Pioneering DJ Eddie Cheba Suffers Third Stroke; Russell Simmons Calls For Action

The first time Russell Simmons saw the “world famous” Eddie Cheba perform at the Harlem club Charles Gallery, it was 1977. That night inspired Simmons to pursue a career in Hip-Hop, and it wouldn’t be long before both Rush Communications and Def Jam Recordings became a reality. Cheba was known as one of the best DJs in the city alongside DJ Hollywood and Luv Bug Starski. He would rap along to the music and get the crowd going, something not every DJ could necessarily do.

But now, Cheba isn’t doing so well. On Thursday (October 5), Simmons shared an Instagram post indicating Eddie Cheba had been hospitalized. AllHipHop.com reached out to the Def Jam co-founder and discovered Cheba had suffered a stroke. But the following day, Cheba’s condition worsened. As Simmons tells us, “Eddie suffered his third stroke. He’s stable but having issues with memory. We are praying for his full recovery.”

He continues, “The original prince of Hip-Hop, Eddie Cheba, suffered a stroke and is in the hospital recovering. We should all pray for this man because we stand on his shoulders. As a hustler or promoter of Hip-Hop culture, getting Eddie Cheba to play your party ensured a huge turnout of people who would not only pay $6.50 to get in but would also drink away the cost of the ballroom rental, which most times was a bar guarantee). There was absolutely no one—except DJ Hollywood—who could sell more tickets and make us more money.

“The only other group who could sell that many tickets, maybe even more, was the great Grandmaster Flash, but his crowd was younger and the ticket prices mostly had to be lower. The bar guarantee was an obstacle because most of the crowd was too young to get in that kind of venue and also, you were very likely to have a shootout at the party. Let’s pray for the great Eddie Cheba.”

Eddie Cheba’s contributions to Hip-Hop culture have been somewhat understated over the years. Even as Hip-Hop celebrates its 50th anniversary, he, DJ Hollywood and Luv Bug Starski are often left out of the conversation. As Chuck D told Wax Poetics in 2020, “Eddie Cheba was as important to Hip-Hop/rap as Ike Turner was to rock and roll. Nowhere does he get his due credit for spreading it from the BX [the Bronx] to [make it more] accessible.”

Needless to say, Simmons understands just how impactful Cheba was and makes it a point to mention it every chance he gets.

“The great Eddie Cheba is in the hospital,” he wrote in his original post. “For all of you reporters, YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS. The absolute facts are as follows: if you couldn’t get DJ Hollywood, you got Cheba. If you couldn’t get Cheba, you got Love Bug Starski (RIP). Again, this is actual facts. If you got all three, the number of tickets would skyrocket and you could also pay the bar guarantee. They were the rap STARS and the biggest money makers and draws.

“As a promoter who worked all the boroughs (except Staten Island), THIS IS THE FACT THE ONLY OTHER DRAW OF THIS MAGNITUDE WAS GRANDMASTER FLASH and he had a younger crowd ALMOST EVERY TIME I BOOKED HIM IT WAS A SHOOT OUT. But he was in their league in terms of tickets sales and celebrity status. If you are writing something else go to the Bronx or Harlem and ask any 65-70 year old. The history is the history misrepresentation of it is criminal. These n###as ain’t even dead and f###ing up the history. RIP Love Bug Starski.”

AllHipHop wishes Eddie Cheba a speedy recovery.

Styles P, DJ Enuff & More Explore Why “Dead Rappers Gets Better Promotion” In New Forum

Brooklyn’s BRIC Media recently hosted its first Town Hall session for the new season: “Dead Rappers Get Better Promotion: The Health Crisis in Hip Hop.”

Held on Thursday (October 5), the panel was moderated by AllHipHop.com writer, Nikki Duncan-Smith. The night jumped off with BRIC (Arts & Media in Brooklyn) President Wes Jackson and New York State Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, who shared he used to be an MC.

Delgado said the power that he saw in Black people to make change inspired him to “pursue a career in Hip-Hop” before he ever considered running for office.

“Let’s be clear, the power we possess and Hip-Hop has long possessed is nonetheless entangled with the perils of oppressive conditions,” Delgado said. “Just because we got it from the mud doesn’t mean the mud is good.”

He added, “The life expectancy for male rappers and Hip-Hop artists is approximately 30 years old and as you celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop the unfortunate reality is that several of our pioneering artists aren’t here to celebrate. The number of rappers who never lived to see much more than 50 years is astonishing. The list is simply too long to go through.”

While gun violence and substance abuse are leading causes of death in rap culture, he asked, “What about all the rappers dying young of heart disease, lung disease, cancer, diabetes, strokes, liver or kidney failure? All these are on the Top 10 causes of death among Black men and Hispanic men, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.”

Delgado, however, remains optimistic, “I believe we have reached the point where the culture has the capacity to turn its own power in opposition to the very structural conditions that gave birth to it in the first place and in my mind, this was always Hip-Hop’s destiny or as Nas would say, ‘It was written.’”

As dynamic as the lieutenant governor was, the panelists exceeded any expectations.

The panel included Dr. Olajide Williams (founder of Hip Hop Public Health, neurologist); Keith Nelson, Jr. (senior editor, Men’s Health); Styles P (rapper, entrepreneur); DJ Enuff (DJ, radio personality); Bob Celestin (entertainment attorney); and Ramik Williams, co-executive director of KAVI (Kings Against Violence Initiative).

Dr. Williams noted a child born in the Upper East Side of Manhattan will live 11 years longer than a child born in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Williams added to this statistic by sharing the stress that Black and Brown people endure can change our DNA in a way that opens us up for life-threatening diseases and illnesses. Additionally, 51 percent of rappers’ deaths have been by homicide.

Styles P was shocked because of the many rappers who lost their lives to COVID-19, heart disease and diabetes, among other ailments. However, so many of the deaths recently, have been as a result of gun violence.

Celestin, who was the lawyer for XXXTENTACION and Pop Smoke, explained he’s personally talked to artists about the bold violence in drill music and even their personal health. The entertainment attorney with more than 25 years of experience, also blew people away by saying the responsibility to provide wellness care, healthy life options and insurance lies on the artist and his or her management teams—not the labels. The goal is to teach artists that they are independent contractors and must handle their business—even while they are young—and possibly encourage their lawyers to get some things in their contracts early.

Styles P also dropped knowledge about healthy eating and the power of parents in changing the health culture of the community. He added that if we are to address the issue of violence, particularly in music, we have to check the people at radio stations and labels.

He said the people who are making some of the lowest vibrational music are young people—it’s older adults who put it on the radio for all to consume.

The free event had more than 400 people in attendance and was streamed live on BRIC TV’s YouTube channel.

Jaden Smith Shows Off His Muscle Gains For All His Haters

Jaden Smith has been famous for most of his life. The son of Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has likely had to face the world judging him since he was a child.

Not surprisingly, Jaden Smith still has to deal with other people’s negative comments directed at him. This week, the 25-year-old entertainer/entrepreneur decided to address the critics of his slim body frame.

Jaden uploaded before-and-after photos of himself on X. He captioned the tweet, “Haters Will Post The One On The Left And Ignore The One On The Right. Like 🤮, Damn Can A Man Have His Phases🤷🏾‍♂️.”

Moviegoers were first introduced to Jaden Smith as an actor in the 2006 biographical drama The Pursuit of Happyness. Following that Will Smith-led motion picture, Jaden appeared in other films like The Karate Kid and After Earth.

Additionally, Jaden Smith starred in television series such as All of Us, The Get Down and Neo Yokio. The Young Artist Award winner also provided voice acting work for Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic animated television special.

On the music side, Jaden has released three studio albums – Syre, Erys and CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3. The latter project was the third installment in a series that includes The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape Vol. 1 and CTV2 mixtapes.

J. Cole Addresses Issues With NBA YoungBoy On Drake’s “For All The Dogs” Album

Just last week, speculation that J. Cole fired subliminal shots at YoungBoy Never Broke Again spread across the internet. Some of Cole’s bars on Lil Yachty’s “The Secret Recipe” single ignited the conversation.

However, J. Cole’s longtime business partner, Ibrahim Hamad, dismissed the rumors that his Dreamville Records co-founder dissed NBA YoungBoy. Hamad posted on X, “Not sure how y’all heard that Cole verse and put that together, impressive 😂.”

Cole has now directly addressed the supposed beef with YoungBoy Never Broke Again on a record. The North Carolina-bred rap star used Drake’s newly-released For All the Dogs album to give his side of the situation.

N##### so thirsty to put me in beef. Dissecting my words and start looking too deep. I look at the tweets and start sucking my teeth. I’m letting it rock ’cause I love the mystique,” rapped J. Cole on the “First Person Shooter” track.

The Grammy Award winner also spit, “I still wanna get me a song with YB. Can’t trust everything that you saw on IG. Just know if I diss you, I made sure you know that I hit you like I’m on your caller ID.”

Earlier this year, NBA YoungBoy blasted J. Cole on “F*ck the Industry Pt. 2.” That song featured the Louisiana native rapping, “J a ho. That n#### played it cold like he was gonna do a feature. So I texted his line, a muscle sign, I swear it’s gonna be nice to meet you.”

Ice Spice To Perform On “SNL” Season 49 Premiere

Ice Spice heads to NBC Studios to serve as the musical guest for Saturday Night Live. The late-night sketch comedy show tapped the New York City-bred rapper for the Season 49 opener.

Ice Spice will hit the Saturday Night Live stage on October 14. Former SNL cast member Pete Davidson returns to the program to serve as the host for that evening’s show.

Over the last year, Spice became a breakout star. She arrived on the music scene with “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in August 2022. The success of that track led to more opportunities for the Bronx native.

This year saw Ice Spice collaborate with Hip-Hop superstar Nicki Minaj twice. Both “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World” peaked in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Ice Spice also teamed up with 12-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift for a song titled “Karma.” At the top of 2023, Spice scored a Top 10 hit as a feature on “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” by British singer PinkPantheress.

Television viewers got to see Ice Spice perform at the 2023 BET Awards in June. The 23-year-old Like..? EP creator ran through a medley of “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “Princess Diana,” and “In Ha Mood.”

Last season of Saturday Night Live included musical performances by Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, Jack Harlow, Black Star, SZA, Lizzo, Lil Baby and Lil Yachty. According to reports, NBC canceled an episode featuring Lil Uzi Vert due to the Hollywood writer’s strike.

Drake Drops “For All The Dogs” Album Featuring J. Cole, SZA, Sexyy Red, 21 Savage & More

After delaying the release of his latest studio LP, Drake finally let loose For All The Dogs this morning (October 6). The 23-track project contains several high-profile guest features.

Drake and J. Cole reunited on the “First Person Shooter” track. SZA shows up on two songs. The R&B singer appears on the previously released “Slime You Out” as well as “Rich Baby Daddy.”

In addition, “Rich Baby Daddy” features rising rap sensation Sexyy Red. Drake also linked up with his Her Loss album collaborator 21 Savage again for “Calling for You.”

For All The Dogs also features Teezo Touchdown, Yeat, PartyNextDoor, Chief Keef, Bad Bunny, and Lil Yachty. Multiple producers provided beats for the project, including Noah “40” Shebib, Boi-1da, Oz and Bnyx.

Drake’s eighth studio album arrived eleven months after Her Loss with 21 Savage debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The OVO Sound captain’s last solo effort, Honestly, Nevermind, came out in June 2022.

If For All The Dogs makes it to No. 1, Drake will have thirteen chart-toppers in his catalog. That total would move the Toronto representative one behind Jay-Z (14) for most No. 1 albums by a Hip-Hop recording artist.

Drake continues to rise up the all-time Billboard Hot 100 list as well. When “Slime You Out” debuted in the chart’s top spot, the former Degrassi: The Next Generation actor moved into a 6th place tie with The Supremes and Madonna.

Berner Reveals Why Dr. Dre Passed On Making “The Chronic” Weed Strain

Dr. Dre passed on the opportunity to make weed-loving Hip-Hop head’s dreams come true after turning down the chance to make a strain of cannabis called “The Chronic,” according to Berner.

The rapper/weed entrepreneur revealed he pitched “The Chronic” weed to the legendary producer several years ago. Berner deemed the strain “by far the best-looking weed we’ve ever produced.” However, Dr. Dre declined the offer, opting to wait until weed is federally legal before entering the cannabis industry.

“Dre sat down with me and I showed him a jar of what we wanted to call ‘The Chronic,’” Berner explained during a recent appearance on The Bootleg Kev Podcast.

The Cookies co-founder claimed the “The Chronic” was so “beautiful” it looked unreal. “It was incredible,” he said before adding, “it was orange, purple, funky, stanky. It looked like it was out of a f###### movie, how good this weed looked.”

Nonetheless, Dr. Dre was unmoved. “I showed him ‘The Chronic’ and he was just like, ‘yeah, I f### with it,’” Berner added. “We’ll think about it, but like I don’t know if I really want to put myself in the industry.’”

Berner continued, “He told me, ‘I got money money and I don’t really want to play with that until, y’know, maybe it’s federally legal.’”

Ultimately, Berner revealed Dr. Dre turned him down stating, “I just don’t want to risk it.” Check out the clip below and watch the podcast at the end of the page.

According to ZogBlog, a publication by former Forbes journalist Zack O’Malley Greenburg, in 2020, Berner ranked at No. 4 among Hip-Hop billionaires with a net worth of $410 million. Dr. Dre placed at No. 5 with $400 million.

Jason Derulo Denies Sexual Harassment Claims, “Deeply Offended” Over Allegations

Jason Derulo has responded after a 25-year-old singer filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him earlier this week.

In the complaint, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday (October 5), Emaza Gibson claimed the singer ended their working relationship after she denied his sexual advances. She alleges that Jason Derulo expected her to have sex with him after she signed a joint deal with his Future History imprint and Atlantic Records in 2021.

Gibson claims she rejected Derulo’s sexual advances and believes her refusal to have sex with him led to her being dropped from his label, per NBC News.

On Thursday night (October 5), Jason Derulo issued a statement via social media denying Gibson’s claims.

“I wouldn’t normally comment but these claims are completely false and hurtful,” Derulo began the written and recorded statement.

He continued: “I stand against all forms of harassment and I remain supportive of anybody following their dreams. I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you deeply offended, by these defamatory claims. God bless.”

In the lawsuit, Gibson alleged Derulo tried to get her to go out for drinks with him before bringing alcohol and drugs to studio sessions, leaving her feeling pressured to drink.

She also accused him of inviting her to participate in a sex ritual in what her lawsuit deemed an “explicit demand for sex-in-exchange-for-success.”

Gibson told NBC News she has “anxiety” and is “traumatized,” claiming she “dealt with inhumane work situations.”

She added, “I’m just trying to fight for what’s right because what was done to me was not OK. And I wouldn’t want anybody else to go through what I went through. They wasted my time. They promised me things.”

Drake’s “Virginia Beach” Album Opener Sparks Pusha T Diss Track Speculation

The opening track on For All The Dogs has Drake fans speculating that the OVO honcho is resurrecting his feud with Pusha T.

The album has been hit with several delays, with Drake explaining that he could either finish the tour or the project but not both. One would have to be postponed and he didn’t want to disappoint ticket holders. Earlier this week, during an unexpected appearance at Lil Yachty’s Toronto show, Drizzy announced he just finished the album. Fans expected the album to arrive at midnight on Friday (October 6), however, Drake needed a few more hours.

Nonetheless, he gave fans something to muse over while awaiting the project, sharing the surprise drop “8AM In Charlotte” in the early hours of Thursday morning (October 4.) Then, on Thursday evening, the “Rich Flex” hitmaker took to social media with the For All The Dogs tracklist. He also confirmed the album would be released at 6 A.M. EST.

“FOR ALL THE DOGS OCTOBER 6 6AM,” Drake wrote before adding, “(Sorry to all my streamers).”

The tracklist, which also features artwork from the Hip-Hop superstar’s five-year-old son Adonis, reveals a whopping 23 songs. Any guest appearances have been withheld, although Drake has confirmed Nicki Minaj, Bad Bunny and Lil Yachty are all on the album.

The listing includes lead singles “Slime You Out” featuring SZA and “8AM In Charlotte,” but it was the opening track that sent the rumor mill into overdrive.

Drake Fans React To “Virginia Beach”

For All The Dogs begins with the track “Virginia Beach,” which just so happens to be the hometown of Drake’s nemesis Pusha T.

“First track on Drake’s album is Virginia Beach,” one social media user wrote. “Now when he gets the response he’s looking for I don’t wanna see yall up here complaining.”

YNW Melly Lawyers Seek To Limit Lead Detective’s Testimony In Murder Retrial

YNW Melly’s lawyers filed two motions to exclude some of Detective Mark Moretti’s testimony from the rapper’s upcoming retrial on Thursday (October 5). According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, the defense urged a judge to not let Detective Moretti present information from an Apple health pedometer, CellHawk call data record mapping and Google Maps.

“The proposed expert testimony of Detective Moretti’s exhibits and reports should be excluded under Florida Rules of Evidence 90.702 and 90.403 because the methodology in the reports and/or testimony is unreliable, irrelevant and its probative value is substantially outweighed by the danger of unfair prejudice,” the lawyers argued.

Defense attorneys filed the motions ahead of their client’s next court date, which is scheduled for Friday (October 6). YNW Melly’s legal team previously asked Judge John Murphy to recuse the Broward County State Attorney’s Office from the 24-year-old artist’s double murder case.

The defense claimed prosecutors withheld evidence to protect Detective Moretti as a witness in YNW Melly’s first trial. Jury selection for the retrial is set to begin on October 9.

Earlier this week, YNW Melly was charged with witness tampering. His lawyers said prosecutors were trying to distract the public after facing allegations of prosecutorial misconduct.

YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, has remained in jail since his 2019 arrest. He is accused of killing his friends YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser in 2018.

Cam’ron Says He Sold Angel Dust To Method Man Too Following Big L Reveal

Cam’ron said Big L wasn’t the only rapper providing angel dust to Method Man back in the day. The Dipset artist claimed he also sold drugs to the Wu-Tang Clan member in reaction to an anecdote from the Drink Champs podcast.

“Yo @methodmanofficial I served u a couple times,” Cam’ron wrote on Instagram. “(Pause) I just wasn’t famous yet. listen to slide 2. #DangerZoneAlumni.”

Cam’ron included a relevant snippet from his song “Toast to Me” in the Instagram post. The track appeared on his 2019 album Purple Haze 2.

“I’m from a dust block where some of Wu-Tang used to come and place they orders at,” he rapped on the song.

Cam’ron reiterated his involvement after Method Man recalled getting angel dust from Big L on an episode of Drink Champs. Tical unexpectedly revealed the D.I.T.C. rapper used to sell him drugs when asked to choose between Big L and Biggie Smalls.

“Big L used to sell me my wet,” Method Man told hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN. “Big L used to sell me dust, n#### … I used to get that s### from Big L uptown.”

Method Man’s comments left N.O.R.E. stunned.

Jason Derulo Accused Of Dropping Singer From Label After She Refused His Sexual Advances

A 25-year-old singer filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Jason Derulo on Thursday (October 5). Emaza Gibson claimed Jason Derulo expected her to have sex with him after she signed a joint deal with his Future History imprint and Atlantic Records in 2021.

Gibson said she repeatedly rejected Derulo’s sexual advances while signed to him, per NBC News. She believed her refusal to have sex with him resulted in her getting dropped from his label in 2022.

According to the lawsuit, Derulo often tried to get Gibson to go out for drinks despite her making it clear she wanted to keep things professional. Derulo allegedly started bringing alcohol and drugs to studio sessions, which left Gibson feeling pressured to drink.

Gibson accused Derulo of asking her to participate in a sex ritual, which her lawsuit deemed an “explicit demand for sex-in-exchange-for-success.” Gibson said she feared for her safety due to Derulo’s aggressive behavior.

“His threats of physical harm and unconscionable sexual advances toward this young woman who is just trying to break into the industry were outrageous and illegal,” Gibson’s lawyer Ron Zambrano told NBC News.

Gibson sued Derulo for sexual harassment, retaliation and breach of contract, among other complaints. Derulo’s then-manager Frank Harris was also named a defendant in the lawsuit.

“I’m at this point in my life right now, it’s very heartbreaking,” Gibson told NBC News. “I have anxiety; I’m traumatized. I’ve dealt with inhumane work situations … I’m at this point where I’m back to zero and I have nothing.”

She added, “I’m just trying to fight for what’s right because what was done to me was not OK. And I wouldn’t want anybody else to go through what I went through. They wasted my time. They promised me things.”

Gibson sought damages for emotional distress, unpaid wages and more. Derulo has not publicly commented on Gibson’s allegations.

Is Drake Dissing Kanye West On “8AM in Charlotte”? Probably.

While most of us have been going about our daily lives, it seems Drake is still harboring some strong emotions when it comes to Kanye West. LOL! The two artists, who have been locked in a mostly one-sided public feud for several years now, are once again in the spotlight thank s to Drake’s latest single, “8AM in Charlotte.”

Give it a listen and read on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsHr3WxoNcQ

The song hit Thursday morning and people immediately began to speculate there was a diss aimed at Kanye West. Social media platforms were abuzz! Fans, haters, lovers, casuals and more started to dissect the lyrics, particularly focusing on lines like: “Handle beef so quiet you think that I’m letting it slide/ Next thing you know we tip-toeing past enemy lines/ Diss me so long ago we making your memories fly/ Conspiracy theories start flowing around like the Kennedy guy/ I’ll probably hold a grudge against you guys ’til I’m 75.”

He really can hold a grudge!

READ ALSO: Kanye West Slams Nas, Pusha T And Teyana Taylor In Leaked 2018 Recording

In the song, Drake never directly mentions Kanye West, but there are subtle references. This shade seems to be part of the ongoing feud between the two, which have played out on “No Stylist” and “Sicko Mode.” I had to listen to “Sicko Mode” again to get it.

Her are some more of the bars from “8AM”: “Aye, n##as lying for a living, I couldn’t relate/ We all gotta lay in the bed we make, but that couldn’t be Drake/ You forced a lot of fake love when real ones stood in your face / That’s why you got deserted by your n##as like pudding and cake/ I got you on camera bowing down but the footage is safe/ Thank God, another USB to put in the safe.”

Kanye West is pretty much oblivious to all of this, I believe. He has maintained a low profile this year You know, as much of a “low profile” as the media will allow. Kanye recently stated that he had new music on the way. We’ll see.

By the way, there has to be a Pusha-T diss in there some where. Drizzy’s son is literally wearing a shirt that says “hate survivor.”

By the way, read out interview with Suge Knight. 😉

Social Media Drags Drake’s New Hairstyle In ‘8AM In Charlotte’ Video: “Dude Getting Corny Now”

Social media apparently isn’t feeling Drake’s new hairstyle in his “8AM In Charlotte” video. While dancing with his son, Adonis, he’s sporting colorful clips and barrettes in his hair. While the accessories are carefully coordinated with his sweater, people can’t resist making a mockery of his coif.

“Drake you my boy,” one person tweeted, but please stop doing that b####### to you hair you look corny lol.” Yet another person called him corny, adding, “Dude getting corny now, first nail polish now them wack a## clips in his hair, drake fell off years ago.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F5b3dXoKkE

Another X user posed the question, “If only drake acted how he rap. How you talkin bout killing n##gas with colorful clips in your hair.”

Some people are afraid Drake might spark a trend.

“The only ones who can pull off Drake’s new look is bad bunny Dominicans,” one person remarked. “I don’t want to see any of you negroes with them hair clips. Jimmy’s vitamin deficient bob was enough!!”

One of the wildest comments mentioned his son, Adonis.

“Drake the only rapper who’s pen is good enough to distract from the fact that he’s rapping with colorful rollers in his hair and a little white boy dancing next to him off beat,” the person tweeted.

Apart from his wild hair, people seem to be loving the new song, reveling in the artist’s lyrical profundity.

Mickey Factz, an MC known for his mastery of rhyme and the founder of the Pendulum Ink Academy, marveled at the skillset, tweeting, “Pointless to tell yall how good the Charlotte in 8 Am record is by Drake. Yall just gon say he had a writer or the whole album dont sound like that or its not that good.”

Morgan State Cancels Homecoming After Mass Shooting Sends Five People To The Hospital

Morgan State University has canceled the 2023 Homecoming festivities in the wake of the mass shooting earlier this week. It marks the first HBCU in history (outside of COVID-19 restrictions) to take such measures.

The news comes just one day after suspect(s) shot five people—four of them students—during the “let out” of this year’s coronation on Tuesday (October 3). The gunfire broke out at two separate locations: Thurgood Marshall Hall, a dormitory on campus, and the Murphy Fine Arts Center, where the event took place.

Shortly after the shots rang out, the university issued a shelter-in-place order to ensure everyone’s safety. The president of Morgan, Dr. David K. Wilson, delivered a message via social media on Wednesday (October 4), detailing the steps the school has made.

“It is with great consternation that I deliver this message to our university community following the most incredible and unfortunate of events that occurred on our campus last evening,” he said, adding it was an “unbelievable act of violence.”

He continued, “I can assure you that in response to last evening ‘s events, we are aggressively increasing security measures on campus, further amplifying additional security measures that have been implemented in recent years. With regard to homecoming, regrettably for the very first time in Morgan’s history, all activities planned around homecoming will be either canceled or postponed until the perpetrator or perpetrators of this atrocity have been found and brought to justice.”

The Washington Post reported that Tuesday’s incident was the third consecutive year in which gunshots disrupted homecoming week at Morgan State University.

The administrator said that the decision was not singular but made in concert with key stakeholders within our university community, including student leaders.

“We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support from our larger community, literally all over the world, expressing their concern and their support for this institution during this trying time,” Wilson concluded, punctuating his remarks with a request to keep the identities of the young adults injured during the campus shooting private.

One act of solidarity was expressed by the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on Delaware State University’s campus.

The president posted a note, with the caption, “The ladies of the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated are standing with @morganstateu and @alphagamma_dst. We would also like to extend Congratulations to the 79th Miss Morgan State University Soror Jade Berryman and to the 36th Mr. Morgan State University Mr. Tyler Hairston. We are praying for the safety of your University.”

Russell Simmons Reveals Hip-Hop Pioneer Eddie Cheeba Has Been Hospitalized

Russell Simmons is calling for the Hip-Hop community to send prayers to one of the culture’s earliest pioneers Eddie Cheeba. AllHipHop.com previously introduced a new generation to the Harlem DJ on the brink of Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary.

Two months later, Cheeba is in need of positive energy. As Simmons, Def Jam Recordings’ co-founder and Cheeba’s former manager, celebrated his 66th birthday on Wednesday (October 4), he took to Instagram to solicit prayers, writing a lengthy caption dedicated to his friend’s speedy recovery.

“PRAYERS UP The great Eddie Cheeba is in the hospital,” he wrote. He then gave his own history lesson on why Cheeba should be honored. First, he talked about the extraordinary star power that Cheeba, DJ Hollywood and Love Bug Starski had, adding a tip about club promotion in the early days, “If you got all 3 the number of tickets would skyrocket and you could also pay the bar guarantee.”

“They were the rap STARS,” Simmons declared. “And the biggest money makers and draws. As a promoter who worked all the boroughs (except Staten Island), THIS IS THE FACT. THE ONLY OTHER DRAW OF THIS MAGNITUDE WAS GRANDMASTER FLASH AND He had a younger crowd ALMOST EVER-TIME I BOOKED HIM… IT WAS SHOOT OUT.”

He challenged the younger press to go to “The Bronx of Harlem” to “ask any 65-70 year old” about their impact. He added, “The history is the history. Misrepresentation of it is criminal.”

Did Sexyy Red Do It Or Not?

Sexyy Red is taking over the planet—and that is scary! The raunchy rapper has caused a proverbial tidal wave of controversy, but it has nothing to do with lyrics. The chatter about Sexyy Red assaults our senses for an unexpected reason. I saw it coming last night and it came crashing down this morning.

The artist behind the hit track “Pound Town” turned into a trending topic on Twitter, the social media platform currently known as X, on the fateful night of Wednesday (October 4.) The reason? A private video of an explicit nature had surfaced on her Instagram Stories.

This immediately caused a rumor that she’d unintentionally shared it herself. The video was promptly “removed” but has since traveled all over the internet for everybody to see what is pink and what is brown. Yuck. This is basically a sign that the world is ending because there are so many important things in the world. But, here I am typing about this.

As previously reported, Sexyy Red released a statement suggesting that her account had been compromised. She said, “I’m deeply saddened. Anyone who knows me can vouch for the fact that I wouldn’t engage in such foolishness”

We saw Sexyy Red on the carpet at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, by the way. People were flirting with her on the carpet, and she had to run away from them. She was like “I can’t do that on the carpet!” Not those exact words, of course. But she’s the life of the party! At the last BET Awards, she was twerking up a storm! She got all the attention. Here is the pic:

That is her running away from said people on the carpet.

What are your thoughts on Sexyy Red as a force in rap?
