Money Rod Discusses His Project “MONEY, POWER, RESPECT” Moving To Atlanta And More

Money Rod’s name says it all… and he does not play when it comes to his money.

On his newest single “Money,” he spits “wake up in the morning on my mind it be the money yeah. And we going hard, work all night until it’s sunny. And i keep a big rod, n#### won’t take nothing from me. Big drip on my wrist, yeah I’m Rod with the money!”

Born and raised in Miami, Money Rod has been obsessed with music since a young age, with his mom being one of his biggest motivations. Witnessing her strength and resilience in overcoming their circumstances from poverty to domestic violence, Money Rod was inspired to in turn find his own path in helping and impacting others.

Soon, music would be his outlet to express his deepest thoughts and emotions, with lyrics inspired by real-life experiences.

Inspired by the greats such as fellow Miami native Trick Daddy, Tupac, Master P, and Jay Z, Money Rod made the conscious decision in 2007 to pursue music as a full-time career. After the tragic loss of his godbrother, Rod’s hustler mentality kicked into overdrive… and now he’s gearing up to release his forthcoming project titled MONEY, POWER, RESPECT.

AllHipHop: How’s Atlanta treating you?

Money Rod: I’m in Atlanta. I love Atlanta, Atlanta changed my life for the better. Because everybody gets along, everybody tries to help you. I’m not from here, but I live here now.

AllHipHop: How would you describe your sound?

Money Rod: Honestly, it’s universal, because it doesn’t have one direct lane. The world can vibe to it.

AllHipHop: How was it growing up in Miami?

Money Rod: It wasn’t the best, but it definitely taught me a lot. It was cool, I will always love Miami. I will always love my city. I became a man in Miami, Miami built me to be who I am today. It showed me how to get some type of money, no matter what it is you‘re doing. It showed me how to love. It showed me the people who are trying to hold you back, you gotta watch out for snakes. All that in a nutshell, it showed me a lot. I could never s### on my city, I love Miami.

AllHipHop: When did you decide to pursue music for a living?

Money Rod: I was 16 or 17 years old when I realized I could do it. I was the type of person who always used to freestyle when I was younger. My brother and my cousin used to always write stuff, they used to rap. I always looked at them like “damn I think I could do that, what they’re doing.” I started trying it myself. When I started freestyling in front of people, they’re like “yo, you’re dope!” I’m like “yeah whatever.” One day my homeboy and I were chillin’, he begged me to go to the studio. He kept asking me “let’s go to the studio, let’s go to the studio.” Nah man, I don’t wanna go to the studio. I wanna do something else. I got this little chick I’m tryna go see right now, I ain’t worried about no studio. That can wait until later.

Eventually, to make the long story short, the fifth or sixth time he asked, I said “you know what, there’s gotta be a reason this man keeps asking me to go to the studio.” So I went. I was freestyling in the studio booth because I wasn’t writing at the time either. I fell in love with it, I said “this is what I wanna do in life, before that I never knew what I wanted to do in life at that age.

AllHipHop: How’d you get the name Money Rod?

Money Rod: That came from the streets really, and that came from my homeboy’s big brother Dolla Bill who is my big homie. He started calling me Money Rod: “hey boy, your name Money Rod.” [deep voice] That’s how he’d speak. When he said that, it stuck with me like “damn I like that.” Salute to Dolla Bill.

AllHipHop: “Money” samples The O’Jay’s 1974 classic “For The Love of the Money.” What were you on recording this one?

Money Rod: That “Money” record right there was really inspired from my momma back in the days, she used to listen to that O’Jays record a lot. Not just her, the world used to listen to that record. That’s a classic. Me coming out as Money Rod, it’s only right to get the world introduced to Money Rod the proper way and come with the “money money money” record. My homeboy Rado told me like “yo man, I think you should do that ‘Money’ record. It’ll fit you perfectly.” I said “I think you right” and I ran with it, that’s what we did.

AllHipHop: What was your vision shooting the “Money” visual?

Money Rod: I can’t tell you it was my vision because I’d be lying, it was my director’s vision. When they presented it to me, I loved it so we ran with that. S###, cumonn!

AllHipHop: What can we expect from your forthcoming project, MONEY, POWER, RESPECT?

Money Rod: That’s on the way, the record “Money” is off that project. The reason I named it MONEY, POWER, RESPECT is because a lot of people in the world have power. For example, a teacher. Kids look up to the teacher. A teacher has the power to teach their students and they look up to them so they respect the teachers, because they want to learn. Overall no matter how you look at it, money comes with it. So it’s only right it’s MONEY, POWER, RESPECT. A lot of people have power. The judges have power, the doctors, lawyers, everyone has power some type of power. I’m all about respect, I’m a respectful person and I love people that respect me.

AllHipHop: Talk about working with Cinq Music.

Money Rod: Shout out to Diana, and Fotemah. Shout out to Cinq Music. My whole team is over there. To be honest, this is my first distribution deal I’ve had since I started doing music so I feel great. A real professional team, I’m excited about everything, and I feel blessed.

AllHipHop: What do you like to do when you’re not working?

Money Rod: Family time. I’m a family guy. I have a wife and 3 kids: 7, 8, and 1. I’m with my family right now, I stayed in the car to do this interview. I’m at a 5-star steakhouse right now. We’re going to eat some lamb chops, fillet mignon. Just a day in the life, treating the family right now. I go out of town tomorrow to Miami for Rolling Loud.

AllHipHop: Are you performing?

Money Rod: No, I didn’t get booked for that show. I didn’t want to be booked right now because I need everybody to be singing that Money Rod record when I do hit that stage.

AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let us know?

Money Rod: Rest in peace to my godbrother Reggie because he was one of the first ones to believe in me. me from day one. I always told him that when I make it out, we’re going to be great. I’m showing him right now today that it’s happening.

Tucker Carlson Claims ‘Non-White People Cheering The Extinction Of White People’

Tucker Carlson was back up to his old tricks again at the weekend, stoking fears into the hearts of the Fox audience.

Having been riled up since the US Census Bureau reported that the population is diversifying, he has come up with a new theory. Democrats are not only responsible for the country’s changing demographics but further, non-white people are celebrating the decline of the white race.

On Friday’s edition of ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight” the controversial host expressed his concerns surrounding the first drop in self-identified non-Hispanic whites in history. He then went on to accuse non-white people of “cheering the extinction of white people.”

Carlson attempted to use recent census data showing a decline in the self-identifying white population as proof of his theory that Democrats are “intentionally accelerating demographic change” to replace voters.

The contentious Fox News host said he’s “pointing out the obvious”. He says “Democrats are intentionally accelerating demographic change in this country for political advantage.”

“They said we were espousing something called the great replacement theory, a well-known racist fantasy,” he said disparagingly. “Right. In other words, ‘Shut up.’”

“As leading Democrats put it again and again, ‘Who cares? Fewer white people in America is a great thing and we should celebrate,’” Carlson continued.

He then cuts to clips of a discussion on CNN between Bakari Sellers and Ana Navarro where they talk about the census data.

In one clip, Navarro recounts a recent trip to the White House to CNN’s Don Lemon: “Guess who’s got Stephen Miller’s old office. Her name is Susan Rice. And she’s one of us. And guess who is in Ivanka Trump’s old office? Julie Rodriguez, she is César Chavez’s granddaughter.”

“Did you hear that?” Carlson asks in disbelief, sounding like he’s about to lose his mind. “‘Her name is Susan Rice, she’s one of us.’ Meaning she’s a Democrat? No. It means she’s not white. ‘Us’ is the non-white people cheering the extinction of white people. That was on television. Think about that. It’s hard to think about because it’s that evil.”

He is no stranger to peddling the racist “replacement theory”. Carlson earlier in the week suggested that the Biden administration is “bringing felons, violent criminals into our country on purpose” to influence the outcome of elections.

Back in April, Carlson a guest on his show claimed that Hip-Hop culture was responsible for ruining Black’s people’s ambition.

YK Osiris Declares Usher “King Of RnB” While Dancing The Night Away At Las Vegas Residency

YK Osiris had the time of his life last night after pulling up to Usher’s Las Vegas residency. Usher who is performing at The Colosseum certainly left an impression on the rapper/singer!

The Worth It singer posted a video on Instagram last night along with some glowing praise for Usher. He wrote, “Man usher had me all in my feelings that man really the king @usher”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CSlnqTvlVt6/

In the video, YK is enthusiastically dancing along to Usher’s Let it Burn. Though his companions were all seated YK took to his feet, arms in the air singing along to the hit song.

YK Osiris continued, “I don’t know who Df I thought I was lol fr I really had a great time, y’all don’t really understand how this made me feel fr, I got work to do️ this man really is RNB FR”

Going further in his Instagram stories, he uploaded a video of himself still buzzing from the performance. If y’all watched what I watched we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

Usher’s residency was making news before the show even started! Stories of payment of the show’s dancers in Usher Bucks caused a few ripples. Headlines spoke of scams, fakes, and Las Vegas gangsters. Whatever currency is being used the dancers are worth their weight in gold and almost stole the show in viral videos circulating this weekend!

Usher’s Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum, Ceasar’s Place features the star performing his greatest hits from his 20-year career. Dates on sale through Jan 1, 2022.

Sha’Carri Richardson To Race Jamaican Olympic Medallists In Oregon

She may have lost out on the opportunity to compete in the 2021 Olympics but Sha’Carri Richardson still has the chance to race against the fastest women in the world.

A failed drug test scuppered Sha’Carri’s chances of racing in the 100 meters at the Olympics in Tokyo. However, she will have a chance to run against the Jamaican trio who scooped all the medals at the event. Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson will all be running the 100 meters at next week’s Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

The sprinter has become quite the icon with her trademark long nails, long lashes, and fiery orange hair. Her story broke hearts worldwide after losing out on her dream to race in the Olympics. She had been touted as the U.S Team’s poster girl in the games after posting a blazing 10.86 in the 100 at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

In an agreement between Sha’Carri and the U.S Doping Agency, Sha’Carri received a one-month suspension. Although the suspension ended before the 100 meters was run in Tokyo, her time at trials was invalidated. This left her without a spot on the team.

Sha’Carri disclosed that her suspension for a positive cannabis test came after smoking it following the death of her mother. Despite cannabis being legal in Oregon where her trial took place, it’s on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances. A conversation has now rightly arisen questioning whether cannabis should still be a banned substance.

As well as the Jamaican medal winners, three other competitors from the 00m final in Tokyo will also be racing. Fourth-place finisher Marie-Josee Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast, sixth-place finisher Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland. Teahna Daniels of the United States who finished in seventh-place also competes.

True to form, Sha’Carri is taking it in her stride and treating it like any other race. Renaldo Nemiah, Richardson’s agent, told the Wall Street Journal “Sha’Carri is focused on running a good race since she last competed at the US Olympic Trials.” He carried on, “she will be focused on executing her race to the best of her ability regardless of who is in the race.”

Good luck Sha’Carri, we’re rooting for you!

Mike Dean Denies Quitting “Donda” Production After Calling It “Toxic”

It seems as though every day brings news about Kanye West’s long-awaited Donda album and Sunday was no exception!

Mike Dean, the acclaimed producer, denied rumors that he has quit working on the rapper’s much delayed new album, Donda.

The record producer and long-time Kanye West collaborator, seemingly frustrated with progress on the project took to Twitter to vent his frustration.

In a series of tweets fans of the Chicago-bred rapper were taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It started with Dean tweeting “f*ck it” and that it was “good to be back at the house”.

It was of course assumed that Mike Dean had gone back home to LA leaving Kanye without his producer.

In another tweet Mike wrote: “I left Monday. Secretly. Had to get away.” further fuelling the rumor that he had fled the project.

In response to a comment suggesting the Donda album’s rollout had been “toxic”, Dead tweeted in agreement: “Toxic. That’s it,”

Responding to a tweet suggesting he “go help Kanye PLZ”, Mike tweeted: “Helping myself. Thx” further fuelling whispers of a rift.

Whether the producer had quit or not remains to be seen. However he has since confirmed he is back working on the album in a new tweet: “I haven’t quit anything. The album continues. Lol. People read too much into tweets. Lol”

It seems as though the producer may be feeling underappreciated. Last night he retweeted a series of tweets putting respect on his name!

The Donda album has already been subject to a number of delays. Fans were expecting its release after listening parties on July 22 and then on August 5th, held in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The second Donda event was the most-watched live stream in Apple Music history attracting over 5.4 million viewers.

Fans are hoping for a release date of August 20.

The Festival That Didn’t Cancel DaBaby Is Coming!

DaBaby has been canceled so many times, it’s more like a series of abortions! As you may remember, DaBaby was embroiled in a beef with the LGBTQ nation as they took offense to some comments he made at the Rolling Loud festival. The interpretation of those comments has been up for serious debate for quite some time. However, the result has been cancellation and loss of revenue for the rapper. Should it be like that? I don’t know! But, it just seems like cancel culture is dominating all things these days.

New York City is a little bit different though. The Hot 97 Summer Jam concert, one of the biggest in the world, has decided to give DaBaby a chance. The funny thing is Summer Jam is actually not a festival, but then my headline would be pretty weak. Anyway, he is the headliner of the summer gym concert which has been delayed due to Covid in 2020. This year it comes, but just a little later than usual.

The last few interviews that AllHipHop has conducted, the rappers have been very clear that they support DaBaby and furthermore they don’t even agree with much of the cancellation culture. Others are taking it a step further and felt like cultural norms within Hip-Hop has been attacked and there has been a concerted effort to issue new normal. Not sure what that means but it sounds good. At any rate, there hasn’t been any dust kicked up over the DaBaby’s inclusion in Summer Jam, which is interesting. Maybe since it’s a concert largely attended by DaBlacks.

ALSO: The Lox and Dipset created a situation where the bar got raised tremendously so it’s going to be interesting to see what the performers bring to the stage. There’s also a DMX tribute with Swizzy. Maybe The Lox will be there. This is not to say that they’ll be any battles up there, but there certainly will be a New York area audience looking for more. I am looking forward to it and I hope they stream it live so I can see it from my home.

Naomi Osaka to Donate Prize Money to Haiti Earthquake Relief

Naomi Osaka has pledged to donate any prize money from her upcoming tournament to relief efforts in Haiti. The Caribbean Island is currently in need of aid following an earthquake on Saturday that has left more than 1200 people dead.

In a tweet just hours after reports of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hitting Haiti Osaka wrote that it, “really hurts to see all the devastation that’s going on in Haiti, and I feel like we really can’t catch a break.”

Referring to the Western & Southern Open currently underway, Osaka continued. “I’m about to play a tournament this week and I’ll give all the prize money to relief efforts for Haiti. I know our ancestors blood is strong we’ll keep rising,”

This is a cause close to Osaka’s heart, her father is Haitian. Whilst Osaka has represented Japan in top competitions the tennis star publicly embraces her Haitian ancestry.

Osaka has made headlines recently for speaking out on issues like police brutality and racial inequality.

Further, she has also spoken out on mental health awareness in athletics following a fine for refusing to take part in French Open press events.

A state of emergency has been declared in Haiti. The country’s civil protection agency is reporting at least 1,297 people are dead and more than 5,700 injured. Officials have confirmed that the earthquake destroyed 13,694 homes and damaged another 13,785.

Hospitals have been pushed to the brink. There are concerns about whether there are enough doctors available to assist relief efforts.

Kanye West Loses One In Alleged Toxic Work Environment

Kanye West Stare GIF - Kanye West Stare Serious - Discover & Share GIFs

Kanye West has been delaying his highly anticipated album DONDA. If you are you are fortunate, as I am you know that there is a leaked version of the album out already. I am not sure how that version compares to the final, but I am not fully feeling it. I’m not saying it’s not a good project, but I am saying it’s not for me as it is now. At any rate, the energy surrounding the Kanye project has garnered headlines.

Most notably, Mike Dean, the well-known producer that has been the sonic backdrop to some of Kanye West’s best hits, has bounced. That’s right! Mike Dean has departed the whole movement to go home. He reportedly charged Kanye with facilitating a toxic work environment and couldn’t take anymore. And, if you look at the tweets, it seems like he’s completely through. This does not seem like some kind of press plot or a plea for attention. It just seems like dude is completely fed up and sick and tired of working with Kanye West.

I didn’t watch all of the festivities around Mr. West, but some say that he raised his voice at Mike Dean in a disrespectful manner, in front of people. This seems to be the catalyst for Mike Dean’s departure from the Donda situation. I don’t think Yeezy Man’s mother would be proud of him for doing that with his friend! Unless he’s not a friend. At any rate here are some of the tweets and some of the responses that Mike Dean and friends posted on their public social media pages (some were deleted and reposted by fans).

WOW!

You think Kanye cares?

Well, Kanye should be good. He still has Cons and Fonzworth as his loyal buds!

Jay-Z In Pioneering Move To Open A Sportsbook

Jay-Z is making the move into big-time gambling, potentially making him a pioneer in the billion-dollar industry. In his latest hustle He’s signed on with some heavy-hitters in a bid to open a sportsbook in New York.

TMZ report that Jay is among those named in applications submitted to the NY Gaming Commission to request approval for an online sports betting license. TMZ’s sources tell them he’s teaming up with Sixers buddy Michael Rubin to form Fanatics Sportsbooks. The partnership is said to include Kambi, a company that produces software used for online sports betting.

Jay-Z already has existing deals with Michel Rubin. He partnered with him on their Sixers deal and more recently investing in Rubin’s 18-billion-dollar company, Fanatics.

According to TMZ, New York state will approve at least 2 of the 6 groups. Jay-Z could actually be the secret weapon that gets them through the door. He is the only prominent figure applying for a license and the only Black applicant. The other corporations might have Black employees or execs but Jay-Z would be the only actual licensee.

The sports gambling industry is a prosperous one pulling in roughly $1.55 BILLION nationally last year. Although Jay Z recently made the decision to live permanently in Los Angles, sources say Fanatics Sportsbook will be headquartered in NYC.

Jay-Z isn’t new to the industry, he previously held gaming licenses in Nevada and New Jersey. The Gaming Commission has until December to make its decision.

Michael B. Jordan Comments On Denzel Washington Comparisons

Last week, the internet was discussing if Michael B. Jordan is the Millennial version of Denzel Washington. Social media users went back and forth on whether Jordan is worthy of being compared to one of the greatest living actors on the planet.

“I’m having a debate, would y’all agree that Michael B Jordan is the next Denzel of our generation?” tweeted @KBxScoe on August 12. That viral post garnered nearly 2,000 quote-tweets. Most of the responses dismissed the idea.

Paparazzi recently asked Michael B. Jordan about some moviegoers considering him “the next Denzel.” The 34-year-old Creed and Black Panther star answered by sidestepping the question.

“That’s my mentor. It’s all love,” Michael B Jordan told the cameraman.

There does seem to be some level of a professional connection between the two actors. Michael B. Jordan is set to play the lead in the Denzel Washington-directed motion picture A Journal for Jordan alongside Chanté Adams and Jalon Christian.

The forthcoming drama is based on A Journal for Jordan: A Story of Love and Honor. Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalist Dana Canedy wrote the book about the true story of her husband, First Sergeant Charles Monroe King.

Previously, Denzel Washington directed 2002’s Antwone Fisher, 2007’s The Great Debaters, and 2016’s Fences. His acting filmography includes critically-acclaimed roles in Glory, Malcolm X, The Hurricane, Training Day, Fences, and Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Michael B. Jordan’s first major break came when he portrayed a teenage drug dealer named Wallace on HBO’s groundbreaking television series The Wire. He went on to be part of the cast of other TV programs like All My Children and Friday Night Lights. Jordan also starred in movies such as Hardball, Fantastic Four, Red Tails, Just Mercy, and Without Remorse.

T.I. Responds To Leslie Jordan Calling Him Out For His Comments About The LGBTQ Community

Leslie Jordan became an Instagram star during the COVID-19 pandemic. The actor, best known for his work on Will & Grace, picked up followers over the last year thanks to his amusing commentary about pop culture and more.

Over the last several weeks, DaBaby was a major topic in entertainment news because he was widely condemned for making remarks about people living with HIV/AIDS and homosexual men at the Rolling Loud Miami festival. Clifford “T.I.” Harris came out to defend DaBaby and downplay the criticism directed at the “Rockstar” rapper.

“And to be honest with you, if homosexuals have more rights than heterosexual people just say that. Let’s let that be the law. Is that the law?” stated T.I, before adding, “I ain’t even seen what all the hoopla about, some of y’all m############ just be up in arms and fake caring about s### just cause you ain’t got s### going on in your life over here.”

Leslie Jordan recently shared his thoughts on T.I. defending DaBaby’s homophobic comments. In a video posted to social media, Jones claimed he did not know who T.I. is, but the 66-year-old Chattanooga native joked that anything coming out of the mouth of T.I. is “TMI” (too much information).

T.I. responded to Leslie Jordan on Instagram. The musician/actor wrote:

Hey 👋🏽 Pleasure to meet your acquaintance Mr.@thelesliejordan😂 I appreciate the way you expressed your point of view without being offensive or negative. I truly believe this is the way we evolve and progress as a society. While I’m clueless as to what I said that was offensive/homophobic I welcome the opportunity to speak with you on the matter. I’m hoping we can sit down and have a conversation next time I come to LA, affording you the chance to convey your perspective to me, while allowing me to express mine to you. I truly believe that moments of calamity & confusion are teachable moments…. as long as we’re willing to communicate respectfully having open ears, open minds, & open dialogue without attacking or condemning one another. Who knows 🤷🏽‍♂️ this could be the stroke of serendipity that raises awareness, enlightens the dim, & improves the way gays & straights communicate & co-exist in the future. 🤞🏽looking forward to it….hoping you’ll oblige. Until then…peace and blessings…love and respect to you and yours sir.

@troubleman31 Instagram

Following his controversial set at Rolling Loud Miami, DaBaby apologized for his offensive comments before doubling down on his stance that he has the right to say whatever he wants. The Interscope recording artist then shared a second apology on his Instagram page before removing that post from his account.

DaBaby lost numerous other festival gigs, apparently as a result of failing to send organizers of the events an apology video that was supposed to play before his performances. He also lost a deal with the boohooMAN fashion brand, and the version of Dua Lipa’s Top 5 single “Levitating” featuring DaBaby was taken off some Pop radio stations’ playlists.

Lizzo Thanks Cardi B & Chlöe Bailey For Defending Her Against Cyberbullies

Lizzo should be on a personal high at the moment as her new song “Rumors” featuring Cardi B continues to see success on various music charts. However, the Grammy-winning vocalist is now dealing with being body-shamed by some people online.

Over the weekend, Lizzo broke down in tears in a video posted on social media as she talked about being cyberbullied about her weight and appearance. Cardi B came to the defense of her “Rumors” collaborator against the digital haters.

“When you stand up for yourself they claim [you’re] problematic & sensitive. When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this. Whether you [are] skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you. Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table,” posted Cardi B on Sunday. That tweet collected over 80,000 likes.

Cardi later added, “‘Rumors’ is doing great. Stop trying to say the song is flopping to dismiss a [woman’s] emotions on bullying or acting like they need sympathy. The song is top 10 on all platforms. Body shaming and [calling] her mammy is mean & racist as f###.”

Lizzo then also took to Twitter to show appreciation for Cardi B’s public support. The Cuz I Love You album creator tweeted, “Thank you @iamcardib — you’re such a champion for all people. Love you so much ❤️.”

In addition, Lizzo got the backing of singer/actress Chlöe Bailey. The Grown-ish star tweeted, “I’m so proud of you @lizzo. People are gonna talk, but you have power in your voice. Thank you for inspiring me ❤️🦋.”

Lizzo quote-tweeted Chlöe Bailey’s kind words and added, “😘Thank uuu. U know how it is out here but f### the haters. We Rise.” It appears Lizzo has now moved on from the negativity by tweeting a 4-second clip of herself laughing.

The “Rumors” is still currently the top trending music video on YouTube. Those visuals have collected over 10 million views since the song’s release on August 13. “Rumors” has also peaked in the Top 10 on the U.S. iTunes chart, U.S. Spotify Top 200 daily chart, and Apple Music Top 100: USA daily chart.

Chance The Rapper Talks Kanye West Not Being A Fan Of His Grammy Line On “Ultralight Beam”

While Chance The Rapper had gained the attention of many Hip Hop followers with the 10 Day, Acid Rap, and Surf projects, it was Chance’s verse on Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam” that caught the ear of many mainstream music lovers.

“I made ‘Sunday Candy’ – I’m never going to hell. I met Kanye West, I’m never going to fail. He said, ‘Let’s do a good-ass job with Chance 3.’ I hear you gotta sell it to snatch the Grammy,” rapped Chance on The Life of Pablo opening track.

Apparently, Kanye West was not a fan of those specific bars. Chance The Rapper spoke to grammy.com about the five-year anniversary of the Chicago native’s Coloring Book mixtape. He also discussed his “Ultralight Beam” verse and West’s feedback.

“I rapped on Kanye’s s### right before it came out that I was working on these three Grammys, and I was like, ‘If I keep rapping like that, and just saying s###’s gonna happen, that’s just gonna happen.’ And it started happening,” said Chance The Rapper.

The 28-year-old entertainer added, “Kanye didn’t want me to say that [line] on that song. And I had to go back and forth with him about keeping my line on there. That whole experience of working on [Pablo] was very transformative for a lot of people around me, because I was 40% of the way done with Coloring Book.”

Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo was released in February 2016. Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book arrived three months later in May 2016. Additionally, West showed up on Coloring Book‘s opener “All We Got” along with the Chicago Children’s Choir.

Many Hip Hop listeners view The Life of Pablo and Coloring Book as companion pieces because Chance The Rapper was heavily involved in the creation of the two projects. Plus, both bodies of work have elements of Gospel music incorporated into the projects’ sound.

“I do remember being sad in the first couple of nights because I was receiving some negative tweets around it. There were a lot of people saying, ‘Oh my god, it’s a f###### Gospel album,'” admitted Chance The Rapper about the initial reactions to Coloring Book. “That was the main conversation around it, like, ‘This dude tricked us and made a Gospel project.’ That wasn’t really my intention. I never wanted to make a Gospel album.”

The 3-time Grammy winner continued, “I like all my projects to talk about some realistic stuff, whatever I’m going through at the moment. Within 24 or 48 hours—I don’t remember what it was or if it started receiving positive press, or if I started going outside and seeing actual people tell me how they felt about the project, but I remember at a certain point, just getting past that and feeling loved and well-received. A lot of people wrote about how it brought them back to church on Sunday when they were kids, or brought them closer to Jesus or their faith. And I just remember feeling like, ‘Damn.'”

The Rap Game UK is Back With New Talent!

The latest season of The Rap Game UK is underway and has gotten off to a great start! Based on the US reality show of the same name, the UK version is now in its third season. The rappers competing in the UK contest are all adult artists unlike its US counterpart, fronted by Jermaine Dupri.

The series is hosted by UK artists DJ Target and rappers Krept and Konan. Each week, six emcees from across the UK battle it out to win a £25,000 prize. Also on hand for the winner is a mentoring scheme. The program is designed to help them to create, launch and promote new music once the competition has ended.

Like the US show, the unsigned rappers take part in a series of weekly challenges. Each trial is designed to test whether they have what it takes to break into the music industry.

Each week one unlucky rapper is sent home from the show’s luxury Manchester apartments where the contestants are staying for the duration of their time on the show.

Hosts DJ Target, Krept, and Konan also double up as judges in the talent contest. Each episode features guests from the UK rap scene to mentor the hopefuls.

Hoping to make it to the end of the competition and the £25k prize are contenders Kay Rico, Saidu, Pocaa, Oakzy B, BrynBP, and KayDizzy. Manchester rapper Meduulla makes an introduction to the show midway through the series.
Standout moments from the series so far include a hairpiece brought out mid-battle in an all-female clash and a rapper called out for spitting in an American accent, unacceptable in 2021!

The show is currently halfway through this first series giving you plenty of time to binge-watch the first few episodes to catch up! Out now on BBC iPlayer.

Lizzo Breaks Down Over Trolls Calling Her “Mammy”; Cardi B Rushes To Her Defense

Lizzo should be on top of the world this weekend because she has a hit record with Cardi B titled “Rumors.”

But instead of celebrating “Rumors” chart success thus far, Lizzo broke down in tears, due to trolls’ incessant body shaming of her.

Cardi and Lizzo dropped the video for “Rumors” on Friday, and the visual showcases lots of skin from both of the rap stars.

Lizzo has been subjected to insults that go beyond cruel ever since the video dropped.

Earlier today, Lizzo hopped on IG live to address the issue and broke down in tears over the hateful comments.

Some accused Lizzo of putting on a minstrel show, and others compared her to the character “Mammy” from the movie “Gone With The Wind” (Hattie McDaniel was actually the first black woman to win an Oscar for the role).

“For the most part, it doesn’t hurt my feelings. I don’t care,” Lizzo said through her tears. I just think when I’m working this hard my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower, I am more sensitive, and it gets to me.”

The rapper also addressed the issue on Twitter stating “Loving yourself in a world that don’t love u back takes an incredible amount of self awareness & a b####### detector that can see through ass backwards societal standards…if u managed to love yourself today I’m proud of u. If u haven’t, I’m still proud of u. This s#### hard.”

Lizzo, who vowed to do a better job at ignoring her haters on social media and only focusing on the positive, received some support from her “Rumors” collaborator, Cardi B.

“Rumors is doing great. Stop trying to say the song is flopping to dismiss a woman emotions on bullying or acting like they need sympathy,” Cardi B snapped. “The song is top 10 on all platforms. Body shaming and callin her mammy is mean & racist as f###.”

Cardi B called out Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey, and told him he needed to do a better job of policing the hateful comments on his platform.

Not only was she defending Lizzo, but she was also referring to a troll who kept making songs threatening to rape her daughter Kulture.

“Get the f### of my page .You literally have a song pin up on your page about raping my daughter.Ya do this every week until ya get deleted,” Cardi told the troll. “Demented mental illness sick weirdos @jack ya need to start not only suspending but blocking these sickos IP adress (sic).”
