Sooo…Who “Passed” On The Grammys Hip-Hop Fest?

Last night, the Grammys celebrated 50 years of Hip-Hop in a grand fashion. It was an amazing night that culminated, a groundbreaking, revolutionary culture that is turned into a multi-billion dollar industry. Well, you already know there was going to be some controversy.

A lot of people were upset that certain folks were not included in the montage that was representative of 50 years of Hip-Hop. First of all, it should be noted that this was curated by Questlove of The Roots crew. So he was the one that pulled all of this together. I suspect Roc Nation, and LL Cool J might’ve had some say so as well, but that has not been confirmed. At any rate, it was stellar, but some people had some thing to say about it. LL made sure we understood (OVERSTOOD) that everybody could not be included. But that didn’t stop the chatter.

But, what I want to stress is that I knew, for a fact, that some people turned it down. And I don’t know why in the world anybody would turn it down, but they did. IT WAS THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HIP-HOP! The question is: who turned it down? That part I do not know. But as sure as the snow is white, they said no. From what I understand, T.I. was invited to perform, but was unable to because of a commitment that he could not get out of. So, had he been able, he would’ve been there.

What do you think? And, did you hear anything about anyone saying no to the Grammys?

There were plenty people that said “Yes!” Our team was there for it all. Check this out.

Nicki Minaj & Husband Kenneth Petty Sued By Ex-Security For $750K

Kenneth Petty, the husband of international pop star Nicki Minaj is facing a hefty lawsuit. According to The Blast, a lawsuit has been filed by one of the former members of her security detail, claiming the Queens native and Petty attacked him while he was on duty.

Thomas Weidenmuller, a German citizen, is suing the couple for battery and the infliction of emotional distress after he was allegedly beaten up by Petty in 2019. The guard is seeking $753,958.51 in damages. Almost four years ago, while the “Anaconda” chart-topper was performing a Frankfurt, Germany concert, security didn’t stop a fan from jumping onstage during Minaj’s performance.

Weidenmuller was the head of the security detail at the time and was responsible for the slip-up, according to Minaj and her spouse.

Court documents state, “Concertgoer breached a security barricade dividing the audience from the stage and was able to get on stage while Minaj was performing. In obtaining access to the stage, the concertgoer bypassed a female security guard stationed at the stairs leading to the stage.”

The bodyguard contends, “The concertgoer did not cause harm to any other person, nor did he damage any property during or after his limited time on stage.  He simply danced on stage to the music. He did not attempt to, and did not actually, make any physical contact with Minaj while on stage.”

According to the security guard, Minaj’s entourage, including Petty, went off and was “irate during this confrontation and screamed at the female security guard that she was a f##ing b#### and accused her of having put Minaj in physical danger.

“During the confrontation, the female security guard was in tears and apologized to Minaj,” the report says, before insisting she “tell Minaj’s fans, via the recording [on her cell phone], that she failed to do her job and put Minaj in danger.”

It’s alleged the rapper proceeded to take off her shoes and throw them at the security guard but missed.

The docs read, “Without warning, Petty PUNCHED Weidenmuller from the side and made contact with the right side of [his] face,” leaving the security guard in the hospital for 10 days.

They continued, “After two or three minutes, and under the belief that his jaw was broken, Weidenmuller turned the corner again, returning to the location where Petty hit him.”

Quavo Reportedly Got In Physical Fight With Offset Backstage At 2023 Grammys

Family business spilled over into the mainstream during the 2023 Grammy Awards, after Migos’ members Quavo and Offset got into fisticuffs backstage.

According to TMZ, right before Quavo performed his touching tribute “Without You” during the “In Memoriam” segment of the show, he and his cousin Offset physically fought. The dispute was over who was going to do the remembrance on-air.

Rumors state Quavo intentionally blocked Offset, even down to refusing to let him join the stage and initiated the cousin-on-cousin violence.

This doesn’t come from out of nowhere. There has been friction with Offset, the group and the Quality Control label prior to Takeoff’s tragic death.

AllHipHop reports just a week ago, officials at QC accused Offset of breaching his contract in several ways.

As the business goes, Offset sued Quality Control to prevent the record label from receiving revenue for his solo work. He contends that in 2021, he negotiated a settlement with Quality Control Music giving him ownership rights to his own recordings and songwriting credits.

Quality Control believes Offset doesn’t own the recordings released by Motown—such as “54321” and “Code”—which negates his lawsuit. QC also argued Set breached the settlement agreement by violating the confidentiality provision.

Also, things have been popping up on the internet to suggest the relationship with the Rocket Man wasn’t as solid as he would think. This was floated in the Million Dollaz Worth of Game interview with J Prince about his relationship with the family.

“Ain’t nothing changed with my love for Quavo,” the Rap-A-Lot Founder states in the interview. “But the Offset dude.”

He continued. “N##### be throwing rocks and hiding they hand, and I don’t like them kind of individuals. In reality, the truth of the matter is, n#### you wasn’t really right there with Takeoff when he was alive. So, for you to be taking these positions you taking,” he said, adding that he hears “all kinds of things.”

J. Prince then addressed Offset directly, issuing him with a warning. “Don’t ever put me in a position where I have to defend myself,” he declared. “That wouldn’t be healthy for you.”

Offset caught wind of the interview and took to Instagram with a video response.

“Y’all n##### speaking on my real brother,” he began. “How dare one of y’all n##### even speak on me and Take relationship I don’t know you n##### from a can of paint. Ya’ll n##### don’t know how me and my brother rock.”

He also blasted J. Prince for continuing to discuss Takeoff in numerous interviews. “You ain’t think about their momma?” he questioned, before adding, “We ain’t said nothing. Ain’t nobody said nothing but you n#####.”

Offset accused Prince of acting on hearsay and said he’s not about to play “internet games” with the music exec. “Call my phone, we’ll have a conversation,” he concluded. Check out the clip below.

As far as the Grammys squabble, Quavo’s “Without You” was written specifically for Takeoff by him.

Praying for peace in this family.

Watch The Teaser Trailer For The ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ Remake Starring Jack Harlow

Charles “Calmatic” Kidd II (House Party) directed the forthcoming White Men Can’t Jump motion picture. Kentucky-raised rapper Jack Harlow plays one of the main characters in the sports movie.

White Men Can’t Jump also stars Sinqua Walls (American Soul). In addition to Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls, the cast includes Lance Reddick (The Wire), Teyana Taylor (Coming 2 America), Vince Staples (Dope), and Andrew Schulz (You People).

20th Century Studios presented the official First Look teaser trailer for White Men Can’t Jump. As of press time, the video is trending at #7 on YouTube with over 147,000 views in under twenty-four hours.

Kenya Barris wrote the new version of White Men Can’t Jump. The creator of the Black-ish and Grown-ish sitcoms previously penned the scripts for Barbershop: The Next Cut, Girls Trip, Coming 2 America, and You People.

The original Ron Shelton-directed White Men Can’t Jump came out in 1992. Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson handled the lead roles. Rosie Perez, Tyra Ferrell, Cylk Cozart, and Kadeem Hardison had supporting parts.

“I know he can play some ball. I heard that he rhymes. That’ll add a whole different flair to it. They don’t have to go the typical way they went the first time,” said Kadeem Hardison about Jack Harlow starring in the sequel. “So it could be interesting.”

Jack Harlow is best known for releasing his Top 40 hits “Whats Poppin,” “Tyler Herro,” “Industry Baby,” “Nail Tech,” and “First Class.” The 24-year-old Atlantic Records/Generation Now recording artist earned three Grammy Award nominations at the 2023 ceremony.

1992’s White Men Can’t Jump grossed more than $90 million at the global box office and $76 million domestically. The 2023 edition is scheduled to be released on May 19 as a Hulu original. Jack Harlow’s Generation Now boss, DJ Drama, will oversee the movie’s soundtrack.

Ty Dolla Sign, Miguel, Omarion & More Congratulate Robert Glasper On His Grammy Win

Pianist/producer/songwriter Robert Glasper is now a five-time Grammy winner. His Black Radio III won Best R&B Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

There was some controversy surrounding Robert Glasper’s Best R&B Album victory. Fellow nominee Chris Brown took to his Instagram Story to blast the Recording Academy’s decision.

“Who the f### is Robert Glasper?” posted Chris Brown on the social media platform. He also added, “Ima keep kicking y’all ass! Respectfully… I gotta get my skills up… Ima start playing the harmonica.”

Meanwhile, Glasper showed appreciation to his collaborators and supporters. While Chris Brown apparently felt robbed that Breezy (Deluxe) did not succeed in the category, other R&B stars celebrated Black Radio III winning Best R&B Album.

“Thank you to all the INCREDIBLE artists and musicians that were a part of this record. And my team Vinnie, Dana, Leandra, Becca, Freda, Shawn, Loma Vista, The Recording Academy, and YOU my fans!! I couldn’t have done this without y’all!” wrote Glasper on Instagram.

Melii Responds To Backlash From Beyoncé Fans After Commenting About LGBTQ Community

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter was the main topic of conversation on Grammy night. The Renaissance album creator broke the record for most all-time wins by collecting her 32nd golden gramophone.

Rapper/singer Melii’s social media commentary had some Beyoncé stans on the attack. The Tory Lanez protégé found herself in the BeyHive’s crosshairs over a now-deleted subliminal tweet.

“A lot of [people’s] careers were dead and they later used the LGBTQ community to revive it and y’all ate that up,” posted Melii.

Many Twitter users took Melii’s remarks as a shot at Beyoncé because the music icon recently faced criticism for performing in the United Arab Emirates. Same-sex sexual activity is reportedly illegal in the country.

In addition, some critics also took issue with Beyoncé’s 2022 studio LP Renaissance for supposedly appropriating Black queer culture. However, some LGBTQ listeners praised Bey for her House-inspired project.

As the BeyHive began targeting Melii for her previous statement, the “Have U Seen Her?” performer pushed back on the idea she was talking about Beyoncé. She insisted her subtweet was not about the woman also known as Queen Bey.

“Oh, wait… never did ya think I referred to Beyoncé? Are ya dumb? U mean the lady who used my song to promote her brand. The reach was crazy… I’d never disrespect Beyoncé. Ya don’t gotta like me but to just lie [and] try [to] find a reason to be mad is ridiculous,” tweeted Melii.

Beyoncé won four Grammys at the 65th Annual ceremony on Sunday. Renaissance took home the Best Dance/Electronic Album honor. The tracks “Break My Soul,” “Plastic Off the Sofa,” and “Cuff It” also won awards.

“I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing the genre,” said Beyoncé during her televised acceptance speech for winning Best Dance/Electronic Album.

Smokey Robinson Addresses Freaky Song Titles For Upcoming ‘Gasms’ Album

William “Smokey” Robinson Jr. is one of the most celebrated singer-songwriters in music history. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is preparing to release his new album, Gasms, on April 28.

Gasms has already gone viral on social media thanks to the project’s tracklist. Song names such as “I Wanna Know Your Body,” “Roll Around,” “You Fill Me Up,” and “I Fit In There” piqued people’s interest.

Hollywood Unlocked caught up with Smokey Robinson on the red carpet for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday. The 82-year-old Soul legend explained his motivations for his suggestive track titles.

“I wanted people to be curious. You know? People will say, ‘I gotta hear that to see what he’s talking about.’ So that’s what the purpose was,” said Robinson.

The Recording Academy honored Smokey Robinson at last night’s ceremony. Stevie Wonder and Chris Stapleton took the stage in order to pay tribute to Robinson and Motown Records founder Berry Gordy.

Additionally, Smokey Robinson performed “The Tears of a Clown” during the Motown set. He also presented the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award to Sam Smith and Kim Petras for their “Unholy” collaboration.

Smokey Robinson won his only Grammy Award in 1988 for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (“Just to See Her”). The Detroit native has scored 6 nominations as a soloist and another nomination as a member of The Miracles.

Throughout his career, Robinson released albums such as 1977’s Deep in My Soul, 1980’s Warm Thoughts, 1981’s Being with You, 1987’s One Heartbeat, 1991’s Double Good Everything, 2006’s Timeless Love, and 2014’s Smokey & Friends.

Maverick City Music Ties Beyoncé For Most Wins At 2023 Grammys

The Recording Academy presented its 65th Annual Grammy Awards last night (February 5). Two acts, Beyoncé and Maverick City Music, left the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles with the most wins of the night.

Beyoncé made history by becoming the most-awarded artist in Grammy history with her 32nd victory. In addition, Contemporary gospel collective Maverick City Music also picked up four trophies at the ceremony.

Yesterday, MCM won Best Gospel Performance/Song for “Kingdom” and Best Gospel Album for Kingdom Book One. They created both the song and the album with Gospel legend Kirk Franklin.

“Everything about this project broke the mold for what ‘success’ is supposed to look and feel like. We recorded this record, Kingdom, with our dear brother Kirk Franklin, during one of the largest prison gatherings in American history,” stated Tony Brown and Jonathan “JJ” Jay.

The Maverick City Music co-founders continued, “⁣We decided to go behind bars to not just highlight the pain of mass incarceration, but to demonstrate God’s love in a way that you don’t see very often.”

Maverick City Music Helped Pay Tribute To Takeoff At The Grammys

The Recording Academy also named “Fear Is Not My Future” with Kirk Franklin as Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song. Maverick City Music’s Breathe won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album too.

Plus, Maverick City Music performed on this year’s Grammy Award broadcast as part of a tribute to late Migos member Kirsnick “Takeoff” Ball. The Atlanta-based, multicultural group joined fellow Migos representative Quavo for the set.

Tony Brown, Jonathan Jay, Chandler Moore, Brandon Lake, Naomi Raine, MJ George, Harold Brown, Lizzie Morgan, and Aaron Moses make up Maverick City Music. Kirk Franklin and the Tribl Records-backed ensemble also joined forces for the Kingdom Arena Tour in 2022.

“Having 13,000 people in a room worshiping and encountering God together feels like the good old days,” said Brown. “It’s something unspeakable. These rooms are a representation of what church looks like, all nations and backgrounds coming together to love God and one another.”

Offset Responds To J. Prince’s Threat, Refuses To Play “Internet Games”

Offset fired back at J. Prince after the Rap-A-Lot Records founder sent him a menacing message.

The platinum-selling recording artist was responding to Prince’s comments during his recent appearance on Million Dollaz Worth of Game. According to J. Prince, despite how it appears from the outside, Offset wasn’t there for Takeoff when he was alive.

“Aint nothing changed with my love for Quavo,” the Mob Ties founder told Gillie and Wallo.

Then, J. Prince addressed Offset directly, issuing him with a warning. “Don’t ever put me in a position where I have to defend myself,” he declared. “That wouldn’t be healthy for you.”

“Beyoncé Should Have Won” Harry Styles Heckled While Accepting Grammys Album of the Year

A Beyoncé fan was determined to have their Kanye West moment, heckling Harry Styles during his Album of the Year acceptance speech.

The Renaissance creator was a fan favorite to win the coveted award for her seventh studio LP. However, the British former One Direction member earned the win on the night for his chart-topping offering, Harry’s House.

Despite being nominated for Album of the Year four times in her career, Beyoncé has yet to win. The BeyHive felt this was her year and reacted loudly when Styles’ name was read out. Fans on social media fired off tweets and comments, but those in the building went the Kanye route.

Ye went viral after famously storming the stage at the 2009 VMAs as Taylor Swift attempted to accept her award for Best Video by a Female Artist. “I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” he said after grabbing the mic from the confused singer.

Although nobody took over the stage, a few Beyoncé stans reacted angrily, calling out her name while Harry Styles addressed the crowd. One particularly loud BeyHive member screamed, “Beyoncé should have won!” causing a hush to descend over the audience at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Check out the clip below.

In other clips, fans can be heard shouting Bey’s name while Styles delivered his acceptance speech.

Although Beyoncé failed to win the Album of the Year category, she was the biggest winner of the night. She led the Grammy nominations with nine nods. Her four wins make Bey the most decorated Grammys artist of all time, with a career total of 32 wins.

Watch: Jay-Z Closes 2023 Grammys Performing ‘God Did’ With DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, John Legend and Fridayy

Jay-Z returned to the Grammys stage for the first time in almost a decade, closing out the ceremony with DJ Khaled and his “God Did” collaborators.

Hov delivered a flawless performance of his much-hyped verse on the track which was nominated for two of the night’s awards. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, John Legend and Fridayy joined Jay-Z and Khaled on the stage set like the Last Supper.

DJ Khaled dropped to his knees with his hands held up to the sky while Rick Ross rapped his verse. Check out the performance shared by Roc Nation below.

Khaled’s “God Did” was in the running for three awards tonight, including Song of The Year but lost out in all categories. Bonnie Raitt’s “Just Like That” won the coveted trophy beating out the likes of Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5,” and Lizzo’s “About Damn Time.”

Jay-Z last performed at the Grammys in 2014 when he opened the show with “Drunk In Love” alongside his wife Beyoncé. While Bey left performing duties to her husband this year, she did clear up on the night.

The billion-dollar power couple was up for a combined 14 nominations on Sunday night. Beyoncé was nominated for nine awards and won four making her the most decorated Grammys artist of all time with a career total of 32 wins.

Further cementing their legendary status, Beyoncé and Jay-Z sit atop the list of most career Grammy nominations in history, with 88 each. Hov has 24 of the celebrated awards under his belt.

2023 Grammys Epic Hip-Hop 50th Anniversary Show Ft. Method Man, Missy Elliott, Swizz Beatz & The Lox, Lil Uzi & More

The Recording Academy paid tribute to 50 years of Hip-Hip with a star-studded cast performing five decades of hits during the 2023 Grammys Sunday night.

Hip-Hop is celebrating its 50th anniversary later this year, and commemorative events are happening worldwide. The Grammys paid homage with an epic 10-minute-long segment with performances by influential artists from Hip-Hop’s past, present, and future. Check out the clips at the end of the page.

Ll Cool J led the all-star segment produced by Questlove, with fellow The Roots member providing the opening narration. The show kicked off with Hip-Hop pioneers Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Melle Mel, and Rahiem of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five with the iconic track “The Message.”

Among the 1980s acts that followed were Rakim, Run-DMC, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Public Enemy, and Ice T. Segment host Ll Cool J also rocked the stage as did Salt-N-Pepa, Chuck D, and Flavor Flav.

Method Man, Missy Elliott, De La Soul, Scarface, and Busta Rhymes & Spliff Star were among the 1990s icons putting on for the Grammys Hip-Hop 50 segment. Queen Latifah was also on hand performing “U.N.I.T.Y.” and introducing the latest generation of rap stars.

Nelly, Big Boi, and Too Short repped for the 2000s, while Swizz Beatz & the Lox, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, and GloRilla highlighted Hip-Hop talent from the 2010s to the present.

“The Grammys didn’t even respect hip-hop for so long”

“The Grammys didn’t even respect hip-hop for so long, and now to be here, to be honored like this, we’ll take it, absolutely,” Ice-T told People from the red carpet as per LA Times.

“You think about it, it’s kinda come full circle, from now being recognized at the Grammys, to now kind of getting our own moment, to celebrate 50 years of what I like to call ‘The best music on the planet,’” Nelly added.

“Hip Hop has been a driving force in the music and culture,” Questlove said, announcing the tribute. “It has had an immeasurable impact on our culture and our world. I have the great privilege of co-curating it with The Roots and the many others that are gonna join us that night. Shout out to CBS and the Recording Academy for making this happen, and thank you for honoring Hip-Hop with such a high-profile celebration.”

Beyoncé Makes History: Breaks Record For All-Time Grammys Wins

Beyoncé propelled herself into the history books at the 2023 Grammys.

The chart-topping songstress is now the most decorated artist in Grammy’s history after earning her 32nd award for best dance/electronic music album during Sunday night’s ceremony.

An emotional Beyoncé received a standing ovation as she thanked God and her family during her heartfelt acceptance speech. She also paid tribute to her late Uncle Johnny, a gay man who inspired her dancehall album Renaissance and to the queer community for “inventing” the genre.

“Thank you so much. I’m trying not to be too emotional. I’m trying to just receive this night,” Beyoncé stated. “I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God. I’d like to thank my Uncle Johnny, who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit.”

She also thanked her parents “for loving me and pushing me” and “my beautiful husband and my beautiful three children who are at home watching.”

Beyoncé added, “I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre. God bless you. Thank you so much to the Grammys.”

Check out all the winners from The 65th Annual Grammy Awards here.

The Houston native won four Grammys at this year’s show, taking her career total to an unmatched 32. Renaissance was named Best Dance/Electronic Recording, while “Break My Soul” received Best Dance/Electronic Recording. Beyoncé also won Best Traditional R&B Performance with “Plastic Off The Sofa. She finished her total at four with a victory in the Best R&B Song for “Cuff It.”

Unfortunately, Beyoncé was stuck in traffic when “Cuff It” won. However, Trevor Noah made sure “The Queen” received her trophy.

BeyHive member Lizzo almost jumped out of her seat when Bey’s arrival was announced.

Although she earned four awards on the night, Beyoncé jumped the gun with her celebratory post on Instagram. “We won 3 y’all!” she penned in the caption. Check out her post below.

Mary J. Blige Was Terrified Of Success Until She Met Diddy

Mary J. Blige was “afraid of success” when she first entered the music business.

The superstar, known as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, has won nine Grammy Awards over the course of her career.

But during a new interview for People, Mary confessed that she took a long time to accept her status as a trailblazer, and it wasn’t until she met Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in the early ’90s that she began to change her outlook.

“I was not as ambitious as Puff. When I met him, I was afraid of success, afraid to do anything that could put so much attention on me. When you come from where I come from, you’re scared to be ambitious. You’re scared to want more,” she told the outlet. “And then, when I met him, he was the complete opposite. He was such a good thing for me because I needed what he had, to be excited to be seen, to have the lights on him. But it took some years to grow into that.”

Mary, 52, also noted that Diddy, who produced her debut album What’s the 411?, made her see that she deserved her fame and wanted to see her be successful more than she “wanted it” herself.

In turn, the hip-hop legend praised his friend as a “pioneer” and “unstoppable force”.

“(Mary) can accomplish anything she sets her mind to,” he praised.

Mary is currently promoting her fourteenth studio album Good Morning Gorgeous. The record is up for six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Busta Rhymes shared a photo of the soirée to his Instagram account as well, writing simply, “Greatness is present” as he raised a glass to Slick Rick alongside Nas, DJ Pooh, Swizz Beatz and D-Nice.

Bus-A-Bus is also scheduled to perform during the 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony for a special Hip-Hop 50 segment executive produced by Questlove. The Recording Academy last week announced the lineup in a press release they fired off last week.

De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, Future, GloRilla, Ice-T, Lil Wayne, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rakim, RUN-DMC, Scarface, Swizz Beatz and Too $hort are among the many additional performers expected to hit the Grammy stage. LL COOL J will introduce the segment with a dedication, while music will be provided by The Roots and Black Thought will narrate.

Slick Rick released his debut album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick, via Def Jam/Columbia Records in 1988. It topped Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for five nonconsecutive weeks and peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard 200.

DMX’s 10-Year-Old Daughter Launches GoFundMe For Documentary On Drug Addiction

DMX wrestled with drug addiction for most of his adult life—and it ultimately killed him. The Ruff Ryders legend died at White Plains Hospital in April 2021 following a cocaine-induced heart attack. He was just 50 years old. DMX left behind a fiancée and several children, including 10-year-old Sonovah Hillman Jr.

The rapper’s death has clearly had a profound impact on the young girl, so she’s decided to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction. In a video posted to her GoFundMe campaign website, Hillman revealed she’s making a docu-series centered on fentanyl and other illicit drugs.

“I lost my aunt and uncle to a fentanyl overdose and my dad to a drug addiction,” Hillman said. “Fentanyl is affecting every gender, race, class and age group. I wanted to talk to other kids whose parents had died from an overdose or are still currently using. I came up with the idea to do a four-part docuseries on fentanyl and drug addiction. I wanted to talk to people about their experience, trauma, feelings and come up with a solution to healing.”

Hillman has an astronomical goal of $250,000 and so far, she’s only raised about $1,000. As part of the description, Hillman explained her intentions behind the campaign.

“I want to show the world the point of view from a child’s perspective,” she wrote. “I know that others are going through some of the same things. I want to reach out and ask for assistance with some of the production costs to get started. These funds will be used for pre and post-production. All donations are greatly appreciated and will help me get closer to my goal of educating, spreading awareness and saving lives.”

Hillman said she got the idea after the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program hosted a 10-week curriculum at her school. At one point, she saw a clip from Growing Up Hip-Hop in which Master P and Romeo confront the No Limit CEO’s daughter, Tytyana Miller, about her drug abuse. Miller eventually died from the disease. Hillman believes she “can make a difference” with her series by having tough conversations “even adults aren’t ready to have.” To donate to the cause, head here.

EXCLUSIVE: Souls Of Mischief Announce 93-Date Tour For “93 ‘Til Infinity’s” 30th Anniversary

Souls of Mischief has announced the dates for its upcoming tour honoring the 30th anniversary of the Bay Area group’s seminal album, 93 ’til Infinity. The international run consists of 93 stops in cities such as Los Angeles, London, Berlin and Paris. It wraps up at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado on September 17.

“We are most looking forward to the camaraderie between ourselves and seeing so many people from so many places and walks of life come together around Hip Hop,” Tajai tells AllHipHop. As for the seemingly exhaustive schedule, Tajai isn’t sweating it.

He adds, “We’ve done long tours in the past so running out of steam isn’t my concern. The show just improves and evolves. We prepare by rehearsing and making sure we eat right and get proper rest daily.”

The group initially revealed plans for the massive global run speaking to Rock The Bells contributor Kyle Eustice last year. As Tajai explained at the time, “We got the 30th anniversary of 93 ‘Til Infinity coming next year, so we’ve been working with a lot of people about really blowing that out. We’re trying to do 93 shows. I’m getting offers in Europe. I mean, U.S. of course, but Europe, too. I got an offer from Brazil yesterday, so we’re trying to market that. It’s also the 20th anniversary of Full Circle and then also the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop.”

93 ‘Til Infinity was released on September 28, 1993 via Jive Records (despite Wikipedia incorrectly stating it was released in February of that year). It peaked at No. 85 on the Billboard 200 and No. 17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Since then, it’s evolved into an underground Hip-Hop classic. With production from fellow Hiero members Casual, Del The Funky Homosapien, Domino and, of course, A-Plus, the album was a staunch departure from the gangsta rap dominating the West Coast. It also gave the group its first Hot 100 hit after the title track reached No. 72 on the chart. Revisit “93 ‘Til Infinity” below and find more information here.

EXCLUSIVE: J.J. Fad Calls Out Recording Academy Over Hip-Hop 50 Segment: “Make It Make Sense”

The 65th Annual Grammy Awards take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 5). This year’s ceremony boasts a special tribute to Hip-Hop in honor of its 50th anniversary executed produced by Questlove. Among the long list of legendary artists hitting stage are De La Soul, Run-DMC, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. But one groundbreaking trio wasn’t included nor invited.

On Saturday (February 4), Ruthless Records’ first ladies—MC JB, Sassy C and Baby D—shared an Instagram post calling out The Recording Academy for the perceived oversight. After all, in 1989, J.J. Fad became the female rap group to be nominated for a Grammy at a time when the rap categories were brand new.

With a nod in the Best Rap Performance category for their smash hit “Supersonic,” J.J. Fad decided to go, even though their peers were boycotting the awards at the time. While they ultimately lost to the DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince single “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” it’s a decision they never regretted. Understandably, J.J. Fad is wondering why they weren’t considered for the Hip-Hop segment.

“So when the @recordingacademy Grammy’s first introduced the rap category in 1988, we were the first to be nominated in that category,” they wrote. “Now there’s a celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip hop at the Grammy’s and we aren’t invited?? Make it make sense!!”

Speaking to AllHipHop, MC JB explained why she and her fellow J.J. Fad members are hurt by the exclusion.

“We are so honored to have been nominated in the very first rap category at the Grammys,” he says. “We would also never want to take away the importance and amazement of Hip-Hop being around for 50 years. We just want the same respect as any other Hip-Hop artists that have put their stamp on the culture’s history.

“Being female and being from the West Coast and accomplishing what we have, should be celebrated, and we just don’t understand the oversight. We crossed over into the pop world when it wasn’t cool to crossover. Now everyone wants to crossover. That’s setting a precedence.”

Of course, nobody can take away J.J. Fad’s accomplishments or the indelible mark the group left on Hip-Hop, especially when it came to women. J.J. Fad earned the first gold record for Ruthless Records and helped make N.W.A more digestible for the masses. At the end of the day, they aren’t asking for much.

“We just want the same respect as all of our other Hip-Hop brothers and sisters that made a difference in Hip-Hop,” she contends. “We attended the Grammys when we were nominated along with Kool Moe Dee who should also be there representing Hip-Hop. We hate to sound whiny and we aren’t hating on anyone, we just want to be there with our Hip-Hop brothers and sisters and be honored for our contribution to Hip-Hop as well.”
