Pop Smoke’s Alleged Killer Denied Bail

Corey Walker, one of Pop Smoke’s alleged killers, won’t get out on bail as he awaits trial.

According to The Shade Room, a Los Angeles County judge denied Walker’s request for bail at a hearing on Friday. Walker’s lawyer Christopher Darden has been working on getting his client out of custody for several months, but the latest court proceeding put an end to those efforts.

Walker, who is 20 years old, is the only adult charged in the Pop Smoke murder case. Three teenagers have been charged for the late rapper’s murder in juvenile court.

Prosecutors are not pursuing the death penalty against Walker. If he’s convicted, Pop Smoke’s alleged killer faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Walker is scheduled to return to court in October. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Hilary Williams expects the trial to last three to four weeks.

Pop Smoke, whose real name was Bashar Jackson, was shot and killed in a home invasion in February 2020. Just a few weeks before he was murdered, the rising star dropped his Meet The Woo 2 mixtape. It was his first project to debut in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200.

Two posthumous Pop Smoke albums have been released since his shocking death. Both LPs debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Scarface Doing Great After Receiving Kidney From His Son

Hip-Hop veteran Scarface is recovering after receiving a kidney from his son Chris Jordan.

The former Geto Boys star, real name Brad Jordan, revealed earlier this year that he needed a new kidney after his battle with COVID-19 left him with kidney failure.

And now, after almost a year of regular dialysis treatment to keep him alive, Scarface, 50, is finally on the road to recovery, after his son came forward as a kidney donor.

Chris took to Instagram to share his reasons for becoming a living donor.

“Watching him[Scarface] ill because of kidney failure challenged my entire perspective on family relationships and the importance of being a support system to humanity. I decided to donate a kidney to my Father to help extend his life. This is also important because it’s a jump start to my upcoming initiative the Wayne C. Wilson Quality of Life Foundation,” Chris Jordan revealed. “My goal is to utilize the future foundation to spread the importance of organ donation within the black and brown communities.”

He also posted a video of himself wearing a medical gown while visiting his dad’s hospital room, with the rapper saying to him: “You saved my life, boy. I love you.”

Following the operations, J Prince, the founder of Rap-A-Lot Records, posted a picture of Chris and Scarface both giving a thumbs up to the camera, writing: “Congrats to my brother @brothermob & his son @_iamchrisjordan for giving his father one of his kidneys. I celebrate with the both of you for being an example of unending love. Chris, a lot of people talk about how much they love your dad, but you have separated yourself from the talkers by your actions. We all salute the both of you and wish you both a speedy recovery.”

Nas, Pusha T, And Others Invest $5 Million In Audius Music Platform

Nas, Pusha T, and other musical artists are taking a deep dive into the cryptocurrency industry.

Nas and Pusha T joined the most recent collective of investors responsible for $5 million worth of new funding being funneled into the new platform Audius.

Audius is said to be a new way to consume music. Imagine if the streaming platform Spotify and the music-sharing site Soundcloud had a child, this new entity Audius would be the outcome.

What makes this new being more interesting is that, according to Decrypt.co , it integrates that video-based social media site TikTok into the play and also offers NFT opportunities.

Audius already has six million active users. Via a press statement, Nas shared his excitement for the project.

“I’ve known that blockchain will change the world since I invested in Coinbase five years ago and I believe it might be the most important technology to ever hit the music industry,” Nas explained.

Nas added, “Everyone who uploads to Audius can be an owner, you can’t say that about any other platform.”

According to CoinGecko, since the announcement a day ago, Audius’ AUDIO token is up 23% and is currently valued at $2.69. The platform is continuing to make noise.

In August, the company’s token almost doubled in value in one day — after they announced they were bringing TikTok into the fold. Be on the lookout for even more high-functioning features soon. There is a sneaky suspicion that Audius is just getting started.

Gunna Gives Back To His Old Middle School And Gets His Own Day In South Fulton, GA

Props go out to rapper Gunna for returning to his old middle school and giving back to students that are trailing some of the same hallways he once roamed.

The “Drip Too Hard” chart-topper donated in a major way to the Ronald McNair middle school, hoping to make a difference, though a project he is calling Gunna’s Drip Closet.

And the school, administration, faculty and students, all appreciate the kind gesture. For Gunna, who attended the school under the name Sergio Kitchens, there is more to the gift than just charity. It was an opportunity to invest in tomorrow’s future — as others had done for him.

“This is things I said I was going to do when I got in a position to do it,” Gunna revealed to WSB-TV 2.

Gunna’s Drip Closet will be a resource portal that will have clothing, shoes, food, and even toiletries for students that simply do not have other alternatives.

“Today we opened our first ever FREE in-school @TheGoodrCo grocery school in College Park, GA. Thanks to Hip-Hop Star @1GunnaGunnathis store, built-in his former middle school will serve 900 students and their families for years to come…. #DoGoodr.”

Research from UNESCO Institute for Statistics says that “low socioeconomic status is the main predictor of whether young teens in wealthy countries will experience bullying in school.”

This means kids who are poor are most vulnerable to being picked on and teased simply because they don’t have the same things that kids with just a little more than they do have.

Gunna’s effort hopes to reduce the bullying and also to add dignity to young ones coming up. And while his efforts will help the self-esteem of others, it seems to have also done something for him.

“It just makes me feel like a better person. It just makes me feel like I’m doing what needs to be done for my community,” he shared.

For his efforts, he received his own day. September 16th has officially been declared Gunna Day in South Fulton, Georgia by the city’s mayor, William “Bill” Edwards.

The citation listed the artist’s achievements despite growing up as a child with some challenges, “Just like the Phoenix, rising above the ashes of adversity, Gunna is committed to giving back to the community that raised him, buffered him, sheltered him and supported him by creating Gunna’s Drip Closet and Goodr Grocery Store which is set to provide students of McNair Middle School with access to free meals, clothing, and toiletries for years to come.”

It continued, “Since 2018, through his Gunna Great Giveaway Foundation, Gunna has exhibited his efforts to serve the greater good, by hosting free grocery stores in the community and providing over $100,000 in gift cards to families during the pandemic and supplied thousands of families in Houston, Texas with household items after the 2021 historic winter storms.”

The Georgia native should be proud.

Kodak Black’s Artist WizDaWizard Reportedly Killed In Florida

WizDaWizard, who was signed to Kodak Black’s Sniper Gang imprint, was reportedly found dead in Florida on Friday.

Hallandale Beach Police began an investigation after his body was discovered outside a Hallandale Beach home. Neighbors said no one has lived in the house for months.

According to Miami’s WSVN, a dog walker was the first person to come across the body on Friday morning.

Police were waiting to release the name of the victim until his next of kin could be contacted, but he was quickly identified as WizDaWizard on social media. NBC Miami spoke with Hallandale Beach Police’s Megan Jones, who confirmed the victim was “well-known” in South Florida.

Residents in the area where the body was found said they didn’t hear shots fired or any type of disturbance overnight and in the morning. Police suspect foul play was involved.

Florida rapper Foolio was among those to mourn the death of WizDaWizard. In an Instagram post, he shared pictures and videos of the two along with a heartfelt message.

WizDaWizard’s death added to an already violent day for Florida rappers. Spotemgottem, best known for the hit single “Beat Box,” was hospitalized following a drive-by shooting on Friday morning.

Spotemgottem, who was riding in the passenger seat of a car, was shot multiple times in his legs. The driver suffered a gunshot wound to the hip.

Police suspect the shooting was a road rage incident. The shooter allegedly fired over 20 bullets at the vehicle.

Moosie Wins Features Comedians Shiggy, Mr. Commodore In “McLovin” Video

Moosie Wins lives to entertain. With 63K YouTube views, his new video for “McLOVIN” takes fans on a trip down memory lane. It all starts with several good friends planning a house party.

Witease Music, a music production company and independent record label, revealed the launch of Moosie’s new single “McLOVIN” along with its visuals. The Brooklyn native can expect the track to make waves through clubs and streaming platforms.

When asked what inspired the music video concept, Moosie explained that he sought to create his version of the 2007 film Superbad. The song itself was written in 2020. Next, the Brooklyn native immediately tapped producers Ty Fyffe and Just Max, who perfectly mixed and mastered the record.

After a year of having the song in the vault, the rapper was excited about taking “McLOVIN” to the next level. To add a high level of comedic relief, Moosie decided to involve two notable comedians, like Shiggy, the viral comedic sensation and Mr. Commodore, Harlem’s own traveling stand-up comedian. It was remarkable to witness how their energy matched the single’s lyrical content.

Sara Stone plays McLovin’s love interest in the video. Moreover, the visual includes guest appearances by comedian DownGoesFraser and Brooklyn rapper Phresher. It wouldn’t be contagious comedy without featuring Shiggy’s dance moves. High Life Media’s directing meshed well with the track’s musical production.

Be sure to listen to Moosie Wins on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and Instagram. In anticipation for future music releases, check out Don’t Kill My Vibe, Moosie’s latest project released earlier this year.

Agnew was shot in front of a venue called Club Tropics when he was shot and killed in front of multiple witnesses. The Dallas cops claimed SpotemGottem boasted about the murder in a video he made on the social media site, Triller.

However, Spotemgottem’s lawyer denied “the libelous statements made” by a Dallas cop and threatened to sue the department.

In July, the rapper was arrested in Aventura, Florida, after U.S. Marshals raided his hotel room and found him lying in bed with an AK-47.

NFL Tragedy: Former Giants Star Brandon Short’s Pregnant Daughter Shot & Killed

Tragedy has once again struck the NFL.

This time, former Giants star Brandon Short has suffered a loss.

According to USA Today, Short’s daughter Karli was killed in a tragic shooting in McKeesport, PA, on September 13. The NFL star made the announcement on his Facebook page.

“My heart is broken,” he wrote. “I’ve lost the light of my life, my oldest daughter Karli passed away this morning in a senseless act of gun violence. The love she had was so pure and true. The world lost a beautiful soul. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and please keep our family in your prayers as we struggle through this difficult time.”

Karli Short was 26 years old, and five months pregnant, at the time of her murder. No arrests have been made as of this writing.

Short is the second NFL star this week to lose a child. Earlier this week, former New England Patriots star Kevin Faulk lost his 19-year-old daughter, Kevione, in New Orleans, LA. It’s unclear what Kevione Faulk died from.

There’s so much senseless tragedy going on that there are, literally, no words left. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the NFL stars.

R. Kelly’s Assistant Laughs About His Victims’ Fate On ‘Good Morning America’

Diana Copeland, the longtime assistant of R Kelly who testified in his criminal trial earlier this week, is now working the talk show circuit.

Copeland sat down with Good Morning America host Michael Strahan to talk exclusively about her time working with the disgraced singer.

As she laughed about his victims having to show a certain “decorum” and not “roam around his house like it was a museum,” Copeland insisted that she never witnessed any of the abuse that R Kelly allegedly committed against underage girls.

Copeland then went into full groupie mode, squealing like a schoolgirl about working for the R&B singer who has been having inappropriate “relationships” with children since at least the 1990s.

“It was incredible,” Copeland told GMA about R Kelly. “I’m just a suburban girl from Michigan and so stepping into that world was like, incredible. You know, one day I’m hugging Whitney Houston and then the next day I might be on [the] set of Lady Gaga.”

Yes, girl, you’re definitely winning. No matter that these children are being held against their will (allegedly, of course, since unfortunately for all of us, R Kelly hasn’t been convicted yet), or that they’re subjected to untold amounts of sexual abuse. No, Diana, what matters is that you got to hug Lady Gaga. Tee hee!

People disgust me.

Trinidad’s Health Minister Appears On ‘The Daily Show’ To Debunk Nicki Minaj’s #BallGate Tweet

Nicki Minaj caused an international scandal thanks to the “Bed of Lies” rapper tweeting misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine. For the last several days, people from around the world weighed in on what has become known as #BallGate.

While Nicki Minaj did state that she would likely get the vaccine in preparation for her going on tour in the future, a series of tweets from the Trinidad and Tobago-born recording artist appeared to suggest she was vaccine-hesitant. One particular social media post went über-viral.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” tweeted Minaj on Monday.

Nicki Minaj was widely condemned for suggesting impotence and enlarged genitalia were side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. MSNBC political commentator Joy Reid, NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other public figures spoke out against the 38-year-old entertainer essentially telling her 22 million Twitter followers to be skeptical of getting vaccinated.

Even the Minister of Health for Trinidad and Tobago had to inform his nation that there have not been any reported incidents of swollen testicles caused by the vaccine. Terrence Deyalsingh also made an appearance on The Daily Show to address the matter.

“We are confident that we have brought WHO-approved vaccines to Trinidad and Tobago. And with those million doses, we have administered to date, there have only been five cases of adverse events, all reported to WHO. None of them includes testicular swelling,” Terrence Deyalsingh told The Daily Show‘s Trevor Noah.

Deyalsingh later added, “My message to the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora, anywhere that you are, is that vaccines are safe, vaccines are effective… The message to the Caribbean diaspora is spread the word to get vaccinated to save your life so we can get back to our Caribbean way of life.”

According to reports, the majority of people in the United States that are currently being hospitalized and killed by COVID-19 are unvaccinated. Research has found that unvaccinated people are eleven times more likely to die from COVID-19 than fully vaccinated people.

Katt Williams Talks Possibly Facing Kevin Hart In A ‘Verzuz’ Battle

This week has been consumed by a lot of conversation around a potential Verzuz event involving super-producers Jermaine Dupri and Sean “Diddy” Combs. But what about a faceoff between two stand-up comedy legends?

Katt Williams recently spoke about going head-to-head against Kevin Hart in a Verzuz battle. 92Q radio personality Persia Nicole asked the Friday After Next star about that possible matchup.

“Had a chance to chop it up with @kattwilliams & asked if he would be down with doing a @verzuztv battle with @kevinhart4real & uhhh his response 🥴😭,” wrote Persia Nicole in her Instagram caption.

Katt Williams responded by saying he essentially started the idea of Verzuz with the “Katt Williams vs Steve Harvey” contest for the title of King Of Comedy in 2009. When it comes to another battle, Williams believes no opponent could match him except for the late Richard Pryor.

“Comedically beefing is my lane. It’s almost cheating for me. I have over ten specials,” Katt Williams told Persia Nicole. “So I don’t have to pick but two jokes from each special and I’ve already deaded anybody whose last name isn’t Pryor anyway.”

Katt Williams continued, “It’s almost a battle we can’t afford to be in, because he’s on his sixteenth 100-city tour. So it probably don’t match up the way you think it match up… So yeah, I’m saying I wouldn’t involve me.”

In 2018, Kevin Hart and Katt Williams were involved in a public back-and-forth after the Emmy winner dissed Hart’s comedic protégé Tiffany Haddish. Williams later apologized for suggesting Haddish was only successful because she wants to have sex with white men.

Tyga Responds To Rumors He Was Involved With Trans Model Nikita Dragun

Last month, tweets from Blac Chyna’s Twitter account claimed her ex-boyfriend Tyga was attracted to transgender women. Chyna later insisted she was hacked, but another person has seemingly co-signed the sentiment of those tweets.

Transgender model Nikita Dragun released a video for her song “D***” that included what appeared to be screenshots of direct messages from Tyga. The alleged DM simply read, “Text me.”

The clip caused outside onlookers to assume Tyga slid in Nikita Dragun’s DMs in order to shoot his shot at the social media influencer. Tyga has now come out to address Nikita Dragun’s “D***” post.

“My company shot and directed a music video for her a while back that never dropped. Not sure why she added my likeness to this,” tweeted Tyga on Thursday. He added, “Ladies and gentlemen clout kills.”

This is not the first time Tyga has been romantically linked to a transgender woman. Back in 2016, pornographic actress Mia Isabella claimed the 31-year-old “Rack City” rapper exchanged sexual text messages with her as well.

Lil Nas X Gives Birth To His New Album ‘Montero’

As part of the promotional rollout for his new Montero album, Lil Nas X pretended to be pregnant with his debut studio LP. The Georgia-bred performer birthed the project today (September 17).

Montero arrived at midnight with guest features by Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, and Miley Cyrus. The 15-track album was executive produced by Take A Daytrip.

In addition, Lil Nas X dropped a music video for the track “Thats What I Want.” The STILLZ-directed visuals, which includes a cameo from Billy Porter, quickly began trending on YouTube.

Visualizers for several Montero tracks were also published on Lil Nas X’s YouTube channel in support of the Gilead COMPASS Initiative. The organization works to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the southern part of the United States. Gilead is matching all donations up to $25,000 per charity.

Wendy Williams Reportedly Hospitalized For Psychiatric Evaluation

The Queen of Celebrity Gossip appears to be dealing with a serious mental health situation. Wendy Williams was voluntarily admitted to a New York City hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, according to reports.

A new TMZ article claims the 57-year-old talk show host was hospitalized a day before it was announced the debut of the new season of The Wendy Williams Show was being delayed. The program was scheduled to return on September 20 before being pushed back to October 4.

Wendy Williams reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 as well. Apparently, she was fully vaccinated but still contracted a “breakthrough” case of coronavirus. The daytime television veteran is said to be asymptomatic.

“To allow Wendy time to quarantine and fully recover and to ensure that our production fully abides by SAG/AFTRA and DGA Covid protocols, we expect to begin the 13th season of The Wendy Williams Show on Monday, October 4th,” read a statement from the show’s producers.

Lil Mo Says Fat Joe’s “Verzuz” Comments Were “Vile” and “Disrespectful”

Fat Joe went head-to-head with Ja Rule in a “Verzuz” battle earlier this week and he’s been making headlines ever since…for all the wrong reasons.

During the performance, Ja Rule tried to suggest Fat Joe needed Remy Ma to save him saying, “Ya’ll see somebody come out here with me? Me neither. You had to bring Remy to save you, this is fu*king pathetic.”

The “Terror Squad” rapper hit back with a rebuttal referring to Ja’s guests, who he had yet to bring out. “Oh, them dusty bit*hes. You had to go to the crack house to find them bit*hes.” Ja Rule’s guests were Lil Mo and Vita and who were backstage at the time.

She also speaks about being triggered herself having overcome a battle with opioid addiction herself.

“It was so vile and I think it was just like really disappointing and disheartening,” stating she was there to support both artists and the “Verzuz” itself. “Me nor any female that was in the building on that stage should have never been verbally attacked.”

She ends by saying, “I never got a formal apology. You can’t tell me how I’m supposed to feel. I’m not looking for no Birkin bag but I know how the streets work. I don’t want it to go that way.”

Lil Baby Scammed for “$400K” Rare Patek Phillipe Watch

Lil Baby recently got scammed to the tune of $400,000! The rapper bought what he thought was a rare 40th anniversary Patek Phillipe watch and did what all self-respecting rappers do…he took to Instagram to show it off.

Nas Reveals “Mentally and Physically Hard” Battle With COVID-19

In Ebony magazine’s October issue, the “King’s Disease II” rapper details his struggle with the virus among other issues.

Explaining how he coped as an artist during the past 18 months of the pandemic he talked about working with super producer Hit-Boy and creating some of his most celebrated work. However, he talks about the tribulations he went through at the time.

“I caught COVID in late October,” he reveals. “This is the first time [I’m] mentioning it. It was a tough time. It was mentally and physically hard. It’s just today’s world, with chemical warfare, crazy politics, racism, food shortages, police malpractice, Black-on-Black murder. The human spirit is being tested. I think that God has a plan for all of this. But right now, we’re in a serious time.”

Nas also spoke about his entrepreneurship, he founded venture capital firm Queensbridge Venture Partners with his manager, Anthony Saleh back in 2014. He has a significant number of other business ventures, most recently becoming a co-owner and equity partner of Escobar Cigars.

“I got people that stop me in the street to ask me about investment tips more than music,” Nas reflects. “It’s really crazy, man. I met another Black man named Nasir; he’s doing his thing. He told me how I’m inspirational to him in that world of investors and fundraising. That’s what I get a lot now. That’s really rewarding. It used to be only, ‘I’m inspired by you to rap,’ which I still hear, and I still love it. But it’s about letting people know, ‘This is what I’m doing. You do it, too.’ ”

Speaking on his longevity in the industry he says, “You can overthink yourself out of the industry. You can become your worst enemy. The rules are keep your integrity, hustle, and work on your craft. That’s all that matters.”

Nas recently celebrated his 48th Birthday and dropped the visuals for “Brunch on Sundays.”

Rapper Drake also revealed recently that he contracted COVID-19 and like Nas, kept it private until sometime later.

Rolling Stone Rewrites The “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” – Which Rap Songs Made The Cut?

Back in 2004, Rolling Stone compiled a list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” and now they’re remaking it for the first time! They got together a group of some of the music industry’s leading figures to collate a brand new list adding in new classics, old favorites, and some anthems that changed the world.

Rolling Stone polled more than 250 artists, musicians, and producers as well as figures from the music industry and leading critics and journalists to create the 2021 version of the list. Contributors were asked to submit a ranked list of their 50 top songs totaling almost 4,000 songs and Rolling Stone tabulated the results.

The 2004 version of the list was heavy with early rock and soul hits whereas the new edition is a much more diverse palette with more hip-hop, modern country, indie rock, Latin pop, reggae, and R&B songs. More than half of the 500 songs and a third of the Top 100 are brand new entries and were not featured on the original list.

Hip-Hop is featured throughout the list with Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power,” one of the most significant Rap songs of all time coming in at second place on the list. Second only to Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” which they crowned “The Greatest Song of All Time.”

Legendary Hip-Hop duo OutKast and Icon Missy Elliot also secured their places in the Top Ten with “Hey Ya” and “Get Ya Freak On” respectively.

Some other notable Hip-Hop and RnB tracks also made the cut.
