All Hell Breaks Loose Between Cardi B & JT On Twitter

Cardi B and JT unexpectedly started beefing on Monday (October 3).

The feud began over an alleged snub on Twitter. JT congratulated GloRilla on the success of the “Tomorrow 2” single but left Cardi B’s name out of the post.

Cardi B took offense and subtweeted the City Girls member.

“Lapdog,” she wrote. “Go fetch.”

JT fired back, “Cardi you go fetch a real talent! We DM’ing why you come back here to put on a show for these KIDS?”

The City Girls member denied being an instigator and blamed fan pages for causing trouble. But Cardi B was unconvinced.

“So wait, me and you talking in the DM woman to woman, but YOU take it to your timeline and throw shots calling me a bully and a wiener,” she wrote. “Why you playing dumb? And YOU talking about a talent?! haaaaa! You forgot P tried to put me on wit your writer?”

JT responded, “That was BEFORE you replied!!!! & said you was talking about ME! So tell the world why you said I’m a lap dog cardi! No you wanted our written!!! For our hooks for our sound cause you clearly have none! Ask ANY writer! I write my OWN s###!!! You know this.”

Cardi B claimed she was stopping the back-and-forth in public, but the two women kept clashing on Twitter.

“I definitely didn’t,” she wrote, comparing her City Girls collab “Twerk” to the duo’s other songs. “P wanted to put me in to your writers cause yall numbers make him penies ……My talent speaks for it self tho.”

JT replied, “Cardi please I’m not impressed I don’t care I’m not bout to beef with you about YouTube girl is crazy? I’m a street b#### YouTube ain’t got me on no leash hoe, move.”

The rappers were apparently having a private conversation too, but the miscommunication didn’t stop.

“Didn’t I hit you back in the DM 20 minutes ago but I gotta come on the timeline for a response?” Cardi B asked. “And you’re mute but steady arguing here. Like I said, this s### is for show. OPPORTUNISTS.”

JT wrote, “Maybe both our timing off, but how am I an opportunist you called me a lapdog for no f###### reason make since! But back to the dm’s I go.”

The bickering continued with Cardi B declaring, “If the shoe fits that’s your fault.” JT also circled back to an earlier post amid all the insults.

“Wait I’m back for this last tweet cause who doing anything for doggy treats??” she asked. “If anything glorilla have you a BONE that you need to go feed to that dog you was posing by the pool with for hot s###! Fancy pants.”

Cardi B countered, “Hot s### debuted higher than any song you ever dropped or been on, prison pants. Everybody has good and bad moments but you haven’t had one since what? ACT UP?”

The discussion of hits apparently struck a nerve with JT. She stopped the disses and reflected on her career.

“The industry not even designed for girls like me to really win!” JT wrote. “Let’s be real all this s### is politics!!! Pee always told us get that s### out the MUD grind hard I lay down because I get discouraged from all these labels paying for every mother f###### thing.”

She concluded, “So don’t talk to me about no charts! NONE OF YALL! I done been in rooms with the top [writers] & told them they s### wack the same [writers] that quick to drag female rappers oh I wrote this & that! This s### actually embarrassing & Sad.”

Russ Illustrates Why DaBaby Isn’t Being Blackballed

Russ doesn’t believe a famous artist like DaBaby can be blackballed.

DaBaby claimed he’s being blackballed based on the underwhelming sales of his Baby on Baby 2 album. Russ explained why he disagreed in a Twitter post on Monday (October 3).

“No artist is ‘blackballed,’” Russ wrote. “Unless they cut off your Wi-Fi, remove your social media accounts and take your music off all the streaming platforms, you are not blackballed.”

He continued, “If you are famous and can still tell your fans ‘hey I’m putting out music’ then you’re not blackballed. Fans will listen to your music or they won’t. It’s that simple. Also if you are a famous artist and you NEED playlists in order for people to listen to your music, how real are your fans? Why don’t they support you regardless?”

Russ didn’t mention DaBaby by name. The independent rapper downplayed playlists while championing the importance of a loyal fan base.

“We’re giving too much credit and power to the DSPs and not enough power to us (the artists) and the fans,” Russ wrote. “I know for me, as long as I can tell my fans I’m puttin out music, I’m straight. I’m not entitled to any playlists nor do I NEED them for my fans to listen to me. That’s why they’re my….FANS.”

EXCLUSIVE: Read Young Thug’s Questions To Potential Jurors In RICO Case

Young Thug submitted his juror questionnaire in the RICO case against YSL members.

According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, Young Thug’s legal team wanted to learn the jury’s views on Hip Hop. Lawyers asked potential jurors about their listening habits and perceptions of rappers.

“Do you associate Hip Hop artists/rappers with criminal behavior or believe they break the law more than average citizens?” attorneys inquired. “Do you believe rap lyrics are usually autobiographical (the songwriter is telling stories about his/her real life)?”

One question read, “Some people believe that artists who perform rap music, including ‘gangsta rap,’ may commit crimes or violent acts to enhance their image or promote their career. What do you think?”

Young Thug’s lawyers asked potential jurors about their experiences with crime. Prospective jury members were questioned if they’d been victims of a crime or arrested in the past.

“Have you known anyone who has been murdered or died as a result of a crime?” one question read.

The questionnaire covered gang activity and tattoos as well.

“Do you have any specialized training or education about criminal street gangs, including how they operate and how people join, are recruited, or are pressured or threatened to join?” Young Thug’s lawyers asked.

Another question read, “Would the fact that a defendant or witness has extensive tattoos, including on the face, cause you to reject or disbelieve that person?”

Young Thug’s legal team also addressed the high-profile nature of their client’s case. Prospective jurors were asked to reveal their opinions on the case and how closely they followed it.

“This case has received some publicity in the media and on social media,” Young Thug’s lawyers wrote. “There is nothing wrong with having read, seen or heard something about the case. However, we need to know what, if anything, you have read, seen or heard.”

Additional questions sought to understand the potential jury’s thoughts on the criminal justice system. They were asked about their opinions of prosecutors, defense attorneys and more.

“Plea bargaining – the prosecution offering individuals charged with crimes favorable treatment or a lower sentence in exchange for information and/or testimony against others — is legal,” Young Thug’s lawyers wrote. “How do you feel about the prosecution offering individuals who participated in crimes, plea agreements in exchange for their testimony in court against the defendants in this case?”

Young Thug was arrested on RICO charges in May. His trial is scheduled to begin in January 2023.

Currently based in Brisbane, the rising star reveals the inspiration behind the song was a tumultuous relationship that didn’t have a clear end, as he fantasizes about turning back time and removing the mistakes.

“Start Over” is paired with an official visualizer, as Trey Bond is heard laying his smooth, sultry vocals over the beat. Newly signed to Def Jam, Trey has come a long way since releasing demos on SoundCloud, and he’s ready to showcase his cutting-edge R&B sound for audiences all around the world.

Speaking on the making of “Start Over,” Trey states, “I tend to not write things down and instead freestyle until I find the right words to get my story across. For ‘Start Over,’ I just let it all spill out over the guitars, and that’s what really gives it its authenticity.”

After the song was made, Trey’s team connected him to 6LACK, who cut his verse in just a few days. Trey adds, “I knew he’d be perfect for this one.”

Toronto’s Chiinabets Releases Debut EP

Toronto underground artist Emad Popal pka Chiinabets, releases debut EP, “You Got 1 Life,” following a double single release to lead in the project. Chiinabets, one of Toronto’s new underground rappers decided to bring his craft to the mainstream with a double single release in August as a warm-up to this EP. Standout single “Trees,” saw Chiinabets team up with another area favorite Young Smoke on the single “Trees.”

While Chiinabets has been honing his skills on the underground, his growing fanbase has been calling for him to take an active role as a representative for one of the top Hip Hop markets in North America. The word is that he’s on the grind for a full-length offering in 2023 which should please his fans.

BLACKPINK’s Gets Police To Investigate “Illegal” Distribution Of Jennie’s Photos And Salacious Rumors

BLACKPINK’s agency has asked the police in South Korea to investigate those who leaked band member Jennie’s personal photos online.

YG Entertainment, the K-pop group’s agency, released a statement on Monday revealing that they have enlisted the help of police to find those responsible for leaking private photos that have fuelled speculation Jennie is dating V from BTS.

“The recent mass production of rumors, accusations, personal attacks, sexual harassment, and invasion of privacy sparked by the personal photos have been occurring indiscriminately, so we felt a sense of responsibility, making it difficult for us to overlook this any longer,” they wrote. “YG is taking strong legal action against posts that are tarnishing the character and reputation of our agency’s artist.”

YG reps explained that they had filed a complaint for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, violation of the prohibition of illegal information distribution, and obscene use of communication media.

They added, “(The) photos that were circulated online were illegally released, regardless of the intentions behind them, and without the consent of the individual involved.”

YG officials plan on taking “all possible legal action without any leniency to prevent further damage in the future” and asked fans to refrain from sharing the pictures, noting that it is an offense to do so.

They did not confirm which snaps they were referring to. However, several photos shared online appeared to show the South Korean pop stars dining together.

According to the BBC, two accounts connected with sharing the images have been suspended.

YG’s statement comes days after BTS’ label, Big Hit Entertainment, announced on Thursday that they had filed a criminal complaint against an unidentified individual who has been spreading “false information” and “the same ill-intentioned rumor” on multiple platforms. They did not share details about the posts.

Kanye West stirred up more controversy by wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt.

‘Ye debuted the outfit at his Yeezy Season 9 show at Paris Fashion Week on Monday (October 3). Photos of Kanye West in the “White Lives Matter” shirt surfaced online, sparking heated debates on social media.

Right-wing pundit Candace Owens, who ‘Ye praised in the past, also wore the “White Lives Matter” shirt. She posed with Kanye West, sharing a photo of the two on her Twitter account.

“White Lives Matter” became a racist slogan used in response to the “Black Lives Matter” movement. Boosie Badazz was among the many people outraged by Kanye West’s use of the phrase.

“@kanyewest AFTER ALL WE BEEN THROUGH AS A RACE YOU PUT THIS DISRESPECTFUL S### ON!” Boosie wrote on Twitter. “U GIVES NO F#### ABOUT HOW BLACKS HAVE DIED N SUFFERED TO THE HANDS OF THE WHITE MAN. N U SAY BUSH DONT LIKE BLACK PEOPLE.. REALLY ‘N####.’”

Prince Estate Says Sinead O’Connor Didn’t Deserve To Use Her Biggest Hit In Documentary So The Blocked Her

Prince’s estate refused to allow Sinead O’Connor the use of “Nothing Compares 2 U” in her new documentary.

While making the Irish singer’s upcoming documentary “Nothing Compares,” the team behind the film asked Prince’s estate for permission to use the song “Nothing Compares 2 U” in it.

Prince originally wrote “Nothing Compares 2 U” for his 1985 album with The Family, and O’Connor famously recorded a cover of it in 1989.

When “Nothing Compares” filmmakers asked Prince’s estate whether they could use the song in their documentary, the estate denied the request.

“Initially, we had intended to use the song, but we received a refusal,” director Kathryn Ferguson told Billboard. “In the end, we were very happy with that section of the film. It meant the focus remained on Sinead’s words, and on her own songwriting.”

Prince’s half-sister – co-heir to the estate – Sharon Nelson explained why they denied Ferguson use of the song.

“Nothing compares to Prince’s live version with Rosie Gaines that is featured on the Hits 1 album and we are re-releasing that album on vinyl on November 4th,” she said. “I didn’t feel (Sinead) deserved to use the song my brother wrote in her documentary, so we declined. His version is the best.”

Prince died in 2016. The video for Sinead’s version of the song has almost a half-a-billion views on YouTube alone.

Professor Fired Over Debate On N-Word And Hip-Hop; Says Institution Is Too “Woke”

That’s what the administration at George Washington University said to human rights professor who led a passionate discussion about the N-word with students, saying the word should be banned from rap music.

Professor Michael Stoil, a 72-year-old white man, was fired after students complained about his alleged use of the word in a discussion with the school’s vice provost. 

According to the Daily Mail, this telephone conversation is at the core of the controversy. 

Stoil told the students about the call and said he used the word to show why it should not be used.

Students have since filed three racial bias reports against Stoil for comments he made about using the n-word in a September class.

While he insists he didn’t use it during class and believes it should not be used by anyone, he said that they should be offended even when it is used in Hip-Hop.

After the hoopla, Stoil accepted the school’s decision to dismiss him from teaching the human rights course but later resigned because he did not like that no one cleared the air that he did not use the word outside of a protest context.

“I do not plan to return to GW in the spring semester of 2023 because I disagree with the decisions of the officials who allowed misinformation to spread unchecked and did not defend their employee’s reputation,” he said.

He told the outlet, “My conversation with the Vice Provost addressed this,’ Stoil said, describing the conversation he had with a GW administrator which he told his class about. ‘My mother, who is white, was shocked when her best friend–an African-American woman from Detroit–referred to her as a ‘silly n…’ 45 years ago.”

“I was explaining my commitment, and that of my family, to opposition to ethnic slurs, even when in this case it was voiced as a colloquialism by an African-American woman,” Stoil continued.

“To my great shock, the Vice Provost said that she was physically affected by my use of the word to illustrate an example in an intellectual conversation that we were having over the telephone,” the teacher said. 

“In response, I told her that I would never use the word again even in an intellectual conversation about the effects of hate speech, and I have kept that promise. That was the incident that I related in class.”

Stoil remarked, “I also suspect that my age and years of teaching in truly multiethnic institutions have made me too divorced from current cultural norms in the US to teach such a sensitive topic as human rights.”

One argument from the classroom about rap music also put a nail in his coffin.

“I used the n-word, and she was horrified,” Stoil said in his classroom. “She says ‘Oh my God, I felt that viscerally. It ran right through me, you used the n-word.’ I said ‘You don’t listen to Hip-Hop? You don’t listen to some of the street music? They use it all the time.”

“Yeah, but they’re Black people,” a student responded.

“Ok, I’m Eurasian,” Stoil said. “Where do I fit in? Can we use it too?”

“No,” students replied.

“You’re right, but the point is I didn’t imagine that she would feel pain from the use of the n-word simply because, by the way, she didn’t know what color I was,” Stoil said. “This was on the telephone. I guess I don’t sound Black.”

Then he asked, “Does Barack Obama sound Black?”

Needless to say, the conversation did not go well.

Post Malone Says Newborn Baby Daughter Likes His Music

Post Malone has insisted his baby daughter is “way cooler” than him.

In June, the “Circles” rapper announced that he and his fiancée had welcomed a daughter.

Post, real name Austin Post, has not yet shared any details about his partner or their first child, but during a recent interview with GQ, he indicated that he is loving fatherhood.

“She’s so cool. She’s way cooler than me but she definitely took a little inspiration from me… She’s huge, she’s super tall, and she’s such a legend,” he told the outlet, before noting that he misses her when he’s away performing gigs on his Twelve Carat Tour. “It’s really tough not being able to see her, but she’s coming out more often now. But it is heartbreaking having to leave and not be able to be with her all the time.”

But while Post is enjoying being a parent, he isn’t sure if his daughter likes his music yet.

“She hasn’t cried whenever I put my music on so far, which I think is a good sign, but we’ll wait and find out. I got to let her decide. I tried to play her some stuff but I can’t really tell what she’s into right now,” the 27-year-old continued.

“Kids love my music for some reason, which is awesome, so I’m hoping that she just goes with the flow on that one.”

Chrisean Rock And Blueface: Is This The End?

Blueface and his girlfriend Chrisean Rock are over. At least that’s what she’s saying right now. The most toxic relationship in the history of Hip-Hop relationships might just be coming to an end. Rock revealed last night that she almost got locked up because she found out that Blueface was cheating on her again. She jumped on Instagram live and let it be known that she is now single.

She actually took his phone call on IG live and wanted to see if anybody would call him. Nobody did call while she took his phone though. Anyway, she said that she broke all types of things in their hotel room, including the television and window, forcing him to go to another hotel completely. The mother of his two children seems to be the main person in question that Chrisean has issues with. However, there is a picture of another woman and that seem to be the breaking point for her. She basically said, “You can have him.“ I don’t necessarily believe her, but that’s what it is right now.

Now, Blueface is saying a slightly different tune. He saying that he’s never been single and actually always keeps a couple of girls. So, he really doesn’t care about her like that. Anyway, I do hope this is over, because he beat up her father and she was beating him up and they were fighting each other. It’s crazy!

Rich Boy Gets Arrested And Sparks Concern

Rapper Rich Boy, the Mobile, AL who put out “Throw Some D’s,” was locked up in jail over the first weekend in October.

However, while local law enforcement has the artist, whose real name is Marece Benjamin Richards, incarcerated, many in the community are concerned about his mental health, according to AL.com.

Jail logs report that he was booked on Friday, Sept. 30 on two third-degree domestic violence charges (harassment and assault).

According to reports, he got into a fight with his own parents.

A video of the confrontation shows him looking unkept, making people suspect something crazy is going on.

Elric Jerel Simon said, “It’s crazy … when you up [people] be quiet as a mouse. But any sign of you being down or in a different space, your name is going to ring like a church bell. Prayers up and love to my bro Rich.”

After he was arrested, rapper Bianca Clarke posted on social media, saying, “Sending love to our hometown hero!”

Another fan wrote, “I love Rich Boy! He was always so nice when he came to visit LeFlore my freshman year and when he came in to eat at Wintzells. I pray that he gets the help he needs. There’s nothing funny about it.”

The artist has had a history of troubled times with the law dating back to 2005, a year after his hit song “Throw Some D’s” made the top ten on Billboard.

Tory Lanez Sued In Hit-And-Run Accident Involving A Pregnant Woman

Canadian music artist Tory Lanez is again back in the news, this time for a New Year’s Day hit-and-run car accident, where the alleged victims claim the “Say It” artist is liable for their injuries.

TMZ reports a lawsuit against the chart-topper by a couple, Krisha and Jesse Grullon, who says the artist hit them on January 1st, 2021, in Miami, FL, and left the scene of the sideswipe without even checking in on them.

This is especially disturbing as Krisha was 4 months pregnant at the time.

The couple allegedly got off a highway and were stopped at a red light near the end of the off-ramp. 

Seconds after they were parked, Tory Lanez’s green Bentley SUV is said to have come out of nowhere and hit their car on the rear left side.

The couple wants to have Tory Lanez sit for a deposition by the top of 2023, adding that the rapper/ singer did not respond to their claim in the last 45 days to say whether or not he was the one that crashed into them.

This comes days after he dropped a new album featuring 20-tracks that is called, Sorry 4 What.

Maybe this is his answer for Megan Thee Stallion, August Alsina, and the other problems folk have with him.

Kanye West Stuns Fashion World With Outfit At Balenciaga Runway Show

Kanye West made his runway debut during the Balenciaga show over the weekend.

The “Stronger” rapper opened the apocalypse-themed presentation staged at the Parc des Expositions as part of Paris Fashion Week on Saturday.

Kanye wore a military-style jacket and black leather trousers, with the look accessorized with gloves and boots, as he walked down the muddy set designed by conceptual artist Santiago Sierra.

While the star has not yet directly discussed his modeling gig, he took to his Instagram Stories shortly after to share a message sent to him by fashion icon Betsey Johnson.

“I felt a little bit emotional when you walked. It felt really special,” she wrote, to which he replied, “After all the battles. Even this year. Pretty amazing. I’m emotional too. We have more battles ahead of us. But we’re going to win God is on our side.”

Kanye’s four children, North, nine, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Kardashian, were reportedly in the audience, as were Kylie Jenner, Doja Cat, and Alexa Demie.

And as for the bold theme, Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia explained that the backdrop was “a metaphor for digging for truth and being down to earth.”

“I’ve decided to no longer explain my collections and verbalize my designs, but to express a state of mind,” he mused in the press notes. “Fashion is a visual art and all we need is for it to be seen through someone’s eyes.”

Snoop Dogg Says New Death Row Will Bring Great Music, Quality, Love & New Opportunities

Snoop Dogg and Paramount + recently hosted a private red carpet screening for the Sanaa Lathan-directed film ‘On The Come Up’ in Inglewood California.

The event was quite an experience as it featured food trucks, an immaculate concessions area, a bar, a DJ, and Snoop’s vintage cars for guests to sit and watch the movie “drive-in” style. 

The film masterfully tells the story of Bri, a gifted 16-year-old rapper, who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father – a local Hip Hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence.

The film features actors and actresses Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Sanaa Lathan, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Mike Epps, Lil Yachty, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Justin Martin, Titus Makin, Michael Cooper Jr., GaTa, and newcomer Jamila C. Gray. 

AllHipHop’s Rea Davis caught up with Snoop Dogg to discuss the new Death Row Records, the film, Snoop’s Instagram, as well as his bucket list-styled life experiences.

AllHipHop: What can we expect from the new Death Row?

Snoop Dogg: Good music, quality, love, respect. Just great things. We just plan to keep doing what we’ve been doing and providing opportunities, and then providing great music and great visual pieces for people to enjoy. 

AllHipHop: Who are your “Top 5” favorite rappers dead or alive?

Snoop Dogg: I don’t have none. I love everybody. When I start doing that I make people mad when I start saying Top 5 and be leaving n****s out, so I’m good. 

AllHipHop: Of course you’ve seen the film, what can we expect from the film, ‘On The Come Up?”

AllHipHop: So Snoop, how do you decide what you want to try? I feel like Snoop has done everything. You have tried, dabbled in, experienced everything.

Kim Kardashian Banned From Promoting Crypto; Hit With Huge Fine

Kim Kardashian has agreed to pay $1.26 million to settle charges brought against her for touting cryptocurrency on social media.

Executives at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced on Monday that they had charged the reality star for touting EMAX tokens on Instagram and failing to disclose that she was paid for the promotion.

In June 2021, Kim promoted EMAX tokens, the crypto asset security being offered by EthereumMax, alongside a link to the company’s website and did not disclose that she was paid $250,000 for her post – a violation of federal securities laws.

Without admitting or denying the SEC’s findings, Kim has agreed to pay $1.26 million to settle the charges, cooperate with SEC’s ongoing investigation, and not promote any crypto asset securities for three years.

“This case is a reminder that, when celebrities or influencers endorse investment opportunities, including crypto asset securities, it doesn’t mean that those investment products are right for all investors,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler in a statement. “We encourage investors to consider an investment’s potential risks and opportunities in light of their own financial goals.

“Ms. Kardashian’s case also serves as a reminder to celebrities and others that the law requires them to disclose to the public when and how much they are paid to promote investing in securities.”

The $1.26 million payment includes a $1 million penalty and $260,000 in disgorgement plus interest.

In her original post, the 41-year-old wrote, “ARE YOU INTO CRYPTO??? THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE BUT SHARING WHAT MY FRIENDS JUST TOLD ME ABOUT THE ETHEREUM MAX TOKEN.”

Kim, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and former basketball player Paul Pierce were sued earlier this year by investors over their promotional posts for EthereumMax.

They were accused of artificially inflating the value of the asset.

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi & Jessica Williams Discuss the Black Love Story That is ‘Entergalactic’

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi and Kenya Barris have joined forces to bring audiences the unique Netflix television event ‘Entergalactic.’

The original, animated story chronicles young Black love as both Jabari (voiced by Mescudi) and Meadow (voiced by Jessica Williams) both attempt to balance love and success as they fall for each other as new neighbors.

The Netflix feature is certainly an explosion of art, music and fashion with a backdrop of New York City.

‘Entergalactic’ also boasts an all-star cast including Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Teyana Taylor, Arturo Castro and Macaulay Culkin.

AllHipHop’s Rea Davis caught up with Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi and Jessica Williams to discuss the importance of an animated Black love story.

AllHipHop: Scott, why was it important for you to tell a story that chronicles love, music, fashion and art  with the backdrop of New York City?

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi: Man I felt like you know I need to do something innovative and new with “Entergalactic,” my new album because I was in the place where I was kind of bored of the same thing of just releasing an album dropping two music videos and that be it. You know I wanted something a little bit bigger. I wanted a whole event behind it, and um you know it was important to just like kind of bring something that had never been done before. Um and you know for the kid that’s like 7 years old who’s going to like see these trailers and be like oh I’ve never seen animation like that and you know and get inspired and see the freshness and be like, “Ah man those are cool shoes.” Like these are things that like the culture needs. We gotta keep feeding the culture in this way you know. To have like Virgil be the costume designer and have him involved makes it’s a little more special you know. 

AllHipHop: Jessica what was it like getting into character for Meadow. She’s like the it girl. She’s really cool and well-rounded. 

Jessica Williams: Oh my God. Thank you. I appreciate that. Um, she is the it-girl, and I do appreciate that. For her, I think it’s animated so it was something that you know I just kind of had to trust would come together in the end, which I think it did really well. I think my job was to basically show up for her and act and do things the way that I felt instinctually she would respond to things while also honoring the script and bouncing off of Scott’s performance as well. Um so it was kind of a dance. Then the animation studios sort of rendered the characters all based on our expressions, so a lot of times we would be recording, and for me, they would have a camera on my face to kind of record like my reactions and stuff. So it was this really cool interesting experience where I was voice acting but also just acting with my chest, like just acting as well with my face, which was a really a cool experience because I’ve probably acted more than recording animation.

AllHipHop: This is a romantic story, so do you feel like you pushed any boundaries with this, and the second question is who are your “Top 5” favorite rappers dead or alive?”

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi: One of the things that you know was important for me is to tell a Black love story, and that’s something that we don’t really see that often animated or live action in the movies or TV, so that was really like the main goal like for me, and this rapper thing, can we give you 3?………. Tupac, Jay-Z and Missy Elliott.

Jessica Williams: I’m going to go with Missy Elliott, Jay-Z and Tupac.

James Madison’s Estate Invites Lizzo To Play Ex-Prez’s Flute At Plantation Site

Lizzo became public enemy #1 for many conservatives in recent days. The R&B/Pop musician playing former President James Madison’s crystal flute triggered numerous right-wing pundits.

Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden encouraged Lizzo to use the historic instrument during her concert in Washington, DC. That on-stage moment went viral as supporters cheered the classically-trained flutist, while critics slammed the performance.

“This Lizzo-flute controversy is a perfect example of what I have termed Face Tattoo Phenomenon™: the phenomenon whereby someone does something deliberately controversial in an attempt to draw attention, and then acts offended when you notice,” tweeted political commentator Ben Shapiro.

The following day, Carla Hayden tweeted, “[Lizzo] is not the first musician (and she won’t be the last) to play instruments at [The Library of Congress]. Gershwin honorees [Smokey Robinson] and [Lionel Richie] have played on the Gershwin piano and Yo-Yo Ma played the Stradivari cello.”

Apparently, The Montpelier Foundation falls into the supporter category. TMZ reportedly spoke to someone associated with the Madison family’s Montpelier estate in Virginia, and they want Lizzo to visit the location and possibly play the 200-year-old flute at the site.

Montpelier was the official home of James Madison and his wife Dolley Madison. At one point during their time at the residence, the Madisons owned at least 100 enslaved African-Americans. James Madison also brought some of his slaves to the White House during his presidency from 1809 to 1817, according to historians.

Lizzo is currently traveling the continent for The Special Tour with opening acts Latto and Saucy Santana. The North American leg kicked off in Florida last month. Lizzo released her fourth studio album, Special, in July.

Special hosts the “About Damn Time” single which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lizzo presently has two Number Ones in her career. Her hit “Truth Hurts” topped the Hot 100 in 2019.

Mike Epps Shares His Top 5 DOA & Says ‘On The Come Up’ is Great For the Culture

Snoop Dogg and Paramount + recently hosted a private red carpet screening for the Sanaa Lathan-directed film ‘On The Come Up’ in Inglewood, California.

Based on the New York Times #1 best-selling novel by Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give), ‘On The Come Up’ is a feature directorial debut for Emmy-nominated actress Sanaa Lathan.

The film masterfully tells the story of Bri, a gifted 16-year-old rapper, who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father – a local Hip Hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence.

AllHipHop’s Rea Davis caught up with Mike Epps, who stars as DJ Hype, to discuss the film, his Top 5 favorite rappers, and what rapper he would trade careers with for a week.

AllHipHop: If you could trade places with a rapper for one week, which rapper would you choose to trade careers with?

Mike Epps: Snoop Doggy Dogg.

AllHipHop: Who are your “Top 5” favorite rappers dead or alive?

Mike Epps: I love all of them……Tupac, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Biggie Smalls.

AllHipHop: What can we expect from ‘On The Come Up?’

Mike Epps: ‘On The Come Up’ is a nice film for the kids. It’s got a nice message, and I think they are going to enjoy it. It’s great for the culture.
