New Book Drops Celebrating The History Of Bling In Hip-Hop Culture

While it’s a proven fact that the world looks at Hip-Hop for fashion choices, a must-have element for a rapper’s designer wardrobe is the jewelry he rocks.

Some with some age on them might call it “trunk,” but the most popular term came from a 16-year-old rapper from New Orleans named Lil Wayne, who in the early 2000s came up with the term “Bling Bling.”

In an exploration of the shiniest jew-els, CNN “Cuban-linked” up the history of bling for people to see how it went from small flimsy gold chains to platinum wonders and pieces of art.

Pioneering rapper Slick Rick talked about his motivation for rocking ice in the new book, “Ice Cold: A Hip-Hop Jewelry History,” by Vikki Tobak.

The Ruler said, “Big pieces are my thing. On stage, I want the concertgoers and supporters to see and feel my pieces from the farthest seat in the house.”

The first-time people started noticing trunk jewelry was with rappers like Slick Rick, Run DMC, Rakim, LL Cool J, and Bid Daddy Kane. By the time Nas hopped on the scene, he had made it a point to get the biggest and the flashiest collection to pay homage to some of the artists he looked up to as a kid.

He even said his infamous “QB chain” inspired other rappers in his generation to start rocking large chains in his song, “Meet Joe Black.”

But the Queensbridge lyrical architect might have been trumped by Ghostface from Staten Island.

Slick Rick said when he saw the WuTang Clansman’s Versace plate and a 6-pound solid gold eagle on his wrist, “I was up in the stands clapping approvingly.”

The book features several generations of bling wearers, including Migos, Nicki Minaj, Lil Jon, ASAP Rocky, and even introduces people to Jacob Arabo, aka Jake the Jeweler.

“The jewelry grew as Hip-Hop grew and changed,” the author shared in her interview with CNN. “That’s why I start the book talking about this bigger cultural significance and what was happening in New York specifically at that time — the height of the drug trade, the ’80s. All of that stuff really reflected in the jewelry, and you had to have a certain level of respect and protection if you were going to wear that stuff in the street.”

Tobak also shares, “Jewelry culture is very regional, from New York to LA to the South. I do think Atlanta, being the more recent kingdom, really kind of puts those Southern aesthetics into it — doing things a little bigger, a little flashier, a little more laid-back, if you will. But the jewelry is on a whole different level only because they’re coming up at a time when there’s so much to be done in jewelry.”

Of all the people she has interviewed, including Beyonce, she said Cam’ron has her favorite story.

“Cam’ron had a piece made by Rafaello & Co very early on, and it was the spinning globe piece, which is a very famous piece. It had a working motor and actually spun, and it was considered a very unique piece for the 2000s for using multicolored gems and being round and just being this very ostentatious piece,” Tobak said.

“I guess years later, Cam’ron got a little bored of it and was going to trade it back in for something. A lot of times the jeweler would deconstruct a piece like that, which is crazy to me, but they would take all the gemstones out, they would melt down the gold and make something else,” she said.

“Lil Yachty got word that Cam’ron was getting rid of this piece, and it had been such an influential piece for him — he’s such a significant collector as well — and he came to the rescue and said: ‘Oh, my God, you can’t get rid of that piece. You can’t melt it down. I want it.’

“So he bought it and then he changed it to say, ‘Yachty’s World.’ Yeah. So, that piece was rescued and lived on, and it takes on this whole new generational meaning. I love that story,” she said.

Vikki Tobak’s “Ice Cold: A Hip-Hop Jewelry History,” published by Taschen, is now available.

Willow Smith Can “Definitely” See Herself Quitting Music To Become Author

Willow Smith can “definitely” see herself quitting music to become a full-time writer.

The star recently unveiled the novel “Black Shield Maiden,” a historical epic that she co-wrote with Jess Hendel.

The story follows an African warrior in the world of the Vikings.

Promoting her debut book in an interview for NME, Willow revealed that she is keen to do more writing.

“That could definitely could happen,” she smiled. “Who knows? I love books, I love reading so hopefully. I love reading, some of my favorite artists are authors. I just always wanted to be an author, even before I wanted to do music. I love literature, I just think it’s a really beautiful art form.”

“Black Shield Maiden” is now available to purchase.

Willow dropped her fifth studio album Coping Mechanism this month too, but she remained tight-lipped about her other upcoming projects.

“There’s always some random stuff I’m getting myself into but what I do know is that it’s going to be fire,” the 21-year-old added.

Ice Cube Not Happy His Name Was Dragged Into Kanye West’s Antisemitism

Ice Cube denied he’s antisemitic after Kanye West claimed the West Coast legend inspired Yeezy’s tirades about Jewish people.

Kanye West mentioned the N.W.A member’s name during a Drink Champs interview, which featured ‘Ye making numerous offensive statements. Ice Cube insisted he didn’t incite Kanye West’s antisemitism in a Twitter post on Tuesday (October 18).

“I hate that my name was dragged into this Drunk Champs b#######,” Ice Cube wrote. “I don’t know what Ye meant by his statements, you’re gonna have to ask him.”

He added, “I didn’t put the batteries in his back. Please leave my name out of all the antisemitic talk. I’m not antisemitic and never have been.”

Kanye West continued to spew antisemitic rhetoric on Drink Champs after Instagram and Twitter suspended him for disturbing comments about Jewish people. He suggested Ice Cube played some role in the rants.

“Cube really set me up for this,” ‘Ye said. “You really influenced me to get on this antisemite vibe. And I’m here to finish the job. I’m here to not back down.”

Ice Cube faced accusations of antisemitism in the past. His “No Vaseline” diss track sparked outrage from a Jewish human rights organization in the early ‘90s. More recently, he generated controversy by sharing antisemitic imagery on social media in 2020.

Latin Artist & Producer International Nova & Music Partner Keyz Da Mogul Team Up With Ne-Yo For New Season Of “Step Up”

Fans of the show “Step Up” will get all sorts of rewards for their patience: an exciting third series of the hit drama showing the ambitious students at the High Water Performing Arts School, an elite training program for talented teen dancers.

The show premiered in 2018, came back for Season 2 a year later, and then was canceled. Although STARZ announced plans to bring back Season 3 in 2020, various production delays and the COVID global pandemic kept things off the air until this fall.

Along with amazing new episodes, the show introduces a new theme song created by Ne-Yo, who plays Sage, the head of the school.

To find the right sound and perfect lyrics, he worked closely with entertainer International Nova, as well as his partner Keyz Da Mogul, a notable producer.

They actually began working on the new piece last year, but had to keep most of the details on the down low until now, with the exception of assuring everyone that “it was going to be epic.”

Now that the show is off and running, more and more “Step Up” fans are wanting more info about the hit song and the talented artists behind it.

This includes International Nova, who grew up in the Bronx area of New York City. He later moved to Atlanta to pursue his acting and music career. Nova recently sat down with AllHipHop to share his thoughts on “Step Up” and other interesting parts of his musical career.

AllHipHop: What was it like for you and Keyz Da Mogul having this cool opportunity to work with Ne-Yo?

International Nova: I want to first say Ne-Yo is a genius and a really cool and down-to-earth guy. This process was insane because we had a time crunch in regard to getting the mix and the song just right. Keyz and myself worked endlessly on about 10 different versions over 24 hours, until we got the right one that fit right for the show theme. We look forward to working with Ne-Yo and his team on many more projects.

AllHipHop: Tell us about your music production group.

International Nova: A couple of years ago, we established our company, which we called “The Society.” It’s all about hard work and collaborating with the artists. It’s incredible, we have truly been blessed to write and produce music for some of the biggest artists out here. We are building our legacy brick by brick and planning to expand into a full-scale music production group covering all aspects of entertainment.

AllHipHop: As a solo artist, if you could collaborate with any artist, who would that be?

International Nova: I’m going to need to pick one person to work with in the areas of hip hop, Latin, and R&B. So, a total of three! The artists I’ve got to perform with include Rihanna for R&B, Becky G for Latin, and Drake for Hip-Hop.

AllHipHop: You’re getting lots of love for your latest singles. What inspired “Pa Mi” and “Dime”?

International Nova: I wanted to create a fun song that people of all ages can vibe too, and working with Vanessa Bling on “Dime” was like a dream come true. She’s really been a huge supporter on this record and l am planning on doing a music video with her. I know the chemistry is going to be fire.

AllHipHop: What’s next for International Nova?

International Nova: I have a few projects coming out that me and Keyz are working on. Also, l’m planning on dropping an EP before the year is out. I would like to thank my supporters for always believing in me. I promise to never change and always put my fans first.

To keep up with International Nova, follow him on social media @interntionalnova. To learn more about Step Up, check out the Season 3 trailer:

Singer, Rapper, and overall musical genius Missy Elliott was honored in her hometown of Portsmouth, Virginia with a street named after her.

Missy Elliott Boulevard now stands at a road previously known as McLean Street.

“I’ve rode down that boulevard so many times, so make sure y’all don’t get no misdemeanors on my street,” Elliott told the crowd.

“It’s my privilege to declare today in the Commonwealth of Virginia Missy Elliott Day,” Youngkin said.

Missy talked considerably and expressed adulation at getting such an honor.

The Game Picks Another Fight With 50 Cent

The Game has the eternal beef with 50 Cent. There as a time when I wished they were able to fix it, but now, who cares? Both men are not at the top of their game lyrically, but The Game is at least trying to do stuff. His last album, Drillmatic – Heart vs. Mind, did not wow the world the way it was supposed to. I thought it was a solid work. I thought there were too many songs on it and I felt he could have focused on the songs. Not Eminem.

Anyway, that album just came out in August, but perhaps he is setting the table for his next round of beefs. I don’t know. Regardless, one thing you cannot say is that The Game isn’t a good father. He’s pretty much a great father, from what I have seen. Correct me in the comments, if am wrong. Anyway…the Compton OG sees what is going on with 50 and his son Marquis. Yes, they are beefing again.

Here’s what he posted on IG.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj3Nniep00m/?hl=en

Then he posted this:

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj3OC3Lpl-l/?hl=en

Last month, he posted his own father, who passed four years ago. He’s really about this fatherhood life.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CiNZA_zL4B6/?hl=en

Anyway, 50 Cent has not said anything to The Game. Of course Fif has been messing with his son, who says that $6,000+ was not enough per month in child support. The Game and G-Unit are one of the big “what ifs” of Hip-Hop. We’ll never know for sure.

Mystikal Requests Bond In Rape Case; Hires Forensics Experts

Mystikal sought his release from jail and made moves to bolster his defense in a pending rape case.

According to WBRZ, Mystikal asked a judge to reconsider bond while he awaits trial. The multi-platinum selling artist has remained in jail since he was arrested for sexual assault in July.

Mystikal’s attorney Joel Pearce also recruited a forensics firm to help prepare a defense for his client. Authorities accused the veteran rapper of raping, strangling and robbing a woman in Prairieville, Louisiana.

“Some of the most important data in this case is trapped in a mobile phone and social media providers,” Pearce said in a press release. “I immediately contacted Garrett Discovery to formulate a plan to capture the data so that justice can be served.”

Garrett Discovery’s CEO Andrew Garrett proclaimed his team will examine digital evidence to determine the facts in Mystikal’s case.

“Law enforcement and prosecutors have the ability to search homes, arrest and jail those whom they feel are guilty,” Garrett said. “This comes with a great responsibility, but unfortunately, with high caseloads and mounting pressure, we often see cases that are not well developed or have come to the wrong conclusion. Attorney Pearce’s relentless pursuit of the truth will leave no stone unturned.”

Mystikal was indicted for first-degree rape, domestic abuse battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, simple criminal damage to property, simple robbery and multiple drug charges. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chrisean Rock Adds Another Blueface Tat To Her Body

She definitely has outdone herself, which is pretty hard to do at this point. I have to give her credit. She is committed to flagrantly fouling herself. That, my friends, is beyond crazy. As you should know, Chrisean Rock is basically Blueface’s bottom chick. Sometimes they are on and other times they are off. But they are always “something. This time, Chrisean manages to find a way to get our attention in the midst of all of this Kanye Mania.

M.I.A. Goes In On GQ For Dropping Her From Awards Show Over Vaccine Comments

Rapper M.I.A. claims GQ canceled her for posting her opinions about the COVID-19 vaccine. Read more!

M.I.A. has claimed that she’s been uninvited from the upcoming GQ Men Of The Year Awards over her stance on Covid-19 vaccines.

After the “Bad Girls” rapper – real name Mathangi Arulpragasam – posted on Twitter comparing Covid-19 vaccine information to Alex Jones’ conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook massacre, she was dropped from the 2022 GQ awards bash.

The rapper wrote, “If Alex jones pays for lying shouldn’t every celebrity pushing vaccines pay too ?” referencing the far-right radio personality being ordered to pay nearly $1 billion in damages for alleging that the 2012 American school shooting was faked and inciting harassment on the victim’s families.

In a follow-up tweet, she compared Jones’ Sandy Hook conspiracy theory to vaccine manufacturer Pfizer “lying,” writing: “One with penalty other without. If you have no critical thinking faculty, this is about as crazy as we should get before a nuclear war wipe out the human race.”

Later, M.I.A. shared a screenshot of messages that appeared to be from a GQ representative to someone on her team.

A message from the rep alerted the 47-year-old’s management that she would no longer be invited to the magazine’s Men Of The Year Awards event or the associated photoshoot “due to (her posts’) controversial nature.”

It is unclear what role she was slated to have at the awards night.

M.I.A. captioned the screenshot: “You print words for living . How do you judge man of the year when you don’t have balls ?”
The GQ Men Of The Year Award 2022 will be held on November 16th at the Tate Modern in London.

George Floyd’s Family Suing Ye For $250 Million; Says Rapper Is Spreading Lies To Promote His Brands

The mother of George Floyd’s child has made good on the family’s threat to sue Kanye West over the rapper’s comments about her son’s death.

Roxie Washington, who is the sole beneficiary of George Floyd’s estate, retained the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law to file a $250 million lawsuit against the rapper for emotional distress.

They have also issued a cease and desist letter to Kanye, who has been making inflammatory statements about George Floyd’s death.

During his controversial sit down with the “Drink Champs” podcast, Kanye West claimed George Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose and not at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin, who kneeled on the man’s neck for over 9 1/2 minutes.

Derek Chauvin was convicted of killing George Floyd and was sentenced to 21 years in prison in July of 2022.

According to attorney Nuru Witherspoon, Kanye has been making statements to promote his brands.

“The interests of the child or priority. George Floyd’s daughter is being re-traumatized by Kanye West’s comments, and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her,” Nuru Witherspoon said.

“Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death. We will hold Mr. West accountable for his flagrant remarks against Mr. Floyd’s legacy,” attorney Pat D. Dixon III, a partner at Dixon & Dixon attorneys at law, added.

The “Drink Champs” interview has since been removed, and one of the show’s hosts has been on an apology tour for giving Ye a platform to spread misinformation.

Ye Says Kris Jenner Is Turning His Daughter Chicago “Into A Problem”

Ye has claimed that his former mother-in-law Kris Jenner is trying to turn his daughter Chicago “into a problem.”

In a clip from his “Drink Champs” interview, which has been shared on TikTok, the Donda rapper spoke about his worries for his four-year-old daughter Chicago, whom he shares with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

In the video, the rapper blamed streaming service Hulu, which broadcasts “The Kardashians” reality show, and Kim’s mother Kris for Chicago’s potential difficulties.

“Chicago is either gonna be a blessing or she gonna be a problem,” Ye said. “And I feel like Hulu, and I feel like Kris are trying to turn her into a problem.”

He added that he was expressing his concern “as a father.”

During one of his many Instagram rants in September, Ye took aim at Kris by calling her out for supporting her daughters Kim and Kylie Jenner posing for Playboy magazine in 2007 and 2019, respectively.

“Don’t let Kris make you do playboy like she made (Kylie) and Kim do,” he wrote beside a photo of Victoria Villarroel, Kylie’s former assistant. “Hollywood is a giant brothel Pornography destroyed my family I deal with the addiction instagram promotes it Not gonna let it happen to (his daughters) Northy and Chicago.”

Kim responded by texting Ye a message from Kris, which reads, “Tell him to please stop mentioning my name. I’m almost 67 years old and I don’t always feel great and this stresses me to no end.”

In the “Drink Champs” interview, the hip-hop star incorrectly claimed that George Floyd, the victim of police brutality, died as a result of the synthetic opioid fentanyl and alleged that “Jewish media” blocked him after his antisemitic rant on social media.

The episode has been removed from YouTube and Revolt TV and interviewer N.O.R.E. has apologized for giving Ye the platform for his controversial opinions.

Lil Baby Explains Why He Won’t Drop ‘It’s Only Me’ Deluxe

Releasing a deluxe version of an album after the release of the standard version has become a regular practice in the music industry. However, Lil Baby says he will not follow that routine with his latest rollout.

Lil Baby released It’s Only Me on October 14, 2022. The Quality Control Music representative spoke to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s New Music Daily about the new studio LP.

Specifically, Baby discussed why his supporters should not expect an extended version of It’s Only Me. He explained his reasoning for not creating a deluxe version during the conversation with Zane Lowe.

Fans Have Been Waiting For The New Lil Baby Album

“I’m not going to try to do a deluxe. I’m just going to let that rock out, let that be it. I think I just want to go on and get it out there,” said Lil Baby about It’s Only Me.

The 27-year-old rhymer continued, “I had [the fans] waiting so long, I don’t even want to prolong it no more. Go on and knock this whole It’s Only Me out, and come on out with another album.”

Lil Baby’s It’s Only Me features Nardo Wick, Young Thug, Fridayy, Future, Rylo Rodriguez, Jeremih, EST Gee, and Pooh Shiesty. The Quality Control/Motown release contains production by Kaigoinkrazy, Murda Beatz, Wheezy, ATL Jacob, Tay Keith, and more.

It’s Only Me Projected To Open At #1 On The Album Chart

“It was a lot of songs to choose from. That’s how I ended up choosing so many… I’d say maybe 80 songs. but for where I am in my career and how fast things changed for me, I’m almost a completely different person. So in my lyrics, you could hear a major elevation,” Lil Baby told Zane Lowe.

It’s Only Me is currently on pace to debut at #1 on next week’s Billboard 200 chart. Industry forecasters expect Baby’s third album will pull in between 185,000-210,000 first-week units.

Lil Baby already has two #1 albums in his discography. My Turn held on to the Billboard 200’s pole position for five nonconsecutive weeks in 2020. Last year, The Voice Of The Heroes collaborative project with Lil Durk also made it to the top of the Billboard 200.

Rihanna Reportedly Recorded Two Songs For ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

Even though Rihanna has not released a full-length body of work since 2016’s Anti, the R&B/Pop icon always remains one of the most-talked-about recording artists in the world.

According to HitsDailyDouble, the Rihanna music drought could be over in the near future. The site reports that Riri may have recorded two new songs for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will arrive in theaters on November 11, 2022. If Rihanna did contribute tracks for the upcoming movie, fans will get to hear those songs in less than a month.

The first Black Panther film came out in February 2018. Hip Hop superstar Kendrick Lamar curated Black Panther: The Album which features his Oscar-nominated collaboration “All the Stars” with SZA.

Rihanna has provided sounds for movie soundtracks in the past. The 2015 animated motion picture Home featured the Barbadian vocalist’s “Towards the Sun,” “As Real as You and Me,” and “Dancing in the Dark.”

Anti landed on DSPs the following year. After holding the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 for two weeks, Rihanna’s eighth studio album has spent over 300 total weeks on the chart. Anti also earned a 3x-Platinum plaque from the RIAA.

Kendrick Lamar and TDE’s Black Panther: The Album held the Billboard 200’s #1 position for three weeks in 2018. The RIAA certified the soundtrack as Platinum. Black Panther: The Album picked up numerous industry awards such as a Grammy for Best Rap Performance (“King’s Dead”).

Regardless if the Black Panther soundtrack rumors turn out to be true, Rihanna already has a big year lined up for 2023. The billionaire Fenty fashion house founder will headline the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in February.

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Good Kid, M.A.A.D City’ Spends 10 Years On Billboard 200 Chart

Good Kid, M.A.A.D City continues to make history. The album many Kendrick Lamar fans consider to be the California emcee’s magnum opus crossed another major milestone this week.

Lamar’s major label debut charted at #43 on the latest Billboard 200. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City has now spent ten years (520 weeks) on the publication’s album rankings.

The TDE/Aftermath/Interscope release already claimed the title as the longest-charting Hip Hop studio album of all time. Only Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits compilation (601 weeks) has remained on the Billboard 200 longer.

Kendrick Lamar skyrocketed to mainstream stardom following the arrival of Good Kid, M.A.A.D City in 2012. The project debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 with 242,000 first-week units sold.

Numerous music critics and outlets placed Good Kid, M.A.A.D City near the top of their best-of-the-year lists at the end of 2012 and best-of-the-decade lists at the end of 2019. Lamar earned five nominations at the 56th Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album and Album Of The Year.

Last week, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City earned more critical praise. Rolling Stone magazine recently named Kendrick Lamar’s sophomore effort the greatest concept album of all time. GKMC beat Green Day’s American Idiot for the top spot.

In addition to Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, Kendrick Lamar’s catalog includes 2011’s Section.80, 2015’s To Pimp a Butterfly, 2016’s Untitled Unmastered, 2017’s Damn, and 2022’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. The Compton-bred rap star has remained on the Billboard 200 for a combined 987 weeks.

‘Superfly’ Actor Kaalan Walker Sentenced To 50 Years For Rape Conviction

Back in April, a California jury found Kaalan Rashad Walker guilty of multiple counts of rape. The 27-year-old actor learned he has been sentenced to 50 years in state prison.

The legal system convicted Kaalan Walker on three counts of forcible rape, two counts of statutory rape, and two counts of rape by intoxication. According to reports, Walker would bait his victims by promising them access to famous people.

A defense attorney argued the women were out for “revenge” after they “voluntarily” made their decisions to have sex with Walker. However, that argument did not sway the jurors to acquit the defendant.

“We feel that with this verdict, the jury gave these victims back their voices,” stated Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Wallace. “This was very sophisticated. He picked these girls and he appealed to their dreams and hopes and name-dropped Drake and used his connection to Halle Berry to get these girls somewhere and gain their trust.”

Kaalan Walker played Juju in the 2018 Superfly remake. His filmography also includes an appearance in the Halle Berry-led 2017 motion picture Kings. Plus, Walker acted in BET’s In Contempt television series.

As a recording artist, Kaalan Walker released music under the moniker KR. He dropped several projects, including The Intermission in 2017 and In Due Time in 2018. KR even released a “First Day Out Freestyle” in 2021.

Joey Bada$$ Defends Kanye West Over Removed Interview

Kanye “Ye” West’s recent controversial comments have caused a media firestorm. A recent interview with Drink Champs ignited more backlash, but fellow rap star Joey Bada$$ defended Ye on social media.

The sitdown with Drink Champs included Kanye West making false claims about the death of George Floyd. West also continued to express antisemitic views while speaking about Jewish people.

Drink Champs host N.O.R.E. later apologized for platforming Kanye West’s questionable takes, and the video interview is no longer available on Revolt’s YouTube channel. Joey Bada$$ took issue with the decision to remove the interview.

“I don’t support everything Kanye been saying and honestly been trying my best to ignore most of it (for my own peace of mind) but censoring his right to freedom of speech is WACK. Askin him to come speak on your platform and then removing/blocking the content cuz you don’t agree?” tweeted Joey Bada$$ on Monday.

The Brooklynite added, “We can have healthy disagreements. And yes Kanye can do a much better job at his delivery but it’s the same old story. Magnifying a small piece of what he said and taking it out of context. The mass media needs to learn some new moves it’s corny and so obvious at this point.”

Joey Bada$$ Expresses Regret For Weighing In On The Ye Controversy

Those tweets about Kanye Ye led to Joey Bada$$ dealing with a barrage of negative responses. After numerous Twitter users blasted Badass for seemingly providing cover for West’s problematic behavior, the 2000 album creator tried to change the subject.

“I knew I shouldn’t have gotten into the Kanye web got d#####. Every time smh 😂 let’s proceed like I ain’t said a word bout this matter. Carry on people. How about this NBA season huh?” posted Joey Bada$$.

The 27-year-old musician/actor also wrote, “I don’t delete tweets tho. I’m not p####. I just bury tweets with more tweets until I get to a comfortable enough point to go ghost again. Like now.”

According to reports, the family of George Floyd is considering filing a lawsuit against Kanye West. The billionaire mogul falsely suggested Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose. A jury found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty of murdering the unarmed African-American. Footage showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes.

The Godfather of the U.K. Grime scene addressed the feud during a recent in-depth interview on Jibber with Jaber. When the topic turned to the genre’s biggest artists of the modern era, Wiley paid tribute to Stormzy.

“The most recent grime MC/whatever rapper you’ve had is Stormzy. Big respect for Stormzy,” Wiley said before being challenged.

“Now?” the host questioned, in reference to their past beef. Wiley explained they were participating in the “sport of Grime,” adding that he didn’t really want to go back and forth with Stormzy. “I’ve said that to him. ‘I felt bad because you’re not from my day of Grime.”

When asked if they now “cool,” Wiley replied that while he hadn’t seen Stormzy, he believes the South Londoner is aware of “the business.”

He explained, “that means we’re on the same side,” before adding that Stormzy is one of the biggest artists in the scene. “So right now, they’ll put him up there,” Wiley continued. “Now other people who are not up there from his era will be like, ‘oh he’s not even good’.”

The U.K. Grime scene legend continued: “I actually got big respect for him because I know that it’s not easy to come in the game and do everything that he’s done and earn all that money without having your head screwed on.”

Wiley also acknowledged Stormzy excelled in such a short period partly due to the groundwork he and his peers put in. Watch the interview in full below.

The beef began in 2020 after Wiley criticized Stormzy for working with Ed Sheeran. The pair sent shots back and forth on explosive diss tracks. The “Vossi Bop” hitmaker branded the grime pioneer a “crackhead c**t” on Disappointed.” Wiley fired back with a threat to attack his rap rivals’ mother on “Eediyat Skengman 2.”

While Wiley has been keeping a relatively low profile of late, Stormzy is gearing up to release new music. His third studio album, This Is What I Mean, is due to arrive next month following the release of the single “Mel Made Me Do It.” He shared the song with its iconic video last month after a nearly three-years long absence.

Gunna Files Fourth Bond Motion A Week After Third Denial

Gunna is making a fourth attempt at getting out from behind bars, filing for bond for a fourth time just a week after being denied on his third try.

The “Pushin P” rapper’s legal team filed legal docs dated (Oct. 17) seeking his release on bond, according to a Complex report. “On three prior occasions, Defendant Kitchens has moved the Court for a reasonable bond,” Gunna’s co-lead counsel Steven Sadow stated. On each occasion, the State has made proffers at hearings that turned out to be false and/or misleading.”

Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, has remained in jail since his arrest in May. He and more than two dozen YSL members, including Young Thug, were indicted in a sweeping racketeering case. Gunna maintains his innocence after being charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act.

Gunna’s Team State Their Case For Bond

Lawyers for Gunna have taken issue with Judge Ural Glanville citing “all four bond factors” in denying his third request on Oct. 13, while only two factors were cited in refusing his second bond motion. The defence stated they find this “inexplicable.”

We now know for certain,” Sadow writes, “that the State’s last-minute assertion at the third bond hearing on October 13 that there was a text message (not disclosed to Kitchens in discovery as the Court had expressly ordered) between two individuals (neither of whom was Kitchens), where one person ‘offered to murder’ another person on Kitchens’ behalf, was undeniably false.”

The new filing says the State “has failed to proffer a single violent act or a single threat to a witness by Kitchens or on Kitchens’ behalf.” Sadow also points to “the State’s obvious willingness to say or do anything to deny Mr. Kitchens pretrial bail.”

The motion concluded,” The Court deserves nothing less than to be told the truth by the prosecutors. Kitchens respectfully demands the truth to be told, for his continued pretrial detention based on lies and misrepresentations constitutes a miscarriage of justice.”

Diddy Reaches Out To Gunna

Meanwhile, his celebrity friends have been offering support and encouragement during his time behind bars. Earlier this month, during a facetime call, Diddy told Gunna to “be laser focused,” in preparation for making a comeback

Then, Kim Kardashian made another plea for Gunna’s release after meeting the rapper earlier this year. She stated she has worked with his legal team since his incarceration and there is “zero evidence that he committed a crime.”
