Kendrick Lamar Pays More Than $8 Million To Purchase Brooklyn Duplex

Kendrick Lamar closed a deal to buy a Brooklyn penthouse in November. According to the New York Times, K. Dot paid $8.6 million for his new duplex at Pierhouse at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Reports of Kendrick Lamar’s bid to purchase the property first surfaced in August.

Lamar’s New York pad includes four bedrooms with three and a half bathrooms. The 3,140 square feet duplex offers views of Brooklyn Bridge Park, the East River and Lower Manhattan.

K. Dot’s duplex was originally listed for sale at $8.99 million. He purchased the property through an LLC called Dogg Pound Buildings.

The Brooklyn penthouse bolstered Lamar’s real estate by adding a property on the East Coast. He already owned homes in California.

Lamar has been relatively quiet in 2023 following a busy 2022. Last year, he released his Grammy-winning album Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers before leaving his longtime label TDE. A concert film of his Big Steppers Tour dropped on Amazon Prime Video later that year.

K. Dot’s TDE departure did not negatively affect his relationship with his former labelmates, such as Jay Rock. Last month, Rock said the two rappers remained close despite Lamar’s exit from the label.

“That’s my little brother,” Rock told DJ Whoo Kid in an interview. “Hollered at me the other day. That’s still bro. Ain’t nothing change.”

Lamar embarked on a new journey with his pgLang company, which he co-founded with former TDE executive Dave Free in 2020. The company is not strictly a record label but does have two artists on its roster: Baby Keem and Tanna Leone.

Earlier this year, Lamar teamed up with Baby Keem for a single titled “The Hillbillies.” He also appeared on a remix of Beyoncé’s song “America Has a Problem.” The two previously collaborated on her 2016 track “Freedom.”

JxHines Talks Signing To Anthony Hamilton’s Label, Jacquees Tour & Hit Single “Body Like SZA”

JxHines is intent on making sure R&B is here to stay. Pronounced “J X,” the rising star is currently on the road opening for Jacquees on his SINCERELY FOR YOU Tour, displaying his standout vocals and undeniable talent to major cities all across the world.

In describing himself, JxHines states, “I’m a real down-to-earth, loving type of guy. Really easy-going. Country boy from South Florida. I’m just a lover. All about the vibes, all about good energy. Good times.”

Born in Florida but based in Charlotte, North Carolina, JxHines is a singer, songwriter and producer who’s been infatuated with music since he was “in the womb.” Growing up in a family of eight kids, his father was a preacher at their family’s church. Soon, he’d find himself behind the drum kit, laying down the foundation for Sunday service to commence.

Fast forward to 2023, JxHines unveiled his newest song and visual for “Body Like SZA,” a fun, uptempo record that finds him talking his s### while reflecting on his growth as a recording artist. The accompanying music video is a nod to Flavor Flav’s VH1’s dating show, Flavor Of Love.

AllHipHop recently spoke with JxHines in downtown Los Angeles to discuss his sound, background, “Body Like SZA,” signing to Anthony Hamilton, opening for Jacquees, working with DaBaby and more.

AllHipHop: How would you describe your sound?

JxHines: Unique, different. Took me a long time to build it over time. For the most part, I found a way to separate myself in a great way. Vocally, concept wise, music wise, lyric wise. All the above.

AllHipHop: When’d you realize you could do music for a living?

JxHines: I’ve been doing music since the womb, I come from a singer family. A lot of musicians, a lot of great musicians. Small town: some of the best singers and vocalists, people you’d never hear of. That place shaped me for a bigger stage in my life, so it’s in my blood. It’s me [laughs].

AllHipHop: Who are your favorite artists?

JxHines: All-time will be Michael Jackson. Hip-Hop wise, I’ll go with Outkast. Right now currently, J. Cole. Drake. R&B side, we’ll say Chris [Brown].

AllHipHop: How’d you get your name?

JxHines: My name is my name. Jay is short for my full name, then the “x” is for completion. Hines is my last name, so it’s original. It’s authentic.

AllHipHop: What inspired your new song, “Body Like SZA”?

JxHines: It’s a bar within the record. But if you listen to the song, it’s about me going from being broke to that lifestyle that I’ve seen for myself. With that comes with certain things. It was a line: “She’s working on her body all winter/She’s telling me, she wants a body like SZA. Well, do your sit-ups.” It’s more of a line in a sense of there’s all kinds of ways you can do it. It’s a bar, but it made sense to call it that because of how catchy that line was. There’s no other way it could’ve gone.

AllHipHop: Talk about the video being inspired by Flavor of Love?

JxHines: We wanted to do something different. We didn’t want to go with typical or cliché. I wanted to do something that I felt would stand out amongst the consumers, and what better way to tie it all in? I love the way Flav was able to create challenges within his show. Our team came together and said, “That’d be super super dope to create something around the ladies competing for the love.” What better way than doing it through fitness and showing love?; bigging up women, things like that. But it made sense to go with something that people can relate to. That was a relatable concept that was realistic for “Body Like SZA.”

AllHipHop: Best memory from the video shoot?

JxHines: Probably the do-rag walking up the steps. That’s fire [laughs]. You don’t see that often. That was one of my best memories from it, the long durag. The drip, the suit, the hat on. That was really dope.

AllHipHop: You’re the first artist signed to Anthony Hamilton’s My Music Box. How’d that happen?

JxHines: It’s dope. I’ve been knowing Anthony for a while, in passing. We both were in the city of Charlotte. I was putting in a lot of work independently, he took notice. We didn’t do business right away. But eventually, we ended up coming together. I put out a series of singles and EPs, and it spoke volumes to that level. That’s what made them see okay hey, this kid has something. On top of that, my work ethic. That was really the main thing that brought him to the situation, so here we are.

AllHipHop: How excited are you to open for Jacquees?

JxHines: It’s been lit! Shout out to Jacquees. It’s been dope, a lot of love. Taking advantage of each and every city. Being able to go to each and every city, showcase our talent and get the love back, it’s been an honor. I look forward to finishing out the tour strong and one day, tour myself. For me.

AllHipHop: Is Jacquees the King of R&B?

JxHines: I respect and support him in every way. I also have great confidence with in myself.

AllHipHop: How was it collaborating with DaBaby?

JxHines: We’ve been knowing each other for a while, just the whole Charlotte scene. We all came up together. I was a promoter prior to me putting out the music. Seeing his come up, we all were at a point in our lives where he became who he became and I’m becoming who I’m becoming. A lot of work was early on. But once everything is where it’s supposed to be, you’ll definitely see a lot of that at some point for sure.

AllHipHop: Name tree things you need in the studio at all times.

JxHines: My engineer. Shout out to him, JStacks. Some hot tea, and really nothing else. I don’t need no drank, no weed. I don’t need those things.

AllHipHop: You don’t need weed in the studio?

JxHines: I mean, some people need it. I don’t rely on it, I’ll say that. I’m more one of those people that’s in tune with me, so I don’t really need it. I use it if I need it. Studio wise, I’m a blank canvas. My engineer’s more important, I need that [laughs].

AllHipHop: What do you like to do when you’re not working?

JxHines: When I’m not working, travel. I’m either traveling, or I’m playing video games. I love it, I’m a gamer. I’m just chillin’. I’m out the way with it. I’m not one of those people that got to be in every room or space to be enjoying my life. I’m just out the way.

AllHipHop: What else can we expect from you?

JxHines: Great things, a lot of stuff. I’m getting ready to drop more music, eventually another EP or album. Those are still to be determined, but the music is definitely there. Right now, we’re focusing on building the name. That’s the goal first, because I don’t want it to go over anybody’s head with such great music. I want to build my fans up organically.

Jussie Smollett’s appeal in connection to his hate crime attack hoax case just got even more complicated. On Friday (December 1, a three-judge panel in an Illinois appeals court voted two-to-one to uphold Smollett’s conviction.

Based on the ruling, Smollett may have to return to Chicago jail to serve the remainder of his 150-day sentence. The only option the actor’s legal counsel has now is to appeal the recent ruling with the Illinois Supreme Court—who will decide whether or not they will hear the case.

In 2022, Smollett was convicted on five counts of felony disorderly conduct after allegedly hiring the Osundairo brothers to stage a hate crime against himself in 2019. He was acquitted on one count. Smollett was initially charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct.

Smollett had previously spent six days in Cook County in 2022 before he was released while attempting to appeal for his sentence to be overturned.

Ari Lennox Playfully Wears Helmet At Concert After Bottle Throwing Incident

Ari Lennox made light of a viral incident in which a fan threw a water bottle at her while she performed on Rod Wave’s Nostalgia tour. The Dreamville artist wore a helmet when she appeared on stage at their show in Oakland on Thursday night (November 30).

“My name is Ari Lennox,” she told the crowd. “Should I keep this s### on or what?”

Before the bottle-throwing incident, Lennox admitted it’s been hard for her opening for Rod Wave in an interview with Angela Yee. The singer questioned if her music appealed to his audience.

“It’s hard,” Lennox said. “It is because I’m opening up for young people and … You know what I realized? I think my music is a little too happy. And I mean no shade, right? But it’s too like, ‘Pressure,’ and his is like different. So, I think the people are just like, ‘What the hell is this happy s### on here?’”

Lennox’s run as Rod Wave’s opener concludes with a show in Jacksonville on December 18.

Jeezy Allegedly Cheated On Jeannie May Leading To Divorce According To Court Docs

Jeezy announced his split from his wife of less than three years, Jeannie Mai, in September. The announcement seemed amicable at the time, but new court docs suggest their divorce could get ugly. According to TMZ, Jeezy has been accused of being unfaithful, leading to their breakup. The docs are initially more general but then get highly specific. They also suggest Mai could get a huge payday for Jeezy’s indiscretions.

As the docs explain, “Wife reserves the right to amend this counterclaim to add other grounds for divorce, but which Wife does not wish to specify herein at this time in the hope this matter can be resolved without having to disclose such conduct publicly […] Wife further shows that the Court should enforce Paragraph 8 of the Prenuptial Agreement regarding infidelity which provides, in pertinent part, that in the event that either party engages in sexual relations, an emotional relationship, or is emotionally or sexually suggestive in communication with a third party via all forms of electronic communications, including but not limited to texting, sexting, FaceTiming, social media and/or Direct Messages, shall result in a significant financial penalty upon the adulterous party.”

Jeezy reportedly filed for divorce in September amid rumors Mai had actually cheated with Access Hollywood host Mario Lopez, but that was debunked by a source close to her. Jeezy then released a double album titled I Might Forgive … But I Don’t Forget in the wake of the split, which includes the song “Don’t Cheat.”

He later sat down with Nia Long in which he discussed his pending divorce.

“This has not been an easy journey,” Jeezy said. “I can tell you that I’m sad, I can tell you that I’m disappointed, I can tell you that I’m uneasy. But God has put me on a different path, and that path is going to entail for me to take care of myself and to love myself and to be in the best situation that I can thrive as someone who’s been through all of the things that I’ve been through.”

Jeezy also admitted he doesn’t “like to fail at anything” and “can only be responsible” for himself. He added, “I can only do what I can do. I can’t expect someone else to do what I’m doing.”

The former Def Jam Recordings artist broke his silence on the split in October, saying, “The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart. Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains, and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”

The same month, Mai said she was “taking it day by day” and focusing on their one-year-old daughter.

Ice-T To Finally Make “Rick And Morty” Debut

It would be understandable if some Rick and Morty fans believed Ice-T made a cameo in the second season of the adult animated sitcom. However, the Body Count frontman didn’t provide the voice for Water-T.

Series co-creator Dan Harmon took on the role of imitating Ice-T for the “Get Schwifty” episode of Rick and Morty in 2015. Fast-forward eight years later, Harmon has finally secured an actual appearance by the real Rhyme Pays rapper.

Ice-T will make his Rick and Morty debut this Sunday (December 3). Th Hollywood Walk of Fame recipient will voice the character of Magma Q on the Adult Swim program.

Dan Harmon previously expressed interest in casting Ice-T for Rick and Morty. During a 2018 interview with GQ, the Emmy Award winner discussed creating the “Get Schwifty” installment of the sci-fi series. He also talked about wanting the Hip-Hop legend on the show.

“I love Ice-T and it would be a fantasy come true to have him come and do Ice-T or Water-T or any other character,” Harmon stated. “He could be Vice President or whatever. It would be great to work with him sometime. I love his voice. That’s why I do a dumb impression of it.”

In addition to breaking into the entertainment industry as a recording artist, Ice-T has acted in motion pictures such as Breakin’, Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo, New Jack City and Ricochet. He also became a television regular as a cast member of NBC’s long-running crime drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Bronny James Cleared To Return To USC Basketball Team Following Cardiac Arrest

There is good news for the family of Bronny James and USC Trojans men’s basketball fans. The 19-year-old college freshman has been medically cleared to return to the team fully.

Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during a workout at the University of Southern California in July.

A congenital heart defect reportedly caused Bronny to collapse at the location. After being hospitalized for three days, the teenage athlete underwent a procedure to treat his CHD diagnosis.

“The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support. Fight On!” a James family spokesperson said in a statement.

LeBron James confirmed he will miss the Lakers game if the team plays on the same day as Bronny’s debut for USC. The Trojans play Gonzaga on Saturday, December 2. USC’s first home game takes place on December 10 against Long Beach State.

Bronny James’s 2023 senior year at California’s Sierra Canyon preparatory school included the guard making the McDonald’s All-American team. He reportedly considered attending Duke, Kentucky, Ohio State and Oregon before deciding on USC.

Following his medical scare, Bronny James appeared at Drake’s “It’s All A Blur Tour” stop in Los Angeles. That August 21st show featured Bronny and LeBron escorting the Hip-Hop superstar to the stage in the Crypto.com Arena.

Lil Gotit Calls Out People Disrespecting His Brother Lil Keed’s Grave

Raqhid “Lil Keed” Render, 24, died on May 13, 2022. His younger brother, Semaja “Lil Gotit” Render, took to social media this week to blast anyone disrespecting the “Nameless” rapper’s gravesite.

“Who keeps going to my brother’s grave doing stupid s###, man, y’all done threw his flowers away. Everybody got flowers up there. Why the hell y’all just go to my brother’s grave and throw flowers away?” Lil Gotit said in a video posted to his Instagram Story.

He continued, “It’s weird. I hope your stupid-ass dies. You’re playing with the dead. Y’all n####-ass just burnt. Atlanta’s so damn fried. How the hell y’all keep messing with the dead? Hope Keed get on y’all stupid ass.”

Lil Gotit then asked his followers if they knew how to install spy cameras. The Atlanta-born rapper/singer also said, “I can’t wait to catch a n####’s ass. His ass is toasted if I catch his ass, whoever’s doing it, n#### or a b####.”

This was not the first time Lil Gotit delivered a public service announcement about his late brother’s final resting place. Last year, he issued a similar warning to vandals allegedly disturbing Lil Keed’s tomb.

“Whoever going to [Lil Keed’s] grave tryna unscrew him out the wall and stuff when I catch u it ain’t gone be nan nice so I hope u see this message!!!!” Lil GotIt posted at the time.

Before his passing, Lil Keed released projects such as Keed Talk to ‘Em, Long Live Mexico and Trapped on Cleveland 3. The posthumous Keed Talk To ‘Em 2 arrived earlier this year with features by Lil Gotit, Big Sean, Offset, Young Thug and more.

Dee-1 Addresses His Critics On “Lines Drawn” After Clashing With Meek Mill, Rick Ross & More

Dee-1’s critique of certain recording artists turned into a month-long back-and-forth. The New Orleans-bred musician/educator further addressed the situation in his new “Lines Drawn” song.

“I did this song as a response to the industry being so shaken by me drawing a line in the sand and saying that we need some accountability for the messages we’re glorifying inside Hip-Hop,” Dee-1 explained.

The 34-year-old social activist, born David Augustine, continued, “This is part one, there’s more on the way. A shift is happening from a genre and cultural perspective.”

Tufts University student Jalen Hill filmed the official “Lines Drawn” music video. Hill enrolled in Dee-1’s “The Intersection of Hip Hop and Social Change” course at the institution.

Dee-1 made headlines in October following an appearance on Sway In The Morning. At one point in the interview, the UNO album creator called out three of his fellow rappers, specifically Meek Mill.

“Jim Jones, you can do better, brother. I love you too much to not be honest with you. Rick Ross, you can do better, brother. Meek Mill, you can do better, brother,” Dee-1 stated.

He also said, “I love you too much to not be honest with you. Are you the face of prison reform? Or are you sitting here on your new song with Ross talking about getting somebody murked and shot at the red light?”

Meek Mill, Rick Ross and Jim Jones each responded to Dee-1’s criticism. In addition, Benny The Butcher jumped into the conversation after Dee called out Hip-Hop culture for glorifying “coke rappers.”

Boosie Badazz Says He’s Suing Rod Wave For “Everything” After Negotiations Collapsed

Boosie Badazz claims his attempts to settle a dispute with Rod Wave over the use of his lyrics failed—and now he’s plowing ahead with a lawsuit.

Boosie threatened legal action last month, but Wave said they could avoid a lawsuit if the Baton Rouge native gave him “a real number.” However, in an Instagram Live Thursday (November 30), Boosie claims he and Rod Wave got on the phone to negotiate but failed to reach an agreement.

“I told dude, ‘Give me two hundred thousand and 25 percent of the record going forward and I’m not gone sue you or nothing bro,’” Boosie said of his conversation with Wave.

He explained that he thought the deal was fair as Wave already profited from the song and said the beef “made people choose sides in the industry,” which further cost him.

“This dude thought I was gone tell him two million,” Boosie added. Nonetheless, he claims Wave tried to bargain him down, offering to “meet you halfway with one fifty.”

Boosie refused to budge, telling Wave, “I got to get the 200,” adding, ” I’m already spending 30 with my lawyer to sue you. I tried to work with that dude. Now when the suit come, you gone pay me for emotional damages, Instagram… everything.”

Earlier this week, Boosie revealed his threats to sue Rod Wave and other artists has earned him a newfound respect in the music industry.

“What I did was a big step for me,” Boosie said on Instagram Live. “Now, people are respecting me. Now, the industry respecting me as a businessman … People calling me like, ‘Boosie, man, I’m trying to do this.’ Man, let’s do it. I be happy as a m###########.”

Tiny Trashes Baseless Rumor T.I. Not King Harris’ Biological Father

The Harris family has made headlines over the past few days, and Tiny has had enough of her family being used for “clickbait.”

Tiny took to Instagram Thursday (November 30) to shut down a rumor she claimed was “the biggest b####### ever,” sharing a post alleging T.I. is not the biological father of their 19-year-old son King Harris.

“No disrespect but I don’t even know Bimmy like that!” she said of the man at the center of the speculation. “I was just reminded of who he was. Quit playing with us for click bait b####!!”

She followed up with a few posts on X writing, “A lie don’t care who tell it,” before adding, “Quit playing with my family for clickbait! I’ve had about enough!”

Tiny also dismissed a fan’s suggestion that the family is providing the content. “No,’ she replied. “They’ve taken an honest family moment and added all type of b####### onto it, as they always do to get views on their lackluster platforms.”

Meanwhile, earlier this week, T.I. confronted an Atlanta club promoter who seemingly tried to capitalize off the recent Harris family controversy by using an image of the rapper and his son King on an event flyer.

Footage from the incident shows T.I. chastising the venue’s employees.

“No money, no beers, no partying, no sections. No nothing. You putting me and mine on a muthafuckin flyer, give me everything,” T.I. yelled. “If you can’t, don’t play with me. I don’t know if y’all from here but don’t play with me, because it’s my muthafuckin city.”

Beyoncé Back In Her Rap Bag On Surprise Single “My House”

Beyoncé has blessed fans with a brand new single, and Queen Bey is back in her rap bag on “My House.”

As one of the few artists able to drop new music with no rollout, Beyoncé shared the surprise new song at midnight Friday (December 1). Stream “My House” at the end of the page.

Meanwhile, just hours before sharing the new single Beyoncé was hitting the red carpet in London for the star-studded London premiere of her Renaissance tour film. The star of the movie was in momma mode while posing for photographers with her 11-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles, shared a sweet moment from the premiere on Instagram. The clip shows Bey becoming concerned after realizing Blue was struggling to stay warm.

“Are you cold?” she asked, rubbing her daughter’s arm. Blue Ivy confirmed she was but continued posing. However, her mom paused before dashing off, presumably to find a coat for Blue.

“This has me in tears right now,” Tina Knowles wrote in the caption. “To the fans that are there uplifting this beautiful talented 11 year old I thank you I appreciate you.”

Blue Ivy became one of the main attractions on Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour after making her debut in Paris in May. She surprised fans with her fancy choreography on her mother’s song “My Power.”

In her new concert film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, the superstar songstress revealed Blue was supposed to make a one-time performance

“She told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no,” Beyoncé said in the movie. She also shared that Blue read comments criticizing her dancing. Instead of feeling demoralized, the pre-teen was motivated “to put in the work and train even harder for future stops.”

Blue Ivy became a regular fixture on the tour, with her confidence increasing at every stop.
