Juice WRLD Earns First RIAA Diamond Award For “Lucid Dreams”

Jarad Anthony Higgins passed away from a drug overdose on December 8, 2019. The late musician, better known as Juice WRLD, left his imprint on Hip Hop with hit records such as “Lucid Dreams.”

The Recording Industry Association of America certified “Lucid Dreams” as a Diamond-selling single. The Goodbye & Good Riddance track officially crossed the 10 million units sold mark.

This gives Juice WRLD his first Diamond Award from the RIAA. In addition, “All Girls Are the Same” is currently 6x-Platinum, “Robbery” is 5x-Platinum, and “Lean wit Me” is 4x-Platinum.

On the album side of the ledger, 2018’s Goodbye & Good Riddance reached 3x-Platinum status. Juice WRLD’s 2019 sophomore LP, Death Race for Love, is currently certified 2x-Platinum. The posthumous 2020 project Legends Never Die is also 2x-Platinum.

Juice WRLD was back in the headlines in recent months following the release of the Tommy Oliver-directed documentary Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss. The HBO film served as an unofficial companion piece to 2021’s Fighting Demons album.

Into the Abyss featured appearances by Lil Bibby, Polo G, G Herbo, Ski Mask the Slump God, Cole Bennett, The Kid Laroi, and other associates of the deceased Chicago-bred rhymer. Juice WLRD’s mother, Carmela Wallace, is credited as a producer for the documentary.

King Von’s Estate To Release Posthumous Album ‘What It Means To Be King’

Dayvon “King Von” Bennett tragically lost his life on November 6, 2020, at the age of 26. The Chicago-raised rapper’s voice will be heard once again on a forthcoming posthumous project.

King Von’s Estate partnered with Lil Durk’s Only The Family and Ghazi Shami’s EMPIRE to release What It Means To Be King. Fans of the late rapper can look for the album to hit DSPs on March 4.

The news single “Don’t Play That” featuring 21 Savage arrived on February 4. The song’s official visualizer already collected over 1.8 million plays on YouTube. Over on Spotify, the track amassed another 2 million streams.

Kid Hazel produced King Von and 21 Savage’s “Don’t Play That” collaboration. Chopsquad DJ also provided beats for the upcoming What It Means To Be King album.

Welcome to O’Block, King Von’s debut studio LP, contains multiple songs with Chopsquad DJ production. That 2020 project peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Plus, Welcome to O’Block spent one week at #1 on Billboard‘s Independent Albums chart. 2019’s Grandson, Vol. 1 and 2020’s Levon James mixtapes also made it into the Independent Albums chart’s Top 10.

Elsewhere, Headie One has spoken on the global appeal of drill music following his collaboration on “Aston Martin” with Italy’s Shiva.

“Everyone around the world is always open to new sounds. Drill is very honest,” Headie One told Clash. “When you’re not sugar-coating anything and you’re telling the whole truth, you’re just being true to yourself. Columbus Short Addresses Getting Arrested Again For Domestic Violence

News broke over the weekend involving Columbus Short. According to reports, police arrested the 39-year-old former Scandal star for felony domestic violence.

A recent TMZ article claimed authorities arrived at Columbus Short’s San Fernando Valley home on Wednesday night after an altercation with his wife. This is the second time Short was taken into custody for alleged domestic violence, following a 2018 incident.

Columbus Short decided to address the situation in a direct-to-camera video posted to social media. The Stomp the Yard actor admitted to getting physical with his spouse.

“Let me tell you what really happened. I asked my wife to leave the home due to my frustration, and I grabbed her phone which I shouldn’t have did, and I scratched her hand,” said Short.

He continued, “Post-OJ, if police came here, detectives were here… just ridiculous. We had to make a decision. They didn’t want to take me. They didn’t want to take her. But they had to make a decision. Based on that scratch, I went to jail.”

Columbus Short went on to apologize to anyone he felt was let down by his actions. After spending around twelve hours in jail, Short reportedly bonded out on $50,000. As of press time, no formal charges have been filed against him.

Cardi B’s ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ Becomes First Female Rap Album To Spend 200 Weeks On The Billboard 200

Cardi B just added another major accolade to his ever-growing list of accomplishments. The Bronx entertainer’s debut studio LP, Invasion of Privacy, spent its 200th week on the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Chart Data, Invasion of Privacy is now the first album by a female rapper to remain on the Billboard 200 for at least 200 weeks. Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy originally opened at #1 in 2018.

Invasion of Privacy also holds several other music industry records. For example, in 2019, the project was cited as the most-streamed female rap album on Spotify.

Cardi B became the first female rapper to win the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album when Invasion of Privacy took home the trophy in 2019. In addition, the RIAA certified all thirteen IOP tracks as Gold, Platinum, or Multi-Platinum, making Cardi the first female artist in history to reach that milestone.

Invasion of Privacy hosts the Diamond-certified singles “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It” with Bad Bunny and J Balvin. Cardi B also earned a Diamond plaque for her featured verse on Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.” She is the first and only female rapper to have three Diamond songs.

The Memphis rapper revealed his plans on Sunday (Feb. 6). He said he has given “universal clearance” for any artist to record a verse on his song “Dolla Fo’ Dolla” and make money from it. They can release their version of the track on streaming platforms and keep any revenue they may earn.

The winning rapper not only would feature on the album, but he would also consider signing them to his label.

He revealed the winner as 10 Percent who was included on the album. However, Yo Gotti also chose to bless a few other participants in the challenge.

He rewarded a college student for ‘focusing on ur Talent while Still focusing on ur Education,” and offered to pay her tuition next semester.

Wendy Williams Takes Bank To Court For Freezing Account Over Suspected Dementia

Wendy Williams is taking her bank to court to demand they give her access to her finances after Wells Fargo froze her accounts.

According to court documents obtained by The Jasmine Brand, the bank suspects “financial exploitation, dementia or undue influence” relating to Wendy’s finances. Furthermore, the documents suggest she has been unable to access her account for more than two weeks. Her petition states she is suffering “imminent and irreparable financial damage,” as a result.

“Wells Fargo’s actions and the actions of its agents have impeded and unlawfully prevented [Williams] access to her property,” the petition continued.

Wendy Williams Seeks Access to “Several Million Dollars”

The legal documents reveal Wendy is asking the court for an emergency order. The bank is allegedly in “possession of several million dollars’ worth of funds,” according to the petition.

However, court filings and Wendy’s attorney state her financial adviser reported to the bank Wendy “was of unsound mind.” The bank justified its decision to withhold the funds by referencing its authority under user agreements. They claim the agreements permit them to “pause or reject instructions for a proposed transaction” if the company suspects “financial exploitation, dementia, or undue influence.”

Wendy Williams is seeking immediate access to her account while the dispute goes through the arbitration process.

Meanwhile, back in November, Wendy Williams’ brother denied reports she was suffering from dementia. However, neither Wendy nor her team has addressed the recent petition.

Fat Joe & Remy Ma Return As Guest Hosts

The Wendy Williams Show has continued in her absence since July 2021. The latest guest hosts are Remy Ma and Fat Joe, who return this week after a successful stint on the show last year.

https://www.instagram.com/tv/CZqPw6mFv99/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Elsewhere it was reported last week that some staff members at The Wendy Williams Show are unhappy in her absence. Page Six reports various producers feel guest hosts like Michael Rapaport, Leah Remini, and Whitney Cummings alienate the audience.

“They’re not factoring in the culture. The all-white management is out of touch with the demographic, which skews mostly African American,” an insider told Page Six. They were particularly unhappy with Michael Rapaport hosting the first week of Black History Month. “It’s like they’re programming against the culture instead of leaning into it,” the insider said.

Azealia Banks Calls Kanye West An “Abusive Psychopath” Blasts His Treatment Of Kim Kardashian

Kanye West has been publicly addressing his co-parenting issues with Kim Kardashian for some time. He claimed Kim tried to “kidnap” their daughter and refused to permit him to take their children to Chicago. He also criticized his soon-to-be-ex-wife for letting North West use TikTok despite him not agreeing with it. In one of his most recent outbursts, he alleged Kim accused him of putting a hit out on her life

Azealia Says Ye “Has Publicly Bullied North West”

Azealia Banks, a staunch critic of Kanye West, took to social media to condemn his behavior. She also took issue with his treatment of the mother of his children.

“Y’all are making way too many excuses for Kanye,” she wrote on her Instagram stories. This is the second time he has publicly bullied North West. First with the abortion s–t, and now putting her on blast on his Instagram page as if she is some sort of criminal,” she wrote.

“Kanye had no problem with that magazine cover where North had on a f–king belly top and purple eyeliner with her little buds showing thru the shirt, he thought it was fashion. You all said nothing,” she continued.

She further accused Kanye West of trying to “wreck the mental health of the only person around to care for children.” She then criticized him for hanging with “druggy s### bags” and suggested that Kanye was going through “rapid opioid/heroin comedown/withdrawal type outbursts.”

“Y’all wanna call it a mental health issue. I have never once seen Kanye have this much smoke for any of his male adversaries,” she said.

“Trying to accuse a mother of kidnapping her own child ???? Was Chicago supposed to be hanging out with him and Julia [Fox]‘s horrible cool sculpting while they get drunk and high so Julia can blow vape pen smoke in Chicago‘s face?” she continued.

“Kanye West is an Abusive Psychopath”

The “Luxury” hitmaker then alleged Kanye West “an abusive psychopath” who treats his daughter like a “piece of property.”

“Maybe North is looking for a fun escape because she has to look online and see her dumb ass dad always talking s–t about her mother and when Kim won’t give him the attention he begs for he turns his anger on her by posting her picture to his Instagram, talking about ‘his will’ as if she is a f–king piece of property and not a young Black girl just trying to be happy. For f–ks sake. Kanye West is an abusive psychopath, it’s beyond mental illness. Stop trying to help him and start trying to help the poor child that he keeps on trying to embarrass and abuse publicly to garner sympathy for his ashy ass.”

Lil Durk To Drop New Album Same Day As Ye

Lil Durk is set to square off with Kanye West, as both of their new albums are set to be released on February 22, 2022.

Durk made the revelation on Twitter to the glee or chagrin of the Internet. He made it a point to mention that he would be releasing his newest project on the same day as Ye.

The tweet immediately got thousands of likes and retweets.

On his Instagram, he made a seemingly more humble statement. “Make room for me Ye,” he said. However, on the previous IG post he proclaimed himself the king of his city. Both men hail from Chicago.

That post, which accompanied a picture of him stooped over a pile of money, received nothing but love and praise from his adoring audience.

Lil Durk previously revealed the album would be titled 7220.

He also stated that there would be an accompanying tour that would kick off Friday, April 8 in Phoenix Arizona Federal Theatre.

“Silencing” Joe Rogan Not Happening Spotify CEO Says, Confirms Removal of Podcast Episodes

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek says he “strongly” condemns Joe Rogan’s use of “racially insensitive language,” however he also said the broadcaster will remain on the platform, “canceling voices is a slippery slope.”

The Spotify boss made the comments in a letter sent to staff, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter

“Silencing” Joe Rogan Is Not The Answer

He began, “There are no words I can say to adequately convey how deeply sorry I am for the way The Joe Rogan Experience controversy continues to impact each of you. Not only are some of Joe Rogan’s comments incredibly hurtful – I want to make clear that they do not represent the values of this company.”

EK said Spotify has spoken to “Rogan about some of the content in his show, including his history of using some racially insensitive language.” According to the Spotify boss, Joe Rogan chose to remove “a number of episodes” from Spotify and issued his own apology this weekend.

A website tracking The Joe Rogan Experience episodes on Spotify notes a total of 113 episodes have been taken down.

He continued and said while he “strongly” condemns Joe Rogan’s use of racial slurs and agrees with the removal of past episodes from Spotify he acknowledges this may not be enough for some employees. However, he clarified, ” I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer. We should have clear lines around content and take action when they are crossed, but canceling voices is a slippery slope.”

Spotify Pledge $100 Million Investment

According to EK, Spotify pledged $100 million towards “elevating all types of creators, including those from underrepresented communities and a diversity of backgrounds.” He continued, “So I am committing to an incremental investment of $100 million for the licensing, development, and marketing of music (artists and songwriters) and audio content from historically marginalized groups. This will dramatically increase our efforts in these areas.”

He also expressed “deep regret” that his staff is “carrying so much of this burden.” Nonetheless, EK says, “in order to achieve our goal of becoming the global audio platform, these kinds of disputes will be inevitable.”

As reported by AllHipHop.com on Saturday (Feb. 5), Joe Rogan put out a video apologizing for his use of the “n-word.” The apology came following wide circulation of a resurfaced compilation of Rogan frequently using the racial epithet over the years.

India.Arie was among the artists who removed their content from Spotify. Many had issues with Rogan allegedly promoting COVID-19 vaccination misinformation.

You can read Ek’s letter to Spotify employees in full below.

Spotify Team,

There are no words I can say to adequately convey how deeply sorry I am for the way The Joe Rogan Experience controversy continues to impact each of you. Not only are some of Joe Rogan’s comments incredibly hurtful – I want to make clear that they do not represent the values of this company. I know this situation leaves many of you feeling drained, frustrated and unheard.

I think it’s important you’re aware that we’ve had conversations with Joe and his team about some of the content in his show, including his history of using some racially insensitive language. Following these discussions and his own reflections, he chose to remove a number of episodes from Spotify. He also issued his own apology over the weekend.

While I strongly condemn what Joe has said and I agree with his decision to remove past episodes from our platform, I realize some will want more. And I want to make one point very clear – I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer. We should have clear lines around content and take action when they are crossed, but canceling voices is a slippery slope. Looking at the issue more broadly, it’s critical thinking and open debate that powers real and necessary progress.

Another criticism that I continue to hear from many of you is that it’s not just about The Joe Rogan Experience on Spotify; it comes down to our direct relationship with him. In last week’s Town Hall, I outlined to you that we are not the publisher of JRE. But perception due to our exclusive license implies otherwise. So I’ve been wrestling with how this perception squares with our values.

If we believe in having an open platform as a core value of the company, then we must also believe in elevating all types of creators, including those from underrepresented communities and a diversity of backgrounds. We’ve been doing a great deal of work in this area already but I think we can do even more. So I am committing to an incremental investment of $100 million for the licensing, development, and marketing of music (artists and songwriters) and audio content from historically marginalized groups. This will dramatically increase our efforts in these areas. While some might want us to pursue a different path, I believe that more speech on more issues can be highly effective in improving the status quo and enhancing the conversation altogether.

I deeply regret that you are carrying so much of this burden. I also want to be transparent in setting the expectation that in order to achieve our goal of becoming the global audio platform, these kinds of disputes will be inevitable. For me, I come back to centering on our mission of unlocking the potential of human creativity and enabling more than a billion people to enjoy the work of what we think will be more than 50 million creators. That mission makes these clashes worth the effort.

I’ve told you several times over the last week, but I think it’s critical we listen carefully to one another and consider how we can and should do better. I’ve spent this time having lots of conversations with people inside and outside of Spotify – some have been supportive while others have been incredibly hard, but all of them have made me think.

One of the things I am thinking about is what additional steps we can take to further balance creator expression with user safety. I’ve asked our teams to expand the number of outside experts we consult with on these efforts and look forward to sharing more details.

Your passion for this company and our mission has made a difference in the lives of so many listeners and creators around the world. I hope you won’t lose sight of that. It’s that ability to focus and improve Spotify even on some of our toughest days that has helped us build the platform we have. We have a clear opportunity to learn and grow together from this challenge and I am ready to meet it head on.

I know it is difficult to have these conversations play out so publicly, and I continue to encourage you to reach out to your leaders, your HR partners or me directly if you need support or resources for yourself or your team.

The Weeknd Restored FKA Twigs’ Confidence In Music

FKA Twigs’ confidence was restored when she reached out to The Weeknd for a collaboration, and he said yes.

The British singer-songwriter, real name Tahliah Barnett, worked up the courage to send the “Blinding Lights” hitmaker a text asking for him to feature on her song “Tears in the Club” and could not believe it when he agreed.

“Honestly, in its very beginning, I couldn’t imagine he would say yes,” she told Variety. “Pablo (Díaz-Reixa, co-writer/producer El Guincho) thought I was being silly and that, of course, The Weeknd would want to be on it. We got up the confidence to write the text – you know how your friend gasses you up to do something – so I did it, sent him the MP3, and he knocked out the vocals within two weeks. He loved it.”

The 34-year-old added that having The Weeknd feature on her song gave her a real boost, saying, “That restored a lot of confidence in me, that I can reach out to Abel (the Weeknd) and other artists I might want to work with.”

The singer decided to write about having the courage to ask for what she wants on her song Lightbeamers, which features the lyrics, “Lay down your fears, baby, ain’t nobody die from it.”

Explaining the line, Twigs said, “One thing I have learned on this album is that you’re not going to die from asking a question or hearing ‘no.’ If you want something, go and get it.”

Both “Lightbeamers” and “Tears in the Club” feature on her mixtape Caprisongs, which was released in January.

Janet Jackson Explains Why She Needed Questlove In Documentary About Her Life

Janet Jackson has hinted she may be about to release new music. Janet dropped her eleventh studio album, Unbreakable, all the way back in October 2015.

During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Jimmy asked Janet Jackson whether she was considering releasing “Luv I Luv” – which appears in the credits at the end of her self-titled four-part documentary – as a single.

“It’s so funny because that’s a song I recorded three years ago, and then with the documentary, we thought, ‘Oh this would be cool to put this song here at this moment, this piece in the documentary.’ And everyone started reacting to it,” she explained. “So, I don’t know, we’ll just have to see. Maybe it will be a single, we’ll see… I’ve recorded so many songs that I’ve never released.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaRXBPFd4GY

Elsewhere in the chat, Jimmy joked that Questlove, who plays in his talk show’s house band, must have begged her to appear in the documentary.

“It was very important for me to have Quest in the documentary,” the 55-year-old smiled. “He was such a huge supporter in getting me inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with all the fans. I just can’t thank him enough. That’s just a huge moment in my career, in my life.”

Julia Fox Explains How She Told Kanye About Her Past With Her “Friend” Drake

Actress Julia Fox is attempting to shut down a growing narrative that she once dated hip-hop star Drake.

Julia, who is currently involved in a whirlwind romance with Drake’s frenemy, Kanye West, addressed the love triangle on her podcast “Forbidden Fruits.”

According to Julia, Drake was a “gentleman” and a great guy, and “that was it.”

“Nothing really happened. We were just, like, friends hanging out. I wouldn’t say that we were dating,” Julia Fox revealed on Friday’s episode of “Forbidden Fruits,” which featured Drake’s former artist, ILoveMakonnen.

Julia said she was an open book with Kanye as soon as they met and informed him of her past relationship with the “Certified Lover Boy.”

“Obviously, when I first started speaking to Ye, I told him immediately,” Julia Fox revealed. “I think on the first day before it went any further. Because I’m just an honest person.”

Julia and Drake started their brief romance over a year ago, around Valentine’s Day. According to reports, Drake DM’ed Julia after seeing her in the 2019 film “Uncut Gems.”

Although Julia believes Kanye and Drake have “squashed their issues,” it appears as though a cold war may still exist between the two superstars.

Drake reportedly gave Julia two expensive Birkin bags while they were dating.

The news didn’t sit well with Kanye, who spent some of his billions by showering Julia and all of her friends with Birkin bags for her birthday last week.

Do you really wanna be so tightly wound? Free yourself in love. You deserve it.”

The chart-topping rapper is fully exposed on all fours in a follow-up picture, with a simple caption: “Art.”

Lizzo has had many battles with trolls on social media, who frequently attack her over her weight. Last August, she broke down in tears after releasing the video for her song “Rumors.”

She was accused of putting on a modern-day minstrel show, while others likened her to the character “Mammy” from the film “Gone With The Wind”

Cardi B rushed to Lizzo’s defense, and thankfully Lizzo managed to rise above the insults.

“Loving yourself in a world that don’t love u back takes an incredible amount of self awareness & a b####### detector that can see through ass backwards societal standards…,” Lizzo said. “if u managed to love yourself today I’m proud of u.”

The 33-year-old rapper is gearing up to release a batch of new music. Last week, Lizzo posted a snippet of her new song, which she played for her mother for the first time.

Roddy Ricch Flees Social Media After Criticism Over Song Snippet

Apparently, Roddy Ricch cannot take criticism.

Yesterday (February 5th), the Compton rapper shared a snippet of his unreleased song called “Out Of My Mind.”

Unfortunately, the feedback from his fans was less than stellar, and many accused the Grammy Award-winning artist of falling off.

It appears as though most people were not happy with the snippet of Roddy Ricch singing the chorus to the song.

One user said, “Bad mixing and he doesn’t have that energy we know him for on the track, I understand doing new things and innovating but this could’ve went harder if he had better lyrics and more emphasis on how he raps/sings it.”

Another lamented, “the snippet is pretty trash, he needs to reset expectations and get back to the music that brought him here in the first place, we need feed tha streets roddy.”

Late last night, the rapper deactivated his Instagram and Twitter accounts to avoid the intense backlash.

The rapper fleeing from social media ends what should have been a good week for Roddy Ricch.

He has a high profile appearance on the song “Outstanding” taken from 2 Chainz’s new album Dope Don’t Sell Itself.

Despite the intense criticism directed at Roddy Ricch over the snippet of “Out Of My Mind,” he still has a huge fan base and is far from falling off.

Roddy Ricch’s album The Box has sold more than 10 million units since its release in 2019.

The milestone made Roddy Ricch the eighth Hip-Hop artist to earn a Diamond certification from the RIAA for a solo album.

Lil Uzi Gets Probation, Must Undergo Mental Health Treatment For Pulling Gun On Brittany Bird And SAINT JHN

Rapper Lil Uzi has avoided prison time over a wild encounter with his ex-girlfriend Brittany Byrd and singer SAINT JHN.

Last July, Brittany and SAINT JHN were at the Dialog Cafe in Los Angeles as the pair conducted what was labeled as a business meeting.

The rapper, who happened to be passing by the cafe in his SUV, noticed the pair and decided to see what was going on.
