Shan Vincent De Paul Channels His Inner Muhammed Ali In New Single “Neeye Oli”

On Shan Vincent de Paul’s newest song “Neeye Oli,” produced by award-winning composer Santhosh Narayanan and featuring the compelling Navz-47, Shan is heard on the intro stating “You can’t bury alive anything that was ready to die. You can’t clip wings made of fire, that’s God’s work. The Phoenix saga continues!”

Shan is a jack of all trades, a recording artist, world creator, and visionary if there ever was one. With rapping and visual arts being the core of what he does, the international star dedicates his whole life to his music, creating feel-good, anthemic bops for his growing fanbase.

Hailing from Sri Lanka but landing in Canada as refugees with his family, Shan was a member of multiple rap groups in the Toronto independent music scene before shifting the focus to his solo artistry.

Following the release of his debut album Saviors back in 2016, Shan has since released his sophomore project Trigger Happy Heartbreak and even wrapped his first headlining tour in India.

Fast forward to today, Shan releases his newest collab called “Neeye Oli” tapping Navz-47 and Santhosh Narayanan, following the success of his previous single “Savage.” These singles hold fans over until the release of his forthcoming project, Made In Jaffna, arriving August of this year.

AllHipHop: How would you describe your sound?

Shan Vincent De Paul: I’m not quite sure, I think that’s an evolving thing. Right now it’s a fusion of East and West, but it’s still very much rooted and influenced by American hip-hop. That’s what I grew up on. You know groups like Outkast, De La Soul, Tribe Called Question, Kendrick, Kanye, Biggie, Jay, Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Organized Konfusion, Def Jux, Ruckus. Those movements definitely had a huge inspiration on how I write and put together my music.

AllHipHop: You were listening to them growing up in South Asia?

Shan Vincent De Paul: I moved to Toronto when I was 6. I was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, then my family fled the war there. Moved to Toronto, then Montreal. Went to high school in the suburb called Brampton, pretty much been grounded in Toronto since then. That’s where I found my voice and in a bunch of rap groups, then started my solo career in 2016 when I dropped my debut album.

AllHipHop: I’m guessing Shan Vincent de Paul is your real name?

Shan Vincent De Paul: Yup, real name. Real name, no gimmicks.

AllHipHop: What was the inspiration behind “Neeye Oli”? The song has so much energy.

Shan Vincent De Paul: This was made for a movie released on Amazon Prime. The producer Santhosh Narayanan, he was the musical director for the film so I was lucky to jump on that. It’s a movie about a boxer, he’s telling me about his story of perseverance and I related to it so much. My career has been a lot of resilience and perseverance, having so many go’s at this and figuring out my voice. It came together. Santhosh is really the architect of the song. I knew it’d be on a pretty large platform so I took a very boxer approach to it. I channeled the spirit of Muhammed Ali.

Muhammed Ali was one of those boxers, I put him in the category of artist as well because he was so influential in so many different fields. He was so humble as a human. He’s always for his community but when he got up in the ring, he had this mentality that no one could f### with him. He was the be all and end all of the sport, and I love that. When it comes to rap, I still have that approach. I’m trying to be the best, there’s nobody in the world that could f### with me and that’s the energy I brought to the song. I’m not here to be humble, I’m trying to tell you that everybody and anybody can get it. That’s the energy.

AllHipHop: I loved the dancers in the video also!

Shan Vincent De Paul: The dancers in the video, I wanted to make sure we pull people from the Tamil diaspora. The dancing is a fusion of East and West, to bring that energy and still make sure that the visual’s representative of that fusion.

AllHipHop: “Savage” showcases a much darker side of you, what do you hope listeners take away from it?

Shan Vincent De Paul: I wanted to take this classical dance style of Bharatanatyam which Usha Jey is doing, and place it in the context of something super unexpected. It’s a super hard rap song, not something you’d normally picture that style of dancing. We thought it’d be super interesting to see those worlds collide in this sci-fi aesthetic we created. Initially, we’re thinking of having multiple characters in that video, but because of COVID, it had to be Usha. We created two characters for her and had them interact with each other.

Also, the East/West fusion of classical Tamil influence with the modern day hip-hop and what that looks like, that was the output. We were pretty successful in what we did. We started a lot of great conversations. There was a little bit of backlash with the Tamil audience of “hey, you’re not supposed to bring this classical world into this other space.” Also for the rap audience to see a rap song in this way was interesting. I love the conversations the video spawned.

AllHipHop: How did you discover Usha Jey? She combines Hip Hop with a traditional form of Tamil dance.

Shan Vincent De Paul: Usha Jey does these fusion dances and she did one to DaBaby’s “BOP” song. I was blown away when I saw it on Twitter. “This is incredible, I’ve never seen anything like this before.” Immediately I was writing the treatment for the song and I knew it had to be her. We’d connected on a couple of other smaller projects before, I told her that I‘d love to have her on this song. I sent her the song, I remember being nervous because I didn’t know if she’d f### with the song. Fortunately, she loved it. She came up with the choreography. Had a little back and forth of tweaking things here and there, but she delivered it exactly — she couldn’t have done a better job. She did an incredible job of bringing her style and fusing modern day hip hop with classical Tamil dance. She killed it.

AllHipHop: 3 things you need in the studio at all times?

Shan Vincent De Paul: Good vibes, God, and water.

AllHipHop: How do you hope your music impacts US listeners?

Shan Vincent De Paul: I hope it can inspire them to be great. I’m not fond of the culture of idolization or celebrity. If you’re really inspired by my music, I hope it inspires you to do something great. All of us are geniuses at something and I hope it inspires people to tap into their genius.

DaBaby Dropped From England Festival Over Homophobic Rant

DaBaby has been dropped from the Parklife 2021 festival after making a series of homophobic remarks onstage in Miami, Florida on Sunday (July 25).

The rapper, real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, was originally slated to headline the Manchester, England music fest in September, but his name has now been removed from the event’s website.

It’s the latest fallout from DaBaby’s bizarre anti-gay rant at the Rolling Loud festival at the weekend, during which he asked those not afflicted with HIV or AIDS to shine their cell phone lights.

Clothing company Boohoo quickly canceled its deal with the star while music names from Elton John to Anitta, who collaborated with DaBaby on “Girl From Rio,” have slammed his ignorant homophobic remarks.

Dua Lipa, meanwhile – who worked with DaBaby on a remix of her hit “Levitating” – said she was “surprised and horrified” by the rapper’s words, telling her Instagram followers, “I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

The “Levitating” remix has reportedly been removed from multiple Apple Music playlists as fans call for Dua to pull the track completely.

Lil Uzi Vert SHOCKED To Learn His Real Age

All these years Lil Uzi Vert has been living a lie.

For some reason, the North Philly rap star had no idea his real age. That is up until now.

After viewing his original birth certificate, the “From the Garden” artist now knows that he is actually younger than he originally believed.

In a tweet he seemed shocked (or a little outraged) when he posted, “Wait wtf I’m turning 26??? My mom found my birth certificate.”

https://twitter.com/LILUZIVERT/status/1420437683839590402?s=20

Previously, he believed that he was 27 years old, a whole year older. When fans asked him that if when he was 18 he was really 17, he replied:

“Yes WTFFF!!!”

https://twitter.com/LILUZIVERT/status/1420438390953160707?s=20

But it all started to become lighter and funny. Another fan asked about his driver’s license, asking how he was able to get this form of identification and certification to drive his sports cars— totally legitimate questions, Lil Uzi Vert answered:

“Who tf has a license”

https://twitter.com/LILUZIVERT/status/1420438651423571970?s=20

“Yes.”

https://twitter.com/LILUZIVERT/status/1420439054609440778?s=20

The birth certificate is considered a Vital Record to prove when you were actually born.

If you are born in a hospital, usually the process of receiving the document is simple. But if you are born at home or with a midwife, a little more effort has to be made. Without it, you are unable to receive a license or a passport. You are also not allowed to open a bank account.

Americans need it to vote, get a marriage license, a social security card, and so many other things.

While it seems that Uzi Vert’s mom just got confused a little, other questions prevail: Does the rapper vote, how does he drive and who in the world opened his bank account.

Think about it. Homie has a $24 million jewel in his head. Who got his money?

Now his top pinned tweet from November 17, 2020, is just as poignant as ever. It says, “Forever Young.”

That’s probably exactly how he is feeling.

More Police Killed Civilians During COVID Than Any Other Year Since 2015

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

News reports state that there have been more police shootings in America since the pandemic.

Over the last five-six years, there have been over 6,400 deaths at the hands of police. This does not include strangulations by chokeholds or kneeling, according to recently released reports.

According to the Washington Post, a publication that started tracking all fatal shootings perpetrated by on-duty police officers in 2015, cops are averaging about 1000 civilian deaths each year. 2020 alone had 1,021 people die after being shot by an officer and that was during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The news site started tracking the police after Mike Brown died and the country was introduced to the Black Lives Matter.

Black Lives Matter
Black Lives Matter

One of the things that came out of the study was how law enforcement may not be doing everything that we think they are. When reviewing the cases, it was revealed that most police departments still are not using body cameras.

Another thing that was discovered was that the majority of the shootings have been deemed “justifiable.”

Daniel Oates, a former police chief in Miami Beach, Aurora, Colo., and Ann Arbor, Mich. says, “The vast majority of those fatal shootings are lawful, righteous shootings.”

He continued, “a percentage of them are bad training, bad policy, bad day by the cop, not performing at their best.”

Examples of this are flagrant.

According to People magazine, 21-year-old U.S. Army soldier EJ Bradford, Jr. was shot and killed by police in an Alabama mall, while he was trying to help victims during a shooting in the shopping complex. His death was caught on camera. Not by police, who were not running their cameras, but by bystanders.

An autopsy report commissioned by the family, says that he was shot in the back, the back of his neck and the back of his head. A video shows that the police refused medical support during those critical moments that could have actually saved his life.

Despite this, the shooting officer has been vindicated by the state’s attorney general’s office.

The attorney general’s report states, “After an extensive investigation and review, the Attorney General has determined Officer 1 did not commit a crime under Alabama law when he shot and killed E.J. Bradford and thus the Alabama Rules of Professional Conduct preclude presentation of this case to a grand jury.”

Since 2020, more prosecutors have charged cops for on-duty shootings than the year before. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

Bruno Mars Discusses Silk Sonic’s New Song “Skate”

Fans of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have been patiently waiting for the two singer-songwriters to drop the follow-up single to their #1 hit “Leave the Door Open” which came out in March. Silk Sonic’s “Skate” finally arrived.

The R&B super-duo’s latest musical offering was released with a Bruno Mars/Florent Dechard-directed music video. Mars also joined Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily to discuss “Skate.”

“Me and the team were thinking about what if we were performing in the middle of a roller rink, what would that baseline be doing? What would the guitar be doing? What would the drums be talking about?” Bruno Mars told Zane Lowe. “And I wanted to play congas and that’s what you get. You get a song called ‘Skate.’ Talking about I’m trying to float. I’m trying to glide.”

The 11-time Grammy-winner added, “The vibes [are] always fun. Andy’s always cracking everybody up, playing the hell out of the drums. I got to play congas on this song and we were just going back and forth, trying to come up with the best melodies. We wanted everyone to feel like they were floating and gliding, slipping and sliding. And we’re very proud of this record. I hope you all enjoy it.”

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are expected to release a full-length studio album tentatively titled An Evening with Silk Sonic. Legendary Parliament-Funkadelic band member Bootsy Collins is named the “special guest host” for the upcoming project.

Silk Sonic has already achieved commercial and critical success with “Leave the Door Open.” The track spent two non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart and racked up over 461 million streams on Spotify.

In June, Silk Sonic won Best Group at the 2021 BET Awards over 21 Savage & Metro Boomin, Chloe x Halle, Chris Brown & Young Thug, City Girls, and Migos. Earlier this week, Bruno Mars announced a Silk Sonic “Summer Jam” is scheduled to take place sometime today (July 30).

DaBaby Claps Back At Questlove’s Criticism: I Do Not Know Who Dis N*gga Is

DaBaby remains in the social media hot seat after making offensive comments at Rolling Loud Miami on Sunday. Numerous public figures denounced the Charlotte native for his “call to action” that included calling out people with HIV/AIDS and homosexual men.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of [those] deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” DaBaby told the Rolling Loud Miami festival crowd.

The “Rockstar” hitmaker added, “Ladies, if your p#### smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking a n####’s dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.” DaBaby later apologized for his HIV/AIDS comments but continued to be defiant towards his critics.

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson joined the growing mass of people choosing to separate themselves from DaBaby. Questlove took to Instagram to share a post stating that he is no longer including DaBaby on a personal list of musicians like A Tribe Called Quest, Rihanna, Sade, and Megan Thee Stallion.

The Summer of Soul filmmaker wrote:

I was hypothetically asked if I was curating an updated version of #SummerOfSoul who would be my acts? I gave my dream list. And now I’m updating my list ——because it’s 2021 & f### the b#######. I’m especially not here for any savagery (if you’re lost: Google the idiocy of the crossed out). I’m not trine be all performative smurf & create a social flogging or start some click bait headlines. That’s missing the point. But right is right & his actions are wrong. Somebody Gotta say it: Homophobia/Transphobia/Xenophobia/Misogyny/Racism——this should go w/o saying is morally wrong. & not that fake hiding behind religion holier than thou morally wrong. But “that was f##### up” & wrong. I had to say something. Again I’m not doing this for “what do you want a cookie bro w your “love ye one another” posts?——-black people already have a code about publicly criticizing so I’ll admit i was slow to do this because I mean he don’t know me from Adam. So this will prolly get marked as “old hater” territory. But man…..that s### was not cool at all.I dunno man—-maybe I’m turning into a grump: barely said anything about Rih in ‘06 (lemme mind my business), looked the other way w ol bol & that MaGa Hat (he going thru thangs let him work it out)——don’t even get me started on half of my rap heroes damn near becoming f*x news talking points w their russian bot reposts & misinformation on all things facts. Huey Newton wisely stated in the early 70s that we as a people should NEVER go so low in life (with what we been through) that we start oppressing/terrorizing the next man in the way we been terrorized for centuries. Y’all got my point. Sorry this came off awkward but y’all get the point. Y’all gonna learn that there are other human beings living in the space you are.

Questlove’s Instagram statement received a response from DaBaby. The entertainer born Jonathan Kirk claimed to be unaware of who Questlove is even though he performed with The Roots drummer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in 2019.

DaBaby posted on his Instagram story:

I ain’t even tryna be funny when I say. I do NOT KNOW WHO DIS N#### IS DAWG 😂🤷🏽‍♂️& do not care about losing you as a fan my boy lol @questlove. Lil Nas X: No One Complained About The Nude Woman In The ‘Industry Baby’ Video

Lil Nas X has been the center of attention for weeks. Conservative commentators and other rappers have had a lot to say about the Georgia-bred rhymer’s controversial BET Awards performance and “Industry Baby” music video.

While naysayers took issue with the “Industry Baby” visuals showing men dancing with other men in prison, there was also a scene with featured artist Jack Harlow where a woman’s bare backside was shown. Lil Nas X pointed out what he sees as his critics’ hypocrisy.

“The funny thing is the only actual nudity in the entire industry baby video was a woman’s ass. Not a single complaint. Y’all know what y’all actually mad at lol,” tweeted Lil Nas X on Thursday night. That tweet amassed more than 183,000 likes on Twitter.

Social commentator Dr. Boyce Watkins suggested the “Industry Baby” video was responsible for “causing young men to die from AIDS.” The supporter of former President Donald Trump also referred to Lil Nas X as a “super spreader” of the disease.

Boosie Badazz is one of the most outspoken critics of Lil Nas X’s artistic expression as well. During a recent Instagram Live rant, Boosie even threatened to assault the 22-year-old Grammy winner for presenting homosexual imagery.

“If I’m at an [award show] and he go up there naked, I’m gonna drag his ass off stage and beat his ass,” said Boosie Badazz. “You let a n#### dance naked in front of your children, you a m############ crazy m###########. Or you like dick too.”

After DaBaby was criticized for making homophobic and insensitive comments at the Rolling Loud Miami festival, T.I. backed DaBaby by bringing up Lil Nas X. The Grand Hustle leader posted, “If Lil Nas X can kick his s### in peace… so should DaBaby 🤷🏽‍♂️. #equality.”

Many people compared Lil Nas X openly embracing his sexuality to DaBaby telling a festival crowd to put their cellphone lighter up if they do not have HIV/AIDS or if they were not “sucking a n####’s dick in the parking lot.” DaBaby’s comments were condemned by other artists like Dua Lipa and Elton John as well as GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and the boohooMAN brand.

Ironically, DaBaby also released the new music video for “Giving What It’s Supposed To Give” this week which had similarities to Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby” video. Both MVs were set in a courtroom and a penitentiary, and they both contained sexual content and explicit language.

Earlier this week Lil Nas X responded to the criticism from individuals like T.I. and Boosie Badazz by tweeting, “I’m starting to think you n##### gay too cuz yall stay on my d###… Some of y’all not even mad that I’m gay, some of y’all mad that I’m gay and still succeeding.”

Coi Leray Claims None Of The Other 2021 XXL Freshmen Can See Her In The Studio

Despite what detractors may say about Coi Leray, the Boston native does not appear to lack self-confidence. The 24-year-old rising rapper made a bold declaration during a recent interview.

Coi Leray has repeatedly been the target of online criticism for the last several months. Some Hip Hop fans believe the 2021 XXL Freshman Class member is an underwhelming live performer.

Plus, Coi Leray was slammed for her XXL freestyle and cypher performance. Complex caught up with Leray, and the Now or Never EP creator was asked about the negative reactions to her freestyle.

“Somebody had to be the best and somebody had to be the worst. I just feel like, if I’m not gonna be the best freestyle, I’m just gonna have fun with my s### and do whatever makes me happy,” Coi Leray told Complex News’ Speedy Morman.

She continued, “But, if you put me in the booth with anybody on that XXL [cover], I guarantee ain’t nobody seeing me in the f###### studio, and that’s on me… I feel like people depend on XXL, that’s like their moment. I’m here forever. When you’re a superstar, it’s bigger than that.”

Coi Leray shared the front of this year’s XXL Freshmen issue with 42 Dugg, Flo Milli, Morray, Pooh Shiesty, Lakeyah, Toosii, Blxst, DDG, Rubi Rose, and Iann Dior. In comparison to her musical colleagues, Leray’s freestyle video has by far the most dislikes on YouTube (16,000) of the eleven artists.

Earlier this week, Coi Leray got bad reviews from social media users for her Rolling Loud Miami festival set. She responded by tweeting, “It’s about over 100 [artists] who performed on that lineup and all people wanna do is eat up my cack. Lol. Gotta love this s### [for real]. I got good problems. 😂🖤🤙🏻.”

Coi Leray has scored one Top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart so far in her career. “No More Parties” featuring Lil Durk peaked at #26 in March. The single also earned Leray her only official Platinum plaque from the RIAA.

Michael Che Faces Backlash For Posting Sexual Assault Joke About Simone Biles

Simone Biles is currently one of the most talked-about athletes on the planet. Her decision to pull out of gymnastics competitions at the Summer Olympics in order to protect her mental health was met with support, vitriol, understanding, and mockery.

Following the news of Simone Biles’s withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics, Michael Che chose to publicly comment about the 24-year-old gymnast on social media. The Saturday Night Live comedian was met with widespread backlash for his public statements.

“Man, I wanna make fun of Simone Biles,” wrote Michael Che, before adding, “I got like 3 mins of Simone Biles jokes in my head. I’m going to the [Comedy Cellar club] tonight to say them into a microphone. As the dorky kids say, I’m choosing violence.”

Those comments led to other Instagram users direct messaging Michael Che their own jokes about Simone Biles. The 38-year-old Weekend Update co-anchor reposted a few of those DMs to his Instagram Story.

One person wrote, “Larry Nassar understands Simone Biles better than anyone. He too had to quit doing what he loved at the pinnacle of his career because of mounting pressure.” Michael Che captioned the re-post, “G###### that’s rough. Absolutely tasteless. 9/10.”

Simone Biles is one of more than 150 women and girls who accused Larry Nassar, the former team doctor for the United States women’s national gymnastics team, of sexual abuse. Nassar pled guilty to multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct. He was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison.

Many social media users began condemning Michael Che for sharing a response that made fun of Simone Biles and other sexual assault survivors’ trauma. Che deleted the stories and added another post claiming he was the victim of a hacker.

“Maaannnn, I got hacked today. Can’t believe they got me. Y’all know I only do jokes about whites and cops. [It’s] all good now, I changed my password and everything… Anyway, y’all hear about DaBaby tho? That’s crazy. Iight. See y’all in church. Imma get there early.”

As a result of the Larry Nassar joke, some people online are calling for NBC (the network home of Saturday Night Live) and HBO (the network home of the That Damn Michael Che series) to cut ties with Michael Che. Neither company has yet to comment on the controversy.

Self-described gender justice advocate Farrah Khan tweeted, “Larry Nassar sexually assaulted over 300 gymnasts including Simone Biles. Jokes about this immense violence are never okay. @hbomax @nbcsnl why is Michael Che still on your roster?”

The Undefeated writer Soraya McDonald tweeted, “How nice for Michael Che never to have been denied the sanctity of his own body because of his gender. How nice for him not to be judged and gaslit repeatedly because it is routine to treat an entire gender and their experiences with disregard and contempt. How lovely for him.”

Bimmy Antney Working Movie With One Time Rival, 50 Cent

Former Def Jam music executive and uncle to Waka Flocka, Bimmy Antney, says that he and 50 Cent will be making a movie about his extraordinary life.

Antney, who used to be an A&R for LL Cool J, sat down with Chuck Creekmur from AllHipHop.com and shared the news about the upcoming project.

And it seems like it will be a must-see by all considerations.

When talking about his relationship with big-time the 80s and 90s street crime crew, Supreme Team, he said, “The movie that me and 50 doing is about my life. I was there.”

The Queens native continues, “If you look at the timeline on Hip-Hop Uncovered, you see who was there … I don’t have to argue anything that with anybody and prove myself.”

Because he was there, he was able to explain how he could be cool with 50 Cent and Supreme, the leader of the notorious crew, back in the day.

According to rap lore, the “Get Rich or Die Trying” money maker was enemies with the alleged hustler.

Check out the full interview that goes into details about Antney’s relationships with both, how he got down with Run-DMC (in a move that would change his life), his definition of loyalty and what else is coming up for him on the horizon.

“I got pressure on my eyes a little bit, not as bad as it was. I’m not nauseous like I was,” Dess Dior shared. “I couldn’t hold down anything. I’m starting to eat a little more. I did lose my taste. But it could be worse and the best part about it is, I’m not dying…I’m not on my deathbed so thank you guys for your prayers, thank you for the remedies, but I will be fine. I can’t wait until this is over, hopefully, it’s over soon.”

Saweetie Strikes Deal With McDonald’s For Her Own Meal

Fast food titan McDonald’s has realized that Saweetie is more than a pretty face. In fact, they have found out what we already knew. The “ “ artist is a pretty face with a big ole brain with a lot of drive and a bounce-back game that is undeniable.

After breaking up with Quavo, her longtime boyfriend and member of the Atlanta chart-topping group Migos, many thought she would shrink like a violet and struggle to stay relevant. Nothing could be further from that truth.

The University of Southern California alumna, who clearly is using that Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Communications with an emphasis in Business, has struck up a deal with the original fast food giant McDonald’s to create a customize menu item.

After changing her Twitter handle to “Big Mac Mama,” she posted, “WHO’S READY FOR ONE OF MY INFAMOUS CONCOCTIONS ?!!”

This deal is similar to the deal that Travis Scott made in 2020.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, after releasing the his meal deal last September that “Astroworld” artist made in a total of four months, $20 million dollars in profit from the sale of a special Scott-favored Quarter Pounder meal (complete with fries and a Sprite) and exclusive merchandise that included McNugget-shaped body pillows, $250 shorts and $98 hoodies.

Critics, who often say that Saweetie is a hit or miss when it comes to music, wonder if she will achieve the same success.

She is.

According to Rolling Stone she is a “walking business model” with a fanbase that is bankable. This is why Mickey D’s isn’t the only mega brand knocking at her door, so is Facebook, Xbox and the cosmetics firm Morphe.

Griselda’s Conway Wears A Skirt, Calls Himself “Lil Con X”

I think I know what’s going on here, but let’s run it down anyway. Last weekend was the incredible event Rolling Loud was a proverbial whose who of Hip-Hop music. I don’t ever want to be around that many people in this Covid era, but I have to say I was impressed. I was even more impressed when I saw Griselda up there. Sometimes I forget these guys are backed by heavies like Roc Nation and Eminem and whatever else. They are no longer underground and they are no longer “just grimy rappers.” They may not be household names, but the certainly aren’t “just Hip-Hop.” They are intentional.

So this brings me to what the most staunch supporters of the Buffalo collective is talking about.

On the serious tip, these dudes are getting so much love in the general market, I can’t be anything but happy for them. They did what needed to be done to separate themselves from the pack. They still rapping and still rising! The comments are another thing, but people are talking and headlines are being made. Nuff said.

Here is the latest from him.

Jeffrey Lewis: The Reality Of Starting His Own Media Platform ItsOnlyEntertainment

Jeffrey Lewis is a beast in the media and blog space, and he continues to put time, dedication, and passion into his work.

A true Harlem native down to the core, Jeff hit the ground running over a decade ago in 2009 and has since established himself as someone you want to know in media — giving audiences all around the world the tea.

Now standing as the CEO and founder of his own media platform ItsOnlyEntertainment, Lewis reveals there’s two side to him. He states, “The professional me speaks well, he’s always paying attention to how he’s carrying himself. Then there’s the Harlem guy: a free spirit, a little wild and crazy. He does whatever the hell he wants to do, but at the same time he’s still keeping in mind that business side.”

His resume alone speaks for itself, managing content at RayJ.com and Twista.com, contributing to Interactive One’s The Urban Daily and Hello Beautiful, doing social media for DuBose Entertainment, and even branding Ceaser’s Black Ink Crew for 6 years.

So what sets Jeffrey’s ItsOnlyEntertainment from the rest? Jeffrey chooses to focus on not only the gossip, but highlights the good in the celebrities he covers. His yearning to support everybody has gotten him this far, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

AllHipHop: Who did you write for initially?

Jeffrey Lewis: What happened was I’m doing all this stuff on Twitter right? I’m getting all these retweets, then I had started a small blog called The Society at that time. One day out of nowhere, I got this message from this guy K Rich. He’s affiliated with Thisis50. He hit me up and said “Yo, I want you to come work with me on Rayj.com.” I’m like “well how did you hear about me?” He said “Oh I heard about you from Corentin,” who‘s running at ThisIs50 at the time. He put him onto me and said “Yo there’s this dude on Twitter, he’s always saying this crazy stuff. You should check him out.”

From there, I started content managing for RayJ.com. It went from RayJ.com to Interactive One, all that type of stuff. I was writing for the AllHipHop Rumors at that time as well too. I started making relationships with different writers and bloggers. I made this relationship with this blogger named Miss Mouth, she had the nastiest mouth ever. She’s got this p#### mouth, she says what she wants. She’s worse than me. [laughs] I wanted to connect with her. She put me on to writing this newsletter with her called the Miss Mouth Times. Me and her would go HAM in this newsletter. She was working on AllHipHop Rumors and at that point, she’s getting ready to leave the media game. She said “I’m going to pitch you a place at AllHipHop to take over Rumors after I leave,” and that’s what she did. I started writing on AllHipHop Rumors, that was so fun.

AllHipHop: How was it writing for AllHipHop Rumors over a decade ago?

Jeffrey Lewis: At that time in 2009, the gossip sites weren’t heavy heavy back then. The AllHipHop Rumors was ruling, it was fun. After illseed would do his shoutouts, he’ll introduce myself or another blogger afterwards. After his stuff is over, he’d say “Alright I’m going to leave it over from myself and they’re going to fill you in.” From there, it’d be my section and I’d go in. This spiraled out of control to me writing for so many different websites. I did that for a few years up until I became independent on my own.

AllHipHop: Talk about working with Black Ink for the past 6 years.

Jeffrey Lewis: ItsOnlyEntertainment is not only a celebrity news site, it’s a branding and marketing company. ItsOnlyEntertainment stems from branding and marketing into celebrity news. Yes, I’ve been the man behind Black Ink’s rise for the past 6 years. I’ve been working very close with Caesar as far as his look, how his image is in the media, overturning that whole thing with Black Ink in the beginning because people had seen Black Ink as this business in the hood. That’s where they thought they were going to stay but as you can see now, it’s a total empire. Not only one shop, but 7 shops in different cities.

I’ve been working with him with the brand and marketing, bringing new ideas to Black Ink. I started my vendor program, I know you see a lot of pop-up shops now. I’ve been doing vendors since I don’t even know how many years now, before this whole thing even got popular. Bringing a lot of different ideas to where the company can expand and take on new levels. That’s been really exciting because I get to experience things on a business side, plus behind-the-scenes in the reality TV world. A couple times, I’ve been included on the show. My blog’s popped up on the screen a few times, I’m working behind-the-scenes so I have exclusives. [laughs] It’s been fun, definitely been a great ride. Now, I’m ready to spread my wings and go even higher.

AllHipHop: What is the reality of running your own media outlet? What’s the grind?

Jeffrey Lewis: The reality is it’s hell. It’s so much fun, but it’s hell because it’s a lot of work and people don’t understand that. People think “Oh you start a blog, go out there and start talking about people.” No it doesn’t work like that. It’s a lot of work: talking to people everyday, my phone ringing off the hook everyday. A thousand and one emails, events, dealing with my correspondents, dealing with my writers, camera people, graphic designers…

AllHipHop: How big is your team?

Jeffrey Lewis: My team’s very small, it’s 4 of us. Even still, I’m doing the handling of the business. I handle all of the business: the branding, the marketing, everything. The backend of the website, putting the website together, of course managing the other people that come around. This is the entertainment world, not everybody is as dedicated as they say they are. Especially when you work in entertainment or media because you get invited to all these different events and special things, people want to be in the mix. Sometimes it’s a revolving door. You’ve got to weed out the people who really, really want it. It’s fun, but it’s a lot of work. You have to be passionate and dedicated if this is really what you want.

AllHipHop: What have been your favorite stories and interviews?

Jeffrey Lewis: This past year, we had Joseline Hernandez on this past year and she was awesome. We love Joseline at ItsOnlyEntertainment, not only because she’s beautiful but because you never know what you’re going to get with her. Her attitude is always in your face. We definitely love us some Joseline Hernandez. We’ve had the cast from P-Valley: we had Tyler Lepley on, Brandee Evans on. We’ve interviewed so many people, especially this past year because the pandemic had everybody in the house. We had Jacob Latimore on, he’s from The Chi. Every day is exciting, you never know what you’re going to get. Of course, I love when celebrities are commenting.

AllHipHop: Who are your favorite artists?

Jeffrey Lewis: I’m from the old school. I’m from the era of Biggie, Jay-Z, Pac, Lil Kim, Nas, Foxy Brown. Those are New York favorites and I’m from that era. I definitely like the people from my era, but you can’t leave out the new school. Now, I’ve got to go with Lil Baby. He’s killing it right now. What I like about Lil Baby is that he almost doesn’t know that he’s Lil Baby. Even with all the fame and all the hit records that’s come to him, he’s still Lil Baby and I like that. I like a person that still knows how to be themselves even though their life has transitioned into this crazy lifestyle.

AllHipHop: What’s your take on urban media?

Jeffrey Lewis: In urban media, we need more togetherness. We need more of us sticking together in urban media because we don’t get the recognition we truly deserve. If we stick together more, motivate one another, come together and create that narrative for each other, it’d be better for us. You go to events and urban media is at the end of the carpet. Now I’m noticing that urban media is not even on the carpet. They’re putting urban media in virtual and the other outlets get on the carpet, then you get the rest of the stuff. I want to see urban media finally get the recognition we deserve. I want to see all my writers and bloggers in urban media at top pay. I want to see them thriving and successful.

Nas Sets Release Date For New Album “King’s Disease II”

Nas is like … coming out with another album, one year after his 2020 GRAMMY-Award winning King’s Disease.

The announcement seemed to shock the culture as the Queensbridge artist notoriously takes forever to drop follow up studio projects. But the sequel, King’s Disease II, may be exactly what Hip-Hop needs to counter some of the negativity in the air.

According to Mass Appeal Records’ Instagram, the new project will drop on August 6.

The art is also epic as it is a simple portrait style of the 47-year-old rapper.

The orange and yellow overtones accentuate his natural skin, slightly longer and twisted hair, white tee and gold link chain. The color choice is deliberate as Nas is known to masterfully construct every piece of work to articulate his vision.

This time using this palette is to suggest, according to bourncreative.com, golden orange often stands for prestige, wisdom, illumination, wealth, and quality … you know “king s###!”

Fans don’t seem to mind that the music is coming this summer, either.

“RUN IT BACK – King’s Disease II”

“NAS IS DROPPING KING’S DISEASE II … Omggggg”

https://twitter.com/amate_a/status/1420790016951951363?s=20

Some are excited and some are floating conspiracy theories about the release, suggesting that Jay-Z might be up to something sinister, keeping up the “coincidence” that always seems to have a Hov related project dropping on the same day as Nasty Nas.

“Could it be that Kanye moved the Donda release date to August 6th because Jay-Z knew that Nas was releasing King’s Disease II on August 6th so that Jay could have some content out the same time as Nas? Imagine. Jay petty enough to do it too.”

“You kids got it too easy these days Donda – Kanye King’s Disease II – Nas Drop on the same day and you don’t have to worry about choosing because only having money for one and your mom not paying for 2 of those damn CD’s”

Cole Jackson 12 got it right! We don’t have to choose.

Two dope projects can be easily streamed making it no contest and Hip-Hop wins … again!

Toosii Deletes Tweet Calling His Own Generation Soft

Rising Hip Hop artist Toosii is having a break-out year in 2021. The Poetic Pain creator got pushed as an Audiomack #UpNow artist, picked up a Gold plaque for “Love Cycle” with Summer Walker, and earned a spot as an XXL Freshman Class member.

Toosii was joined on the annual XXL magazine cover by 42 Dugg, Flo Milli, Morray, Pooh Shiesty, Lakeyah, Coi Leray, Blxst, DDG, Rubi Rose, and Iann Dior. Those eleven acts are viewed as potential future mainstream rap stars.

Even though Toosii is associated with some of the most notable up-and-comers of this era, he apparently sees himself as separate from the typical Gen Zer. He recently post-and-deleted a message slamming his peers.

A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

“This generation [is] soft. Y’all would’ve ‘canceled’ Bernie Mac fasho,” wrote Toosii in the now-erased tweet. The 21-year-old, Syracuse-born songwriter was referring to the late comedian who passed away in 2008.

Toosii’s removed Twitter post was shared around the same time as DaBaby was catching significant backlash for his perceived homophobic remarks at the Rolling Loud Miami festival. It is not clear the DaBaby controversy is what inspired Toosii to tweet about so-called cancel culture.

One Twitter user quote-tweeted Toosii and added, “The real ‘soft’ ones are y’all like y’all wanna say whatever the f### y’all want without consequences.” Toosii then responded, “I’m confused I mentioned Bernie Mac, what is you talking about?”

This was not the first time Toosii called out his Gen Z contemporaries on social media. In April of this year, the “Sapiosexual” performer wrote on Twitter, “This generation too sensitive for me or I was raised different.”

As people reacted to his deleted tweet, Toosii continued to promote his upcoming musical releases with the hashtag #TheManifestation. He has been teasing a sequel to the Thank You for Believing mixtape for months. The original TYFB contains appearances by DaBaby, Latto, and Key Glock.
