Megan Thee Stallion Would Do “D####” Musical “50 More Times”

Megan Thee Stallion laughed “the whole time” while shooting her new movie “D####: The Musical.”

Megan made her movie debut in the musical as Gloria, the boss of two business rivals who discover they are twins and plot to get their divorced parents back together.

In an interview, Megan Thee Stallion, who has a musical number in the movie, described the set as “the easiest (she’s) ever been on.”

“It was so insane. It’s a real movie. This not like a music video. So this is not a short day. I literally learned the choreography the day before, and shot it the next day. And I learned the choreography on the set, and then just shot it the next day,” she said of her musical number.

Reflecting on the whole production, she added, “But everybody that worked there, everybody who was a dancer, everybody who was in production (were) so nice. It was the easiest set that I’ve ever been on. We were laughing the whole time, and the experience was great. If there’s a lot of musicals I like, I would do it 50 more times.”

While the movie musical marks the 28-year-old’s first film role, Megan Thee Stallion has previously appeared in TV shows such as “P-Valley,” “Good Girls” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.”

“D####: The Musical,” which features Megan’s song “Out Alpha the Alpha,” stars Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson as the twins and Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally as their divorced parents.

Danny Brown Admits He Was Drunken Mess While Making “Scaring The Hoes” Album

Danny Brown wondered if his drinking ruined his chances to create another album with JPEGMAFIA. Brown recently told The Guardian his alcohol abuse was at its worst during the recording of their Scaring the Hoes album, which dropped in March.

“When we were making it, it was really hard to work with me,” Brown said. “I was at my drunkest at that time. There would be times when he’d come down here and I’d get blacked-out drunk and we wouldn’t do s### for a weekend, but then there’d be times when he’d come and I’d do five songs in a day. I would love to make another album, but I would understand if [JPEGMAFIA] never wanted to work with me again.”

Brown announced he was checking himself into rehab soon after the release of Scaring the Hoes. He said his rehab stint humbled him on a May episode of The Danny Brown Show.

According to The Guardian, Brown has not had a drink in more than 200 days. His sobriety helped him find more joy in his live performances.

“I actually started to have fun being on stage again,” he said. “Doing the shows sober almost became like a therapeutic thing, to just see the people in the crowd smiling and being happy and having a good time. That energy translated to me, so it was like I was getting my fix every day with that.”

Brown is scheduled to release his new solo album Quaranta on November 17. He viewed the project as a “happy ending” to his struggles with alcohol and depression.

RZA Drops Red Carpet Jewels Ahead Of Wu-Tang’s New Red Rocks Documentary Premiere

RZA has been a zeitgeist of creative energy for more than 30 years. AllHipHop.com recently ran into the co-founder/de facto leader of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan at a red carpet Urbanworld Film Festival premiere of the new documentary A Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which spotlights the Wu’s 2021 performance with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at the historic Colorado venue.

As media and well-wishers crowded and disregarded the velvet rope enclosure, RZA—the Ambassador of the Urbanworld Film Festival—graciously spoke with reporters about the project. The Grammy and Emmy Award-nominated producer, actor, musician and filmmaker is also co-director of A Wu-Tang Experience: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre with Gerard Barclay (Gee-Bee). The air was electric with excitement and creativity was the ongoing theme of the day.

“You vision is your vision,” he said. “Don’t let nobody else talk you out of it. Your vision is your vision. It takes making strong decisions and determination. It is hard to beat determination. I think Wu-Tang is purity. No matter what you go through, you always want to get back to the purity. With Wu-Tang, you get that purity of Hip-Hop and that purity of youth and the culture.”

It’s difficult to get any group of people to agree on a single course of action, even more so when it comes to musicians, with each having their own version of what it means to remain culturally relevant. When asked  how he was able to corral the group and their many differently personalities to do the show, RZA replied, “It was nerve-wracking to do the concert because it’s not easy to convince my Wu-Tang brothers to step out of their comfort zone and do something [different]. Sometimes, when artists producer art, we put it into categories; Black, white, reggae, classical. We compartmentalize it. When art itself is ambiguous, in all reality. I think the film documents us going through that experience and I’m glad to share that with the audience.”

For many, creativity isn’t just a job. It’s a way to maneuver through life and create something from nothing, which is something RZA knows a lot about.

“Life should inspire creativity,” he added. “In the beginning of my career, of course, I’m in the hood. I’m in the projects, and you hear the sounds of the projects. You hear sirens in my tracks. As time moved on, I traveled the world and got the chance to be at the Hippodrome in Greece and all that. Now, you hear orchestration and different things. To every artist, let your self be the antennae to send the signal and also to receive it.”

For many, the name Gerard Barclay may as well be written in Martian hieroglyphics as it would be just as unrecognizable. However, Barclay has been a singular creative force behind some of the most breathtaking visuals of the Wu and is co-director of the documentary as well.

“I learned that you just have to be prepared because Wu-Tang has many tentacles,” Barclay said. “I went on tour with them in 1997. You may have seen my other documentary, The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Did you know I directed ‘The Mystery of Chessboxing’ with the giant chessboard. I did two versions of ‘M-E-T-H-O-D Man.’ I did ‘It’s Yours.’ I did ‘Daytona 500,’ I did all of the Killa Army videos. I did all of that.”

As anyone from “around the way” can attest, the hood is brimming with creative energy and talent. Barclay was just such a talent and it was by luck that he crossed creative paths with RZA. As he explained, “From 1983 to 2000, I was living in Staten Island. It was a serendipitous connection that got us all together. I had just gotten out of college when Wu-Tang was getting together.

“I had just gotten a communications degree and the first guy who started to do the Wu-Tang video never finished it. They wanted somebody who could do the job, and somebody said, ‘There’s a guy in 141,’ which is the building that I was staying in. Thirty years later we’re still working together and making things happen.”

Wanna Be Rapper Throw In Arkansas Jail Over Lyrical Content

A local rapper’s lyrics have become the center of a legal storm in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Reese Alexander Sullivan was arrested earlier this week amid allegations that his rap lyrics posed a credible threat to public safety.

The arrest echoes a larger national conversation about the role of lyrics in criminal proceedings. Sullivan’s lyrics, which authorities claim include direct threats to specific individuals, were deemed a step beyond artistic expression.

For instance, Sullivan threatened to shoot up schools, blow up churches, blow up the center, and assassinate the President.

Sullivan told the FBI that his wraps were meant to be jokes and that he did not believe the statements he was making.

This local incident mirrors the ongoing RICO trial of Atlanta rapper Young Thug, whose lyrics are being scrutinized for alleged evidence of criminal activity.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has argued that the lyrics are reflective of actual crimes, a stance that has raised concerns among advocates for artistic expression.

The arrest in Bentonville and the RICO trial both highlight the growing legal challenges facing artists, particularly in the genre of rap, where lyrics sometimes depict violence and street life.

In response to these concerns, Congressman Jamaal Bowman and Hank Johnson have reintroduced the Restoring Artistic Protection Act (RAP Act) to Congress.

The bill aims to safeguard artists from having their creative expressions against them in court. The proposed legislation, supported by the Black Music Action Coalition, seeks to ensure that lyrics are recognized as a form of artistic and personal expression rather than literal statements of intent or confession.

Details on the RAP Act can be found on Congressman Bowman’s official site.

As the RAP Act moves through Congress, the outcomes of these cases could set precedents that will influence the intersection of music, free speech, and legal accountability for years to come.

As for Sullivan, he was charged with felony terroristic threatening and released on $50,000 bail. His next court date is December 11.

Drake Deposed For “Several Hours” Over Travis Scott’s Astroworld Tragedy

Drake was reportedly questioned for several hours in a deposition tied to hundreds of lawsuits stemming from 2021’s deadly Astroworld Festival, which claimed 10 lives and led to hundreds of injuries. According to Rolling Stone, sources couldn’t offer any details due to a “rigid publicity order.” A rep for Drake said they “didn’t feel it is appropriate to comment on the matter.”

Drake’s deposition comes after Travis Scott—the organizer and headliner of the festival—spoke with attorneys in early October after plaintiff attorneys filed an emergency motion to compel production of electronic documents on his cell phone.

In September, a lawyer for Scott told the court his client’s phone was lost at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico but added text messages between Scott and his manager, David Stromberg, “would show the vast majority, if not all, relevant texts” from Scott regarding the event. During that hearing, the court and attorneys from both sides determined Scott would have two more days of deposition the following month.

Despite Drake’s brief appearance during Scott’s set, he was still named in many of the lawsuits alongside Scott, Live Nation and its subsidiary Scoremore and Apple, which livestreamed the event. In legal filings, Drake has maintained he didn’t take part in planning or organizing the event.

A grand jury decided not to file criminal charges against Scott and several other organizers tied to the event, however the victims’ families all sued. Three have since settled, and the first wrongful death suit is currently scheduled for trial next May.

Drake did address the tragic turn of events shortly after the incident, writing, “My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can, May God be with you all.”

Birdman Caught In Violent Altercation With Druski In Menacing Video—But Is It Real?

It looks like the “Coulda Been Records” chain Birdman proudly displayed on social media was actually snatched from Druski during a violent altercation. TMZ obtained surveillance video of the Cash Money Records co-founder allegedly “pulling up” on the comedian, which shows a group of men getting in a scuffle.

At some point during the melee, Birdman winds up getting the chain from Druski’s neck. The confrontation took place on Friday night (November 10) at a Los Angeles studio, where Druski had just finished filming a segment of his reality show, Coulda Been House. In the clip, it looks like Birdman lunges at Druski but doesn’t actually make contact.

But considering we live in an age where staged antics for clout and attention are the norm, it’s possible they’re all just trolling everyone.  Nonetheless, Hurricane Chris took issue with the situation on Saturday (November 11) once Birdman posted the “Coulda Been Records” chain to his Instagram Stories, suggesting a fight had ensued.

“I grew up idolizing Cash Money as a hip hop artist to see how bro made a joke out of people that clearly are not to be joked with shows bro a real lame no talent just acting stupid for the camera I’m glad my daddy raised a solid stand up type cat we ain’t play around like Lil kids with adults even when we were kids at 16 I was more mature than these dudes are at 26,” the “A Bay Bay” rapper wrote. “You charlamagne wanna be cats gonna make somebody go to jail for life everybody don’t play games remember that Lil comedian cats some of us laugh at what happens next not the joke all I’m saying is okay with your peers and kids like u not mfs who really will see about you in real life.”

Hurricane Chris was met with ridicule for taking (what fans think was) a joke too seriously.

Hurricane Chris Roasted For Chiming In On Birdman & Druski’s Alleged Beef

Hurricane Chris evidently has a problem with anyone coming for Cash Money Records co-founder, Birdman. On Saturday (November 11), Birdman shared a post to his Instagram Stories with a “Coulda Been Records” chain and the caption, “Surprise Party B####. Slippin’ in Studio. Rich Gang,” which was supposedly snatched from comedian Druski.

The “A Bay Bay” rapper hopped in the comment section and wrote, “I grew up idolizing Cash Money as a hip hop artist to see how bro made a joke out of people that clearly are not to be joked with shows bro a real lame no talent just acting stupid for the camera I’m glad my daddy raised a solid stand up type cat we ain’t play around like Lil kids with adults even when we were kids at 16 I was more mature than these dudes are at 26.

“You charlamagne wanna be cats gonna make somebody go to jail for life everybody don’t play games remember that Lil comedian cats some of us laugh at what happens next not the joke all I’m saying is okay with your peers and kids like u not mfs who really will see about you in real life.”

Almost immediately, people began telling Hurricane Chris to “shut up” and reminded him Birdman and Druski were likely just playing around. Comments like, “I f### w u brah but this s### ain’t even that deep” and “Ain’t that deep tho homie. Don’t get me wrong I agree with what you saying but mfs need to learn to stay out they feelings like the hoes. Birdman rich as hell so tf he worried bout a comedian having fun and building his own legacy. Birdman don’t own the dollar sign nor the cent sign” quickly started littering the post.

Hurricane Chris has faced his own set of challenges over the years. In 2020, Louisiana prosecutors accused him of killing 32-year-old Danzeria O. Farris. Although he was ultimately found not guilty of second-degree murder, he’s still dealing with the fallout. Last month, he revealed he plans to file a civil lawsuit against the Shreveport Police Department.

“Everybody on the scene understood what happened, but when the detective got me downtown and started questioning me, he started off with, ‘Hey, you had a song on the radio, right?’” he told TMZ. “And then, from there, everything went downhill. I didn’t stand a chance. I lost over $1.4 million. I had a movie deal coming up. I signed to an acting agency before I was arrested. I lost the deal with the acting agency, one of the biggest agencies in Louisiana.”

Hurricane Chris went on to say his pending legal matter cost him the chance to audition for television shows such as FX’s Snowfall and STARZ’s BMF. He’s seeking compensation from the law enforcement agency. Watch the clip below.

Chrisean Rock Goes From Drama To Devotion With Biblical Parenting Philosophy

Chrisean Rock took to x.com to tell the internet about her unique parenting approach with her newborn son, emphasizing the importance of spiritual guidance over material wealth.

Despite providing a luxurious start for her child by giving the kid a $40,000 necklace and a $500,000 bank account, Chrisean Rock said she prioritizes daily Bible readings and prayers, aiming to instill lasting values and blessings in her son.

“I pray and read the word to him every day. It’s not what you can give them; it’s what you can leave inside them.

Her journey to motherhood has been filled with drama and challenges. Chrisean Rock revealed her pregnancy and the gender of her baby boy in August through a social media post following a pregnancy photoshoot.

The father of the kid is her on-again, off-again “twin flame,” rapper Blueface.

After some high-profile drama where he questioned the child’s paternity, DNA results confirmed Blueface as the father of her child.

During her pregnancy, Rock openly declared her intention to set boundaries with Blueface, stating that she would not allow him to be present at the birth but welcomed his involvement in their son’s life afterward.

Despite her never-ending relationship drama with Blueface, some early criticism due to her parenting style, and bringing the newborn to public events, Chrisean Rock expressed gratitude for her child’s blessed life, acknowledging that he will not have to endure the hardships she faced growing up in Baltimore.

“We are thankful that this lifestyle my child won’t have to struggle like I did, be hungry like I was, or neglected and left behind like I was. AMEN THANK YOU JESUS,” Chrisean Rock emoted.

Chad Johnson & Terrell Owens Claim They Once Had 12-Hour Orgy With Over 17 Women

Former NFL stars Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens have apparently shared some wild sexual exploits together over the years. During a recent live stream, Ochocinco and TO actually reminisced about a time they claimed they both shared more than a few women between them during an impromptu trip to the Dominican Republic.

“Remember that time we was in the DR with them women—we had a lil orgy,” Ochocinco started off. “Aw yeah, I had the big girl,” Owens replied in a clip shared on social media by TNT. “I had to take one for the team…big girls need love too!”

Ochocinco continued divulging the vulgar details of the encounter, while also engaging in a back-and-forth with TO in an effort to determine exactly how many suitors were involved in the sultry exchange of flesh.

“We went through about 17 women in, what, 12 hours,” Ochocinco asked TO, to which her replied, “Was it 17?” TO continued, “My mind ain’t good dog…17? Man I thought it was about 12.” TO added, “I was done after about two or three! I had to recuperate, I had to recover, dog!”

Even though none of this has been confirmed, it isn’t that hard to believe these two may have linked up for an indulgent excursion given the fact that they had previously played together on the Bengals’ stacked roster in 2010.

The incident showcased Meek Mill’s influence on social media and his ability to stir up a conversation with just a few words while also drawing attention to his latest release Too Good to Be True, his new critically acclaimed collaboration album with Rick Ross.

Meek Mill Reacts To Young Thug’s Lyrics Being Used As Evidence In RICO Case

Meek Mill took time away from promoting his new joint album, Too Good To Be True with Rick Ross, to address the ongoing legal case involving Young Stoner Life label founder Young Thug.

Earlier this week, a judge ruled Fulton County, Georgia prosecutors are able to use Young Thug’s lyrics in the rapper’s RICO trial. The judge said the prosecution could present seventeen sets of lyrics performed by Thug and his co-defendants as evidence.

“I’m conditionally admitting those pending lyrics, depending upon – or subject to a foundation that is properly laid by the state or the proponent that seeks to admit that evidence,” Judge Ural Glanville stated.

Meek Mill seemed to address Glanville’s ruling in a social media post. In addition, the Dream Chasers leader also mentioned another Atlanta-area rap star. YFN Lucci faces a RICO indictment in Fulton County as well.

“Locking us [up] for rapping got me scared to do [an] interview,” Meek Mill tweeted on Friday (November 10). The Philadelphia native added, “Free Jeff Free Lucci.” Previously, Meek expressed his belief that Young Thug will beat the RICO case.

Meek Mill Backed Laws Limiting Prosecutors Use Of Lyrics As Evidence

Meek Mill has his own history of dealing with the American justice system. He was convicted on drug and firearm charges in 2008. However, he was later pardoned by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.

Upon exiting prison, Meek Mill became a founding partner of the Reform Alliance, alongside Jay-Z and other billionaires. The nonprofit organization advocates for parole and probation reform in the United States.

Meek Mill, the RIAA and the Recording Academy supported California Governor Gavin Newsom signing the 2022 Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act. The new law limits the use of creative works as evidence during civil and criminal proceedings.

In July 2022, Congressmen Hank Johnson (GA-04) and Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) introduced the Restoring Artistic Protection Act (RAP Act) in the U.S. House of Representatives. If passed, the federal bill would restrict the admissibility of creative or artistic expression as evidence against an artist in court. Johnson and Bowman re-introduced the RAP Act in April 2023.

“Rap, Hip-Hop and every lyrical musical piece is a beautiful form of art and expression that must be protected,” Congressman Bowman said. “I am proud to introduce the RAP Act alongside Rep. Hank Johnson. Our judicial system disparately criminalizes Black and brown people, including Black and brown creativity.”

G Herbo Sparks Beef With Chris Brown Over Funny Marco Interview

G Herbo and Southside relentlessly trolled Funny Marco last month. It was so weird. G Herbo is a pretty cool dude generally, but he and Southside really gave Marco the business. Well, Chris Brown didn’t forget and brought it up in a recent interview on Marco’s show.

“Why you let G Herbo and them do you like that,” Breezy questioned on the platform.  “You just letting light-skinned n####s bully you and s###.”

This almost immediately got back to G Herbo and he wasn’t pleased to hear his name mentioned. He fired back over social media.

He said, “If you have my name in my mouth—talking to another party of person—I hope you able to be back it up. I hope you tough. Way tougher than me. If I hear it, I’m going to slap the f### out of you.  I’m going have to start treating n####s like the b####s they are.  A lot of n####s b###### and been b###### and going to stay b######.  But me, I’ve never been a b#tch.  I dodn’t even play with b#### ass n####s.  A lot of you b#### ass n####s are doing b#### a## sh#t … I’m not going to spare you b#### a## n#####s anymore.  I’m going to treat you like b####s.”

Who do you think wins this scrap?

Did Jay-Z Sign A Legendary MC?

Did Jay-Z just sign a classic Hip-Hop super lyricist? That’s the rumor! Let me back up a bit. My dude Jay-Z has been quietly putting out a lot of artists, but more than just the regular artists like The LOX, Fat Joe and others in his management portfolio. The billionaire mogul signed Jaz-O to a distribution deal a few years ago. That album didn’t go crazy, but it was dope. Big Jaz came through. (By the way, we interviewed him recently. Peep it.)

So, anyway. Jay-Z has embraced a proverbial who’s who in the underworld of rap. Of course, we know about Griselda, but there are others such as Rock Marciano who are now down with Roc Nation. You know he’s one of the underground greats. There’s a full assortment of artists that were either on the verge of falling off or completely marginalized that Jay-Z has helped to resuscitate. That’s amazing.

I cannot say the name of artist that is reportedly signing with Jay-Z in a distribution capacity, but I can tell you that world wants this to happen. This artist has been underrated for so long that it’s time he got some flowers. What I can tell you is he’s a super lyrical MC that came out in the late 1980s. Jay-Z reveres him as one of the best to ever have done it. He’s even mentioned him in song. And that’s all I’ll say for now, but you can best believe that will be breaking news as soon as we’re able to say more.

So, can you guess?

Think about it….

Keke Palmer Granted Full Custody Of Infant Son After Battle With Darius Jackson

Keke Palmer now has sole physical and legal custody over her eight-month son, whom she shares with the fitness instructor Darius Jackson.

The 30-year-old actress was reportedly presented with the opportunity to share custody with Jackson but chose not to. In the petition for sole custody, the Hustlers star stated she would pay for the “reasonable expenses” from pregnancy and birth. However, she maintained that both parties should be responsible for their own legal fees.

Court documents added that the court “may make orders” for child support and “issue an earnings assignment without further notice to either party.”

Jackson has no custody of his son and must stay 100 yards away from Keke Palmer. Palmer’s filing followed soon after Jackson posted a series of cryptic messages via Twitter..

“Just thank God & keep it pushing,” he posted on November 2. He then reposted an earlier message that read, “Being betrayed by someone you loved really changes your mindset.” He added, “Nobody apologized for how they treated me, they just blamed me for how I reacted.”

Palmer and Jackson’s relationship issues first became public in July, when Jackson called the actress out on social media for wearing a fitted, sheer dress to an Usher concert in Las Vegas.

Jim Jones Sends Veiled Threats To Dee-1 Over Criticism For Glorifying Violence

Dee-1 stirred up trouble by calling out Jim Jones, Rick Ross and Meek Mill for glorifying violence in their music. Jones defended himself and ridiculed Dee-1 when asked about the criticism in an interview with Sway Calloway.

“I don’t care about what [Dee-1] said,” Jones said. “That boy don’t know me. I know his trick. He using my name for fame. It’s all good … I do more in one month for people than he’ll ever do in his whole life. I really give back to the people. I don’t care about none of the rhetoric he talking about.”

He added, “In real life, I do a lot for the people. Let’s line up the statistics. You talking or you doing? You talk a good one. What have you done?”

Jones repeatedly belittled Dee-1, dismissing the New Orleans native’s work despite pushback from Calloway. The Dipset rapper also issued a warning to Dee-1, hinting a potential violence.

“I don’t like to hear people mention my name, especially when you don’t know me,” Jones said. “Because that’s very touchy. You gotta watch whose names you mentioning out here. Because my little cousin might not like how you mentioned my name. And then he might want to slap a dread out your head just ‘cause he don’t understand that you using my name for fame … I’m not promoting violence. I’m just saying that when you do certain things, there’s a reaction for every action.”

Dee-1 reacted to Jones’ interview in an Instagram post on Friday (November 10).

“Jim Jones responded,” he wrote. “This is serious. Watch in full. These are some of the highlights, possible threats, warnings, insults, and other things spoken on. Once again, this is a PIVOTAL MOMENT in Hip-Hop history and we need to make sure we come out better because of it. I’ll be back shortly…..”

Donald Trump Spots Lil Pump In Florida Rally Crowd Wearing MAGA Gear

Lil Pump’s support for Donald Trump—both past and present—has earned the rapper a shoutout at a campaign rally in Florida. The former president acknowledged Lil Pump as “one of the few” artists who publicly backed the twice-impeached politician in a speech on Wednesday (November 8).

The ex-president looked at the crowd and spotted Lil Pump, who stood up and showed off his MAGA attire. Lil Pump attended the rally after recently leading his fans in a “we want Trump” chant at a show in Mississippi.

Lil Pump previously pledged his support for Trump in 2020. The two shared the stage at a campaign rally in Michigan. Trump mistakenly called Lil Pump “Lil Pimp” before inviting the rapper to speak at the event.

“I appreciate everything you’ve done for our country,” Lil Pump said at the 2020 rally. “You brought the troops home and you’re doing the right thing.”

Trump lost the 2020 presidential race, but he’s running for president again in 2024. He remains on the campaign trail despite getting indicted four times this year.

Two of the cases are related to Trump’s efforts to interfere in the 2020 presidential election. He faces 91 criminal charges, which include a violation of Georgia’s RICO Act.

Desto Dubb Talks “Dead Homies” Featuring Veeze And Relationship With Mariah The Scientist

Desto Dubb might boast one of the most compelling stories in Hip-Hop, one that inspires, motivates, and reminds the masses that they too can make their wildest dreams come true.

Coming from Watts, Desto Dubb started out as a hustler and hype man before stepping into entrepreneurship. He’s best known for his extremely popular streetwear brand called That’s A Awful Lot of Cough Syrup, which gained momentum during the pandemic.  Within a few months, Desto went from selling hoodies out of his van in a parking lot in downtown Los Angeles to now owning two retail stores across the city.

This crossover Desto has been able to build across both Hip-Hop and high-fashion/streetwear culture is definitely one that does not go unnoticed. Every big rapper has rocked his brand from Young Thug to Lil Uzi to the late Drakeo The Ruler, leading to his successful debut of his brand at NYFW and LAFW this year!

Somehow, Desto still finds time to be a rapper himself. Most recently, he unveiled his new song “Dead Homies,” in collaboration with Veeze.

AllHipHop spoke with Desto Dubb to discuss the growing success of his clothing brand, new release with Veeze, relationship with Mariah The Scientist, an update on Thug, and more!

AllHipHop: Congrats on 5 years of your clothing brand That’s A Awful Lot Of Cough Syrup. Did you ever think you’d have this thriving clothing brand?

Desto Dubb: Oh no. When I was younger, I used to think being successful was having a couple of thousand in your bank account. I now own 12 cars and three houses. I’m feeling good right now.

AllHipHop: 12?! How do you even park them all?

Desto Dubb: I bought a few of my cars from West Coast Customs. I keep five cars up there and four at home and a few others at my locations. I allow my team to use a car too, if need be.

AllHipHop: How was it debuting your clothing brand at New York Fashion Week?

Desto Dubb: NYFW was crazy, it was a learning experience. I went out there and I learned a lot. It was a whole new thing. I’ve been swimming in the pool my whole life, I finally jumped in the ocean. It’s a lot of different sharks and fishes out there than what we’re used to.

AllHipHop: What was the biggest learning lesson?

Desto Dubb: I’m a hustler so when I think of clothes, I’m thinking about what I can sell. I enjoy making something I can ultimately sell in the market. In New York, most designers make stuff they don’t want to sell. They don’t want you to have their clothes. I met so many different designers that don’t even have their own clothing line, they’re just designing stuff. With this mindset, who are you doing it for?

To me, as a great designer and stylist, whatever you sell has to be appealing to the general population or majority of the people that want to buy. Now, if you’re making something for yourself and don’t plan to sell it, then ask yourself what is the MO? Why are you making it? You don’t always have to design clothes for people. You can make it for you, but this shouldn’t be the main focus of your brand. This is the biggest learning experience I’ve come across lately.

AllHipHop: That’s what you did for Thug though, right? You made him custom pieces.

Desto Dubb: Yeah. But again, I made it so he can wear it. That was the MO: I have this brand, I have this artist. He only wants to wear stuff that’s custom to him, so that’s what I’m making it for. These people are sitting up in their houses, making clothes that probably won’t ever be seen on other people like Thug.

AllHipHop: No Jumper is opening a flagship store next to yours on Melrose Ave. Can you touch on that?

Desto Dubb: I have a shoe store, That’s A Awful Lot Of Kicks. It was a little bit too much for me. I would have $4K shoes and ended up selling them for a low price. It really didn’t make sense to me. I overheard Adam talking about how he’d love to be back on the block. I told him hey, I got a spot for you. You can rent it and be right next to me. My store is already located on one of the biggest blocks on Melrose, it’s like putting Shaq and Kobe on the same team. Make it even bigger.

AllHipHop: Y’all are doing a podcast too, right?

Desto Dubb: Yes, I’m a co-host with Adam22 on NoJumper! We’re gonna be streaming here and there from the store. It’s really a gift shop for their fans to come to a hub and connect with the people that’s behind the scenes.

AllHipHop: Your day is probably really hectic. How do you still find the time to do music?

Desto Dubb: The music part is honestly super simple. It depends on the day. If I have a busy business day, I’m not recording. If I have a big day as an artist — then yes recording makes sense. The other day,  I was with Fenix and Bravo. I met with my other homie from Houston, Lil Jairmy. Having motion like this, oh I gotta get in the studio because I have a crazy day to rap about.

Most of the time, towards the weekend when business lines cut off, I crave out time to be creative. Do I want to be creative and create some pieces for my clothing line? Do I want to create content for my Instagram? Do I want to be creative and make a song? I’m always creating something

For me, music is really about the vibe. I could go inside the studio and make five songs. If I’m not vibed out, I’m not gon’ really think the songs are fire. It‘s based on deposits, people wearing my brand or the energy I’m around. I can either create some fire pieces, or I can use my energy to make a fire song.

AllHipHop: What were you on recording “Dead Homies”? What’s your relationship with Veeze?

Desto Dubb: One day, Veeze came by my old apartment to chill before he had to do something later. Producer Thank You Fizzle was with us, making some beats. Veeze was doing some freestyling in his head. We’re like man, you gotta hop on it. He came up with the hook first. He did the verse and we went crazy from there. Right within that moment, we made two of the hardest songs we have ever done.

I’ve known Veeze for a long time, around five years. It’s great seeing him getting his flowers for the hard work he’s put in.

AllHipHop: What inspired the song?

Desto Dubb: “Dead Homies’ is a west coast banger. Everybody be on some pay to play. Trick daddy this, tricky that. My homies and I are  like, I’ll never love someone over the dead homies. Dead homies is the ending of the sentence, a catchy phrase you hear tossed around the streets. For instance, I’ll never go broke on the dead homies or I’ll never love a trick girl over the dead homies, and so forth.

AllHipHop: Best memory from “Bankteller” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Pump, Smokepurpp, and O3 Greedo?

I invited Greedo over one day because I was hanging out with Lil Pump at the time and he wanted to meet him. It was the last day before Greedo went to jail. I called him like, ‘hey Greedo, what you on? Pull up, we in Beverly Hills. We got a 3-story mansion. I got the McLaren and the Ghost.’

When Greedo pulled up, he’s like “man, I just got off the phone with Lil Uzi. He wants to pull up too.” We ended up recording the song. I knew my role. I’m not someone who jumps on every song but this was different. Pump did a verse, then Greedo did one. Uzi eventually pulled up and hopped on the track with a verse too. The rest was history from there.

AllHipHop: Did you feel pressure?

Desto Dubb: For sure, but I’m the bench player. You waiting for that one call.. [knocks] Ooh, I can’t wait to go out and show what I can do. [knocks] Oh, you want me? Let’s go! I did that verse. Purp came over, he did the verse. However, the biggest moment came year or so later.  Uzi called me like, “Hey, what up? Remember that song we did? You want to drop it?” Hell yeah I want to drop it! “Okay, we gon’ send it to you. Just drop it.” The song was a hit.

AllHipHop: You got a favorite collab you’ve done musically?

Desto Dubb: I love the songs I have with Ralfy The Plug. Me and Ralfy make good music together. I have a lot of songs with him because we used to work together so much. I would relisten to the old mixtapes and discover collabs I didn’t realize we did. Like, I didn’t know he put Greedo on this, or Drakeo on that. This is how Ralfy is. We used to just go to the studio. When he called me, I’m at the studio. There was a time when I was heavy in the studio. My plan was to make money during the day selling clothes, and go to the studio every night. They knew if they called me, they could get a verse or two in. We went to whatever studio we had access to, and created chemistry for hours.

AllHipHop: 3 things you need in the studio at all times?

Desto Dubb: Loose Leaf, water, and gas. If I don’t have those three, I won’t even have a mic. Of course, there’s other things that’s needed. If I pull up to the studio and I don’t have nothing to roll up with or nothing to roll, or if there’s no water, I’m not going to be my best.

AllHipHop: I ran into you at Mariah The Scientist’s album listening. What’s your relationship with her?

Desto Dubb: Slime’s my best friend. Anytime Mariah comes to LA, he calls me and says, “Hey, make sure she’s straight.” It’s what I’ve always done. This was before he went to jail. When she was out here, he’d always call me like, “Whatever you need.” I’ll say let me know, I’ll do it for you. Even after he went to jail, we kept the relationship. Mariah’s good friends with my wife and she knows my daughter. She personally invited us to her album listening party. My wife loves her, but I look at her like a sister.

AllHipHop: How’s Thug doing?

Desto Dubb: He’s in good spirits. He’s been working out and getting in shape.

AllHipHop: Best part of fatherhood?

Desto Dubb: Getting my daughter dressed every morning. I’m starting to see her pick up her own style. She wants to wear what she wants. Recently, she has been into girly clothes, like blouses. I’m like what you’re doing? I’m over here getting her the Bape sweets and Chrome Hearts but she wants to wear a little Fashionnova two-piece.

AllHipHop: Anything else you’re excited for? Any goals?

Desto Dubb: I’m excited to end this year strong. I’m excited for the growth of my team. Next year, I want to open up a new store. I’m excited for No Jumper being on the Melrose Ave block. I’m not trying to get any happier, I’m not trying to get any more sad. I’ll be right here creating and I want to go into the next year with all of my friends, employees, and family.

Sometimes you can have too much fun and next thing you know, it’s all over. I have a lot of exciting new projects and exclusive drops coming! The hustle never ends.
