“Creative disagreements? Nah. There were people we thought could have helped us turn the show back to what it was at Vice, where it felt fresh and way more edgy — genuinely different and good,” explained The Kid Mero.
He continued, “And Showtime was not trying to do that. That was the beginning of the end. It was giving me mad anxiety, but I’m a first-generation immigrant kid, like, you never quit your job before you have a new one. But I think Desus was like, ‘F### it.’ And that was the end of the podcast, too.”
Before beginning a run on Showtime in 2019, Desus & Mero aired on Viceland for two seasons. The pair also worked together on the Desus vs. Mero web series, the Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne television show, and the Bodega Boys podcast.
When asked if he could see himself and Desus Nice being “cool” again in the future, The Kid Mero responded, “I don’t know, man. I feel like — maybe? Never say never. Right now I think we’re on different trajectories as far as what we wanna do.”

Shortly after releasing “Thottie,” Albee Al shared a video to celebrate the song’s success while thanking his loyal followers and his new fans for their support.
“I’m overwhelmed right now,” he said. “I don’t even know how to feel, I don’t even know if this s### real, this s### crazy. Anything is possible, you just gotta stay on your s###. You gotta want this s### more than anybody. Your grind can’t sleep.”
Albee Al showed love to his supporters and vowed to continue making music. “This s### ain’t gon’ never stop I promise you,” he added.
Despite his release from prison, Albee Al could end up back behind bars in a few months. The plea deal he accepted comes with a mandatory minimum of 18 months in prison. As reported by The Daily Voice, the judge gave no indication as to whether he will receive time served at his October sentencing.
Chuck D has sold a significant portion of his back catalog to his longtime publisher for an undisclosed fee.
The deal with Reach Music was confirmed on Tuesday (Sept. 13), as reported by Variety. It includes Chuck D’s full songwriting share of royalties and half of his “copyright interest” as the publisher. He will still retain half of the interest in his publishing royalties.
While the sale doesn’t include the Hip-Hop legend’s entire catalog, it does cover over 300 songs. Included are some of Public Enemy’s most loved classics. “Fight the Power,” “Bring the Noise,” “Welcome to the Terrordome,” “Shut ‘Em Down,” and “He Got Game,” are all encompassed in the sale.
The acquisition also covers the songs Chuck D wrote for Public Enemy during the 25 years from 1987 through 2012. Several classic albums are included, beginning with their 1987 debut “Yo! Bum Rush the Show.” Additionally, “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back,” “Fear of a Black Planet,” and “Apocalypse 91…The Enemy Strikes Black,” are all incorporated in the Reach Music deal.
Chuck D Says The Timing Was Right
Chuck D explained Reach administered his copyright ownership interests for over two decades. “Doing this deal was the right timing for a forward and logical evolution of our business together in an ever-changing industry. Reach has always been ahead of the curve on establishing respect for the hip-hop genre songwriting and publishing-wise,” he told Variety. “And they will continue taking care of my works.”
Reach founder-president Mike Closter added: “I’m so grateful to Chuck for our business together as his music publisher throughout these many decades. The team at Reach will continue working hard to protect these works while also introducing them to new generations to come.”
Meanwhile, As reported by AllHipHop.com, Public Enemy’s classic 1989 single “Fight The Power” is the inspiration behind a new PBS docuseries. Fight The Power: How Hip Hop Changed The World will air in four parts beginning in January 2023.

Trippie Redd believes artists should have more protection and that their record labels should be footing the bill to prevent further tragedies following the senseless killing of PnB Rock on Monday (Sept. 12).
The Ohio native shared his grief at the loss of his “brother” and said rappers need round-the-clock security, paid for by their labels.
“I had to reschedule my whole day yesterday I was at a true loss for words,” Trippie Redd wrote the day after PnB Rock’s murder. “I keep losing my friends to gun violence I want all my friends to start having a guard or 2 it honestly should be on the label to get u protection… that’s one thing I used to tell xxx is let’s stop riding around in the i8 just me and u while ur paid security sleep at the house we in the club just us.”
“He wasn’t a selfish person either,” Trippie explained. He always praised me and my friends that aren’t famous working with n##### flying to us and we always bonded over the fact that we both got to make hits with xxx during his journey here I just want everyone to be safe and think about ur life and family before u make [decisions.]”

PnB Rock was shot during a robbery while having lunch with his girlfriend at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles. He was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away later that afternoon. He was 30 years old.

As a tech enthusiast and artist, Wong Kwan Chi has a different opinion. Kwan Chi sees the recent developments in artificial intelligence as an opportunity for creatives to explore new territory. Even though these tools can simplify most of the work an artist does in their creative process, Kwan Chi admits there are some drawbacks to AI-generated art. The lack of soulfulness and depth that art created by a human has is one major differentiator between AI-generated art and what an artist creates. Funko has announced Tha Dogg House, a new collaboration with Snoop Dogg.
The company partnered with the famed MC to create a Snoop Dogg-themed store in Inglewood, California. Tha Dogg House will feature a mural of the Hip Hop legend as well as life-sized Funko Pop! figures.

Tekashi 6ix9ine callously mocked the death of PnB Rock, provoking a response from Wack 100.
6ix9ine joked about PnB Rock dying over a waffle in an Instagram Stories post. Wack 100 checked the controversial rapper in a comment on Instagram.
“[You’re] wrong on this one,” he wrote to 6ix9ine. “He died not acknowledging his surroundings. Wearing Jewelry in a area in which what he had on was more than what the local homes cost. Allowing a females suggestions [to] dictate the right decisions. Moving without security.”
Wack 100 continued, “A few of these things I’ve spoken to you about. Let this situation be a eye opener to you. Life is about decisions & the wrong one can kill ya life span. Blessings to the family but let this be a example of what not to do.”
6ix9ine’s PnB Rock trolling elicited outrage on social media. The two rappers had past beef, but 6ix9ine’s crass post crossed the line in the eyes of many online observers.
PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Allen, was shot and killed at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles on Monday (September 12). The shooting occurred shortly after his girlfriend tagged his location in an Instagram post.

Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles issued a statement following PnB Rock’s death on Monday. The restaurant said the safety of employees and patrons was its “utmost priority.”
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Rakim Hasheem Allen, (also known as PnB Rock), an incredible artist in Los Angeles and everywhere,” the statement read. “His passing represents an enormous loss to each and every one of us.”
It continued, “Our most heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers go to the Allen family at this difficult time. The safety of our employees and guests are our utmost priority. We have and will continue to keep our place of business as safe as possible.”
PnB Rock was dining with his girlfriend at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, where he was shot during a robbery. His girlfriend posted a photo of their food and location on Instagram.
A graphic video of the shooting’s aftermath surfaced on social media. PnB Rock was transported to a local hospital, but he was pronounced dead at the facility. He was 30.
Cardi B surprised students at I.S. 232 in the Bronx by visiting her old middle school on Tuesday (September 13).
According to multiplereports, Cardi B announced she’s donating $100,000 to the school. She stopped by her former stomping grounds as part of a tour with the nonprofit Community Capacity Development.
“I hope today is not a tearjerker day for me,” she said in a clip on her Instagram Stories.
NBC New York shared footage of Cardi B’s arrival at the school. I.S. 232 students loudly cheered when she appeared.
Cardi B spoke to the students about her school days and offered life advice. She encouraged the kids to be mindful of their futures.

Cardi B previously made stops in Brooklyn and Queens with Community Capacity Development. The organization aims to “uproot the systemic challenges facing marginalized communities of color,” per its website.

Twan Da God is in his producer bag and has a LOT to celebrate. Twan Da God, real name Antwan Newkirk, has worked and collaborated with some of the biggest heavy-hitters in the rap game, including NBA Youngboy, Rylo Rodriquez, Calboy, and JayDaYoungan… and he shows no signs of slowing down.
Originally born in a small town in North Carolina called Elizabethtown before relocating to Fayetteville when he was six-years-old, Twan Da God relocated to Atlanta in 2016 — a place he now calls home. It was in the sixth grade when he began experimenting with beats and rapping, passing out mixtapes to his peers in high school and performing local shows.
In describing himself, Twan Da God states, I’ve been producing mostly since 2016, going for my goals. I’m a producer who has a wide range from R&B to hip-hop to pop. I’m heavily influenced by the Atlanta culture.”
The name Twan Da God comes from Antwan’s desire to reach GOAT status, and he’s well on his way with the announcement of his new signing to Jay Z’s Roc Nation agency.
AllHipHop spoke with Twan Da God to discuss his love for music, how he learned to produce, his first big placement, how he produced for NBA Youngboy and Rylo Rodriguez, signing to Roc Nation, working with Calboy as part of 6Lement, goals, and more!
AllHipHop: When did you fall in love with music?
Twan Da God: I fell in love with music at a young age. I was part of a little rap group when I was growing up. We were doing shows. When I was in high school, I started traveling with my group. We opened up at proms. Did a couple of shows in New York, Tennessee.
But my main focus when I started taking on producing, I started pushing the producing more because I felt it was quicker to get me in the door. And being an artist takes a lot of money producing. Producing, you ain’t really gotta pay for stuff.
AllHipHop: How did you learn how to produce?
Twan Da God: I just watched my homeboy when I was growing up. I was shadowing him and picked it up that way. It started becoming a natural ability. I learned pretty easy and pretty fast just by watching. Who influenced my music were my favorite producers: Timbaland, Pharell, Ryan Leslie, Metro Boomin, the list goes on. It came real easy, I fell in love with it and started pushing forward.
AllHipHop: Do you remember your first big placement?
Twan Da God: It wasn’t that big, but it was big to me. Well, it was kind of big. It was this record I did with Derez De’Shon, it was called “VVS.” It had Money Man on it, Verse Simmonds. It was a dope record.
AllHipHop: Talk about producing “Goals” for NBA Youngboy, that’s huge.
Twan Da God: I don’t know if you know, I’m also part of a group now. It’s not just me. We go by 6Lement. My partner Parker, we’re in a group together. He’s with APG. He has the relationship with Cheese, NBA Youngboy’s engineer.
Actually, we all got a relationship now. We just had a lunch meeting when I was LA. He’s been rocking with us and asked for beats for him. He been rocking with it, he’s the one that jumped it off.
AllHipHop: Just like that?
Twan Da God: Yeah, it was crazy. Well our first record we did was called “Young Stunna.” It was on From The Bayou, the one that he got with Birdman. That was our first placement with Youngboy.
AllHipHop: I found out about 6Lement through Calboy, he shouted you out on my show Shirley’s Temple.
Twan Da God: Me and Calboy, we got some stuff about to come out with 6Lement. We recorded two projects together. All produced by us, the whole thing. We really went in. We did post-production on Black Heart and went crazy on it. It’s sounding real dope.
AllHipHop: How did you guys tap in?
Twan Da God: So I own a studio in Atlanta called Plugged In Studios. In my studio, you heard of Off The Porch?
AllHipHop: That sounds super familiar. Is that the Dirty Glove Bastard?
Twan Da God: Yeah, so they do that in my studio. In the warehouse in my studio. Calboy came for an interview and we had linked with one of his managers. He had booked the studio session, then he heard us cooking up in the next room. He’s like, “man, I gotta bring Cal. Y’all boys dope!”
The next day, he set up a session with Calboy and the first day we locked in, we knocked out 3 records. That just led on to more and more records. [laughs]
AllHipHop: You also did “Murder” with Rylo in Nardo Wick. How’d that come about?
Twan Da God: Me and Rylo been rocking for a long time. I was engineering him, he came in the studio one day and I played a beat. I said, “Bro, you gotta hop on this beat. This s### gonna be a hit.” I guess he listened and jumped on it. Next thing I know, he played it for me. Originally, he was trying to get 21 Savage on it, but then he came back with Nardo Wick on it. I’m like oh snap! That’s hard.
AllHipHop: Are you transitioning into an recording artist yourself?
Twan Da God: Right now, I lean more into songwriter than recording artist, so I be writing and helping other artists write. Really producing more: telling them to say, do it like this type thing. I mainly build relationships with artists where they feel comfortable with me to take my advice. That’s how I been rocking, I try to lock in with all the artists I know and create a relationship. OMB Peezy, that’s another one that I’m real close with. We lock in a lot, I got a couple of records with him. StreetsMadeMe.
AllHipHop: How does it feel to sign to Roc Nation as a producer? Congratulations.
Twan Da God: Thank you. Everything’s been going great. They been throwing me plays. We’ve really been working on it since last year. We been talking back and forth. My management, Donovan Butler, he’s the one who connected the whole thing and had them looking at me.
It took a while to lock everything in, but I kept working. They really signed me based off talent, they wasn’t really looking at the numbers. They’d listen to the production we was bringing. My manager would meet up with them, play new records and new beats. They was really feeling it. We done locked in a couple of sessions with other artists that’s with Roc Nation, and we been making a lot of dope music together. It’s going to be a beautiful relationship.
AllHipHop: Now what? What’s the game plan?
Twan Da God: I’ve mainly been working with songwriters and other producers, cooking up. Eric Bellinger, we locked in. We got some dope stuff we did together. He came to my studio in Atlanta, then I went to his studio in LA. We made a bunch of dope records. I really don’t know what’s the next one coming out, because we got a lot of placements.
We got one with SleazyWorld Go, another buzzing artist in Atlanta called Anti Da Menace. We be working with Lil Darius a lot, he’s another artist that just signed to a label. We got hella records with Lil Darius. We been locked in with Ryan Trey, we’ve done a lot of records with him.
Who else? You heard of Baby Jungle? We did the majority of his music too. We really locked in with the next wave that’s coming up right now, but we also got a lot of OGs in that game that we’ve been working with too.
AllHipHop: What is special about your beats?
Twan Da God: We’re bringing it back to real producing. We’re also being involved with the making of the song, so we’re controlling the direction. We’re just not putting out anything. We’re really here for the creativity and every detail of it.
AllHipHop: 3 things you need in the studio at all times?
Twan Da God: Some Hennessy or Tequila, maybe a little Don Julio. I need my water, and I like for a good smelling candle to be in the studio.
AllHipHop: Any goals for yourself?
Twan Da God: Yes, I got a lot of goals. Definitely want to get to the Grammys, trying to win one of them. I just want my team as a whole to be stamped in the music industry. Everybody is going to be recognized. I really want us to be the next big thing that everybody’s talking about. Well I feel like we are anyway, because we’re working towards it. It’s a lot of big things going on in the background, so we’re working hard.
We’re building the brand. It’s not just the production team. Eventually it’s going to be a label, so we’re working on that and building it up. Already got people wanting to intern for us. We just building it up.
AllHipHop: Why the name 6Lement?
Twan Da God: Carbon is the sixth element on the periodic table, which is essential for life. We feel like we’re essential to the music industry, that’s how we came up with that. It’s just some nerdy stuff. [laughs]
AllHipHop: What are you most excited for next?
Twan Da God: I’m really excited about this Calboy project. He’s a great guy, he got great energy. The music we did together, we got so many big features on it. Like Jackboy. Fredo Bang, Joey Badass, T-Pain. It’s going to be a real dope project, and I’m glad it’s gonna get the push it deserves.
AllHipHop: Anything else you want to let us know?
Twan Da God: Just be on the lookout for 6Lement, we all coming hard. Twan Da God, Parker, Donovan Butler, we all coming hard.
Moneybagg Yo might just have a baby on the way. As you know, he just broke it off with his presumed ex Ari Fletcher. But not so fast. The rumor world pretty much assumed that it was a break baby, but that may not be the case. People have already linked Ari with Portuguese soccer player Renato Sanches and even Meek Mill. Kimmel lay on the floor acting like he was unconscious as she accepted her award. He thought he was being funny, but many people online thought he was a whole clown.
Apparently, Jimmy Kimmel was tasked to present the award for outstanding writing for a comedy series with Will Arnett. Arnett kinda dragged Kimmel on the stage with the joke being that the late-night host “got into the skinny margaritas” at the bar in remorse of losing earlier in the evening– so he was acting like he was passed out drunk.
But he stayed there … way too long … as the Black woman accepted her trophy and gave a two-minute long speech. Brunson tried to make a joke, saying “Jimmy, wake up. I won!”

After news about PnB Rock’s death hit the internet, the rainbow-haired Brooklyn native took to his social media to joke about the Philadelphia chart-topper’s death.

Post Malone is the latest act to have an album chart on the Billboard 200 at least 300 times. This week, Malone’s Stoney scored its 300th entry on the tally by landing at the #123 position.
Back in 2016, Stoney opened at #6 on the Billboard 200 with 58,000 first-week units. Post Malone’s debut studio LP peaked at #4 in October 2017. The RIAA certified Stoney as 5x-Platinum in April 2021.
The Republic recording artist earned an RIAA Diamond Award (10 million units) for the Stoney single “Congratulations” featuring Quavo. “White Iverson” – which also lives on Stoney – has reached 8x-Platinum status.
Stoney‘s entry into Billboard‘s 300-week club comes as Post Malone also found Top 10 success on the most recent Hot 100 chart. His “I Like You (A Happier Song)” single featuring Doja Cat currently sits at #6.
Post Malone could pull off a second 300-week reign in the future. His chart-topping 2018 album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, has remained on the Billboard 200 chart for 228 weeks so far. 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding presently sits at 157 weeks.
One of the biggest moments of “television’s biggest night” involved comedian/actress Quinta Brunson. The Abbott Elementary creator won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
However, some viewers took issue with presenter Jimmy Kimmel’s behavior that night. When Quinta Brunson went to receive her Emmy trophy, Kimmel laid down on the stage as Brunson gave her acceptance speech.
“Jimmy, wake up. I won,” said Quinta Brunson as she accepted her award. The 32-year-old Philadelphia native went on to thank her Abbott Elementary colleagues, her family, and others for their support.
Later in the evening, media members asked Quinta Brunson about Jimmy Kimmel’s on-stage antics. She did not seem to be too bothered by the late-night show host’s laying besides her as she won her first Emmy Award.
“The bit didn’t bother me that much. I don’t know what the internet thinks,” said Bunson. “Honestly, Jimmy gave me my first big late-night spot and was one of the first people to see Abbott. And he Instagram-messaged me that he saw this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on ABC, the same network that broadcasts Abbott Elementary. Brunson also joked, “Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face.”
Abbott Elementary also picked up an additional Emmy win. Hollywood veteran Sheryl Lee Ralph (Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, Moesha) took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Sheryl Lee Ralph previously earned a Tony Award nomination for her work in the Dreamgirls musical.
Drake goes into the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards with the most nominations of any act. The OVO Sound leader earned 14 nods this year.
BET nominated Drake for Best Live Performer, Lyricist Of The Year, Hip Hop Artist Of The Year, Hustler Of The Year, and Hip Hop Album Of The Year (Certified Lover Boy). He is also up multiple times for Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse, Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop Video, and Song Of The Year.
Kanye Westfollowed Drake with10nominations including Best Live Performer, Hip Hop Artist Of The Year, Producer Of The Year, Hustler Of The Year, and Hip Hop Album Of The Year (Donda).
Additionally, Kendrick Lamar has nine chances to win. He is competing for Best Live Performer, Lyricist Of The Year, Hip Hop Artist Of The Year, Video Director Of The Year, Hip Hop Album Of The Year (Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers), and other honors.
Future came in fourth with 8 nominations. Cardi B picked up the most 2022 BET Award noms for a female rapper. The “Hot S###” performer tied Baby Keem and J. Cole with 6 nods each. Doja Cat, Latto, Lil Durk, Tems, and Young Thug also received three nominations, respectively.
GloRilla, Jay-Z, Megan Thee Stallion, Nas, and Usher received two nominations each. The Hip Hop Album Of The Year category features Drake, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar as well as Latto (777), Future (I Never Liked You), Pusha T (It’s Almost Dry), and Nas (King’s Disease II).

The 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards will take place Tuesday, October 4 at 9 pm ET/PT on BET from the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. New York City rap legend Fat Joe will serve as the official host for the ceremony.

Things took a big turn yesterday when Twitter users responded to Nicki Minaj’s online actions by making the phrase “its giving coke” trend on the site next to her name. The fireworks kicked off again when Cardi B appeared to be the target of another Minaj subliminal shot.

The mentioning of “sympathy & payola” – a jab Nicki Minaj has used against Cardi B in the past – signified to many observers that the Queens-raised rapper aimed her tweet-offensive at her longtime rival. Cardi then seemed to fire back with her own message for Minaj.
At first, Cardi B simply posted over three dozen @ symbols. The Invasion of Privacy album creator returned to Twitter about ten minutes later to share more of her thoughts about the ongoing tension playing out on social media.

The Cardi B Vs Nicki Minaj Rivalry Began Four Years Ago
Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have been feuding for years at this point. After collaborating on Migos’ “Motorsport” single in 2017, things took a turn for the worse for the two chart-topping entertainers.
The bad blood culminated when Cardi B threw a shoe at Nicki Minaj during a New York Fashion Week after-party in 2018. That same year, they also had a very heated back-and-forth on social media that included Cardi calling out Nicki for slamming her online but not addressing her face-to-face in public.

Two of Atlanta’s top rap stars just added another major accolade to their respective résumés. The Recording Industry Association of America recently certified Lil Baby and Gunna’s “Drip Too Hard” as Diamond (10 million units).
Only 86 songs in the history of the RIAA have earned Diamond certification. “Drip Too Hard” became both Lil Baby and Gunna’s first Diamond Award-winning track.
“Drip Too Hard” resides on the duo’s 2018 collaborative project Drip Harder. The single peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and scored a Best Rap/Sung Performance nomination at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
Lil Baby and Gunna’s “Drip Too Hard” music video has amassed more than 81 million views on YouTube. Over on Spotify, the collaboration totaled more than 1 billion streams.
In addition to “Drip Too Hard” going Diamond, this has been a big week for Lil Baby for another reason as well. According to Billboard, the 27-year-old 4PF frontman’s “Detox” single debuted at #25 on the latest Hot 100 rankings.
As a result, Lil Baby tied Elvis Presley for 9th place on the list of most all-time entries on the Hot 100. Presley and Baby both have exactly 109 tracks that have made it onto the weekly tally of the most popular songs in America.
Gunna is currently incarcerated in Georgia on RICO charges. The YSL-affiliated rhymer has to remain in jail until his trial after a judge denied him bond. The man born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens maintains his innocence.
Stormzy joined the relatives of Chris Kaba at a London march and urged protestors to “keep going because the family needs you.”
Chris Kaba, also known as Madix from the U.K. drill collective 67, was fatally shot by a Metropolitan Police officer on Monday (Sept. 5). Cops car flagged the car he was in as potentially being linked to a previous firearms offense. Armed police surrounded his vehicle before firing a round.
The cop who fired the shot that killed Chris Kaba has been suspended from frontline duties, the Metropolitan police confirmed.
As reported by The Guardian, Met police assistant commissioner, Amanda Pearson, said on Monday: “Following the death of Chris Kaba, the firearms officer involved has been suspended from duty.”
“Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Mr Kaba’s family and friends. We understand how concerned communities are, particularly black communities, and thank those who are working closely with our local officers.”

Protesters marched through central London on Saturday, demanding justice for Chris Kaba and his family. Stormzy, a vocal advocate in the fight against institutionalized racism and police brutality, addressed the crowd.
He explained he was hesitant to speak but said it was not about him. “It’s about us, it’s about the family, it’s about everyone grieving. Chris has a mother, he has a family, he has brothers, he has friends, people who knew him their whole life, for them, this is unbearable.”
Stormzy urged protestors to continue to put pressure on authorities while acknowledging it can be a long road ahead.
“I just encourage everyone, at whatever capacity, do whatever you can do to help. But also have the stamina to keep going because they have killed someone, that’s murder. Just keep going because the family needs you.”
