Bow Wow Doubles Down On Saying Jermaine Dupri Did Not Create ‘106 & Park’

BET’s long-running 106 & Park series is back in the news exactly eight years after the program went off the air. An online conversation involving Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow, and Da Brat reignited discussions about the show.

The social media debate over 106 & Park began when Jermaine Dupri claimed responsibility for the formation of the music video show. JD laid out his 106 & Park origin story in a recent interview with The Gauds Show.

106 & Park was created by me. I created the show for Bow Wow,” stated Jermaine Dupri. “I was watching MTV and they had TRL. They catered to *NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and anything White that was coming out that was Pop.”

JD then claimed he called then-BET President Stephen G. Hill to pitch the idea of a countdown-style music program catering to Bow Wow’s fan demographic. However, Bow Wow called a foul on that narrative.

Former BET Executive Stephen Hill Backs Up Bow Wow

On December 18, Bow Wow sent out a tweet disputing the idea that Jermaine Dupri created 106 & Park. After receiving some pushback from social media users, Bow Wow returned to Twitter to double down on his take.

“We live in a weird time when telling the truth is being rude. Or keeping it a buck is disrespectful… You can’t be serious 🤣,” wrote Bow Wow on Monday morning.

The former child star added, “I ain’t even do nothing. 🤣 I said it was a lie. Stephen Hill even came out and said it was a lie. Hahaha how is that rude? Now lying and taking credit is cool? Come on bro 🤣.”

According to reports, Stephen Hill did back up Bow Wow’s recollection of 106 & Park‘s creation. A screenshot from Hill’s Instagram page shows the former President of Programming for BET suggesting Dupri may have presented “a bit of an overstep” in his alleged involvement with the show.

Bow Wow’s Former So So Def Labelmate Da Brat Weighs In On The Situation

Da Brat, a fellow alumnus of Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def record label, chastised Bow Wow for his initial reaction to JD’s comments. In a public Instagram message, the “Funkdafied” hitmaker told Bow Wow to show respect for the person that established his entertainment career.

“Man, [I would] never go [back and forth] with Brat online. She [knows] that. We spoke yesterday,” revealed Bow Wow on Twitter after another user referenced Da Brat’s remarks directed at him.

The 35-year-old rapper/actor also tweeted, “I have the upmost respect for Brat. That’s my word. I would never disrespect her and she knows that. She just taking up for her dawg as she should. She the real day 1. Not me.”

While discovered by Snoop Dogg as a pre-teen, Bow Wow eventually rose to prominence under the musical tutelage of Jermaine Dupri. At 13 years old, Lil Bow Wow released his debut studio album, Beware of Dog, via Dupri’s So So Def. The performer born Shad Moss also served as a 106 & Park host from 2012 to 2014.

SZA’s ‘SOS’ Debuts At No. 1 With Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers

Is SZA the current Queen of R&B? The Top Dawg Entertainment vocalist can put up the first-week sales numbers for her SOS project as proof of her coronation.

SOS opened in the pole position of the latest Billboard 200 weekly chart with 318,000 units. That total was enough to give SZA the first No. 1 album of her career.

In addition, SOS broke the record for the largest streaming week ever for an R&B album. SZA’s 23-track studio LP racked up 404.6 million on-demand streams which is also the third-largest streaming week for 2022.

SOS is now in second place on the list of largest streaming weeks for an album by a female artist as well. Country/Pop superstar Taylor Swift brought in 549.3 million streams earlier this year for her Midnights album.

SZA also found success on the most recent Billboard Hot 100 chart. Twenty-one songs from SOS made it onto this week’s Hot 100. “Kill Bill” led the way by debuting at #3. “Nobody Gets Me” landed in the Top 10 at #10.

Plus, the SOS tracks “Blind,” “Low,” and “Shirt” presently reside in the Hot 100’s Top 20 region. “Kill Bill” also leads the Streaming Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Hot R&B Song charts. This is SZA’s first time topping the Streaming Songs rankings.

SOS follows 2017’s Ctrl which opened at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart by earning 60,000 first-week units. Ctrl has gone on to spend more than 200 weeks on the Billboard 200. SZA’s debut LP also earned 3x-Platinum certification from the RIAA.

Pusha T: Drake’s Subliminal Shots Show Their Beef Still Burns Him

Pusha T versus Drake will go down as one of the most-talked-about feuds in Hip Hop history. While the conflict reached its apex in 2018, both rappers seem to still hold some animosity towards the other four years later.

During a recent interview with XXL, Pusha T spoke about the current state of his rivalry with Drake. The outlet specifically asked Push if he felt claiming a victory over his longtime adversary was a badge of honor.

“Every time I hear a subliminal in one of his songs, it just lets me know how deep it hurt him,” said Pusha T. “Because it’s been four years now. And we still talking about it. He is. I don’t. I’m cool. But every time it’s a subliminal, I’m like, ‘Yes.’ It burns. It still burns. It lets me know. I love it.”

The bad blood between Pusha T and Drake apparently stems from Pusha’s dispute with Drake’s Young Money boss Lil Wayne. The situation came to a head in 2018 when Pusha used his “Infrared” track to reference Drake’s ghostwriting allegations.

Drake then fired back at Pusha T with “Duppy Freestyle” on the same day “Infrared” arrived on the Daytona album. Several days later, Pusha dropped the scathing “The Story of Adidon” which essentially ended that round of the back-and-forth diss records.

Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry Is In Contention For Best Rap Album

Since that time, Pusha T has released another critically acclaimed project. The 45-year-old emcee’s It’s Almost Dry landed on April 22. Pusha’s fourth studio LP debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, his first career Number One.

Additionally, It’s Almost Dry is up for Best Rap Album at the upcoming 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Pusha T is in the same category as DJ Khaled’s God Did, Future’s I Never Liked You, Jack Harlow’s Come Home the Kids Miss You, and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

“I’m trying to win that Grammy, but I’m trying to walk. I want you to see it. People gotta see it. They need to see it. The next generation gotta see it. The streets gotta see it. They gotta understand it. This is all built from y’all. That’s the most important part to me,” Pusha T told XXL.

Pusha T labeled It’s Almost Dry as a “masterpiece.” Even NFL legend Tom Brady called It’s Almost Dry album of the year. The 2022 body of work features Kanye West, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, Don Toliver, Nigo, Labrinth, and Malice.

Stormzy Deactivates Social Media Accounts Again Following World Cup Flight Blunder

After returning to social media earlier this year following a two-year break, Stormzy has again disappeared from Instagram and Twitter.

The South London rapper abruptly ditched his social media account in February 2020, only to return earlier this year in preparation for the rollout of his latest album.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, Stormzy claimed his social media hiatus was a “big lesson” in having to “kill ego.” He also called the departure a “big turning point.”

Since his return in October, Stormzy has used his Twitter and Instagram accounts to share updates on his releases and chat with fans. However, as of Sunday evening (Dec. 18), fans were greeted with the message that his accounts were no longer available.

While it’s unclear when Stormzy made his sudden social media exit, the “Mel Made Me Do It” hitmaker had some trouble at the airport on Saturday while attempting to fly to Qatar for the World Cup Final.

As reported by multiple outlets, the 29-year-old became anxious when told there was an issue with his passport. A video shows Stormzy showing his passport to officials while exclaiming, “The same passport. I’ve got one passport.” Onlookers report he ultimately missed the plane.

Although his Twitter and Instagram accounts are gone, Stormzy hasn’t got rid of social media completely. On Monday, he took to Facebook to share a video from his Merky Foundation’s Christmas event in his hometown.

After being awarded an honorary degree from Exeter University for his work to promote education and fight racial inequality earlier this year, Stormzy returned to his old elementary school to share some life advice with the current students. Watch the cute video below.

Latto Transforms Into A Sexy Alien For “Area 24” Intergalactic Birthday Party

Latto likes to go all out for her birthday with lavish themed parties to celebrate, and this year is no different.

In 2020, the “Big Energy” rapper laid on a Roaring 20’s theme when she turned 22 with a Royal Casino celebration. A year later, Latto partied with guests for a Wild Wild West Rodeo-themed surprise birthday bash entitled Wild Wild Souf.

For her 24th year, Latto chose an Out Of This World concept for her “Area 24,” party in Atlanta. She teased the event with a series of images on social media featuring the star as a glamorous creature from outer space.

However, Latto managed to outdo herself for her “Area 24” bash, donning a costume that looked straight out of a science fiction movie. She wore a futuristic shiny pink two-piece and painted her skin for a full-on alien effect. A pair of novelty contact lenses, pointed ears, and a pink wig completed the look. Check out her transformation in the video below.

Joe Budden Reacts To Alleged Lil Fizz OnlyFans Leak: “I’d Break That Lil Boy”

Joe Budden’s reaction to the recent purported leak from Lil Fizz’s OnlyFans account has reignited the speculation surrounding his sexuality.

The B2K artist went viral last week when an alleged OnlyFans leak, showing him exposing his backside in multiple graphic photos, hit the net.

“Lil Fizz, you’re lucky I didn’t see this news sooner,” Joe said as one of his co-hosts introduced the topic.

When his co-hosts joked that as the “OnlyFans King,” he should have seen the photos before the alleged leak, Budden implied that Fizz is not his type.

“Do I like skinny people?” Joe Budden replied before adding, “Lil Fizz too small for me. I’d break that lil boy. I’d have fizz coming out of Fizz.” Check out his comments in the clip below.

Joe Budden’s sexuality became a topic of conversation last year after a viral clip of him saying, “I’m bisexual,” surfaced online. However, the snippet was out of context, as he was referencing DaBaby being canceled for his homophobic Rolling Loud remarks. Budden claimed the situation was “extortion” and joked about being bisexual to avoid the LGBTQ+ community’s wrath.

“How do I spread this news?” he asked. “How do I spread the word? Listen, I like guys and girls. Spread the word. I’m down. I’ve seen enough.”

Joe Budden Says It’s “Intrusive” To Ask Someone About Their Sexuality

He later addressed his sexuality during an appearance on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast.

“I’m not ready to share my personal journey,” he sarcastically replied when asked if he is bisexual. “I’m not ready to let you guys into my world.”

He continued, “Only in Hip-Hop do n##### think that’s cool. ‘Yo, I heard you say something. Do you like dick?’ Only in Hip-Hop do n##### think that that’s not an intrusive question.”

Lil Fizz Responds To Alleged OnlyFans Leak

While Lil Fizz has kept silent about Joe Budden’s comments, he denied being the person in the leaked images.

“This s### crazy, the levels these chicks will go to, to try to destroy and ruin you,” he wrote on Instagram. “Wow unbelievable! Y’all have a happy holiday, that is NOT ME!”

Pusha T Resigns As G.O.O.D. Music President, Kanye West No Longer Speaks To Him

Pusha T and Kanye West have fallen out over the DONDA creator’s recent antics.

The “Diet Coke” hitmaker opened up about the current state of his relationship with his longtime friend and collaborator during a new interview with XXL. Pusha T claims Kanye West stopped speaking to him because he disagreed with Ye’s controversial views.

“He’s not speaking to me now. If you ain’t with it, you ain’t down,” Pusha explained. “And I ain’t with it. I’m not budging on that. I’m not with it.”

The It’s Almost Dry creator also revealed he hasn’t spoken to Ye since November when he first addressed his anti-Black and antiemetic statements, calling Kanye’s stance “disappointing” for him as a Black man.

“At the end of the day, s### is being said today that’s beyond disappointing,” Pusha T told XXL. “It’s beyond that and it’s nothing to tap dance around. It’s wrong. Period. But to me, it’s just me and him having a difference of opinion yet again. ’Cause we done had this for years.”

Despite their previous disagreements, Pusha T believes Kanye’s mental health may be a factor, citing his controversial interview with Alex Jones,  where he praised Hitler and the Nazis.

“I heard about this new stuff [on ‘InfoWars’],” he continued. “I don’t know. It’s something that just sort of tells me he’s not well, at the same time. I will say that. It’s going to places where it’s no way to move around.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Pusha T confirmed he is no longer President of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. However, he revealed that he has a separate deal with Def Jam.

“I have a 50/50 venture with Def Jam,” Pusha explained. “For my own music and for my label.”

Snoop Dogg Overwhelmingly Wins Poll To Replace Elon Musk As Twitter CEO

Snoop Dogg, hip-hop news, gold school, Elon Musk, Twitter

Snoop Dogg recently gained widespread support on Twitter when he ran a poll asking if he should become the new boss of the platform.

The poll came after Elon Musk, the current head of Twitter, asked his followers if he should “step down” following controversies related to the site’s moderation policies and banning journalists.

The embattled technology mogul, 51, promised he would abide by the results of the vote – which resulted in a comfortable majority of 57.5 percent of the 17.5 million voting for Musk to resign.

In response, Snoop asked his own followers if he should run Twitter.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with over 80% of the more than 2.6 million votes saying they wanted Snoop to take control of the site.

Snoop Dogg is one of the most successful business moguls hip-hop has produced. He recently purchased Death Row Records, has a massive investment in Reddit, is pushing his own cereal with Master P., has a forthcoming line of hot dogs, and has raised $100 million for his Casa Verde Capital cannabis fund.

Elon Musk has not commented on the results of either poll, but he did tweet, “Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it,” although it was unclear if he was talking about Snoop Dogg or referencing his latest dump of “The Twitter Files.”

Nipsey Hussle’s Killer Fails Miserably At Attempting To Have Charges Reduced

A judge rejected a defense request to reduce the first-degree murder conviction of the man accused of gunning down rapper Nipsey Hussle earlier today (December 19th).

In July, Eric Holder Jr. was found guilty of the murder of rapper Nipsey Hussle.

On March 31st, 2019, Holder shot and killed Hussle, 33, in front of his Marathon clothing store. Both men were members of the Rollin 60s Crips gang, and Holder became enraged after Hussle accused him of being a “snitch.”

Holder returned to the store a few minutes later and shot Nipsey Hussle 11 times with two different guns, kicked him in the head, and fled in a vehicle driven by a woman with whom he was romantically involved. Two other men were also injured in the shooting, but they survived.

Today, Judge H. Clay Jacke of the Los Angeles Superior Court rejected a defense request to reduce the first-degree murder conviction of Holder to second-degree murder or voluntary manslaughter.

According to NBC News Los Angeles, Judge Jacke also denied a defense motion for a new trial.

Eric Holder Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced on February 22nd and could face a possible life prison term.

A memorial service for Nipsey Hussle was held on April 12th, 2019, at The Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The service featured performances by Stevie Wonder, Jhene Aiko, and Anthony Hamilton while moving tributes by guests such as Snoop Dogg, YG, Nipsey’s father, Dawit Asghedom, and his brother Blacc Sam were given.

Ex-President Barack Obama also paid his regards to Nipsey in a letter to the rapper’s family.

Following the memorial, a funeral caravan trekked 25 miles through South Los Angeles. Nipsey left behind two children, a daughter named Emani and a son named Kross, with actress Lauren London.

“Every time I would see Nip and Lauren, they reminded me of me and my wife. It was like black excellence. You love to see that. So, with that being said, Lauren, my wife, my family, my kids, we’re here for you, whatever you need. If you need a shoulder to cry on. If you need a hug, you just need to get away. We’re here for you. We love you baby girl, we always have we always will,” Snoop Dogg said.

Romeo And Master P’s Family Feud Escalates Over Potato Chip Brand

The family drama between Romeo Miller and Master P continued to play out via social media on Monday (December 19).

Romeo called out Master P for alleged financial misdeeds involving the Rap Snacks potato chip brand. According to Romeo, he never got paid for lending his likeness to the company.

“This year I will get my first Rap Snacks check and finally start receiving my earnings from my bags,” Master P’s son wrote on Instagram. “I was told as kid that we owned Rap Snacks, and that my payday would come after put in work and sold company, silly me! I promoted a company for free for 15+ years based on the word of my pops, without being allowed to see any contracts or even meet with the team, and I stayed loyal … but I’m entitled and ungrateful now?”

Romeo discussed his lack of Rap Snacks compensation after recently claiming he’s never been paid for anything he accomplished as Lil Romeo. He said his money was used to pay off Master P’s taxes.

Master P accused his son of acting entitled and spoiled. He later declared he was dropping the feud with his son in a video posted on social media. Romeo fired back at his dad in his since-deleted post about Rap Snacks.

“Only addressing this here because my father is trying to gaslight and break me instead of taking accountability of his mistakes and greed and this is just the tip of the iceberg,” he wrote. “My concern was never about money but that’s the only thing that was highlighted, so here we are.”

Romeo added, “I never brought this to social media, my father @masterp did when he felt the urge to call out blogs to clear up stories that was bothering him. I rarely post, but I do have a voice too and I won’t be bullied. I forgave my dad years ago and I apologize for entertaining this on here, because it’s out of character, but sometimes that’s what it takes. He has to be willing to get help too.”

YGG Tay Accused Of Murder-For-Hire & Racketeering In BGF Gang Indictment

Baltimore rapper YGG Tay was one of six alleged Black Guerilla Family gang members indicted for racketeering conspiracy on December 15.

The indictment was unsealed on Monday (December 19). The Justice Department accused YGG Tay and others of murder, murder-for-hire, drug trafficking, armed robbery and witness tampering.

YGG Tay allegedly paid gang members to kill his enemies. According to the Baltimore Sun, prosecutors said he once rapped about hiring a hitman named David Warren.

“Breaking news, I just signed the top shooter in the city to a deal,” YGG Tay bragged. “All them years he signed to me, a lot of [people] get killed. If he get caught, don’t stress about it, his lawyer going on my bill. If somehow he lose at trial, got one word, appeal.”

Warren was one of the six men indicted alongside YGG Tay, whose real name is Davante Harrison. The 28-year-old rapper allegedly hired Warren to kill several people.

“Between February and August 2018 Warren allegedly attempted to murder three of Harrison’s rivals in exchange for payments from Harrison,” the DOJ said in a press release. “The intended victims included two individuals who publicly accused Harrison of cooperating with law enforcement and a BGF member who burglarized Harrison’s residence in 2013.”

YGG Tay, who’s already serving 15 years in prison for gun and drug charges, was also accused of paying a BGF member to kill someone in 2014. He allegedly provided the weapon and $10,000 to the gunman.

Barak Olds, Wayne Prince, Joshua Duffy and Tyrell Jefferies were the other alleged BGF members named in the indictment. YGG Tay and his co-defendants face up to life in prison for racketeering conspiracy.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Lawyer Says Witnesses Are Being Intimidated In Tory Lanez Case

Megan Thee Stallion’s lawyer Alex Spiro accused Tory Lanez of witness tampering in an interview with TMZ on Monday (December 19).

The attorney was asked about Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguard Justin Edison, who was supposed to testify in the Tory Lanez shooting trial but went missing. Spiro claimed Tory Lanez engaged in misconduct to “prevent a fair trial from taking place.”

“These are not the only witnesses who have been compromised or attempted to be compromised that are testifying in this case,” Spiro said. “This is a pattern of misconduct. It’s clear as day. And after the verdict, the investigation into this conduct is not going to end. And it’s not going to go quietly into the night, and these things are gonna be figured out, and the public will soon learn.”

Kelsey Harris, another witness in the Tory Lanez case, faced accusations of bribery due to the nature of her testimony. She denied the allegations, but her story on the stand changed from the one she told prosecutors in September.

Tory Lanez is on trial for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in July 2020. Her bodyguard was expected to testify that Tory Lanez apologized and confessed to the shooting.

Edison previously provided a witness statement revealing Tory Lanez’s alleged confession. But the bodyguard was suddenly M.I.A. when it came time to testify in the trial. Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney said Edison’s disappearance was uncharacteristic.

“The bodyguard is a very responsible person,” Spiro asserted. “He’s always on the grid, always responsive. All [of a] sudden, the one day he doesn’t show up in all the days of his career and life – and all his working for Meg and others in the entertainment business – is the day he’s set to testify. And he was going to testify that Tory, in fact, confessed to him and said, ‘I shot her. I’m sorry.’”

Tory Lanez pleaded not guilty to assault and weapons charges. If convicted, he faces up to 22 years and eight months in prison.

R. Kelly’s Manager Heading To Prison For A Year For Threatening To Shoot Up “Surviving R. Kelly” Screening

Donnell Russell, the former manager of R. Kelly, has been sentenced to serve a one-year prison term for calling in a shooting threat that disrupted the Manhattan screening of the “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries.

Russell was found guilty of threatening physical harm through interstate communication after making a phone call to NeueHouse in December 2018.

Since the safety of guests was a top priority, it was decided to evacuate the theater.

R. Kelly and his cronies ended up ruining the screening of “Surviving R. Kelly,” which is a thorough investigation into the controversial singer, featuring women who speak out about the sexual, mental, and physical abuse they suffered at the hands of the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer.

Despite their attempts, the documentary aired on Lifetime and ended with the singer, who is 55 years old, being sentenced to 30 years in prison following his conviction in a sex trafficking and racketeering case.

The punishment is a result of his conviction in 2021, in which he was found guilty on nine charges, including racketeering, which included 14 individual acts such as bribery, kidnapping, and forced labor.

As for Russell, he apologized for his antics on behalf of R. Kelly when he was sentenced.

“I’m not a horrible person,” Russell said, according to various reports.

In November 2022, Russell was also given a 20-month prison sentence for harassing and intimidating one of Kelly’s victims.

The sentence was issued by a federal judge in Brooklyn after Russell pleaded guilty to one count of interstate stalking in the summer.

Ye May Need A New VP Now That Trump Could Be Charged

The January 6th committee recommended the Justice Department pursue multiple charges against Ye’s pal Donald Trump on Monday (December 19).

Committee members referred Trump for obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement and inciting, assisting or giving aid/comfort to an insurrection. The Justice Department is currently investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

The January 6th committee’s recommendation marked the first time Congress referred a former president for criminal prosecution in American history. The Justice Department isn’t obligated to bring criminal charges against Trump. But Rep. Jamie Raskin suggested the DOJ’s investigation may lead to even more charges against the former president.

“These are not the only statutes that are potentially relevant to President Trump’s conduct related to the 2020 election,” Rep. Jamie Raskin said. “Depending on evidence developed by the Department of Justice, the president’s actions could certainly trigger other criminal violations. Nor are President Trump and his immediate team the only people identified for referrals in our report as part of our investigation.”

Last month, Trump announced he was running for president again in 2024. Ye, who is also running for president, asked the twice-impeached politician to be the controversial rapper’s vice president. The offer didn’t go over well, according to Ye.

Give The Gift Of Investing

Many people might not realize it, but the holidays could be a perfect time to invest in a start-up business. Maybe you just got that big Christmas bonus, or a relative opted to give you some cash, and you have some left over after all that Christmas spending.

Why not put it to good use in leveraging for the future?

Investing in start-ups is a great way to get into the beginnings of a business. Often the concepts are interesting and are working towards building a better tomorrow. Not only are they working towards a future, but you get to be on the ground floor. Unlike throwing money into a large investment pool of assets, you get the feel of working with a small business.

You get feedback from a company that you never would with larger companies. Start-ups offer a ground-floor feeling, communicate with their investors, and often take input. For example, at WiGL we love to hear from investors with ideas about where our wireless power technology could best help them.

This year if you have some extra cash on hand from Santa, investing in a start-up might be just the right idea; and if you’re interested in the future of wireless power, feel free to look us up!

Styles P And Jadakiss Rip Irving Plaza In “Back To Back” Concert

Styles P and Jadakiss are a unique proposition. They are not a group, but after a quick review of their work together, they might as well be.

Over the weekend, the brothers in D-Block took to the stage at the revered Irving Plaza to bring their “in-and-out” rap style to their most ardent supporters. It was a sight to behold on December 16. Jadakiss and Styles P impressed, performing a melody their back-to-back bars as well as their solo offerings. “Banned From TV,” “I’m A Ruff Ryder” and “I Get High” drove the crowd into a frenzy. DJ Technician and Scram Jones were the spin masters that manned the ones and twos.

Girll Codee, Brady Watt, The Hoodies, Neek Bucks, Flawless, Nym Lo, Haile Supreme, and Shanell Sharpe supported the efforts and also gave and audio statement on the state of New York’s rap culture. Things are not as bad as it has been advertised.

Tupac Shakur’s Stepfather, Mutulu, Released From Prison

Mutulu Shakur, the stepfather of rapper Tupac Shakur, has finally been released after serving almost 40 years in prison for a 1981 Brinks armored-truck heist conviction.

Authorities linked him to the death of Nyack cops and a security guard death; the New York Post reports.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, Shakur, 72, was a member of the Black Liberation Army/The Family.

He was granted his papers by the US Parole Commission on the grounds of a compassionate release after being diagnosed with stage-3 Multiple Myeloma, a terminal blood cancer

Now for the first time in 40+ years, his 60-year sentence has been interrupted and he can hug his loved ones as a free man.

A statement from his website read, “The decision to grant parole is based on federal law guidelines for “old law” prisoners, finding that Dr. Shakur poses no threat to the community.”

Shakur’s “exemplary conduct in prison, his medical condition, and how much time he has served,” the statement added.

In November, court documents revealed the decision from the parole commissioner.

“We now find your medical condition renders you so infirm of mind and body that you are no longer physically capable of committing any federal, state, or local crime,” officials said.

Mutulu Shakur was released from a federal medical center in Lexington, Kentucky, the Atlanta Black Star reported.

While the federal agency made the decision in October, the news was released on Thursday, Nov. 10. Many in law enforcement disagreed with the decision and wanted him to sit in jail and rot.

Shakur, who was married to Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, was also arrested with Kathy Boudin, who was paroled in 2003 after serving 22 years in jail. She died of cancer in May of this year.

Judith Clark, another member of The Family, was paroled in 2019. The most recent member of The Family, David Gilbert, was released in October 2022.

It Turns Out Drake LOST $1 Million World Cup Bet Even Though Argentina Won!

It has been reported that Drake lost a $1 million bet on the 2022 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France, which took place on Sunday.

The rapper had reportedly bet $1 million on Argentina to win and shared a screenshot of his bet on Instagram.

However, despite Argentina’s victory, Drake did not receive the payout because the team won in a penalty shootout, and Drake’s bet was made in a market where only the score after 90 minutes of play was counted.

If Argentina had won during regular time, Drake would have won $2.75 million, a profit of $1.75 million.

Drake shared a screengrab of his bet on Instagram on Saturday night and also posted a video showing him discussing his bets with a friend.

“I’ll take Argentina, he’ll take France,” Drake said in the since-deleted clip. “We’ll make that happen, that’ll be a vibe.”

Drake is known for his love of gambling and has previously partnered with cryptocurrency casino Stake.

AllHipHop Presents Battle Rap Superlatives: The Best Of 2022

CLICK HERE TO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVES

2022 is about to come to an end and you know what that means?

It is time for AllHipHop.com to submit our annual superlative lists, where fans get to vote on who they believe are the best of the best.

Ironically, the fans have gotten it right— as the AllHipHop.com list lines up with the other major list in the culture.

Let’s be clear: AllHipHop.com is NOT like many other media platforms, not locked into the culture.

Day in and day out, we celebrate battle rap and don’t swoop in just when things are getting rocking. As a commercial media outlet, we choose to give real estate to the culture with one caveat … people got to have bars … people have to rap and have star quality.

This year we have partnered with leagues, brought on the team battle rap stakeholders, and covered the culture with care.

The categories are detailed here with a link to the survey below. The survey ends on January 5 so make sure you get your vote in while there’s still time!

Battle Rap Superlatives 2022

Fan Top 10 Favorite/ Preference Battle Rappers of the Year (Female and Male)

A co-ed preference list, this top ten seeks to give space for you to be honest about those lyricists that speak to you, make you scream at YouTube, or make you want to root for them.

There are plenty of names, both male and female to choose from.

Top Female Battle Rappers of the Year

List the women who have come into the year — ripping the roof off of it without breaking one of their pretty and perfectly manicured nails.

The women were on their grind this year. We have seen female battle rap just look different this year. From Queen of the Ring hosting the first-ever battle rap prom and being highlighted as one of the top leagues by the Universal Hip Hop Museum to Chrome 23 hosting the first all-female tournament to the Ultimate Rap League hosting their first all-female Volume card and Shooneral vs. The Bardashians possibly being the battle of the year, 2022 could be called the “Year of the Woman.”

Top Male Battle Rappers of the Year

Name the best male rappers that have been slaying the competition all year.

The competition in this category is stiff with many battlers in the running. Five of the most hard-working among them this year are Shotgun Suge, Swamp, Sheed Happens, JC, and Tay Roc.

This year also saw the buckling of some heavy hitters that we would never have expected to lose and the return of some cultural legends that we are always rooting for to win!!! This list will be super competitive this year.

Top Emerging Talent of the Year

Who are the new faces and voices that have “emerged” this year as some of the top emcees in the world?

Among them, we have a ton of fresh voices like Eaze, Hansel, Footz, Klutz, Awthentic, Saflare Sole, Aeon, #NKW, Fresh Da Great and so many more.

Top Battle Rap Event of the Year

What cards do you believe towered over the rest?

There have been a lot of fire cards this year from a lot of outstanding leagues. Think back on all that Battle Academy did this year. Consider Tay Roc and Lady Caution’s card. Are we going to forget about those stripped-down, uniformed tournament battles that tournament rounds on Chrome 23 or the first time the URL went to New Orleans?

Plenty of cards will fight for the number one spot this year, and it is all up to the fans.

Top Battle Rap Media Outlets

Battle rap media consists of a few different styles of coverage: Analysts, Reporters, Op-Editors/Vloggers, and Talk Shows. What shows, bloggers, or personalities made the biggest noise in 2022?

By far this is the most controversial list in our superlatives. People are up in arms when it comes down to who the fans say is the best but what we have seen in the past is that it helps make the content quality that you all receive better: PEOPLE UP THEIR ANTE TO GET THAT TOP SPOT.

Remember fans … you are all in control.

While many say it doesn’t count because it’s a popularity contest- that’s how metrics are run- by who the people say entertains them the most and we are here for it.

Most Impactful Event of the Year

What are the most impactful happenings in Battle Rap over the last 12 months?

Where will fans start?

Is it the most recent Tay Roc vs. Kyd Slade battle? Is it Hitman’s “Bags and Bodies” reality show? Shooneral beating the Bardashians in an upset? What about JC winning $100K? Is it URL making a Hollywood-produced documentary on their success, including a roundtable segment with legends talking about the origins of battle rap rooted in the late 90s– noting Smack was damn near there from the beginning?

Is it how grimy they did Tsu Surf while he was on a whole run? #FreeTheWave Was it the Universal Hip Hop Museum celebrating battle rap every day for a who month and then ending the month by making a commercial out of a freestyle from one of its stars? GTX making its debut?

It might even be Norbes losing in the Supreme Court the biggest part of his “ownership claim” with the Ultimate Rap League.

Will fans say the most impactful and unifying happening of the year is the tragic murder of the Sucka Free Boss, Pat Stay?

It might be anything considering there were at least 3 major battle rap events every month of the year. We are listening and can’t wait to hear what you, the fans, say.
