A judge sentenced Daryl “Taxstone” Campbell to roughly 10 years in prison for federal gun charges on Monday (November 4). According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, the embattled podcaster got 115 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm and receiving a firearm in instate commerce.
Taxstone is already serving a 35-year sentence for state charges connected to the fatal shooting of Troy Ave’s bodyguard Ronald “Banga” McPhatter. Judge Lorna Schofield ordered Taxstone to serve his federal sentence concurrently with his state term.
A New York jury found Taxstone guilty of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon in 2023. Prosecutors said he shot McPhatter after confronting Troy Ave at a show at Irving Plaza in 2016.
Multiple people suffered injuries in the gunfire. McPhatter was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“Daryl Campbell used a firearm to target his rival, which led to loss of a life and serious injuries to innocent bystanders,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “Gun violence cannot be used as a way to address conflict. The toll of guns continues to be staggeringly high and it is horrific that a night out at a concert ended tragically.”
Troy Ave testified against Taxstone at the podcaster’s trial. Taxstone claimed the rapper’s testimony was full of lies.
“Half the stuff that was told on the stand by Troy Ave is a complete lie to protect himself from going to jail,” Taxstone said.
Taxstone also declared he would not serve his 35-year sentence in full.
“Just got 35 years for being victimized and reversing the situation the beauty in it all is I’m not doing 36,” he wrote. “Be safe tho.”
Troy Ave taunted Taxstone after the podcaster’s conviction and sentencing. Troy Ave spent a few months behind bars for his role in the 2016 shooting, securing his release in August.

It’s about creating an entire ecosystem where we support each other, holding ourselves to higher standards, and consistently reinvesting in the next generation. Let’s be clear: creating wealth is not the only end goal, but it’s a powerful means to an end. Wealth allows us to build schools, support mentorship programs and elevate the youth who will one day lead the charge. It lets us define the narrative and the values of our culture, preventing others from exploiting our legacy, hard, ideas and creativity for quick profit. Hold the line.

Just as we look back on the legacies of Martin, Malcolm, Rosa, Madame CJ, Medgar, Harriet, Brother Garvey and countless unnamed heroes with reverence, future generations will look back on us. Plies has filed a lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, GloRilla and Soulja Boy, alleging they all stole from his 2008 song “Me & My Goons” without his permission.
The Florida rapper is suing for copyright infringement, claiming Meg and Glo’s summer smash “Wanna Be,” contains elements of his track. Plies is also suing Cardi B for appearing on the remix.
Ironically, Plies claims the “Wanna Be” trio was not the first to jack his song. That distinction went to the rapper with many Hip-Hop “firsts,” Soulja Boy, suing him over a decades-old track. According to Plies, the beat for Big Draco’s “Pretty Boy Swag” anthem is also taken from “Me & My Goons.”
Meg’s Hot Girl Productions and Soulja’s former imprint Collipark Productions are named as defendants in the lawsuit alongside Universal Music Group, Collective Music Group and Interscope. Plies is seeking unspecified damages for the alleged unauthorized use of his song.
However, Megan Thee Stallion’s producer disputes the claims, firing back on social media. “Wanna Be” producer LilJuMadeDaBeat claims Megan and GloRilla’s song actually samples Soulja’s “My Dougie,” which came out in 2006, two years before Plies’ “Me & My Goons.”
“Big E the producer of “My Dougie” is credited on Wanna Be,” he tweeted.

Brian Steel is already finding creative ways to help Young Thug begin his community service journey as a part of the strict conditions of the 15-year probation sentence he received after accepting a non-negotiated plea deal in the YSL RICO case.
On Wednesday (November 6), multiple videos began circulating on social media from Thug’s defense attorney’s appearance as a guest speaker in front of a classroom full of law school students. In particular, the moment Steel decided to call Thugger on FaceTime and allow him to speak to the class at length, has since gone viral as Thug appears to share his thoughts on his case for the first time since he accepted his plea deal late last month on Halloween.
In his address to the students, not only did Thug attempt to convince them to become defense attorneys, he praised Steel for his “pedagogical” efforts and stressed the importance for legal counsel who will fight to keep people out of jail for the mistakes they have made.
“I think that the justice system could be very bad,” Young Thug said. “Sometimes it could be bad. And you got to always look at it like they’re there to put us in prison and you guys are here to keep us from prison. And Brian [Brian Steel] still is the best person possible. He’s very pedagogical and he should be a professor.”
Thug continued, underscoring how quickly anyone’s life can be upended by legal trouble, seemingly once again referencing the YSL RICO case, during which he spent over two years incarcerated for after being arrested in 2022 after being named in an indictment with over two dozen other co-defendants.
“I think you guys should become lawyers,” he said. “I think it’s very important to help people out of the situations that they’re in the best you can. I mean, what side you want to be on. You want to put people in prison for mistakes because everybody makes mistakes for human and everybody on this phone, everybody in this classroom, you always need to know that you want one mistake away.”
Thug signed off by using Steel as a divine example for why the students should consider becoming defense attorneys.
“And I feel like we need more people like Brian Steel on this earth and less people like that,” he said. “So I think it’s very, very, very important to become lawyers. I think it’s very, very important to be a lawyer over any other thing. Lawyers and doctors are the two greatest things that were ever founded. You actually help people and I think that that’s God work that’s doing the real God work. I think everyone of you in that classroom should become lawyers. For sure. Anything you need from me, I’m here.”
While it is unclear whether Young Thug’s address was as impromptu as it appears or part of a larger effort to satisfy the terms of his probation, it’s likely we will see more instances like this in the future and can likely expect the pair to appear together more formally as time progresses.
On October 31, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker sentenced Thug to 40 years, with the first five years served in prison, commuted by time served, 15 years of probation and thousands of dollars in fines after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges in the non-negotiated plea deal he accepted.
In addition to being ordered to serve 100 hours of community service each year of his probation, Thug will also be required to return to Atlanta to make community presentations focusing on anti-gang and anti-gun violence messaging four times a year. Thug’s probation will be followed by a backloaded 20 years, which can be served in custody if he fails probation.
Essentially, Thug will get out of jail immediately and remain on probation for 15 years. The judge also ruled that Thug has to stay out of the Atlanta Metro area for the first 10 years of his probation unless he needs to attend a funeral, wedding or such event of a close family member.

Considering Trump will more than likely be busy in the months leading up to his inauguration, the Louisiana rap veteran wasted no time getting down to business by requesting a pardon from the president in a legal case he has been wrestling with for several years now.

For added context, Boosie Badazz celebrated earlier this summer after he had dismissed a firearm possession case from May 2023. The case stemmed from Boosie’s arrest in San Diego following a traffic stop during which authorities claim they recovered two loaded guns. Authorities reportedly tracked Boosie via Instagram and claimed he was located by a helicopter in a “gang-affiliated neighborhood” after appearing in a video with a “known gang member.”
A federal judge ruled to throw out the case which levied charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon in interstate commerce against Bossie after a review found that it was unconstitutional to strip a nonviolent felon of their right to own a gun — per the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision in the case United States v. Duarte. However, Boosie spoke out again in July after he was indicted on the same charge, despite the dismissal of the case weeks earlier.

Tia Kemp is giving a new definition to the phrase “homie hopper” based on her recent remarks about former rap buddies Drake and Rick Ross in her latest interview.
In her appearance on the Unwine With Tasha K podcast, Kemp, the mother of Rick Ross’ son, didn’t hold back on her feelings about one of Rozay’s biggest ops right now, none other than Drake. As the conversation turned to Ross’ former friend-turned-rival, Tasha K prodded Kemp about whether she’d be interested in any romantic proclivities with any of Ross’ adversaries. At first, Kemp played coy, brushing off Ross’ so-called “ops.”
“No, I ain’t want none of his ops,” Tia Kemp said. “I don’t want none of them dustys. They ain’t got nothing,” she shot back, making it clear she had no interest in Ross’ lesser-known foes.
But when Tasha mentioned Drake, Kemp’s tone changed.
“Oh yeah, I’d get Drake,” she responded without hesitation, admitting she’s drawn to the Scorpion lyricist, who also shares her water sign status.
“He a Scorpio too, he a water sign,” she said before playfully adding a fling with Drake would be purely casual. “But nah, I won’t take Drake serious. We just have to do some business.”
A back-and-forth ensued between Tasha K and Kemp as the podcaster attempted to coax the social media personality that she’s not competing for a roster spot with Drake, just a one night stand. As the conversation escalated, Tasha pressed Kemp further, asking whether or not she’d really hook up with Drake if she had the chance. Kemp’s response was explicit, and unfiltered.

Federal prosecutors said Tekashi 6ix9ine accepted a plea deal for violating his probation. The controversial rapper agreed to spend a month behind bars to settle the matter.
Judge Paul Engelmayer will sentence 6ix9ine on November 12. Prosecutors sought three months of home incarceration, detention and a curfew with electronic monitoring in addition to jail time. 6ix9ine also faced an additional year of probation as part of the deal.
6ix9ine (real name Daniel Hernandez) was arrested for violating the conditions of his supervised release in October. He was charged with three technical violations. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A probation officer accused 6ix9ine of failing a drug test and not obtaining proper permission for travel. 6ix9ine was just a few months away from concluding his time probation.
6ix9ine previously accepted a plea deal in a racketeering case. He was sentenced to two years in prison in 2019. He also received five years of supervised release.
The troubled artist was facing more than 40 years in prison for crimes committed with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. He secured a lenient sentence by testifying against gang members.
Yailin La Más Viral, 6ix9ine’s ex-girlfriend, sued him a month before his latest arrest. She accused him of waging an “appalling campaign of abuse against her.” She claimed he stole “huge sums of money” from her and posted explicit images and videos of her on social media after she broke up with him.
“Over a period of more than a year, [6ix9ine] physically, sexually and emotionally abused [Yailin] – including, among many other acts of abuse and manipulation, drugging her while stealing and diverting hundreds of thousands of dollars of her earnings,” her lawsuit contended. “[He] used these misappropriated funds to pay for luxury expenses for his own entertainment, while manipulating, shaming and coercing [her] to undergo unnecessary plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures.”
6ix9ine was arrested on domestic violence charges in the Dominican Republic in January. The charges stemmed from him allegedly assaulting Yailin La Má Viral.
Diddy’s son King Combs tried to convince fans to focus on “positive things” despite the Bad Boys Records founder awaiting trial for sex crimes. Combs took control of his father’s Instagram account to spread “good energy” while Diddy remains in jail.
“It’s King Combs and right now I’m taking over my pop’s Instagram,” Combs said. “We gonna be posting videos, spreading good energy and taking y’all down memory lane, [show] all the positive things he did. So, stay tuned and watch this. Let’s go! We love you pops.”
Combs started his campaign by posting Diddy’s “All About the Benjamins” and “Victory” music videos. Combs surprisingly left the comments open on his posts.
“My Pop’s motivation to making music is always to make us dance and feel good,” Combs wrote.
Diddy was arrested for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution in September. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
“From at least 2008 through the present, [Diddy] led a criminal enterprise that existed to facilitate his abuse and exploitation of women, to protect his reputation, and to conceal his conduct,” prosecutors said. “As part of that criminal enterprise, [Diddy] along with other members and associates of the enterprise, committed crimes including sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice. Among other things, [his] sexual abuse of women included causing them to engage in frequent, days-long sexual activity with male commercial sex workers, some of whom were transported over state lines … [He] used violence and intimidation and leveraged his power over victims—power he obtained through obtaining and distributing narcotics to them, exploiting his financial support to them and threatening to cut off the same, and controlling their careers.”
Diddy was indicted after multiple people sued him for sexual assault over the past year. More accusers have filed lawsuits since his arrest. His criminal trial is scheduled for May 2025.
Ice Cube may cut Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, some slack after hearing his remarks about their recent encounter during his performance at the MLB team’s World Series celebration event in Los Angeles.
In a lively conversation on Mookie Betts’ podcast, Roberts unabashedly relived his epic dance moves during Ice Cube’s performance at Dodger Stadium on Friday (November 1). The performance, which took place during the Dodgers’ World Series championship celebration following their parade in downtown Los Angeles, left Roberts in such a state of excitement that he admits, “I think I blacked out.”
Betts teased Roberts about the viral video of him dancing, joking that Roberts could even go on tour with Ice Cube.
