanding of what goes into the creation of a song, we reached out to musician Champagne Rose to discover insights about her creative process.

Champagne Rose shares that her creative process begins with being open to inspiration and ready to receive any new ideas and concepts that could shape a song. She explains that she does this by giving herself the creative space to conceptualize lyrics and melodies and by ensuring that she stays committed to making music. Further explaining this insight, Champagne Rose says, “Music is my ultimate passion and number one focus, by staying undistracted and ready to receive inspiration, I find the spirit of what it is that I want to write and then I build from there.” Champagne Rose shares that the process of creating a song is one of her favorite things about being a musician, explaining how seeing a song evolve from nothing into a unique piece of music that can be shared with anyone gives her an immense sense of fulfillment.

According to Champagne Rose creating music is a life-long passion that she has become more and more dedicated to over the years. Having built a strong and loyal following with her songs, it is a passion that is appreciated by her many listeners. Since she first started releasing music, Champagne Rose has proved that her commitment to her creative process is unwavering by consistently providing unique songs that have helped to build her dedicated following steadily.

Starita And Otis McDonald Release “The Wake Up Re-Call”

A 20+ year veteran of the music industry with experiences as a music producer, former studio owner, songwriter, engineer, and musician, 2-time Grammy/Latin Grammy recognized Starita, is well recognized for his distinctive genre-blending collaborations and work with Childish Gambino, A Tribe Called Quest, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Third Eye Blind, Madame Gandhi, Rebelution, Los Amigos Invisibles, Michael Franti, and Spearhead.

This time, he teams up with multi-instrumentalist/beat-maker Otis McDonald and rappers Illa J, Zay Bcuz, and NicX, to create a head knockin’ reinterpretation of the original “The Wake Up Call.” “The Wake Up Re-Call” is Starita’s latest release amongst another impressive lineup of music tastemakers including Ben Leinbach and L0<3* showcased on the forthcoming remix EP.

This is a first-time collaboration for these artists. Starita selected McDonald for this remix because of his versatile style of “beat making.” Many recognize McDonald for his royalty-free audio library, made available for creators on YouTube to soundtrack their videos.

His songs have been used in more than 3.5 million YouTube videos with 7.6 billion views, 5 million downloads, and over 10 million streams. Starita resonated with McDonald’s approach of leveraging the power of both old and new technology as well as his roots in funk, soul, jazz, classic rock, pop and hip-hop, to create sounds that are fresh but tangibly ingrained in nostalgia. While very different in their musical styles and approach, there is a common thread in the way Starita combines organic, acoustic, and electronic elements using analog synths to create unique sound designs.

Fans of J Dilla and Madlib will be pleasantly surprised. This track can be described as a lush and progressive flavored beat, reminiscent of the late 90s/early 2000s hip-hop. McDonald wanted to maintain the lush and beautiful soundscape that Starita put forth in the original version while adding more grit and funk. By doing so, McDonald flipped the track from one that was atmospheric, moody, dark, and compositionally ambient to a rendition that is not only funky, gritty, but also soulful and infused with elements of hip-hop, progressive, jazz, and R&B.

To top this off with the distinctive vocal range of Illa J, Zay Bcuz, and NicX, and DJ Rasta Root on the cuts took this track to a whole new level of dynamism.

“When I heard the track, it had a ‘Slum’ (Slum Village) vibe – don’t mean it’s a Slum track or exactly like Slum, it’s an energy. It’s hip-hop, funky, and soulful at the same time. To me, that’s what a Slum track vibe is. It has all the elements of my favorite stuff – dirty, grimy, funky, and it’s sloppy. Close to the one,” reacts Illa J, American rapper, singer/songwriter, and producer (former member of Slum Village and younger brother of the late hip hop producer and rapper J Dilla).

Musician Natalie Ziadeh Releases Serenity to Rousing Success

Natalie Ziadeh was born in Houston, Texas, on February 24, 1999. She came into a world of music played and performed by members of her family. Her grandfather played several different instruments, including the piano. Classical music filled the house, and the family attended orchestral symphonies as often as possible. Ziadeh, too, began to play music as soon as she was able, playing the piano and singing for her church as a young child.

Music is Natalie’s passion. Although she started out playing the piano, she discovered the violin in middle school, and she was hooked. By the age of thirteen, she was competing at the regional level. As a freshman in high school, she tried out for and was accepted in her school’s highest orchestra, and she traveled the state with that orchestra, competing in many solo, ensemble, string, and philharmonic orchestral meets.

Natalie Ziadeh went to attend Texas A&M University, where she graduated with a degree in psychology. She currently attends The Chicago School of Professional Psychology to acquire her master’s degree in Psychology and she hopes to pursue her Ph.D. in Psychology soon after. As a psychology student and future clinician, Ziadeh has extensively researched the power of music on the cognitive functioning of both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals. Ziadeh recommends that all students take advantage of the benefits music can give them when they are studying or need a release from the tensions of the day.

In order to help her with her stressors and memory, Ziadeh has created her own mashup of musical styles. In her newest album titled Serenity, Natalie incorporates her tranquilizing violin abilities with the unique and mainstream sounds of lo-fi beats. Specifically, Ziadeh has taken the classical music of the violin, viola, and flute and added to it the distorted lo-fi beats of the electric piano and percussion instruments. The results are dreamy, relaxing, and powerful music that soothes and replenishes.

Her album, to no surprise, has attracted thousands of listeners on a monthly basis. Her Spotify profile currently sits at almost 20,000 listeners, with close to 30,000 on the Serenity album alone. This boost of listeners was also met with an exciting 5,000 follower jump on Spotify alone, and a boost of thousands of followers on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Stay tuned for all that she has in store, there are many onlookers waiting for her future releases.

YNW Melly Demands To Get Murder Trial Underway

YNW Melly is ready for his murder trial to begin.

According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, YNW Melly asked for a speedy trial on Thursday (May 26). The request was filed a month after jury selection got postponed.

YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, is accused of killing Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. in 2018. The Florida rapper and his associate Cortlen Henry, also known as YNW Bortlen, face first-degree murder charges.

“Defendant, Jamell Demons, by and through the undersigned attorney and pursuant to Fla. R. Crim. P. 3.191 (b), hereby files this Demand for Speedy Trial, indicating that he is available for trial, has diligently investigated his case, and that he will be prepared and ready for trial within five (5) days from the date of this Demand,” YNW Melly’s lawyer wrote.

The motion noted, “Under Florida’s speedy trial statute, anyone accused of a felony is entitled to be tried within 175 days of having been taken into custody.”

YNW Melly has remained in jail since his 2019 arrest. Jury selection for his murder trial was scheduled to begin in April before a judge postponed the process. He hopes to avoid more delays by filing a motion for a speedy trial.

“No later than 5 days from the filing of a demand for speedy trial, the court shall hold a calendar call, with notice to all parties, for the express purposes of announcing in open court receipt of the demand and of setting the case for trial,” YNW Melly’s attorney wrote. “At the calendar call the court shall set the case for trial to commence at a date no less than 5 days nor more than 45 days from the date of the calendar call.”

YNW Melly could be sentenced to death if convicted.

Yella Beezy Arrested In Connection To Sexual Assault Case

Yella Beezy can’t seem to avoid legal trouble.

According to Collin County jail records, Yella Beezy was taken into custody on Thursday (May 26). Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest in connection to a sexual assault case.

Yella Beezy, whose real name is Markies Deandre Conway, was originally arrested for sexual assault in November 2021. He was released on a $57,500 bond.

But months later, his bond was held insufficient. This could mean a number of things, including him not following a judge’s orders, missing court dates or not complying with a bondsman’s requirements.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on Wednesday (May 25). He was booked in the Collin County Jail a day later. His bond is now set at $1,000,000.

Last year, Yella Beezy was hit with a felony sexual assault charge after being accused of rape. He was also charged with abandoning or endangering a child and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He denied the allegations.

“Yall gotta stop playing on my name,” he said. “I was arrested on false allegations. I was arrested before I was even questioned and I knew about anything [that] was going on.”

Yella Beezy added, “I can’t really speak on a lot of the stuff ‘cause my lawyer advised me not to, but I just had to speak out because people get stuff misconstrued. I’ll have my day in court, I ain’t worried about nothing. Evidence is going to prove itself. Like I said, a rumor spread faster than the truth. Just trust the process.”

Kool G Rap Producer Domingo Gives Insight Into Legend’s New Album

Veteran producer Domingo spoke to AllHipHop about his work on Kool G Rap’s upcoming album Last of a Dying Breed.

Kool G Rap enlisted Domingo to produce the legendary rapper’s entire LP, which will feature collaborations with AZ and the late Sean Price. Domingo didn’t need any convincing to create more music with the influential emcee.

“Working on this album with Kool G Rap, it’s like having a family gathering because we are like brothers,” he told AllHipHop. “We’ve known each other so long and always had each other’s back. So, when I was presented [with] the opportunity to produce this album, I did not hesitate to work with one of the G.O.A.T.S. of Hip Hop.”

Domingo also discussed his creative process, explaining how he tailor-made his beats for his longtime collaborator.

“I went over each beat precisely to match what G Rap is all about lyrically,” he said. “Even calling upon some talented friends to produce on some songs with me such as Dr. G, TonyRoc and Boogie The Hit Maker. They assisted in adding to the album’s direction of what I was shooting for, accomplishing a really well-put-together album for an artist who I consider the G.O.A.T: Kool G Rap … The Last of a Dying Breed.”

Kool G Rap’s new album is expected to drop in August. The project will be his first solo LP since 2017’s Return of the Don.

This opus is executive produced by The National Hip Hop Museum.

“Goodfellas” Actor Ray Liotta Dies At 67

Actor Ray Liotta has died at the age of 67.

The beloved actor starred in numerous iconic movies like Goodfellas and Sin City. According to Deadline, who broke the news of his passing, he died in his sleep while shooting a movie called dangerous waters.

Canibus Addresses The Pete Rock Situation: “Pete, I Love You.”

Canibus is a pretty classy dude. He’s evolved a lot and he’s not really about beef. “When you don’t know what’s going on, you gotta be quiet,” Canibus says. For some reason, Pete Rock decided to distance himself away from the album he and Canibus presumably did. He actually denied it altogether, but M80, one of the Canibus team members, produced a lot of receipts that say he was paid for his work. On the real, we do not like getting into this stuff. Why?

We have two legends right here. We love them both. They are both dope to this day and we want the best for them. Anyway, moving on. Canibus does a great job at diffusing the matter, but also explaining in detail his point of view. He also says that he really did not get it. “Its always been respectful,” ‘Bis says, “Last time I saw Pete Rock, it was hugs.”

Canibus completely denies there is any situation between him and Pete Rock. I feel him, but we also should recognize that Pete’s tweets are Pete’s tweets. He went on and on and he and M80 had pretty extensive conversation on Twitter. Anyway, salute Canibus!! Respect and I hope and pray this all gets resolved.

“Pete, I love you man and that’s on my heart beat,” Canibus says.

Check out the interview.

Anyway, here is our latest interview with Canibus and it is a great conversation. No beef, just veggies!
