EXCLUSIVE: Dot Demo Restores Lyricism To The Bronx

The Bronx is the birthplace of emceeing.

And in the congested world of rap music, it is easy to forget the value of the lyric and the presence of the lyricist.

Quick beats and catchy phrases saturate the radio, making it hard for artists, who are remotely connected to the artistic foundation, to feel lost in the proverbial sauce. Let’s face it … who cares if you can rhyme?

Well, Dot Demo not only reminds the culture that there are artists that care but reminds the fan of reasons to care.

In his exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, the artist talks about his latest project 93Hunnit, and the process to bring it to the world.

A 16-piece opus, he talks shares how the legacy of being a Bronx rapper helped him craft his project into something that multiple generations could relate to.

“I am telling you; I grew up really weird,” he shares in an exclusive interview with journalist Nikki Duncan-Smith.

He spoke about growing up in an Afro-Latino family and drawing from his Southern heritage and his Boricua roots.  At any given time, his pro-Black grandfather would be breaking down the necessity of nation-building in the house, but outside of the house, he would be taught how to survive in Soundview streets.

Check out his interview and peep all the fascinating elements that made him into the artist that he is, including fatherhood, group affiliations, and more.

Dot Demo co-produced two tracks on the album, while his brother RUNITUPDAY! captured the essence of aesthetically pleasing Lo-Fi Hip Hop on nine of the songs, alongside work from Don The Jeweler, Pacino Tha Plug, Rizzy 2 Times, Ya Drunk Uncle, Beats By Day, and Stab Production.

Game Suggests Trevor Noah Blocked Kanye From Performing At Grammy’s

Rapper The Game took to social media to blast The Recording Academy for disinviting Kanye West from performing at this year’s Grammy Awards show.

Game wrote a lengthy caption next to a meme that says, “When will all the BLACK entertainers, Athletes, Actors, Producers, Writers, Directors, Media etc… figure it out.”

The West Coast rapper broke down his feelings about Kanye being marked because he speaks out.

Mr. Los Angeles Confidential wrote, “Time & time again they show us that they only want to STEAL the culture, not allow you to ever be their equals. In a more than obvious move for reasons of minuscule actions … The Grammys have at the last minute decided to pull @kanyewest from performing on the show as if we didn’t know it was coming.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CbRO2vfL5sd/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

“Could be because @trevornoah is hosting and there was a conversation held amongst his team & the academy that led to the decision or because Ye’s account was suspended just days ago for reasons unknown,” the West Coast rapper rationalized.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, Kanye West had launched a bigoted rant about Noah on Instagram, causing Ye to be suspended from the platform.

Noah responded saying he’s a huge fan of the rapper and that it “breaks” his “heart to see” the artist “like this.

In his response, Trevor Noah tried said, “don’t ever forget, the biggest trick racists ever played on Black people was teaching us to strip each other of our Blackness whenever we disagree.”

The Game, who has been collaborating with Kanye West over the last few months, said that these industry giants have been able to disrespect artists and what they have “brought to the table in entertainment, media & sports over the last 100 years.”

He suggested that Kanye won’t be performing because he boldly speaks his mind, something the decision-makers do not appreciate.

“Speak your mind in this country for yourself, family or your people & you’re ostracized immediately & if you push them hard enough they will stop at no ends to try and put an end to you as a whole,” Game said.

“I for one, have never been scared to speak my mind even understanding what the consequences may be,” the artist continued. “I can’t sleep at night knowing I was quiet about issues burning holes in my heart or narratives incorrectly pushed by the mass agenda to create a mindset that the person at hand is krazy or has issues internally that are beyond repair.”

“I say all this to say, I’M WOKE….. & while I am.. lemme remind you that Colin Kapernick still isn’t allowed in the NFL, lynching just became a federal hate crime in 2022 & you can now not be discriminated from employment because of the way you decide to wear your hair.”

Ending his assessment with sarcasm, “GEEZ thank you m#### for allowing us to slowly progress as a race 100 years at a time after all that was STOLEN from us.”

According to The Blast, on Friday, March 18th, The Grammys called Kanye to share he will not be doing a performance in their upcoming show because of his “concerning online behavior.”

Will Smith Shocked By “Unique” Responses And Praise For “King Richard”

Will Smith is surprised his 2006 film “The Pursuit of Happyness” didn’t get the same level of awards season recognition as “King Richard.”

In an interview with The Blast at the National Board of Review gala on Tuesday, the actor admitted he expected “The Pursuit of Happyness,” which he starred in alongside his son Jaden, to receive a raft of awards nominations, but it only received one – for Best Actor.

“I thought ‘Pursuit of Happyness’ was the best movie I ever made,” he shared. “The reaction that ‘King Richard’ is getting is what I thought ‘Pursuit of Happyness’ was going to get but something happened with this film that is very unique. I’ve never experienced this blanket level of appreciation for a movie.”

The 53-year-old is currently nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for the third time for his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams’ father Richard Williams in “King Richard.”

The film is nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

Will is widely expected to take home the Best Actor Academy Award later this month, as he is currently on a winning streak. Across the past four weeks, he has won the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award, BAFTA Film Award, Critics Choice Award, and National Board of Review prize for the role.

The Oscars will take place in Los Angeles on March 27th.

Benzino Waves White Flag In Longstanding Feud With Eminem

Benzino decided to end one of the longest-running feuds in Hip Hop.

After beefing with Eminem for two decades, Benzino put a stop to the bad blood on Thursday (March 17). Coi Leray’s father announced he’s done with the beef via Twitter.

“To all @Eminem fans & Stans all over the world, the beef is officially over,” he wrote. “I’m letting y’all know I have no hate towards any of his fans & recognize his contributions to Hip Hop. He truly is apart of the culture & 1 of the best to rock the mic regardless of his color.”

Coi Leray’s burgeoning career played a role in Benzino’s decision. He admitted arguing with Eminem’s fans wasn’t a good look for both him and his daughter.

“I realize that me going back and forth with his fans is not good for the culture, my spirit, my legacy and most important, my beautiful, talented daughter Coi Leray,” he explained. “I don’t want any negativity from me affect her dream. This is truly over. God Bless All.”

https://twitter.com/IAMBENZINO/status/1504589609522581507?s=20&t=jK4GLV3RnptoIcYc4tUxWA

Benzino and Eminem’s bitter feud has faded to the background, but it was a major issue in Hip Hop during the 2000s. It also played a role in the downfall of The Source, which Benzino once co-owned.

During the beef, Benzino and Eminem exchanged several diss tracks. The Source’s coverage also started to reflect the personal vendetta against Slim Shady.

The beef’s most infamous moment came in 2003 when Benzino and The Source unearthed recordings of Eminem rapping racial slurs as a teenager. Em apologized for being an “angry, stupid kid” who used the offensive lyrics following a breakup with a Black girlfriend.

Eminem was largely forgiven, but his drama with The Source was just the start of bad business for the magazine once regarded as Hip Hop’s bible. Former editor-in-chief Kim Osorio’s wrongful termination added to the publication’s problems, eventually leading to Benzino and founder David Mays’ ouster from The Source in 2006.

Tasha K Fights Back Against Cardi B By Appealing Defamation Lawsuit

The legal battle between Cardi B and vlogger Tasha K isn’t over yet.

According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, Tasha K filed an appeal in the defamation case against her on Thursday (March 17). Earlier this year, Cardi B won a civil lawsuit after suing the vlogger for spreading lies on YouTube and social media.

Tasha K, whose real name is Latasha Kebe, was found liable for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Her appeal seeks to overturn the ruling.

“The above-named Defendants, Latasha Kebe and Kebe Studios LLC, appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit from the final judgment entered on February 17, 2022,” Tasha K’s lawyer wrote in the court filing.

Cardi B sued Tasha K for defamation in 2019. The vlogger accused the Atlantic Records artist of being a prostitute and having herpes, among other allegations.

A Georgia jury sided with Cardi B at a trial in January. Jurors awarded her over $4 million.

After losing the case, Tasha K still claimed she never lied about Cardi B.

“No LIES were told on anyone,” she wrote on social media. “I never admitted to lying about anything. Noone threw anyone under the bus. Mostly everything reported was a lie from the inside. The Court Transcripts will be available to the public soon. I forgot to add this into my speech. Read Them..”

Cardi B is currently seeking an injunction to stop Tasha K from publishing defamatory statements about her. A judge will make a ruling in April.

Jay-Z Producing Live-Action Movie Based On Graphic Novel For Netflix

Jay-Z is behind a new Netflix adaptation of a graphic novel series.

According to Deadline, Netflix is developing a live-action movie of the comic Irredeemable and its spinoff Incorruptible. Jay-Z will be one of the film’s producers.

The project reunites Jay-Z with filmmaker Jeymes Samuel, who’s directing the movie. Jay-Z also produced Samuel’s film The Harder They Fall, which premiered on Netflix in 2021.

Irredeemable depicts the downfall of a superhero named Plutonian, who suddenly starts slaughtering the people he once protected. Plutonian’s actions force his former nemesis Max Damage to become an unlikely savior.

Mark Waid created the comic with illustrations handled by Peter Krause. Waid expressed his excitement for Samuel’s take on the graphic novel.

“Peter and I are thrilled to death that a writer and a director we both admire are bringing Irredeemable to life in a faithful and respectful way while inventing their own twists and turns,” he said. “Their unique take on the comic makes it unlike any anti-hero story I’ve ever heard, and I love it.”

Samuel and James Lassiter join Jay-Z as producers for Netflix’s Irredeemable adaptation. Kemp Powers, who wrote films such as One Night in Miami and Soul, will pen the script.

Young Dolph Memorial Finally Removed

The memorial for the late rapper Young Dolph outside of his favorite cookie shop where he was murdered is now removed.

Fans and his employees protested the move, but the owners of the Airways Blvd property had the final say.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, Makeda’s Cookies decided not to return to the location after the drive-by murder took the life of one of their most celebrated customers.

Fans vowed that they would build it back up if it does down.

While Dolph’s family understood the decision, FOX 13 reports the fans do not, and they are still making the pilgrimage to the site.

One fan, Dannielle Griffin Noell said, “I don’t think they should take this down. I think they should make it a museum or something like the Trap Museum in Atlanta.”

“They should turn this into the trap museum,” she continued. “Maybe the Dolph museum in honor of him and have more Memphis artists…”

Young Dolph was shot down in front of the bakery after purchasing some treats. Four of the five men suspected in his murder have been apprehended.

Sir Mix-A-Lot To Sell Booty Inspired NFTs To Raise Money For Colorectal Cancer

Rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot made it big in the early 90s with his hit song, “Baby Got Back.”

According to Deadline, in celebration of the song’s 30th Anniversary, the Seattle native is auctioning “Big Butts” NFTs and will use the proceeds to raise monies for research in colorectal cancer.

The project is a partnership with the developer META-X Studios.

The plan is to release a 6,666-piece NFT collection. Each piece will be hand-sketched, hand-colored, and hand-assembled replicas of women’s booties created by animated artists.

Some of the designs have been created by the butt connoisseur himself, Sir Mix-A-Lot.

“When the team at META-X showed me what they were doing, it was a no-brainer for me,” said the “Posse On Broadway” artist. “And as an artist entering this new medium of NFTs, the idea of designing my own branded butts was exciting. Add to it the benefit of raising funds for a great cause like colorectal cancer, and wow! I hope everyone enjoys grabbing onto some nice NFT booty while helping others at the same time.”

The NFT’s four-day release is set for March 28th-31 st on the META-X Studio’s Discord channel

An undecided portion of each sale will benefit the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating the disease.

“Baby Got Back” is the artist’s biggest single, earning him a Grammy Award for “Best Rap Song” in 1993.

Mother Of Young Thug’s Child Killed Over Bowling Ball

The mother of one of Young Thug’s children was shot and killed during a dispute at an Atlanta bowling alley.

According to CBS46, LaKevia Jackson attended a birthday celebration for her best friend at the Metro Fun Center in Southwest Atlanta.

A homicide detective revealed Jackson got into a dispute with another patron, apparently over a bowling ball.

Things took a turn for the worst as Jackson left the Metro Fun Center.

An unidentified gunman opened, fired, and fatally struck Jackson, killing her instantly. Jackson’s mother shared a heart-wrenching comment with CBS46 after the shooting.

“I didn’t know that was going to be the last time I talked to my baby,” Sherina Jackson said. “I could hear her over the phone crying and screaming, then her best friend said she’s not breathing! I lost my baby all over a bowling ball.”

While the shooter has yet to be apprehended, Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said they knew the gunman’s identity and urged him to turn himself in.

Woolfolk was dumbstruck at the level of pettiness that caused the argument and subsequent shooting, which cost LaKevia Jackson her life.

“This is truly an atrocity. A young lady has lost her life over a bowling ball. We talk about conflict-resolution time and time again, and this is an escalated dispute, so we will work this case through the night, and we will find the person responsible,” Lt. Woolfolk told CBS46.

Young Thug has yet to comment on the tragedy.

Above all, Kim K doe not out escape the verbal line of fire. Finally, he suggests, “g#####, Kim Kardashian got you feeling yourself a little bit too much.  We gotta bring you back into reality, Skete. Before we got to come skeet skeet your muthafu*kin’ a**.

Next, Soulja Boy Tell Em mentions Kanye’s eccentricities. Yes, he confides, “We all know Kanye a little thowed off. But, you cannot talk to him like that.  I’m sorry, sir. Crazy man, but you cannot talk to him like that. “
