The 2023 Tribeca Festival takes place June 7-18 in New York City. This year’s TV & NOW lineup includes projects involving Hip Hop legends Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Joseph “Fat Joe” Cartagena.

A&E’s Exposing Parchman investigative documentary will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation/Team Roc played a vital role in the legal battles to protect inmates from the inhumane conditions inside the Parchman Farm prison in Mississippi.

De La Calle will also premiere during the Tribeca Festival. Paramount+ presents the docuseries covering the evolution of Urbano music and cultures. Fat Joe, Juelz Santana, and other recording artists appear in the Nick Barili-hosted project.

In addition, 2023 Tribeca festivalgoers will have the chance to see BET+’s Diarra From Detroit produced by Kenya Barris, HBO’s The Golden Boy doc about Oscar De La Hoya, Apple TV+’s Swagger inspired by Kevin Durant, and other shows/films.

“There’s genuinely something for everyone in our Tribeca Festival TV selection. From romance in the 18th Century to a hilarious mystery in modern day Detroit; from a sports legend in the ring to Hip Hop heroes in the Bronx; from zombies in post-apocalyptic Manhattan to cannibalism in Washington Heights,” says Liza Domnitz, Tribeca Senior Programmer.

Domnitz continues, “Similarly, a fantastic variety of projects commemorate the 10th anniversary of indie episodic at Tribeca, offering attendees the chance to see the next generation of provocative and unique stories.”

In its tenth year, the Tribeca Festival’s NOW program uncovers independent episodic work. The 2023 NOW showcase highlights eight selections, including the Hey, Joe cooking show featuring Philadelphia-based pizza chef Joe Beddia.

Bow Wow Tells Nelly To Marry Ashanti: Sit Yo Old Ass Down… This Your Queen

Have rapper Nelly and singer Ashanti rekindled their relationship? Recent images of the “Body On Me” collaborators have people on the internet talking, including former child star Shad “Bow Wow” Moss.

Over the weekend, The Shade Room uploaded a video of Nelly and Ashanti attending the Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia boxing match together in Nevada. That post amassed more than 10,000 Instagram comments.

Bow Wow was one of the commenters to share his thoughts on Nelly and Ashanti possibly connecting again. According to the recording artist/reality show star, Nelly needs to put a ring on Ashanti’s finger.

“Yo, Mo! I know [we’re] not seeing eye to eye either really but from lil bro to big bro, STOP PLAYING AND MARRY THIS WOMAN, BRO,” wrote Bow Wow in The Shade Room‘s comment section. He also added, “[You’re] like 50 😂. Sit your old ass down 😂😂😂😂😂 This [is] your queen.”

Nelly turns 49 years old in November. The St. Lunatics leader and Ashanti reportedly met at a press conference for the 2003 Grammy Awards. After apparently dating for nearly a decade, the couple parted ways around 2013/2014.

Ashanti addressed speculation of her getting back with Nelly during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live in December 2022. Rumors circulated after fans saw the two entertainers perform a sensual rendition of “Body On Me” in Oakland.

“I saw a lot of comments. My reaction was… wow. It was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that,” said Ashanti on the Watch What Happens Live talk show. The 42-year-old Grammy winner added, “What I will say is we’re in a better place.”

Usher: Headlining The Super Bowl Halftime Show Is On My Bucket List

R&B musician Usher Raymond is experiencing a career rejuvenation at the moment. The 8-time Grammy winner recently became a must-see performer in Las Vegas with his respective residencies at Caesars Palace and Park MGM.

Additionally, Usher went viral last year following his well-received Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music. The “Confessions Part II” portion of that performance spawned the “Watch This” meme which took over the internet for weeks.

Earlier this month, Usher again ignited a lot of conversation on social media following his headlining set at the 2023 Dreamville Festival. There has also been significant discussion online about the music industry legend possibly taking on the responsibility to lead a future Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Access Hollywood‘s Scott Evans interviewed Usher at his Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace pop-up event in Los Angeles. Evans asked the Dallas-born singer if he has any interest in performing during the Super Bowl’s highly-publicized midgame music showcase.

“I’d be a fool to say no,” answered Usher. “If things line up the way that we would all hope, one day that moment would happen. I’ve had the opportunity to grace the stage before in support of ‘OMG’ with Will.i.am.”

The Hard II Love album creator continued, “But that was one moment. I think I have a catalog that obviously speaks for itself… It has always been kind of a bucket list [item]. How do I make it happen? I’m not certain about that.”

Will.i.am and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas headlined the Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show in 2011. The Hip-Pop group shared the stage with Usher, Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash, and the Prairie View A&M University marching band.

In addition to the 2010 single “OMG” with Will.i.am, Usher has scored nine total No. 1 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 2004’s “Yeah!” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris, off the RIAA Diamond-certified Confessions album, spent twelve weeks in the top spot.

Usher’s Confessions also hosts the chart-topping “Burn,” “Confessions Part II,” and “My Boo” with Alicia Keys. The 1997 studio LP My Way earned 7x-Platinum certification. 2001’s 8701 is currently certified 4x-Platinum.

Blueface Calls Chrisean Rock His Cellmate Not His Soulmate

Reality show couple Blueface and Chrisean Rock continue to make headlines across the internet. Blueface’s recent appearance on Kick Game’s YouTube channel included the California rapper talking about his association with his on-again, off-again girlfriend.

Shopping for Sneakers host Craig Mitch asked Blueface to explain his relationship with Chrisean Rock. The “Thotiana” performer responded, “It’s like the best, worst, saddest, happiest, ugliest, beautifullest, thing I’ve ever done. All in one.”

Blueface also said, “The only thing I don’t like is the misconception of her role and my role in the relationship because it’s like she’s younger, more impulsive, and more victimized-playing and I’m just stuck with the dick… I get blamed for all the f### s###. It’s not that way.”

Chrisean Rock and Blueface starred in the Zeus Network’s Crazy In Love reality television series. In addition, the two social media personalities receive a lot of attention online for their constant toxic interactions, including clips showing them engaging in violence toward each other.

Later in the Kick Game interview, Craig Mitch questioned Blueface about Chrisean Rock possibly being his soulmate. The Find the Beat album creator replied, “Hell no. No, she’s a f###### cellmate. That’s what she is. We’re locked the f### up.”

Blueface also garnered press over the weekend for his participation in Kingpyn Boxing’s High Stakes event in London. The man born Jonathan Porter knocked out TikToker Ed Matthews in the fourth round. Chrisean Rock attended the match.

NLE Choppa Drops NSFW “Sl*t Me Out” Remix Video Featuring Sukihana On OnlyFans

“S### Me Out” has become one of the biggest hits of NLE Choppa’s career. The explicit single peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart.

Earlier this month, NLE Choppa released a remix of “S### Me Out” featuring St. Louis-bred rapper Sexyy Redd. Another version of the song arrived overnight. This time, Love & Hip Hop: Miami star Sukihana jumped on the track.

Sukihana appeared alongside NLE Choppa and Sexyy Redd in the controversial visuals for the first “S### Me Out” remix. For “S### Me Out Remix” part two, Choppa uploaded an NSFW video to his OnlyFans page.

“Me and Suki tryna perform ass naked who booking us?” tweeted Choppa on Sunday night. The 20-year-old Memphis native also shared a 30-second clip from his racy “S### Me Out” OnlyFans content on Twitter.

NLE Choppa released his second studio album, Cottonwood 2, on April 14. The original “S### Me Out” lives on the standard edition of the LP. “S### Me Out Remix” with Sexyy Red is one of the bonus tracks on the deluxe.

Additionally, Cottonwood 2 features 2Rare, Lil Wayne, Lola Brooke, Fivio Foreign, Kevin Gates, Duke Deuce, Polo G, G Herbo, Queen Naija, and Rick Ross. Production was provided by London Jae, SkipOnDaBeat, Ben Billions, D.A. Got That Dope, CashMoneyAP, and others.

Cottonwood 2 joined an NLE Choppa discography that already contains his 2020 debut album Top Shotta. The Warner recording artist also put out EPs like 2019’s Cottonwood as well as mixtapes like 2022’s Me vs. Me.

Suge Knight Questions Snoop Dogg’s Ownership Of Death Row Records

In a new jailhouse call, Suge Knight has questioned Snoop Dogg’s ownership of the label he co-founded, claiming he lost the company over a fraudulent transaction.

The Doggfather acquired the pioneering rap label from the Blackstone-owned MNRK Music Group in February last year. Nonetheless, according to Suge Knight, there is no Death Row Records without him, and he accused his ex-business partner Michael “Harry-O” Harris of shady dealings.

“I don’t know if he do,” Suge Knight replied when TMZ asked his opinion of Snoop Dogg owning Death Row Records. “I doubt that.”

The former music mogul, currently serving 28 years for voluntary manslaughter, stated, “I am Death Row. Suge Knight is Death Row,” before insisting iconic works like Tupac’s All Eyez On Me will forever be attributed to his time as CEO.

However, he went on to imply Snoop Dogg and Harry-O committed bankruptcy fraud to take the company from him.  “I didn’t lose my company by doing anything wrong,” Suge Knight continued. “They went in, and the lawyer didn’t show up, and they got a default judgment.

Suge Knight says his claim that he settled the judgment was disputed, but added he only found out last week that “they committed bankruptcy fraud.”

He claims his former partner filed for bankruptcy in 1995 when he “didn’t have a right to do it,” and so should have been barred from settling the Death Row Records case. Check out the clip at the end of the page.

However, although Suge Knight seemingly implied Snoop Dogg was involved in the alleged shady dealings with Harry-O, the West Coast icon only acquired Death Row Records in 2022.

The former Death Row CEO says all will be revealed his upcoming biopic. Read about it here at allHipHop.com.

Lizzo Hosts Epic Drag Queens Gig In Knoxville To Protest Tennessee’s Drag Show Ban

Lizzo staged a protest against Tennessee’s controversial drag ban, filling the Knoxville stage with drag queens during her performance Friday night.

The Grammy award-winning singer/rapper welcomed a host of drag performers to join her for her concert on the opening night of the second leg of her The Special 2our. Fans told Lizzo to abandon her Tennessee shows over the recent state legislation designed to restrict drag performances in public.

However, she decided to show solidarity instead, inviting around 20 drag queens to perform with her. Among them was RuPaul’s Drag Race alums Aquaria, Asia O’Hara, Kandy Muse, and Vanessa Vanji Matteo. Lizzo was also joined by local drag queens.

“In light of recent and tragic events and current events, I was told by people on the internet, ‘Cancel your shows in Tennessee,’ ‘Don’t go to Tennessee,’” Lizzo said, addressing the audience. “Their reason was valid, but why would I not come to the people who need to hear this message the most? … Why would I not create a safe space in Tennessee where we can celebrate drag entertainers and celebrate our differences?”

Lizzo continued, “What people in Tennessee are doing is giving hope, so thank you so much for standing up for your rights, protecting each other and holding the people accountable who should be protecting us.”

“THANK YOU TO THESE BEAUTIFUL DRAG QUEENS FOR SHOWING THEIR PRIDE IN TENNESSEE ♥️🧡💛💚💙💜🩵🤎” Lizzo captioned a clip of the performance.

Conway The Machine Expresses Regret Over Benny The Butcher & Freddie Gibbs Beef

Conway The Machine has opened up about the beef between Benny the Butcher and Freddie Gibbs, revealing he regrets not preventing the feud from starting.

The former friends and collaborators have been engaged in an online war of words that boiled over into a full-fledged altercation last May ahead of Freddie Gibbs’ performance in the Griselda rapper’s hometown of Buffalo, New York.

During a recent interview, Conway refused to discuss the specifics of the fight but instead shared his regret that the pair have not resolved their issues.

“It’s a f#####-up situation for me personally because that n#### Gibbs my n####,” he told DJ Akademiks. “I wish that s### never happened.”

The host pointed out Conway is “in the middle” and asked if he could broker a truce.

“I would love to squash that; I wish I could have. If I was there, I don’t know if that would have happened,” the “Stressed” rapper said, seemingly alluding to the altercation. “I’m talking about none of it. Not just the s### that they talking about. I’m talking about all the s### before and all that.”

Ultimately, the Drumwork Music Group founder concluded, “I just wish that s### never happened.” Check out the clip below.

Freddie Gibbs Shoot Down Potential Truce With Benny The Butcher

Freddie Gibbs reportedly had his chain snatched during the beatdown last year. He claimed about 20 people were involved but denied his jewelry was taken.

The pair continued to clash online, with Benny the Butcher showing off jewels he claimed were taken from Freddie Gibbs. The Alfredo creator fired back and slammed Benny in a series of social media posts.

While Conway wants to pair to overcome their differences, Freddie Gibbs believes it’s unlikely.

“Probably not,” Gibbs said of a potential truce during an XXL interview earlier this year. “Just because I feel like I’m not on the level of that ghetto rap beef s###. I don’t care enough to solve a beef with a rapper,” he added saying he doesn’t care enough about rappers. “I’ll let them care about that.”

Latto and Coi Leray have put their differences aside after the New Jersey-raised rapper took issue with a line from the “Big Energy” hitmaker’s new song.

Coi Leray blasted Latto on Twitter after hearing Latto’s new track “Put It On Da Floor” which dropped last week (Apr. 21). “Smoking on that gas, blunt big as Coi Leray,” Latto raps on the single.

Donald Trump Claims He’s An Ice Spice Fan Seconds After Asking: “Who The Hell Is Ice Spice?”

Embattled former president Donald Trump sat down with the Full Send Podcast for a series of rapid fire questions. One of those involved “Munch” rapper Ice Spice. The host throws Trump the name and he asks, “Who the hell is Ice Spice?” The host insists he’s heard the song “Munch” and Trump asks to hear it, although they fail to provide an audio clip. So, Trump—who seemed to be growing impatient—says, “Well I like it, OK? I like it.” The answer is immediately deemed “disingenuous.”

Donald Trump was arrested on April 4. In the unsealed indictment, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump with 34 felony counts for falsifying New York business records through a “catch and kill” scheme designed to conceal damaging information and unlawful activity before the 2016 election. Trump, appearing before Judge Juan Merchan, pleaded not guilty to each of the counts.

The crux of the case centers on $130,000 in “hush money” Michael Cohen made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Prosecutors also outlined a $30,000 payment to a former Trump Tower doorman “who claimed to have a story about a child Trump had out of wedlock.”

They also referenced a separate $150,000 payment to former Playboy model Karen McDougal to silence her about an alleged affair prior to the 2016 election. Prosecutors said the latter two payments were facilitated by American Media Inc., which owns and operates the National Enquirer tabloid.

Despite the arrest, Trump is still planning on running in the 2024 presidential election. Maybe he can pick Ice Spice as his running mate.

EXCLUSIVE: Bumpy Knuckles, Daru Jones & MonoNeon Announce PHUNKINTRYBE Project

Bumpy Knuckles (also known as Freddie Foxxx), drummer extraordinaire Daru Jones and bassist/singer-songwriter MonoNeon come from somewhat different musical backgrounds. Bumpy rose to notoriety through cameos on music by Boogie Down Productions, Naughty By Nature and Gang Starr. Jones tours the world with rock juggernaut Jack White. MonoNeon has played with Prince, Mac Miller, Ne-Yo and, more recently, Nas. But when they bring their individual talents to the collective table, magic happens.

Around the time COVID-19 was beginning to make its presence known, Jones and MonoNeon got together at the famous Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee to record several produced by Bumpy Knuckles for a collaboration project—but they hit a snag.

“Once we finished those tracks around 2 a.m., we just started jamming and creating short original beats to add in between Bumpy tracks for interludes,” Jones tells AllHipHop. “That session took place around December 2020. Fast forward, months later, Bumpy finally finished the songs and started sending us the mixes one by one. After a while, Bumpy went quiet, so I reached out to Bump and got the news that an important hard drive crashed that was not able to be recovered. So unfortunately, the project was put on hold.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Daru Jones (@darujones)

As fate would have it, some of those sessions were eventually recovered and the project resumed. As Jones explains, “2023 came around and I went through some files on my computer. I randomly found a folder with ‘The Interlude’ beats MonoNeon and I recorded and sent them to Bumpy. The next morning, Bumpy sent the entire instrumentals recorded with vocals.

“My head was cracked because it sounded like a pregame album sampler. It was surreal and inspiring, and that’s how the project was born. We were able to salvage some of the session files from the original tracks we recorded over Bumpy tracks.”

Soon, PHUNKINTRYBE (pronounced Funk N’ Tribe) was born. The project is a contribution to the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop and pays tribute to its roots in a live band setting showcasing the musical influence of funk, rock, urban, alternative, blues, soul and reggae. The trio is readying their collaborative project, Interludes, with a preview.

“I first heard of Foxxx work back in the Flavor Unit days with Queen Latifah, also one of my favorite Hip-Hop groups, Gang Starr,” Jones says. “Everything Foxxx gets on, he takes the song or project to another level. Some of my favorite verses are from projects with M.O.P. , rapper O.C, and of course Gang Starr ‘The Militia.’

“You’ll have to do ya Google’s on Bumpy’s catalog to get the valve on his contribution to the game. He’s not only a skilled and versatile MC but also an amazing beatmaker/producer. Such an honor to work with Bumpy on this body of work.”

As for MonoNeon, Jones calls him “a phenomenal bassist, experimental musician, singer and songwriter from another planet.” He continues, “He was Prince’s last bassist before he departed so that should speak for itself. We’ll be here for days and hours if I’d mentioned all the established and legendary artists MonoNeon worked with in a decade. He’s my Leo and musical galaxy brother from another mother that I’ve performed and worked with since 2016.”

Jones and MonoNeon are both members of the original lineup in Pete Rock’s band, The Soul Brothers. They completed an EP called Gospel According to Little Green Man in 2021. They also recorded and worked with Parliament-Funkadelic legend Bootsy Collins on “Bewise” and another forthcoming project. Needless to say, the boys have been busy.

REVIEW: PYTI – Focus (2022)

PYTI’s Dubstep track “Focus,” which was released in 2022, showcases the artist’s ability to blend various musical genres seamlessly. Although the song incorporates some of the classic elements that Dubstep listeners have come to expect, it also brings some fresh ideas to the mix. “Focus” uses a repeated beat for the most part, which gives it a sense of stability and lets other components shine. The track starts with a soothing and calm melody, immediately followed by edgy and intense glitchy synths that add energy and a sense of progression.

Silence is one of the notable features used in “Focus.” The artist intentionally uses silence to build anticipation and tension in various parts of the song. He uses silence in the middle of the track when he uses fewer instruments, and the melody is almost silent. The tension is then relieved as the tempo quickens and glitchy synths are used in full force.

Another aspect that stands out in this track is the use of unexpected beats introduced in various parts of the song. These unpredictable beats add unpredictability to the jam and keep the listener engaged. The artist also uses various elements of house, jazz, hip-hop, trap, and other musical genres. While using all these elements makes the track interesting to listen to, it can be challenging to attract a dedicated audience due to its lack of commitment to a smaller musical genre.

Besides silence, the track employs the layering technique to produce a nuanced and balanced sound. The artist introduces each sound timely into the mix to ensure no element overpowers the other. Layering is especially evident in the synths used throughout the track. In addition, the artist uses distorted sound effects to give the composition depth and texture without overwhelming the listener.

Other than the intense glitchy sounds, PYTI incorporates hypnotic tunes, producing a calming effect to the song. In addition, the song starts off slow and ends gradually, which gives it a sense of completeness, as if the listener has come to the end of the listening journey.

Although the instruments are well-layered, some transitions are a bit startling, which detracts the song’s overall flow. Also, the distorted sound effects are somewhat overwhelming, which can make it difficult for new Dubstep listeners to differentiate between various elements of the song.

“Focus” is a typical Dubstep track that uses spatial atmosphere, synths, and various electronic instruments. The bass and other elements give the track a progressive, immersive sound that can be heard and felt. Also, distorted sounds give “Focus” and an energetic and upbeat vibe. The song’s production is also notable. The artist’s ability to blend various musical genres and elements, such as layering, silence, and unpredictable beats, keeps the listener interested from the beginning to the end.

Kanye West & Kim Kardashian’s Kid North West Fears Paparazzi Will Make Her Go Blind

As the daughter of two of the most recognizable public figures in the world, North West has been forced to grow up in the public eye. The kid’s famous parents, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, attended one of her basketball games over the weekend. West cut out early to seemingly avoid running into his ex-wife. As Kardashian and North were leaving the Donda Sports Academy, the budding basketball star expressed some legitimate fears. Swarmed by paparazzi, the number of flashes going off in her face appeared to get under her skin.

“Why you guys always taking pictures?” she asks the photographers. “Are you trying to blind people? That is really bright. This is so unnecessary. Ouch! You guys are going to make a child blind!”

North West has a tendency to express her unfiltered thoughts whenever the paparazzi is around. In July 2022, North West, who was seated front row at the Jean Paul Gaultier fall/winter fashion show with her mother at the time, displayed a sign that read “STOP” as the photographers continued to snap photos.

Around the same time, North was faced with a swarm of paps in Paris as they walked ahead of Kardashian and her cousin, Cici Bussey. Clearly fed up with constant attention, she asked the photographers, “Why do you have to wait for us all the time?”

They answered, “Because you’re so famous. We love you, North!” That wasn’t the first time either. North West has been calling paps out since she was 2 years old. She went viral for shouting “No pictures” as paps waited for Kardashian outside of North’s ballet class.

Despite North West’s protests, there’s no end in sight when it comes to the paparazzi. They will likely haunt her for the rest of her life—but that doesn’t mean she has to like it.

Nelly & Ashanti Spotted Leaving Garcia Vs. Davis Boxing Match Holding Hands

Nelly and Ashanti dated for roughly a decade beginning in 2003. The couple called it quits around 2014 amid cheating rumors. In 2015, Ashanti briefly touched on the subject during an appearance on The Meredith Vieira Show. She said, “I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities it allows them to act out of character. I’ve been betrayed. I’m not a big fan of people being cowards. I’m in a different place now.”

The topic of betrayal came up three years later during a 2018 concert where she told the crowd, “I’ve been betrayed before. Publicly at that.” A fan in the crowd yelled, “F**k Nelly,” Ashanti pointed at them and just said, “Word.”

With that, it seemed any hopes of a reunion was dashed. Then, a renewed interest in their relationship exploded in 2021 following a performance of “What’s Luv?” with Ja Rule during his Verzuz matchup against Fat Joe. During an interview with Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last December, Ashanti was asked about the possibility of them reuniting. She said, “Oh my gosh. ‘Body On Me’ may have sparked speculation. I saw a lot of comments. My reaction was…wow. It was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that.”

Fans just might get what they’re asking for. On Saturday (April 22), Nelly and Ashanti sat next to each other at the Garcia vs. Davis boxing match in Las Vegas. They left hand-in-hand, prompting fans to lose their collective minds on Twitter. Watch the clip below.

NBA YoungBoy No Shows To His Own Album Release Party

After promoting his virtual listening party, sources say that NBA YoungBoy did not show up to his own event.

As reported by AllHipHop.com, the in-person album release party of his new project, “Don’t Try This At Home” for the Louisiana rapper’s friends and fans was scheduled for Thursday, April 20 at Elevate Lounge in Los Angeles, CA.

He announced the information when he shared with the world his latest apparel collaboration and stated he would show up via live stream because he is currently on house arrest in Utah.

The hoopla was up. The team exhausted a whopping  $200K to rent the space out and secured 50 Cent’s Branson Cognac to be the sponsor.

One of the other perks was that there would be a raffle and the winner was supposed to get to talk directly to the chart-topper.

However, when the day rolled around, he did not log in.

According to TMZ, his team has released a statement regarding why he was not there.

“There was a technical difficulty and they couldn’t get NBA YoungBoy on the live stream,” his team said. “They tried Zoom and FaceTime without any success and unfortunately, NBA YoungBoy was unable to connect with his friends and fans.”

There is no word on if the raffle winner was able to speak to their favorite star.

Ad-Rock Says He’s Sitting On Unreleased Beastie Boys Music: “I’m Going To Put It Out”

Ad-Rock, MCA and Mike D—collectively known as Beastie Boys—have remained largely inactive since MCA’s 2012 death. Aside from releasing the Beastie Boys Book in 2018 and its accompanying AppleTV+ special Beastie Boys Story in 2020, Ad-Rock and Mike D fly under the radar. But, during a particularly rare podcast appearance, Ad-Rock told Kreative Kontrol there’s still hope for new Beastie Boys music.

When asked about the status of the nearly mythical Part One to 2011’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, he said, “We actually have a whole full album. I’m not even kidding.” When pressed for further details, he admitted, “That I can’t disclose, but I can tell you, with all honesty, there is a whole other album.”

Ad-Rock—who also said he’s been working on solo music “every day”—was slightly apprehensive about releasing the music into the world but was adamant it would surface eventually.

“We have a bunch of rap songs also that never came out, but the bulk of it is stoner jams,” he added. “I don’t know if the world … really needs that right now—but maybe they want it? I don’t know. They’re going to get it, at some point, because I’m going to put it out.”

Beastie Boys started off as a punk rock outfit but evolved into a Hip-Hop trio in the mid ’80s. After inking a deal with Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons’ Def Jam Recordings, the Beasties released their 1986 debut, Licensed To Ill. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA in February 1987 and diamond in March 2015. Following MCA”s death, sales of Beastie Boys albums exploded. Licensed to Ill reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Catalog Albums chart and re-entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 18.

Beasties left Def Jam after just one album and signed with Capitol Records for 1989’s Paul’s Boutique. While considered a “commercial failure,” the album ultimately reached cult status. The Beasties released six more albums, including 1992’s Check Your Head and 1993’s Ill Communication. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, although MCA was too sick to attend. He died soon after.

It’s easy to be patient when you know what you’re destined for.”
