‘Whole Lotta Red’ Becomes Playboi Carti’s Third Gold-Certified Project

Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti’s discography contains 2017’s Playboi Carti, 2018’s Die Lit, and 2020’s Whole Lotta Red. The Recording Industry Association of America has certified all three projects at least Gold (500,000 units).

Playboi Carti reached Gold status in January 2018. Two years later, the 15-track mixtape crossed the 1 million unit mark. The RIAA also awarded Die Lit with a Gold plaque in 2019.

Whole Lotta Red is now Gold-certified as well. After dropping on Christmas Day in 2020, Playboi Carti’s second studio LP earned a Gold Award on January 11, 2022.

In addition, the Playboi Carti singles “Shoota” featuring Lil Uzi Vert (Platinum), “Wokeuplikethis” featuring Lil Uzi Vert (2x-Platinum), and “Magnolia” (3x-Platinum) earned RIAA certifications. “Lookin” featuring Lil Uzi Vert and “New Choppa” featuring A$AP Rocky are Gold.

Whole Lotta Red came out via Interscope Records and A$AP Rocky’s AWGE label. The Billboard 200 chart-topping album includes appearances by Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Future. The album opened with 100,000 first-week units.

Playboi Carti has been teasing an upcoming project tentatively titled Narcissist. The 25-year-old rhymer, previously known as $ir Cartier, also contributed to Kanye West’s Grammy-nominated Donda album. Carti also showed up on Lil 1 DTE’s 2021 single “Homixide.”

Fat Joe Launches Relief Fund For Victims Of Deadly Bronx Apartment Fire

A fire in a 19-story Bronx apartment building over the weekend caused multiple casualties. The medical examiner’s office determined seventeen people passed away as a result of smoke inhalation.

Bronx native Joseph “Fat Joe” Cartagena is rallying the public and his celebrity associates to raise money for the victims’ loved ones. The veteran rapper teamed up with the New York City Mayor’s Fund for the fundraiser.

So far, Fat Joe has secured commitments from fellow Hip Hop representatives Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and DJ Khaled. To make a financial contribution to the Bronx Apartment Building Fire campaign visit fatjoe.me/donatebronx.

A description on the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City website reads:

Donate to help victims of the January 9th apartment building fire in the Bronx. Your cash donation will enable the distribution of emergency relief supplies and provide support for the victims and their families. Your entire donation will go towards helping those impacted by the fire.

www1.nyc.gov

So far, the New York City Police Department confirmed the identity of fourteen victims. At least seven of the people who died from the Twin Parks North West Complex tragedy were under the age of 13. In addition, thirty-five other people supposedly suffered life-threatening injuries.

New York firefighter union representatives reportedly confirmed the building was not required to comply with city fire codes. U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres (NY-15) pledged to create a task force of local and federal officials to investigate the causes of the fire in order to produce new legislation.

“We have to clarify in federal law that federal developments, federally regulated and subsidized developments, should be subject to local fire codes and housing codes and building codes. That every American have access to safe and affordable housing, including housing that’s safe from fires,” said Congressman Ritchie Torres.

Juice WRLD’s Mother Talks Her Son’s Inner Circle Enabling His Drug Use

Jarad “Juice Wrld” Higgins reportedly passed away in December 2019 from oxycodone and codeine intoxication. The late Hip Hop artist routinely wrote lyrics about drug usage, the perils that come along with addiction, and mental health struggles.

Juice Wrld’s mother, Carmela Wallace, appeared on The Tamron Hall Show this week to discuss her son. In particular, Wallace spoke about the people who surrounded the “Lucid Dreams” performer before his death.

“I just felt like his best interest wasn’t being looked out for. I think people had their own agendas,” said Carmela Wallace. “I think they liked the lifestyle. And they were young too, so I have to give them that.”

Wallace continued, “They’re young so they don’t see things the way we would see it, but I just think that he just didn’t have the people in place to just tell him to stop or to know [what was really wrong]. He just didn’t have that support system in place.”

Recently, fellow rapper Nicholas “Lil Xan” Leanos also sparked a conversation about celebrities’ handlers being partially responsible for the stars’ drug abuse. Lil Xan publicly threatened to sue his former manager, Stat Quo, for supplying him with illegal narcotics.

Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss Hit HBO In December 2021

Director Tommy Oliver explored Jarad Higgins’ life story in HBO’s Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss. Close associates of Juice WRLD, such as Lil Bibby, Polo G, G Herbo, and The Kid Laroi, appeared in the documentary. Carmela Wallace was a producer for the film.

Into the Abyss arrived around the same time as the posthumously released Juice WRLD album Fighting Demons. The project debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Eleven songs off Fighting Demons debuted on the Hot 100 chart during the LP’s debut week.

“I was very honest with him about my fear. I remember there was an incident when I was done working and I was doing errands and I said, ‘I want to put on one of his songs.’ This one particular day, I was listening to a song [‘Maze’] and I just began to weep,” Carmela Wallace told Tamron Hall.

Wallace added, “I just wept and this was months before his death. I was so scared and I told him that. I shared my experience with him. I told him, ‘If you ever die like that, it would change my life forever. I just wouldn’t be the same.’ I just could not stop the tears [when listening to the song] because I knew ultimately the end of that is either you get help or you’re not gonna make it.”

The Weeknd’s ‘Dawn FM’ & Gunna’s ‘DS4Ever’ In Close Race For No. 1

It seems The Weeknd is set to score his fifth #1 album with Dawn FM. However, Gunna’s DS4Ever is reportedly right on the heels of Dawn FM‘s projected first-week sales.

HitsDailyDouble reports The Weeknd’s Dawn FM is on pace to bring in around 157,000 units in week one of its release. At the moment, DS4Ever is estimated to open with 144,000 units.

That 157,000 total would be a significant drop from The Weeknd’s last studio LP. After Hours debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 444,000 album-equivalent units in 2020. It went on to earn 2x-Platinum certification.

Gunna also hit #1 on the Billboard 200 with 2020’s Wunna. The Atlanta-raised rapper’s second studio album brought in 111,000 first-week units. Wunna is presently certified Gold in the United States.

With a tight race for #1 on next week’s chart, The Weeknd appears to be trying to amass more potential first-week units for Dawn FM. The Canadian singer-songwriter added three tracks to the Dawn FM (Alternate World) edition.

Dawn FM‘s original 16-track version includes credited contributions from Tyler, The Creator and Lil Wayne. Legendary musician/producer Quincy Jones and legendary comedian/actor Jim Carrey made appearances on the album as well.

Gunna’s DS4Ever features Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Chlöe, Lil Baby, G Herbo, Nechie, Yung Bleu, Chris Brown, and Roddy Ricch. The project is said to be the fourth and final installment of the Drip Season series.

Casanova Wants Fans To Stop Asking Him About Jay-Z’s Help

Caswell “Casanova” Senior is facing a serious federal case. Prosecutors claim the Behind These Scars album creator is a member of the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation gang.

Before being charged with racketeering and drug offenses, Casanova signed with Warehouse Music Group which is an imprint under Jay-Z’s Roc Nation record label. Some fans have questioned what Jay-Z is doing to help Casanova with his legal situation.

Casanova recently took to Twitter to address people that have complained about Jay’s lack of public involvement in the case. Cas tweeted, “Stop asking me what Jay-Z is doing for me… he did enough already, he gave me a shot.”

Back in 2020, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York announced the indictment of Casanova and seventeen other individuals. For example, Brandon “Stacks” Soto was charged in connection with the murder of a minor in Poughkeepsie, New York.

“As alleged in the Indictment, members of Gorilla Stone committed terrible acts of violence, trafficked in narcotics, and even engaged in brazen fraud by exploiting benefits programs meant to provide assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated then-Acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss.

Last year, Casanova was also charged with attempted murder for a violent incident that took place outside Miami’s King of Diamonds strip club in 2020. The 35-year-old Brooklyn native reportedly pled not guilty in that case.

Jay-Z’s Team Roc Claim Feds Refuse To Release Inmate Over Some Chicken

Jay-Z and Team Roc have suffered a setback in their attempt to get a reduced sentence for Valon Vailes.
TMZ spoke to Team Roc lawyer Alex Spiro about the latest developments in the case.

“They’re not looking at him like a human being and they never were,” Spiro said. “He’s an African American man who gets a 20-year sentence for weed.”

The lawyer then pointed to the disparity in the system, “That same case handled by different lawyers, in a different jurisdiction, if there was more empathy for the person being charged…if he was whiter, if he was different in a number of ways, maybe he gets 5 maybe he gets 8.”

Furthermore, the attorney explained that federal prosecutors now refuse to release Vailes over two minor infractions during his 15 years behind bars.

Team Roc Says The Feds Are Denying Vailes his Moment In Court

He continued, “I just don’t believe they view him as an independent human being worthy of independent assessment.” He said the court is not giving Vailes applications the proper attention because they view him as simply “an inmate number” and cannot identify with him. He concluded by saying the feds are denying him “his due moment in court.”

Additionally, TMZ reports that while Team Roc says Vailes is eligible for compassionate release, the new court filings reveal the feds have turned him down over some “ticky-tac” prison rule violations. The government says in the filings Vailes once snuck some left-over chicken from the mess hall into his cell and also used his prison uniform as “workout equipment.”

AllHipHop reported on the case of Valon Vailes who is serving a 20-year sentence for intent to distribute weed. He reached out to Jay-Z and Team Roc to help him appeal his sentence. He wrote to Hov about his frustration at the hypocrisy of a system that now allows for billions to be made from legalized cannabis.

Team Roc’s lawyers are asking the judge to reduce Vailes’ sentence to time served and release him immediately.

Soulja Boy Fans React To OnlyFans “Nude Leak”

Soulja Boy is trending on Twitter after explicit photos of the rapper leaked online on Tuesday (Jan. 11).

The “Crank That” hitmaker revealed to his fans that he is taking his talents to OnlyFans and shared a link to his page.

He was promptly roasted in the comments for the $9.99 subscription fee.

One tweeted, “if i pay 9.99 you better f### me through the phone or sum.”

However, Soulja Boy is having the last laugh after he became a trending topic after photos of “Big Draco” leaked online.

The Neighbourhood Talk shared an image that while, technically, “safe for work,” left little to the imagination.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CYmfm3mPB8V/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

On the other hand, the images that elevated the “”Rick & Morty” rapper to trending status were not, as the rapper posed without underwear, letting it all hang out.

The explicit images are said to be leaked from Soulja Boy’s OnlyFans posted online by subscribers. Rather than being mad that the images were exposed, he began retweeting the crazy reactions to the photos.

Soulja Boy Fans React

“They don’t call souljaboy big draco for nothing 😫😫 that man blessed 😭.”

“Got damn Soulja boy,” wrote one user.

Another spoke to his nickname, “Know wonder why Soulja boy named big Draco.”

One fan spun one of his lyrics back on him asking him to, “Kiss me thru the phone.”

One response suggested Soulja is entitled to behave the way he does, “Lmaoooo after I seen that picture Soulja boy got every reason to act how he do.”

Despite his recent OnlyFans success, Soulja Boy revealed he has a new docuseries with Revolt TV coming out in October and is “an actor now.”

“Being Draco, new TV show January 21, 2022, we going into the year with all positive energy, you know what I’m saying? I ain’t got no beef with nobody. I ain’t got no smoke, no problems, no nothin’. All I’m doing is TV show and movies, I’m a actor now.”

Trey Songz Denies Rape Allegations Made By Basketball Player Dylan Gonzalez

Former University of Las Vegas basketball player Dylan Gonzalez has accused singer Trey Songz of rape.

She made a formal accusation via her Twitter account on Tuesday (Jan. 12) with the hashtag #BeStrongNotSilent

“With what seems like endlessly reoccurring news of the alleged sexual assaults committed by Trey Songz, I am forced to repeatedly relive in my mind, and suffer anew, the long-suppressed horror and unbearable PTSD of my rape by his very hands at a well known Las Vegas hotel,” she wrote.

“I want to send my love, strength, and hope to all who are victims of sexual assault and its fatal nature. You are not alone,” the statement continued.

Gonzalez added, “I stand with you and encourage all those who have suffered abuse to speak out and come forward. Suppression of our voices only emboldens our oppressors, and you cannot heal what you do not reveal.”

“At this time, I humbly request my privacy, consideration and compassion while I fully commit to pursue the best course of action and all of my legal options,” she concluded.

Trey Songz Responds

TMZ reports a rep for the singer confirmed, “Trey and his team are confident in the legal process and that there will be an abundance of exonerating information to come over the next few weeks.”

The athlete’s attorneys Ariel Mitchell and George Vrabeck told TMZ they will be taking action in the next few weeks. The legal team will be considering pursuing any and all legal avenues with plans for filing a civil suit. Additionally, they report the lawyers did not mention filing a police report or criminal charges.

Neither Gonzalez nor her legal team commented on when the alleged incident occurred.

Gonzalez initially made the accusation on the final day of 2021. “Trey Songz is a rapist,“ she tweeted. “Lord forgive me I Couldn’t hold that in another year. See you in 2022.”

Trey Songz has been accused of impropriety towards women in the past, though he has always denied the allegations.

Pete Rock Set To Sue Nas Over Unpaid Royalties From Illmatic

It looks like Nas and Pete Rock are going to court. This could get ugly really fast.

The legendary producer dropped the gauntlet today in a report by the New York Post, where he says that he wants to get his money from the seminal album Illmatic.

The Post even quotes Pete!

“Nas and his people have stonewalled me since 1994; My New Year’s resolution is to be compensated for my hard work on Illmatic,” he said boldly!

For now, we don’t really know where Nas stands on all of this because he is out here being a whole mogul. Pete Rock is not going after the labels, or any other institution this seems to be aimed directly at the rapper. I do not happen to know who ELSE may be liable for these monies Pete says he is owed.

So, what does this all mean!? It’s hard for me to say. Both of these guys are tremendous influences on hip-hop culture and iconic even. I am hoping they do not end up warring.

But it looks like they may since. so many people have sampled “The World Is Yours.”

Per The Post:

The track is the song most sampled by hip-hop artists from Nas’ catalog, according to insiders. It has been sampled by Jay-Z, Eminem, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and the late Mac Miller.

The song was also used in the film “Antwoine Fisher,” directed by and starring Denzel Washington

We are going to keep this in the gossip zone for now until they actually file. They expect that to happen later this month if something dramatic does not happen. I am thinking this is traumatic!

Young Dolph Murder Suspects Have Been Captured

Both suspects in the Young Dolph murder case are in custody.

Justin Johnson, 23, and Cornelius Smith, 32, have been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Young Dolph. Johnson was previously identified as one of the suspects, but Smith’s name wasn’t publicly revealed until Tuesday (January 11).

According to multiple reports, U.S. Marshals captured Johnson in Indiana on Tuesday. Last week, a first-degree murder warrant was issued for Johnson.

The Young Dolph murder suspect also had an outstanding warrant for a violation of his federal supervised release. U.S. Marshals Service, Memphis Police Department, Crime Stoppers and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to Johnson’s capture.

Johnson, who raps under the name Straight Dropp, claimed he would surrender to authorities on Monday but never did. Instead, he released a music video for a song titled “Track Hawk.”

Smith was arrested on an auto-theft warrant in Southaven, Mississippi on December 9, 2021. He allegedly stole the white Mercedes Benz vehicle used in the Young Dolph shooting.

On Tuesday, Smith was extradited to the Shelby County Jail in Memphis, Tennessee. He’d been in custody at the DeSoto County Jail since his arrest.

Smith is being held without bond. A grand jury indicted him for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony and theft of property over $10,000.

Kanye West Allegedly Plans To Meet Vladimir Putin & Perform In Russia

An advisor for Kanye West claims the unpredictable rapper will be going to Russia to perform and possibly meet with Vladimir Putin.

Ameer Sudan, a strategic advisor for Kanye West, told Billboard the G.O.O.D. Music founder is planning a trip to Moscow later this year. Sudan also said Russia is going to be a “second home” for ‘Ye.

“He will be spending a lot of time out there,” Sudan stated.

According to Billboard, Sudan is working with attorney Scott Balber on arranging the visit to Russia. The two are acting as the liaisons between Kanye West and two of Balber’s clients: Azerbaijani-Russian real estate developer Aras Agalarov and his son Emin Agalarov.

Despite Sudan’s assertions, other Kanye West’s associates insist nothing is happening. Pierre Rougier, a PR rep for ‘Ye, denied the whole story.

“Entirely fabricated,” Rougier told Rolling Stone. “Work of fiction or wishful thinking from these Russian people.”

But publicist Rob Goldstone, who represents Emin Agalarov and helped facilitate a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. at Trump Tower, contradicted Rougier. Goldstone told Rolling Stone “there are talks going on” but wouldn’t share any details.

If Kanye West does travel to Russia, his trip could be complicated. The U.S. is considering sanctions against Russia, but Sudan insists ‘Ye won’t have any problems.

“Ye is going to get there regardless,” Sudan proclaimed. “What are they going to say? He’s going to be a special guest of the Agalarovs. Kanye knows what’s going on more than the average human being, he’s well aware of things. And it’s nothing against the United States or to cause conflicts, but ‘Ye is ‘Ye — he can’t be controlled.”

Nelly Denies Losing $300,000 & Giving Woman $100 For Returning It

Nelly disputed a story claiming he gave a paltry reward to a good Samaritan.

The diamond-selling rapper denied losing a duffle bag containing $300,000 and giving $100 to a woman who returned it to him. Nelly defended himself in a post on the Neighborhood Talk Instagram account, which shared a video of the woman and her friends’ anecdote.

“Cap … SUUUUUUPPPPPEEERRRRR CAAPPP,” Nelly insisted. “I didn’t lose s### idk what bag or who’s bag they talkin bout but it dam show wasn’t mine.”

In the clip, a group of people discussed the woman supposedly finding Nelly’s bag, which contained $300,000. Instead of keeping the cash, she allegedly gave it back to its rightful owner.

“We up here at the bowling alley,” one man said in the video. “She found Nelly bag. It had $300,000 in it. And guess what she do? She gave it back.”

He continued, “What they give you? Tell ’em what they give you.”

The woman responded by saying $100. The man filming reiterated her answer and referenced the Breakfast Club’s “Donkey of the Day” segment.

“They gave her 100 f###### dollars,” he said. “Donkey of the Day … They gave her $100 for giving him back $300,000.”

This comes days after El Capo was caught in some drama about how he learned how to French kiss as a kid.

AllHipHop.com reported that on the most recent episode of Angela Yee’s “Lip Service,” he revealed that his mother taught him how to tongue kiss.

He said, “My mom … taught me how to tongue kiss when I was younger.”

“There wasn’t no instructions, she showed me with her mouth,” he continued. Angela Yee asked, “She kissed you?”  He responded, “That’s my mother, what do you mean?”

His mother, Nancy “Mama” Jones, responded to the backlash saying, “Everybody needs to understand, you’re taking it wrong. I am not a nasty mother,”.

“All I am is a mother that was teaching my son exactly how to survive and how to actually be able to deal with a woman,” she continued. “And, for their information, it wasn’t no tonguing down. It was a way of showing you how to tongue. He licked out his tongue, I licked out my tongue, that was that. Wasn’t no mouth-to-mouth resuscitation…It wasn’t like that.”

The “We Fly High” rapper was promoting his new project “Gangsta Grillz” on the show, the same one that Fivio will appear on.

Check out an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, where the Harlem native talks about the project, working with younger artists and the five other musical projects he has dropping in 2022.

Instagram Model Alleges Drake Put Hot Sauce In His Used Condom To Stop Groupies From Stealing His Sperm

Twitter is going crazy with a bizarre story about Hip-Hop’s “Certified Lover Boy.” According to sources, Drake put hot sauce in a condom to stop an Instagram model from stealing his sperm after sex. Who knew the way to stop unwanted pregnancy was in your cabinet … good old Texas Pete!

Apparently, after the chart-topper, the artist with the most #1 singles in the history of Billboard, finished making whoopie with a popular model that he met on social media, he put the spicy condiment in the used prophylactic. She was not the only one according to Sportskeeda.com. He does this with many of the women he beds, preventing them from using his sperm to impregnate themselves and get him for a child support bag.

Now, the woman plans to sue Drake.

Does she have a case?

https://twitter.com/sneerid/status/1480711121736769538?s=20

The story goes that they met at a joint and linked up that night in his hotel room. After smoking, they hopped in the bed to get it popping. After they were done, he threw the condom out, and to her dismay, after she dug it out of the trash to transfer the semen into her body, she discovered his unconventional birth control method.

The report states that when she placed the content from the rubber in her v##### and screamed. She hollered, saying her v##### felt like “lava” was being poured in it.

Drake admitted to her that he put the hot sauce in the condom, explaining the reason why.

Now, she is threatening to sue. She allegedly posted the images of her burnt-up pom pom parts online.

No one from OVO has commented on this story/rumor.

Jeff Bhasker Explains Why He Left Kanye West For A Solo Career

While artists are typically the ones in the spotlight, it’s important to highlight the individuals behind-the-scenes that play an integral part in creating these hit records

Jeff Bhasker, has worked with everyone under the sun from Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Young Thug to Beyonce and Alicia Keys.

Bhasker is a producer and songwriter, keyboardist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist who first fell in love with jazz before discovering his musical abilities in other areas.

Bhasker is a Grammy Award-winning superproducer from Socorro, New Mexico, whose father is from India. He’s lived and worked in LA for 15 years now. Describing himself, “Jeff Bhasker is a pianist. Jeff Bhasker loves modernism and Igor Stravinsky. I grew up on jazz and wanted to be a jazz pianist, that’s what turned me on to music, period. My mom was playing those jazz chords and I asked her, ‘what is that?’ That got me going.”

To date, Bhasker has worked extremely closely with Kanye West on his standout albums: 808s & Heartbreak, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Watch the Throne, and Donda. In fact, the opportunity first arose when Kanye needed a last-minute keyboardist for his Glow In The Dark Tour. Ye was so impressed with Jeff’s musical ability that he asked him to be his musical director for the tour.

Most recently, Bhasker was featured on Young Thug’s “Love You More,” alongside Nate Ruess, Gunna, and Metro Boomin’. Additionally, he’s been shifting his focus to his own solo projects, as he looks to re-release his Billy Kraven, Born on the Fourth of July project, along with a piano-based album titled Ashes and Ghosts.

Jeff Bhasker: You actually got your start with Goapele, can you touch on that?

Jeff Bhasker: It was on her first album, which was called Closer. I did a couple songs: I did “Salvation,” “Butterflykisses.” I met her in Boston, her brother managed me for a hot second. He’s the one that got The Game track placed.

AllHipHop: All-time favorite song you’ve done with Kanye?

Jeff Bhasker: Man, that’s too hard. “Runaway,” there’s something really special about that and how iconic that is. It’s also how we cracked the code on a late night, doing that and seeing the smile come on his face. Everyone went to bed, we stayed up and worked on that. It was a special moment of figuring that out. It really came together, encapsulates all the great things of our collaborations. Just super musical, minimal, very emotional, uplifting but sad. It’s very complex, you know? It has a lot of complexity.

AllHipHop: Thoughts on that Taylor Swift moment?

Jeff Bhasker: That’s right. The original cancel — the beta version of getting canceled, how he responded to that and triumphed over it. I mean, I love that about Kanye’s work. He really reaches into his soul and his emotions, and puts it all on the table for you to see. He’s bringing very difficult, honest and uncomfortable things about himself personally into the light, that’s a very brave thing to do. That’s what makes great art, is people revealing that.

AllHipHop: Loved seeing you featured on Young Thug’s “Love You More.” How did that come about?

Jeff Bhasker: It meant everything. I’m so grateful to them for giving me that opportunity to show my artistry. When I play the piano, it has a resonance and energy and emotion that CHECK THIS PART out over time. From “Runaway,” to Pink’s “Just Give Me A Reason,” to “Love You More,” that’s an artistic voice unto itself so I appreciate them for recognizing that. It’s the beginning of bringing that into the light and bringing what I bring to the table. Even for myself, acknowledging that for myself, that’s my artistic voice. Doing more and more with that is going to be really exciting.

AllHipHop: How was performing SNL with Young Thug? How’d it compare to your previous experiences on SNL?

Jeff Bhasker: You know what? It’s funny you asked that because it was really special. It was really special to get the shoutout at the end too from Rami Malek. It was so effortless with the group. We’ve never rehearsed before. We just did that soundcheck and it came together so effortlessly.

AllHipHop: You didn’t rehearse beforehand?

Jeff Bhasker: You know what, they had some rehearsals. I was working on another project but since I produced it and I wrote it, I think I knew my part. I could just jump in there. It was cool because you do a number of soundchecks on SNL. You do a first day of two or three soundchecks, then the day of, you end up running it a number of nine or 10 times. It evolved and shaped up to all this, we peaked for the performance so that was super special. Got to take a picture and say hi to Lorne Michaels. It’s so fun. It’s such an iconic show to be there and do it after all these lockdowns and the whole year we’ve gone through. It’s my first time back in New York in a long time so it was really, really special for sure.

AllHipHop: You mention leaving Kanye’s band to focus on your own artistry. How difficult was that decision for you? What was his reaction to it?

Jeff Bhasker: Man, it was super difficult because he’s my mentor. He’s my teacher. He’s family at that time. We were rolling so deep to go out there and see that, I think he was kind of hurt by it. We had a pretty close inner circle. There were not a lot of people around. It was Plain Pat, me and a number of people, but not like it is now. It’s such a huge organization. I don’t know, I can only speculate. I haven’t really talked to him about this and I don’t want to speak for him, but he was upset [laughs]. I did not get the call to go to the next studio sessions, and that was it for a while. And then gradually, he called me again.

AllHipHop: How long is a while?

Jeff Bhasker: I don’t remember exactly, maybe a year or two. I think it hurt him, I’m gonna guess, but for all the right reasons. Because it means I’m grateful, so grateful for all the opportunities he gave me. Most of all for believing in me. For taking what I had to offer and bringing it into the world, just rubbing off some of the magic that he has on me. It was a tough decision but ultimately, it was the right decision because I can’t live for someone else. I gotta live for me, even if it is the almighty Kanye West.

AllHipHop: What did it mean to have a song on Donda?

Jeff Bhasker: Well there ya go, it all came back full circle. To come together and feel the love from him, there’s a lot of mutual respect and love there. He’s one of the greatest people and most inspiring people in my life. He’s in my dreams. I don’t know if it’s PTSD or some psychic connection, but I’ll dream about him, then he’ll call. I’m not a weary person like that. I’m a pretty science-based thinker, but that stuff happens. He means a lot to me in my life and always will.

AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let the people know?

Jeff Bhasker: Man that’s it, just keep your eyes peeled. I’m grateful and humbled everyday to be in this amazing industry. There’s a lot of negativity, a lot of corruption or backstabbing. To aspiring producers or composers, pay attention to the red flags. Get around and work around positive people. If there’s a red flag or something doesn’t sit right with you, there’s a reason for that. You also need a family and a team and a circle that feels positive, then you might need to move on from that too later. But you’re going to keep growing. Find your tribe and find your people. Find your collaborators that challenge you and inspire you.

Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin” Jumps Into The Hot 100 Chart’s Top 10

Kodak Black made headlines in recent weeks for getting arrested in Florida and challenging Jay-Z to a Verzuz battle. The 24-year-old southerner is now making news for a hit song.

“Super Gremlin” first landed on DSPs in October 2021 as part of the Sniper Gang Presents Syko Bob & Snapkatt: Nightmare Babie project. The single has finally risen into the Top 10 of this week’s Hot 100 chart.

After jumping six spots on Billboard‘s latest Hot 100 tally, Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin” reached a new peak at #10. Black now has three career Top Tenners following “Tunnel Vision” in 2017 (#6) and “ZEZE” featuring Travis Scott and Offset in 2018 (#2).

“Super Gremlin” opened at #97 back in October. So far, the Atl Jacob-produced track has spent nine total weeks on the Hot 100 chart. Five of those weeks included Top 40 positions.

Kodak Black went viral on social media back in December after taking part in a “Super Gremlin” reaction video on the ZIAS! YouTube channel. The awkward exchange with Zias and B. Lou caused some viewers to grow concerned about Black’s well-being.

“Lol I B Fakin Like I’m Sleepy Ion B High Guys I Get Drug Tested Consistently,” tweeted Kodak Black at the time. He also added, “Dat mean ion really wanna talk or ain’t hearing what you saying [for real] when I close my eyes like dat! Anyways a n#### be up 18 hrs skr8 everyday grinding.”

UK Rapper Wretch 32 Expands His Popular CBD Brand

Wretch 32 has increased his chain of CBD stores to eight locations across the U.K called Green Machine. He told Complex UK that he was inspired by business moguls and Hip-Hop giants Diddy and Jay-Z to be a person who motivates others

“I think someone like myself, at this point in my career, it’s about thinking: ‘How can I expand?’ What can someone like Digga D look at me and say, ‘As well as the music, I like that Wretch done this, but he also has that and I like that as well, and I aspire to do the same.’”

Wretch 32 Says CBD Works

Everybody came back and was like, ‘Rah! I couldn’t sleep, but now I’m getting a great night’s sleep.’ ‘My acne has cleared up!’” he shared. “After that, I did more reading up on it, then I invested in it, invested time, and was like, ‘You know what? This is actually the future and, at some point, I see this replacing medicine.’ It’s a natural alternative to medicine so I really do see that happening.

Although there are some signs of a move towards decriminalization, cannabis remains a controlled substance in the UK. “CBD is weed without the THC. The THC is what gets you high in weed, so with CBD, we don’t get you high—we just give you all the health benefits,” said Wretch 32. “Our body naturally produces what’s in CBD, but our body can’t produce it to the level of the products that we sell. And it’s cannabinoids, so we’re literally topping you up on stuff that you actually need.

Elsewhere during the interview Wretch 32 discussed fellow Def Jam executive Snoop Dogg and a recent zoom conversation between the entire team. “Yeah, he did a Zoom with the whole team and we had a good chat. We all chopped it up, asked questions, got some game from the guy, and he told us about what his plans were and how he sees things playing out. I just think it’s strong, man. He added, “There’s some elements of genius there that needed to be worked with.”
