Wyclef Jean Confirms Fugees Reunion Tour Returning In 2024

Wyclef Jean was sitting in his car when he hopped on the Zoom call. Wearing his signature shades and emanating his terminally cool swagger, the Fugees MC was fired up about his latest endeavor, a partnership with retirement service provider TIAA and First Generation Investors (FGI).

Last month, Wyclef debuted a new single called “Paper Right” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which addresses the financial disparity in our country. He was joined by Pusha T, Lola Brooke, Capella Grey and Flau’jae, who all shared their individual experiences.

But that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg for Wyclef. Toward the end of the call, he confirmed the Fugees will indeed resume their reunion tour this year—despite some skepticism from their fans that it would. He also revealed he’s working on some new music with Lil Wayne that he’s not quite ready to talk about yet—but it’s coming.

“I would say to everybody we’re picking back up on the Fugees tour this year,” he told AllHipHop. “If you missed the Fugees last year, catch the Fugees this year. Another big thing I’m excited about is my Netflix movie called Prince of Port au Prince, which is based on my childhood and how I escaped poverty through imagination, so look out for that. That’s going to be amazing. Me and Lil. Wayne, we’re in the studio working on some secret, cool music. So, yeah, a lot of good things to look out for in 2024. We’re coming for sure. 100 percent.”

Fugees—comprised of Lauryn Hill, Wyclef and Pras—embarked on reunion tour in 2021 to celebrate 25 years of The Score. They again reunited last year as part of Hill’s anniversary tour celebration of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. But in November 2023,  Hill postponed most of the remaining dates and explained on social media that she has “been battling serious vocal strain.”

In order to recover fully, Hill said she’ll have to reschedule the remaining 2023 concerts for early next year. But nearly three months into the new year, a new itinerary has yet to be announced, leaving some fans to conclude it won’t be happening at all. But with Wyclef’s declaration, it looks like Fugees fans just need to have a little more patience.

Chris Brown Rips NBA After His Celebrity All-Star Game Invite Gets Pulled

Chris Brown was fuming Friday night (February 16) after he learned the National Basketball Association (NBA) disinvited him from playing in the upcoming Celebrity All-Star Game. Taking to his Instagram Stories, the controversial singer blasted the NBA, suggesting the league had succumb to cancel culture. Brown, of course, was arrested for the 2009 domestic assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

“I was asked by the NBA to play in the all star game this year!” he told his 145 million followers. “Only for them to call later and say they couldn’t do IT because of their sponsors like RUFFLES. At this point I’m sick of people bothering me and I’m tired of living in the past f###ing past. I POSTED THE EMAILS SO YALL COULD SEE. The NBA still was tryna get me to come and sit court side …. NOT F###ING HAPPENING.”

He added, “I go where I’m appreciated.”

The Ruffles brand responded to Brown’s latest controversy in a statement sent to AllHipHop. It read: “Ruffles sponsored last night’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, however Ruffles did not have any involvement in, nor visibility to, any player decisions or celebrity invite discussions.”

Chris Brown frequently rants about what he perceives as unfair treatment by media and other people. Last November, he was slammed for dancing to Kanye West’s “Vultures” while dancing next to West at a party in Dubai. The song addresses West’s 2022 antisemitism controversy and features the line, “How I’m antisemitic? I just f###ed a Jewish b####.”

Brown quickly took to Instagram to insist he’s not antisemitic. Instead, he touted his ties to the Bloods street gang, by claiming he wasn’t Muslim or Jewish—he’s a Piru.

“In no way shape or form am I antisemetic (sic)!!! I’m pro life and I make music for the entire world!!!!!! So please do not get tricked into thinking I spread hate or am kool with it (sic)!” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “This (is) for the million of young kids that look up to (me) and may be confused.

“Let me make this perfectly clear before yall try to use me as a pawn. Ima Piru. I ain’t Muslim or Jewish so don’t start no s### won’t be no s###!!! I’m trying to be peaceful but please do not wake up the demon in me!”

Kim Kardashian has divulged the qualities she wants from her ideal romantic partner. The 43-year-old reality star, who shares four children with her ex-husband Kanye West, has explained what she looks for in a potential suitor.

During the interview, Kim revealed she is open to finding love again, but won’t settle for just anyone.

“There’ll be moods where I’m just like, you know what? I understand my life is really big and I understand it takes a really, really, really special, unique person to want to deal with that,” she shared. “I think my life is really fun and whoever comes in my life will have a really good time, but it’s a lot.”

The Kardashians star went on to explain that she is currently happy being single.

“I’m not lonely, so I’m good,” Kim Kardashian told the podcast host. “I have my kids, I have work, I have my family, but it would be nice to share your life with someone, but when you do, it’s such a big (commitment), I don’t take that lightly.”

Kim is reportedly dating American football star Odell Beckham Jr.. However, they have not confirmed the rumors.

Donald Trump Claims “Fat” Photo Of Himself Is Fake: “These Are Despicable People”

Donald Trump was just slapped with a $355 million fine from the State of New York, but evidently he’s more concerned about an unflattering photo of himself making the rounds. On Friday (February 16), hours after Trump appeared in court, the former president addressed a photo of himself playing golf that depicted him with a bulging beer gut. He claims the photo was generated by artificial intelligence and is, in fact, not even him.

Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump contested, “The Fake News used Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to create the picture on the top left. These are despicable people, but everyone knows that. The other pictures are me hitting golf balls today to show the difference. Sadly, in our country, fake news is all you get!”

Donald Trump was not only fined the massive amount in his civil fraud case, he was also banned from serving as a director or officer of any New York corporation for three years. Judge Arthur Engoron handed down the punishment at the end of a three-month trial. Trump was found liable of conspiring to inflate his net worth to deceive banks and others.

Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba claimed Engoron’s decision was the culmination of a witch hunt and plans to appeal the ruling.

“This is not just about Donald Trump,” Habba said. “If this decision stands, it will serve as a signal to every single American that New York is no longer open for business.”

Engoron, meanwhile, cited Trump’s refusal to admit error in the ruling and said Trump would only continue to exploit the system if he wasn’t severely punished.

“This Court is not constituted to judge morality; it is constituted to find facts and apply the law,” the judge wrote. “In this particular case, in applying the law to the facts, the Court intends to protect the integrity of the financial marketplace and, thus, the public as a whole.

“Defendants’ refusal to admit error—indeed, to continue it, according to the Independent Monitor—constrains this Court to conclude that they will engage in it going forward unless judicially restrained. Indeed, Donald Trump testified that, even today, he does not believe the Trump Organization needed to make any changes based on the facts that came out during this trial.”

Trump, who’s running for president yet again, has been impeached twice. He’s also facing four criminal cases: two election interference cases, a classified documents case and hush money case.

Blac Youngsta: Brother’s Alleged Killer Hit With $1M Bond Following Six-Month Manhunt

Randy Ewing, the man accused of killing the brother of Memphis rapper Blac Youngsta, appeared in court on Thursday morning (February 15). According to WREG, he learned he’d have to come up with $1 million if he wanted to secure his bond. Ewing is being held in connection to the death of Tomanuel Benson.

“You’ve also been charged with an A felony, second-degree murder,” the judge told the 28-year-old. “That carries 15 to 60 years if you are convicted.”

Benson was gunned down outside of a BP gas station on South Parkway East in August 2023. Court documents say Benson and Ewing were seen squabbling before the shooting. At one point Benson turned his back and Ewing seized the opportunity to allegedly shoot him in the head and fire more shots into a vehicle. Another man was also shot but survived.

Law enforcement officers have been looking for Ewing for more than six months. In fact, U.S Marshals were offering a $5,000 reward for any information that could lead to his arrest. They got a break in the case on Tuesday night (February 13), when he was spotted walking on Creighton Avenue in Memphis. He tried to run into a home and received several warnings to surrender, but officers were forced to release a K-9. Ewing was eventually taken into custody after a stop at the hospital for a bite to his leg. He was reportedly armed with a stolen gun.

Ewing faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder, attempted murder, theft, evading arrest and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Blac Youngsta addressed Benson’s murder on social media. He wrote: “I Love U My Baby Brother Rest Up. I’m Gone Make The World Pay. I Swear To God. Nobody Safe. Standing Over Everybody. Everybody. 4LIFE. I’m Ready For Whatever Come With This S###. It’s Ok. Don’t Feel Sorry For Me. I’m Not Gone Feel Sorry For Nobody. Only God Knows. Gone Make Sure They Feel Me. I Promise. Life Will Never Be The Same. But God Got Me. I’m The Strongest Man N The World.”

Blac Youngsta’s other brothers, Ronnie B and HeavyChampTD, were also victims of shootings in 2016 and 2019, respectively.

In other CMG-related news, police are still seeking the suspect who gunned down Yo Gotti’s brother, Anthony “Big Jook” Mims, who was fatally shot after leaving a repass on January 13. Mims was laid to rest on January 31 in Memphis amidst heavy police presence. Snipers on rooftops, helicopters and police guarded the area, while his family hired 25 armed guards to protect the funeral services.

Young Dolph Murder “Mastermind” Rebuked For “Playing Fast & Loose” With Court

The man accused of masterminding the murder of beloved rapper Young Dolph was chastised by a judge who is reviewing his request to have the conditions of his house arrest relaxed.

Hernandez Govan’s involvement in Young Dolph’s November 2021 murder as the organizer of the hit, as alleged by prosecutors, has led to charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Govan was arrested in November 2022, after which he was granted a $90,000 bond and placed under house arrest.

Govan’s attorney filed a motion to review his bond conditions earlier this week. According to the documents, Govan seeks employment to provide for his wife and family.

In a tense courtroom moment, Shelby County Judge Jennifer Mitchell sternly warned Hernandez Govan for his perceived carelessness, lax attitude, and disregard for court mandates.

During the court session, Judge Mitchell did not mince words, expressing dissatisfaction with Govan’s behavior while out on bond.

“Mr. Govan, I don’t have to tell you how serious these charges are,” the judge began, setting the tone for the reprimand that followed. The judge criticized Govan for “playing fast and loose with the court” and its stipulations, indicating a blatant disrespect for the judicial process.

Judge Mitchell’s irritation was mainly sparked by Govan’s decision to engage in media interviews, actions deemed reckless and indicative of a lack of understanding of the situation’s gravity.

“You’re doing interviews… and the court doesn’t like the fact that you feel free enough to do interviews,” the judge stated, emphasizing the potential risks associated with Govan’s public appearances.

The judge made it abundantly clear that until further notice, Govan was to refrain from any form of media interaction.

“You are to not have any interviews with anybody for any reason,” Judge Mitchell mandated, reinforcing the directive sternly.

Govan’s latest request seemed moot in light of his recent actions. He previously asked to have his house arrest conditions lightened, but the previous judge featured Govan would be killed due to his alleged role in Young Dolph’s murder, which many believe was sparked by his feud with fellow Memphis rapper Yo Gotti.

Govan’s daughter, Lotta Cash Desto, was killed, as was Blac Youngsta’s brother. A suspect in that case was caught earlier this week, but the suspect who killed Yo Gotti’s brother, Big Jook, is still on the loose.

As the legal proceedings trudge forward, with a review of Govan’s bond conditions scheduled for March 1, the judge’s parting words served as a stark reminder of the severity of the situation.

“Please don’t give me any reason to revoke this bond,” the judge concluded, leaving no room for ambiguity regarding the expectations set forth.

Did Gunna Address Rumored Beef With Lil Baby On “Bittersweet” Single?

Gunna returned this week with a brand-new song. “Bittersweet” has some people wondering if the Atlanta-raised hitmaker extended an olive branch to his estranged musical partner Lil Baby.

YSL Records and 300 Entertainment released “Bittersweet” on Friday (February 16). A music video directed by Spike Jones also premiered on YouTube. Those visuals began trending on the platform.

“You my dawg. I don’t care if we fall out, n####, I never could diss you,” Gunna raps on the Working on Dying-produced “Bittersweet” track. Some listeners assumed he was referring to “My Dawg” rapper Lil Baby in those lyrics.

The “Drip Too Hard” collaborators apparently fell out in recent years. Baby allegedly took issue with Gunna accepting an Alford plea deal in 2022. Georgia prosecutors indicted the man born Sergio Kitchens in the ongoing RICO case against YSL frontman Young Thug.

Many Hip-Hop fans speculated that Lil Baby called his former friend a “rat” on the “350” song in 2023. Additionally, the fellow Atlanta native may have used a moment on stage to slam Gunna for supposedly “snitching” on Thug and other co-defendants. Kitchens has denied cooperating with the prosecution.

Before any possible tension between the two men became public, Gunna and Lil Baby worked closely together on records like the diamond-certified “Drip Too Hard” collaboration. They also dropped the Drip Harder joint mixtape in 2018.

Ice Cube Discusses New Film On Shorty Of The Lench Mob

A groundbreaking documentary offers an unprecedented look into one of Hip-Hop’s hidden figures and his personal journey.

“Comin’ Up Short,” a film by Queen Muhammad Ali and Hakeem Khaaliq, explores the life of Jerome “Shorty” Muhammad, known for his deep connections with Ice Cube and his transition from a gang leader to a protector in the rap community.

“You’ll never find a dude that’s more loyal. [Shorty] was our conscience in a lot of ways. He would tell us things like how we should be living, the things that we needed to stay away from,” said Ice Cube in an exclusive clip given to AllHipHop.

Shorty’s musical journey hit a zenith when close friend J-Dee, T-Bone, and Ice Cube, founded Da Lench Mob. This rap crew stayed connected to streets of Los Angeles, but was also infused with Black Nationalism. In 1992, Da Lench Mob released Guerillas in tha Mist, a debut album earned platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America in 1992.

The documentary highlights all of Shorty’s accomplishments, musically and otherwise.

It is also distinguished by its focus on Shorty’s narrative through a solitary monologue. In this manner he’s able to discuss his personal views like the covert – seemingly governmental – operations that introduced guns and drugs into African American neighborhoods. Ali and Khaaliq’s decision to spotlight Shorty’s storytelling ability offers viewers a unique and intimate portrayal of a man whose life inspired many of Ice Cube’s lyrics, bridging the gap between fiction and reality.

“Ice Cube’s stories in many songs are the real-life stories of Shorty because Shorty was the real deal,” said Khaaliq, a director and cinematographer

Produced independently by Nation19 and Ice Cube, “Comin’ Up Short” has garnered critical acclaim, receiving awards and praise for its ability to unify former rival gang members at screenings. The documentary’s music, composed by Masaniai Muhammad Ali and Queen Muhammad Ali, further enriches the film’s narrative, capturing the essence of the struggles and triumphs depicted.

“It felt like a mini Million Man March [at the premier] because it was all love in that theater, and the place was packed,” said DJ Chilly Chill, a legendary music producer who has worked with Cube, Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, Rick James, Ike Turner, Public Enemy, Lupe Fiasco, Bun B, and many more.

The film recently earned recognition from the British Film Institute (BFI) for its contribution to cinema, underscoring its impact beyond American borders. A special screening in London emphasized the documentary’s role in promoting positive representations of Muslims in media.

“Instead of shooting a hundred different talking head interviews, we decided early on to focus only on Shorty since he is an amazing storyteller,” said Director Queen Muhammad Ali, who has known Shorty since she was very young at Los Angeles Mosque #27. “Ice Cube’s stories in many songs are the real-life stories of Shorty, because Shorty was the real deal,” said director and cinematographer Hakeem Khaaliq.

Shorty’s influence on Da Lench Mob and his guidance on living a better life are evident throughout the documentary. “Comin’ Up Short” is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime and Freevee, offering audiences a rare glimpse into the complexities of gangster rap’s history and the figures who shaped its legacy.

The film is available to watch on Amazon Prime and Freevee.

Young Thug RICO Trial: Lawyer Busted For Gang-Related Charges

An attorney involved in the Young Thug and Young Slime Life (YSL) RICO trial faces multiple charges related to gang activities, the Atlanta Police Department has confirmed.

Nicole Fegan, who represented Tenquarius Mender in the high-profile case, was charged with criminal street gang activity and solicitation to commit evidence tampering linked to a deadly 2022 shooting investigation.

Fegan is accused of contacting a suspect she was not representing to warn him that cops were coming to arrest him over a shooting while advising him to dispose of his phone. According to WSB-TV Channel 2, Fegan has been released on a $40,000 bond and has maintained her innocence.

The last time Fegan was in the news was for something much less ominous: she was pregnant. Prosecutors claimed her pregnancy would delay the trial for Young Thug and the other members of YSL.

“I don’t think pregnancy should be treated as a disease or a disability,” Fegan told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “If Rihanna can do it, I’m sure that we can both adequately represent our clients.”

Fegan’s client, Tenquarius Mender, is related to Quantavius Mender, who was arrested for menacing Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat and his wife via social media—and is accused of issuing 23 terroristic threat charges.

This 18-year-old suspect is alleged to have focused his threats on Sheriff Labat and his wife, Jacki, motivated by the detention of Young Thug on charges related to the RICO case.

He reportedly demanded the artist’s release, threatening harm to the Labats in messages, including a direct statement: “#freethug or Imma sh00t u and your wife.”

Moreover, Mender is suspected of disseminating these menacing messages through the Labats’ Instagram profiles and further communicating threats to the Georgia State Patrol, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fulton Clerk of Court.

Blueface Might Have Another Baby Coming After Third Woman Claims His Seed

A woman who goes by Bonnie Lashay has come forward as the alleged mother of Blueface’s next child. Lashay recently shared an Instagram post featuring a photo of what appears to be a protruding baby bump, soundtracked by her “That’s My Daddy” remix of Blueface’s Dirt Bag track “Daddy” featuring Rich The Kid.

”I’m nervous,” Lashay wrote. “blue face baby. Stay Tuned.”

While there’s no confirming how valid Lashay’s pregnancy claims are at the moment, considering Blueface is locked up in Los Angeles County Men’s Jail, the pair have been linked together since 2021. In videos on her Instagram, her toddler son also appears to call Blueface “Daddy Blue.”

Earlier this month, Lashay posted a video of herself to her Instagram account getting a Blueface tattoo. Unlike Chrisean Rock, who recently got his mugshot tatted on her face, Lashay opted to get his face stamped on her derrière.

”Got his face tatted where he loves to put his face at,” she wrote. “I love blue sooo much A&F. Should I do his face on my face next?” Check out the tattoo below.

Donald Trump Hammered With Massive Fine & New York Ban In Fraud Case

Donald Trump suffered a major defeat in a civil fraud case on Friday (February 16). A New York judge fined him more than $350 million and banned the former president from serving as a director or officer of any New York corporation for three years.

Judge Arthur Engoron handed down the harsh punishment at the end of a three-month trial. Trump was found liable of conspiring to inflate his net worth to deceive banks and others.

Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba claimed the judge’s decision was the culmination of a witch hunt. Habba planned to appeal the ruling.

“This is not just about Donald Trump,” the attorney said. “If this decision stands, it will serve as a signal to every single American that New York is no longer open for business.”

Judge Engoron cited Trump’s refusal to admit error in the ruling. The judge determined the court needed to fine and ban Trump because the former president would continue to exploit the system otherwise.

“This Court is not constituted to judge morality; it is constituted to find facts and apply the law,” the judge wrote. “In this particular case, in applying the law to the facts, the Court intends to protect the integrity of the financial marketplace and, thus, the public as a whole. Defendants’ refusal to admit error—indeed, to continue it, according to the Independent Monitor—constrains this Court to conclude that they will engage in it going forward unless judicially restrained. Indeed, Donald Trump testified that, even today, he does not believe the Trump Organization needed to make any changes based on the facts that came out during this trial.”

Trump suffered the legal loss while running for president. The twice-impeached politician also faced four criminal cases. He was indicted in two election interference cases, a classified documents case and a hush money case.

“It don’t bother me,” Bow Wow said. “It don’t bother me at all. It don’t. It’s not even a bragging rights thing. You know some cats would be like, ‘Oh, I was the first person’ … [There are] so many fish in the sea. I mean people gonna like who they like. People are gonna date who they wanna date. And as long as it ain’t a potna. Like to me, that’s when the s### gets weird. Like if it’s one of my bros or it’s some s### like that.”

All honesty, there’s been times where I coulda—put it this way: you never wanna trip when the woman is not yours no more because you never know. Jim Jones Might Have Spoiled Dave East’s Valentine’s Day

Dave East’s plans for Valentine’s Day allegedly went up in flames thanks to Dipset member Jim Jones. According to Page Six, East and his date left the Soho House in New York after Jones swooped in and secured a VIP table that East expected to get on Wednesday (February 14).

“Why is he sitting there?” East reportedly asked. “We were here before anybody else.”

Jones, Chrissy Lampkin and their entourage were sitting at the VIP table to see singer Jon B perform at the Soho House on Valentine’s Day. An associate of East allegedly tried to resolve the issue. East reportedly was fed up with the situation and decided to leave.

“It’s way too packed in here, and I am not standing up in this crowd,” East allegedly said. “What am I suppose to do — just stand here? Nah, we out.”

Page Six claimed East’s date wanted to find a way for them to stay and see Jon B’s performance, but the rapper grabbed her hand and escorted her out of Soho House. Jones and East’s reps did not respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

East did not let his Valentine’s Day misfortune ruin his week as he dropped a new album titled For the Love on Friday (February 16). East teamed up with DJ/producer Scram Jones for the project, which was released exclusively on FTDNYC.com.

The love-themed album included 12 tracks with just one guest appearance. East’s latest project is available for $5.99. He is also selling shirts and bandanas featuring the album’s cover artwork on the same website.

Troy Ave Taken Into Custody; Gets One-Year Prison Sentence Over 2016 Shooting

Troy Ave has revealed he’ll be spending time behind bars in connection to a shooting case that occurred nearly eight years ago.

On Thursday (February 15), Troy Ave reported to court about the deadly 2016 Irving Plaza shooting involving podcast host Taxstone. The incident ultimately claimed the claimed the life of bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter. Troy Ave shared a video to his Instagram account before the hearing and alluded to turning himself in.

“Alright, y’all,” Troy said in the video. “They might cheat me, you might not see me for a while. But just know the streets is a myth. All them people that was in the car with me, I end up taking the guns. Somebody shot at me, and instead of laying down and dying, I’d have been a hero, a martyr, I took the gun and bust back.”

Troy Ave continued, requesting prayers from his fans as he navigates the “consequences” of the situation.

“And there you have it.” he said. “Here go the consequences. But we don’t cry over spilt milk. We take the lemons and make lemonade. God is great, and the paper’s straight. Y’all keeps it cool. Y’all keep running it up. Send the prayers up. Prayers count more than anything.”

A post shared by Troy Ave (@troyave)

Shortly after the video began circulating on social media, Troy Ave’s attorney John B. Stella released the official statement regarding the sentencing.

“Roland Collins [Troy Ave] was sentenced on 2/9/24 to 1 year jail on his plea to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree,” the statement reads. “Under the law he must serve 8 months to satisfy that sentence. Since he previously spent almost 2 months in jail before he made bail, the remaining balance of time he must serve is a little over 6 months.”

Troy Ave’s sentence follows Taxstone getting slapped with 35 years in prison last June after being convicted of manslaughter. In a YouTube video titled “Today I Go to Jail for Defending Myself Against a HATER Who Tried to K*ll Me,” Troy Ave discussed details of the case and revealed he will deliver new music next month.

Afro Latina artist Somaya Reece is poised for a dynamic resurgence with her new single, “Witness Glory.” In a recent conversation, she characterized the song as embodying a genuine and unfiltered sound, which delves deeply into her personal narrative and exhibits her openness. With a vision to introduce meaningful music and establish equilibrium in the music world, Somaya seeks to resonate with individuals who have faced adversity and melancholy, aiming to be a beacon of hope in today’s complex society. “Witness Glory” serves not only as a reentry into the music industry but also as evidence of her knack for producing appealing tunes that resonate with contemporary listeners and carry uplifting themes of victory and resilience. “I advocate for female empowerment through my music,” Somaya states, highlighting her commitment to bolstering women’s confidence. Her distinctive approach to blending singing and rapping with a bold touch, in both English and Spanish, distinguishes her as an artist devoted to enriching the music landscape.

Growing up in poverty as the child of Salvadoran immigrants in South Central Los Angeles, Somaya Reece’s story is one of perseverance and ambition. Influenced by the legendary Celia Cruz from a tender age, she pursued music, excelling as a violinist and leading her school’s choir. Acknowledged by XXL as a “Female Emcee You Need To Know,” Somaya’s style has been compared to Pitbull’s Spanish rhythm, leading to her opening for and touring with him on the Calle Ocho tour in Miami and across Latin America. Now the head of her own label, La Rosa Ent., Somaya Reece is marking her impactful return to the music industry with “Witness Glory” after taking a 5-year break from music. The single is slated for an independent release via Tunecore, symbolizing a pivotal chapter in her career.

Boosie Badazz Blasts USHER Again: “You Can’t Put Your Genitals On A Man’s Wife”

Boosie Badazz does not hold his tongue when sharing his opinions. The Baton Rouge native called out USHER for embracing Alicia Keys during their “My Boo” performance at Super Bowl LVIII.

The 41-year-old rapper has now doubled down on his criticism of USHER hugging Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz’s wife, from behind on stage at the NFL’s big game. Boosie slammed the legendary R&B singer again while getting his haircut.

“That is a man’s wife, bro. You cannot put your genitals on the back of a man’s wife,” Boosie Badazz told someone off-camera in his latest rant posted to social media. “‘Cause everywhere I go they’ve been on my ass, and I’m gonna stand up for what I say ’cause I’m a real one.”

He continued, “First of all, it wasn’t planned because of the reaction on her face… If it was planned, she would have had time to ask her husband was this okay. I feel like both of them would’ve said no because they know how social media will take something like that.”

Despite Boosie Badazz’s Complaints, Swizz Beatz Celebrated Alicia Keys & USHER’s Duet

Previously, Boosie wrote on Instagram, “@USHER ENOUGH IS ENOUGH BRO!! U NEED TO APOLOGIZE TO [SWIZZ BEATZ]. SHE [IS] MARRIED MY N####. I KNOW THAT WASN’T PLANNED.” His message to the “Yeah!” hitmaker went viral.

In contrast, Swizz Beatz publicly showed support for Alicia Keys and USHER after their Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show moment became a trending topic on social media. The accomplished music producer stated, “Congrats @usher and my love @aliciakeys that song is a classic. We don’t do negative vibes on this side, we make history.”

Alicia Keys also appeared to shrug off the criticism over the Super Bowl hug by expressing her love for Swizz Beatz on Valentine’s Day. On Wednesday (February 14), the Songs in A Minor album creator posted, “You mesmerize me… I can’t wait to spend the rest of forever loving you.”

Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” Headed To Country Radio With Support From iHeartMedia

Beyoncé tapped back into her southern roots with her latest singles. Both “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” lean into a country music sound that could place the Houston native at the top of the genre.

HitsDailyDouble reports that Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” will impact country radio beginning on February 20. The outlet also maintains the Sony Nashville-backed song will get support from broadcast giant iHeartMedia.

“Beyoncé is an innovator who continues to push the creative boundaries in music,” iHeartMedia executives Tom Poleman and John Sykes conveyed in a joint statement about the entertainment megastar’s latest musical offering.

The reported push for “Texas Hold ‘Em” on country radio came after there appeared to be some pushback from certain radio stations. According to HDD, “Texas Hold ‘Em” will also play on pop and rhythmic radio. Industry forecasts project the surprise release to debut inside the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Beyoncé already took over iTunes and several streaming platforms. Different versions of “Texas Hold ‘Em” hold five positions in the iTunes all-genre chart. The song remains at No. 2 on Apple Music’s Top 100: USA chart as well.

In addition, the Raphael Saadiq-co-written tune sits in the top 5 of Spotify’s Daily Top Songs USA chart. The official visualizer for Beyoncé’s Renaissance Act II track also controls the No. 5 slot on YouTube’s Trending Music Videos chart for the United States.

Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign’s “Vultures 1” Returns To Apple Music

The rollout of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s new body of work has been met with delays, complaints over samples and removal from streaming platforms. For example, Apple Music temporarily took Vultures 1 off the music app.

Vultures 1 returned to Apple Music on Thursday (February 15) after Label Engine took over distribution for the album. The project’s original distributor, FUGA, reportedly had the studio LP taken down.

“Late last year, FUGA was presented with the opportunity to release Vultures 1,” a spokesperson for the company told Billboard in a statement. “Exercising our judgment in the ordinary course of business, we declined to do so.”

The FUGA representative also claimed Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign violated a service agreement by adding Vultures 1 to DSPs through the platform’s automated process. In addition, the duo faced public objections from Ozzy Osbourne and Donna Summer’s estate over unapproved sampling.

Vultures 1 finally arrived on February 9 after being pushed back several times since December 2023. Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign managed to secure a star-studded lineup of guest features for the album. In particular, Playboi Carti and Rich The Kid appear on “Carnival” which topped Apple Music’s Top 100: USA rankings.

Early projections have Vultures 1 debuting at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200 chart with around 140,000 first-week units. If those forecasts hold up, Kanye West will earn his eleventh No. 1 album. It would be Ty Dolla $ign’s first Billboard 200 chart-topper. ¥$ will headline the upcoming 2024 Rolling Loud California festival.
