“It’s important for me to incorporate Yoruba into my music,” Shaybo told MTV earlier this year. “Because as an authentic artist I wanna kind of speak on my experiences and how I’ve been raised and stuff like that.”

She continued, “I know there’s such a huge Nigerian community and you know, a lot of people that can relate to the things that I speak about, especially coming from South London. So I just try to be true to myself and kind of involve who I am as a person and what I’ve come from, and my culture in my music.”

Lil Nas X To Be Honored By Songwriters Hall of Fame

Lil Nas X is being honored at the 51st annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala next month.

Lil Nas had a typically tongue-in-cheek response to the honor. “‘Shoot a child in your mouth while i’m riding’” finally getting its recognition,” he tweeted.

SHOF chair Nile Rodgers commented, “Lil Nas X is someone we are very proud to award the Hal David Starlight Award to. He has perhaps better than anyone demonstrated how powerful great songs are, with ‘Old Town Road’ and ‘Montero’ dominating the charts for almost every day of the last three years. If you’re lucky enough to be alive at this time, you know exactly who Lil Nas X is and he’s an incredible and inspirational person for every one of his communities as well.”

He is certainly worthy of joining the esteemed list of past Starlight Award honorees.”

Lil Nas X joins previous honorees, including Drake, John Legend, and Alicia Keys among others. Pharrell Williams, Mariah Carey, and The Isley Brothers will also be honored at this year’s ceremony.

Steven Ridzyowski: The Rising Pop Star Making Chicago Proud

At only 21, Steven Ridzyowski is a rising pop star quickly becoming Chicago’s favorite son. To many fans, he is the face behind the hit singles “Sail” and “Song for You,” which have attracted thousands of listeners throughout the world. However, Ridzyowski’s journey began much earlier, when the artist was just three years old. It was love at first sight when Ridzyowski met music, and he has been passionate about it ever since. Despite facing many challenges along the way, he has remained ambitious, consistent, and focused on making it to the top. Today he’s one of the fastest-rising artists in Chicago, a dream he never thought would come true.

Steven Ridzyowski’s music education began with playing drums and singing at church before picking up the guitar in high school. Though singing came naturally to him, he thought of it more as a hobby than a career choice. However, as Ridzyowski grew older, he discovered his love for music was greater than anything else he had ever done. “I found that when I sang or played guitar on stage, my mind would go silent and nothing else seemed to matter,” he says. The desire to capture that feeling led Ridzyowski to the music industry immediately after graduating from high school three years ago.

Over the next few months, Ridzyowski spent his evenings performing at clubs and venues in Chicago. His performances did well, but he was not getting any major recognition. That changed one night when the artist booked for one venue failed to show up, and the management requested Ridzyowski to perform in his place. Unbeknownst to Ridzyowski, his friend was shooting a video and streaming it live. The next day, Ridzyowski woke up to hundreds of tags and mentions on his socials from people he didn’t know. By the end of the week, the video made its way onto YouTube, where it received over 200,000 views.

With this newfound audience, Ridzyowski’s confidence soared, and he made more music. His original single “Catch Me When I Fall” was a tremendous success with thousands of views and streams on YouTube and Spotify. Most of his followers on social media praised his songwriting, with many claiming that the lyrics resonated with them deeply. Ridzyowski says the feedback and energy from the audience are some of the reasons he loves performing so much.

“I love being able to share my music on social media platforms,” he says. “It’s a great way for me to interact with my fans one-on-one.” And it shows. Steven Ridzyowski has over 250,000 followers and counting on different platforms. During the pandemic, Ridzyowski used these platforms to entertain and encourage his followers every week through musical performances. Now, with the world getting back to normal, he’s itching to get back on stage to perform live.

Two months ago, Steven Ridzyowski announced he would be collaborating with two A-list artists on their upcoming projects. There are rumors that Ridzyowski will be a songwriter on Ariana Grande’s album, but he’s yet to confirm that. What he has confirmed is the release of a new album, A Whole New You, which will drop in mid-May. Ridzyowski says the album is inspired by love, loss, and new dreams as he enters the next phase of his life.

Chuck Smith’s Groovy Music Is the Perfect Response to Today’s World

In today’s world, there is a lot of uncertainty and fear. That feeling is amplified when people turn on the news or read the headlines online. To help us deal with all this, we need more music that deals with these emotions in a lighthearted way. Enter Chuck Smith, aka Stray Deuce Music, a legendary singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles who delivers just that. Chuck has been writing humorous songs for decades, and his latest songs are no exception. These tracks are humorous, groovy, and timely, reminding the listener there’s still a lot to smile about in these uncertain times.

Chuck has been in the music industry for decades, working alongside some of the most iconic artists of the last generation. A talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Smith has performed and recorded many successful songs under his stage name Stray Deuce. The artist caught his big break 18 months after moving to Los Angeles after a chance meeting with someone who’d just started in the management side of music. With Smith’s talent speaking for itself, it took little to convince his new acquaintance to take a chance on him. They put up the money for Smith to record a four-song demo, which got him a record contract at Motown as an artist and songwriter.

Soon after signing with Motown, Smith wrote a tune the company president chose for Diana Ross. The tune actually became the title track of one of Ross’s albums, Baby It’s Me. Over the years, Smith’s career grew, and he’s worked with other luminaries like Oscar and Grammy winner Paul Williams, smooth jazz legend Lee Ritenour, and Top 40 hitmaker Johnny Rivers, among others. Smith has also played with Willie’s Nerve Clinic, a band he formed with bass icon Dirk Lance, a founding member of the multi-platinum band Incubus.

Besides being an award-winning recording artist and performer, Smith is also an accomplished instructor. He frequently conducts songwriting workshops and has lectured at the San Diego Writers’ Conference and the Learning Annex. Some courses Chuck has taught include the history of rock ‘n’ roll and the evolution of songwriting. A multi-talented instrumentalist, Chuck also conducts one-on-one classes where he teaches guitar, bass, vocals, and songwriting.

Smith has coached singers for different contests like the American Idol tryouts. Some of his former students have also signed major record label deals. These include members of Incubus, the million-selling modern rock band; the singer of the Facebook dance-rap sensation Hyper-Crush; and playing the prestigious Hotel Cafe tour. Chuck has prepared many students for TV and movie auditions and school dramas and musicals. One guitar student he taught throughout high school recently posted an album he did of his original songs named Chuck for Chuck Smith.

Despite being a veteran in the rock music space, Chuck has not lost his creativity or innovation. On the contrary, his peers believe he’s never been better, which is high praise from other legends. Chuck’s latest songs include “Billie Sings” and “Lockdown Daze.” The first is a song tribute to award-winning artist Billie Eilish who Chuck believes is a trendsetter, and the second is his straight-ahead, rock takedown of the pandemic. “Trash Mars” is another original song that uses humor to deal with a pressing world issue. Many fans have loved these songs, which tell stories of hope humorously when the world needs it most.

Master P Declares 5/20 “Cannabis Freedom Day” In Fight To Change Marijuana Laws

Master P discussed his fight for people convicted of low-level marijuana offenses ahead of his benefit concert for Cannabis Freedom Day in Norfolk, Virginia, on Friday (May 20).

“Cannabis Freedom Day is 5/20, we’re celebrating it. We have a concert in Virginia, and it’s all about Cannabis Freedom Day,” he told TMZ. ‘It’s about letting people out of prison that have a small case of marijuana, from $50 to $100 worth of marijuana. These guys shouldn’t be incarcerated.”

The Louisiana native spoke on the state of California letting 60,000 people out of custody and noted his home state “is starting to catch on,” releasing 10,000 people.

However, Master P reflected on the many people who remain “incarcerated, that are away from their family,” and unable to work. “When they do get out, it’s gonna be hard for them to find a job,” he said. “A lot of these mothers and fathers that are incarcerated should be free, so we’re gonna do our part.”

Master P Talks Changing The Game

Master P also discussed his mission to help people with past convictions into the legal cannabis industry. ‘We’re really trying to change the game,” he added. “So now we don’t have to do this illegally, which a lot of people are. It’s definitely going to change the game,” he said.

Last year, Master P spoke to AllHipHop about Cannabis Freedom Day and his plans to turn 5/20 into a national holiday. He also discussed the case of fellow Louisiana native Fate Vincent Winslow, sentenced to life in prison for $20 worth of marijuana. Winslow died in May 2021, months after being released early from incarceration in 2020.

“If you’re a criminal and you commit some serious crimes, you should be incarcerated,” Master P said. “But for $5, $10, $20, even $100 of cannabis you shouldn’t be incarcerated. Hopefully Louisiana is opening up as other states are opening up.”

Master P will bring awareness to Cannabis Freedom Day with his concert on the No Limit Reunion Tour on Friday (May 20). Mystikal, Silkk, Mia X, Fiend, Mr. Serv-on, Choppa Style, Mercedes, and Juvenile will join him on stage.

Singer Robb Maggio’s ‘Forgotten Path’ Continues To Generate Buzz

With music, you get to experience the power of emotion. There’s no one who understands that better than hitmaker ‘Forgotten Path’s Robb Maggio. What started out as a cathartic journey ended up helping millions of listeners across the world. That is the force that Robb Maggio brought along to the world of music.

During a low point, Robb Maggio began to shut people out, allowing nobody to get close enough to offer help or support. But surprisingly, one friend managed to break down those walls. How? With a simple gesture – he put together a “bounce back” mix for Robb Maggio. That is when Robb Maggio saw it all– through music, you can say a million compelling words without saying anything at all. That’s when things became clear. Robb Maggio wanted to help give a voice to those who didn’t have one.

Robb Maggio realized the power one can wield if they have the knack of putting together sound and lyrics that marry well. The realization dawned that the right kind of music gets people talking. The right kind of music gets people thinking. The right kind of music can cause a revolution.

Robb Maggio notes that music carries emotions that we all have buried deep in our hearts but are afraid to show. Through music, our raw emotions come to the surface, helping us communicate more effectively. The times might have changed mixes to playlists, but the response to music remains the same as it was back then – it was and still is a tool of expression.

What we saw through ‘Forgotten Path’ is what Robb Maggio strongly believes in – music means producing sounds and lyrics that can rearrange the listener’s world for the better. There are only a handful of artists that have managed to become such a shining beacon of hope for the music industry. And Robb Maggio’s fans proudly state that their favorite artist occupies a well-deserved place in that coveted list.

Adam Starzzy: “Passion can Help You Love What You Do

When he sits down to make music, Adam Starzzy says that it feels like coming home. Adam Starzzy notes that the high of music production is addictive. When a session nears, sweet tangled-up thoughts flood the mind. Penning them means having those thoughts flow through hands moving feverishly fast, trying to keep up with strings of entangled, abstract words, every one of which is waiting to be unentangled and bled onto paper.

To those other than musical prodigies, this process might seem baffling to the point of crazy or even scary. But to the artist, this is just how genius is born. Every lyric is another lightning bolt of an idea captured at the right moment and, like vibrant paint, splashed onto a canvas to create art that would be admired for decades to come. Marvelling at Adam Starzzy’s music, fans say that Adam Starzzy has a way of speaking directly to each one of them, making them feel seen and heard.

Music is cathartic to not Adam Starzzy’s fans but to all those that listen in. When the ‘When Stars Fall Under the Night Sky’ hitmaker sits down for a production session, it feels like one disappears into another realm entirely. Such is the power of good music, Adam Starzzy points out – it has the potential to transform you and take you places you had never seen. Music elicits strong, often repressed, emotions, Adam Starzzy says. To him, his art acts not just as impetus but also, and more importantly, as an outlet.

Treating music like a first love instead of a highly successful career allows Adam Starzzy to continue creating more hits.  Adam Starzzy says life feels so much sweeter, even at times when it’s hardly so. Even after all the fame and millions of fans, to Adam Starzzy, music is still the tender love he first met at a young age. And if that is what it takes to keep making more hits like the critically-acclaimed hit ‘When Stars Fall Under the Night Sky’, fans are ready to be put in second place on Adam Starzzy’s list of soulmates!

How music has evolved over the decades as per Humza Beats

Since we first started creating and sharing music has it evolved and changed with every passing decade, making it somehow both timeless and ever-changing. With each year that passes we find new ways to create and enjoy music, ensuring that it is always evolving. Musician Humza Beats holds a deep interest in this evolution and here he shares how it has occurred over the decades.

Humza Beats believes that the greatest metamorphosis that music has undergone involves how it’s shared. Record labels were once essential to launch an artist’s career and distribute records, cassettes, and CDs. Humza Beats explains that advancements in audio recording technology and the rise of streaming platforms like Spotify and Soundcloud have transformed the music business.

As it became easier to create and share music worldwide new styles and genres emerged, as artists were no longer hampered by what a record executive deemed to be commodifiable. This evolution continues every day and Humza Beats believes that it gains power with each decade that passes, he says, “Every advancement in technology takes us a step closer to a more inclusive world of music where anyone can create and share their unique sound.”

According to Humza Beats it isn’t just streaming platforms that have helped music to evolve, video sharing platforms like Youtube and more recently TikTok now ignite new music trends every day. From resurrecting long-forgotten songs to showcasing brand new performers, video-sharing platforms have become an essential powerhouse in the music world.

Having held a life-long passion for music Humza Beats shares that he always wanted to be a part of its ever-evolving history. Given his current global following, it’s clear that he has achieved this goal and become a part of music’s decade-spanning evolution.

Music is Like a Refuge; It Frees You from Pain – ‘Empire of Fame’ Hitmaker King Gian Nezi

Over the years, as humanity has come to see itself as a thinking and feeling collective, it has, in some sense, obtained a certain level of sophistication. At first, it might not seem evident with wars, poverty, corruption, and greed gaining center stage in most of what we consume via mass media. But all it takes is a moment of silence to see how far we’ve come from where we started. Music, for instance, is an example of our growth and maturity as a race. Music is like a refuge for musician King Gian Nezi of the ‘Empire of Fame’ song fame that we’ve co-created for our broken hearts.

Music has been with us for a very long time. From simple wood and reed instruments have come far more sophisticated instruments and ways of creating new sounds. Music, as a collective, has grown by leaps and bounds. For King Gian Nezi, one of the primary reasons for this is its ability to alleviate pain. He says, “When I was young, I felt misunderstood, confused, and angry. But I also felt love, passion, and beauty. For the world, I was a kid going through childish emotions.

The music I carried with me helped me express myself to others and, in turn, understand their perspectives. And this feeling of not being lonely and not being mistaken for being childish when you are genuinely confused opened up my heart and lifted my spirits. It helped me understand and deal with the pain that often comes from not being taken seriously. Music helped me grow and slowly come into my own. I owe that sense of growing up to music.”

His personal sense of confusion and lack of direction drove King Gian Nezi to find reconciliatory paths in music. So much so that now he hopes to be that clarion call for young people through the music he makes. King Gian Nezi adds, “I want my music to carry notes of freedom, hope for the future. I want to create music that helps youngsters find themselves.”

According to SZASHA, Music Allows One To Escape Into A World Of Perfection

Music is the soul of the universe, characterized by Plato as a “moral rule,” and each person has their own definition of music based on their own experiences with it. SZASHA believes that music gives life wings. When it comes to music, the only roadblock is your creativity.

SZASHA discovered that music gives wings to the human imagination during her investigation of music as an art form and a component of everyday life. A song’s melody, lyrics, and instruments can be used to create and rebuild scenes. She claims that “music fuels imagination about life and everything around us.”

SZASHA encourages young people to discover their musical inclinations by sharing her passion for the art form. Through music, she encourages them to live and extend their wings. “Music is also a definite way to feel healing,” SZASHA says, nothing that music therapy has been shown to ease stress and improve mood.

Furthermore, music might help to paint a clearer picture of a situation. Music affects so many elements of life, and SZASHA is particularly enthusiastic about the fact of how music affects our brains. “Music helps us express our emotions better and increases our memory and learning,” she explains. When feelings are locked up, they can explode in the wrong way, according to SZASHA; music can help you express yourself creatively and less destructively.

Classical music and its advantages have been studied extensively over the years. Even while the advantages are highlighted, SZASHA advises that everyone work on discovering their unique musical taste. “Find a genre that gives your life wings, and your life will never be the same,” she says.

EXCLUSIVE: Watch T.I. And Kevin Samuels Tribute Clip Of “expediTIously”

Tip “T.I.” Harris is set to release an unreleased tribute edition of his “expediTIously” podcast, exclusively dedicated to the late Kevin Samuels.

The “expediTIously” podcast had been on hiatus up until this point, but the multi-hyphenate entertainer felt the need to release an interview with Kevin Samuels, a self-proclaimed relationship guru.

Kevin Samuels, who captivated audiences, died suddenly earlier this month. The details of his death have yet to be revealed.

However, T.I. has expressed frequently his admiration for Kevin Samuels and has chided people for celebrating his death.

T.I. said, “I can’t stand it. I ain’t gon’ let y’all bully this dead man. We gon’ let this man rest in peace. Whatever he did, he did it, and [he’s] gone. He got away with it. F##k ya. That’s between him and God. Him and the Lord gon’ have to deal with it. You ain’t got no heaven or hell to put him in. So, I wanna see who the f##k wanna say something [to] me while I’m still alive.”

Kevin Samuels was a controversial figure because he often gained notoriety for criticizing or giving his honest, harsh opinion about Black women.

He often gave similar views about men, but those opinions did not make him the viral sensation he was at the time of his death.

AllHipHop has exclusively obtained a clip of this new conversation, which is one that was obviously taped before Samuels’ death. However, they have a frank, honest discussion, where Tip does admit that he does not agree with everything that Samuels had to say.

Music is Like a Refuge for Our Broken Hearts, says ‘Constellation’ Hit Maker, Jackie Diane

Music is like a refuge for Jackie Diane of ‘Constellation’ fame that we’ve co-created for our broken hearts.

Music has been with us for a very long time. From simple wood and reed instruments have come far more sophisticated instruments and ways of creating new sounds. Music, as a collective, has grown by leaps and bounds. For Jackie Diane, one of the primary reasons for this is its ability to alleviate pain. She says, “When I was young, I felt misunderstood, confused, and angry.

Her personal sense of confusion and lack of direction drove Jackie Diane to find reconciliatory paths in music. So much so that now she hopes to be that clarion call for young people through the music she makes. Jackie Diane adds, “I want my music to carry notes of freedom, hope for the future. I want to create music that helps youngsters find themselves.”

Besides stimulating the brain, music also helps develop multiple parts of your brain. Bussin Essen says, “Music is incredibly instrumental in helping you jog your memory. Playing a musical instrument, for instance, can help you improve the power of your mind.” The way Bussin Essen puts it is that you get to experience two blissful benefits through one art form.

Bussin Essen further says that music also helps you recollect and revisit certain moments in your life. “It induces nostalgia and longing, helps preserve memories, and brings back emotions you felt during a certain song.”

  • Music increases physical endurance
