Chicago’s Calboy Returns “Unchained” With “On My Own” Video

Calboy released his new single, “On My Own,” on July 28, which is taken from his forthcoming album project, Unchained.

Boasting more than 2 billion streams, the Chicago rapper has achieved much in a short span of time—from hitting Billboard’s Hot 100 chart to earning a triple-platinum certifications. Now, he’s back with an independently released video.

“Since I was a kid, I told my family I was the golden one,” he raps in the song. “I recognized my gift early and I figured out the rest despite my circumstances/I’m truly chosen for this/I’m a warrior.”

Hailing from Chicago’s historically troubled Southside, Calboy grew up in an impoverished, often violent neighborhood. But instead of succumbing to the danger and crime prevalent in the area, he embraced music as an outlet, a therapeutic way to express his feelings. For at least a decade, the 24-year-old has been crafting unique raps and delivering emotional sonic rides that help redefine the soundtrack of the streets.

Usher Addresses Keke Palmer & Boyfriend Darius Jackson’s Las Vegas Show Drama

R&B legend Usher’s My Way The Las Vegas Residency stirred up controversy. One show featuring Nope actress Keke Palmer as an attendee became a trending topic. The Dallas-born, Atlanta-bred singer finally spoke about the relationship drama.

Back in July, Keke Palmer went viral on social media. Footage of the 29-year-old entertainer interacting with a serenading Usher at the Vegas show spread across the internet. Her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, criticized the mother of his newborn child for her attire that night.

“It’s the outfit tho… you a mom,” stated Darius Jackson in a now-deleted July 5 tweet. He then began receiving negative feedback for publicly chastising his partner. Some critics also called out Jackson for overreacting to the situation.

Usher seemingly reacted to the Keke Palmer/Darius Jackson situation on the Threads app. During the same week that Darius Jackson’s complaints became headline news, the 8-time Grammy winner posted, “Am I trending yet? 😅.”

Usher: I Don’t See Anything Negative Happening In Las Vegas

A new article from People features Usher directly addressing the backlash surrounding Keke Palmer’s actions at the Las Vegas show and Darius Jackson’s reaction. According to the Confessions album creator, his concerts produce positive experiences.

“I think everybody’s vision or a version of what they felt happened there just leads you back to just really having a good time in Las Vegas. And that’s what I hope came out of it,” said Usher. “Rather, it was a conversation of what was going on with us having fun in front of the audience or conversation about that song.”

He added, “Every night I’m thinking about how the world now is going to react to this moment that I’ll have with whoever I’m choosing to sing to. But it was a pop moment, and it was fun to have at least [a] conversation going and we just keep it light. I don’t see anything negative happening in Las Vegas.”

Throughout his career, Usher has released nine songs that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Four of his projects made it to the pinnacle of the Billboard 200 album chart. The 44-year-old musician recently joined forces with 21 Savage and Summer Walker for the new “Good Good” single.

Juicy J Applauds Rappers Sampling & Remaking Three 6 Mafia Songs

Three 6 Mafia is one of the most acclaimed Hip Hop groups to emerge from the South. Members of the collective, such as Juicy J, have won several industry awards including an Oscar for “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” from Hustle & Flow.

Numerous rap acts have borrowed elements from Three 6 Mafia’s music catalog over the years. According to Juicy J, the veteran rapper/producer appreciates his fellow recording artists using the Memphis natives as inspiration for new tunes.

“Peace & love to Three 6 Mafia, great to witness our music still going strong like it never [left], people across the world sampling & remaking the songs. We are grateful. Thank you all. #greatestgroupofalltime,” posted Juicy J on Twitter.

Fellow Memphis-bred rapper GloRilla recently interpolated “Slob on My Nob” by Tear Da Club Up Thugs, a subgroup of Three 6 Mafia, for her “Lick Or Sum” single. Offset’s new “Jealousy” collaboration featuring Cardi B samples Three 6 Mafia’s “Jealous Azz B####.”

Previously, Cardi B teamed up with G-Eazy and A$AP Rocky for the 7x-Platinum certified “No Limit” which adopted parts of the Tear Da Club Up Thugs’ “Slob on My Knob” track. A$AP Ferg also earned a 5x Multi-Platinum plaque for his “Slob on My Knob”-inspired “Plane Jane.”

In addition to Juicy J, Three 6 Mafia also included DJ Paul and Crunchy Black. Three of the group’s members – Lord Infamous, Koopsta Knicca, and Gangsta Boo – have passed away. Three 6 Mafia scored Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Stay Fly” in 2005, “Poppin’ My Collar” in 2006, and “Lolli Lolli (Pop That Body)” in 2018.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour Pays $100K To Extend Metro Train Hours

On August 3, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced the extension of the public train service for Beyoncé’s concert at FedEx Field. On the day of the event, a storm caused unattended delays for the Renaissance World Tour stop in the DC area.

According to reports, fans had to wait almost two hours for a shelter-in-place warning to end at FedEx Field before Beyoncé could hit the stage. That apparently led to the show ending after the Metro train service was scheduled to close.

In response, Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour paid $100,000 to make sure the Metro continued running following the August 6th show. The six-figure expense covered keeping all 98 stations in the Metro service open for fans traveling from the venue.

The Renaissance World Tour kicked off on May 10 at Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Beyoncé will hit Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 9. Then she heads to Atlanta for three dates inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Beyoncé released her Renaissance studio album on July 29, 2022. The project opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 332,000 first-week units. Renaissance hosts the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hits “Break My Soul” (No. 1) and “Cuff It” (No. 6).

Renaissance also won Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Plus, “Break My Soul” won Best Dance/Electronic Recording. “Cuff It” won Best R&B Song. “Plastic Off the Sofa” won Best Traditional R&B Performance.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour closes out in Kansas City’s GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on October 1. Other upcoming locations include Tampa, St. Louis, Inglewood, Vancouver, Houston, and New Orleans.

Pop Smoke’s Murder Possibly Linked To Dead Man Found In Barrel On Malibu Beach

The world lost Pop Smoke on February 19, 2020 after multiple people broke into the Hollywood Hills home where he was staying and fatally shot him.

New reports suggest Pop Smoke’s passing could be connected to another murder. According to TMZ, Los Angeles law enforcement officials have begun investigating a dead body found inside a barrel.

Apparently, someone discovered Javonnta Murphy, 32, inside the barrel on a Malibu beach. Murphy is said to be the brother of Jaquan Murphy, one of the original suspects in Pop Smoke’s murder, although Jaquan was later cleared.

Police also arrested four other suspects in the Pop Smoke case. In addition to Jaquan Murphy, Keandre D. Rodgers, Corey Walker and two unnamed teenagers faced various charges including first-degree murder.

While authorities cleared Jaquan Murphy of any charges in connection to Pop Smoke’s death, he currently awaits a criminal trial for an unrelated murder in Los Angeles County.

Earlier this year, one underage defendant pleaded guilty to home invasion robbery and received a sentence of four years and two months in a juvenile facility. Another underage defendant admitted to a first-degree murder charge.

Pop Smoke rose to national fame in 2019 with his breakout hit “Welcome to the Party.” Nicki Minaj jumped on the song’s official remix that year. 2020’s Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon album spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Ne-Yo has issued a statement apologizing for his recent remarks about parenting and gender identity, admitting he needs better education on the topic of transgender children.

The “She Knows” singer received a mixed response to an interview that aired over the weekend where he questioned parents who allow their kids to transition genders. He took to social media with a lengthy apology Sunday night (August 6).

“After much reflection, I’d like to express my deepest apologies to anyone that I may have hurt with my comments on parenting and gender identity,” Ne-Yo began.” I’ve always been an advocate for love and inclusivity in the LGBTQI+ community, so I understand how my comments could’ve been interpreted as insensitive and offensive.”

He added: “Gender identity is nuanced and I can honestly admit that I plan to better educate myself on the topic, so I can approach future conversations with more empathy. At the end of the day, I lead with love and support everyone’s freedom of expression and pursuit of happiness.”

Ne-Yo Questions Parents Who Allow Their Kids To Transition Genders

In an interview with Gloria Velez aired Saturday (August 5), Ne-Yo said he comes from a time “where a man was a man and a woman was a woman,” adding, “there was two genders.”

The father of seven continued, “You could identify as a goldfish if you feel like, I don’t care. That ain’t my business. It becomes my business when you try to make me play the game with you. I’m not gonna call you a goldfish. But if you wanna be a goldfish, you go be a goldfish. We live in a weird time, man. We do.”

Ne-Yo also said, “I feel like parents have almost forgotten what the role of a parent is,” questioning why a parent would listen to a young child’s expression of gender identity.

“If you let this 5-year-old boy decide to eat candy all day, he’s gonna do that,” he declared. When did it become a good idea to let a 5-year-old, let a 6-year-old, let a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision for themself? When did that happen? I don’t understand.”

The Just-Us League Is Formed In Montgomery Alabama!

Yo, it was straight-up mayhem on Saturday evening down in Alabama near the iconic Montgomery Riverfront Park. Social media’s going crazy with footage of an all-out brawl that went down, and guess what? Some folks were arrested!

So here’s the deal: around 7 p.m., the cops got a call about a major disturbance going down in the 200 block of Coosa Street. When they rolled up to the scene, they found a massive group of people throwing down in a full-on brawl! The police statement said they nabbed several people involved in the mess, and now, they’re holding them pending possible charges.

But hold up, here’s where it gets wild! Reports suggest the whole madness started when a pontoon boat, carrying a bunch of white folks, decided to park themselves at the riverfront, blocking a riverboat from docking.

A Black security guard, just doing his job, asked the folks on the pontoon to move their behinds. But instead of cooperating, these white dudes went berserk and started attacking the security guard. They jumped him!

When the riverboat finally managed to dock, The Just Us League took formation! The brothas and sistas from the riverboat had a beatdown party on behalf of the security guard. People were going in! Women were getting whacked and jaws were getting cracked! It was total bedlam!

When the dust finally settled, the cops swooped in and arrested several folks who were involved in this chaotic mess. They will have some serious explaining to do, especially the man that hit that sitting white lady witih a folding chair.

Bro was buggin!

Yo, let’s remember, violence ain’t the answer, unless you jump a brother. Do not play in front of our collective face and think we won’t handle the business! The Just-Us League is here!!!!

By the way, somebody needs to give that lady a job in commentating!

EXCLUSIVE: Masika Kalysha Dishes On The Toxic Reality Behind “Love & Hip-Hop”

Former “Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood” star, Masika Kalysha, didn’t hold back in a recent interview where she expressed her dissatisfaction with the reality show.

Kalysha, who also appeared in We TV’s “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta,” criticized the show’s producers for their handling of the cast and storylines.

“I was totally fine with it initially because it is what it is, you know, I don’t care what you think of me, it’s a platform and I’m gonna use it,” Kalysha said. “But then once I had my daughter, I’m like, you’re not about to use my daughter as clickbait… you’re not about to use my family to get some views and then something that she can Google later.”

During the interview, Kalysha shared her feelings of manipulation by the show’s producers and her dissatisfaction with her portrayal on the series.

“I didn’t know that everything was going to be produced, contrived, controlled… to the point where you can only film with their people,” she said. “I would have my real life and then my TV life and then the two don’t mix together,” Masika said.

Despite her challenging experiences with “Love & Hip-Hop,” Masika Kalysha has continued to progress in her career.

She has released several singles, including “Andale” featuring Fetty Wap, and “My Own,” a song about her relationship with the rapper.

Beyond her music and acting careers, Kalysha is also a successful entrepreneur. In 2016, she launched Khari Barbie Beauty, a cosmetics line that is vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and paraben-free.

“Kharibarbiebeauty.com, my cosmetic line, we have great products right now, but we are expanding. We’re going to be a full makeup line this year. So I’m super excited about that,” Masika told AllHipHop.com.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Developing New Musical Based On Movie Popular With Hip-Hop Culture

Lin-Manuel Miranda is reportedly adapting The Warriors novel into a stage musical.

According to reports, the “Hamilton” creator is adapting Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel “The Warriors” into a musical.

The novel previously inspired the 1979 action thriller directed by Walter Hill.

Both the novel and film followed a fictional street gang in New York City, who travel from The Bronx to their home turf in Coney Island after being framed for the murder of their gang leader.

Miranda recently polished the lyrics on John Kander and Fred Ebb’s musical “New York, New York” for its 2023 Broadway run.

He also appeared as himself for two runs of “Freestyle Love Supreme” in 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.

His previous Broadway productions include “In the Heights,” “Bring It On: The Musical,” and “Hamilton,” which premiered in 2015 and is still running at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York.

In the world of screen, Miranda contributed songs to the Disney movies “Moana,” “Encanto,” and “The Little Mermaid,” and made his feature directorial debut with “Tick, Tick… Boom!” in 2021.

He has also acted in projects such as “Mary Poppins Returns,” the “In the Heights” movie adaptation, “His Dark Materials,” and the upcoming “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series.

Jonathan Majors Gets New Trial Date For Alleged Assault

Jonathan Majors’ assault trial has been delayed to September.

The “Creed III” star returned to court in New York for what was scheduled to be the beginning of the trial, however, it has now been delayed as the prosecution stated that they were not ready because they are still obtaining discovery.

The 33-year-old entered the courthouse with his girlfriend, actress Meagan Good, and approached the bench at 9:42 a.m. with his criminal defence lawyer Priya Chaudhry.

Majors’ lawyer filed a motion to delay the trial, claiming that the prosecutors were not “timely” in turning over evidence. As a result, a new trial date has been set for September 6.

Jonathan Majors was arrested in Manhattan in March and charged with assault and aggravated harassment in relation to an alleged domestic dispute with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, who was unnamed at the time of his arrest.

Majors has pleaded not guilty to the four charges levelled against him and has continued to maintain his innocence.

Chaudhry claimed that Jabbari, 30, had assaulted Majors, rather than the other way around.

The actor’s team has also suggested that “racial bias” has played a part in the investigation.

In addition to Jabbari’s claims, Rolling Stone published a bombshell report last month involving more than 40 sources who have allegedly known Majors.

In the report, multiple sources alleged that the actor had been abusive in two prior relationships.

They claimed he allegedly strangled a woman he had dated and was mentally and emotionally abusive during their time together.

Responding to the claims, Majors’ attorney Dustin A. Pusch stated, “Jonathan Majors vehemently denies Rolling Stone’s false allegations that he physically, verbally, or emotionally abused anyone, let alone any of his past romantic partners.”

Lizzo Dancers Respond To Her Denial Of Being A Terrifying Boss

Lizzo’s former backup dancers have hit back after the “Truth Hurts” singer broke her silence following the lawsuit they filed against her earlier this week.

The 35-year-old has been sued by the dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, who have accused her of sexual, racial, and religious harassment and creating a hostile work environment, among other claims.

Lizzo addressed the allegations on Thursday, denying the claims and labelled them “outrageous.”

“I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days,” the Grammy Award winner wrote in the statement. “I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not.”

Soon after Lizzo’s statement was posted, the dancers reacted to it during an interview with Channel 4.

“Initially for me, it just further deepened my disappointment in regards to how I was feeling and how I was treated,” Williams, who joined Lizzo’s dance team in 2021, said.

“I think the overall theme in all this is that our experiences were our experiences and our traumas were our traumas. In bringing that forward, it feels like it was disregarded completely,” Williams added. “It feels like we were made out to be putting out false allegations when that’s not the case.

“So yes, it was very disheartening to read and feel overlooked especially when she stands for what she stands for in regards to women’s empowerment – being an advocate for mental health, being an advocate for body positivity – and to just further prove that that’s not the case, because nothing was acknowledged in that statement,” the dancer stated.

Additionally, in a joint appearance with Williams on CBS News, Davis addressed her claims that Lizzo had forced her to touch a nude performer while in a strip club in Amsterdam.

“I did not ask for it. I said no multiple times,” Davis, who also joined the team in 2021, said. “I was very, very mortified, everyone burst into laughter,” she added.

In addition to Lizzo, the lawsuit was filed against her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. and dance captain Shirlene Quigley.

EXCLUSIVE: OVO Signed Rapper, Smiley Talks Signing to Drake, and New Mixtape ‘I Did What I Did’

Recently Toronto-based OVO Sound-rapper Smiley spoke about his new project, I Did What I Did. The project is a precursor to his yet-to-be-titled new album and follows up a bundle of material over the past few years, including a highly regarded Drake feature on the song Over The Top.”

Speaking with Smiley before he boarded a flight last week to Los Angeles, the Canadian emcee spoke about wanting to feed the streets as he headed west to record and rejuvenate on a self-imposed well-being retreat.

“With I Did What I Did, basically, I have so much music in the vault that I finally, like, put something together quick while I’m still working on my album. I just wanted to feed the streets,” Smiley said.

“I just basically came up with the name by just picking out a lot of quotables from the songs on the tape. And then I Did What I Did was one that stood out the most to me. ‘Cause like, it’s super relatable, and it’s just how, like, how I’m going with this, you know?”

When asked about why he thinks OVO took his music into consideration and signed him, Smiley said he knows the fans want that “raw s###,” and he tries not to “overthink it.”

“I just don’t really overthink it. Before, I used to overthink a lot, but like now, I don’t try to overthink when I’m writing and stuff,” Smiley said. “I try to really just do the same thing. Like, I don’t try to… I try to change my songs a bit sometimes, but then I realize I’m like, they want that raw sh*t from me.”

Still focused on mastering his craft, Smiley says he even catches Drake off guard with some of the lines in his songs.

“Sometimes I’ll just say s### like, and he’ll [Drake] be like, ‘No way he said that in there.’ And that’s what just makes me, me, you know?” Smiley said.  “I’m still trying to, like, figure out ways to like, really like, understand my craft and get deeper into it so I could do multiple different things, you know?  I’m trying to master my craft.”

Rap fans interested in checking out the newly minted OVO-Sound rapper should listen to the newly released mixtape, which features nine tracks, including the currently released songs ‘Fast Route,’Nicky Nine Door,’ ‘Eternals,’ and most recent track ‘Long Nights.”

EXCLUSIVE: Tupac Shakur’s Brother Confirms Biggie Smalls Was Supposed To Join Thug Life

Thug Life member Mopreme Shakur, the brother of Tupac, discussed their history with The Notorious B.I.G. in an interview with AllHipHop’s Chuck Creekmur.

Mopreme verified rumors of Tupac recruiting Biggie Smalls for Thug Life when asked if B.I.G. was ever meant to be part of the group.

“There is some validity to that,” Tupac’s brother told AllHipHop. “Before things fell apart, Pac was a uniter. We knew we were from New York. We knew we were from the East Coast. And Pac liked to work with the best talent around. So, there was a period, there was a time when we was all cool. There was a time when Pac wanted Biggie to be part of the East Coast faction of Thug Life ‘cause we was kicking it with each other anyway. Pac wasn’t just a hater just to be hating. He liked [Biggie].”

Mopreme also vented about the way the American system treated his family in his conversation with AllHipHop. He remained vexed over the amount of scrutiny Tupac faced.

“What Pac did was dare to fight,” Mopreme said. “He dared to fight back, he dared to say something. He dared to question the police, and it comes with a certain amount of baggage.”
