Battle Rapper Chayna Ashley Drops Fire New Album “Ashes to Ashes”

Battle rappers often fall foul of the common misconception that they can’t make quality music. Despite the success of artists like Tsu Surf, whose recent collaborators include Benny The Butcher and G Herbo and Mozzy, or Arsonal Da Rebel with his tracks featuring NLE Choppa and Wyclef Jean, the stigma remains.

Veteran female battle rapper Chayna Ashley continues to challenge that misconception. The Bronx native dropped her latest album, “Ashes To Ashes,” on Wednesday (Feb. 24).

Chanya takes center stage on the eight-song project with a combination of her powerful delivery and elite lyricism. The only features come on “All My Life,” a tale of overcoming adversity. Ama Musiek delivers a compelling hook, while fellow female battle rapper Starquiasha a.k.a Star Smilez spits the second verse.

After cementing her role in female battle rap, Chayna Ashley took a break in 2019. However, she is making her return, which also motivated her to get back in the studio and create her new album.

Chayna views battling as part of her DNA as an MC and could not stay away for long. She returns as Queen of the Ring resurrect their famous boxing ring setting this year following a series of successful events in 2021 that elevated the women’s scene.

Chayna Ashley Says “True Lyricism” Is Making A Comeback

Now, with new developments, including the recent addition of Remy Ma as a league owner with her Chrome 23 battle league, Chayna Ashley knew the time was ripe for her return. “I see what’s happening in female battle rap and know I can contribute at an elite level like I’ve always had,” Chayna explained to AllHipHop.com. “When I do get back in that ring, they’re going to pray I stayed away,” she added.

Furthermore, Chayna believes “true lyricism” is making a comeback, the perfect time for her return. Despite this, she initially questioned her content and was unsure if she would be accepted back into the fold.

I strayed away and lost my way,” Chayna admitted. “Now I see that it never really left and know this is the time to show my true appreciation and RAP!” She added, “This is hip-hop and this is what it was meant to be!”

Chayna Ashley also discussed the challenges of making music in addition to battling and says mastering both is not an easy task. Both test MCs in different ways, which she says “truly pushes your pen and skill.”

She continued, “My battles showed me to not fear any moment! My music showed me I could touch lives and change them for the better. Both worlds have huge parts in my life and I’m glad to be at home in both!”

Conway The Machine Names The Rappers That Inspired Him

Conway The Machine is preparing to release his Shady Records debut, God Don’t Make Mistakes, on February 25. The Buffalo-bred emcee dropped the “Stressed” single as a precursor to the project.

Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe caught up with Conway The Machine to talk about “Stressed” featuring Wallo267. The conversation also included Conway discussing his personal musical inspirations.

“Jay-Z, 2Pac, Eminem, so on and so forth. Pretty long list of guys like that. I took to music as something for me to escape, to just have, where I could kind of take my mind off things and focus on the music,” explained the former Griselda roster member.

Eminem’s influence on Conway The Machine as a recording artist played a role in the New Yorker signing to Em’s Shady Records label. Conway addressed his decision to ink a deal with the Universal Music Group-backed company.

“Just being able to create and get mentorship from Eminem… that’s one of my favorite artists of all time, my favorite emcees of all time. So I’m just excited about having Eminem as a big brother,” Conway told Zane Lowe. “That pretty much sold and sealed the deal for me.”

The Machine continued, “Sometimes it can be a lot of pressure when you sign to a major label. It was important to me to still be able to feed my diehard fans and my core audience but still show some sort of growth. The approach was pretty much the same, I just had those pressures in the back of my mind. It wasn’t really pressure, I just wanted to make sure I feed my fans, my diehards on this one.”

Pardison Fontaine & Tory Lanez Clash Online Over Megan Thee Stallion

Social media was in a frenzy yesterday. After a February 23 pre-trial hearing for Tory Lanez’s criminal case, the “Say It” performer went back-and-forth online with Megan Thee Stallion as the world watched.

Two years ago, Megan Thee Stallion openly accused Tory Lanez of shooting her in the feet on July 12, 2020. Los Angeles County prosecutors eventually charged Lanez (born Daystar Peterson) with felony assault and carrying an unregistered firearm.

Tory Lanez has repeatedly denied shooting the Grammy-winning rapper that night. Megan The Stallion still insists Lanez is guilty of the crime, and her legal team suggested gunshot residue was found on the Canadian’s hands after the incident.

On Tuesday, the dispute boiled over on Twitter and Instagram. Both Megan The Stallion and Tory Lanez essentially accused the other of lying about the shooting, DNA evidence, text messages, and the court hearing.

Then Megan Thee Stallion’s boyfriend, Pardison Fontaine, got involved in the public feud. The “Backin’ It Up” hitmaker called out Tory Lanez for an in-person confrontation.

“@torylanez put the phone down let’s link… you n me… ain’t nothin to talk about,” tweeted Pardison Fontaine. Cardi B’s longtime co-writer added, “@torylanez don’t tweet nothin else… SEE ME.”

About twenty minutes later, Tory Lanez responded, “@pardi we’ve had this encounter… u did nothing 🥱put ya phone down big fella.” Lanez could be set to address the matter on wax. At 10:16 pm ET, the Juno award winner informed his followers he was headed to the studio.

Dave is one of the most successful U.K. rappers of his generation, with a platinum and gold album among his many accolades.

A post shared by SANTAN (@santandave)

The socially conscious rapper, who also happens to be a whizz at the piano, picked up the BRIT award for “Best Hip-Hop, Rap, Grime Act” in London last month. While touring his We’re All Alone In This Together, sophomore album Dave shared a personal moment with his fans.

Reading from his phone, the South London rapper revealed a text from his mother reflecting on their journey from homelessness to superstardom.

“Words cannot express how I feel,” the message began. “I’m very proud of you and your brothers and for all of our journeys.” Dave’s mother then recalled the time 20 years ago when the family was separated due to immigration issues. Dave was just six weeks old when his mother said the police took him from his father, who they were deporting. She was with his brothers and had to flee for fear of deportation herself. The family was not reunited until three months later.

She shared the hardship of having “no job, no husband, nothing,” and revealed they made a home of South London’s buses. Dave spoke of her joy now ‘this same country rolled their red carpet out for my sons,” to be celebrated. By the end of the speech, though Dave attempted to shout into the microphone his words were barely audible, drowned out by cheers from the crowd.

Before he could finish, Dave’s proud mother ran on stage for a tender embrace with her now-famous son.

50 Cent Trolls Mary J. Blige & Michael Jordan Over Butt-Tapping Memes

NBA legend Michael Jordan became a meme once again this week following NBA All-Star Weekend. The Charlotte Hornets owner was caught on camera lightly hitting R&B icon Mary J. Blige’s backside.

A clip of that interaction went viral on social media. Power franchise creator Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson even shared his own one-liners about the MJ and MJB butt-tapping moment.

“See just when we thought it was all fvcked up. 😆LOL,” wrote 50 Cent on Instagram. That post included an image of the former Chicago Bulls player and the Grammy-winning singer with a caption that joked about Blige’s character on Power Book II: Ghost.

Mary J. Blige plays Monet on the Starz network’s 50 Cent-produced television program. Power Book II: Ghost‘s Monet is directly connected to basketball player Ezekiel “Zeke” Cross (Daniel Bellomy) and drug dealer Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.).

50 Cent returned to Instagram to add another lighthearted dig at Michael Jordan and Mary J. Blige. The Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album creator wrote, “All-Star weekend 👀MJ & MJB, he palmed the ball 🏀LOL.”

Prior to the NBA All-Star Game, Mary J. Blige and 50 Cent took part in another major sporting event this month. The NFL tapped Blige, 50, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Anderson .Paak for the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show.

Kyle Rittenhouse Reveals Plans To Sue LeBron James & Others Who Told “Lies” About Him

Kyle Rittenhouse is adding LeBron James to the growing list of people he intends to sue.

Rittenhouse stood trial in November 2021 for fatally shooting two men and injuring another at an anti-racism protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020. At the time, LeBron James mocked him on Twitter, unconvinced by Rittenhouse’s breakdown while on the stand.

“What tears????? I didn’t see one,” James wrote in a tweet. “Man knock it off! That boy ate some lemon heads before walking into court.”

Rittenhouse was found not guilty on all charges relating to the shootings after a controversial trial.

Earlier this week, Kyle Rittenhouse announced his initiative to combat “lies” in the media. He laid out his plans during an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News on Monday night (Feb. 21).

Kyle Rittenhouse Unveils The “Media Accountability Project”

“Me and my team have decided to launch the Media Accountability Project,” Rittenhouse said, “as a tool to help fundraise and hold the media accountable for the lies they say and deal with them in court”.

Kyle Rittenhouse is doing the rounds on various media outlets to promote his project. During the debut episode of “Frontlines,” Rittenhouse explained his plans for LeBron James.

According to Daily Wire, “LeBron James will be getting a letter, too,” he told host of the show Drew Hernandez. “Anybody who defamed me, or lied about me, we’re just gonna send them a letter and then deal with them in a courtroom.”

Whoopi Goldberg is also a target, as Kyle Rittenhouse explained to Tucker Carlson.

“Well,” he said, “right now we’re looking at quite a few politicians, celebrities, athletes. Whoopi Goldberg is on the list. She called me a murderer, after I was acquitted by a jury of my peers.”

Goldberg previously said of Rittenhouse: “Even all the excuses in the world does not change the fact that three people got shot. Two people were murdered. To me it’s murder. I’m sorry.”

Producer Amadeus And Boxer Ky Shut It Down Help Launch 2022 Black Male Initiative

Platinum producer Amadeus, champion boxer Ky “Shut It Down” Davis, AHH’s Chuck Creekmur, and film maker Jet Phynx helped kick-off 2022 Raising Kings, a Wilmington, Delaware initiative for young Black youth.

The program, a facet of the One Village Alliance, seeks to redefine what it means to be a “King” to young men.

OVA says Raising Kings seeks to redefine what it means to be a “King” with the theme “Rise of the New Kings.”  The tremendously popular and influential program was founded by Chandra Pitts, who started it as a positive nod to her son. The initiative has disrupted the generational crisis of failure to create a counter-culture of fortitude, greatness, cultural awareness, and self-respect.

Amadeus, also an author, Creekmur, who is a cultural critic, Ky Shut It Down, and Phynx, both musicians, all spoke at McKean High in Wilmington. The auditorium was full of young people of all hues for a live panel presented as a partnership between the Red Clay Consolidated School District, the Concert Crew Podcast, the Delaware Humanities and Born4Brothers, a youth program at McKean. Carl Chancy of the Concert Crew served as the moderator.

Last month, Creekmur announced that he would be increasing his involvement with Raising Kings, which is now in its 10th year.

Going forward, we are re-committed to raising the next generation of leaders with ancestral guides like Martin, Malcolm, Rosa, Harriet, Medgar, Coretta and so many more employing progressive tactics. And we’ll do it without shame or fear.

iamCompton Unveils “TALK OF LA” Visual — Same Evening As ‘Black Ink Crew: Compton’ Premiere on VH1

iamCompton is exactly what his name embodies: born and raised in the streets of East Compton, Ca. While you may recognize his face for being the lead visionary for Compton’s very first tattoo shop on VH1’s television series

Black Ink Crew: Compton, real name Danny “KP” Kirkpatrick is actually far more than just a tattoo artist — he’s a HipHop Artist with something to say.

Now, he returns with his newest release, a loosie freestyle titled “TALK OF LA” which released the same evening as the premiere of Season 2’s Black Ink Crew: Compton. The record itself was inspired by the late great Chick Hearn, who’s known for his commentary and clever words as a live broadcaster for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Compton states: “I’m getting better at this… man fucc what you heard, I’m the Talk Of LA. Rest In peace Chick Hearn.”

Born and bred from the streets of Compton, enters “iamCompton” — a Hip Hop artist with the love of Ink, Art, and Music, with the hustle of Compton running through his veins.

iamCompton who was born Danny Kirkpatrick grew up on the Eastside of Compton from Rosecrans to Alondra, the same streets that lyrical legends Dr.Dre and Eazy-E rapped about and once ran. At an early age, Kirkpatrick discovered his passion for music through experience. It was after he had lost everything that he was able to create a different type of energy — and music helped him find his place.

It wasn’t until 2005 that the rapper discovered his talent and began to express himself through music and art. Blessed with the skill of drawing, Compton started doing tattoos. He already knew how to draw, so he figured it would be a great side hustle. That same hustle enabled him to excel and gave him the opportunity to tattoo celebrities like Diddy, Nas, Rick Ross, Dwayne Wade, Travis Scott and Lil Uzi… just to name a few.

Now, iamCompton is the owner of the first ever tattoo shop in Compton and is the face of Black Ink Crew: Compton! iamCompton definitely is no stranger to the game and is now ready to share his talent with the world!

Pete Davidson Deletes His Instagram Account Amid Kanye West Drama

Pete Davidson’s return to Instagram didn’t last long.

After rejoining Instagram last week, Pete Davidson deleted his account on Wednesday (February 23). The Saturday Night Live star left the social media platform a day after Kanye West premiered a song featuring another shot at the comedian.

Kanye West referenced his ongoing drama with Pete Davidson and estranged wife Kim Kardashian on a track titled “Security.” The song debuted at a Donda 2 listening event on Tuesday (February 22).

“Never stand between a man and his kids/Y’all ain’t got enough security for this,” Kanye West raps on the song.

Pete Davidson only shared one post during his time back on Instagram. But some observers have speculated he subtly dissed Kanye West in the bio section of his account.

While the account was still active, the comic’s bio linked to a YouTube video of a scene from Martin Scorsese’s movie The King of Comedy. The clip featured Robert De Niro’s character Rupert Pupkin delivering one of the film’s most memorable lines.

“Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime,” Pupkin declares.

Pete Davidson is currently in a relationship with Kim Kardashian, who filed to divorce Kanye West in February 2021. ‘Ye has repeatedly threatened the comedian since the couple began dating.
