Queen Naija Faces Backlash For Tweeting About A “Spirit Of Depression”

R&B singer Queen Naija is currently in the hot seat on social media. The YouTuber-turned-recording artist shared her thoughts about mental health this week, and the responses to her tweet were overwhelmingly negative.

“Last night I felt a spirit of depression trying to come on me and instead of dwelling in it, I commanded it to leave in the name of Jesus. God gave us power, we gotta use it,” wrote Queen Naija on December 28.

While Queen Naija turned off the replies to her tweet, other Twitter users slammed the 26-year-old Detroit native in the quote tweets. As of press time, Naija’s post collected over 1,400 QTs.

“Remember if depression tries to come in without consent it legally cannot. Follow for more legal tips,” tweeted one Twitter user. Another person tweeted, “I command this misinformation about mental health to stop in the name of my last good nerve.”

A person going by JC tweeted, “Girl huh? That’s not how this works. Depression isn’t a spirit, it’s a disorder. You’re just… sad today [I guess]?” Additionally, someone named Dij Saint Laurent joked, “That wasn’t depression. It was heartburn.”

Other users took aim at organized religion. One person wrote, “Calling mental illnesses ‘spirits’ is incredibly damaging. This is the type of thing that made me leave the church.” Yet another individual posted, “Honestly, I see why pastors are swindlers because imagine how easy it is to extract coin from [m############] who are as silly as this.”

Queen Naija Doubles Down On Her Views About Prayer Curing Depression

Queen Naija returned to Twitter in order to respond to the people taking issue with her stance about depression and its connection to religious faith. The Missunderstood album creator offered some words of amends before doubling down on her views about prayer.

“Never meant to offend anyone who goes through depression or any mental illnesses. Those things ARE real, however, I personally believe that there are bad spirits to put you in a bad place. However, I won’t take back that you have to use the power God gives you. To each, their own,” tweeted Queen Naija.

The former American Idol contestant added, “There’s power in prayer, I know first hand. If you don’t believe it tho, it won’t work for you. Oh Ye Little faith 🤷🏽‍♀️… Promise nobody will everrrrrrrr bully me out my faith or talking about it lol.”

Future Becomes First Person To Reach 10 Million Followers On SoundCloud

Future has added another accomplishment to his growing list of achievements since bursting onto the Hip-Hop scene in the early 2000s. The ” “Way 2 Sexy” hitmaker has become the most followed person on Soundcloud after amassing 10 million followers

Future took to his Instagram Stories to celebrate the accolade. He shared a post making the milestone and wrote a simple “Thank U…” in the caption.

When internet personality and podcaster DJ Akademiks shared Future’s post, the reactions in the comments section suggested folks were unimpressed.

“Future the first person to ever reach 10 million SoundCloud followers.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CYDjbtWsnfF/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

“Thought it would’ve been x or vert,” wrote one.

Another made a joke about Draco, famously “the first rapper” to do just about anything. “Soulja boy ain’t going to be happy,” he wrote.

Future recently declared, “Everything I do legendary or it want get done. Tuh. In the streets I’m bigger then Jigga. Ima run me a B up easy.” This may have been the basis for this comment, “Jay z Could Never 👎🏿”

However, over on Twitter, the responses were a little more buoyant.  “Finna see Soulja boy commin out the shadows,” was one comment.

Another suggested Future would finally, “break past being a soundcloud rapper one day.”

One user called Future, “godfather of modern rap.”

Meanwhile, Future raised a few eyebrows when thanking Joie Chavis, the mother of their 3-year-old son Hendrix for her extravagant Christmas gift. He shared a video of the diamond-encrusted “Hndrxx” bracelet and captioned the post, “THANKS JOY.” However, whether intentionally or not, he spelled her name wrong!

Juice Wrld’s Mother Calls Fans “A Bit Disrespectful” For Leaking Music

Since Juice Wrld’s untimely death in 2019 fans have continued to consume his music in ever-increasing numbers. His posthumous “Fighting Demons“ album arrived on December 10 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Furthermore, another eleven songs premiered on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart.

A post shared by Juice WRLD 9 9 9 (@juicewrld999)

However, Juice Wrld had an extensive catalog of unreleased music, some of which has leaked to the public. Carmella Wallace, Juice’s mother, spoke of her disappointment at the unauthorized releases in a recent interview with XXL.

Juice Wrld’s Leaked Tracks Are Unfinished

“I understand they loved him. They loved his music, but there’s a proper way to do it,” Juice’s mother said. “Let us give you our best. Leaked music is not necessarily cleaned up music, it’s just leaked, it’s not finished. So, it’s just a lot of work just going into it. It’s a bit disrespectful to him, honestly, to leak his music like that. But I know that monster is there, been there and it’s not going anywhere. We can just do our part and put out good music. He made a lot of good music.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Wallace shared details about the foundation she started in honor of Juice Wrld. “Live Free 999” aims to “just normalize the conversation around mental health”, and “take the stigma away from” seeking help for mental illness.

Furthermore, “Live Free 999” provides avenues for up-and-coming artists to “showcase their talent” through merchandising. The charity has established a free and confidential, 24/7 crisis text line, “where if they need help, they have someone to talk to, where they are not being judged”.

Juice Wrld’s mother explained the importance of having open channels of communication between parents and children. “I was honest with him. The same way I am is the same way I was with him,” Wallace shared. “I was transparent. We talked about drugs and his use. We talked about him getting help. I don’t want to glorify drugs. I just want you to see the outcome of it. The outcome of what can happen if you allow yourself to stay in that state.”

Tsu Surf Intense Battle Rapper Of The Year Debate

As 2021 comes to a close, the only subject worthy of discussion in the battle rap streets is that of Champion of the Year!

The annual competition to decide the best battler of the year, or COTY, hosted by premier battle rap media platform Champion, is underway. Surveys have been issued, and a GoFundMe has been launched to raise the prize winnings. The total currently sits at $5,423, over halfway to the $10,000 goal.

The race is hotly contested as this year brought more battles than the culture has ever seen before. There are several favorites touted as potential winners for the title. They include two-time previous winner Geechi Gotti, Rum Nitty, A. Ward, and Eazy The Block Captain.

Champion’s own Jay Blac was in a Twitter Space yesterday morning (Dec. 28) debating the topic. Various battle rappers, including some in contention for COTY, passed through the discussion. Tsu Surf was one of the more opinionated debaters. While the New Jersey rapper has ruled himself out as a potential winner many see him as a viable contender. Despite having only three battles this year, he argues, and many agree, he is yet to lose a round in 2021.

On the opposite end of the spectrum but also in contention is A. Ward. One of the year’s most prolific battlers, Ward’s consistency is near unmatched with few clear losses this year across a range of competition. However, the Christian battler is yet to touch the URL stage, something many believe prevents him from winning COTY. Ultimate Rap League is considered the “NBA of Battle Rap’” and some fans think a performance on the platform is necessary to secure COTY.

Tsu Surf & Jay Blac Debate COTY

When the topic inevitably turned to A. Ward, Jay Blac confirmed the rules allow for a winner who has not battled on URL. According to Blac, it’s simply a numbers game rather than any bias to the brand. While there are three main leagues – King of the Dot, Rare Breed Entertainment, and URL – they aren’t on level footing. “URL throws the most events,” he said. “It’s really that simple. 85 percent of the events thrown are URL events.”

Nevertheless, Surf was confident a battler could not win COTY within the next 5 years without battling on the URL. So confident, he will give $5,000 to anyone able to do it. Surf claimed that though URL throw “85 percent of the events” they also have “85 of the talent.” Furthermore, he pointed out the difference in pressure the URL spotlight brings and the impact this has on performance.

Jakkboy Maine offered it was more about the big names that fans pay money to see. “RBE doesn’t have the draws,” he said. Blac countered and said the other leagues need to throw “a lot more events” to even up the score.

Could Geechi Gotti Take A Third Title?

Meanwhile, Geechi Gotti who was COTY 2018 and 2019, delivered an impassioned speech detailing his view on why he is the only worthy winner this year.

A. Ward Lists His Contenders

After days of being at the center of the discussion, A. Ward took some time out to reflect and was inspired to share his thoughts with his fans. He named four battlers and detailed why they should also be in the race alongside him for COTY.

Be on the look out for AllHipHop’s annual Battle Rap Superlatives survey, coming soon!

Dior Postpones Travis Scott Collaboration Indefinitely

The shadow of November’s AstroWorld tragedy continues to loom as another significant brand has fallen back from Travis Scott.

A major fashion house has pumped the breaks “indefinitely” on a once anticipated collaboration.

According to WWD, Dior has ‘indefinitely postponed’ Travis Scott and Kim Jones’ Cactus Jack capsule collection.

The collection was slated for a summer 2022 launch, but the Dior campaign will be postponed after so many people were injured and lost their lives at his signature festival.

Dior released a statement that said, “Out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, Dior has decided to postpone indefinitely the launch of products from the Cactus Jack collaboration originally intended to be included in its summer 2022 collection.”

Dior is not the first brand to distance itself from the “Sicko Mode” artist.

Amidst endorsement deals falling apart and a billion dollars worth of lawsuits coming his way, he is now being investigated by Congress.

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform released this [statement (https://oversight.house.gov/sites/democrats.oversight.house.gov/files/2021-12-22.CBM%20Comer%20et%20al.%20to%20Rapino-Live%20Nation%20re%20Astroworld.pdf) right before Christmas.

“Recent reports raise serious concerns about whether your company took adequate steps to ensure the safety of the 50,000 concertgoers who attended Astroworld Festival … For instance, reports indicate that security and medical staff were inexperienced or ill-equipped to deal with mass injuries.

Some attendees stated that the placement of barricades made it difficult to escape. Experts have stated that Astroworld Festival organizers failed to heed warning signs.”

“We are deeply saddened by the deaths that occurred at Astroworld Festival and are committed to investigating what went wrong to inform possible reforms that could prevent future tragedies,” it continued.

In the letter, The Members further requested information on the roles and responsibilities for Astroworld Festival, security for the event, and steps promoter Live Nation Entertainment took, once made aware that law enforcement had declared a “mass casualty event.”

Dr. Dre To Pay His Ex-Wife $100 MILLION In Divorce Settlement

Dr. Dre and Nicole Young reached a settlement in their divorce on Tuesday (December 28).

According to Rolling Stone and TMZ, Dr. Dre will pay $100 million to his ex-wife to settle their divorce. Young will initially receive $50 million then be paid the rest a year from now.

Dr. Dre’s net worth was listed as $458.2 million in court documents filed in November. His net worth was once estimated to be well over $800 million.

In addition to a $100 million payout, Dr. Dre’s ex-wife will get to keep four vehicles and all of her jewelry. The vehicles include a Rolls Royce, Range Rover, Escalade limousine and Spyder motorcycle.

As part of the deal, Young must move out of the former couple’s Malibu beach house by the end of the month. She also must pay her own legal fees, which will cost her millions of dollars.

Dr. Dre was able to maintain all of the rights to his master recordings and his Apple stock in the divorce proceedings. He’s also secured sole ownership of seven properties, including a $100 million estate in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood.

The settlement ends an 18-month legal battle between Dr. Dre and Young. A prenuptial agreement, which was signed in 1996, was a major source of contention as both sides clashed over its validity.

Yo Gotti Refutes Rumors About CMG Dropping Blac Youngsta

Yo Gotti publicly addressed rumors about his label CMG supposedly dropping Blac Youngsta.

After several Hip Hop outlets spread the rumor on social media, Yo Gotti expressed his frustration via Twitter on Tuesday (December 28). He labeled the story as “fake news,” affirming Blac Youngsta is still part of the CMG family.

“I’m seeing too much Rap [cap] on these blogs,” Yo Gotti wrote. “Fake News!! LIL bro A BOSS He Can’t Be Dropped #CMG #HeavyCamp.”

He added, “P.s Keep my name out all these rumors.”

The Blac Youngsta rumor picked up steam since he’s been generating controversy as of late. Earlier this month, he performed his Young Dolph diss “Shake Sum” at a club in Dallas.

Young Dolph, who was shot and killed in November, was a longtime rival of Yo Gotti and Blac Youngsta. Despite facing backlash for performing a diss track about a dead man, Blac Youngsta defended his actions in a lengthy Instagram post.

“IM THE TYPE OF N#### WHO AIN’T NEVA SAT BACK AND LOOKED FOR NOBODY TO FEEL SORRY FA ME!” he wrote. “I COME FROM THE HEART OF SOUTH MEMPHIS WHERE YOU GET NO SYMPATHY, DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT IS… WITH THAT BEING SAID I COULD GIVE 2 F### WHAT THE WORLD THINK BOUT ME.”

Blac Youngsta also came under fire for a music video called “I’m Assuming,” which evoked imagery of the late Young Dolph. The string of bad press made the CMG rumor seem plausible to some observers, prompting Yo Gotti to set the record straight.

Styles P & Havoc Talk Rivalry With Mobb Deep & The Lox, Wreckage Manner Film, Jadakiss, Prodigy & MORE

A pandemic is mostly about survival. After you learn to survive, there’s the thriving part. That gets tricky in Hip-Hop, especially in a world that is changing oh-so-rapidly on multiple fronts.

Styles P of The Lox and Havoc of Mobb Deep have come together to form Wreckage Manner, a new group with some familiar sensibilities. Perhaps most importantly, this shows the definitive return of Havoc to the forefront since the tragic death of Prodigy. It is not as if he has not been working, but it has been covertly, beneath the surface. A consortium of artists like Dark-Lo, Nyce da Future, Conway The Machine, Flee Lord, RJ Payne and even pop sensation Kanye West have benefitted from one of the production genius of Hav. It is so good to have him back in front, rapping with a wolf like Styles P.

Styles has continued to stay at in the GOAT conversations with a steady stream of classic, hardcore rap music – effectively outworking the competition. He has released 10 projects in the last five years. This does not include albums with The Lox. Or moments like the Verzuz battle against The Diplomats. Few remember it was Styles and Jim Jones’s back-and-forth on social media that set the table for Jada to eat. More importantly, Styles has grown into a though leader of sorts as well as a healthy lifestyle mogul that challenges just about every convention in rap.

What has not changed is their desire to release classic Hip-Hop music that resonates with their base. They are not stopping there. The pair, who clearly hold each other in high regard, talk to Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur at WonWorld Studios about a myriad of topics. They discuss being two OGs in a meta world fighting algorithms, but staying true to their art. They accept the challege of re-blossoming in the present time through technology, film and a true dedication to Wreckage Manner. Take a close look and see what evolution, survival and prosperity look like.

Issa Rae Says The Music Industry Is Full Of Crooks And Criminals

Issa Rae has claimed that the music industry is full of “crooks and criminals.”

During a Q&A with the Los Angeles Times, the 36-year-old actress was asked whether music is where “good ideas flourish” as she discussed opening her record label, Raedio.

“Absolutely not. It’s probably the worst industry I’ve ever come across,” the “Insecure” creator explained. “I thought Hollywood was crazy. The music industry, it has to start all over again. There are lots of conflicts of interest. Archaic mentalities. Villains and criminals!”

Issa Rae described the business as “an addiction industry,”, adding “I really feel for artists who need to get into it… it was something shocking.”

The multi-hyphenate did not speak to specific experiences but said her opinions were shaped by putting together soundtracks for shows and speaking to artists involved in the industry.

“I do not want to be too specific, but even with making our own appointments (for soundtracks) with labels or artists, it would be so intricate. And to find out how artists were treated on other labels…” Issa Rae continued. “When I myself am a creator and know what I want in relation to a relationship with a production company or a producer, I would like to think that we are more artist-friendly than much of other brands and companies out there. I want to renew things.”

Rae also called out the Grammys, stating the awards show often overlooks music by Black artists, such as WizKid.

“This is dumb, but I’ll say it anyway: A song like (WizKid’s) Essence – just absolutely a powerhouse, and yet could not be properly acknowledged by the institution that is supposed to celebrate the best in music – that trips me out,” she concluded. “To see Black people and our contributions to music not celebrated in the way they should be – I mean, these aren’t institutions for us.”

“Obsessed” Fan Arrested At Kylie Jenner’s Beverly Hills Home

Kylie Jenner and her family can thankfully breathe a sigh of relief. A troubled fan of Jenner showed up at the billionaire Kylie Cosmetics founder’s home over the weekend.

According to TMZ, law enforcement officials arrested Jrue Mesgan outside Kylie Jenner’s Holmby Hills home in Beverly Hills, California on Sunday. Apparently, Mesgan visited the location several times in recent months.

Jrue Mesgan’s apparent obsession with Kylie Jenner caused the 24-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star to seek a restraining order against the 23-year-old man. Mesgan allegedly violated that legal directive by appearing at Jenner’s residence.

Apparently, a security guard called the police after seeing Jrue Mesgan at Kylie Jenner’s house. Cops took Mesgan into custody for misdemeanor violation of a court order. He is being held on $20,000 bail.

Kylie Jenner recently reconciled with Hip Hop star Travis Scott after the celebrity couple broke up in September 2019. The famous socialite gave birth to their first daughter, Stormi Webster, on February 1, 2018. Jenner is currently pregnant with Scott’s second child.

Roddy Ricch’s ‘Live Life Fast’ Debuts In The Top 5 On The Billboard 200 Chart

Roddy Ricch dropped off his latest body of work, Live Life Fast, on December 17. The Atlantic Records release managed to make it into the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 chart in its opening week.

Live Life Fast debuted at #4 with 62,000 first-week album-equivalent units. This marks Roddy Ricch’s second consecutive Top 10 entry on the Billboard album rankings.

2019’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial spent four weeks at #1. The now-Diamond-certified, long-running #1 single “The Box” helped that album remain on the Billboard 200 for a total of 106 weeks.

Roddy Ricch also found a spot on the Billboard 200 with 2018’s Feed Tha Streets II mixtape. That Gold-certified project stayed on the chart for 67 weeks, peaking at #67 in April 2019.

The 62,000-unit opening for Live Life Fast was a significant decline from the 101,000 first-week units amassed by Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial. Also, the LLF lead single “Late at Night” was not able to match the commercial success of “The Box.”

Live Life Fast featured guest appearances by Future, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, Takeoff, Jamie Foxx, Ty Dolla $ign, Alex Isley, Fivio Foreign, Lil Baby, and Gunna. Names such as Southside, Ronny J, Wheezy, Boi-1da, Kenny Beats, TM88, and Mustard provided production.

Elsewhere on this week’s Billboard 200 chart, Adele’s 30 held onto #1 for a fifth consecutive week. Mariah Carey‘s Merry Christmas album from 1994 sits at #7. Juice WRLD’s posthumous Fighting Demons fell seven spots to #9 in week two.

Rolling Loud Announces Early Bird Presale For Rolling Loud Miami Festival 2022

Rolling Loud has become one of the biggest live events in the music industry. The Hip Hop-centered concert is returning to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens on July 22-24.

Early Bird presale tickets for Rolling Loud Miami 2022 will be available soon. Fans can buy General Admission and VIP packages beginning December 30 at 12 pm ET at rollingloud.com.

Rolling Loud Miami 2021 featured a star-studded lineup of performers. After taking a hiatus in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival came back this year with A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott, and Post Malone as headliners.

Lil Baby, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Young Thug, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, City Girls, and more acts were on the bill as well. WWE also aired several matches from Rolling Loud Miami for the wrestling company’s Smackdown television show.

While Rolling Loud Miami 2021 signified somewhat of a return to normalcy following COVID-19 shutdowns, the event also made headlines for other reasons. A large video wall collapsed at the site on the first day of the festival.

Additionally, DaBaby provided the most newsworthy moment from Rolling Loud Miami 2021. The North Carolina-bred rapper faced significant backlash for his on-stage comments about HIV/AIDS. That incident caused other festivals to cancel DaBaby’s scheduled performances.

The negative press surrounding Rolling Loud Miami 2021 did not stop organizers from pulling off well-received editions in New York and California later in the year. Rolling Loud is planning to continue to take the show to other continents in 2022.

UK Rapper Bugzy Malone Shares Film Documenting His Last Ever Tour

Bugzy Malone, currently starring alongside Jason Statham in the Guy Ritchie-directed flick “Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre,” said he needs to prioritize his commitments.

“If next year I’ve got three more films,” he said. “and I’ve got music to release and I’ve got clothing to design and I’ve got trainers to produce. All of a sudden becomes less simple to commit 100% of myself.”

Latto Drops “Super Gremlin Freestyle” As “Big Energy” Hits No. 1 On Rhythmic Radio

Alyssa “Latto” Stephens has a lot to celebrate this holiday season. 2021 was a triumphant year for the Atlanta native as she secured a spot as a rap star to keep an eye on.

Earlier this year, Latto changed her stage name from the controversial Mulatto. That was followed by the release of the “Big Energy” single which has now climbed to #1 at Rhythmic Radio.

In celebration of the success of “Big Energy,” Latto dropped visuals for “Super Gremlin Freestyle.” The track’s official music video is currently trending in the Top 20 of YouTube’s music section.
