Converse All Stars JAM & Philly Drop Debut Music Video for “Photographs” and Launch Record Label for South Asian Americans

Converse All Stars JAM & Philly have dropped their debut music video for “Photographs” – floating between hip-hop, R&B, and pop to create a fresh blend.

The track features rapper Miskreet and tackles the reflective pain of heartbreak.

Directed by Archit Upadhyay, the video follows main characters JAM, Philly and Miskreet throughout the city of Boston as they each share regrets and emotional truths with their leading ladies.

The single kicks off with Philly’s soulful vocals, reminiscing about a past love: “All these photographs are the moments that we will never get again.”

JAM speeds things up for the first verse, melodically exposing his faults, “Loyalty, empathy, patience, look what you wasted, I didn’t deserve. How can I cry over someone and something as if I’m the victim when I made you hurt?.”

Third on the track is Miskreet, who switches gears with his spit-fire delivery to offer an angrier post-relationship perspective.

“Photographs” reflects on lost love and the road of mistakes that leads to heartbreak.

Originally from outside Chicago, South Asian American brothers JAM and Philly were always lonely faces of color in their hometown.

Often stereotyped, music became their shared outlet. With JAM as a lyricist and Philly as a producer, they made a perfect duo.

As artists, they are committed to creating a new future of mainstream representation for their community.

“Photographs” is the first release from Outer Voice Records – a groundbreaking South Asian American record label founded by the brothers in November 2020.

Outer Voice is building an entertainment institution that will claim much-needed space for underrepresented American artists of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali, Afghan, Maldivian, and Bhutanese descent.

As an often unheard minority in music, Outer Voice aspires to change this narrative. The label is now accepting applications from young South Asian American artists and creatives across the country, including singers, rappers, songwriters, producers, sound engineers, filmmakers, photographers, graphic designers, and A&R.

Hip Hop & VILLON: A Revolution of Cognac

As such a rich cognac, VILLON has been thriving and your favorite Hip Hop stars from Moneybagg Yo to Kodak Black and more can’t get enough of the spirit.

VILLON has an incredible palette of aromas that have been created to echo the changing seasons. The toasted oak evokes winter, vanilla and spice represent autumn; notes of orange blossom being spring to mind, and summer is represented with delicate peach aromas. The luxuriously complex yet balanced spirit can be served neat, over ice, or as the foundation of your own uniquely perfect cocktail.

The alluring spirit was hand-crafted in Merpins, in the heart of Cognac, southwestern France. Created by time-tested, small batch traditions, VILLON is made from fine VSOP and XO Cognac, and exquisite blend of spirits distilled from French wheat and natural flavors.

VILLON is also rich in history as it was named after medieval poet, Francois Villon. Villon wrote about love, sex, money trouble, dirty cops, lewd monks, “the thieving rich,” and the consolations of good food and wine. Villon was also a lot of other things from an important voice of the Middle Ages to a thief and a brawler. His enigmatic story is also the inspiration for the new spirit’s image and ethos.

Gang Member Turned Author Monster Kody Has Died

Former gang member turned best selling author Monster Kody Scott has died, according to sources with AllHipHop. His turbulent life as an Eight Tray Crip was transformed into a remarkable work of art, “Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member.”

He was 57.

He would eventually denounce his former life and change his name to Sanyika Shakur (unifier and gatherer of his people), but he would never fully shake his street name.

“I was a criminal. I became a revolutionary. And people expected me to commit class suicide as a successful writer and become a noted author, and to me, I didn’t want to go that way. I didn’t want to be the go to guy when they said, ‘What about gangs?’ Because that’s not what it’s about,” he wrote.

Shakur got his gang nickname at the age of 13-year-old gang member in the mid-1970s. He was known to viciously beat his opponents, shoot it out, and committed robberies. He was mentored by Tookie Williams, founder of the Crips.

He was shot and beaten numerous times before going to jail for an extended period. It was then that he continued to grow as a person, completely denouncing his life. In 1993, he published his book in Pelican Bay, a maximum security prison, while in solitary confinement.

He eventually befriended Tupac Shakur and even tried his hands at rapping.

He reportedly died of a stroke, but that has yet to be confirmed by his family.

Check out this rundown of his life and times.

Mekka Don Provides Soundtrack Of The Times With “Still Dope”

Columbus, Ohio born rapper Mekka Don is no stranger to seeing the fruits of his labor flourish as an acclaimed rapper.

Having had his music spotlighted, spanning from praise with local, national, and global media outlets to going viral on social media, not much more is left to achieve for this quintessential renaissance man.

A few achievements that bring the previous said statements to life includes seeing success with his viral hit “Nip and Tuck (2017),” which dominated on radio, features, and social media with the Nip and Tuck Challenge and his 2014 single “Rock For My Browns,” which was licensed as the official anthem for the Cleveland Browns.

Today, he continues to prevail as Mekka unveils the visual for his empowering single “Still Dope.”

In the self-directed visual, Mekka genuinely plays off the refreshing message of pride, people, and power, and persistence that brings to life the Tha Audio Unit produced track.

Now on the verge of creating the next soundtrack of the times, Mekka keeps the releases flowing with the accompanying visual, which comes just in time for Black Music Month.

“I wanted to make sure the visual matched the energy and spirit of the record itself. I wanted it to reflect the dopeness of our history globally, our present, and our future. It’s a reminder that we’re STILL DOPE and that we’re still here and still standing,” he says.

Themes of self-love and togetherness are soulfully depicted as Mekka highlights Black figures who have made a prominent impact on history as it continues to be written.

Providing something for everyone in a manner that hones in on unapologetic unity and upliftment on his latest offering, success for “Still Dope” is rightfully inevitable with this transformative tune.

Drake To Appear Live At NOME XI Battle Rap Event For ‘Ultimate Madness 3’ Finals

Aubrey Drake Graham is a longtime fan of the battle rap scene. The Toronto-raised music superstar has been on stage at Ultimate Rap League events in the past.

Last year, Drake became an official partner with URL when he and the world’s leading battle rap organization joined forces to launch a new channel on the Caffeine.tv streaming platform. That alliance has led to numerous live events.

URL’s NOME XI is scheduled to stream live on Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13 via Caffeine. Drake will be present to reward the $100,000 prize to the winner of the Ultimate Madness 3 competition.

Both male and female battler rappers have competed in Ultimate Madness 3 since it started in April 2021. A Geechi Gotti versus Rum Nitty finals is set for NOME XI.

The showcase will also display Tay Roc versus Chilla Jones, Ave versus Jey The Nitewing, DNA versus B Dot, T-Top versus Swamp, Danny Meyers versus Real Sikh, Mike P versus Lu Castro, and T-Rex versus Eazy Da Block Captain.

Cleveland-bred spitter Fonz reigned supreme during the first-ever Ultimate Madness tournament series by beating Jey The Nitewing at NOME X. Fonz will face off against JC at NOME XI. Holmzie Da God was crowned the champion of Ultimate Madness 2 after defeating Bill Collector.

First Round Battles of UM3

“Last year, we changed the game and introduced a brand new crop of emcees to the world,” said URL co-owner Troy “Smack White” Mitchell. The Ultimate Madness 3 bracket included Cortez, O’fficial, Riggz, Jerry Wess, Swamp, Jakkboy Maine, T-Top, Serious Jones, Drugz, Yoshi G, Prep, Swave Sevah, Nu Jerzey Twerk, and Casey Jay.

While battle rappers were unable to perform in front of full crowds in 2020, URL managed to draw 8.7 million views on Caffeine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drake stated, “I remember how difficult it was to stream battles, so to have made it easy enough that millions are watching and the fan base keeps growing is amazing.”

Ultimate Rap League Presents NOME XI begins on Saturday, June 12 at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET live on Caffeine. Surprises from URL and Drake have been teased for the event.

R. Kelly’s Lawyers Want Out Of Representing The Singer In His Federal Case

Robert Sylvester Kelly (professionally known as R. Kelly) is dealing with a shakeup on his legal team. Attorneys Steve Greenberg and Michael Leonard asked a federal judge to be withdrawn from the sex trafficking case in New York.

“Our reasons for withdrawal are significant and it is impossible, in our belief, for us to be able to continue to properly represent Mr. Kelly under the current circumstances,” read a letter to Judge Ann M. Donnelly written by Greenberg.

Steve Greenberg and Michael Leonard apparently clashed with R. Kelly’s other lawyers. Attorneys Thomas A. Farinella and Nicole Blank Becker claim Kelly fired their colleagues prior to their letter to the judge being filed.

“We refused to try a case with lawyers who don’t have the appropriate level of experience and skill because that is not in the client’s best interest. It is a shame that lawyers can’t suppress their own egos or self-interest and do or act in the client’s best interest,” Greenberg and Leonard told Newsweek.

Kelly’s is scheduled to appear in court on August 9 in New York City. He was charged with racketeering predicated on criminal conduct including sexual exploitation of children, kidnapping, forced labor, and Mann Act violations.

“As alleged, R. Kelly, together with employees and members of his entourage, engaged in a racketeering enterprise that preyed upon women and girls who attended his concerts so that the victims could be available to engage in illegal sexual activity with him at a moment’s notice,” stated Richard P. Donoghue, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, in 2019.

Donoghue added, “Today that comes to an end. This indictment makes clear that fame and power will not shield anyone from prosecution, particularly predators who victimize vulnerable members of our communities for their own sexual gratification.”

The 54-year-old singer is also expected to stand trial in the Northern District of Illinois on separate federal child pornography and obstruction charges. Steve Greenberg has told reporters he plans to ask to be removed from that case as well.

“This indictment demonstrates our office’s commitment to holding individuals such as Kelly accountable for criminal sexual abuse of minors, protecting the victims of such crimes, and punishing those who obstruct law enforcement investigations,” said United States Attorney John R. Lausch, Jr. following Kelly’s 2019 arrest in Chicago.

R. Kelly has pled not guilty to all counts. If convicted in New York, Kelly faces up to 20 years in prison for the racketeering and Mann Act Coercion and Enticement counts, respectively, as well as up to 10 years in prison for each of the Mann Act Transportation counts.

Mariah Carey Leaves Jay-Z’s Roc Nation To Downsize With Range Media Partners

There have been a lot of rumors regarding Mariah Carey’s relationship with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter’s Roc Nation company. While Carey insisted she has no bad blood with Jay-Z, it has been confirmed the two sides have parted ways.

Deadline reports Mariah Carey is now signed to Range Media Partners. The new deal comes after the music icon spent three and a half years under the Roc Nation management umbrella.

According to TMZ, Mariah Carey’s decision to change managers was centered around wanting to work with a smaller team of people handling her career. The outlet also corroborated that Carey and Carter did not have a falling out.

British tabloid The Sun ran an article claiming Mariah Carey left Roc Nation following an “explosive meeting” involving Jay-Z. However, Carey shot down that gossip on social media.

“The only ‘explosive’ situation I’d ever ‘get into’ with Hov is a creative tangent, such as our #1 song ‘Heartbreaker’!! To the people who make up these lies I say ‘Poof! —Vamoose, sonofa*****!'” tweeted Carey on June 7, referencing Jay-Z’s “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” track.

During her tenure with Roc Nation, Mariah Carey released the critically-acclaimed 2018 album Caution which peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart. She also launched her Las Vegas residency, The Butterfly Returns, that same year.

Carey’s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” from 1994 hit #1 on the Hot 100 chart in 2019 and 2020. In addition, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special featuring Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, and more premiered in 2020 on Apple TV+.

The 5-time Grammy winner will be featured on a new song by legendary songwriting/production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. “Somewhat Loved” is expected to live on the upcoming Jam & Lewis: Volume 1 album. The Mariah Carey-led single is scheduled for release on June 10.

Teyana Taylor Reacts To Being Named Maxim’s First Black “Sexiest Woman Alive”

Singer/actress/dancer/director Teyana Taylor was ranked at #1 for Maxim magazine’s 2021 “Sexiest Woman Alive” issue. The 30-year-old entertainer became the first African-American to top the annual list.

Teyana Taylor took to Instagram to post a lengthy message to her 12.4 million followers about being named the latest “Sexiest Woman Alive” cover star. Her caption celebrated the fact she was photographed for the publication wearing sweatpants and a skully hat.

The “Wake Up Love” songstress wrote:

😩😩😩😩 Somebody pinch me!!!! Maxim Hot 100 to be named the ‘Sexiest Woman alive’ by literally living in the skin I’m in. WOW….Stepping back in front of the lens has been a journey of self-reflection and self-confidence. Living up to name and title of this shoot wholeheartedly made me nervous.
As a entrepreneur, wife, a busy mother of two & working behind the lens in my director bag I tend to hide behind my sweats & vintage tees, My “Spike Tey” glasses, and whatever hair style I’ve mustered up that day under my @theauntiesinc snap back! So I as you can see I don’t have much time to be and feel sexy. This particular day was dope because it made me see another side of myself. I had just dropped JUNIE off at school before heading straight to the shoot; sweatpants a beanie and an army jacket. My hair wasn’t done for a “shoot” because I planned on throwing on a wig & I didn’t have on any make up. But when I got there the legendary @Gilles_bensimon said and I quote…. “Let’s shoot! I want you to stay in this…” I said “HUH?! Well let me at least start my make up.. ” as y’all can see I barely had any lashes left 😩 He says no “my dear this is pure.” And in regular Teyana Taylor fashion I said “okay but look Ah b#### doing her baby hairs” LOL I was like SO LET ME UNDERSTAND THIS…I WILL BE THE SEXIEST Woman Alive IN SWEATS AND A SKULLY? 🥴 Um I guess….” as confused as I was my heart also melted… I say all of this to say in the true words of Audrey Hepburn… “The beauty of a woman is not in facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.” Embrace and love yourselves for who & what you are because only the purest heart shines through. Thank you @maximmag I am truly honored to have graced the cover. Thank you @gilles_bensimon for being so much fun 💕 Thankful for everyone involved!

Previous top-ranked Maxim Hot 100 women include Estella Warren (2000), Jessica Alba (2001), Christina Aguilera (2003), Eva Longoria (2005, 2006), Katy Perry (2010), Miley Cyrus (2013), Taylor Swift (2015), and Olivia Culpo (2019).

Quavo Responds To ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins Dissing His Bars

Earlier this week, Kendrick Perkins took a direct shot at Quavo’s writing skills. The Migos member has now offered a response to the ESPN NBA analyst’s diss.

“I see @QuavoStuntin still dropping them trash a$$ bars!!! Carry on…,” tweeted Kendrick Perkins. Quavo fired back on Twitter by posting a photo of Perkins along with a caption promoting Migos’ upcoming Culture 3 album.

The exchange between Perkins and Quavo appears to be the latest round in their heated back and forth. On the 2018 song “F### 12” off the Quavo Huncho album, the Atlanta native rapped, “Get no playin’ time, Kendrick Perkins.”

Kendrick Perkins addressed his issues with Quavo during a 2019 interview. According to the former Boston Celtics player, the beef also somehow involved Drake.

“I almost got into it with Quavo cause he tried to put me on the song cause him and Drake real close,” said Perkins. “He tried to like diss me, he tried to say something like, he was talking about getting a girl’s number, and he was like ‘no playing time, Kendrick Perkins.’”

He continued, “So I was like uh, no, and you need to stick to staying with the Migos and not going solo. I kinda wanted to fire back because his album flopped anyway, I mean it was trash. I was just like why are these little dudes coming after me?”

Quavo Huncho was not as commercially successful as the Migos projects Culture and Culture II. However, Quavo’s only solo LP did peak at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart and earned Gold certification from the RIAA.

Migos are set to release the third installment in the group’s Culture album series on Friday, June 11. The southern trio dropped the single “Straightenin” last month.

Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff performed “Straightenin” at the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Logan Paul boxing event on June 6. Kendrick Perkins’s “trash a$$ bars” tweet seemed to be a reaction to the Migos’ ring entrance performance.

Directed by The Architects, it gives a zip through his career with the New York’s A$AP MOB and how he was able to capture the attention of multiple pockets of music and fashion lovers.

Seemingly on top of the world, A$AP Rocky’s fairytale rags-to-uber-riches story was interrupted by a fight overseas in Europe.

His dream life became a nightmare after he was charged with assault in July of 2019, after brawling in the street with a man named Mustafa Jafari. The rapper was released before his trial in August of 2019, in which he was found guilty of assault.

In “Stockholm Syndrome,” the artist courageously shares the national and cultural biases that were at play by the Swedish judicial system during his incarceration.

According to Tribecafilm.com, “the film blends archival footage with contemporary interviews, animation, and electrifying live concert footage to tell the astonishing story of how one of rap’s biggest superstars became embroiled in an international incident, leading to an unexpected political awakening.”

Featured in the doc are people who were integral parts in getting him released including stars like his groupmate, A$AP Ferg, Kim Kardashian, Naomi Campbell, and Tyler The Creator.

The in-person screening at The Battery on June 13 is already sold-out, but fans can watch the movie via Tribeca’s At Home streaming on-demand service from June 14-23.

Mariah Carey Shoots Down Reports Of Blow Out Fight With Jay-Z

Last week, gossip site The Sun put out the rumor that Mariah Carey and Jay-Z had an “explosive” public fight that ended up in her breaking ties with her management company, Roc Nation.

Welp, Muvah Mariah has clapped back.

The Queen of the Whistle note is now speaking out hoping to shut down any chatter about the two powerhouses parting ways.

She took to her social media and wrote: “The only ‘explosive’ situation I’d ever ‘get into’ with Hov is a creative tangent, such as our #1 song ‘Heartbreaker’!! To the people who make up these lies I say ‘Poof! —Vamoose, sonofa*****”!’”

The five-to-seven octave soprano signed with Roc Nation management in 2017 and clearly wants people to focus on her projects— tossing back to 1997 when she and Jigga partnered on the Jermaine Dupri produced “Heartbreaker” which samples Stacy Latissaw’s “Attack of the Name Game.”

The singer, who has had chart-topping songs hit Billboard in four consecutive decades, is also promoting other projects, like her new memoir. She tweeted a cover of the book — that features a sweet picture of her as a little girl — out to fans.

“My little girl self is jumping up and down right now!! The Meaning of Mariah Carey – Paperback Edition Pre-order now.”

The Sun is notorious for spreading false rumors and using unscrupulous actions to access the private details of celebrities.

Prince Harry, the former Duke of Sussex, sued the rag in 2019 alleging that the site illegally intercepted voicemail messages for publication on their site.
